Windows Media Player Track Count

Q: Windows Media Player Track Count

I have the newest version of Windows Media Player(11.0). How can i determine how many tracks there are in the media player? I have been digging around and i cant seem to find it. version 10 of media player just had it written on the bottom, but this one dosent. I was used to the other version and this one requires me to hunt for all the features i loved from the older one. seems like the new version is harder to use. or maybe its just me. Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have Windows Media Player (V12) and when I burn a CD, I can't get the song names on the tracks.

I tried a Plug In called WMDCDTest V1.4 - no luck here. I've looked all over and can't find a plug in to give me song names.

I've got Windows 10 installed over Windows 7.

Thanks in Advance...

A:Windows Media Player, Burned CD's only give me "track 1, track 2, etc.

You don't say where the album you are trying to burn came from. If it's one you previously ripped from a commercially published CD, does Windows Media list the track names? Or does it say 'unknown album' and just have track numbers? For an 'unknown album' it may help if you first right-click on the unknown album and select 'Find album info'.

Hi :)

So I originally had Windows Media Player 10 installed, and then I upgraded to Media Player 11 for a few months. After a while, I decided I didn't like it, so I rolled back to Media Player 10, but all my play count data has been reverted to back before I installed Media Player 11.

I would like to know if there was a way I could restore that play count data if at all possible. It's not a big problem, I know, but it's a problem nonetheless and I would like it fixed.

Thanks in advance :)

Ok, problem is no voice track heard when playing a dvd through the windows media player or the realplayer. Voice is heard on dvd through windows classic media player or VLC player. Problem is only with dvd play, all internal file plays are fine. Problem does not occur if I use drivers from Creative labs, but those drivers cause static and I cannot use them, so I use KX drivers that are supposed to be good choice for audigy 2 sound card. I use Community codec pack. Different codecs and sound card driver settings have been tried to no avail. Although problem is not critical, it is vexing me, so I keep trying to solve it.

I have a music mix "album" on my PC that I wanted to burn to a cd-r. I have done with countless times with absolutely no problem. But today when I burned my mix to a disc, the information on the burned disc such as track name and name of cd are not showing up. Just a generic "Unknown Album" and "track 1..." and so on. I tried to burn to disc three times and all three times I got the same result. I have never had this happen before.

I know there was a windows 10 update that was loaded on to pc earlier in the week. I'm wondering if there is some bug in the update that might be causing this problem.

Any suggestions appreciated.

A:Windows Media Player not copying track info

Nevermind. I just typed all the info in and then ripped CD with the idea I would try the newly ripped mix. But instead when I inserted the cd I just ripped from back into pc all the info was there. Still annoying that I had to do that but at least I can now burn a cd with all the info.

Hey guys,

I got this really strange error, or I guess it's actually a bug. It happens in Windows Media Player 12 (my default player). When I select some audio files (no difference between extensions) and press play, WMP (12) doesn't play the first file. Instead, it plays the last file of my selection/selected tracks. He puts this last track on top of my original selection, so after this track he plays the original (first) track.

Besides that being really annoying (can you imagine playing you're favourite cd of the most awesome band in the world, which happens to be a live recording, and than have it start with the end of their perfomance?! ), it has this even more annoying feature: it doesn't happen all the time. Most of the times, like 75% or so. That makes it really hard to figure out, at least I can't think of what 'triggers' the bug.

When my laptop just started, the bug seems to happen more frequently. But to be clear; it doesn't always happen.

I've got a screenshot here to clarify it.

PS: Don't mind the crazy language in the picture , it's Dutch.

I couldn't find any information on this bug anywhere so I decided to post it here.
All help and tips are greatly appreciated!

