ACER Desktop with Windows 8 upgrading to Windows 8.1

Q: ACER Desktop with Windows 8 upgrading to Windows 8.1

Original ACER desktop with Windows 8 and it was upgraded through the Windows Store to Windows 8.1
The upgrade came up with errors "the Secure Boot watermark".
I tried various things suggested to fix the error but was unable to.
I backed up the computer data.
I formatted the drive and installed Windows 8.1 from a thumb drive and it installed correctly without errors.
I was unable to install a Product Key Licence as the computer had it imbedded in the bios and I have no label with the key on the machine.
I should not have to purchase another licence. How do I find the original licence key?
I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi all I'm new here I just finished typing up a well thought out post only to be asked to log in after hitting post and to find I had to start again GRRRRRRRRR

Ok so I will start again and keep it short and brief this time.

I need help please I want to upgrade my computers RAM I'm a begginer by the way but try my hardest to understand and research all I can. I'm glad to have found this forum cause it's a speedier process having people experienced in the area to look to for advice apposed to trying to learn it all on my own and figure it out. Anyways my computers details are:

*Acer Aspire T300 Desktop PC
*Windows XP Home Edition 2002 32 bit
*Intel Celeron CPU 2.50GHz
*248mb Ram

I'm a beginner and have been doing extensive reading on how to upgrade Ram ect. Basically my computer sucks and it is forever out of virtual memory. From what I've read the amount of Ram I have is pathetic. So I want to upgrade to the maximum amount of Ram my computer can handle 2GB.

I've been on crucial.com and it recommended that to do this I get two of these:
1GB, 184-pin DIMM, DDR PC2700 memory module
CT524267
Module Size: 1GB
Package: 184-pin DIMM
Feature: DDR PC2700
Specs: DDR PC2700 • CL=2.5 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR333 • 2.5V • 128Meg x 64 •
I've been looking around locally as I live in New Zealand for compatible Ram that I can get to upgrade and have come across a few places. But one that I found new and cheap on a online auction... Read more

I will post a link to a computer that was purchased for me. I have been out of computer gaming for awhile and have recently started playing a game called Dayz. It is a modifcation for a game called Arma 2. The computer runs most things that I have played fairly well. However, Arma is a high demand game which typically gets me under 20FPS. I was thinking of getting rid of the computer and buying a new one or upgrading some parts inside. From what I have been reading, processor, video card, ram and power supply would be good places to start. I haven't taken the computer apart yet to look inside and see what I can add to the current motherboard. Budget is a concern and I don't want to go crazy. I don't need to play on ultra settings but normal or high would be nice. Any suggestions would be great. Without knowing your full system specs I would say, you could probably get by with a GPU and power supply upgrade. Do you know what size power supply you have in the machine? I'm also assuming you don't have a dedicated graphics solution, since you have an AMD-A6 CPU.

I have a HP P6522f Win 7 Pro desktop. Couple years ago I added a WD green 3 TB internal HD as a simple volume for pics and vids storage. Never had any problems. couple months ago I upgraded to Win 10 and the WD drive became nonfunctional and disappeared
from the my computer drives list. I opened disk manager, the drive was there but missing some of its info. It could not be initialized or formatted. Infact, not even 1 function worked. I went into the disks events list. It stated the "disk could not be
migrated" several times then "disk was deleted" and then "could not be migrated" again. I used a hard drive plug and play and tried it on my surface pro 3 and got the same negative results. I took the drive to Micro Center and the
tech plugged it in to a computer there, the drive booted up and was initialized with no problems. The drive had in deed been deleted but I did have the files backed up. the drive then reformatted and was working fine. I went home and installed it back on my
HP and it still would not work. It had the same problem as before I brought it in to Micro center. Does anybody have any idea what the problem could be. I have seen a similar type problem on a message board that suggested there could be a conflict with older
HP desk tops and hard drives larger than 2 TB. But there was no solution written. If anyone has a solution I would really be greatful.

Hard Drive crashed. I spent $795 for a data recovery company to recover the defective hard drive. I gave them a Western Digital Caviar Black 32MB Cache 7200 RPM 1TB 3.0Gb/s SATAII hard drive to transfer all the recovered data to (included the original Vista system recovery files). The files were recovered 100%. I transferred the recovered files to a Seagate external usb 500GB hard drive. I used a ATA/IDE to USB adapter to and connected to my laptop to wipe the WD Caviar HD clean using Ubuntu and then partitioned (20GB / 980GB) and then formated (NTFS). However, Win7 would keep shutting down during Expanding Windows Files (21%, 33%, 55%, 56%, 63%....10 freakin' times until finally, it installed).

#2: I noticed the BIOS needed an updating. I couldn't figure out how to use a USB thumb drive to flash the BIOS in DOS at startup. Tried several times and several ways to no avail. Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

I think your Windows 7 partition is too small at 20 GB.

