HDMI Audio stopped working

Q: HDMI Audio stopped working

so I have a dell xps1530 with vista. awhile ago i used my laptops hdmi to my tv, the sound and everything worked fine. for some reason now i can't get the sound to default over to it. i know how to usually do it but when i hit make hdmi default audio nothing happens. the kicker is that when i hit 'test' on the hdmi the audio works through the tv, so the cord works and everything, my computer just won't let it become the default. i attached a hijack log if it helps

Preferred Solution: HDMI Audio stopped working

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

i have a nice little set up with an HDMI plug near my vista laptop that connects to my HD TV some 30 feet away. this way i don't have to tote my laptop to the TV when i want to stream internet video. i set it all up about a month ago and everything worked fine until yesterday. now when i plug in my HDMI cable to my laptop and switch my video source over to PC on my TV it doesn't detect any video. i know that the connection is solid because when i unplug the HDMI cable from my laptop the option to switch to the PC source on the TV goes away. i recently updated vista with some "required" update but don't know what it was or how to resolve this. any suggestions?

A:HDMI out stopped working

You could do a restore to before the update. This ill remove the updates and you can find out if its due to that.

I'd try a second hdmi cable to eliminate the cable. Being that long it may have been damaged.

3rd, update your video drivers.

Hope something easy fixes it.

Hello,The hdmi for the extended monitor stopped working. The proposed solution is to update the thunderbold driver but the driver is not there. See link belowhttps://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/solutions/sf16-t0051What should I do? Is there a fix as I need the HDMI port working. I'm very surprised to see this issue for such an expensive laptop. My HDMI has stopped working, I was told to download all updates and I think I have done this... I visited HP.co.uk and dowloaded all updates after it identified my computer, but nothing appears to have changed. Any help greatly appreciated.

Clive235 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!Anytime someone comes here running Win10 and complains about something suddenly not working, I immediately suspect Windows Driver updates.Unfortunately, Win10 automatically forces driver updates on all of us, without our knowledge, and without our permission -- and when this happens, a working PC is suddenly "broken".  This might have happened to you.You need to go into Settings, Update & Security --> Windows Update. Then, choose Advanced Options --> History to see when updates were last applied.  If you see any that include device drivers, those could be the problem. So, if you can, you should see if you can rollback the drivers that are causing the problem.  You do this by going into Device Manager, seeing if the appropriate device is still listed, and if so, trying to rollback the last driver update. And if that fixes the problem, then consider disabling future driver updates using the information in the link:  http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/48277-driver-updates-windows-update-enable-disable-windows-10-a.h...Good Luck========================================================================I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.---------------------------------------------------------------If my posts helped you, please click the Thumbs-Up symbol on my post to say thanks. If my posts solved your problem please click "Accept As Solution".========================... Hi. A few weeks ago my Z70-80's HDMI port randomly stopped working, no intermittence, no warning, just stopped. It was fine in the morning, working as intended. I then had to run some errands so I shut my laptop down. I came back a few hours later tried to project to second screen but nothing. Thinking it was software and/or driver related I've tried everything from rolling back windows 10 to updating GPU drivers, even the chipset got an update. Can a HDMI port just randomly stop working like that? VGA out is fine, just not the HDMI. If anyone has any ideas I might be able to try.... Thanks all.

A:Z70-80 HDMI out stopped working

I'm sorry I should have included some of the other things I've tried, save wasting everyone's time. I've tried a different HDMI Cable, different TV, updated Windows 10, even joined the insider program in the hope a beta version of windows 10 might fix it. But n luck with anything. Strangely though my tv will detect a hdmi source but displays 'No signal' it's frustrating

Hi, my computer has stopped showing any signs of connection when plugged into my television. This is a major problem for me because I use my tv as a monitor. It was working perfectly fine, and has been for months, before I moved. Now I set everything up and it won't work. I tried using a different tv and a different hdmi cord to see if that was the issue but it still won't work. The tower wasn't damaged or at risk of being damaged in the move, I was very careful about that, so I'm not sure what's the problem. Thanks for any help you can offer me.