Hi everyone. I have a CD that I sometimes listen to while playing the computer. Anyway, you know how Windows Media Player will download the track list and everything from the Internet? Well, it's downloading the right track list but the names of the tracks are not in the right order. They're all mixed up and so it's hard to tell what song I am trying to play. For example, I'll click a song to play it because I recognize the song name and it ends up playing a different song on the CD. The CD is actually a 2 CD pack called "Songs 4 Worship: Shout to the Lord The Greatest Praise & Worship Songs of All Time". I don't know if this is a problem unique to these 2 CDs or what but I have the original CDs and Windows Media Player has had this problem with these CDs ever since I first used the CDs in my computer. What can I do to fix this? I'd really appreciate any advice because apparently Windows Media Player is having an error during the download of the track list. Any advice you can provide will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

The Windows media Player play count function does not record new plays...the play count column is activated. Sometimes the number will move up but if I change views and return, or if I log off , the new number will not change. The old numbers are still there .

The same problem with song star ratings...I can change them but they are not saved. The column is activated but not allowing changes.

I can add new title to the library, but other changes are not saved.

Since the very beginning the "now playing view and or the little information bar at the bottom always lists the artists as "unknown , although all other inforamtion, CD/song title etc, will display.

Any idea as to what happened to make it change and how I can get it to work right again?

After working on my problem of Media Player freezing on ejecting disks, my little brain came up with an idea !. After I Rip music from CD,s that I have purchased & want too make a copy for someone , it appears to be freezing on the type/make of disks that I have been using to burn copies. This morning I loaded a recent CD which I bought & it played as normal & when I came to eject it ! Bingo ! CD ejected on command ? but this time Media Player did,nt freeze. Question now is ? What are the proper disks to use for burning on my Advent 5302 Laptop. I had been up to PC World too ask them about my problem. They could not understand why I was having this problem & told me that they only use the one make " Verbatim " in shop { as to say }. Well I did buy some & up to now have had the same problem with them as I had with other makes of CD. So what am I away to do now ?. Have one more go at burning on the disks that I purchased from them. If it does,nt work ? we have a problem. PS: Forgot to say? When I re-load the burned disk to play, it is picked up & plays ? but you guest it ? It causes Media Player to freeze when ejected. By the way ? I,m one of those Silver Surfers, as they say. Ali

Hello everyone. Every time I open Media Player, it changes the track information of most of my music. It is driving me crazy. I have unticked all the boxes in options about retrieving information from the internet and it has made no difference. Any ideas are very welcome. Thanks.

Does anybody know how to get the XBOX One Media player app to play mp3 files by the ID3 Tag track number, instead of alphabetically by file name? Or if its even possible to access any settings for that App? The only settings menu I can find on the XBOX is its settings menu. I have no idea how, or if you can, access settings individually for an App. I only just bought the XBOX yesterday so I am a complete noob with this piece of gear. I haven't owned a game console in many many years. I don't own a smart phone either, not sure that would help, but I'll mention it anyway. It's a bit of a pain to play and album and have the tracks played out of order.

Where is the music coming from, is it local on the xbox (or a USB) or are you streaming it from your PC

I only have the 360, but have found if you are streaming from PC you get alphabetic listing by track

If its local have you tried the Groove app, I know on the 360 it wont play local, but the One runs Win 10 so it might do

You are presumably using ffdshow codecs. You need to uncheck OSD in ffdshow
video decoder configuration (either from start/programs/ffdshow, or if when
you play a video using ffdshow, the ffdshow icon appears in the systray,
doubleclick on that).

Hello all, I tried to reply to the thread with a similar title to provide a correct answer. So I am reintroducing the topic and providing an answer that seems to work.

Problem: I want to use media player with very minimal frame. Many answers are "play full screen". But I know that media can be played in windows media without any skin, very minimal framing and floating media controls over the video that auto hide when you move away.

Answer:

Press Ctrl-2. This puts you in a skin mode. There should be menu items at the top: File, View, Play, Tools, Help
Choose View->Skin Chooser
You are now in the full media player experience. Do not choose a skin. Click the 3 square & arrow thing at the bottom "Switch to now playing"
Viola! No skin, minimal borders and floating media controls.

I have no idea why this is not a simple option. I think what I am choosing is the most basic skin, maybe not even intended for use. But this is my favorite player, super simple.

I'm at my wits end.

I put together a capable gaming pc about a month ago with a bunch of new components and some cannibalized older components.

I installed all of the drivers from the motherboard cd. I have a radeon x1300 vid card. I'm running windows xp home ed. I've installed about every codec and plugin under the sun. I've troubleshot my load with regard to Windows itself.

