Cannot reach any www.google site

Q: Cannot reach any www.google site

I have a Win XP SP3 desktop PC that developed a problem reaching search engine sites.
I have cleared out viruses and malware using various apps including MWB and other security software.
Had a problem with Bing but seems to be clear now, but still won't reach any www.google sites. Does reach google sites with prefix, such as maps.google, etc. but none of the www.google sites.
In accordance with your instructions I have run diagnostics and attach logs dds.txt and attach.zip
Also attached report from minitoolbox.
I hope you may have an answer up your sleeve.
Many thanks for any assistance.
Kind regards

Preferred Solution: Cannot reach any www.google site

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello qpager I would like to welcome you to the Malware Removal section of the forum.Around here they call me Gringo and I will be glad to help you with your malware problems.Very Important --> Please read this post completely, I have spent my time to put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier, faster and smoother for both of us!Please do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE: At the top of your post, click on the "Follow This Topic" Button, make sure that the "Receive notification" box is checked and that it is set to "Instantly" - This will send you an e-mail as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing us to resolve the issue faster.NOTE: Backup any files that cannot be replaced. Removing malware can be unpredictable and this step can save a lot of heartaches if things don't go as planed. You can put them on a CD/DVD, external drive or a pen drive, anywhere except on the computer.NOTE: It is good practice to copy and paste the instructions into notepad and print them in case it is necessary for you to go offline during the cleanup process. To open notepad, navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad. Please remember to copy the entire post so you do not miss any instructions. These are the programs I would like you to run next, if you have any problems with one of these just skip it and move on to the next one.-AdwCleaner-Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.Close all open programs and internet browsers.Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.Click on Delete.Confirm each time with Ok.Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart. Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer. You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.-Junkware-Removal-Tool-Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".The tool will open and start scanning your system. Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications. On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message. When they are complete let me have the two reports and let me know how things are running.Gringo

For some reason, I am unable to reach Ann Coulter - Official Home Page on my computer. It's been several weeks since I was last able to visit the site. The problem happens in every browser I have, including recent or current versions of Firefox, IE, Opera and Chrome. I can reach any other website I try to get to just fine. I never used to have any trouble reaching that website until about a month ago. No one else uses this computer and I live alone.

It appears that I've blocked that one site but I'm darned if I can figure out how.

Here's what I've tried so far:
1. Run Avast Free Antivirus with the latest version of the program and definitions. Results: no threats found with either the quick scan or the full scan.
2 Run Malware Bytes with the latest definitions. Results: Results: two threats found and removed but I still can't reach the Coulter website.
3. Checked my Hosts file. Results: nothing there is blocking any website.
4. Checked my router settings. Can't see any blocks there.
5. Had other people try to access the site; they were successful.
6. Googled and found one other forum where someone was having the same problem with respect to the Coulter website. But his problem apparently went away two weeks ago. He didn't indicate if he had done anything to make it go away.
7. Checked the Windows Event logs but can't see anything there reflecting my problem.

Can anyone suggest anything else I can check?

I can live without this website working but it's bugging me tha... Read more

This is bizarre.

I'm trying to persuade my browser to connect with www.piratour.net. It times out and fails to find it.

I try on my phone using the home wi-fi - same result.

I switch off my phone wi-fi and try with data. Success!

This happens on the PC with both Firefox and Edge.

I open a command window and try ping www.piratour.net. Nothing, however the screen tells me immediately that the ip address is .

I have spent quality time with my ISP (Plusnet in the UK). The man tried that address from his own machine - no success.

I have tried changing the DNS servers (my idea). No luck.

The fact that the service guy also couldn't reach it suggests that the problem is somewhere way outside my setup.

I would appreciate any thoughts.

I'm trying to reach a friend's FTP site and can't get any connection/response.

Direct FTP attempt: The operation "times out".
Pinging his IP address from CMD prompt: All attempts time out.
Tracert to his IP: It begins the trace process, but loses the route after about 4 hops.

I have placed his IP address in the excluded (allowed) sites in my firewall settings. I can't figure out what else may be preventing my connection. Any help?

