Upgrade T440p screen

Q: Upgrade T440p screen

Hi, I have Thinkpad T440p 20AWS08M09: i5-4300M(2.6GHz), 14in 1366x768 LCD, Intel HD Graphics. I would like to upgrade it with FHD screen B140HAN01.2 (FRU PN 04X0436), whichexists in T440p FRU BOM list. 1:can every T440p machine type model (20AWS08M09, etc.) be equipped with a FHD screen, or only specific models? The problem predicted by me can be related with the number of lanes (1 or 2). I don't know if cable on my machine has 2 lanes. How can I check it? 2:can you provide FRU for cable with 2 lanes?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I would like to change the screen in my T440P.  It is a AU Optronics B140XTN03.3.  I would like to replace it with a 1080x1920.    It is a 30 pin connector.  It has the connector on the left side.   Do I need to replace the cable also as I see most screens have connectors on the right side?  And, Can you point me in the right direction to getting the correct screen and or cable? Thank you.

Hi, I would like to replace my HD+ Innolux screen for FHD LG LP140WF3 (SP)(D1) (FRU: 04x5916). Could anyone point me a genuine part seller in Europe? I have already asked in some parts stores but they only have "compatibile" screens. In Poland, even official lenovo service can't provide me an LG screen. Thank you in advance for response.

Is it possible to upgrade my CPU and RAM on my T440p?

A:T440p CPU and RAM upgrade

Welcome to the forum!

Yes, you can upgrade both. Max RAM is 16GB (2x 8GB), and you could install any CPU from the below list:

i5-4210M
i5-4300M
i5-4330M
i7-4600M
i7-4700MQ
i7-4710MQ
i7-4800MQ
i7-4900MQ

I'm only listing few models for the sake of keeping the list short. Basically any Haswell CPU should work.

To do this upgrades you need Lenovo's Hardware Maintenance Manual, which you can download from here:  click me!

That should be no problem, this mod has been reportedly done by many forum members. Is plug&play.

You will need to have a good thermal paste though, and clean the old one from the heastink.

Hello everyone, I need to ask you a question about ram voltage of a t440p. It came with 4gb, and wanted to change one slot to a bigger memory module.Techincal data say this laptop uses ONLY DDR3L (1.35v) because of the Intel i5-4300 (which also states this in its tech sheet). My question arised when I opened the backplate and found there are already 2x2gb modules of DDR3 (1.5v) working in it. When searching for data sheets of the rams, both work only at 1.5v.What's happening? I really don't underestand if they are running in a lowered voltage state, or why they are working at all. Here's one of the modulesThank you in advance

A:[QUESTION] t440p RAM upgrade

Is this a second hand T440p? (I don't recall Lenovo installing Kingston Value RAM modules in ThinkPads...)

Basically there is nothing you should worry about, a T440p can use both 1.35v and 1.5v RAM if I remember correctly. And 1.5v RAM can also run at 1.35v.

If you plan to upgrade your RAM I would remove those modules (they're Kingston's cheap RAM line) and install 2x 4GB or 2x 8GB (the latter is the max RAM supported by this model).

I am the proud owner of a T440p / i7 4710/IPS/250SD/16GB onboard. It's still up to it task (except an issue with out of sync video/audio - connected to realtek driver? Anyways...) Two questions:- what upgrades could I do? I know I could get a little faster CPU - but probably not more than 10% faster.- if I went for a new machine, would a (for example) T480 - i7-8650u, be a real upgrade? I am in doubt, as cpu-reviews only give it a 10-25% speed advantage (and for multicore even less). Or are there real improvement options around? ThxTuur

I have recently sourced a known-working i7 4800MQ processor to replace the i7 4600M in my 440p. The system is on the latest BIOS according to the Windows 10 update tool and I am already using the 20v 4.5A (90W) power brick. Swapping the processor, appling thermal compound and attaching the fan unit it simply won't power on with the new CPU - pressing the power button just flashes the power LED 3 times in succession (it never stays on to indicate the battery is charging) - no fans, no LCD, no beeps. Exchanging the processor back for the original 4600M it fires straight into life again. I've tried resetting the CMOS by leaving the coin cell unplugged for 30 minutes or more, static discharge by holding down the power button with everything disconnected. All of the normal tricks I can think of - nothing makes any difference.  I found one other case where a CPU upgrade caused the same symptoms: https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/4iv5sn/t440p_cpu_upgrade_woes/  but not many people seem to have had problems using the faster processors from the qualified hardware list. Is there something I am missing here? John

