Q: Nvidia gpu throttling at 67 degree celsius and makes games l...

Hello, I'm new here. For the past couple of months my laptop starts to throttle it's gpu at 67C, which is quite low. I have turned off hp coolsense and have selected high performance but no use as it's locked at 67C. The gpu is GT 740M 2gb DDR3. Nvidia control panel also is configured for best performance as well. Please help. Updating nvidia drivers don't help as well. I have updated the pc software from hp updates directly too, so I don't think it's due to bad updates. By the way I'm not sure if this throttling issue was there from beginning as I didn't use a monitoring application until I noticed the massive fps drop in games after a minute or so. Thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello there, firstly I apologize for my bad english it is not my native tongue.

Anyway I got a little(!) heating problem. Basicly, when I start oblivion(video game) and play for 10-15 minute my gfx card hits 140 degree(Celsius =S) and slowdowns itself. Problem started just 2 weeks ago, before that I were playing it without a single heating problem. Well I gotta say there is no way in hell a gfx card could hit 140 degree and still work, and no it didn't burn itself neither did it burn cables inside the computer. Problem eventually repeats itself, I'm a tech noob but I could say that either there is a problem in fan or there is a software problem.

So all I'm asking is that if there is a software problem how could I fix it? Or eventually is there a way to understand which kind of problem I got? Because gfx cards warranty went off just couple of months ago and most probably I'll buy a new card instead of paying money to repair it. Or I might consider buying a new fan for the geforce 6800, please share it if you people know a good fan.

P.S: I took a SS, even if there was no 3d application was running it was showing 75 degree o.O

Anyway already now thanks a lot for all helps =)

A:My gfx card hit 140 degree (Celsius that is...)

That picture shows your card at 70+ degrees, not 140. The threshold means that the temperature that shows there is where the card will basically blow up on you. Although 70C is pretty hot for any graphics card, my 8800 gtx doesnt even get that hot.

I have tried every possible solution to find out what the problem here is and am unable to find any way to fix it. I have maxed out all power settings in windows power manager (including advanced settings. I have maxed out everything to do with battery power in the bios settings. I have used throttlestop and disabled bd prochshot. Used nvidia inspector and evga to try and overclock them over. The GPU is specifically locked in at 457.3mHz on the battery, While plugged in, I can get the gpu to around 750mHz or about 830mHz if im overclocking. Does anyone else have this issue and know if this is a windows, driver, or bios problem. I am running my laptop off a 9 cell battery and I am certain that it would provide enough power to all the components. It is my belief that each lithium cell can safely discharge about 5 amps each which means that with a 3s3p setup, you will get about 10.8 volts at about 15 amps. With this configuration and using ohms law, I have found that the battery of this laptop is capable of providing about 162 watts of power to all the components. This is around the same power of the charger (170 watts) which is enough to power the computer at full speed and still have enough to charge the battery at the same time. I would Really appreciate a response and replies from people with the same problem.

I've been playing games on my new i5 6400 for around a year, after my PC had some issues, and I had to get a new processor. For that year, whenever I played any games, such as Overwatch, Rainbow 6 Siege or Paladins, my CPU would run at around 50-75% of the capacity. This kept my PC pretty cool, and the games ran fine on Medium to High for ages. Recently though, pretty much every game I play has been throttling my CPU and sometimes my GPU at 80-100%, most of the time being at 100%. I am scared of playing anything anymore because I don't want to ruin the PC or any of the parts because I am a student (Games Art) so I don't exactly have much money to use.

I've tried scanning my PC for any problems (malwarebytes), I've tried lowering the graphics settings of the Games I play, I've tried monitoring the Temperature of the CPU to see if It starts to Bottleneck, which it hasn't been doing.

If there's anything I can do to fix it, It would be greatly Appreciated.

ok, follow these easy steps to make aero work on your fx5200-based system

the wddm1.0 driver that DOES work with this card is the last forceware release that included the FX series, wich is the 96.85 release.

you can do a google search for it or download it from here:
FX 5200 Vista Driver - Software Driver Download

after installing this driver you will not see any new effects, so just go to the
"theme" settings and change the theme to any theme with 'aero' effects (I chose 'Architecture', you can choose another one), and VOILA!!, aero comes to win7 with your FX5200 card.

