screen remains black ThinkCentre Edge 91z

Q: screen remains black ThinkCentre Edge 91z

I have the ThinkCentre Edge 91z for quite a while now but the monitor isn't displaying anything anymore. It all started about 2 weeks ago, the monitor would randomly turn black and display weird pixels over the screen but the screen would still go back to normal after a short time (about 10 seconds). After that i decided to restard the pc but the monitor wasn't displaying anything, It would only show me the "power saving mode" message and goes to sleeping mode after that.Sometimes i manage to get out of sleeping mode, the monitor starts displaying the same weird pixels for about 5 seconds and goes back to sleeping modeI even tried to connect my computer to a laptop with a HDMI cable but it won't display anythingThese are the 2 things the monitor displays when the computer gets out of sleeping mode

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just upgraded to Win10, and my screen seems to have slipped out of alignment.I now have an extra inch to black screen at the bottom, and the top inch of the screen appears to extend to above the physical screen. With an old fashioned monitor I'd just "wind down" the screen and recentre it using manual controls, but how do I do that with the inbuilt screen? Thanks

Hello Everyone !
I have this problem with my laptop, when i turn it on everything seems to work (i hear the fan, the HDD and the LED are on) except the screen, it remains completely black (no backlight or anything) (no POST beeps as well).
It doesn't happen all the time (about 40% of the time). At first, it was doing it only when i wake it up from Sleep, then it started doing it even in cold boot (not even the Toshiba logo shows up, nothing).

To get it working again, i shut it off, pull the battery out and hold press the power button for 1min (works 40% of the time) And/Or i remove the RAM and place it in the other slot (works 70%).

The Fixs i tried are : - Updated all the drivers
- Ran Chkdsk and SFC and it's all ok
- Updated the BIOS
- Formated my Windows 10 partition and made a clean install.
None of these worked
PS : I have a toshiba L50-b / windows 10
Can anyone please help ?
Thanks in advance !

I think I got a virus. On start up a message appeared saying corrupt or missing config sys file, and something about using the original windows disc to repair it. I tried starting it several times and still got the message. thr machine is some yrs old and I do not have the disc. I then bought hirens disc to fix things. I then tried to start the laptop but it now has a black screen and the cd drive keeps trying to do something, putting any sort of disc in has no effect. Looking thru thr help things I came to the conclusion that the bios is now corrupt. On my desktop hp windows 10 I downloaded the hp latest bios intending to make a usb memory stick. Howver when run the sp 45086 on my desktop to create the usb it says driver failed to load and does not complete. I then tried to create the usb one by running the sp 45086 on a dell laptop, this says the bios does not match and again fails  HELP

Before I begin, sorry, I am very illiterate when it comes to computers, so this may be frustrating. So, when I turn on my computer, it loads, and then it gets to the logon screen and stays black. So right now, I'm in safe mode. This happened after I uninstalled SpyBot. I don't no whether it is just a coincidence, or it actually had something to do with it. We have an issue where some of our E431 devices will power on but the screen will remain black. If we let things sit for awhile and try to boot again it may come up just fine. There are no beep notifications during POST. When it boots fine the ThinkPad logo appears and will go on to the OS. If we restart or shutdown the computer may or may not boot. Has anyone had an issue similar to this and what did you do to correct the issue? We have tried replacing screens, mother boards, new hard drives, and swapping memory but cannot pinpoint what is causing the issue. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Hi, as the title says, the screen just randomly stopped turning on, the first instance about 2 days ago upon waking it up from sleep, I didn't know what was happening so I tried some of the function buttons to no avail, then control alt delete a few times which would make the screen flicker a bit, and then it just randomly popped up.This morning I tried to boot up, but the screen remained black and no matter what I did. I tried shutting it down with the power button and pressing the NOVO button - and that made the display turn on, so I just selected normal boot and it was fine. But it just happened again when I left the laptop for a while and the display shut down, and then when I came back it wouldnt turn back on.. and it was rather tricky getting the laptop to shut down properly as the power button would just make it go to sleep. But in the end I managed and the NOVO button worked the charm again. Anyone have any ideas why the screen wont turn on for anything but the NOVO button? Can it be a hardware problem considering this workaround?FYI: using the screen off Fn button doesn't trigger this problem

Hello,

I have a strange problem. When I start my laptop everything goes normal, but as soon as it actually gets into explorer my screen turns black. I can also hear the standard Windows sound that I am in explorer. So I think everything is fine, but I just cannot see anything!

