Can't connect to a certain secured wifi after upgrading to Win 10

Q: Can't connect to a certain secured wifi after upgrading to Win 10

Hey there, I need a laptop for my studies - that's why I looked for my HP 650 Laptop I used three years ago. First thing I did was upgrading to Windows 10. I didn't have any problems doing that at home connected to my home wifi. When I'm at school there are two wifi networks: one secured wifi and one unsecured wifi. If you connect to the unsecured one a log in browser window pops up asking for a username and password. When connecting to the secured one the credentials are the exact same ones. BUT: I don't have any problems connecting to the unsecured one. Problems occur when I try to connect to the secured (faster) one. This morning I was able to use the secured one. After 2 or 3 hours I was kicked out and ever since I am not able to reconnect to the secured one. The latest drivers for the network adapter are installed. I also tried adding the network manually. I unchecked "Varify the server's identity by validating the certificate". Now I am asked to put in my username and password in a system window - but it doesn't go through and I am asked over and over again without any established connection. Any ideas what to do?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I am using pre-installed Windows 7 on Toshiba L510-432 notebook and I have problem in connecting to wifi network. There is intermittent connection should I on unsecured wifi network but worse is when connecting to secured wifi network where normally the message is 'mismatched key'. Upon trying many times, it gets connected but to 'Limited Access - No Network Access'. This happens every time connecting to secured wifi connection.

Using Realtek RTL8187B adapter. I have updated Windows 7 and have also updated Realtek driver.

How to solve this problem?

Hey Guys,

My WiFi started acting strangely lately, right after a "technician" messed with it and now I can't connect to ANY secured wireless networks (including my own!), however when I try to connect to unsecured wireless networks, they do work. *I AM able to connect to these same networks via ethernet cable.* I have secured networks at home and at work, both of which I know the passwords for, both of which used to work wirelessly everyday and now they do not.

When I try to connect to a secured network I get this error message every time: "Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks, and try to connect again." I have tried many times to no avail.

Although I get this error message, I know for a fact that I am definitely within the range of the wireless signal; I used other laptops and smartphones to connect to the networks just to make sure.

Please help if you know what can be causing this, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

A:WiFi Problem Can't connect to secured networks

Does your Wireless adapter use a different utility to monitor wireless networks other then the Windows Utility? There may be another icon in the System Tray in the lower right hand corner that is disabled. Usually right clicking this icon and enabling it should work. Or you may need to find it in the All Programs list to start it. There should be a section where you can edit the saved password for your wireless adapter and once that is removed, you can retype the password for the secured wireless network you are trying to connect to.

so what i want to do is be able to go on the internet on my phone/ipod etc using one of my schools wifi networks. my high school has 3 different wifi networks, but the all 3 of them are secured, and require a password to connect to, and none of us [students] know the password. [i assume] these wifi networks are mainly used for the school's computers, and i was thinking maybe there was some kind of way i can find the password(s) using one of these computers.

obviously though the student do not have administrative privileges, but i DID happen to find a way to access the command prompt (using a .bat file). and im sure that there has to be some kind of way i can use the commands to show me the wifi password, but i have no idea what the commands i would need to enter are. if anyone knows how to do this PLEASE tell me, i would be really happy even if i am taking the risk of possibly getting suspended if they found out o.o..

A:accessing my school's secured wifi network

Your schools wifi is secure for a reason and if you want the password ask for it. I doubt anyone here will advise you on how to HACK it since it is probably illegal to do so.

Hi,

I have issues when I try to secure my wireless internet connection and then connect to it. I can connect only when the connection is unsecured. When I secure it, WEP, WPA, WPA2 whatever I am unable to connect. Other computers in my household however ARE able to connect when it is secured.

So I know it's not the router. I thought it was my wireless adapter on my laptop so I then purchased a new adapter and still had the same issue. So im concluding it has something to do with some IP setting/configuration what have you on my current machine? Hello all,

I use an Acer Aspire V7 581PG which is around 3 years old and had constant WiFi problems, though manageable until now.

I usually use a Huawei O2 dongle for work because my home WiFi doesn't reach to my studio.

Its a USB dongle that I leave plugged in most of the time, but when I go downstairs it connects to our home WiFi.

Earlier I was downstairs using the home WiFi, shut the lid, and later took it upstairs to connect to the dongle, but now I am getting 'secured, no internet' when attempting to connect.
I have attempted to connect to my Huawei dongle, my home Sky Router WiFi, my phone hotspot, hardwiring ethernet to the Sky Router and at another house's BT Homehub 5 and the issue is still the same.