Hi,I have serious problem with my HP 8760W Elitebook.I have upgraded to Win10 and everything was OK, I was more satisfied as with Win7Pro. But first time after month and second time after 3 months win10 crashed to repair screen and nothing was possible to do only clear installation of win 7 with disk format.I use all new drivers and bios - F.62. So I decided to stay with Win7, but now I have problem with graphics (nvidia Quadro 4000M). When I install nvidia driver (I have tried several versions including 341.95) it needs restart and then I get black screen during start and sometimes blue screen and it restarts  again. Only thing that will help is to use F8, start windows in safe mode and remove nvidia driver. Then it  again automatically load standard vga graphics driver. It uses only 16MB of memory, allows to run in 1920x1080 mode, but nothing more. Windows experience index is 1 due to graphics. What can I do to start running my nvidia quadro 4000m? Thank you very much.

I have gotten this temporarily fixed by resetting windows 10 but then like a week later it'll come back and I have to reset windows again

Very interesting. Not being a developer myself I wonder if they would like this newer format or prefer the monthly tiers. Trying to remember if was a flat fee per month or it was a flat fee + royalties.

But it's great to know that the Unreal Engine will be more widely available to would-be developers.

Edit: Read the old article. Dropping the monthly fee for straight up royalties (same %) I think is a good move. Not that $20 a month was a drop in the bucket to begin with but at least now those that are interested have an easy stepping stone to get started without an investment.

Hello tech guys,

First off if this post is in the wrong section I apologize; I wasn't sure to place this in here or in a generic Windows 7 subsection. I'm open to suggestions and redirects where needed.
I'm facing a weird problem that I can't seem to solve. I can play all games without problems on my computer except when Adobe Flash is active. By active, I mean either a Youtube video is running in the background or a stream playing content.
Once Flash is active, it bogs down my fps from 60 fps silky smooth to 15-30 fps and choppy/rubberbanding feel in games. To be quite specific: if I happen to have a stream open that went offline the problem disappears; the MOMENT the streamer decides to come back on and resume streaming it bogs my computer back down and it feels like roughly Pentium IV level.
I could of course just not have any Flash content running while playing games, but that would be a) like throwing in the towel and b) a slap in the face of me and my $2000 system. Clearly something is up, but I can't pinpoint it. Is there a known problem with ATI's CCC / Flash / Firefox for the last 1-2 months? I'm aware Firefox (or Flash?) handles the sandbox thing different and has a seperate process now, but this problem has been around before they changed this.

Hello, just recently joined the forums, yay!

I'll tell you about my problem, if anyone could help I would really appreciate it.

My computer is from 2010 Custom made. It's been working like it should been for the last years while upgrading different parts for more demanding games. Everything except the motherboard and the CPU is upgraded.

I don't know exactly but 3 months + ago my computer suddenly started to freeze and sometimes make a buzzing sound. Mark my words, this only happens when I play computer games. I noticed the freezing when I were playing Rome Total War 2, after 15 - 30min the computer freezes and I need to force shutdown/restart. Then I stopped playing it for months and then I wanted to play the game again, and yet again it happend.

Today I bought and installed Civilization Beyond Earth and after 8-12min of gameplay the computer freezes. Don't know why this happen, but I thought my computer only freezed because Rome Total War 2 is such a big game and is demanding performance and my computer can't handle it. But when civilization is on 2-4GB well.. I don't know.

I have been following this case from 2012: PC Freezes and makes Buzzing Noise when Running Programs but no luck.

I think I have the exactly same problem, also tried to follow the steps but I must admit. It's a little to advanced for me. I also saw that this was suggested: Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions

well first thing which would be the simple way to go is to completely uninstall those 2 games using revo uninstaller which will not only uninstall the games; but also uninstall the windows registry entries windows puts in when something is installed. What that hopefully will do is sort of create a fresh clean slate on which to reinstall those games. here is the link to revo uninstaller:

Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems

download, install, and run it and select the 2 games; let it uninstall them; then reboot; then try reinstalling the games again. IF that does not do anything; the next thing i would do is take a look at how much ram your system has. Your system ideally should have at the very least 8gb ram to run games but i would reccomend 12gb as the more ram there is the better the system performance will be. if no results still; post back and we can go from there.