With a 1 TB hard drive you can afford to allocate more space for Windows - I'd suggest 100 GB should be more than enough for Windows 7 and any applications you install.

Boot from a Windows 7 DVD and use System Restore to roll back Windows to a point in time when your computer was functioning correctly. It allows you to undo system changes without affecting your personal files, such as e-mail, documents, or photos.

hey guys I have a possibly terminal case here I've worked on and cannot resolve. Brother's Acer desktop running windows 7 64-bit, he took the bait and switched to windows 10, and he is not a technical guy.
It ran into a bad device driver apparently and never booted win 10 successfully. Auto repair to no avail [he tried that about a hundred times].

short of pulling the drive and starting over again with a new drive, do any of you have a suggestion?

My system is roughly 5 months old. I had used the upgrade software that Acer provided to upgrade from Vista to 7 home premium. There was no issues with the install and everything worked great for a month and then it started going in to deep hibernation. The only way to wake it was to unplug the power from the tower. I did everything I could think of from editing the registry to updating drivers, to finally reinstalling everything. No go so I packed it up and sent it back to Acer. I just got it back from Acer's repair depot. They had to replace the motherboard, hard drive, and fans on the system. They performed a factory restore and told me that I was good to go and updating shouldn't be an issue. I went to use the upgrade dvd's from Acer and low and behold, the hibernation thing started again! It took me four attempts to restore it back to factory. Now it seems stable running Vista. I am in the process up updating the drivers and windows stuff so time will tell. Is it me or is Acer systems flakey?

Does anyone have any recommendations on how I can go about updating to Windows 7 without having to format every week? I have tried doing clean installs without going the upgrade path and it still behaves badly. Sometimes it won't even turn on. Or is it just possible that the pc I purchased just can't handle Windows 7?

A:Acer Aspire M3203 and Acer's Windows 7 upgrade software

Are you booting the Acer Win7 Upgrade Media DVD to do a clean install? You can do that to get the cleanest possible install, without the corruption that is imported from Vista in an in-place Upgrade.

The installer is driver-complete, but afterwards any missing drivers which don't quickly arrive in Optional Windows Updates can be found on the apps/drivers CD along with favorite apps like Works, cam, etc. Others can be found on the Acer Support Downloads webpage for your model computer, Adobe (flash, Reader) and Java (runtime, free Ofc suite) sites.

Hey There

First of all: I'm a studend, so I can't speek good english, cause I live in Switzerland (plz write in German if you can )

So my Problem:

I've found a Acer Aspire 5920G with Windows Vista. This was so slow and annoying . So I deleded the whole OS and installed Win 7 Home Premium x64. Now I'm searching some drivers for my Notebook. My biggest Problem is the sound driver.
In Vista, there was a tool called "Acer eAudio Manager". I want to install it, because you can switch the equalizer to movie, music and game (and it sounds awesome with the bassbooster=D). I've downloaded the driver from the website and there was a error:

"This software can only be installed in authorized machine"

what can I do to install this tool? Some other tools, like acer power management or acer enet management, works great.

I thought I ask in this forum, because there were some good topics about the mouspad and synaptic of the 5920G (wich helped me=D)

I hope you understand my question and can help me

Greetings

Are you selecting the Custom Install option or the Upgrade option? Also, is your current OS (Vista) 32bit or 64bit? What service pack do you have? You will need to know this. To check, simply right click on Computer, and click properties and you can find out there.

As the title suggests, I want to upgrade to my machine to Windows 64 bit doing a clean install. I was wondering though, since I have two physical drives installed, (one for the os and the other for media) will it just erase the contents of the drive I install it on or will it erase the contents of both drives? Thanks for any help on this.

Hi,

I had a worm in my computer. I think its gone now. I used Trend Micro System Cleaner. I think its gone because I can open up my C drive now and I can install anti-virus applications which I couldn’t do before. However there seems to be some residual damage. IE8 Still doesn’t work (but FF does) and every time I click a link in Google I get redirected to somewhere else. Also HiJack-This closes down every time I try to run a system scan.
My question is:

Is my worm still active, or is this just damaged registry entries or something else? I have run Trend Micro and Avast and I haven’t found anything.

I don’t have a Vista disk. It didn’t come with my laptop, so I can’t reinstall VISTA to fix the registry. Can I install Windows 7 Beta to fix the registry? I’m scheduled to receive my own copy in late October or early November.

I have downloaded IE8 and tried to reinstall but no joy.

Hello, my Lenovo ideapad flex 15 is giving me blank screen after I tried to upgrade it to Windows 10. After downloading the upgrade the system recommended to reboot. I did exactly that but right after that I am getting black screen. Even bios wouldn't show up. I tried to do hard reboot . And reset. Surging access power . Ram stick is fine. I think if I can bring it back to the original windows 8 it will fix it. But the bios wouldn't show up either. I don't have the recovery disc. I really need some advice to fix it. Your help will be highly appreciated. Thank you.