As soon as I do a system restore everything is fine again. The only problem is... after a while it turns back of course. I then do another system restore and find myself in a vicious circle...

Also when I start it in safe mode everything is fine (meaning I can actually see things). I think somehow it automatically puts my screen to monitor or something (I don't have it connected to anything though). I tried putting it back with the Intel hotkeys to try if it's this but no result.

Quite annoying to try to fix something when you can't see anything!

I have a HP6730b with Windows Vista (64b).

Thank you in advance for your help!

A:Laptop starts but screen remains black

Hello, Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. Welcome onboard! I am sorry for the issues you experience with your HP computer. Please, review this http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03518165 official article about such issues you experience now. Follow the appropriate steps that fit your case to attempt to fix the issue. If it shows something on external beamer or display, it may be driver (less likely) is hardware (more likely) issue. If you did try everything but nothing helped, I am afraid you will need to bring your computer (or ship it) to service - HP Authorized service center. If the computer is still under warranty, you will need to notify HP support first. If you are not sure where such a center is located, please contact HP support for assistance in finding one. Here is more info: >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00372730>> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html Hope this helps.

Any ideas?

A:Laptop screen remains black when I turn it on (worse after a fix)

Hi and welcome to the Forum
Depending on what you were doing before this first happened it loos as if you might have a RAM problem. I would suggest running Memtest to see what that finds. Here's a link to how to use Memtest by making a bootable CD:
Memtest86 - Download now!
You need to run memtest for a long time, at least overnight! memtest will continue to run until you stop it. Run it until it finds an error. Then you need to remove one of your Memory modules so by a process of elimination you eventually find the fauty one.
If after running overnight, say up to 10 hours if Memtest has found no errors then you can assume that our RAM is OK.
After that I would run Windows Offline Defender in the same way, ie create a bootable CD from here:
Microsoft
Report back here with your findings.
When you can get into your machine it would be helpful if you fill in your System Spec details see here:
System Info - See Your System Specs

I have a 2 1/2 yr old Dell Inspiron 1000. The battery is kaput and has been for a long time. always run off a power cord. now the laptop will not boot up (?). there are small green LED lights...two on the front, 4 in the back. they do come on when i turn on the power switch...at least some of them. I heard the hard drive spinning and the fan coming on...just like it would boot up normally, but then nothing. everything stops....then screen never comes on and its sits there...with a couple LED lights on, but nothing. like its in stand-by. This happened to me a year ago and i found a forum somewhere where everyone was having the same problem. they took the computer apart, removed something, then put it all back together and it worked. i just can't remember where i saw it at or what forum. this seems to be a fairly common problem with the Dells. If anyone can help me out here, i'd appreciate it. i just bought a new laptop and the same day the Dell crapped out before i could transfer all my information to my new laptop.

Thanks in advance.

Hello So, here's my problem:  My laptop is doing some weird stuff.  When I turn the computer on, the blue HP logo appears and it loads, but after that a black screen appears.   This has happened to me before, so what I did was to press f11 and then enter the system manager and then I could restore the computer. No problem. Now, when I press f11 it will say "please wait" and then just enter a black screen. I tried to do a bios update. I pressed the windows-logo and B, meanwhile also pressing the power button, and a BIOS update did indeed appear, but after the update, the hp logo just appears and loads, and then goes to a black screen. After a while a short blue message saying some like "The computer has an error, and a restore will now be completed" and then an automatic restore appears, but the screen agaaain goes to black lol.  NOTE: I can also press f10, but I don't know what I need that to.  So, thats my problem. I really hope that someone can help me. This is quite frustrating.  Thanks!

