I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello
Here's my problem. My desktop computer was working fine. I used it in the morning than shut it down. A couple of hours later, it was impossible to connect to the internet. My router is working because all my Ipad and other devices can connect to the Wi-Fi network. The computer seems to be stuck in "Airplane mode" because i see the "Airplane mode" icon next to my internet acces icon. I can't find any way to shut off this airplane mode!

Please post make and full model of desktop

Go network and sharing centre
change adapter settings on left pane
What is shown please for wireless adapter and is it an installed card or a usb external wireless adapter

Hi everyone, I'm really close to throwing my laptop out the window. So I've had my thinkpad for awhile it was windows 8 from factory and I upgraded to windows 10 right when that released. The thing worked fine for years.  I decided to format and do a clean windows install, everything worked for a couple weeks then I turned on airplane mode and it never came out of it. I've tried the fn buttons, the physical wifi switch on the side. Updated biosupdated driversreinstalled windows It is still in airplane mode, the button is grayed out and doesn't respond.  I don't believe this is a result of a bad wireless card, but I'm ready to buy a new one just to try if nothing else works. Does anyone have any information or experience with this issue? Thanks

The first wk of Dec. my windows 10 version 1607 crashed and I finally took it to a computer shop. He finally told me that he couldn't get it back into windows 10 and suggested I re-install windows 7. After I brought it home I was busy with shopping and the holidays etc. Today I connected it and turned it on and it came up into windows 10 , but it is stuck in airplane mode. I have been into settings numerous times and there is no place to turn off airplane mode or turn on WI FI. Where should I go from here? I can't do much without getting online at this point. Thanks for any help in advance!!

Hi,
I was hoping someone know how to resolve this problem, the past couple of days i had multiple clients with no network connection they where working on a windows 10 computer.

Eventually we found why they had no connection it was because of airplane mode, some clients had the airplane icon on there screen. But the problem here was/is they cannot change the mode to something else, non of the default windows options to set airplane mode are available on a pc.

The only fix we found was setting the ipv4 settings manually -> rebooting the pc -> and change it back to automatic.

Does someone know how to change airplane mode on a pc where this option is normally not available, or another easy fix?

Many thanks,
Ricardo

I attempted to install Win 10 on my PC (running Win 7 Ultimate). Everything went fine, except I could not get an internet connection. My router was recognized, the wifi signal was strong - just no internet connection. The Airplane Mode was on on. It would not switch off. If you moved the slide switch, it just jumped back to on. I tried disconnecting and reconnecting, resetting the router, rebooting, using the repair feature (which indicated the possibility of driver problem with my wifi), but checking the driver status indicated if was fine. Any thoughts? I went back to Win 7.

I have a desktop PC and a laptop, both running Win10, on a HomeGroup network. I have a wi-fi router that connects via ethernet cable to the PC and wirelessly to the laptop.

About a week ago I stopped being able to connect to the network locations while using the laptop. Then I noticed that the PC was in Airplane mode. I suspect that as a result, the PC will not communicate wirelessly w/ the laptop. The internet connections for both the PC and the laptop continue to work properly.

I searched and discovered that this is a fairly common issue for Win10. I tried the usual troubleshooting steps, including turning the toggle for Airplane mode to Off (toggle doesn't appear becuz Airplane mode is not supposed to be an option for desktops). I also tried pressing the FN key + F12, but most desktop keyboards don't have an FN key and mine is no exception. And finally, I tried updating the drivers for the ethernet adapter, but it keeps telling me that I already have the latest drivers.

But while I was looking in the device manager, there was an entry for Cisco AnyConnect VPN Virtual Miniport Adapter for Windows x64. I occasionally use the Cisco VPN client to login to my employer's network, but I don't know why that would require an entry in the device manager. The VPN entry was marked w/ a down arrow, and after clicking on it, it showed that the device was disabled. I enabled it, but I still couldn't connect to the HomeGroup network.

I just (Dec. 19, 2015) completed the latest update to Windows 10, had trouble with my volume icon, fixed it, then found my wifi icon is stuck in airplane mode despite the laptop having full wifi functionality. Tried turning system icons on and off through the "task bar and start menu properties" dialog box, tried various combinations of "on" and "off" while restarting the entire system, nothing works. I've connected and reconnected wirelessly by both using a physical button (shaped like an antenna emitting parentheses-shaped waves) and by using the icon that's now stuck in airplane mode. I can access the internet, but I can't see the status in the task bar as I used to. All I see is the icon shaped like an airplane, even while I'm clearly not in airplane mode and when I should therefore be seeing the wifi icon.