The problem started when I started getting 2 BSOD's several times, and they were Driver Power State Failure and DPC Watchdog Violation. This stopped happening when I completely uninstalled all nvidia products from control panel then installing the driver from nvidia geforce experience. Then when I tried to launch a game I keep getting errors such as "failed to initialise direct 3d" and "no compatible graphics hardware found" depending on the game. And on occasion I'd get a "display driver has stopped responding and has recovered. So I try disabling the intel GPU to run the nvidia only and it didn't solve anything, all games run at like 5 fps. So it seems like the problem is that the nvidia GPU just won't work no matter how many times I reinstall with different older versions ,even the one from the lenovo website. From the dxdiag the direct3d acceleration is not available although I'm not sure if that's relevant.

Hello all!

I have recently installed a new video card in my laptop, an NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800. I HAD an ATI Radeon X300 Mobility (which worked fine) and I wanted a little more power.

I removed all previous drivers correctly, using uninstall, then drivercleaner, etc.

What happens is this: When I am in Windows doing normal things (web surfing, email, etc.) the screen will freeze for a few seconds, then go black. After another few seconds, it will come back and everything will be fine. There are no events written during this time. Every great once in awhile, the system will BSOD caused by nv4_disp.dll (the nvidia display driver) and reboot. I cannot see the substance of this BSOD because the machine reboots almost as soon as the screen comes up. I've even tried disabling the automatic reboot on BSODs but it doesn't work. However, I am attaching a zip file containing the minidumps from this problem. I imagine they are all mostly the same.

I've tried many different drivers and many versions of each driver. I do not believe it is a hardware problem, as the problem does not persist in Safe Mode. The temperature of the video card is mostly 45 - 52 C, as is the motherboard chipset.

Now for the kicker: this problem goes away when playing a DirectX game like Battlefield 2 or Command and Conquer. As long as I play the game, the system will run fast and smooth with high quality settings!

Here are the latest errors from my event viewer (system):... Read more

Hi guys,

I am having problems with computer freezing when playing games. I am guessing it's the graphics card Nvidia GeForce GT 220. Specs are:

Motherboard: Gigabyte EP43T-UD3L
CPU: Intel Dual Core E6500
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GT 220
System: Windows 7, 64 bit

So the freezing happened 3 times so far after playing game for like 30 mins. It's not the blue screen but just when it freezes the speakers just like play that zzzzzzz sound and the monitor turns off. I guess because it does not receive any signal from the graphics card. Also at that point I can just turn it off by holding the power button. Then immediately if I turn it on it powers on until that motherboard screen and then just restarts and so on and on, so I have to turn it off and wait a couple of minutes and then turn it on. Then it's all normal.
Anyone can help?

A:Computer freeze in games Nvidia GeForce GT 220

That sounds like overheating.

Can you check to see if the fan is working on the 220 card?

Also try running the system with the side(s) of the case removed to see if that improves things.

That would also be a good time to look and see how much dust has accumulated inside.

For some reason when I am in game, the game will just suddenly freeze for a period of about 20 seconds to 1 minute and then go back to working just fine. This will happen several times during the game. When the game freezes, I can still hear sound.

It does not freeze when in just regular Windows OS.

Why would it be doing this? I have not had a chance to test it in other games, but my friends say that they have never experienced a freeze up like that in WarRock. Any solutions?

I have had this card for about 8-9 months and have never had it happen. It has only now started happening.

Also, one other question about the fan on a GPU. Is it supposed to suck air inward (toward the card) or blow outward (away from card)?

A:Nvidia (eVGA) 7600gt freezing quite often in games

Firstly, what are your pc specs? To your question about fans, some are designed to blow air out the back of your case, but most fans blow air off of your card by either blowing cooler air towards your card or blowing hot air off the heatsink.

I'll try to give as much information as possible.
Due to problems with BSOD's in win7 after I started playing World of Warships, I eventually ended up with my laptop not detecting my Nvidia GPU anymore.