Long story short .... I have an LG 37 inch TV with 3 devices connected via 3 HDMI cables and 3 HDMI ports.

PC tower with Windows 7

PS3 Console

Verizon HD box
For months all three worked and I could switch back and forth without issue.

All of the sudden only the PC tower displays.

The PC tower is the only thing that displays on any port with any cable. The PS3 and TV give no display.
Any ideas would be great.

I have a duel monitor setup where one was plugged into HDMI and the other into VGA. Both were running off of my NVIDIA graphics card (i also have Intel 4000 Graphics which came with my processor but is not in use).
When playing a game - my HDMI monitor just shut off. My VGA continuing to work.
I have tried many things such as reinstalling drivers but nothing has seemed to work. My Intel 4000 Graphics are failing to work also. I am yet to look inside of my PC to see if anything has moved out of place.
I've tried googling and I've found nothing of use. If anyone has a solution that would be great! - P.S I'm new to the forums

I have a Toshiba Satellite A305-S6898 laptop with Windows Vista (64 bit). For two years, I have watched movies on my TV via the HDMI connection. Recently, this stopped working (I had not installed anything new or updated the computer). The HDMI cable is definitely still good. My laptop could not connect with the external display. I tried everything I could think of including making sure the drivers were up to date (they were) and the handy reboot method. Nothing worked until I went into the device manager, right clicked on the graphics card and uninstalled and reinstalled it. Using this method, I got it to connect again for a couple of days, though I had to uninstall and reinstall every time to make it work. This has stopped working now too though. I am at a loss. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

My Acer ES1-111M HDMI has stopped working. It was working perfect until about a week ago. I believe it's due to a resent Windows 10 update. HDMI doesn't show anywhere in Device Manager. I tried going back to Windows 8.1 , but it didn't help. I reinstalled Windows 10 Clean Install and still no HDMI output. When I plug into my TV my TV detects a HDMI device has been connected but just flashes No Signal. I have tried every driver available including the test drivers from Intel.Almost 2 years ago I bought this to replace my HP laptop that had the exact same problem. When this happened on this Acer notebook I connected my HP to the TV Via the VGA/RGB cable. Now this Is where it gets weird. I got the HP connected and working with the RGB cable and out of curiosity I connected the HDMI cable to the HP and it made that happy noise saying it found the new device and for some reason started working. Since, I have read on the web that when this happens connecting the VGA cable first then the HDMI cable will force the PC to detect a non working port on the HDMI. Or possibly over the 2 years I've had this HP it received an update that restored the HDMI functionality. Problem is I can't test that theory on this ES1-111M because it only has a single HDMI output. I see this problem all over the web and wonder how many people don,t even know there HDMI port is dead because they never use it.

I'm sorry, I'm somewhat technologically impaired. I've been connecting my tv to my laptop via HDMI cable for several years and it's always worked fine. Today when I tried, the screens just turned back. My TV stopped saying no signal as if it recognized the computer, and the computer screen went black as if it were switching to the TV, but neither of them actually worked. I tried to go into my display settings to connect to a projector which I have had to select in the past, but it says no additional display was detected. When I tried to tell it to do it anyway, the laptop screen started turning on and off every few seconds so it was black, then back to my desktop, then black again.

The really wonky part is that when I tried starting up the computer with the HDMI cable already attached, it showed the windows startup and password screens on the TV as if it were working properly--but as soon as it loaded up the desktop it started turning the screen on and off again until I disconnected the HDMI.

I haven't changed any settings on my computer recently--the only new thing I've installed are some games off Steam. Something crazy's going on with my computer that has never happened before, could someone please help?

PS: This image should have the info for my computer please let me know if you need any other information

A:laptop HDMI to tv stopped working

Verify the screen resolution and refresh rate.