I purchased this computer recently "as is". The screen is dark, black upon start up and remains this way. The operating system works fine as I can use a flashlight over the screen and navigate anywhere I need to go. I have ordered the recovery dvd from Sony and am awaiting that to see if it helps. This system is currently running XP Home Service Pack 2(I was told it was added and not the original that came with the computer. The computer is a Sony Vaio VGN-A290. Can someone suggest some troubleshooting for this problem or let me know if it is a driver, software or hardware problem? My next step after I receive the Recovery DVD from Sony, if that doesn't work, will be to take it in for repair, which we all know can be costly. I can provide any additional information if needed. I've been using computers since 1990, but not that good at driver, video card, hardware problems, though can follow instructions. Thanks in advance, okiegirl.

A:Sony Vaio Laptop Black, Dark Screen On Start Up and remains

Sounds like your LCD is bad.

Sounds like you have one of two things going on: either a bad inverter board, or the flourescent tube in the LCD is dead.

The inverter board is fairly easy to replace, and costs around $100. The flourescent tube is a much more troubling issue - generally the only option is to replace the entire LCD, and they do get expensive. Some repair shops claim to be able to replace just the flourescent tube - this can be a little less expensive. But it's hard to find a repair shop that can do that.

What will happen is that I will will be using the laptop with or without the charger cable plugged in and the screen will randomly go black. The keyboard will stay lit up but none of the buttons pressed with change this black scrren state. I even have tried turning off the keybaord blacklights but the whole keybaord becomes unresponsive. It doesn't atter if I close and reopen the laptop or leave it there for minutes or hours I have tested it out. It will just stay in that state until the battery runs out. What I have to do in these situations is hold the power button for it to completely shut off and then turn it back on, only for it to do the same thing. I have timed it. It's very random. Sometimes it does it after a few hours of using it, sometimes after a few minutes.  A few months ago I live chatted with someone who suggested some edits, such as completely turning off sleep and the screensaver but that didn't help. They also suggested that I follow their instruction and download an install certain drivers but that didn't stop the problem either.  I do believe this started right after a windows update a few days after purchase. I've had this laptop for a year and the random black screens happen very frequently now; everyday, multiple times a day.  I'm attending graduate school and you can imagine how annoying it is to be in the middle of class or writing a paper eat home and for this to happen. I'd appreciate any help you can give me. Hello everyone, I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E430 and it was working fine until today. Today I worked on the laptop as usual and just turned off the Fast Startup setting in the Windows 8 and then restarted the computer. Now it only shows a black screen (LCD backlights are on but there is nothing on the screen). I hear the usual BIOS beep sound but I can't see the BIOS screen or the Windows. I've tried to connect to a an external monitor via HDMI. Amazingly, both my laptop's screen and external monitor works fine when the laptop is connected to the external screen. But when I disconnect them, again I can only see the black screen. I turned on the Fast Startup settings in Windows 8, but it didn't work. Then I loaded the default settings from the BIOS and it didn't worked too. Finally I've installed Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS to test if it is because of the operating system but it didn't help too. I've tried all of this using the laptop's screen while it was connected to the external screen. It is very confusing for me. It seems like the screen is only working when an external screen is also connected to the laptop. I would be very happy if anyone can help me about this problem.

Hello, I have seen various posts about similar problems, though not on Edge E130. Tried their solutions, to no avail. The screen is black. No faint image. Machine powers up (LEDs glow, noise of fan and hard disk). I have no external video connection. Have tried taking battery out, pressing on button for 1 minute, plugging machine to power (no battery) and restart. No success. Did not initiate any kind of update (certainly not BIOS!), upgrade or new software install (though the machine has been asking to upgrade to Windows 10, which I have not done yet). Running Windows 8.1 (as far as I can remember, as I cannot actually check - the screen is black).  AVG antivirus, updated and fully run about one week ago. Help? Please?

I have a Latitude E5500 series with a matte screen.  It is almost 3 years old. The pixels along the top and side edges of the screen have slowly been going black.  The top edge had lost up to 1/2 inch of display in some places.  (see picture 1 from two weeks ago)  Today there is a large black half circle at the top that is six inches wide and an inch thick (see picture 2).  Strangely, some of the top edge that was black before now works again..
I assume it is related to the slight pressure it receives when in my computer backpack.  It was not dropped or crushed or anything unusual.  Are these laptops too fragile to transport?
Do you think that replacing the screen will fix this?  Or is this a different problem?  It is not under warranty any more so I may try to replace it myself.  I see a video on YouTube about that.  Any suggestions?