I cannot play Windows Media Audio/Video files for the life of me.

I do get audio, but the video is all hyper-colored like looking at scrambled porn.

It doesn't matter if I download the video or watch it in a browser (any browser). It doesn't matter if I open up the DLed video in real player, Windows Media player or Generic DIVX player #458973: it still comes out all scrambled and in crazy moon-man rainbow colors.

I have no problem playing any other type of windows media player file. Quicktime works fine as well.

Please help.

Well standard Window's media files should play without the need for any additional codecs.

I am trying to download an audiobook from my local library. I generally use Overdrive Media Console to do this. When I try to download the book I get an error message letting me know that my Windows Media Player needs a Security Upgrade in order to play the DRM files. It tells me to click on TOOLS in the Overdrive toolbar and then Windows Media Player Security Upgrade. When I do this, a dialog box appears and tells me to make sure I am connected to the internet (I am) and click OK. When I click OK - nothing happens. When I read the Windows Help file - it indicates that when I click OK in the dialog box in Overdrive, it is supposed to open WMP and another dialog box. It never does.
The Help file gives me a web site to go to where I can upgrade manually - this appears to be a Microsoft website. The Upgrade button here is grayed out.
I made sure I was using IE as the browser.
I opened WMP manually to see if there was anything I could upgrade manually there.
I can't even determine what version of WMP I have since the Properties button is grayed out.
I just bought this computer yesterday... it's running windows 8

If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it! I very much miss my audiobooks and I am literally banging my head against the wall trying to figure this out!!!

Hi guys,
Using my desktop pc (Windows XP Professional), I copied songs from my cds to the computer thru Windows Media Player and then moved all the songs to my portable hard drive.
I connected my hard drive to my laptop (Vista Home Premium) and tried to play the files thru Windows Media Player. Unfortunately, WMP 11 did not play the file but opened a Mozilla Firefox window leading to a site that would ask me to download license.
Upon clicking the 'Download License' button, I encountered the error that said I had to install Windows Media Services plug-ins.
I searched for this plug-in and found out that it was associated with WMP 9 and not WMP 11 so I thought installation might cause conflicts or might create more errors. I'm not so good at computer and I don't even know which to install when WMP website gave me too many options and downloadables.
These make me so frustrated and I don't even know if I could still copy my songs from my hard drive to my laptop and play them.

This has come about since I've put about 20GB of music onto my laptop (I still have around 47GB of 70GB free). However, when Windows Media Player is not open the system still runs slowly and I have no luck running flash videos.

The only possible solution I can think of is deleting the music but I'm a bit hesitatant to do so because it took me ages to put it on!

Anyway, thanks very much for any help you can give me!

ok (as you my know by know i rarther hate windows media player)

well basicly i have loads of .mp3 files in my Docs and my music folders, there not all music files, when windows media sees them it ads them to libary, Annoyingly, i manages to stop it downloading extra info like album art (cos its soo stupid, it gets it wrong like 95% of the time lol) but it keeps adding every thing back to the libary even if i delete them from it, its soo annoying any!! surgestions please?

A:Solved: Stop Windows Media Player Automaticly ading media files to libary

In WMP go to Tools > Options and uncheck all the boxes in the Player tab, Privacy tab and Library tab.

In the Library tab click on Monitor Folders and set the top part to "My personal folders", then click on Advanced Options.

Set all the folders to "Ignore". Unfortunately you can't set the Rip folder to "Ignore" so for that go to the Rip music tab, where it says "Rip music to this location" click on Change and create an empty folder somewhere. Then just never add any music files to that folder.

Then delete everything out of the WMP library and it should remain empty.

Well, I'm not sure what to do here. Up until a few days ago I was sharing my media with all computers on my network on my wireless router.

Now when I log into windows and open WMP 11 it says that I am no longer sharing media, would you like to turn on sharing? So I say yes and confirm to share my media to all devices on my network, mainly my PS3.

I uninstalled it and reinstalled it (well it actually just reverted back). I also checked to make sure that Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service is set to automatic in Admin tools. And also checked windows firewall that it allows the service.

