Loading screen takes forever to load!

Q: Loading screen takes forever to load!

So i got this Dell Laptop to fix...weird thing is

it will be stuck on the load-up screen for 15-20 minutes or more, then logging in will take another 10-15 minutes...

I tried looking into the system configuration through msconfig

disabled most of the startup programs down to the two most important ones
also played around with the "system services", but no luck...both will still startup the laptop really slow...

it has a 1gb ram and all updates/drivers are installed...

i also tried swapping the hdd with another laptop, still the same thing. I do not suspect it to be a bad hdd

but even after swapping the hdd, it will still take a very long time to load up and login....

occasionally the explorer.exe will shoot up to 50% CPU usage without me doing anything...

i believe these two are related in some way...

any ideas...thanks in advance

Preferred Solution: Loading screen takes forever to load!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

For clues run the free programs Autoruns and Process Explorer to see what's starting up / going on. Is Windows updating anything in the background.
Is the HD from the other computer running on the exact same kind of computer?

My problem is windows 7 takes a long time to go past the welcome loading screen when it's loading the OS. (FYI- Win7 came preloaded when I purchased my laptop)It takes about 5-10 mins to finally load onto desktop.Never took so long before up until last night.Once at the desktop...I can't open my programs like normal each time it freezes/lags/slow as molasses if you will .Then I'm able to open up a program and it continues...Sometimes the screen blacks out and never returns so I reboot.Whatever trojan/virus is present manages to disable McAfee protection each time I start up.I would have to go in and enable it each time I'm logged on.Steps I've taken:***I've tried booting up via safe mode (same thing happens).***I've ran the startup repair (could not detect a problem).***I've Cleared out my temp files.***I've Defrag my laptop.***I've ran spybot search & destroy(found the following Doubleclick,Win32.Agent.ws,Zedo)***I've done a system restore to a point where my laptop worked like charm.***I've ran full MBAM (safe mode) scan results...(no malicious viruses detected).***I've ran full McAfee (safe mode) scan results( no viruses found).I wanted to see what could be done first, before I attempt a system recovery which is at the bottom of my totem pole, don't want to lose my data. Please Advise & Your Assistance would be greatly appreciated!

ok this is gonna be a bit long but i want the details there. the issue pc is my old pc. it has windows 7 its an asus msn-la motherboard i cloned this drive and used it in my new pc. after a few months my new pc's drive died and i took the old drive from the issue pc(witch was not giving issues at this time) and stuck it into my new pc until my replacement drive came. when i got the replacement drive i cloned the drive again onto the replacement drive and then put the new drive in the new pc had no issues there. put the old drive back into the issue pc (this is when issues started) the pc booted up to the windows desktop loading screen fast but once it got there it sat there for like 5 min before loading into windows. once it loaded into windows it was un usable for around 10 min while it loaded background stuff. once it finally loads into windows if i try to open anything its still responding extremely slow. is there anything i could do to fix this or is this going to me a re install only situation? i did try to use a windows 7 disk to do a startup repair but it claimed i couldn't do it because i dident install from that disk.

Earlier today I turned on my Toshiba laptop (Satellite P855-S5200) and got some sort of error screen, and then it brought me to a screen asking if I wanted to do a system repair or start windows normally. I chose system repair, but then it seemed to get stuck in that process (It was taking forever and nothing was happening), so I turned off the laptop (I know, big no no), booted in safe mode, and did a system restore to a restore point from about a week ago. The "starting Windows" screen came and went, no problem. Everything seemed fine till I got to the User Selection screen (the default blue one with the little hummingbird or whatever). Then it just sat there on that screen. I could see the hummingbird and the little squiggly lines, but there were no buttons to click my user. I just let it sit there, and after about 5 minutes, the user names popped up, and I was able to continue using the computer without any problems, no other speed issues whatsoever. It now makes me wait every time, always about 5 minutes, before the user names pop up. It does this when I restart the machine and when I try to switch users.

It is a Pentium Core i7
2.3 Ghz
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Let me know if you need any other specs.

Any ideas?

Work through these steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start.

The steps begin with disinfection from Safe Mode or boot disk, since if Win7 is badly infected it may not repair until cleaned up. Then everything possible to start it is sequenced.

I would also do the hardware tests provided before rescuiing the data to run Recovery or get the superior Clean Reinstall.

