Recording streaming music - microphone picks up sounds in room

Q: Recording streaming music - microphone picks up sounds in room

Hi there!

I am trying to record internet radio as it is streaming online (Itunes radio). I am using recording software: Audacity on my laptop, which is a Lenovo U450 ideapad. However each time I record, I am picking up the sound of the laptop microphone as well, i.e. I canít just record the sound of the streaming music; I record all the other sounds in the room as well! The same thing happens with the 'Sound Recorder' software on the laptop. I have tried changing some settings on audacity ie trying to use different microphone inputs. It gives me the option to use:

MME Microsoft Sound Mapper Ė Input
MME Realtek High Definition
Windows Direct Sound Primary Capture Driver
Windows Direct Sound microphone (Realtek High Definition)

However all these currently pick up the laptop microphone ie my speaking as well as the music. I tried using an older version of Audacity but that didnít work. Do you have any ideas around it please? Maybe you can you tell me how to disable the main laptop microphone so it just picks up whatís playing? I used to be able to do this perfectly on my pc. Thank you very much for trying!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I'm sorry, but the recording of streaming music, even music from a radio, is illegal. We won't be able to help you with that.

http://www.sunny106fm.com/ It is a great station, I think, and I would like very much to be able to download and then burn the music they play to a CD. I will be most willing to accept free software to do this with if anyone knows of one. Otherwise, I will gladly look at any and all suggestions you make. And TIA.
I have never attempted to do this, don't know if it can be done and I know nothing about any part of this. Oh yes, I listen to the station when I am surfing the net, reading the forums; etc.

Youtube uses the Flash player and it has known to cause sound problems. Sometimes reinstalling the flash player will help.

Playing an audio file that is on the PC or a commercial audio CD does not use flash players or similar.

Hey guys,

I have an HP xw4400 Workstation. Was given to me as a gift. I reloaded the OS and added some of my own hardware, because I prefer to build my computers and not buy them. Anyway, everything has always worked fine until about two months ago when my sound got twisted. Unfortunately my Mic broke (right after that, stupid dog..) and I never got to fully experiment with the situation. I've fixed my headset and my Mic and I did some tests, but I can't find a solution.

I'm running Windows XP Service Pack 2.

Here is the problem;

When using a microphone on skype or ventrilo or something it works fine. it works fine in a sense that they can in fact hear my voice over the problem. However, if I turn on music or play a game or my computer makes any sounds at all, everyone else can hear it.

Basically this means that all of the sounds my computer makes are being sent to the same place my microphone output is being sent to.

Like my last support request, here is a video of the problem (enable sound).
Due to the resolution of the video I placed it on an embed code on an html page.

SWF File Size: 6.97 MB

Hi, recently my skype has started to pick all sounds from my pc eg my music, games, youtube vids and movies.

I have been through all the settings i have stereo mix turned off and my mic is the only one one, I have unplugged my mic as well too see if it was audio leak from my head phones, but it was picking up sound still form the pc, it seem like the speaker part of my audio is tied to my mic.

i have uninstalled and reinstalled my audio drivers, made sure there all up to date I made sure Skype and windows 7 was up to date as well

Bellow are some images of how things are setup if any other pictures are needed just ask.
I spent all day trying to get it to stop picking up my sound, I thought of reinstalling windows at one point

Any help would be great thanks

Iím trying to do a simple vocal dub over an audio using Audacity. It doesnít need to be a brilliant quality, just so as I can hear the vocal. The volume is so minimal.

Iíve tried maximizing the input volume and minimizing the output, nothing changes. Iíve checked out the control panel and the default device is Conexant AMC Audio for both playback and recording. Thereís no balance control to the microphone in the recording control of the control panel, but Iíve got it at its highest and itís selected and nothing is muted.

How do I go about being able to input into the microphone and the damn laptop playing it back with the audio?

A:How do I dub and the Microphone Picks it Up?