Aside from that, try manually updating or reinstalling the laptop video drivers. The drivers should be available from the laptop manufacturers website (and are the only recommended drivers which should be used).

Hi,  I have a lenovo thinkpad s430 with win 7 - 64bit. I've been using a mini-hdmi to VGA adapter for an old samsung screen for a couple of months with no problems. However yesterday it stopped working. Tried a mini-hdmi cable to a different screen which didn't work either.  It is like the mini-hdmi port is just dead. I haven't updated any drivers or installing anything new recently. Tried restarting computer and screens, no results.  Any suggestions?  Best regards,Lauge

I've been running my xbox through this PC for months now and I havent had any problems, although I do need to bring up HP My Display in order for the hdmi to work correctly. I tried to connect my xbox one to the computer as usual last night but this time it said 'no signal'. I have checked to see if other hdmi cables would work (they do not) and I have tried the hdmi cable usually used for the PC on the TV and my xbox connects fine. I don't know of any recent update that may have caused something to go wrong, I can't get it to work.

I have been using my HDMI port just fine between my home and work PC's. This week turned my laptop on at home and it didnt send a signal to the monitor. In device manager both the Intel Graphics 630 and the NVIDIA GFORCE GTX1050 are enabled in correctly. Windows, DELL and Nvidia drivers are up to date. The only thing i havent tried is restoring windows to a restore point from last week when it was working. Any suggestions if the restore does not work I'm sending this laptop back. It was expensive and I expect it to work accordingly.

I searched many threads with similar titles but could not find a usable answer. I hope this post will have better luck.
My PC is connected from the graphics card to a Full HD TV via HDMI. This worked beautifully for 7 months with great video and audio via HDMI. Unfortunately it stopped working. The TV's HDMI ports and the cables work fine with other devices. On the PC I installed a new motherboard and reinstalled Windows. This is all working fine on a friend's display, including the DP connection from the graphics card. Sadly, however, the PC graphics card to TV HDMI connection is still not producing any picture or sound; not even the BIOS screen. The TV recognizes when the cable is attached (no cable vs. no signal messages) but no picture or sound results.

Some specs:
TV: Samsung UE32EH6030W
PC's OS Windows7 Pro - 74bit
Graphics card 1GB MSI Radeon HD 7770
Motherboard Asus H61MC
Processor Intel Pentium G850, Socket 1155, Dual Core, 2.90GHz

A:PC to Full HD TV via HDMI Stopped Working

I'm confused, did you replace the motherboard or the graphics card? If you are using a dedicated graphics card the motherboard would have little to nothing to do with outputting HDMI when a dedicated graphics card is installed. Does the second monitor show up in the AMD Catalyst Software? And even though the HDMI cable appears to work with another device, have you tried another HDMI cable?

I've had the Win 7 laptop for a few years, and it's worked faultlessly.
Now the HDMI port no longer works and seems completely dead, VGA port is ok. I've tried several HDMI cables and monitors / projectors. The laptop used to switch the screen off as soon as I plugged in a projector or monitor, that no longer happens, so it's not detecting the monitor or projector at all.
I've been trying to update the graphics drivers without success, I've tried two things:-
1. Went to Graphics device in Device Manager and pressed 'Update Driver', it told me my driver was up-to-date (even though its dated 2011)
2. I went to the Dell driver download page and downloaded the most recent Intel (R) Graphics Family driver (August 2012), but this unzipped to a GUI application that crashed.
So I'm a bit stuck, any help appreciated, thanks

sorry for starting a new thread but i have searched through so many and still not found a fix for my issue

I was watching a movie and sound worked perfectly fell asleep woke up the next morning and no sound through my tv connected via gainward gtx550ti HDMI port it still shows in playback devices and when i test it still shows sound is playing but nothing comes out of the speakers. i have tried every possible thing i can think of to fix it system recovery, update drivers, uninstall and re-installing drivers, using both hdmi cable and tv with a different device and using speakers with built in sound card so im thinking its my graphics card that has a problem but any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated

A:HDMI sound randomly stopped working

The HDMI is generated by the video card. If the HDMI is set as the default audio playback device and there is still no audio, its most likey a problem in the video card.