Trying to fix it I have attempted:

Uninstalled the WiFi adapter and restarted with scan for hardware changes. (Qualcomm Atheros AR5BWB222)Netsh commands (with a restart following)ip config releaseip config start (didn't work at all)ip config stop (when doing this it failed and mentioned something about no media connected?)Disabling Bluetooth modules

Entering a static iPv4 address and Google DNS addresses show 'Connected - Secured' but no pages load nor does pinging microsoft.com (4 packets sent, 0 received, 100% loss)

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Hello,

I have a Toshiba Satellite Laptop with an Atheros Wireless adapter and windows xp. I can connect to unsecured networks just fine. I'm on one now. But, I can't connect to the secured network in my house. My roommate can connect to it fine, so its not the router. Also, I do not have access to the router, so I can not get into it, reset it, change it, or anything. But, it works fine for the other systems in the house. Until recently I couldn't connect wirelessly at all, it would connect, and say connected, but no internet. Googling around, I was able to fix that, but like I said, I can only connect to the unsecured network. I definitely have the correct key. It hangs on "Acquiring Network Address" then goes to limited or no connectivity. here is my ipconfig:

Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection:

Autoconfiguration IP Address......:169.254.185.99
Subnet Mask...........................: 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway......................: 169.254.185.99

I have tried numerous solutions offered at forums, which I cant recall, but if its really basic i've probably tried it.

So, in short:

-I'm currently connected to unsecured network
-Will not connect to secured network- stuck on "Acquriing Network Address"
-other computers connect to secured network just fine

Hi all, I'm having a problem with the wireless connection at our house that I can't resolve by googling or basic know-how.

We recently renamed our wireless connection and gave it a network key. There are two computers using the network and since securing it neither computer has had difficulty connecting to the internet. Today, my computer stopped connecting to the secured network. Upon running network diagnostics I was told the network key on my computer does not match the network key on the router. I rebooted my computer, I reset the router (unplugged the router, waited one full minute, plugged it back in), and am still having this difficulty.

The network key has not changed, and the other computer using the wireless network is connecting without any difficulty at all. I cannot connect to the network. We have not changed any settings and there hasn't been any contact with the router except for when I tried to restart it. I attempted to run system restore in case a recent Windows Update caused the trouble, which didn't do anything. I have turned Windows Firewall on and off to see if either setting made a difference, which it did not. I'm running out of things to guess at to try to change or fix to get on the network.

My computer is a Compaq v6000 laptop, running Windows XP SPIII (I think). I am able to connect to other available (unsecured) networks, so I know my wireless is working fine.

Does anybody else have any ideas to what I can try so I can... Read more

I'm having the same problem as another user Baduga whose thread is copied below. I did download the driver version 5.60.48.31 for the Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN device which was released February 03, 2010. However, when I try to connect to a secured wireless network it seems to see the router, but just spins and spins with the message "acquiring network address" and it never actually connects.

Baduga, below, also had this problem once the drivers were updated. He reported the fix was by following the instructions on HP customer service page that flavallee linked earlier. It turns out my password was missing from the association page of the wireless network connection.

Can someone give that link again, and be explicit about what you have to do to get to the association page of the wireless network connection, and exactly which password needs to be entered there/

Hi

For 2 days now I have battled this problem and have had no joy.

I can connect to unsecured networks fine but when I try to connect to a secured network I fail, ipconfig/all shows the media as disconnected even though it isn't and if I try to connect again to an unsecured network it works fine.

If I use a cable straight into the access point everything works fine. 2 other laptops in the house work fine as well.

I have an HP pavilion laptop zd8000 (zd8007ea to be precise) running XP. I am using a wireless usb dongle which is a kcorp kls-685.

I have posted the ipconfig/all text below. I have the password for the secured network, this problem has happened in various locations and my laptop is the only common denominator, I am sure it is to blame.

Many thanks for your help.

Hi I'm hoping someone on here can help.
I'll try and keep this brief, we were having problems with our netgear router (DGN1000) mainly with connection when online gaming with PS3, generally poor connection - so purchased a TP-Link router (TD-W8960N). We could usually access the netgear wirelessly on our laptops Dell and Acer Aspire 4820T (both Windows 7) without any problems and were still doing so last night. However hubby attempted to install the new router last night and all seemed to go fine but after installing we couldn't connect to the wireless network through laptops, iphone ps3 etc - even though we could see the network with excellent strength, after hours of trying called TP-Link they went through everything they could think of and still no joy. Gave up in the end and went to reinstall the netgear Router and now we have the same problem with this router, even though earlier in the night it wasn't a problem - we deleted the previous networks so there was nothing stored in memory & tried everything we can think of (although neither of us are brilliant with IT we do usually get by).
We even set up an unsecured wireless network (on both routers) and still couldn't connect - any advice would be greatly received - many thanks

My friend gave me his laptop to diagnose. It's an Acer 5315 with an Atheros AR5BXB63 wireless card inside. He is running Vista Basic. It will connect to my network if I make it unsecure, but as soon as I enable WEP or WPA it won't connect. It sees the SSID and attempts to connect, but Windows just gives a message saying it can't connect. I bought a Sony Atheros AR5BXB63 on eBay to see if it would work, but I get the same results.