I have windows 98 with ie6 and firefox 2 installed. My problem is that oftentimes it takes 2-3 minutes to switch from one open window to another or to open a new web page. My computer whirs and clicks forever and while it is doing this I can't do anything else ecept press alt-ctl-del to end the process and even that takes a long time to accomplish.
At first I thought it was a problem with ie6 so I installed firefox. Firefox worked fine the first few days but then it began behaving like ie6 taking forever to navigate between open windows. I tried disconnecting from the internet by turning off my dsl modem but the 'puter just kept whirring and clicking.
I ran a reg scan with cc and it reported no issues.
Any ideas?

About a week and a half or so ago loading media files takes forever. Whenever I click on a MP3 or AVI file it takes about 30 secs before it loads. In the meantime I get a Windows Explorer has stopped responding dialog and I can either shut it down or wait for it to load.

I've run Spybot, Adaware, and installed ZoneAlarm. I keep getting a message that my computer is trying to access another comp on my network.

I've also tried restoring to an older restore point with no luck. I have no idea what may be causing this. Any help would be massively appreciated.

My desktop is taking so long to load up the desktop every time after I started up the laptop. It just gives me a black screen with somewhat dim light. Although, I can see and move the mouse cursor on the screen.
I rarely restart my laptop though (Maybe once every 2-3 weeks). Could this be the problem? Or is it possible for some malwares to cause this, as recently I scanned quite a lot of adware and malware on my laptop.
FYI, my toolkit:

I am using MS Word 2000. It use to load fast, but now it takes over a minute to load. I am not sure what the problem is. I can tell that when I start Word up that it causes network activity as if it is trying to find something on the Internet or on my home network. Normal.dot is in the right place, but even if I try to load normal.dot by double clicking it in the directory, it takes forever to load up. Now this problem only occurs when I load Word by click on the application icon or try to open the Normal.dot template directly. If I open any other document that I created directly, Word starts up fine. I think the problem is with the normal.dot template, but I am not sure how to fix it.

Thanks for the help.

I was having so much trouble with IE loading (it took minutes not seconds) that I switched to Foxfire in the summer. However I still have to use IE for certain client sites. It was taking forever to load but then seemed OK. Now not only does it take several minutes to load it also has a very slow response time when I click on anything. Sometimes I have to click on a web page menu item twice just to get it to recognize I clicked. It's not my mouse/touchpad. It's not my internet connection (blazing fast on another). I have tried so many tools/checkers. I've deleted cookies, files, history. I've deselected all add-ons. Just to click on HOME takes forever to be recognized that I even selected it.

It gets worse. I can't even uninstall IE7. It's not under the control panel as a program OR not listed as a an update. I've tried going to MS website to try a fresh download but can only get a download for XP (I have Vista). Does anyone have any links?

Any help appreciated!

This is an incredibly weird problem that began happening in conjunction with another problem which I posted under the OS forum, but as it might be related, I'll include it below. First, the IE/FF problem...this started happening about two weeks ago, IEv7 would constantly crash -- didn't happen consistently on any one page, it would crash when I went to Yahoo and clicked on 'mail', it would crash when I went to eBay and tried to do a search...so I'd launch Firefox...that would take a whole five minutes to load! So I tried updating IE to v8...problem has not gone away. I haven't installed anything these past few weeks other than the usual Windows updates. I am running Vista Home Premium with SP1 which came installed on my Toshiba Satellite. (And just now, when I went to upload the pics below, my FTP program took about five minutes to load, another odd symptom.)

Here's the OS problem: when I hit Start > Programs > and the list of installed programs comes up, sometimes my mouse hovers over a program and gets the little 'description' window...well, that window won't go away. (This usually happens when IE has crashed and I attempt to launch FF as stated above). Here are some pics of this happening this morning (note the "Location: Acrobat.com" window):

...and that window stays on top of everything:

I finally figured out to get rid of it I need to hit Start > Programs and hover over that same program, then i... Read more

Hello -

As before, you seem well protected, and nothing is apparent in your HJT log. Do you do regular system maintenance, like deleting temp files and cookies, and defrag?

Do other programs access the internet freely? Such as updating your protection tools or using your email program?

Do you use an alternative browser such as Firefox or Opera? (You should, but that's for another tale) If so, do they experience the same slowness?

What sort of internet connection do you have? Broadband, dialup, modem, router, etc....