I know this is a very specific situation, but does anyone know of a possible solution? As the wifi connection can be unstable, it would be nice to have the icon functioning again so I know at a glance when my wifi is out.

How to Turn on/off Airplane mode in Windows 10
Review this document.
Use hardware switchMany devices have a hardware switch to turn on or off the Airplane mode. You can use that button or switch to turn off all the wireless signals from your device. However, Microsoft says that using a hardware switch may not necessarily disable all the wireless communications. Some Windows Store apps have the ability to bypass the hardware switch to connect to GPS or cellular data. The best method, according to Microsoft, is to use the Airplane mode button available via Notifications in System Tray.Use Notifications shortcutTo toggle the state of Airplane mode in Windows 10, click on Notifications icon. Scroll down to see the options. Click on the button saying Airplane mode to turn it on or off.
Use Windows 10 SettingsYou can also use Settings to turn the airplane mode off or on in Windows 10. Follow these steps:* Open Start Menu* Click on Settings* Click on Network and InternetChange Airplane mode to OffChange Wireless devices to OnIf Windows 10 is stuck in Airplane mode, here are few things you may want to try. Before you begin, make sure that if your device has a physical Wi-Fi On/Off button or switch, it is set to the On position.* Try pressing the Fn+Radio Tower key. On my Dell,... Read more

Hello,

Before I start my Thread i apologize for me English, It is just from google translate.

My girlfriend's laptop had been a BSOD. This includes the kernel power Event ID 41. This issue seems to be the WiFi driver. Now I want to update it, but that is not the current problem. If I take the laptop out of airplane mode, the screen flickers blue and I can do nothing. If the laptop on airplane mode, nothing happens and operates the laptop normally.
How can I solve this problem? If Annex I added the ZIP file of the dm_log_collector. I hope to have sufficiently informed you with this.

this is a many faceted and increasing in facets issue (ill try to make it as short as possible);

backstory:
the male side of my video cable connection (the part on the motherboard) had bent pins; the pins were unbent and the cable was able to fit back in, BUT

problems:
the picture was garbled--wrong colors, moving lines, etc. the people at a tech store told me the video cable was pinched and knowing that it had been jammed in the hinge for a while, i believed it extremely feasible. I finally ordered a new video cable but replaced it, and to no avail. the picture may have been slightly better--but not significantly if so; additionally (and im not sure if it was this way the first time as well) the computer was displaying at the size of the external.

i restarted, and reazlied that the laptop screen displayed nothing at startup, until logged in--exactly like the external. i figured that at least a portion of what was going on was the computer was sending the external screen signal to the laptop.

things i've tried:

-reseating both ends of the new video cable MANY times
-turning the computer off, taking out battery, holding start button, putitng battery back in, restarting
-every variation of screen resolution/external monitor setting
-pluggin in the external, putting laptop to sleep, unpluggnig external
-reinstalling video/image drivers
function key combinations

My daughter has a Dell laptop with Win 8.1 this has been broken many times and she's returned it (she bought a 2 year warranty which is good) it's needed the harddrive replaced at least twice. That's not the problem, but the last 2 times it came back from being fixed, it's been in AIRPLANE MODE. this happened the last time it came back from getting fixed, and I googled it and she tried various things, even taking the battery out and waiting and putting it back in. It won't connect to WiFi and says it's in Airplane mode. The last time she kept trying to use it and a few days later it started working okay. This time, I was googling this and found some complicated answers, going in to settings, etc. and also found a lot of other people who were having the same problem and couldn't figure out how to change it. I don't know much about Windows 8, even just getting around in it, I still have Windows 7 and this is what I like.
Is there a simple way to turn off Airplane Mode, or even disable it? There is very little chance she will be taking a plane, or bringing the laptop with her on one, and I think a lot of planes now allow the use of WiFi so it isn't even needed.
Oh, her warranty was up in Aug and she returned it the last time the end of July (it needed the hd replaced for the 2nd time) and they gave her a hard time about this because it was almost up and she'd returned it to have it fixed 2 times before. So, she can't call t... Read more

Most Dell laptops have a physical switch which turns the WiFi adapter On or Off. When the switch is off and there is no wired connection to the Internet, the laptop shows to be in Airplane mode. If the switch if On and the laptop is still in Airplane mode, the WiFi adapter could be disabled. From Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections look at the status of the WiFi adapter; if it shows as 'Disabled', just right click on it and select 'Enable'.

