I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: HELP!! new laptop and wireless network but no working internet!

Click Start, Control Panel then Network Connections. You should have a Wireless connection there. Double click it. Click View Wireless Networks and you should have a wireless network there. If not click refresh network list on the left. If you do have one shown click on advanced settings then wireless settings. Click on Advanced make sure Any Available Network is checked. If more that one wireless network is showing you have to move your Up to the first position. Also do you have Wep Or Wap enabled? If so you would have to enter the key. Also make sure you are close to your wireless router when doing this to rule out a weak signal.

Hi. We have 3 computers connected to our router via cable and the network works just fine. Recently 2 friends of ours have joined our network with their laptops via wireless and it still worked fine. However, when another friend stopped by and wanted to connect (again via wireless) as soon as she connected to the router the whole network stopped working for everybody. I tried to give her a static IP so there wouldn't be a conflict anywhere but that didn't help. If I connected her through the cable, then everything was fine. But as soon as she tried wireless, the whole network stopped working again. None of the other computers cause this problem, just hers. Whenever she tries to connect, the network always stops working for everybody.
All the systems are win 7. the router is : cisco RangePlus Wireless Router, WRT110

Make sure she has the latest and correct wireless driver (from the laptop manufacturer's site if the adapter is integrated).

Hi all!!

Having a bit of a nightmare with my new laptop, hope someone can help! I recently purchased a Samsung laptop, model number NP350E7C-A04UK on Windows 8, everything worked fine for the first few months, I actually love the machine! Haha. Unfortunately though, last week, the wireless internet decided to stop working. I've got no idea why this has happened, I have not updated or changed anything in the system. I can connect fine when I plug in an Ethernet cable and my phone connects to my internet through the wireless with no problem so I know the router is working properly. Now the laptop finds wireless networks and says they're available but when I try and connect it simply says 'unable to connect to this network'. I've tried all the usual suspects, updated the wireless driver, uninstalled and re-installed it, I even took my laptop to a mates to see if it would connect to theirs. None of these have worked. I am now officially out of ideas so I've decided to turn to people who clearly now far more than me about this sort of stuff!! Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers in advance guys!

Since you cannot connect to your router or other routers as well, I would recommend the following action for starters:

Disable your anti-virus and retest.
Boot into safe mode with networking and retest.

Let us know the results.

After moving I was using a wireless Internet connection for a while but then I started using a direct connection to a router. Now I'm back to wireless but I'm having this problem, my brother has been using the wireless from the beginning and still does so I'm sure it's my computer. No browsers work, no games, nothing can connect to the Internet.
I'm running windows 7 and now the Internet icon in the taskbar is the computer monitor with a yellow triangle as opposed to the bars of wireless internet unless I'm connected or trying to connect to the wireless Internet that either says I have limited connectivity or is connected but doesn't work.
Also, sorry, I know I should be showing what comes up in command prompt but if someone could give me the commands to type in, I'll report what cones in as soon as possible.

Thanks in advance.

My issue I've been having for a week now is that I've set up a wireless network to try to allow my iPhone to connect to the internet through my pc. The network is running, and can file share, etc. but the Internet connection wont share. I am using a sprint usb aircard for my internet connection so I have tried using ICS on my pc to allow the connection without the router having one. I've tried DHCP, static IP's, and crawling through about a million forums and cant seem to find a solution. any ideas would be greatly appriciated.

A:Wireless Network working but Internet wont share, please help.

Maybe you could share some of the configuration with us.
How is the router fitting in the picture with the Sprint USB Aircard? Is that your only ISP connection?
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Make and exact model and hardware version of any other network equipment, like a repeater, a booster, hi-gain antenna, etc.
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP (Home or Pro), SP1-SP2-SP3, Vista (Home, Business, Ultimate), etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?
If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

I've spent a few hours trying to connect my laptop to my roadrunner cable through a netgear wireless usb adapter. The desktop is working fine that is directly connected to the modem and router. I spent half an hour on the phone with tech support from netgear and everything they went through with me did not work. They said to contact the laptop support. The netgear adapter software wizard keeps scanning so that when it is on channel 11 it gets a signal for a few moments, then continues to scan through other channels and lose the signal for a minute or two. Any ideas? PLEASE!!!

Hi - hope you can help me. I have 4 computers - three macs and one dell laptop running windows XP professional on a unsecured wireless nework, speedstream modem, dlink -524 router. Until 2 weeks ago everything was fine. I had some connection problems 2 weeks ago and had to reset the password on the modem, which I did with help from my isp. I did not reset the password on my router, as I didn't have access to it at that time.