I am using a NetGear RP614 v1 router to share a cable network connection to the Internet. The router is not set up to block any sites. I have reduced the maximum packet size from 1500 to 1400 to 1300 bytes, but no change in connectivity has happened. Any ideas wher to look?
The DNS servers listed by the router are correct, and I still cannot connect if I enter the IP address rather than the URL.

You can not access your own IP, if that is the IP-number in your router.
Just use http://www.forsyth.k12.ga.us/ and all should be fine.

To use some features on the Nascar.com web site, you need to log in through https://secure.audience.nascar.com. Problem is, the site can't be reached or pinged. Increasing ping time generates nothing but timeout errors. Something in the computer is blocking it from reaching that web address, whether it's entered as a name or a numeric address. This problem happens with four different web browsers - IE8, Firefox 3, Chrome and Safari.

It's a Gateway laptop with Vista SP1. It happens with a LAN connection. WiFi and Ev-Do. The web address is available on one machine with an identical WiFi link but not with the Gateway laptop.

Here are some of the attempts to solve the problem that have failed:

Resetting TCP/IP stack.
Switching DNS server.
Removing Norton Internet Security 2008.
Shutting down Windows Defender.
Running the computer with no firewall.
Removing and reinstalling network adapters and reinstalling drivers.
Running Vista in safe mode with networking.
Removing all temporary files and history.
Adding the domain to the IE trusted sites list.

The secure.audience.nascar.com address and the nascar.com domain are not blocked in the Hosts list.

NASCAR tech support has no idea what's going on.
Several checks of other web sites and Microsoft's online support on problems with accessing https secure sites have turned up no problems with accessing that site.

Hi guys!!  Boy, I hope you can help me because I am about to pull my hair out over this one.
I think I got infected with some virus called HEU_AEGIS_HttpDownloader blah blah a month back.  I think this because it came up in my AV (Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security).  The AV did its thing and I guess cleaned the virus or removed it.  It no longer shows up.  During this time, I also received about a dozen of other warnings about a suspicious file which Trend deleted whenever it showed up.  It was always found at: C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp\***.tmp.exe (the *** would always be some random letters and numbers).  This virus and ***.tmp.exe file no longer shows up.  However...
Since that virus popped up (and these two things may not be related) I keep getting a web threat listed in Trend Micro which shows a web threat which happens about twice every hour.  It says it 'blocked' a web threat to website address 176.9.##.###/ip.php
I have checked my services, msconfig start up settings, registry, and even a complete search on my hard drive for that IP (which I partially masked on purpose).  Nothing can find it.
I tried running full scans of Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security, Ad Aware, MalwareBytes, and Super AntiMalware.  All of them say my machine is clean.
I even tried using my earliest system restore point, and that did not rid me of these constant web threats.

A:HEU_AEGIS, computer keeps trying to reach a suspicious site

I believe I found the cause of this issue.  A rootkit was hiding itself pretty well.  Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, Trend Micro Titanium, and Ad Aware could not find it.  I finally tried Kaspersky's TDSSKiller and it found and deleted an .exe file and registry entry it said was a high risk.  Since it removed the file, I have had no web threats in the past 24 hours.
Here is the text of the infected file TDSSKiller reported and removed:
File: C:\Document and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\SystemCache\6.0\25\winhlp32.exe
Malware object, high risk
If anyone else is experiencing a constant barage of web threats being blocked and can't find the cause; be sure to try TDSSKiller.

A:How to reach a real person at Google?

Do you need access to anything in those dormant accounts? If not, they expire after (I think) 9 months of inactivity.
If you don't need anything rescued from them you can just open up a new account.
Like many people I have more than one Gmail account. I like to keep family, colleagues, web sites etc. separated. I know that can be done with tags/labels, but I find discrete addresses simpler!

Hope this helps?

Welcome to TSG!

Please do this. Go here http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ and download Hijack This. Un Zip it and click on the Hijackthis.exe.

Click the "Scan" button when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.

Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.