I recently upgraded to win10 and my Nvidia GPU got detected again.
Some quick computer specs:

Alienware x17 R4
Windows 10 Home-64bit
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3610QM CPU @ 2.30GHz (8 CPUs)12GB RAM
Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 / Nvidia 675M
Sound Blaster Recon 3Di

The Problem:

After I upgraded to Win10 I had the problem of getting BSOD's with multiple causes after playing games using my Nvidia GPU for up to 2 hours. I started updating drivers and changing power settings and eventually it stopped for at least a week.

Sadly, it started again. The BSOD's had multiple causes and names just like in this minidump file linked.

I tried everything, a couple of examples:

- Updating all drivers (Chipsets, wireless, ethernet, GPU)
- Flashing BIOS to the last version possible available on the dell website
- Playing while plugged in and on battery to check a difference there
- Changing stuff in the Nvidia control panel
- Changing stuff in advanced power options
- Updating to all sorts of Nvidia driver version, using clean installs, only Driver + Physx, and using DDU in safe mode
- Probably multiple other things...

The latest thing I did was going back to the specific Intel and Nvidia drivers Dell provide on their website. Also went back to the Sound driver Dell provided (and got th... Read more

Dear Techguy fellows,

I'm having a bothersome problem whenever playing games lately.

I started having this problem almost 1 year ago, but it was something which would occur on a rare occasion and without the issues that I'm going to explain to you now:

During some really heavy games, after some hours, the screen would become distorted, like rippled in a strange way though not entirely. It was a bother but it wasn't that much of a hassle, except for the fact that I couldn't properly see what was going on.

The first game with which the issue showed was Assassin's Creed II. I tried to save pics of this strange phenomenon but to no avail, because curiously the screenshots are perfect, without no distortion at all.

After so many months I installed Borderlands and Guild Wars, and the problem re-presented itself, far more aggresive than before: not only the screen would flicker and become distorted, it would also become black making the computer freeze on the spot.

After so much time and under suggestion of a friend, I've decided to post here asking for help. Since it's impossible to take screenshots because they look perfect, I've modified 2 images to make them look like the problem which afflicts my poor laptop lately:

I've tried searching for similar issues, but no one would either describe the same problem nor tryi... Read more

The issue is, that on the launch of some games (here are a few examples: Bioshock Infinite, Just Cause 2, Killing Floor 2, Metal Gear V - The Phantom Pain) the game launches as a black screen. It launches fine, and i can hear the audio, it doesn't crash either. The only issue is that the screen is completely black. I've tried downgrading the drivers + reupdating. I've tried running in windowed mode, the resolution doesn't seem to be the issue. However, when i force the game to run on my integrated HD4000 it runs fine, and i can see the game. Hence the issue has to be something in relation to my Nvidia GPU (GT750m GDDR5 2gb). Any help or suggestions would be highly appreciated. I've been trying to resolve this issue for weeks, looking online hasn't helped either.

I am having some fps decrease in some of the latest games , like Metal Gear Solid : The Phantom Pain , Assasin's Creed Unity etc .

The games run fine with EVERYTHING ON MAX / ULTRA.However , FRAPS show my FPS in MGS : PHANTOM PAIN under 50 and it goes to 45 at times.

In AC Unity , my fps stays aorung 42 with everything on max ...

I have used Nvidia Inspector before .The last time , i used Nvidia Inspector. It was on my Laptop that had an Nvidia Graphics Dedicated memory and an Optimus Technology (For battery or something).

Nvidia Ispector helped me in playing games that were getting detected by my Intel HD card , instead of my Dedicated Graphics Card on my Laptop.

However , after using Nvidia Inspector , my Nvidia Control Panel DISAPPEARED , literally.
It would appear sometimes and perhaps after opening Nvidia Inspector , it will disappear again.

I want to use Nvidia inspector on my new rig that has a 16 GB RAM , Nvidia GTX 960 2GB Graphics Card , GIGABYTE Motherboard & an i7 Processor.

But i fear if my Nvidia Control Panel will disappear again (like on my Laptop) or not...

I have realised that all games or applications when using the nvida card render a black screen and fail to load anything but sound. This includes various games using steam and their pop loaders, aswell as standalone application like the unreal4 game engine.
I have updated all drivers to the latest on dells site, I have tred the latest direct from nvidia, all fails the same way.
I have ran the online dignostics spaceship test on video cards, and while it said the nvidia card passed, many of the tests were simply black screens! and never rendered any visual, in particular the first 2 tests shader rendertest for directx 11 and 10 were black screens only.
Is this a hardware fault?