Since then, the three macs connect just fine, but I have been having problems connecting to the internet with my laptop. The network connects, but most times I cannot get to the internet. Occasionally I am able to connect, but then the connection drops again. The laptop can connect to the internet using other networks.

Reading through the posts on this form, I have run ipconfig/all and done the ping tests.I can ping the ip address, and the dns servers, but pinging and yahoo.com gives me a timed out message. I haven't been able to find any posts which suggest tests for this result.

if anyone can give me some help would be much appreciated. I'm writing this in the morning, will not have access to the computer until this evening, but am willing to run any and all tests at that time. Thanks!

A:laptop connecting to wireless network but not internet

Do the symptoms change if you connect to a wired connection with that machine?

Let's see this using a wired connection to the router.

Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

NOTE: For the items below in red surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous IPCONFIG command output! Do NOT type <computer_IP_address> into the command, that won't work.

PING <computer_IP_address>

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING <dns_servers>

PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<dns_servers> - The IP address of the first (or only) address for DNS Servers, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

I have a Toshiba laptop that was connecting to a neighbor's wireless just fine until yesterday!! Now all I am getting is Local access.

I went and got Time Warner cable internet today. When I plug the ethernet cable directly into my laptop, it works fine. When I try to go onto my wireless router, it says local only.

I have wasted several hours trying to figure this out, plus the expense of getting my own internet, which I am better off having, I can secure my router.

I used this router prior to this with another internet service but I think the router name and security password, etc should stay the same.

I have made changes to my computer, but it doesn't seem to make any difference what I do. Still no wireless!!

Can someone help me before I lose my patience entirely???

Ok so recently I reformatted my ASUS laptop wiping everything from my hard drive. When I tried to connect to the internet, the laptop would not find any wireless networks around me. So I went to Device Manager and saw that the "Network Controller" had a yellow triangle next to it. So I tried to find a network controller driver online for my laptop, but couldn't find anything. Even on the ASUS drivers download page there were no network controllers available. Here are the specs of my laptop: -
Model: UL50Ag, OS:- Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit, Ethernet Controller:- Atheros AR8131 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20)

If any other information is required just ask and please if anyone can find a link or some solution to resolve my problem, I would be very grateful.

I did nothing to make it stop working. I was on the internet, stepped away, came back, and couldn't connect. I checked the online connection (by clicking the little icon in the bottom right part of the screen) and it came up with an error. I went to Device Manager, and there is a "!" next to LAN-Express IEEE 802.11 PCI Adapter. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, but the "!" is still there.

Did the actual hardware break somehow? Is there anything I should do before bringing it back to where I bought it? I've only had it for a few months, and never before had a problem

Hello guys

a very annoying problem I have eversince I got wireless internet in 2004. My internet just randomly stops working, mostly when I boot my laptop or when I get it out off standby. This is what happens:

I try to connect to my router, but Windows says "cannot connect to belkin54g" (SSID). The strange thing is, I had the same with my old Windows XP computer years ago, but back then I had a Linksys router. My current router is a Belking (no idea what model).

Also very weird is the fact that my internet monitor (I installed a Windows 7 desktop gadget) shows that the connection is being interrupted all the time. It goes from 33% signal strength to 100% in 3 seconds but after another 3 seconds the signal is lost and the gadget is displaying 0% signal strength. Though the LED on my router's WLAN is not red, nor are any other LED's colored red.

Can someone pleaaaaaaaaaaase help me out? I got this problem for years and years. I've also configured my network card not to go in standby modus whenever the laptop is in standby, this didn't work out the way I've hoped.

One more thing, once I am connected to the router and have access to the internet, there is no problem anymore and I can be online for like 1 month without rebooting or whatever. But sometimes when I reboot/come back out of standby it just doesn't work and I need to reboot again. Sometimes it still doesn't work after rebooting so I reboot again and then it is mostly working, but it is so *beep* annoying... Read more

I am currently having a problem with my friend's eMachines laptop. At some point a few weeks ago, it stopped connecting to web sites via browser, although he had a strong wireless connection at home.

He brought it in to work for me to take a look at. I don't have access to the router as it is the company wifi network. The problem has to be with the laptop anyway as my personal laptop and ipod touch are both connecting to the wireless network and loading web content with no problems. I have tried a few things with no results and I don't mind starting from scratch in case I missed something.