Do NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required. Someone here will be glad to advise you on what to fix.

I noticed a few days ago that I could not reach Google or many other search engines.
This drove me nuts until I found out about the QHosts-1 virus. It was identified Sep 30th as the QHOSTS-1 Virus, (AKA Trojan.Qhosts)

I just removed it from my computer - had me baffled for 2 days.

For more info check: (Partial quote below)
I used the remover, and that did not do the job. I had to turn off the system restore for XP and do the manual removal
(quoted @ bottom), and perform the critical updates before it was wiped out.
I did notice from the removal program that the viral file was sitting in an internet temp folder under my wife's login (on XP) - Thanks Honey!

More info see Symantic Security Response:

Trojan.Qhosts cannot spread by itself. For a computer to become infected, you would have to open an HTML page that contains code, which allows it to open a viral HTML file on the target computer, so that the script can create and run the malicious executable.

Symantec Security Response has developed a removal tool to repair damage from infections of Trojan.Qhosts.

Here is what I am missing:

Does anyone know why I am missing this key, and how I can continue to fix this annoying trojan?

Hi All,
I'm having a real frustration with Windows 2003 Server x32 and Internet Explorer 8.
I'm running Dynamics NAV on this server and simply want to backup the DB's to a Google Drive folder so that they get synced to Google Drive nightly.  For this I need to install and sign-in to the Google Drive downloadable application.
However, Google Drive opens up a IE dialog for the sign-in and I get this:

In IE itself I cannot access any Google domain site, including Youtube. (I get the same result as above in the actual browser). I also have Chrome installed on this server, and I
can access all of those sites in Chrome.

I understand that IE8 is no longer supported by Google, and im guessing that this is the issue.  However, I don't think there is a newer version of IE available for Server 2003 x32.
I have done a full reset on IE, run ipconfig /flushdns, checked the host file just in case and nada.  I still get the cannot display error.

Any suggestions?  I just need to get around this dialog to sign into Google Drive , and I'll never need to use IE for any other reason.

Thanks for any help,

Welcome to the BleepingComputer Forums. Since it has been a few days since you scanned your computer with HijackThis, we will need a new HijackThis log. If you have not already downloaded Random's System Information Tool (RSIT), please download Random's System Information Tool (RSIT) by random/random which includes a HijackThis log and save it to your desktop. If you have RSIT already on your computer, please run it again. Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT. Click Continue at the disclaimer screen. Please post the contents of log.txt. Thank you for your patience. Please see Preparation Guide for use before posting about your potential Malware problem. If you have already posted this log at another forum or if you decide to seek help at another forum, please let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and taking the time of two volunteer helpers means that someone else may not be helped. Please post your HijackThis log as a reply to this thread and not as an attachment. I am always leery of opening attachments so I always request that HijackThis logs are to be posted as a reply to the thread. I do not think that you are attaching anything scary but others may do so. I can't open www.google.com or any site that has google on it. It starts looking for the site and then it just hangs up and eventually times out. I thought maybe it was a virus, but I am not redirected to any other site, I just can't open that one. I am using a toshiba qosmio laptop F10 and I reformatted the hard drive and reloaded the recovery software to try to get rid of the problem. The only things I have reloaded are Norton Internet Security and Windows live messenger. I tried disabling the Internet security and accessing google.com, but I still can't get it. The wierd part is that I have another computer connected to the same router as my laptop and I have no trouble getting google on it, so I know the site is not down. It worked on the laptop fine until a couple of weeks ago. Accessing any other site works. Any help would be appreciated. Note - I saw that "newlinerealty" was also having google problems in another post and tried the suggestions that members made there (like trying https instead of http) and i also tried the link to google in that post, but they did not work.