I installed Windows 7 on the laptop to test it and it wouldn't connect at all, whether it was unsecured or not. I went to another friend's house and removed the internal wireless card from his HP laptop and stuck it in this Acer 5315 and it worked. It was an Intel Wireless-N card.

The friend who owns this Acer laptop said it just stopped working one day. It's weird that neither of the Atheros cards work, but the Intel did. I'm thinking it's some kind of driver issue with the hardware and maybe my friend's driver got updated during an Automatic Update.

I plan to order the Intel 512AN_MMWW2 and stick it in the Acer and hope it works. Any ideas on why the Atheros cards didn't work other than a driver issue?

When I try to plug my laptop into the router via ethernet cord (in order to login to router and setup secure network) my computer will not recognize the router and won't connect to internet. I tried troubleshooting with my cable provider and they say it's in my computer (IP address will not reset) and he recommended I replace my network card. Are those in the waiting room to be allowed into OR forbidden access to your Lan systems?

You already have

to Isolate the W.R from your lan, connect

Code:

modem---router----your.lan.systems (assumed 192.168.1.x or 0.x)

Okay, so my desktop is connected to the network by wifi to the wireless N (plus B and G) router. It connects to the internet fine and dandy. My iPhone can connect to the router, but drops the wifi signal most of the time. It doesn't seem to want to hold the connection because of either distance or interference from the wall or whatever.

What I want is to connect the iPhone's wifi to the computer for a stronger connection. But I don't want to move the router because it's centrally located and my office is kinda further away from it.

Equipment:
1 computer
1 802.11n wireless USB adapter connected to computer
1 802.11g wireless PCI adapter connected to computer
1 802.11n router connected to internet
1 iPhone with 802.11b/g connectivity
Is it possible to do this? I know what people have done it with one wired connection and a wireless connection from the computer. But can it be done with TWO wireless adapters connected to the computer?

Thanks in advance for any replies....

PS...I know it'd be easier to just use the computer to browse the internet since I'd be in the office anyway...but I work as a 3D modeler and alot of times I'm testing renders for scenes and such and can't stop the render without losing the progress. If I browse while it's rendering, it's possible I can crash the computer because of the heavy resources the 3D engine is already using.

A:Possible to connect iPhone's wifi to computer that is connected by wifi to the net?

Doesn't hurt (except maybe your time) to try. Get an ad-hoc wireless network working between computer and iPhone (using dynamic addressing). Then in Network Connections bridge the two wireless connections.

If it doesn't work, show the following for the computer before you bridge and when you have the bridge.

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Hi there @Dee85 Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that you are having troubles with connecting to your home network; I am happy to help. Have you tried connecting to a different network with this notebook?Does the wifi (available connections) show up on your notebook at all?Have you tried resetting your wireless router? The error you are getting sounds like the router is not passing on a local IP address to your notebook. The problem could be on either side of that. Try working through these.Troubleshooting wireless network and Internet (Windows 8)Also, you can look at the power management for your wireless adapter:Disable the Power Off option for the adapter:1. Hi there,

I have a new problem that has just cropped up today. I am no longer able to connect to public wifi or my phone's wireless hotspot. My laptop either will not connect or connect with limited access. It has connected without issue in the past and as soon as I returned home it connected to my wifi here.

What I did notice is I am connected to an unidentified network with no internet access in addition to my home wireless network:
Specs:
Acer Aspire S7 392
Windows 8.1 64 bit
Intel Dual Band Wireless 7260 (driver updated)
Disabled my firewall and antivirus

I just connected to my phone's hotspot again and here is what I am coming up with:
Attachment 57082

And when I run ipconfig/renew
Attachment 57083

Any ideas what could be causing this?

A:Can only connect to home wifi - no public/hotspot wifi

What Internet Security software are you using? Are you using any third party software to manage network connections?

Wifi doesn't connect when i move away from wifi router. I have a wifi router installed in my drawing room where i get good browsing speed on phones and laptops. But the problem starts when i take my laptop from drawing room to my bedroom which is not more than 5 mtrs from router. Wifi signal drops to zero on laptop whereas it remains decent on phones. Earlier my laptop used to connect in bedroom as well..This is happening lately. Is there any solution?

I am ready to give up on HP AND Windows 7.  My laptop worked fine until a week ago - did all - reset router, plugged HP 15 laptop into router....wireless has stopped working - low signal sometimes if I spend hours removing and reinstalling, etc.

Reinstalled network adapter - have Kaspersky 2017 - tried turning it off.  Using Windows Firewall - tried turning off.