Below I have posted ipconfig /all for his machine connected wirelessly, as well as PING for his machine's IP, the default gateway, the DNS and yahoo, IP and domain. Below that is the same tests run with the computer connected via cable to the network. In addition, I have added the same results from my personal netbook, which is functioning correctly. Any help would be very much appreciated!

Wireless network with two macs and one pc-- all was working great, with wpa2 protection-- but then changed to WEP (because my Olive Musica only uses WEP) and reconfigured the computers. But now only the macs work. The PC connects to the network and sometimes shows a strong signal and sometimes show limited connectivity, but in no case connects to the internet. And when I try to configure the pc it ultimately reverts back to the WPA and when it opens available networks it describes the network i use as a wpa network, even though i reconfigured the whole thing to wep!
If I sound like I know what I'm talking about, alas I do not. But I have tried opening, redoing, reading info, and everything else to get my pc back on board this wireless network.... but nothing seems to work.
What do you think? Thanks for any and all help. best, charlie

Hi there, I would really appreciate any suggestions for this, I have searched the internet high and low for a solution. I am running Windows xp pro.

I work as a video editor and where I work we have a wired network sharing video between the different computers at 1gbps. This is on a static IP. I also want to use the internet while I am working by connecting to our wireless internet with a wireless adapter via DHCP.

My problem is if the video network is running my wireless internet constantly goes down every 2 minutes. I have found an interesting way to get it to work again is to switch http1.1 and http1.1 through proxy connections on and off until it comes back. But after a year of doing this every 2 minutes I AM GETTING REALLY TIRED OF IT.

Is there any way for me to get these 2 networks working happily at the same time?? I have read about setting up static ip and dhcp at the same time, but when I type in ipconfig/all my settings say I am already seem to be running a static ip and dhcp with the wireless wouter.

Or maybe the sheer volume of the video network will always squeeze out the internet while it is running??

I am reasonably intelligent and computer literate but no expert, any help would be greatly appreciated, many thanks

I have a HP laptop that runs windows Vista Premium, and is connected to an old Netgear wireless router, with which a broadband modem is connected to.

I have had this setup for nearly two years, and has been running great, including this morning. However tonight I cannot get the laptop to connect to the internet. I have had a couple of weird issues before, but restarting the computer has always fixed it. This time I have restarted everything, and I can access other computers on the network (not wireless) but not the internet.

Strangely, a hard drive that is connected to another computer that is shared for my backups is also not being found. (the other computer is plugged into the router through an ethernet cable, and internet works fine).

MSN, Explorer and the like will not connect to the net. Interestingly, when I start Mozilla Firefox, which loads a simplified google homepage, after a long long time, loads about hald way.

Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be, I dont know what to do or try, because I havent seemed to change anything to stop it working. Any ideas I could try would be much appreciated.

I spent about an hour going through similar posts here but didn't really find what I needed. I'm hoping this is just something stupid on my part.
Here's the deal:
My sons laptop crashed. I did what I could to recover it but, no good. Was able to recover his important files (from help I got here) so I picked up a new harddrive (WD60gig) and installed WINXP Pro fresh.

My desktop is hardwired from a Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Broadband router that is connected to cablevision via a 3Com U.S. Robotics modem.

The problem now is trying to get an internet connection on the laptop.

Prior to the crash, he was able to connect using the wireless router.

I've tried going directly to the laptop from the modem just to get an internet connection but I haven't got that to happen yet.

Do I need to install the 3com modem software on the laptop?

I just installed Norton Antivrus 2005 on the Desktop.

How do I check for Firewall issues?

Any help is appreciated. Even just a pointer to a good article might do it.

A:Solved: Laptop says connected to wireless network, but can't access the internet

Read other 16 answers

Hello there,

Please bear with me as I'm new here and I'm honestly not super tech-savvy. I'm seeking help because my laptop seems to have spontaneously lost the ability to connect to (or even detect) my home network internet connection. (Details about the laptop and OS are towards the end of this post.) When I open Chrome, I get the error message, "Unable to connect to the internet." When I click on the usual icon that I'd use to locate my home network, I see, "Currently connected to: Unidentified network. No network access." My network does not show up. There is a link for "Open Network and Sharing Center." I attached a screen shot of what I see when I click on that link. Clicking on the "Connect to a network" option leads me right back to "Currently connected to: Unidentified network. No network access" with a link to open the Network and Sharing Center. I can't get the laptop to find my home network no matter which choice I try.