There is no error code nor a prompt for ThinkPad setup. When a swap the old processor back, I am able to boot. I've talked to a few places and they have stated that it may be due to an incompatible socket type.  I looked at Intel's site and it states that the FCPGA946 is a supported socket type - http://ark.intel.com/products/75131/Intel-Core-i7-4900MQ-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-3_80-GHz I looked at CPU World' site and it states that the rPGA946b is the supported socket type - http://www.cpu-world.com/sspec/SR/SR15K.html The FCPGA946 socket seems to be compatible with my rPGA947 socket since they are both G3.  Wiki says "Socket G3, also known as rPGA 946B/947 or FCPGA 946, is a socket for Intel microprocessors that supports Haswell-based mobile CPUs."Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Socket_G3 I have read that the "rPGA947 has one extra pin hole, but otherwise it is similar to the rPGA946. Nothing happens with just battery  or battery + AC power.I disassembled it and reconnected what i could but didnt help.Since then there isnt any beeping at AC adapter connection just the power button is blinking 3 times then repeat. So the situation is that i have now a disassembled laptop again because i try to find out some solution. Anybody any idea? Is that possible that it switches on just in case of being fully assembled?

I have been using Lenovo T and W series for years, but this is my first post, so if I am not following the etiquette correctly, please let me know. I just bought a used lenovo T440p (i7-4900MQ with Nvidia graphics, screen 1920x1080 IPS). The operating system is Windows 8.1. On white background I see a vertical line about 5 inches from the right of the screen. This line comes and goes but it is most often there. I have tried to view youtube videos full screen to use the Nvidia adapter to see if it is the screen or the video board (the line is always there). I have also connected an external monitor to the laptop and don't see the vertical line. I am wondering if this is a driver issue, operating system issue, or the screen is faulty. The laptop is still under waranty so I wanted to see what would be the best approach to taking action. Thanks for any suggestions.

Hello, i've ordered an AUO B140HAN01.2 screen panel for my Lenovo T440p laptop because i wasn?t satisfied with the default LG 140WF1 screen panel . after examination of the model i have purchased, what i actually got from the seller was AUO133D. furthermore, i can't see any difference between the previous screen and the latter. Now i?m considering to send back the AUO133D.  I would appreciate if you could kindly answer two questions for me, or direct me what to do next. What is the quality level of the AUO 133D in comparison to the AUO B140HAN01.2 and compared to the LG140WF1?After installing the 133D and checking the Monitor name it was written as: Generic PnP Monitor. is there any chance that i didn?t install the screen/drivers properly and might have lowered the quality of the outcome?  Thank you!Adam

A:Lenovo T440P screen panel replacement

I can't speak to AUO133D nor LG140WF1, but I upgraded from my HD+ LCD FRU 04X0592 to the AUO B140HAN01.2 and am very happy with the new screen. I purchased it from ebay from a chinese seller who specifically listed it as AUO B140HAN01.2. My Device Manager also shows Generic PnP Monitor. I paid a little more but had a better assurance on what I was getting. In your case, you're going from an LG FHD panel to an AUO FHD panel. I don't know how  much of a difference it would be. I would return what you received.

I have T440p with Win10 PRO 1903 OS build 18362.295. The T440p is pretty much rock solid except for occasional sleep issue, very annoying when it occurs. I rarely turn off (shutdown) the computer but choose to use sleep. Fn+4 puts it to sleep, usually instantly. Most of the time this goes to sleep fine (and wakes up too when I want to). Sometimes though the screen will go black but the thinkpad doesn't actually go to sleep - I can hear the fan and power led and the red i in the Thinkpad logo doesn't blink red slowly. When this occurs I can't get the display to come back to life. Not even hooking up an external display. I tried all sorts of things. I've even let it sit for hours, still a black screen and no sleep. All I can do is hold the power button down for 4 seconds to do a hard power off, which I avoid at all cost. What I've noticed is it more often happens when I'm connected to Cisco VPN. So I get in the habit of disconnecting VPN before putting it to sleep. No USB devices attached either and no network drives connected either. Nor is it part of a Windows domain (not an enterprise device). Looking for ways to fix this. Hopefully someone has the magic answer.

Hi! I bought the refurbished T440p (Machine Type Model: 20AWS08M09). For my serial number at Lenovo warranty lookup site I see specification as follows: i5-4300M(2.6GHz), 8GB RAM, 240GB Solid State Drive, 14in 1366x768 LCD, Intel HD Graphics, DVD Recordable, Wireless option, WWAN option, Bluetooth, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure Chip, Camera, 6c Li-Ion, Win7 Pro 64. It seems strange to me that, in fact, my laptop has a screen with a resolution 1600x900, but not 1366x768!!! Of course, I suspected that the screen could be replaced. However, outwardly it looks completely untouched and the lateral plastic frames fit very tightly to the screen (like on new laptop). Could such a screen be installed in the factory? How can I make sure that the screen is original?