Hi GALLEON72,
It definitely looks like a display issue.
Run the LCD bist - Turn off the system and press and hold the "D" key + power button to turn on the system and it should run the LCD built in self test - see this link for more info - http://dell.to/1SkXNrG
Connect an external monitor and check if the display is fine.
If yes, which I presume it would be, replace the LCD on the system.
I am not sure if Dell would still have parts for an obsolete model. However, you could contact our team to get a quote - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ
You could also order the parts here - http://bit.ly/2ifwGGM - however, I am not sure if there is a matte display available.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.

I have a Lenovo Edge 2, fairly new, few months old. Problem I am currently having: Screen goes randomly black, but the LED light still is on, no mouse pointer, sound turns off too (similar to hibernate maybe?). I get a message at start up that there is an issue with one of the drivers. But when I check the drivers, everything looks updated (its set to upate automatically anyway). I had a similar issue before, another driver message. The problem was that my laptop wouldnt connect to wifi unless the power mode was totally amped. Something about the laptop thinking its in low battery mode and wifi connection dropping, I connected it via hardwire and updated the wifi driver i think, and the issue resolved. Could it be a similar issue? There seems to be a problem with this laptop and the sleep mode / low battery mode status driver maybe. How should I fix this?

Good Afternoon, I work for an ICT company that primarily deals and sells Lenovo Hardware. Over the past few months we have had an ever increasing issues with ThingCentre workstations showing black or white bars at the top or bottom of the screens. This seems to only happen when using programs such as Adobe, Chrome etc and stops the user interacting with anything under the bar. The only fix once it appears is to restart the workstation. We have attempted to upgrade, downgrade, remove and reinstall every driver I could get my hands on (as per Lenovo supports usual request) even to the point of completely reimaging multiple of these workstations to no change. I am well and truly grasping at straws, I have tried multiple different screens across multiple different workstations with multiple different connections, adapters, etc. I can't seem to find anything at all online and only end up confusing support when I try and get in contact with anyone. I also now have a client on a Carbon X1 displaying the same issues on the Laptop screen (No issue with the external) Please find example Pictures below,

My computer has been crashing a lot, which i think is a hardware issue, that is not for this post, but i right now, need assistance, after using my pc in the morning, turning it off, then when i come back, i turn it on, shows the logo, then a dark screen, forever, atleast how long i have waited. I have tried resetting bios, moving ram sticks, messing with BIOS, running hardware checks and software, startup repair says that the laptop boots up, and find no problems, but it doesnt let me do a windows memory diagnostic, i may provide extra information if needed, and i do not know if any more is required, and please do help me, i cannot do anything on my pc until it is fixed

I have an AOC 16" lcd monitor. On the edge of it I get these small black wavy lines. After about a week these wavy lines started increasing. The screen was also somewhat scrappy and flashed quite often. I checked the monitor cables and tried replacing them. Still it didn't go away. Then tried it on another computer, but the same thing happened. After that tried connecting a different lcd monitor of the same model to the system unit. The same result. Then I found out in one of these forum threads that it might be a graphics card problem. So tried fixing a graphics card to the AGP slot. But then no screen output came. So think something is wrong with the slot. Unfortunately, it's only the internal VGA which is working now.

After messing up with all these I tried replacing the PSU as the 3.3V was around 2.6V according to my system's BIOS. So it did seem to be a good fix for sometime till the CPU usage got high. The lines got back, but this time not much as before. No flashing either. The 3.3V now is around 3.2V. But now another problems has popped up. The BIOS keeps saying 'press F2 to reset defaults' at bootup. Is it something to do with the CMOS battery or the motherboard?

Wonder whether all of these problems are connected with each other. So that's why gave the best possible explanation I could about the problems I have. Sorry if I'm too formal. I ain't a native speaker, so hope you guys excuse me for that. Hope I'll get s... Read more

Hello,My Lenovo laptop is not starting. When I press the power button the Lenovo logo appears. After that there is an error message and the laptop prepares for automatic repair. But as the repair screen comes up nothing happens thereafter. The black screen remains. Even tried reinstalling windows but after selecting the usb drive for booting nothing happens. The same black screen remains. Does anyone knows the issue?
