P50 freezes for a second when playing video/audio from HDD

Q: P50 freezes for a second when playing video/audio from HDD

Hello, I've been noticing something since I got my P50 that is very irritiating. I am running Windows 10 on a M.2 SSD and using the stock HDD for storage. I have a couple of games stored on the HDD along with a library of some music. Whenever I play a game, I notice 1 second freezing of both video and audio before the game resumes back. The games I'm playing are very light pre 2011 games that I used to run on my old laptop. To further cement the point, I have a dac/amp connected to the P50 via a USB port. Music will be playing and suddenly things stop for a second or so before it resumes. If I am to guess what is happening, I might say the HDD is trying to go to sleep in those moments I notice the 1 second freezing. If that is the case, what can I do to stop that ?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When I am using Microsoft Office or most programs, everything runs fine. But when I try to run a Video or Audio file, the entire system freezes within about 3 to 10 minutes. I've tried the following:
New video card = nothing
Different Audio & Video players = nothing
Scan for virus or malware = nothing
Check for overheating = system is running cool
Paging is OK
Too many processes? = I don't think so. I've been monitoring them while running both audio and video.

I'm at my wit's end. I've been dealing with this since May. Not sure what else I can do to fix problem.

Here is my info:

I've had this issue since installing Windows 7 (32 bit) over 2 months ago and have been actively seeking a fix for the majority of those two months. In windows XP pro (32 bit), I had no issues whatsoever. The problem manifests itself as a complete hang of all system functions and inability to interact with my computer aside from moving the pointer around. This only occurs when I am playing some sort of media (mp3, avi, mp4, mkv, etc) on any media player that I had installed at the current time of testing (WMP12, VLC, Realplayer). The initial response is a hang of the system which then can become a freeze if I click around too much during the hang. After approximately 3-5 minutes the problem is alleviated and the system plays catchup with the video/audio sync.Below is a complete rundown on my system and fixes floating from other threads that I have attempted. My System Spec:

Windows: Windows 7 Ultimate (32 Bit) Version 6.1 Build 7600Motherboard: Gigabyte Ds4-X48 Crossfire ReadyGPU: ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB 256Bit DDR5

This is inexcusable! I paid over a grand for my Dell. Does Dell care that I don't even make a living wage? Capitalists are freaking monsters. And you won't get me to change my mind about that no matter how many hospitals in Yemen you bomb or how much you rant about non existent Russian aggression. Cost cutting? I think neoliberal capitalism, and gangster Corporatocracy and mafia capitalism are all things we can't afford, ergo... I don't even earn a living wage while corporations cost cut, job cut. tax evade and push governments to sign evil "free trade" agreements giving them more power, at our expense. Okay, so I purchased a brand new computer (in parts) from NewEgg. I got:

Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3 R Motherboard

Galaxy GTX550TI Video Card 2GB DDR5

Zephyr MX-750 (750 Watts)

AMD 6-core FX-6100 3.3Ghz Processor

A single 8GB 1333Mhz DDR3 RAM stick

A 1 TB Hard drive which I used as my main, and I owned a previous 1TB Hard Drive which I am using as my secondary.

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate. I've played Guild Wars, League of Legends, and Skyrim, and anywhere between 10-60 minutes, my pc will crash, freezing up completely and the sound will get stuck. I've gone 8+ hours with the PC on while in the Skyrim Construction set, using Microsoft Word, and browsing the net. At one point, I got the Blue Screen of Death (Only 1 incident) with the following code: 0x0000001E

I've updated everything, video card, motherboard, any windows component, updated. I ran my antivirus in case I brought anything from the old 2ndary HD, nada. There have also been a couple cases where we could smell something hot. Not burning, just hot.

It continued to freeze when I tried to play ANY game, so I sent the video card back. Had to be the video card, what else could it be? I got the new one today. It lasts longer, but it continues to freeze when playing any video games. I have part replacement/refund from NewEgg for another 20 days, I need to figure this out now. Help!!!

What freaks me out is that EVERYTHING is new. No idea what I can do in this particular situation.