One thing you haven't tried, reseating the video card. Its a long shot but give it a try. Power off the PC before reseating (unplugging and plugging back in).

Please hope you can help! About a week ago the external monitor (connected through HDMI) stopped getting signal, when reinstalling the driver it started working again. Now it happened again, and I tried reinstalling again, but nothing. I have tried the cable/monitor and they work fine, its the computer/hdmi-port. I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware problem... The Intel Driver Update Utility doesn't help either, neither does Lenovo Solution Center. What to do, I'm desperate! Help is tremendously appreciated!! /Fredrik

Hi, I just got a new HP Envy x 360 in July 2016 and a new HP monitor 27es Display in mid-August.  It was connecting to the monitor by using HDMI fine till last week.  From a week ago (around Labor day), it stopped recognizing the monitor.I have an old HP laptop, and it is fine connecting to the the monitor by VGA.  So, it is not the monitor's issue.I remember I did the recommended HP update around the same time.  I am suspecting that update caused the issue with HDMI.  Can anyone help?  Thanks.

Up until the other day, I've been using my MSI Wind u230 netbook / Radeon HD 3200 to output to my monitor (Acer S243HL - only has 1x DVI and 2x HDMI inputs) and then occasionally swap to a Westinghouse 32" TV.

The other day: I was using my monitor then swapped to the tv, and then returned to my room to connect to the monitor and it just won't work. (To note, I've been using Win key + P to set projector only and to disconnect projector before unplugging the HDMI cable.)

The netbook screen will turn itself off (as if it detects the HDMI-out) but the screen or TV will just show "No signal."

I tried a shorter HDMI cable, tried the other input on the monitor, still nothing. Strangely enough, checking the displays in Catalyst or the Screen Resolution properties, it can detect both the TV and the monitor. There's just no signal coming out.

Even stranger: trying to connect another laptop to the monitor (which used to work) displays "No signal" too.

Now I'm confused. Could it be a software issue? Could I have broken an HDMI port somewhere that somehow broke the other two HDMI cables in turn? Help?

Hi, I use HDMI output to connect to my TV a lot. One day I was using it without issue, disconnected the cable to move the laptop and when I reconnected it didn't work. I tried using (Win + P) and another dedicated keyboard shortcut (Fn + F4) to chage the display, neither would restore the TV display. I can still connect to a projector using VGA and I know the TV and HDMI cable are still good because they both work with my Windows 8 laptop and bluray player.

I'm just not sure how to start troubleshooting. I don't see display ports in the device manager and the graphics card says "This device is working properly." So where do I go from here?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

A:HDMI out suddenly stopped working. Don't know how to troubleshoot.

Do some quick checks on the cable. First you can think about if you have bent the cable in any weard ways. If so that could have damaged the cable. You are NEVER supposed to fold a cable as it can break the small cables inside of it.

Secoundly have a look at the pin's on each side of the cable, Are any of them bent? If so this could be the cause.

HDMI port stopped working about a year ago. It had always worked on Windows 7 64-bit.  Also it worked on Windows 10 64-bit for quite some time.  I have HP Compaq PC with 3 TB HD with 2 new flat screen monitors each able to run as VGA or the
other way.  Had both monitors working fine.  Tried switching monitors, and everything else.  Plugged in, etc....,
I would like to simply download the correct drivers for the HDMI port, at leas for the monitor and graphics, install correctly, anin compatibility mode, I assume, and all I ask is that you please not lie to me and say I have to buy something. I'd appreciate
your expert help.  Everything works...need to install correct drivers in compatibility mode.  The correct ones.  In the correct places and know what to do if there is no "HD video, audio, and game controller" section, for example,
or "Graphics" section in device manager.