I got out my old HP laptop (which has wireless) for troubleshooting purposes. It immediately found my home network and accessed the internet without any problems. So I it would seem there are no issues with my modem and/or router. I suspect I've just done something dumb in the laptop settings. I once accidentally turned off all sound for internet websites and couldn't restore it until a friend came to troubleshoot, so this scenario does not seem unlikely.

Also, in case it provides any clues... Read more

I've had this Inspiron 8600 for about 3-4 years now. I turned it on today and it connects to the wireless network as usual, but when I try to bring firefox and/or internet explorer up, it says that the server is too busy..etc. I've tried other wireless networks that are not secure in my neighborhood. I can connect to the network, but still no internet. I've restarted my laptop. I've disabled and enabled the wireless connection. I've unplugged and replugged my wireless router. My desktop is connected with a hard wire to the wireless router and its internet works fine. Could it be that my network driver has gone bad? Someone please help! Thanks in advance.

How does the 8600 work with ethernet?

With wireless can you access the router's configuration pages?

Hi all,

I'm having a bit of an issue connecting my wife's laptop to the new wireless network we set up. I searched and saw similar topics, but none that have answered my problem Her computer has always worked wirelessly in the past until I bought this netgear Wireless-N 300 router, WNR2000v2. It says the laptop (Vista) is connected to an unidentified network, and no internet. She has an Etheros adapter.

My desktop is connected to the wireless network as well and works fine (also Vista). I've gathered from reading other posts here that I should give you my ipconfig.

Hi all,
My laptop connects to my home wireless network without any issues but whenever I try going online via Firefox/IE, I get a message saying "unable to connect, problem loading page". My other wireless devices can all connect to the internet without any issues so the problem is isolated to this one laptop.
I've gone into the command prompt to check the ipconfig /all information and the IP addresses, DNS info, and gateways all check out. I can ping google.com successfully from the problematic laptop. I've tried to reboot in Safe Mode with Networking and the internet works in that instance. So I believe there's something running upon normal startup that's preventing me from accessing the internet through my browser. But I have no idea where to start.
The problematic laptop is running WIndows XP (SP2). Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

A:Laptop can connect to wireless network but has issues connecting to the Internet

First thing you should do, IMO...install SP3 and all the critical updates that have been disseminated since SP3. Then... Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it. Checkmark the following checkboxes:  List last 10 Event Viewer log  List Installed Programs  List Users, Partitions and Memory size. Click Go and paste the content into your next post. Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic323892.html/page__p__1797792#entry1797792 , taking care to post the link. Louis

OK I have a Toshiba Laptop or Notebook (whatever its called) and it has Windows Vista. I have wireless internet on it but like two months ago it crashed or something of that sort and I had to use the CD it came with to restore everything. Since then, every time I use the internet, which is Mozilla Fox, and if I load more than one page it gets a Network Timeout saying the site took to long to respond. This never happened to me before and I don't know what to do. I understand if it takes to long to respond but since the crash it does it way to often like every minute. What can I do? I already used the restore CD again but nothing. Is it because the Mozilla or is there something wrong with my computer. And also it is not the connection because I have perfect signal because the the router is just in the next room. Also if I play a game online like Maple Story or Combat Arms or even Call of Duty it will sometimes lose the connection. Please some one help!!

Hi there, im new to the forums and i've got a problem that's been a real pain for me lately.
I've got a wireless connection in my house going through a Linksys WRT54GC router and also a wired connection with Cisco gateway (only 1 laptop uses it). About 1 month ago some strange things began to happen with the wireless connection, my PC seems not to be able to connect unless I reinstall the protocols and it's really annoying to do that every time I run my PC. Also, the wired connection stopped working (probably because of cable being broken) but it requires a router restart 90% of the time when I want to connect the laptop (that used to connect through cable) to the wireless network. The 2nd laptop has an issue mentioned in the title, the LAN works but it can't connect to the Internet through the router. Ipconfig /all shows that DHCP isn't working, there's no default gateway and DNS seems to be wrong. Could that all be related to router not being updated for a long time? I tried reinstalling drivers, unistalling and installing back network card and doing most of the things mentioned in similar threads but nothing seems to work. I know it all looks very silly but I can't do anything about it, at least now - I don't have access to any router settings and can't update it.
Every bit of help is appreciated. I can paste all the information needed from all computers.
Operating systems are: Windows 7 on PC and the 1st laptop, 2nd laptop... Read more

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Hello TSG Forums,

I've got quite the challenge for you guys. I've gone through two different tech support lines, three computer savvy friends, and every troubleshooting trick and tip I could scour off of the internet. All efforts have been in vain thus far. So as to not make this post too long, I'll get to the point.