A few days ago my PC started randomly playing audio and freezing. I'm using Windows 7 home premium 64 bit Service Pack 1 Build 6.01.7601 I've had to turn to power off several times. I use McAfee firewall, virus and spyware protection. After the problems started I ran Super anti spyware (which only found tracking cookies) and Malwarebytes which didn't find anything. At the moment I'm using Google Chrome as the browser and my computer hasn't frozen yet so I think IE may be infected.
I would appreciate any help with this.

Hey all,

After months of problems and spent money on people trying to solve my problem i am hoping i have found the best help i can.

My problem has been happening for a while now, here it is.

When playing video files such as AVI, DIV X, and when streaming video such as live streaming and video previews on internet my PC will freeze, nothing will move or work. You cant hit Ctrl + Alt & Del, move the mouse or keyboard. It is completly frozen and will not move. This happens all the time with the videos, mainly on the Internet watching previews and streaming video.

Now when i turn the power off on the PC and restart, the Windows XP loading screen is all blocky and pixelated, you cant really make out what it says, all the colours are mixed up like white etc. Again it has frozen and will not progress any further. I then have to keep restarting all the time to eventually after about the 6th time i can get onto my desktop! This always happens only when my pc has frozen from playing videos!

I dont get it, im stuck and i dont know what else to do! People have said to me it could be - Not enough memory (but i have 1gb RAM) that should well be enough for steaming video and especially playing it! - not enough disk space (but i have loads 300gb)

So i hope you guys can finally help me! please! lol

I'm not sure if this is the right section of the forum to post, but here goes.

I've been experiencing some random freezes with my computer recently, at times it will randomly freeze during games (e.g. Path of Exile, TitanFall) and even outside of games but the audio will continue to play on. Trying to use the keyboard's capslock button to check if the computer is still responding, tells me that it isn't (since the light doesn't change), so I tend to turn it off at this point via the power button.

After which, when the computer powers up, the monitor fails to detect that the computer is on, giving a "no signal" and/or continues sleeping. When this happens, I have to power cycle the computer multiple times until the monitor can pick up that the computer is on and shows something on screen.

I'm not sure if this is a PSU or GPU issue, but I've tried using driver cleaner on my ATI card recently and tested it using 3dmark basic and it didn't freeze then.

anytime I try to play audio with whatever application (Foobar2000, Teamviewer, it doesn't really matter) directly after boot, the whole machine becomes completely unresponsive for about a minute and the hard disk explodes, until the sound finally starts playing.

What the heck, is it so complicated to play a sound, does it really need to load 1 GB of data for that???

A:Playing audio after boot freezes machine for roughly one minute

With only 4GB of RAM and a 64 bit OS, I suspect its more a memory problem. The sound is just a product of the system not responding, and its not actually a "sound" problem.

64 bit OS is really intended for systems with more than 4GB of RAM. A 64 bit OS uses more basic memory than a 32 bit OS and thus less RAM remains for programs.

Just as the title suggests, I literately made an account for this site specifically to see if I can get any help on this problem.
My computer freezes randomly only while playing video games, the freeze isn't a blue screen or a crash, the computer literately freezes to something like a screenshot of what I was doing in game and nothing I can do except restarting the computer can unfreeze it. Sometimes a similar freeze occurs while playing, then 2 seconds later it unfreezes as if the computer is lagging behind the game play, making me believe that this problem is either caused by the OS or the graphics card (my power supply is brand new, but it is a possibility). This is very difficult to to troubleshoot since the freeze is random, but I can conclude that the freeze occurs usually after 2-3 hours of playing.
One solution I attempted was turning off Link State Power Management but it didn't work.

For the past few days, if I connect my earphone(3.5mm audio jack) when some video is being played, be it in Facebook or YouTube or in the vlc media player
1. The laptop starts hanging. The video that is being played breaks, the system becomes extremely slow, can not even move the cursor.
2. The internet is disconnected (i.e.) I use the WiFi, in the notification bar at the bottom, it simply is disconnected. The WiFi icon only has a red 'X', and no WiFi network is shown, even though my WiFi is switched.
3. I have to restart the machine to use it normally
But if the video is not playing, and I connect the audio jack, nothing happens.
Has any one happened to have had such an issue ? Or can anyone suggest how do I start with identifying the root cause ? Please suggest. Thanks in advance.