HJT is only one of several analysis tools at our disposal. Let's see if another one can find something amiss.

I can grow a beard waiting for my taskbar to load, which only has my Nod32 antivirus and sound icon on it.

I just looked at MSCONFIG startup and there are only 2 things ticked - Nod32 antivirus and Clocktray skins which is how I want it, so I don't see why it takes so long to load those 2 little programs.

Also I have a hard time opening most if not all of my programs...have to keep clicking until they finally open up, and then there are like 3-4 windows of the same program open because of me clicking and clicking to get them to open.

Oh yes and sometimes closing my programs also takes a long time. Even my task manager takes forever to load when I am trying to close a program if it won't close with right-clicking.

My PC is a fairly new Dell...WinXP Pro with SP2. I think I got rid of spyware and adware with running No Adware, Lavasoft Adaware, AVG antispyware, Pest Patrol...etc.

Any insight as to this problem? Thanks

Another weird thing I came across in the Release Preview (which I know is not a final product, but it is a strange issue).

If I open up Action Center, expand Maintenance and click on "View reliability history" the Reliability Monitor never loads, it's just stuck at the "Generating report" message and never actually shows the report. If I forcefully click on "Reliability Monitor" in the address bar, it shows up but has no entries whatsoever. And my current install of the Release Preview is already a few days old. I immediately noticed that the initial report (where it lists all the initial drivers and updates etc.) takes longer to actually show me anything "just" after installing the OS (in 7, it takes about a day, but in 8 it can take up to two).

+++ During the time I took to wrote this post, the Reliability Monitor loaded with no entries... Extremely weird seeing as how I never experienced this in 7.

Strange problem that started happening yesterday. All of a sudden everything takes forever to open or run once I boot up.

PC boots normally, everything looks great, but double clicking an icon or right clicking the desktop for a menu, or even trying to open the start menu takes upwards of 10-15 minutes to complete. This machine has been running perfectly up to this point, including yesterday. The only thing I did that was out of the norm yesterday was to try IE to download a file from a friends box account, which failed anyways. This was the first time in YEARS that I opened IE on this machine.

I have tried running malware bytes, spy bot, registry mechanic all with positive results. I opened IE and reset internet options so that it would disable all toolbars, I booted up with avast disabled. When I boot into safe mode, things seem to be ok although I haven't tried to fire up a program but the desktop functions normally. I tried running windows updates and while it took quite some time, it finally told me that I was up to date.

I'm not sure what else to try, so any help is greatly appreciated!

After installing Ineternet Explorer 9, the first page takes about 30-45 seconds to load. IE 8 was instant. Its the "Washed out look" with the spinning circle for a bit, then finally loads. After that every page loads quickly. What I've done:

Disabled all addons
Ran "without addons" version
Tried about:blank start page
Tried software rendering mode
disabled third part browser extensions.
reset all internet explorer settings
disabled Norton 360

Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

Hi guys,

I've just gotten this issue where iTunes takes forever to load and then does not respond. It seems to have happened after installing the latest update to version I've tried all the normal ideas like reinstalling, trying to go back to previous versions, cleaned up the registry and pretty much any fix that I found through googling the issue. Nothing has managed to get iTunes going again and was wondering whether anyone had any possible ideas for a fix. I'm aware of the other programs out there that are available out there but I am kind of stuck with iTunes as I have about 15 years worth of music and playlists on there. I am more than happy to provide any extra detail that's required to help out further.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I searched in the forums for my question but could not find anything(I am sure there is)
Anyway , I just installed Vista Ultimate on a older hd (maxtor) on a new motherboard with a Athlonx2 4200. I am not sure what happened but now it seems when I reboot or turn on the computer , after the bios screen the screen turns black shortly and then you see the green bar loading Vista. I have clocked this at 6 minutes and 22 seconds I am not sure if its my older HD or what. I also looked at the in the vista troubleshooting about this and it didt really have a solution that would work. I dont have anything serously running or anything.
When I am on vista its super fast and I am happy , but this slows me down.
ANy ideas? I did everything I can think possible.

I've noticed that lately when I turn my laptop on, it takes forever for the desktop to load and then when I click on IE, my home page doesn't want to open until I've used task manager several times to stop the program from running. I have AVG free version and I'm very careful of where I search and what I open. I've done virus scans from online and with AVG, I've deleted several programs I had on my computer, etc. Nothing seems to help. I did the ComboFix scan and have the log saved to my notepad. It did not seem to help. This is as far as I've gotten. I am not very computer literate, but when I do try something from different posts, I've been successful. I don't know if I have programs fighting each other to open, or what, Can anyone help?