Thanx, Miguel

So ive encountered a recuring problem with my V110 laptop. The HDMI port on the computer is sometimes not working. Usually it takes a couple of hours each time to get it working again but im getting annoyed that this is a requrring problem. (general things ive done is make sure the HDMI ports on tv works, changed hdmi cable, changed computer ect to verify its a problem with the V110)Generally the HDMI port stops working after either windows updates, or software installs, however this time it did not work to roll back any updates or uninstall any programs. Ive disabeled and re-enabled graphics drivers, updated graphics drivers, rolled back a windows sequrity update that came into play 13th/14th of sep. 2017.Nothing shows up under display adapter in device manager, and ive tried many of the suggestion fixes on different forum posts to no solution.I'm fresh out of ideas. Anyone have any suggestions before i just reinstall windows in hope that no updates will screw over the HDMI port?

New to this forum. Hope you can help.

I have been using an external monitor (Samsung PX2370) with my Toshiba laptop (about 2 years old), connected via an HDMI cable. Up until today it has been working fine. This morning the audio stopped working. Now the laptop does not find the external monitor at all when connected via HDMI. I can connect fine with the VGA cable. I have tried a new HDMI cable but it doesn't help.

Any ideas would be most welcome

A:HDMI connection to second monitor has stopped working

Is there anything blocking the HDMI ports on the computer and the monitor? you may want to clean them with compressed air.

If that doesn't help try connecting the laptop to another monitor or TV via HDMI so you can determine if it is the HDMI on the computer or the monitor.

I have Lenovo Z70-80 laptop which had BIOS version ABCN32WW. I've decided to upgrade BIOS to the latest version (ABCN96WW) and the upgrade procedure went without problems. However, as soon as the restarted I've noticed it doesn't output anything on my external monitor connected via HDMI until it boots to Windows after which I get the picture on the monitor. I've tried to downgrade BIOS version to the oldest available version (ABCN73WW) but I still don't get HDMI output. At this point I'd just like to downgrade to the original BIOS version ABCN32WW but I can't find any downloadable file to do so and currently I'm stuck with no HDMI output until laptop gets booted to Windows which is really frustrating. Any help or suggestion would be highly appreciated.

I make music with my computer and therefore the onboard sound card that came with my motherboard is disabled and I've installed a dedicated sound card instead. The soundcard I work with is an M-Audio Delta Series 2496 Audiophile PCI card. I've been using this card without problems for about 5 years.

Today the card seems to have stopped working and I suspect it has something to do with recent stuff I've been doing with my computer.

Here is stuff I did prior to my soundcard's failure to work. I have no idea which if any of these things are related to the problem or not. I also have know idea at what stage the sound stopped working.

- a friend came with an mp3 player (Creative ZEN Jukebox). He had some data on it (using it as a kind of external hard drive) which he wanted to transfer to my computer.

- I downloaded/installed the latest driver and plugged it (via USB) to my computer. The computer recognized the device, but for some odd reason it did not show all the data. We tried several things including re-downloading and re-installing the driver and installing a media player app by Creative but nothing worked. I uninstalled the driver and the Creative app.

(at this stage I remember my audio was fine, because I listened to some music. This was the last time I attempted to use audio before first noticing the problem)

- I realized that when installing the Creative app I had without noticing installed some bundled software that scans for... Read more

I have a Portege R705 and for around 2 years I've had a setup with two samsung Syncmaster 2443 displays, one connected by VGA and 1 with a hdmi to dvi cable.

I've never experienced any problems until one of the screens could not detect a signal anymore. Neither monitor can detect the hdmi signal and both detect the VGA.

I have proceeded to purchase a hdmi to dvi adapter and connect the dvi cable that was delivered with the monitor to my screen but without success.

I'm pretty much out of ideas, has anyone experienced something similar or has anyone got any ideas on how to fix it?

many thanks,

It is somehow strange that you have noticed this problem for no reason.
Have you may changed anything, installed some additional software, update or anything that can be responsible for this?

When you test only one of these both monitor do you have this problems?