Hello. I need your advice or assistance with a specific issue.

When I play long videos on YouTube (Say over 5 minutes long.) sometimes (not always) I get an issue with the video playing at the near or the end of the video.

These are the sequence of steps of what is happening near the end or a later part of the playing video:

1. Video usually instantly freezes (as a still image) while the sound is still being played. Mouse and keyboard (sometimes) not responsive and other times I can move the mouse, but none of the buttons like closing the web browser will close. This can last 1-2 seconds. I notice at times too when I click on another system activity, for example clicking on another tab in the browser while the video is playing, this video freeze will happen instantly in a longer playing video too.

2. After the frozen still image which lasts for 1-2 seconds , the screen flashes quickly black a couple of times for a total time of 1-2 seconds.

3. After the brief black screen flashes, I get the screen clipping I have attached here (see below). The video screen is solid green, and the message from the notification area stating, "Display driver stopped responding and had recovered. Display driver AMD driver stopped responding and has successfully recovered." The mouse and keyboard are fully operational at step 3. The video will not respond. Obviously, video play cannot be resumed. I have to close the browser window and start all over again if I want to... Read more

A:Online Video Playing Issues -- Freezes & Crashes???

The green video is a known bug with Flash. It isn't AMD or Nvidia specific and can happen on either equally. It can also happen from one driver update to the next, with no real rhyme or reason as to when or why it happens.

Not sure that I have ever seen what exactly causes it or if it will ever be fixed. That said one of the fixes for it is to disable the hardware acceleration support in Flash. Just right click on the video (normal or green) and select settings, then uncheck "enable hardware acceleration". Refresh the page and it should be OK.

That should take care of the green video problem and hopefully also fix the other problems with flash videos crashing the driver.

I've installed the latest driver 4 my gfx card (integrated) , I've scanned with kaspersky, panda, avg, ad-aware and windows defender and I've cleaned up my registry and disk with Ccleaner.

I've got 223 MB RAM, which seems to get eaten up as fast as heck during start-up and afterwards, so I downloaded XP FreeRAM Pro or w/e. It got 4 stars on download.com and IMO it works well. Computer temps are within safe levels (40 -55c max) and it makes no distinct sounds when frozen. When it freezes, the screen stays still and sound turns off. Basic functions like turning on the CAPS lock light are working. I've got my PC tuned up for fast performance, no desktop BG, no window effects (it looks like windows 98) only 4 desktop icons (including the mystring thing). I only got ZoneAlarm firewall, AVG and FreeRam on my taskbar. Still slow, sometimes. I dunno what else to do.

I'm running on an AMD Duron, with VIA motherboard (with S3 Unichrome integrated gfx)
and VIA AC97 audio controller (which i haven't found an update for).

Any suggestions? Thx in advance.

Oh, and it freezes on low-end games. Pharaoh only needs 32 MB RAM and I can't run it w/o freezing it's maddening.

Hi everyone,

A few days ago my computer started freezing whenever I watched video with any media player or online. The video will play from anywhere between 30 seconds and a few minutes. I'm getting no error codes, no BSOD, no screen tear or blocks, the video and audio just freeze and I get no keyboard or mouse response so I have to restart the computer. I get no problems just being online or using word processors, seems only problem is when I play video or play games.

I've had issues with my graphics card before so I'm guessing that's the problem again, but I'm not sure so that's why I'm here.

My computer specs are:

Intel i5 2500k Sandy Bridge
ASrock P67 Pro3
8GB G.Skill Ripjaw
ASUS nVidia GTX 560Ti

I just ran FurMark stability test on fullscreen and I was averaging 100fps and 75C for 60k frames with no problems. Don't know if that helps at all.

If you need more info I'll do what I can to get it for you. Thanks for taking any time to help me out.