I had an issue with AVG that was locking up the machine.   I was able to remove AVG in safemode, but after rebooting my laptop, I now have no internet connectivity.  I am running Windows 10.  When I go into the settings for network and internet, I have an option for Dial-up, VPN, airplane mode.   There is no option for Ethernet nor wifi.  When I click on airplane mode and attempt to set the toggle switch to off, it will not move...it simply slides back to the on position.   I've gone into device manager and attempted to update the driver (which is Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 802.11 bgn wifi adapter) and it tells me that it's up to date.  I then disabled it per instructions that I found online, and rebooted.  It reinstalled the drivers, and again says that the drivers are up to date.  Another option was for me to go to properties for the adapter and hit the power managment and Clear off the option that says Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.  However, there is no power managment tab?!?!?! Also, when I view the Network Connections folder, it is empty.  I'm at a loss.  I've tried everything that I can think of.  My wife needs this PC with internet access to run her online business, but it's utterly useless at this point. I could really use some assistance. Thanks!

Here goes......
I'm running Windows 8.1.1 on a Dell Inspiron 15 (3000 series) laptop.

I wanted to take a screenshot and I'm almost sure I pressed "Ctrl" when my cat FLEW onto my laptop. The next thing I knew I was in Airplane Mode (maybe that was Nalah's ulterior motive!). I tried 13 different remedies I found on MS support, Google, etc. but to no avail. What I did learn from the non-MS advice was that this problem is one that MS itself does not know how to fix. Still, having gone without sleep for two days and needing to meet an urgent deadline on a project, I contacted MS support. I admit that I need to have my head examined for spending 9 hours (yes, 9!!!!!) - one of which was spent running a diagnostic that found an error but not one that is connected to Airplane Mode. At that point, the battery on my phone died and I lost the call and spent the next 45 minutes trying to call back. After 9 hours on the phone/chat with them, I was told that if I pay $129 (for a year), one of their senior technicians could assist me. That's when I decided I'd rather pay you!

That being said, the main problem is that I cannot move the slide that turns off Airplane Mode. Obviously, the problem is deeper than just that.

Having a brainstorm (which is a big thing since I'm not very computer savvy), I plugged my laptop directly into the router/modem and, lo and behold, I was a... Read more

Sorry for the question. I removed the USB wireless and the wired connection functions properly now. I had tried warm and cold rebooting to no avail. I have not installed any new software, I ran the hp support assistant to look up for some updates and nothing, I've done everything I can, turned it off manually in network settings, used some kind of fn+printscreen combination and nothing, uninstalled the wireless drivers and reinstalled them and nothing happened,  I have internet because I have plugged in a LAN cable and the airplane doest not mess with that. please help me, this is driving me crazy!

My Acer ES1-521 has had a problem for the past week.  Wifi does not work because airplane mode is turned on and it can't turn off.  It is running Windows 10.  I've tried:1. turning it off using control panel / network & internet / airplane mode / switch off.  (The switch keeps moving back to the 'on' position)2. Pressing "Fn" and "F3" (which has the antenna wifi symbol) simultaneously.3. Looking for a manual wifi switch which is sometimes on laptops - but this laptop does not have one. I'm out of ideas!  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a USB cable going to a UPS battery backup? If you do, unplug it.Try he fixes here:http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-networking/windows-10-airplane-mode-wont... If that doesn't work, try unpluging that laptop, turn it over and find the tiny pin hole for resetting the battery, press gently into the hole with a paperclip  until you feel a faint click and hold it for 5 seconds.

I am having to post this from my phone We are on a trip and our laptop is stuck in airplane mode. I have done a system restore twice. Actually the second one is running right now. The computer is a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series. It was new at Christmas. It is running Win10.
I tried to find a way to search the forum but couldn't find it on my phone version. I would really appreciate if someone could help.

on Dells - this seems to have fixed the airplane issue on a few dells on various forums - PtrScr+Fn
1. Please see your function Keys . Either F2 or the PtrScr+Fn key ( ptrscr is next to F12 key and Fn is near Ctrl key - Press both together) enables or disables the Airplain Mode in Dell systems.Click to expand...