Keeps saying network adapter has invalid IP config.  Laptop of my husband next to mine is working fine!  Same settings.

Have done EVERYTHING.....running HP Network Diagnostics....same errors - problem w/wireless adapter or access point and "wireless connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration.

Previously I used to see my neighbors wifi network names in the bar at the bottom where the wireless strength shows.  Now only see my computer/homegroup (which I also deleted and reset umpteen times)....is this a clue?

Thank you.

Hi,My brand new Yoga 720-15 IKB doesn't connect to my workplace wifi network which is a Mikrotik network. It does though connect to my home network or a mobile hotspot and works fine with them. I have installed all Windows 10 updates and Lenovo Companion updates. I have manually updated wifi card driver, I have also tried deleting network card and installing it again - but no success. Still doesn't connect to this one particular network in my workplace. To make it stranger my coworker has the same brand new Yoga 720, the only difference is that mine Yoga is grey and his is platinium color. We discovered also that two, supposedly the same computers  have different network cards (he has Intel, I have Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4A. This is a bit weird).I have also found out his Yoga connects easily to VPN at our workplace, my doesn't.Any ideas how to solve it? EDIT: my current network card driver is 12.0.0.295

I'm a new Plusnet customer and I cannot connect to the internet using wifi I just get a page saying the broadband is down. So I tried using an ethernet cable and after manually setting this up I can use the internet. I accidentally disconnected the cable yesterday but the internet didn't fault, it's now working wirelessly. I can connect to the wifi using my mobile and iPad but I cannot connect to the internet. A new router has been sent and the problem still persists, a bt engineer has also visited but cannot find a solution.

Can anybody please help me?

A:I can't connect to wifi but connect with an Ethernet cable works, even when it isn't plugged in

It gets confusing as to which device is being used so as a guideline
disable one or the other (wifi vs wired) and don't allow both to be active at the same time. Technically, which ever device gets an IP address from your router will become the gateway to your ISP - - ignoring the connectivity of the second device to access your router.

With a laptop, we just toggle the keyboard to enable/disable wifi and the wired is easy - - just pull the cable out.

create a desktop shortcut to \windows\system32\devmgmt.msc
to control the devices (needs admin access)
expand [+] network adapters and you'll see the list
mine are

Dell Wireless 1502 ....
Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller
Just right-click->disable and you can always right-click->enable

The png posted shows both are enabled and the wired has the gateway.
If the cable is disconnected, this is quite impossible.

SO, first control which device is to be used and then make the connection.

Hi, My lenovo laptop, which I have used for 3 years, suddenly had a problem connecting to my house's high speed wifi. Other devices are able to connect to my home wifi but my laptop has intermittent and slow connection to the wifi, sometimes my laptop cannot even detect my house wifi and the signal is usually 0 bars even though I am very near my wifi modem. I have tried restarting my wifi card and reseting the saved networks but the problem still persists. Would be great if anyone has a solution. Thank You.

This is the idea, I have DVR for CCTV and I need to configure it for port forwarding, and since it has only LAN connection it is not possible to connect in pocket wifi, so i used to have a wireless router since it has a LAN connection. But I do not know how to do this connection as the wireless router to be a bridge in my pocket wifi to DVR, Anyone know how to do this? Thanks!

A:How to connect pocket wifi to wireless router, to connect the dvr for cctv?

I'm not at all sure I understand. Are you trying to use the wireless router as a Wireless Bridge (to connect to the pocket wifi via wireless and the DVR via ethernet)? If so, does the router have wireless bridge (or AP Client) mode?

Hi All,

Win8:
I have two wifi APs in the home and I have it all set up so that one is the Internet by cell phone tether and the other is the cabled network via the router wifi.

Works just fine - except.

On wifi 1, Internet I have it set for "Connect automatically" which at boot up it does.

On wifi 2, Network I also have it set for "Connect automatically" which at boot up it does NOT do. I have to go in and connect manually even though the "Connect automatically" is checked.

It seems win8 sees "Connect automatically"and does it but then stops checking other connections. Probably a "feature."

Is there some way to force both "Connect automatically" to happen?

Thanks

A:Wifi Auto-Connect to two-wifi APs, problem

There is a group policy setting for this, but even if both are connected you will only be using one of those connections at a time.

I am totally disappointed with Asus. The problem remains unresolved after almost more than 2 years.

I hv tried all the methods mentioned at :

http://support.asus.com/Troubleshoo...en&p=3&m=A43SD&s=310&hashedid=n/a&os=&no=1773

I really regret why I purchased Asus at first place. The experience has been so much frustrating and waste of money, time and energy.

DEAR ASUS YOU SHOULD NOT BE MAKING/ SELLING A PRODUCT OF SUCH AN INFERIOR QUALITY".

TOTALLY RIDICULOUS & DISGUSTING.
