Preferred Solution: Windows 7 Fail to boot and Startup repair Offline say Bad Driver

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I'm not good at computers so I'll describe what I did and experienced as far as possible:
There have been some problems with my computer that prevented my computer from shutting down or restarting. I was using Windows 7 English version at that time.
To try to tackle the problem, I installed Windows 7 Enterprise Chinese version (64 bit) that I got from my company. I tried a few times but it stated that windows can't be installed in MBR HDD so I formatted the HDD and converted it into GPT. I finally installed the windows successfully, had it verified and installed the Windows Updates. I then restarted Windows, hoping that the updates will take effect.
However, Windows couldn't start up since then because of "Bad Driver". I tried startup repair but the problem couldn't be fixed. The Problem Signature Screen, from signature 01 to 07 were "6.1.7600.16385, 6.1.7600.16385, unknown, 21199522, AutoFailover, 6, BadDriver" respectively.
What should I do to fix the problem? Are there any fixlogs for my situation?
Thank you in advance for your help and professional advice!

A:Windows 7 Startup Repair Offline Bad Driver

Some more info on the situation:
Windows restarted and went to the "windows boot manager" page with two options-"activate repair" & "start up windows" if i do not insert the installation disc.
Also, for problem signature 06, it is sometimes 6, 7, 8 or 10. Dunno why...
Thanks a lot for your help!

I'm a computer tech guy and one of my users brought me a desktop that didn't boot. So, I started the PC, it started to go into Windows, the logo stops, the BSOD flashes on the screen for a tenth of a second, then it restarts again.
So then, I let it do the startup repair and it took about 20 minutes, then shows me the Problem Signature screen (the pertintent ones are 05, 06 and 07 that say AutoFailover, 8 and BadDriver).
After that, I Googled "Repair Offline Bad Driver" and found this site (thank goodness!) I remembered the name of it because I've used ComboFix before on another computer (which fixed it), and I read about this program I never heard of before called Farbar Recovery Scan Tool.
Next, I take out my trusty thumbdrive (which is bootable), made a Win7 recovery drive and booted the PC with it and ran that program. It made this log file (which I know you need) that I can somewhat understand.
Now, I need your help to make a proper fixlog that I can use to get the system booting again (once that happens, I can take it from there so as not to disturb you any further). I'll keep you updated on what has transpired, though. Thank you for any assistance you give me. Here is the attached log:

Hi, sorry if i?m in the wrong area of the forum.

I tried to switch my laptop on yesterday and my computer froze on the Windows welcome screen. I waited for ages but it wouldn?t load so I switched it off by holding down the power button and tried to switch back on again. This time, it went to a Startup Repair screen. Waited for ages again and when the startup repair had finally finished it said it couldn?t be repaired. I have tried restarting loads of times since then and same thing happens. I got a message with all the error codes so I kept the details of this so I could determine the problem but I can?t find this exact error code/problem signature combination anywhere else.

Heres what it said:

Startuprepairoffline

Problem signature 1: 6.1.7600.16385

Problem signature 2: 6.1.7600.16385

Problem signature 3: unknown

Problem signature 4: 11

Problem signature 5: AutoFailover

Problem signature 6: 1

Problem signature 7: BadDisk

OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1

Locale id: 1033

Can anyone help I?d appreciate the advice.

Cheers.

p.s

I?ve tried booting with safe mode but still goes to startup repair, and I don?t have a windows 7 disk.

Alright, I'll save you any boring or long-winded overly verbose introductions, although I realize by saying that I may have already exceeded the allotted time for this introduction. Nonetheless, I'm getting a boot error wherein after the windows splash screen, the system hangs, screen goes black and resets. Startup repair doesn't work and I get the bad driver error as described in this thread:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/504168/another-user-with-the-windows-7-startup-repair-offline-bad-driver-issue/
Now, I'm convinced that this has been caused by attempting to update the drivers for my Nvidia GTX 660 because the computer crashed as I was installing the driver. Here's the thing though: It's crashed twice before while attempting to install the same driver, but I was able to use startup repair to restore functionality those other times. This time however, I figured I would attempt a clean install for the driver because it hadn't worked before (checked the "clean install" box when installing Nvidia GTX 660 Driver 344.11  WHQL). This, unfortunately, turned out to be the catalyst control center for my current predicament. It may also be related to Avast as I just recently installed their new internet security suite and I've read that it could cause conflicts with Nvidia. Also, it could have been that I was not only downloading something at the time, I was also watching a video as it was installing the driver, which I imagine is like... Read more

A:Startup Repair Offline - Bad Driver - Caused by Nvidia Update?!

