XAMPP - #2002 - The server is not responding (or the local MySQL server's socket is n

Q: XAMPP - #2002 - The server is not responding (or the local MySQL server's socket is n

Hi there,

I've worked for a long time with xampp on Windows and never had this problem.

I try to access PHPmyAdmin and this error message appears:
#2002 - The server is not responding (or the local MySQL server's socket is not correctly configured)

Preferred Solution: XAMPP - #2002 - The server is not responding (or the local MySQL server's socket is n

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,Two weeks ago, my real dev server wireless shorted out, hard drive bricked, then the temporary replacement hard drive I set up tanked under a monster rootkit! I am now working on a (loaner) Gateway laptop, Windows 7 (legit OEM) with XAMPP 1.7.1 dev server. LAN direct to modem (router removed.) Netbeans IDE and Avast! for AV. Here's what's wrong:My Apache error and access logs indicate an attack is still hitting. I first noticed a problem this morning - multiple IPs running the same attempt. Set this server up four days ago and thought I had the firewall configured sufficiently to deny external requests for Apache, clearly not. In response this morning, I ensured Windows was up to date, ran Defender (clean result), installed and ran Avast! which found 3 copies of the same virus (32bit). Changed Apache's ports to 8080 and Apache webroot password and authentication. MySQL has root pw set, no anonymous. It's was clear the rest of the day, until another attempt popped up in Apache's logs a bit ag from one of the attacking IPs (all IPs originate in / around Beijing, China on watchdog sites with other people reporting hack attempts as well.)Farfetched or not, I'm paranoid that a virus or backdoor has squeezed in somehow. Would anyone mind looking over my logs, netstat, just to make double super impossible sure I'm not sitting on a landmine... I'm just reinstalling my test server here, and I've hit a minor snag. I've installed the latest apache with PHP5 and MySQL5. I'm trying to install phpMyAdmin now, but it's having none of it.

The error I'm getting from phpmyadmin is

Cannot load mysqli extension. Please check your PHP configuration. - DocumentationClick to expand...

Obviously I've neglected something or screwed up somehow, but I'm at a loss as to where. Could anybody give me some manner of checklist for this issue, or simply the answer if it's obvious to you, because clearly, it's not so obvious to me

Edit: Oh god!. now it won't even load phpinfo. There's no error message, and I know php is working because phpmyadmin reports the error.

This is just nuts.

Hi there. My first post.

I installed MySQL 5 on Vista 32-bit just now - it installed fine. The problem is that when I go to open the Server Instance Config Wizard the box is tiny and shows nothing that I can use to discern what is inside.

I tried positioning the cursor onto the side in a vain attempt to resize it - no success. Is there a way I can modify the settings so that I can actually see it?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I'm not sure if I posted in the wrong forum.

A:MySQL 5.0 Server Instance Config Wizard - cannot see anything

Hey there, welcome to TSG

I don't know if this is exactly the right forum or not; we don't get a slew of MySQL questions in Business Apps. If you feel like it isn't getting the attention it deserves, you can click on the yield icon in the first post's title bar and request it be moved somewhere more appropriate. The mods don't like it so much when we double-post, so they'll be happy to move it for you (and even pick the best forum).

Anyway. This seems similar to another MySQL/Vista thread I saw within the last month. Or maybe it only seems similar because there was another MySQL/Vista thread within the last month.

How have you verified the installation was successful? Can you get a version through command line? Can you start and stop the service? I don't know if Vista supports the same windowing hotkeys as XP, but have you tried typing Alt + Space to bring up the window's system menu in case it can be maximized, or typing F11 to enter Full Screen mode (not sure if that even exists on Vista)?

I know these are lame answers. I can't offer much help because I almost always configure MySQL through the command line.

I am using a virtual IP to provide access to a mysql cluster. However since I don't have unlimited hardware I am unable to put the mysql servers as the sole application on each system. I end up with both an instance of apache and mysql on each system. I've configured the network with LVS and ldirector for load balancing. I've assigned a virtual IP to the system, say, I make that the primary IP to eth0 on the load balancer and as a loopback interface on the two machines (sql1 and sql2) running the mysql servers.

If I make a request from any server that is not sql1 or sql2, everything works fine, but when I am making a request from either of those machines it will not send to the load balancer, instead it picks up the loopback and just uses the local server.

Does anyone have any ideas for how to over come this? I'm kind of new to VIP's and anything more advanced than a static/dynamic ip address. I believe my setup is using direct routing.