My laptop is a Dell Inspiron Windows 8. Basically everytime I try to start it up it takes ages to load. It still lets me type my password in but even then, it takes forever to start.

A:Dell laptop takes forever to start and load up

There are many reasons why it takes a long time to load Windows. A most likely answer is that you have many programs loading on startup and it takes time for all these programs to load. You can download and install free CCleaner and look at tools - startup to see what programs are starting when you boot. Disable the ones you don't think you need and see if that helps.  You can always re-enable them if some program you need does not start. CCleaner will also remove temporary files and free up some disk space in case your drive is getting full. A second issue is malware.  If you have some type of malware, this can cause a long boot.  Download and run the free Malwarebytes Antimalware and let it clean your system.  I have never seen it remove a valid program but I've seen it catch over 1000 instances of malware on a computer. A third reason is that your operating system has corrupt files. You can try and fix them using an administrator command prompt and typing the command SFC  /scannow.  You can fix all of the above issues by completely reloading the operating system. Finally, you could have a hardware issue like a failing hard drive.

IE takes forever to load. I have internet connection and did a troubleshoot w/ Linksys and comcast, and no roblems there.

This seems to be isolated to IE. When I click the ble E it literally takes 3 - 5 mins for a page to pop up. All other apps and non-internet programs seem to run fine.

For some reason the green bar goes all the way across the top of the screen before the devices and printers menu will load. In then loads without an issue after waiting for almost two full minutes. This is a core I7 Win 8.1 PC with 16GB of ram and an SSD so it screams otherwise.

I do have a lot of devices on my home network but my windows 7 PC which is on the same network loads the devices and printers menu almost instantly. If it were a device hanging up you would think that the Windows 7 PC would also be affected but it isn't. I will say that Windows 8.1 does identify a whole lot more devices that fall into the category of "multimedia devices" on the network than does windows 7.

I don't really have a good feeling as to how to go about troubleshooting this one?

I have the same problem. It takes 2 to 3 minutes to load. I have looked all over the internet for a solution to no avail. There was some information to set Bluetooth Support Service to Automatic load instead of manual that worked for some. It has not worked for me.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Many people are having the same problem.

I just updated my computer from Windows 8 to 8.1 (via Store), and my computer is working fine except for the right-click menu on the Desktop, that is taking forever to load.

First I thought it was some problematic shell extension (specially because Intel Graphics Control Panel was also updated, and the new version had icons along to the options). So I run ShellExView and disabled the mentioned extension, but the problem was still there after I restarted my computer.

Weird thing is that the problem only occurs when I click on a "empty" place on the Desktop, but clicking on icons on the desktop, or wherever else is OK. It's also weird that it occurs both when I'm on the Desktop or when I'm on File Explorer, accessing C:\users\*username*\desktop (it's also weird that, when I'm using File Explorer, sometimes, some desktop icons, such as my shortcuts and folders, disappear).

I don't really know what to do to fix this. I'd be grateful if anyone could help me.
I'm adding some screenshots with the shell extensions found, in case it's helpful.

Thanks for the attention and support

I'm running windows 7 64 and whenever I start up my laptop windows 7 takes forever to load my network. You can see it doing that loading symbol over where the white bars would be on the bottom right of the task bar. Idk why it does this but I think it has something to do with windows gadget taking long to load as-well because ever since this started, so has windows gadgets taking forever to load. Any ideas on what I can do to fix this because it takes around 2 min to connect.

There's evidence of a hack so please check this by running TDSSKillerDownload TDSSKiller and save it to your Desktop.

Extract its contents to your desktop and make sure TDSSKiller.exe (the contents of the zipped file) is on the Desktop itself, not within a folder on the desktop.

Go to Start > Run (Or you can hold down your Windows key and press R) and copy and paste the following into the text field. (make sure you include the quote marks) Then press OK.

"%userprofile%\Desktop\TDSSKiller.exe" -l report.txt

Now click Start Scan.
If Malicious objects are found, ensure Cure is selected then click Continue > Reboot now.
Click Close
Finally press Report and copy and paste the contents into your next reply. If you've rebooted then the log will be found at C:\