Audacity supports multitrack recording, put your music on one track and open a blank track set for recording. This will allow you to record through your mic while it plays the music at the same time. To avoid feedback you'll have to use headphones.

Now go into your audio controls (I'm assuming you have Windows) and select options>properties and in the list of playback devices place a check next to microphone. You can now adjust the playback volume of your microphone, the volume that you hear in your headphones, via a volume slider in the main panel.

Now on to setting it up for recording. Go to audio controls>options>properties>recording and make sure the check box next to microphone is checked and press ok. This should switch your audio controls to show the recording device volume sliders. Select the check box under microphone and adjust the slider as needed to get a good signal level in Audacity. You can also boost the recording gain control on the track in audacity if need be.

If you still find your recording volume is poor then I suggest buying a smaller audio mixer and using its line-out to the computers line-in for recording.

I'm running Windows x64 Ultimate, and my sound is going through RealTek on board sound from an EVGA x58 motherboard.

I've just got a standard headset with a pair of headphone jacks, not USB or anything. When I use the microphone, it will pick up audio that my headset is playing. I don't mean that it hears it, I mean it actually broadcasts the outbound audio stream through the microphone. Stereomix isn't enabled, and I'm really not sure what's causing it.

I updated to the latest Realtek audio driver I could find (R2.66, 10/18/2011), and that actually solved the problem... until I rebooted. After the reboot, it's back to doing the same thing. The driver is showing the correct version, so it doesn't seem to have reverted to an old driver or something. All the settings appear to be the same in the playback and recording tabs, it just went back to picking up audio output through the mic.

Any help you folks could offer would be appreciated. This has me stumped.

Oh, and I actually also tried one of those USB sound interfaces (that I normally used for a laptop), and the problem would occur even through that despite it obviously using different drivers and hardware. So there must be a setting or something I'm missing, but I'll be damned if I can find it.

A:Microphone Picks Up System Output

I've resolved the issue. I got to thinking while I was at work, Stereomix isn't enabled, but Stereomix does handle that kind of output.

So if I couldn't get it to not happen by disabling it, how about enabling it but turning the volume to zero? That did the trick. Now it's properly telling my sound card to include the audio, but with no volume. I'm sure it might be using extra system resources to do it that way or something, but it's good enough for me.

Just posting the resolution in case someone else has the same problem.

I'm on an Alienware m14x with Windows 7, and my internal mic hasn't worked for some time. I assumed it was just broken until earlier I noticed others having the same problem. It picks up internal noise from the laptop like the keys and when I click my wireless mouse that picks up as well. I've tried disabling all other mics (which pick up no sound) and all the formats in the advanced tab, but nothing works. It seems to be a fairly common problem, anyone know what to do? Here's a picture with the driver info.

I noticed in the properties there was no "audio boost". There were also other mics to select from, but this is the only one that picks up sound. I'm currently using my phone through the external port as a substitute with the microphone app, but it's inconvenient.

A:Internal microphone only picks up background noise...

The first thing I see is you do not have the correct sound driver. You only have the generic, basic function, Windows installed High Definition Audio Device. The first step is to install the correct sound driver.

There are two different M14x models listed on the Dell site, a M14x (early 2011) and M14x R2 (early 2012). Which model do you have? The 14x downloads show Realtek for the sound. The 14x R2 shows Creative Labs.

Suggest you access the Dell downloads for your model and download the available sound driver, and then see if the mic works.

I got a new headset yesterday, and it works great for the most part. However, when NVIDIA ShadowPlay is running, when I'm in a Skype call, or when I'm connected to a TeamSpeak 3 server, whatever my microphone picks up (i.e. my voice) is played through the headset's speakers.

It's really annoying to deal with and makes it harder to speak smoothly. I've made sure that "listen to this device" is unchecked in the Recording Devices section of the Sound menu.

Any help? The headset is a Logitech H540, but it uses default Windows drivers for USB headsets.