I have a question about Mysql server 2008 R2

What is my server name if I select to install with "Named Instance" not "Default Instance"

with Mixed mode password

I don't know this because I used to install with Named Instance : neneka and mixed mode password 12345

but I can't login because I don't know what my server name is

user id should be : neneka right ? and maybe password is 12345

A:Question about installing Mysql server 2008 R2

When using named instances, the server name is of the form [ComputerName]\[InstanceName]
When using the default instance, it's only [ComputerName]

You can alternatively replace the computer name with the IP or "localhost" if it's on the very same box. And on the login dialog, if you open the server name combobox, the option "browse for more" can be used to help you locate the servers in the network too.
Also verify if the server service is running. For named instances to connect over a network, you also need the SQL Browser service running (not needed for the default instance).

BTW, you should rename the post to SQL Server, as it has nothing to do with MySql.

Apache and MySQL are really simple and you wont need much CPU. My opinion is you wont need more than a simple workstation.
Of course I prefer a real server. They are more reliable.
Compaq Proliant DL.. 320? 360? They are pretty cheap and you wont need more for a webserver with a MySQL database for 15 users.

I've installed MySQL onto Windows Vista home with no problems. However, when I go to configure an instance using the wizard, I get this odd error I've never seen before: "This application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application even log for more detail."

The event viewer shows the following:

Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.0\bin\MySQLInstanceConfig.exe".Error in manifest or policy file "C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.0\bin\MySQLInstanceConfig.exe" on line 6. The value "asAdministrator" of attribute "level" in element "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1^requestedPrivileges" is invalid.

I've tried running the file as administrator (right click for that option) and that was of no use either.

I have no darn clue what is going on at this point and searching across the internet has not produced any better luck either. Please help!

I have PHP installed running with apache, I did it manually which I prefer because I can then create virtual hosts.

I am having a very hard time getting MySQL to work.
All I want to do is have a MySQL database for each of these Virtual Hosts.
It doesnt matter If I use PHPmyAdmin or anything, I still cant get that to work

Ive read manuals and things and I cant figure out what Im doing wrong.

My virtual hosts are setup in system32/drivers/etc/hosts

Code: localhost jream lostseed velocitytools test
To set those up I have this in my httpd.conf file for each one:

#For jream:
NameVirtualHost jream

<VirtualHost jream>
DocumentRoot d:\jream
ServerName jream

<Directory "d:\jream">
Options all
AllowOverride all
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
is there an easier way to do this? I tried using WAMP with aliases but
it does not show the css or image files when running because everything
is linked /css/ and /images/ -- if you click a link in the aliased directory
it would go http://css/, its stupid

please help Im going nuts

A:Apache HTTP Server Works w/PHP, how to work MySQL?

You should really use an IP address or Wildcard for the NameVirtualHost

You need to setup a VirtualHost Entry for each website and the Directory Directive needs to be inside the VirtualHost Directive.

Try not to start multiple threads with the same problem. Try and keep it all in one thread.

Hi there,

On Linux, we can easily enable remote access to MySQL server, but on Windows, I got no success so far ( a client tried to connect to MySQL on the server)

Here's the steps to do that (on the server computer):

1. Open a DOS command prompt on the server.
2. Run the following command from the mysql\bin directory:
mysql -u root --password=
3. A mysql> prompt should be displayed.
4. To create a remote user account with root privileges, run the following commands:

'USERNAME' is the username to be created.
'IP' is the public IP address of the remote connection.
'PASSWORD' is the password to be assigned for this username.
(IP can be replaced with % to allow this user to logon from any host or IP)

mysql> exit;

So it is. But I couldn't connect to that MySQL from another computer, both are Windows XP.

If you have any experience, I'd like to receive your help.

Thanks in advance.

Hey all,

I have two problems with two employees. They both are connecting by vpn with the ATT Global network client from their homes. These Both employees are using outlook 2000. They are both behind personal routers. They can both browse the Internet and intranet web pages with no problems.

One of the employees can connect with no problem but after ten minutes only her outlook stops responding.

The other, her exchange server will no respond. She is able to ping it successfully. Created several new profiles have no effect or even simply trying a check name.

Any help on these two problems?

A:Outlook problems: exchange server not responding and not responding after 10 minutes

1) Are they on company or personal machines? If personal could this be a personal firewall issue?

2) Are they connecting wirelessly? Have they try connecting wired and see if it makes a difference.

3) I haven't used Outlook 2K in a long time, but I remember there being a setting about how to behave when using a slow connection. Something like tools, send receive, send receive settings. I think one of the options was to basically do nothing. You might poke around in those settings and see what you find.