First off, I don't crash playing other games that I know of. I can play Wildstar for hours with no issue. I also don't seem to crash playing video in IE. I've tried turning off adblock and it's possible that I freeze less on sites like Hulu and YouTube but the freeze is so intermittent that I can't be sure of that.
What I AM sure of is that I freeze within 5 minutes of logging into TERA. My temps are fine. High 40s, low 50s, far below thermal runaway. Ok, Now the problem is that whenever I play any video game (such as GTA IV, Devil may Cry DMC, Metro: Last Light), my computer screen just freezes after 5 to 10 minutes of gameplay. My keyboard and mouse stops working and the sound just stops. Only way to get out of this freeze is to restart the system manually. Recently I put out my graphics card from the motherboard and played the above mentioned games with intel hd graphics 4600 (Built-in) and no freeze occur whatsoever and I played for hours.

But my gpu never had any of these problems when it was installed in my old system and games works just fine. Need to mention that my gpu is PCI-E 2.0 and my motherboard supports a PCI-E 3.0 graphics card. I have read many forums that motherboards have backward compatibility and can run 2.0 cards as well. Also used windows memory diagnostic tool and it did'nt find any problems with the ram.I have also stressed the graphics card using Furmark but my gpu temp. reaches to abotu 100"C and I stopped the test.

Please help me out here because I dont want to purchase a new card and I am just curious that it might b... Read more

A:Computer Screen freezes only while playing video games....Help

Since you have already tested your system without the video card and it works fine for hours Also that when u ran furmark your Video card temps went out of control
now Since you don't want to purchase a new video card I would say to add a fan to cool your video card and see what happens
At this point it is looking like your video card is the issue and the games such as metro last light is a very heavy game even on ultra low settings which will push your video card causing it to over heat and freezes

System: AMD Athlon CPU, Asus A7N266-VM motherboard, 256MB DDR RAM, 4GB HDD.

I'm unable to play any audio file using WMP9, Crystal Player & Ulead video editing software.

When I try to open an mpeg file with Crystal, I get a message 'can't init directsound for playing audio'.

When I use WMP9 or Ulead, the video file plays without any sound. WMP9 does not play any audio file - MP3, Wav either from the HDD or the CDRom player. I'm able to play CDs thru my LG CDRom player.

WMP9 gave me the following report :
0xC00D11BA: Cannot play the file
Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device, such as a sound card or sound controller. You may encounter this error message for one of the following reasons:

Your sound device is in use by another program. Quit other programs that may be using your sound device, and then try to play the file again.
Your sound device is not functioning properly. To troubleshoot the problem, see the Sound Troubleshooter in Windows Help or refer to your sound device's documentation.
You do not have a sound device installed on your computer. Install a sound device, and then try to play the file again.

How I can fix this problem?

A:No audio when playing video files

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Go into your device manager, and check to see if there are any yellow exclamation or question marks next to your audio devices.

You could also try reinstalling the drivers for your sound device.

If you`ve got onboard sound then you will need to go to your mobo manufacturers website, and download the latest drivers from there.

If on the other hand, you`ve got a seperate soundcard, then go to the soundcard manufacturers website, and download the drivers from there.

I have a Toshiba laptop running windows 7. I can play videos, cds I have sound for everything except when I try to play a video file (.mov) from an SD card. The video plays perfectly only there's no sound at all. I have tried downloading decoders, but that doesn't help besides I don't know how to use them. I have also downloaded windows 7 codecs but again the configure window looks the same as all the others & doesn"t seem to make a difference, still no sound. Any help?

This laptop was used before I got it. The problem that I am having is that while I play an audio file the mouse will start to lag and the audio will make this weird buzzing sound and sometimes will sound like its in slow motion or speed up. If I try to watch a video it will either never load or lag very badly. If I don't close it out when that happens (Both audio and video) it will blue screen. The mouse also sometimes just lags when I'm doing nothing but moving it across the screen. I've ran a few virus scans that found nothing.

I don't know if this is needed. But this showed up so I copied it.

Hello and welcome N mate try running these for starters

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html< if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2 (in safe mode if you like)

if no go then run these it is only for elimination purposes because I think you may have a graphics driver issue - see below for drive download

ADW download frombleeping computer delete any rubbish found with the malware scans

(NB If one is runningKaspersky security it may rant about ADW - just ignore it or disable Kasperskywhile the ADW is being used)

i-tunes/WMP/youtube playing too fast

I have a custom built PC with an external soundcard via USB (Creative Soundblaster 24). A friend installed a new harddrive (Seagate OEM 500GB Barracuda 7200.12 Internal Hard Disk Drive)
(7200RPM, SATA, 16MB Cache) into the PC and copied all my files from an old PC to this PC. All audio/video worked fine on this PC until everything was copied over including version of microsoft xp.