So got a bit of a problem, my GTX 670's drivers keep crashing and I cant work out why

Basically it crashes when ever I do anything, open Firefox, crash, open Rift, crash, start Windows, crash.

I did replaced the TIM on my card (MX-4) a couple of weeks ago (not the first time I've removed the cooler on this card) as I was worried about how hot the card was getting and how hot it was getting my CPU WC loop, over 80? on most days, it ran fine for over a week then started playing up out of no where

Cant work out if its the actual card or just all the crap in Windows . I've attached the Windows crash log thing although it hasnt BSOD

Hello, I’ve got a very strange issue with several old games, and I'm trying to find a solution. I'll do my best to describe my issue.

I’m sitting on laptop, Lenovo Y580, packed with i7 quad core cpu and Nvidia Optimus system (intel hd 4000 + nvidia 660m). It’s all working on Windows 7 x64 (SP1 + All updates). All drivers are fresh and Nvidia driver is 332.21.

My problem is that in some old games (direct x 6 and 7 era) 2d elements flicker horribly, i'm talking about interface, menus and so on. 3d is ok. And that’s all only on Nvidia.

I saw this problem in several different games:

Rainbow Six (1998)
No One Lives Forever (2000)
Blood 2 (1998)
Gabriel Knight 3 (1999)

I've got a friend with the same laptop, the only different thing is that he has Windows 8 installed, no flickering. Same driver for nvidia.
I also have another friend with Nvidia Optimus laptop from another vendor and he is on Windows 7, he has flickering.
Aaaand i also found this guy in the interent with the same exact problem: https://forums.geforce.com/default/t...ents-and-fmvs/

So, i’m trying to understand what unites games mentioned above? (directx 6-7 i suppose?)
And what has changed in Windows 8, so flickering is gone?

p.s. I was able to launch NOLF and Blood 2 in window mode, flickering was gone, other games don’t have windowed mode.

p.s. i’m Russian, sorry for my English.

A:Flickering in old games on Nvidia (very strange problem)

I also need to say that modern games run perfectly on my laptop. And also there are no flickering on Intel graphics, but it has some other issues which are not important

My graphic card could run every game until a month ago without any problems. But a moth ago it started to overheat on games like AC III and the picture was very laggy and the fan was making very loud noises, I`m not really a expert on computers so I`m here for a opinion on what should I do. Here is to understand the problem some pictures of my temperatures:

The first one is while playing Fifa 13, and I even adjusted my visual settings for best performance.
The second one is on my normal settings when I wasn`t doing anything.
Thanks to anyone who would like to give me some advice on what to do

Hey all.

I'm hoping someone can help me with a problem occuring during certain games. I'll be able to access main menus of the games, but when i try to actually play them, my screen goes black and the game doesn't respond. This happened with Worms Armageddon and Diablo 2.

My graphics card is GeForce 6600 GT nVIDIA 128MB DDR3

Is anyone else experiencing similar problems?

If you can think of anything worth trying please tell me! I really have no idea what to do. If you need any more information just ask.

Thanks so much

A:GeForce 6600 GT Nvidia Problem in Games

I have the same problem.

I have the same thing. When i play BF2 or RTCW on my 6200tc. i can go to the menues and stuff but when i try to play the game the screen goes blach and un responsive. This only happens in windows 2000 for BF2.

This is turning me off of Nvidia. They make good cards but they never work right.

Hi, i have had many problems with games on Windows 8 and posted many threads about it. I have researched that NVidia cards and Windows 8 don't mix very well. My games allways lag and crash and this is on newer games as well. Could my NVidia card be the issue? If i tried another card E.g. ATI would it fix my problem.

A:Is my NVidia Card Making my games crash?

Hard to say.

NVidia's drivers have made lots of crashes in the past, including under Windows 7. Some of us think that their drivers are better than AMDs, even so.

Have you installed the latest drivers for your card?

Drivers | GeForce

There are also new beta drivers for the card, if you wish to experiment:

Drivers | GeForce

The GT440 isn't a high end card, so I'm not sure what best you may hope for.