At this point, it seems that without a fixlog, my only other option is to reformat and attempt a clean install.

If any mods or other users have seen this and can offer or are perhaps working on a fix, a reply saying they've seen the thread would be much appreciated, thanks!

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

Are you able to boot into Safe Mode? Have you installed any new drivers recently or installed any new software.

If you can get into Safe Mode you could try running the system file checker.

Open a command prompt with elevated privileges and type sfc /scannow then press Enter to run the command.

Are you able to remember what you were doing prior to this problem showing up?

Check this Microsoft article for further help: After you install a device or update a driver for a device, Windows Vista or Windows 7 may not start

I am running windows 7 on my desktop and I can't get it to start.
When I try startup repair on the "windows error recovery" screen it will go to a windows loading files screen, load the bar, and back to the windows error recovery screen.

If I try to choose starting normally it will go to the starting windows screen, then to a hp menu screen where you see all the f_ otions, then a raid options window, them again back to the windows error recovery screen.

I've tried a restore and it didn't fix the problem. Also, all the diagnostic tests come up as everything is working.

The only thing is, after trying to run the repair a few times, I got this:

Problem Event Name: Startup Repair Offline
Problem signature 1: 6.1.7600.16380
Sig 2: " "
Sig 3: unknown

Sig 5: system disk
Sig 6: q
Sig 7: NoOsInstalled
Os version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1
Locale I'd: 1033

I don't know what any of that means.
I'm willing to restore to factory settings and see of that works if I can back up my files... Which o also don't remember how to do, but I'd rather not.
Any suggestions?

Are you by chance running a modified Kernel (ie a non original MS OS)?

ntkrlstaforce.exe isnt a "standard" OS file?

"from a malware blog site"
you're using a modified kernel (NTKRLSTAFORCE.EXE). That's not supported by anyone. Since all kaspersky versions provide extended protection with deep ties into the kernel, expect it won't work.
so basically, if you're using a modified kernel:
-if it works: good for you
-if it doesn't: s***s for you

Hi, this is my first post, and I am not even sure if anyone on this forum can help me. I am having a major problem with my computer. I have a Lenovo laptop, an ideapad. I am running on windows 7. A few days ago I started up my computer, and it showed the windows sign as it usually does when starting up. But it stayed on that screen for ages, so I clicked enter to see if it was responding, and it wasn't, it just stayed there for a while. Then suddenly I was sent to the blue screen, for a few seconds, and then it told me my startup wasn't working. It asked me to log in as an administrator so I did. It then took me to the system recovery page. I tried doing the system repair, and all the other options. I have saved my computer many times, but when I tried to restore to a previous save point it said I didn't have any. I think the part of the disk that had the save files was corrupted. Anyways, after having a disk check done for almost 30 strait hours at still 7 percent, :/, I went to problem details. This came up.

My guess would be either the Hard drive is corrupt, or Memory failure.

Hello welcome to TSF! Try these. Use another pc to burn the ISO images to a CD as shown. Load the CD's to your pc to run the tests.

Go to Memtest86+ download the ISO image then burn it to a blank cd using Imgburn (how to burn an ISO image to cd using Imgburn) burn at lowest speed. With the newly burned cd and one RAM module at a time, boot with the cd and run at least 7 passes errors will be in RED

Repeat the process with each RAM Module at a time.

Downloading UBCD which is in my signature.Burn the ISO Image to a blank CD using Imgburn (How to burn a ISO Image using Imgburn) burn at lowest speed. With the newly burned cd boot with the cd go to HDD>Diagnostics>The maker of your HDD perform a extended or long test.

Hey,

I know other people have posted this same issue before but I figured it was best to inquire about my specific problem. My installation of Windows 7 won't boot after upgrading AVG Free and so I tried Startup Repair but that keeps on failing. I tried a System Restore but that didn't work either (the restore was successful but upon boot I still couldn't get into Windows).