I have tried different media players, (window, realplayer, itunes, limewire), I have tried different types of files (mp3, wave). I have tried down loaded songs, & songs copied from my store bought cd's. I have logitech 7 speaker system & when I do a sound check, every speaker works & all volume controls are up & not on mute. Java is up to date 5.0 update10.

I have windows defender & live care on my system that is up to date.

When I play my music on my computer the music starts out okay, but then slows down for a second & then picks up again. CPU will go from ,4,8, and then to 12, 17. 40, and then back down again.

I'm a person that enjoys all types of music and I have tried everything that I could think, but I want to hear my music the way it should sound & not drag, slow down, sorta like an 8-track use to drag in the 70's. (oops showing my age)

My other problem is when I go onto myspace I cannot hear my music or anyone else's on their myspaces, but other sites with sound is okay.

Please, can anyone help? I miss & need my music before my computer gets too old.

Hello Tech Support guy. Before I explain my request for advise let me tell you the type of computer I have. Some here have previously assisted me with other issues but this one has me very frustrated. Here is my system:

.........Hewlett-Packard co.

Rating: 3.7
Process:AMD athlon (tm) 170 u Processor 200 gh2 gb usable
Installed Memory ram 800 gb (7.75)
system type 64 bit

It seems that my computer has developed a rather annoying humming loud enough to sound like there is a running washing machine in next room. My son installed a new ram bit recently which now supposedly is higher than it was when I was here the last time. It is now at 8OO GB (7.75). But if you ask me what that means, I will tell you I have no clue.

Anyway, suddenly my computer has now developed this loud humming sound. Sometimes I have gotten rid of the sound by turning off my computer after a few minutes. The humming stops and my computer works without noise. But lately I have had difficulty stopping the sound and it really is annoying, despite that the sound does not affect my surfing or anything else I am doing.

I wondered and decided to ask you guys if there has been others with the same problem, and what if anything can I do about it to fix this problem.

I am instructed to copy and paste the above SysInfo utility with my question herewith. I clicked and downloaded the utility but for the life of me cannot find it to paste it here. I apologize for that and hope that you understand how ... Read more

My network settings :

I guess I posted this query here as i wasn't sure if it was an xp setup issue, gmail chat issue or what. (my op system is xp)
Basically, I want to know if it's possible, whilst having a video chat in gmail, for my friend to listen to the music playing on my media player (media monkey) at the same quality as I can hear it ?
Is it a case of tinkering with audio channel setup ? ( i tried just pulling the headphone bit out to make it like a speaker phone but the quality was crap her end ). This seems really obvious and straightfwd but i cant find a quickfix answer online. Thanks !

I want to record a radio program that runs for three hours nightly, from midnight to 3:00A.M. on the internet. The program is the classics from the "Golden Age of Radio" that I hope to copy for a senior in the hospital.

The plan is to record it as a low resolution MP3 (32 or 64 bit), burn it to a cd that would be played on a discman.

I know I have to purchase a recording program such as Total Recorder or Super MP3 Recorder.

I have tried the trial version of TR that allows only 40 seconds. It is hard to determine how large the file size of the would be. The instructions seem to be slanted more to song recording length, not three hours.

Before I buy I would like any some advice. Has anyone done this? Are there any recomendations?

Hello there! I've been looking all over the net and asked my friends and tried out various things, but nothing seems to work and I'm quite clueless as to what to do now to solve this problem.

Hey guys, just thought I'd share this with ya!

I found a great program called MP3myMP3 (CNET Review here: MP3 My MP3 Recorder - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com) that records sounds that your PC makes.
In other words, the sound that YOU hear from it.
E.G. If you wanted to record an error sound that Windows Makes (I know that they're in C: Somewhere this is just an example) you'd just press record and then play the sound and press stop. Simple.

Just thought I'd share as it came in handy for me.