Sometimes the videos/songs play normal and then other times it will go really fast or jump a second at a time.

I have a list of codecs if needed.

I really need someone to help me with this problem. Any extra information needed i will try to get it

I encountered this odd problem. I recently switched to windows 10 from 7. When I play video from the monitor (via dvi cable), it plays fine, but as soon as the big screen TV (connected via hdmi) is turned on, the sound goes off. This happens with potplayer as well as vlc player, so it's probably not application related. However, I go to windows sound setting and I can hear the test sounds (while big screen TV is on) - just not from the video. I never encountered this before in windows 7.

If you need any other information to help diagnose, please advise.

Thank you!

when ever i restart my computer movie plays fine for about 5 min. then the audio starts to play slower than audio

Is there any way to tell if i have a software conflict?

A:video is playing slower than audio

Try another movie file and see what happens. You can always open it with another player. It can happen when you are running or downloading another program at the same time. Make sure nothing else is running in the background. Try these steps first. Regards Grassy

I have recently been going to major news sites such as CBS and NBC, but also some other video streaming sites. When I press play, I get a giant 3,2,1.... and then no actual video image plays but only the audio. I'm not sure how or why this started. And so, that is why I am asking for assistance so I can actually go back to watching videos online.

I have a windows 7 home premium 64 bit computer. I am trying to play an avi file. It only plays the video and not the audio. Any solutions?

A:AVI file playing video and not audio

You might need to install a codec pack. If you have not installed any others give sharks a try.

Sharks007 Codec Pack.

When installed run the shortcut in admin mode. That will reset the codecs & you should be good to go.

I've noticed that my Realtek audio driver is preventing my computer from playing online video, ie msn, etc. Yet, when I disable the Realtek driver I'm able to play the video. But, then I'm not able to hear any sound. Any suggestions on how to fix this conflict? My audio driver is the most recent driver update from the dell website. So, I know that can't be the problem.

It's a relatively beefy system and gets really good fps for most games at any video settings. Recently, however, I've noticed that a lot of games would "stutter" for half a second every couple of minutes or so. The screen and all sounds would freeze for half a second and then jump back into action.

My desktop has the following specs:

Motherboard: Gigabyte P67A-UD3

CPU: Intel Sandybridge Core i5-2500K

RAM: 12 GB (2x4gb + 2x2gb) 1333 MT/s DDR3

BIOS: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG

GPU: Nvidia Geforce gtx 460 1gb

SSD: ADATA 64 GB S599 Sandforce 2.5-Inch SATA II 3.0Gb/s

HDD: WD Caviar Green 2TB 64MB/SATA-3G
Everything else is running smoothly other than this problem.

I have the latest driver for my graphics card: 296.10, however this problem has existed on version 295.73 and 285.62 of the driver as well.

GPU Temperatures peak at 60 C during max load
CPU Temperatures peak at 50 C during max load

CPU usage peaks at ~30% for the game that I most recently noticed the problem on (DOTA 2), and doesn't rise any higher during stuttering
GPU usage averages at ~20% and rose to a highest at 60%. During the stutter the gpu load seems to decrease to single digits for the half second and then rise back up to 20-30%.

Games I've noticed this on:
dota 2
just cause 2
starcraft 2
(hmm, maybe my computer hates sequels)

Here's a hijackthis log:
I've also attached the log for convenience

A:Periodic system freezes for half a second while playing any video game

Hi Welcome to TSF

first of all do you know the Frequency of both 2 GB and 4GB RAm sticks? What I am getting at is that we recommend running same size and same frequency RAM and in my case I like to run all same model RAM
when you mix and match ram like that than you have issues such as one on your hand

First thing to start would be to remove all 2GB sticks and run only 2 x 4GB RAM
and see if you still have same issues
if you do swap it out with 2x2GB and see how your system runs

also follow this article and post the files here