I've written a socket server in C++ running as a service on NT4 that serves one or more wireless devices on my network. Since its inception, I've wanted a way to watch the traffic going back and forth on the socket between the server and the client and the other night as I was trying to go to sleep, the answer came to me. I developed a simple visual basic program containing a list box and upon program startup I send a message to the socket server containing the hwnd of the list box. Then the service uses the SendMessage API to insert rows into the list box through the provided handle. All of this works beautifully in the ide/debugger but when I run it in a production/release environment, the messages don't get put into the list. I suspect it has something to do with permissions - the service is by nature a system level program while the vb application is running as the logged on user but the service is using the same user account in its startup parameters. What am I missing?

Have you tried to set it up to run as a system account using an admin account running locally? Setting it up a service might give you better results.

I travel with my laptop extensively. While on the road on public high speed connections, I can receive my pop3 mail from .comcast.net, however I can not send email.

I have been told to use outgoing server 465, but that doesn't do it.

I have to resort to using Mozilla thunderbird, which works fine, however I WOULD REALLY like to keep using Outlook as my email program.

When I do a "test settings" from outlook every step works EXCEPT sending test message. Nor can I send emails in my outbox.

Again, if I use Mozilla, I can send without any issues.

Is there something wrong with my Outlook, or is this normal.

new to the forum, JWB

I am running XP home

A:Outlook 2002 outgoing server

This is normal because, when on the road, you are not connecting to the Comcast network. Comcast, like most ISP's, do not allow email to be sent through there outgoing SMTP server unless you are connected to their network. This is a security feature to stop spammers from accessing the ISP's SMTP server from multiple networks. It doesn't matter with the POP server because that is an inbound connection that is delivering mail to your email client. In order to send while on the road you need to find out what the outgoing SMTP server is for whatever network you are connecting to and put that in your server settings. You will probably also need to set up an account with the ISP you are trying to send from. You can still access and send from your Comcast account using their HTTP webmail access or you can use web2mail but both of these options will not work with Outlook

Recently we decided to purchase a small number of Office XP liscenses to test and evaluate before deciding to outlay the cash to upgrade the organization. I, being the network administrator, am one of the Guinea Pigs.

We use Netscape Messaging Server. When I upgraded Outlook, I found that I can no longer use our ldap address server to look up addresses. I recieve the following message in a pop-up box:

Insufficient Rights to Browse the Directory.

Then I recieve a pop-up stating: The action could not be completed.

This only happens in Outlook 2002. If I uninstall it and go back to Outlook 2000, I don't have this problem. Neither does Mozilla 0.9.5 or OE 6. Only Outlook 2002.

Anyone have any idea what I need to change to be able to correct this?

A:Netscape Messaging Server and Outlook 2002

Hope this helps

To resolve this behavior, connect to the Internet or to the network that the LDAP directory server is on.

To work around this behavior, change the order of the e-mail accounts:

In Outlook 2002, on the Tools menu, click Address Book. The error may appear when the Address Book dialog box opens.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Options.
Change the option under Show this address list first to be an address book other than the LDAP directory.
Under When sending mail, check names using these address lists in the following order, move the LDAP directory to the bottom of the list by selecting it and clicking the down-arrow.

As the title says, I cannot SEND SMTP email using Outlook 2002 thru my own ISP (JUNO) even after following JUNO's own online Outlook configuring instructions.

I'm using:

OS: Win XP Pro
ISP: JUNO Platinum
email: MS Outlook 2002

I have already:

searched JUNO online help
searched the Web with google
searched this FORUM

Naturally, I shall continue searching, and also contact JUNO - at least try.

Are there any JUNO users out there successfully using Outlook to SEND smtp email?

Anyone with ideas on a setting or option that may affect this?

Any suggestions/help will be appreciated as I continue looking for the answer elsewhere. Will keep you posted.

Microsoft Outlook 2002 provides the facility to encrypt e-mails
sent between e-mail recipients. Encryption is used to prevent
parties other than the intended recipients from reading the
contents of an e-mail. Outlook uses public key certificates to
facilitate the exchange of the cryptographic keys that are used in
the encryption process, and Outlook offers a number of different
options as to what type of certificates can be used. S/MIME
certificates are the most commonly used (and are not affected by
the vulnerability that is the subject of this bulletin), but there
are other certificate options including V1 Exchange Server Security

A vulnerability exists because there is a flaw in the way Outlook
2002 handles a V1 Exchange Server Security certificate when using
it to encrypt e-mail. As a result of this flaw, Outlook fails to
encrypt the mail correctly and the message will be sent in plain
text. This could cause the information in the e-mail to be exposed
when the user believed it to be protected through encryption.

Mitigating Factors:
- -This vulnerability only affects encryption when a V1 Exchange
Server Security certificate is used. S/MIME encryption, which is
the most widely used form of e-mail encryption used by Outlook, is
not affected.

- -This vulnerability only affects Outlook 2002 and only when sending
HTML e-mail.
Maximum Severity Rating: Moderate