Okay, so I have recently downloaded Google Chrome and started using it as a web browser. I remember a couple days ago, it appeared completely normal. However, last night, I noticed after conducting a google search and entering youtube.com, links to ads would appear on top of those websites (links more within google). These were obviously sketchy ones links should not have been there in the first place. So, I uninstalled and reinstalled it. It seemed to be cleared up, but was not. So, I ran superantispyware and it remove adware tracking cookies as a result of both a quick and full scan. I uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome and it slightly worked again without those ads appearing, but reverted back to the same thing, except not appearing on top of youtube. I did research online about it and saw something about removing the unnecessary browser extensions. It was a similar thing that I did for Firefox. So, I removed two extensions that seemed meaningless from Google Chrome's browser, which led the weird ads "not by this site" and "ads not by google" to disappear.

However, I want to know if the problem is truly gone. I wanna make sure there are no hidden problems (spyware, malware, etc) that is involved with this. There is not good information on this topic, so it would be nice to be educated about this not ads by this site thing. So please let me know what this is about and the best course of action that will make sure this problem is truly f... Read more

Since a few days after buying my new computer with Vista, something is wrong.
Every now and then, and lately more often, something is very wrong.

For example,
- I go to Google.com and I end up on Microsoft.com,
- go to Gmail.com, end up on webtrends.com,
- go to site X, it loads site Y,
- go to site Y, get an error screen from a random server.

Here are some screnshots in case you want to see.
Screenshot #1
Screenshot #2
Screenshot #3
Screenshot #4
Screenshot #5
Screenshot #6
Screenshot #7: TSF ends up as Google

I thought maybe a DNS issue, but "ipconfig /flushdns" doesn't do anything.
A reboot usually helps, but not always.
Holding CTRL+F5 for a few seconds helps sometimes.

It happends in Microsofts IE7, as well in Mozilla Firefox 2.

It has to be this computer that is the problem, because my XP machines never had this issue, and still don't. They are hookedup to the same router, are online at the same time, and are experiencing no issues.

Has anyone an idea that might cause this?

I've tried Googling, but you get SO many searchresults, and none are even remotely relevant.

A:Go to Google, get MS site instead.

Sounds like a spyware problem to me. It is not a problem with Vista. The smart thing to do is scan for spyware and viruses. If that doesn't fix it, reinstall windows.

Sorry about the bad news

A:Google secure site?

Apparently, certain versions of Firefox will force https if autocomplete is turned on.

This type of infection allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files without your knowledge.

I run Windows Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 2 on a Dell Insipiron 1525

For the last several hours, I have been receiving a sporadic redirect whenever I use urls that contain google.com

Instead of the regular google page, I am redirect to another site, which appears to be for travel. When I try to access country-specific google sites (such as google.co.in , google.com.hk, google.co.uk and so on), I receive a 403 error. This error extends to mail.google.com and other similar services.
Other search engines do not seem to be affected, however when this problem comes up, I lose access to the Kaspersky and TrendMicro websites

I have looked at the hosts file, which is in Windows\System32\Drivers\etc and it is the same as default. I also noted that there are no extra copies of the host file that show up upon search.

Strangely the problem is intermittent, and appears to have something to do with enabling or disabling of javascript on my browsers. That said, I am yet to figure out what that exact link between the two is.
For the most part, if I leave javascript enabled for some time, the redirect problem starts again. Following this, I disable javascript, open the hosts file as an administrator and save it (it never seems to have any changes), close all my browsers.
After this sequence, occasionally, google begins to work again.

I face the same issue with Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Opera

A:google.com is redirected to a different site

Trouble connecting: Google.com automatically takes me to another Google siteIn a nutshellIf you find yourself on a country-specific Google homepage, such as http://www.google.co.uk, you can always easily get back to Google.com by clicking the link below the search box.Google Web Search is customized for a number of countries and regions across the world. For example, Google.fr provides search results that are most relevant for users in France; Google.co.jp is the Google domain for Japan. We try to direct users to the site that will give them the most relevant results.Changing your settingsIf you'd rather use a different Google site, like Google.com, no matter where you are, try one of the following tips: * Click the Google.com link on any other domain. * Choose a Google domain manually by visiting the Language Tools page (the section with the flags). * Bookmark http://www.google.com/ncr. This is an alternative web address for Google.com that always takes you to Google.com without redirecting you.http://www.google.com/support/websearch/bi...&answer=873