So I am at a loss here, I don't know how to get my media sharing capabilites back. I know its not my PS3, as I am sharing media from my laptop right now. Any suggestions?

Sonnyboy quote:
PS3 and Vista Sharing Sorted
Found it. Disabled IPSEC Services and rebooted my router and hey presto media sharing in vista with PS3. Although I had disabled this before and restarted my computer I had not rebooted the router (ie turned it off and on again). This was the important thing on my set up and I missed it.

Funny thing is IPSEC Services do not have to be disabled in XP.

Hope this helps someone.

This actually worked for my Windows XP, I am now able to share, but is this a safe thing to have turned off?

So for some background I basically stream music, pictures and video content from my computer to an Xbox 360 in the lounge room for my family to enjoy. This has worked for quite a long time with Windows 7.

I installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview today and got settled in with it and indexed my libraries with Windows Media player so this could resume. But to my dismay this doesn't seem to work in Windows 8.

I have each folder and hard drive shared on windows for network use, I have a little experience from LANs in this area. I have enabled all streaming options in WMP that I know of and the entirety of my library has been fully indexed. This is WMP 12 and everything I possibly know of is up to date.

I haven't got the Homegroup feature active as I never had to use this before.

The only other thing I have noticed that has changed is this. A little green icon that in windows 7 would appear on top of the xboxs, I'm assuming this means something.

On the Xbox end it used to display the Libraries such as 'Recorded TV', 'Music', 'TV Shows', 'Movies' and other things but now when I try to access video content it gives me a folder called 'Videos' which contains nothing.

Does anybody know of any solutions?

After more messing around it seems media servers can see jpgs but nothing else. I'm just going to reinstall W7 for now.

Every since January 4th of this year, I have been trying to fix a very annoying issue with windows media player.
How It Started
Back in January my dad's computer constantly kept freezing over and over due to him having way to many podcast on his computer. I'm the only one who knew how to fix it from crashing and so I tried to delete some of the memory off the computer, however when
the memory was low I noticed that a few programs (including media player) were not functioning correctly. I was able to fix them but then I noticed that media player's entire library was missing, which made me think if I restarted the computer, it would fix
it. Sadly it didn't but I was able to find tutorials on how to restore the library back to MP, but the thing is before I attempted that, I went into media player with administrator on in hopes it would make a change. Of course it didn't but now there's a issue
that I face and I keep running into dead ends. Every single time I try to turn on media sharing in the WMP library, when I check both options and then click ok it doesn't do anything. No matter how many times I try to press it, nothing happens and also what
I find strange is that the ok button has a administrator prompt shield on it now. Kind of like it's trying to ask for permission but fails before it can do that.
The solutions I have tried
I have tried dozens of solutions and yet none of them fix the issue. I tried using regedit.exe and tried fixing it's registry but that di... Read more

Hello all,

I have my main media desktop in the living room setup to share the meda on the "E:" drive. On my Windows 7 laptop using WMP12 i am able to find the shared media library and access for playback. However I am having a difficult time trying to do the same on my other desktop in my room running XP WMP11. I cant seem to find out how to stream the media files from the living room desktop via the WMP11? is this even possible, or is there a software i could use to do this if WMP11 does not support it? i tried XBMC but i keep receiving playback error. I wish there was a WMP12 for XP to make things easier but unfortunately there isnt

please help..

thank you@

Looking through my Add / Remove Programs list I noticed that I have the following two programs installed ie,Windows Media Player 11 & Windows Media Format 11 Runtime. I realise that I need WMP on my PC but both of these programs are the same in size ie 11.16MB.

My questions are " Do I need the both of them or are they just the same?".

I am running Vista and am having a problem with Windows Media Player 11.

When I try to close Media player by clicking on the X on the top right hand corner or selecting exit, I get the following message in a popup box.

Would you like to hide the player instead of closing it? Yes/No

The answer is yes, but it would just have just closed for me in the past. Is there some option somewhere where I can turn this question off?

I have noticed that if Media Player is open but no music has been selected to play and I close the program, Media Player will close correctly without the question being asked.

Anybody have any idea?