However, before taking any further actions (which include riding 100km to the nearest service center) I?d like to make sure I didn?t miss anything and have no other options left. So, below is the list of versions I?ve rejected and reasons why:GPU failure or GPU driver issue. Since I get an image from an external device I assume GPU is ok. Just in case, I?ve rolled back GPU drivers for both Nvidia and Intel HD Graphics and nothing good nor bad happened. Some OS settings thing. I?ve got both Windows 7 and Ubuntu 16.04 installed on the same machine, and the problem begins before any of them starts loading (i.e., screen remains black while POST). Also, both Windows Device Manager and Linux hardinfo see only the external display. Lenovo Solution Center ?Snapshot? menu fails to provide any information about current device display.LCD cable or panel went down. I?ve managed to borrow another ThinkPad t440p for a while. Both LCD cable and panel work fine while connected to another laptop.Considering observations above, I conclude that system does... Read more

Hello, My Thinkpad t440p turns off and on when power changes. If power is disconnected, the screen goes black like sleeping then comes back on after a few seconds. It does that as well when the power is connected. I tried the whole advanced display settings thing that I found here. It didn't work. The change is uncomfortable, especially given that I may not be prepared for the change (power situation and all). Please help!

A:T440p sleeps and wakes on power change - connected and disconnected. Screen turns off then on

Hello and welcome,

Your laptop actually sleeps?  It's not just the screen blanking?

And please explain what you mean by "the whole advanced display settings thing".  It's impossible to know what you've already tried from that description.  Do you mean you've set the AC and battery screen refresh rates to be the same?  That is what usually fixes what you describe - if it's just screen blanking.

Z.

I am looking to upgrade my lenovo yoga 910 13IKB screen to one compatable with an active digitizer that is available with some of the newer models. From my understanding, as long as the form factor is the same(fits computer) and the connector is identicle it should be possible with just a torx driver. My finance's laptop is a generation newer (has digitizer pen) and seems to have the same dimensions as mine. Has anyone tried this or know if I am missing something? Thoughts?

Hi,I recently purchased a used T440p, more specifically a model 20AW-S0RK03. Unfortuntatly it arrived damaged and, naive as I was, I accepted a small partial refund and figured it wouldn't be too much on an issue to replace it...However, it seems that this part is rather difficult to obtain and furthermore I now realize that the palmrest for the T440p exists with several different internal designs (number/placement of screw holes etc.).If possible I would much prefer not having to disassemble it twice - once to figure out the part number and once again when the part arrives - so if anyone can inform me what part number I need for my specific model (20AW-S0RK03), then that would be a huge help.Any tips on where to buy (if allowed) will also be greatly appreciated. Note that I'm a student, so both cost and delivery time (I'm in Europe) needs to be considered. Thanks in advance. I really hope that someone can assist me with this tiresome situation.Rasmus

T440p keeps shutting off. Particularly when I start a game. No battery. What I've tried so far:Replace fan/heat sink.Replace i5-4210 with i7-4700mq.Thermal gel properly done.Tried four different brands of RAM.Swapped HDD.Installed MS Office 2013, and .NET framework 4.5 Both run without a hitch. Installed The Sims2, and it kicks off on launch. Same thing with Mass Effect 2. Still kicks off. It will run all day surfing the internet, running office, etc. Any suggestions?

sounds like overheating.  Can you install something to monitor temperatures, like TPFanControl?

Also, it works differently with no battery.  You should get one.

Do you have discrete or integrated graphics?  What is the rating of your power supply?

Hi,3 months ago I bought a t440p with 4700qm, nvidia gt730m, 8gb ram,...I have windows 7 installed on it and it bothers me a little, that surface of the left side of keyboard and also whole mousepad gets pretty warm. It's not comfortable to type nor to work with mouse. I know, that proc is 47W and also nvidia is there to bring up the heat, but all I'm doing is browsing on the internet and I have the nvidia disabled in Control panel -> devices. Is this normal? I've checked the temperature of the proc, and it's normal (around 52 - 56C), but it's not normal to me, that the surface is so hot.Anyone else also has this problem?

The 14" segment has historically had issues with heat dissipation. Is it hot on the top or bottom of the base?