I successfully upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 on my Vostro 3500 computer, but when I tried to do the same on my Vostro 3700 running the very same operating system, I ran into trouble. On the Vostro 3700 everything in Windows 10 seems to be okay, except I cannot connect to the Internet. To make Windows 7 run properly after a complete system wipe and reinstall, I had to install two network drivers which I obtained from the Dell site. They work in Windows 7, but one will not install in Windows 10. If the Vostro 3500 can run Windows 10, it seems that the Vostro 3700 should be able to, also.

A:No Internet connection -- Upgrading Vostro 3700 from Windows 7 to Windows 10

Both the 3500 and the 3700 were never tested to work with Windows 10. That being the case, by installing it your on your own unfortunetly. From what I have heard most Windows 7 drivers do not work with windows 10 and normally people would install Windows 8.1 drivers as a work around, but the 3700 doesn't seem to have anything available past Windows 7. If you are dealing with the RealTek or Intel drivers, you can go to their websites and see if there is a work around or update of drivers for your particular card.

Now that Microsoft has finally started offering the free Windows 10 upgrade to users across the world, we?re seeing quite a lot of people trying to clean install the new operating system and thus avoid the painful process that the upgrade could turn out to be in case of compatibility issues or any other problems experienced during download and install.

And while the clean install worked for every single version of Windows released in the past, it doesn?t work for Windows 10, so you must not attempt to clean install Windows 10 without upgrading first!

The reason is as simple as it could be: the product keys you have for Windows 7 or 8.1 won?t work in Windows 10 and in order to benefit from the free upgrade, you need to perform the direct upgrade first.

How Windows 10 activation works
Microsoft explains how exactly this process works:

?Once your device upgrades to Windows 10 using the free upgrade offer and activates online automatically, an entitlement is registered to your PC?s hardware for your edition of Windows 10. (If you go to Settings >> Update & Security >> Activation says ?Windows is activated?.) Now you will be able to clean install (i.e. boot from media and install Windows 10) the same edition of Windows 10 seamlessly without having to enter a product key.?

In other words, once you perform the direct upgrade to Windows 10 and the operating system is activated, you can perform the clean install how many times you want, as the g... Read more

A good friend of mine went ahead and updated from Win 7 to win 10 without backing up anything (despite my objections) and now has windows live mail but any of his old email messages are gone. I would suspect they are in the windows. Old folder in .app but not sure. Does windows 10 store the emails in the .app file like win 7? I haven't gone over to help him yet. I am using Win 7 and will upgrade once I know that everything is working with 10.

A:Lost windows live mail messages after upgrading to windows 10.

Hi munybuny You should try to see if you can find anything under the folders listed in this article.http://www.pcworld.com/article/189238/win_live_mail_store.htmlIf they are really under the windows.old folder, it should be:C:\windows.old\Users\$USERNAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail

I have Windows XP Professional 32 bit. I have done some searching and found that I can upgrade to Windows Vista Professional 32 bit without losing my programs and data. My question is:
Is there a website that I can download the upgrade or would it be best just to buy the upgrade disc?

A:Upgrading Windows XP Professional to Windows Vista Professionl

I believe you would be better off buying the upgrade disk. I do not know of anyplace Vista can be downloaded legally. But, if you can run Vista, I would advise you to check if you can run Windows 7 instead which is a much better option. You should also make sure if there are Vista or Window 7 drivers available for all of your devices.

Hi All

been here before, but when I tried to recover old accounts password emails weren't recognized, anyways wondering what the exact cost would be to upgrade from WIndows 10 Home to Pro? Currently my 8 Core System is Running Windows 10 Home, kinda missing bitlocker encryption like my old System had, and also Remote Desktop and such. (Old System was HP P6-2133W, with OEM Windows 7, 8.0 and finally 8.1 with Media Center which autoly got updated to Pro when I upgraded on July 29th 2015), didn't have unused media center key, so have to wait now til I can afford Pro version for this system

A:Exact Cost to Upgrading from Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro?

If you need to connect to your Windows 10 system, you can use something like Teamviewer, rather than pay for an OS upgrade. There aren't many reasons for a non-domain computer to need Pro, so I wouldn't spend any money on it. If you have a previous version of Windows that's a Professional or above, you can just activate that with Window 10 Pro.

So recently I picked up an Elgato Game capture HD, to find out that the software required to use it only runs on Windows 7 & 8. I have Windows Vista Home Premium...

... I was wondering if there is a (legal) way of upgrading to Windows 7 or 8 for free? I read online (2009 article) that you can upgrade using the SIN code on the bottom right hand side of your computer.

I think it's about time that I upgrade haha.

If it helps, my computer is an Acer.

If anyone can help, I'd really, REALLY appreciate it!