Hi - I have a RealTek HD sound card in my E-Machines desktop system (new). I'm trying to record streaming audio - basically I want to simply record what I'm hearing through my speakers. But when I try to choose that input, it doesn't seem to be there. There is no "wave" or "stereo mix" input choice. Any of the available choices I've tried and they don't record the live audio that's playing on my system. Is there a plug-in or something that will allow me to do this? I just want to record the same stuff that I'm hearing. Help! Thanks -

Set the default recording device to Stereo Mix if you have it.

Right click on the Microsoft Speaker icon in the task bar, select recording devices.
Right click anywhere in the window that opens and enable both "Show Disconnected" and "Show Disabled Devices" do you see "Stereo Mix" as an option? If so, select it and click the "Set Default" button.

There may be a Record Level luring under one of the tabs.

I have been trying unsuccessfully ALL DAY to download (and run!) ANY free or shareware streaming audio recording software. I have tried JING, Streaming Audio Recorder (by apowersoft), and SoundTap by NCH. I'm pretty good with computers but this has me totally stumped (and also stumped Jing's Tech Support).

I download the .exe file and install the software without incident, BUT, hen I click on it to run it, the cursor becomes an hourglass for a few seconds and then goes back to the standard arrow. NOTHING I DO GETS ANY OF THESE APPS TO RUN! For sure this is one for the books. I'm sure it must be something simple, but Idk WTF that is. PLEASE HELP!!!!! I'm absolutely desperate.

I have a Realtek HD Audio sound card, and I'm trying to record a snippet of sound from a streaming source, but it never records on my audio program. I think what it is is this; when I go into my Volume properties to change my settings, although it gives me the options of setting the controls for wave output, there's none for wave input (just CD, mic volume, front mic, and line). Help! Thanks - Joe

I would like to record a variety of streaming Adobe Flash videos which I access via IE7.

I've done a search on Google, and there appears to be a bunch of software out there to do this, some of it free.

Can anyone recommend a good choice - and if free, that would be even better.

I have a peculiar problem, I cannot record any sound at all. Simply put, the microphone doesn't work. It used to work on Vista until I downgraded my computer to XP. After I installed the driver for my sound card, which is a Realtek High Definition Audio I could only listen to music, which was okay. But now I need the microphone for Grade Seven. Anyways, I looked around and Microsoft proved useless (as always). When I tried to look at the microphone volume stuff, the Line Volume, Mic Volume, and Stereo mix were greyed out. And when I looked in the Control Panel, the Voice recording advanced options were also gone. Please help.

A:No recording on microphone.

If it's greyed out, it means it's not installed (the software that is)
Locate your sound card drivers from your manufactures support page (if your system has xp driver support)

Install the sound card drivers (software)

When I Skype(not only skype), the other person ears sometimes my system sound(music etc.). When I plugin my headset, my pc recognize that I plugged in a mic. I don't use my headphone often and the last time it worked fine.

What I tried already:

I installed the realtek drivers multiple times.

I bought a usb soundcard. Microphone is not working!

I scanned my pc for malware with: Combofix, Malwarebytes, hijackthis, AdwCleaner, Junkware Removal Tool and 360 total security.

I ran windows 10 in a vm virtualbox and tried to skype(Hahahaha )

My microphone isn't recording anything. To be very specific:

- The microphone works on another computer, so it isn't the microphone.
- My computer has two microphone jacks, but neither do it, so it isn't the jack.
- I checked all my advanced audio volume settings, including those related to the microphone recording and playback, and all of them are high, so it isn't the volume settings.
- I tried recording my voice in two different programs, and neither work, so it isn't the programs.
- My low-quality USB microphone works, so once again it seems the problem has to do with the microphone jacks, or something to do with whatever the jacks are connected to, because only my high-quality microphone jack microphone (not USB), the one I want to use, doesn't work on this computer.

So why isn't my microphone working in the microphone jacks on this computer?

Thank you,

A:My microphone isn't recording anything.

open your volume control, options > properties, check recording. make sure microphone is checked, Mic is not Muted in the Volume properties. Also, check 'mic boost'.