I recently bought a new wireless adapter to connect to the internet with. Previously I was using an older adapter that my room mate was lending me. ( a Motorola Wireless USB Adapter WU830G to be exact.) At first when I installed the motorola it didn't work. I can't remember what I did to make it work for the life of me, but I eventually twisted my computer's arm enough that it gave in. Now it's uninstalled from my computer, along with (I hope) all the drivers and programs that were using it.

So I bought a new adapter (Belkin Wireless G Plus MIMO USB Network Adapter - F5D9050) read the instructions carefully, and made sure that it was installed just as the manual says. (Install the software, wait for the prompt, etc etc.) Everything seemed to be going smoothly until I tried to configure my connections. (Where the wireless detects all the access points, and you put in your WEP key etc.) The wireless adapter seemed to be doing nothing. The device manager showed the adapter with no problems, and no errors, but the program was stubbornly pretending that my wireless adapter didn't exist. After trying multiple USB ports, uninst... Hi everyone.

This past weekend I went out of town and took my Windows 7 laptop with me -- since I returned home, it has been unable to connect to my wireless network. Other devices in my home connect to the network just fine, and the problem laptop has always been fine until now. My network card is an Atheros AR9285, and I'm attempting to connect to a Medialink router with WPA password protection and AES encryption.

My wireless network icon in the task bar has a yellow sign with an exclamation point in it. It says "No Internet access."

I have tried:

-rebooting the computer
-unplugging and restarting the modem and router
-going to the command prompt and renewing my IP address with the command IPCONFIG/RENEW

None of this works.

Like I said, all other devices in my house connect to the wireless network with no problem. It's just this one laptop. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A:Windows 7 laptop with Atheros AR9285 network card can't connect to wireless network

Three things to try ...

If you have McAfee please see the sticky thread at the top of this (Networking) forum.

Disable encryption on the router and try to connect. If successful you can probably re-enable encryption and reconnect.

Revert to a System Restore Point before the weekend.

I'm trying to setup/connect a wireless printer (HP All-in-one) so that a user can use his laptop wireless and print from anywhere in the house.

He did not have any network set-up previously. He had dialup and just purchased a new laptop (with wireless) and this new printer and has just gotten this new Rogers "Rocket" Stick. (It's a USB internet connection uses cell phone frequency.)

Normally this is pretty straight forward when conected to a wireless router.
(I brought over a wireless router to test out)

When Rogers "Rocket" stick is connected (for internet), Can I connect to another wireless home network for sharing at the same time?

Computer Vista Laptop with Rogers Rocket Stick.
I tried a couple of things.

Setup a wireless network:
1) I used the setup internet connection wizard to configure a computer to computer wireless adhoc network (appears to work for very short distances - 30 feet) I was able to print a test page but not anything else - so I thought about using my Dlink Router for greater distance (if it was a distance thing as indicated.

2) I setup the (Dlink) wireless router as a standalone wireless network - not conected to the internet (configured it) and then configured my HP printer (wireless) to connect to that network. I successfully configured the printer via wizard to connect to the found network.
- I then connected to this wireless network and added the network printer (using it's HP Wireless wizard) - it found it ... Read more

Well I don't have one at home but when at work where I know they have a wireless network, I cannot see it on my available networks to connect too. Am I doing something wrong?

My laptop has windows XP Pro on it.

Hi, Have a problem there, Just reinstalled a fresh copy of Windows XP and WAS having problems having my Linksys 802B wireless card but now it finally detected.. just reinstalled the driver. Now another problem is.. when I double clciked INternet Exploroer, webpages dont load up. A box pops up tp ask if I want to workoffline or Connect. I click on COnnect, and the box then said " No connection to the internet is currently avaiable." The thing is that my wireless adapter is already connected to the DSL in perfect signal connections.

I then went to to Network COnnections folder, There are 3 icons, one says Incomming, the other 2 in the LAN or HighSpeed Internet section says 1394 Connection, and Wireless Network Connection Enabled. On the far left column, i clicked on Create a New Connection. I clicked the option of " Connect to the internet" , then "Setup my Connection Manually.". Then " Connect Using a broadband connection that is always on." .. because I dont need a login name and password. After clicking NEXT and Finished, ..nothing happened.. i clicked on IE again, and same thing pops up. I tried doing the 2nd option to let u enter the ID and password BUT disable the prompt to log in with a username and pw.. still dont work.
What gives? How do i fix this problem? Any help is appreciated. thnx.