Hi, recently, when searching on Google, the search result links sometimes redirect to a different site. After clicking on the link, the page goes blank and the status bar says "waiting for js.doubleclick.net". I think it's probably an adware site? I just bought a laptop with vista home on it. I turned it on and mostly everything worked right away. Except the internet. I have a wireless network, so I logged into that and it says its working fine. I can turn on internet explorer and the default home page (google) turns on fine. I can search on google, I can go to google images, and I can do anything else google-related. But when I try to go to any other site, it first takes about five minutes to load then says "page cannot be displayed." I searched all over the internet for a solution but I can't find anything. At this point I think I can rule out a hardware issue because this computer is completely new, and I can also rule out the network not working properly because I can actually connect to the internet and do searches, I'm just limited to google.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Edit: Okay, I tried to transfer a file from my other computer through the network (which the computer says is working fine) and it sees my other computer, I can double click the computer's icon and open up a page that shows me folders like "my documents". However, when I try to select one of the folders it takes a long time to load, then gives me an error message.

This doesn't make any sense to me. It seems like the entire network is not working except for allowing me to use the internet and then only to go onto google.

Anybody have any ideas?

A:Google is the only site I can connect to

I know this was an old thread, but I am having the same problem this user was having: I can load only sites run by Google. Through many searches, I've found other people who described this same problem dating back three years ago, but though it's an old issue, I can't find any fixes for it. Either the user's post goes unanswered (as the previous one seems to be) or people offer all kinds of things to check and try to no avail.

I have three computers. My newer laptop is running Vista Home Premium 32-bit. My desktop also has VHP32, but is not experiencing this problem. I'm on my old laptop now (XP), which also has no problem. I used my newer laptop last night and everything was fine. The sites I visited were the ones I'm often on. I shut down and went to bed. This morning I discovered I could fully access only Google sites -- I found two other sites (nothing to do with Google) that would load halfway (missing most graphics, functions). All three computers use the same router, a Comcast-issued Netgear.

Anyone know what's going on? I hadn't messed with any settings or anything like that.

I don't know what to do. Lately, when I open Google and type a search, I get redirected to a place in the UK. I've run virus and malware programs and I've done a system restore. No help.
Initially, I noticed when looking through my installed programs, that I had one that looked strange, namely appbario 16 toolbar I uninstalled and also uninstalled ffdshow & haali media splitter. Then I deleted all Google extensions. I thought I had it done but I still have the problem with the redirects, especially when I type directly in the address bar.
I use windows 7 and Google Chrome 29.0.1547.66 m. I have Toshiba Satellite.

PS: I've heard back from one of your techies who suggested I post here as well.

AVG PC Tuneup

We do not recommend the use of registry cleaners, or the registry cleaner feature of CCleaner. Our colleague miekiemoes has an excellent writeup here

We suggest uninstalling AVG PC Tuneup via Programs and Features in your Control Panel.

Please uninstall the following via Start->(or My Computer)->Control Panel->Programs->Programs and Features if it still exists:

Search Protect by conduit<<Please read this

Also delete the following Folders if they still exist:

Can someone tell me how to fix this issue? I had fixed this issue a while back but don't recalled what i did.

I also know some sites go to the .mx site but i have no issue with that. But with google etc, i want it to go to the us site.

A:Google need to be visited twice to get the correct site.

Welcome to TSF.

You have picked up the WareOut infection.

Please subscribe to this thread to be notified of fixes as soon as they are posted by our Team. To do this, please click the "Thread Tools" button located in the original thread line and selecting "Subscribe to this Thread".

Before you begin, take a read through these instructions and download the programs that I've advised. Save the below instructions in notepad or wordpad, because you also have to work in safe mode without networking support, so this page wouldn't be available then. You should not have any browsers open during the cleaning process unless otherwise prompted.

If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are carrying out the procedures below.

Please allow yourself a few spare hours. Below are instructions for a virus scan(s) that can take longer then 2 hours.

It is also important you don't miss a step and perform everything in the right order!! .