So I pulled up Farbar and got the following log. I have no idea how to get the correct fixtlist.txt I need, I was wondering if someone here would know how to help. Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it.

Hi Pottsy, welcome to the Seven Forums.

Once again a good example why you should not use any registry cleaners. As you can read in several threads here and other tech sites, the general consensus seems to be that in knowing hands Piriform's CCleaner can be trusted but usually there's no reason to clean your registry. All other so called "cleaners" generally cause more issues than they resolve.

Speaking about myself as an example, I have not used (not a single time) any registry cleaners since I migrated from XP to Vista end of 2006 when it was released to manufacturers. Not with Vista, not with Seven and now not with Eight. Also I never "clean" the registry manually; the only registry editing I have done in the past over 7 years since XP days is an occasional value change in registry, for instance enabling something changing its value from 0 to 1. For this I use the built-in registry editor.

I have had exactly 0 registry issues during this time.

Can you start System Restore from the repair without Windows asking drivers? If so, select a restore point before you "cleaned" the registry. Tutorial: System Restore

Hello, my computer has been working flawlessly for the past year and has had no problems at all working currently with windows 7. Until two days ago when i was just browsing the internet and my computer froze and the whole screen tinted pink. I tried moving the mouse, typing in letters, but it was frozen. I was forced to power button to get the computer to shut off because i was unable to do anything. Upon restarting my computer it asked me if i wanted to run windows normally or use safe mode, so i run it normally and then on the load screen where you see the windows 7 logo it freezes every time. Greetings,About two weeks I was trying to remove an antivirus that the removal file was somehow no longer available...  In order to get a new antivirus I needed to removed the old one;
so I used a 3rd party uninstaller.  Once the PC tower bootup I got the blue screen of death.  PC does not have a DVD so I setup a USB with the windows files to go into repair, which it did some staff because the blue screen is now different.
So the OS is not loading!  I thought then I can do an in-place upgrade of the same OS, but I am getting an error that "The computer started using the Windows installation disc. Remove the installation disc and restart your computer so that Windows
starts normally. Then, then..... "  Not very good since that is my problem, my computer will not restart normally!F8 is non functional, so I cannot try  1. Last Good Know Configuration 2. Safe Mode 3. System Recovery Options

With the System Recovery and the the startup repair I get the following message :

Hi all,

I did clean install because my Asus UX32A keep going into Startup Repair mode but was unable to determine problem and find solution. I also had black screen at the logging screen. Prior clean install I've tried system restore, last good configuration etc did not work.

During the clean install, I had to update BIOS due to the windows7 installation unable to read driver despite numeruous attempts to solve this. I have UEFI BIOS and have follow this forum UEFI clean install guideline.

I still have the black screen problem after the clean install but prevx fix seems to fix this so far. However, my laptop start restarting into Startup Repair again and cant fix the problem.

Hi Guys,

I have a major problem which I need help with,

Usually I can resolve most issues myself but this one appears to have stumped me so I am graciously turning to you in my time of need.

I am unable to boot Windows 7 on my Acer Ferrari One F0200 netbook. It has Windows 7 home premium 64-bit installed but due to an unknown problem or possibly persistent virus I have been unable to boot into windows. I have tried pretty much all I can think of save reformatting at this point as that is truly my last resort and wondered if you had some further suggestions.

below is a list of things i've tried up til now:

Tried to boot in all safe mode options (failed)
Tried to boot from last known good configuration(failed)
Tried to system restore from all available restore points (failed)
Tried multiple Startup Repairs(all failed)

Hello everyone, I could really use some assistance with a PC problem I'm having (Win 7, 64 bit pro if it matters). I think it is a malware issue after several hours of trying to diagnosis and solve the problem. Friday, I was using my computer as normal (basic web use, social media etc.). Saturday I attempted to turn on my pc and I got a black screen with a cursor, but never got the blue welcome screen and the pc restarted. I attempted startup repair several times and the error says startup repair offline. I can't get into safe mode, nothing. I keep getting the black screen with the cursor and then it auto restarts itself. I tried 2 use 2 restore points and then the rest of them got wiped out (not sure why, perhaps the malware). After several frustrating hours of searching online Sat., I turned to a friend who assisted me today for about 5 hours. He found an old thread on this forum for what seems to be a similar problem. He took me through the steps. Here is the thread: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/448339/windows-failed-to-start-system-repair-cant-discover-problem/ We followed JSntgRvr's instructions and in his 2nd response in the thread, we got all the way to the step before this: "Boot in Normal Mode. If able to do so, please run Combofix as follows:" We couldn't get my desktop to boot in normal mode, so could go no further. Below, I'll post the list of the report. Friend of mine gave me her Acer Aspire 5742z-4813 because it fails to boot and eventually asks to repair, which it doesn't. Can't enter safe-mode, either.

Only thing she's said is that her daughter installed Norton 360 a few days before it crashed.

Things I've tried:

At command prompt, ran the following with no effect: bootrec.exe /FixMbr, bootrec.exe /FixBoot, bootrec.exe /RebuildBcd, chkdsk /f E:, and finally chkskd /f /r /x.

I also entered BIOS and changed HDD mode to IDE from ACHI. No joy.

Thanks in advance, guys.

Hi, everyone.

Today, after restarting my computer, I was faced with the Startup Repair tool, unable to boot Windows 7.
A couple hours later, after running startup tool a total of 29 times I have been unable to solve the problem.

Even just knowing how I can extract my files so that I can re-install windows would be a big help.

I just finished reading this thread http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f217/cannot-boot-windows-startup-repair-cannot-repair-this-computer-automatically-663898.html as I'm having the same issue. Here's a brief history.

My computer was built by me and has been fine up until a few days ago after I removed some USB cables for devices that I then hooked up to another PC I have and reconfigured some USB devices as a powered hub I was using would not let them be recognized by Windows. When I opened the Attached Devices window to see if my devices were now recognized it took forever to open with the blue bar at the top never getting to the end. I Googled the problem and found that Bluetooth was may be causing the issues and to disable it. That didn't fix the issue so I tried other recommended fixes such as disabling printspool -- none worked.
I then started having the Cannot Boot problems so I let Windows try and fix it which it could not. I tried to let it restore from a previous good point but that failed and I would click Send Report and then it would shut down. This kept happening for several days until I came across the aforementioned thread here on the forum.
Last night I turned off the power and went to bed. This morning I switched on the PC and let it boot up. Lo and behold WIN7 started right up no problems -- the Attached devices window opened right up as well. Then I saw that it was loading drivers for 3 attached devices -- all USB devices and one r... For some reason my PC doesn't seem to want to load windows 7. I've had no problems until today, the only things i have changed is that I installed Bioshock 2, after I installed it my PC stopped reading DVDs yesterday (until I reset it, then continued to work normally). For some reason when I turned it on this morning it went into startup repair and said the Event Name: StartupRepairOffline.

I have tried using system restore to 3 different points (2 of them before Bioshock 2 was installed and 1 being system restore point from yesterday). After I do any of them the computer restarts then does exactly the same thing again saying that I have don't system restore at all (as the 3 restore options are still available)

Can someone please help me with this as I have lots of documents on my PC I need to access.

Thanks,
Paul

Hi lordkbob and Welcome to TSF,

When you're saying your computer crashed, did it result in a bluescreen?
The offline system repair rarely works in my experience, it's either fix the issue with Safemode or the installation DVD repair option.

If you can boot into safemode (Press F8 during startup)
1.
Boot up with Safemode without networking.
Go to Start > Search > type "cmd".
Rightclick cmd.exe > Choose "Run as administrator".
Type in the following command and hit ENTER:
sfc /scannow
Repair any faults that comes up.

2.
Try restoring to a previously known working restore point.
Go to Start > Search > type "rstrui" > Hit ENTER.

If you can't boot into Safemode
Run the System Repair from the Windows installation DVD.
If problem still persists, make a proper backup of important files and do a clean install of Windows.

I already run the memory check but i get nothing, I format the hard disk drive in an other pc and put it back but nothing...

Any ideas what I must do to repair the problem?

A:Startup Repair Offline problem

Well...if you formatted the hard drive...then a startup repair would be impossible, since there would be no files on the drive.

Am I missing something?
