I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My laptop had a windows performance rating of 3.0 Today it is 2.6 (gaming graphics). How did it happen? The laptop is two months old. Many thanks.

I've had a lot of reduced performance with my system lately, in addition to a lot of windows error messages for some reason. I just un-installed a handful of anti-spyware/malware apps because I had way too many.
Now I'm left with HJT, MalwareBytes (w/ active protection), TuneUp2009, ZoneAlarm, & Spyware Blaster
Is this sufficient protection?
Applications load up much slower and the start is lagged.
Otherwise I haven't had too many issues, a couple crashes few and far between.
Any ideas?

Hello guys. Recently I've bought I PowerColor ATI HD 6790 1 GB DDR5 video card. My old one was the 4670 version, though it was from Gigabyte. And oddly enough, my performance seems to have been reduced.

This is my current setup

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+
PowerColor Ati HD 6790 1GB DDR5
Lc-Power LC 420H-12
Western Digital 500gb Sata2 7200 Rpm 32mb Buffer

What could be causing this and what would be the solution?

Cry Performance reduced after reinstalling WinXP pro

I have just reinstalled my system (XP Pro) and updated it online to SP2. Authenticated updated and all. I haven't changed any hardware and in fact I reinstalled less software than before.
Since reinstallation and updating, I've noticed considerable deterioration on system performance, reflected e.g. on scroll speed (eg in Firefox and in Word & Excel. For firefox I've checked "smooth scrolling" it's off. Especially Word used to be up to 1page/sec while scrolling with arrow keys, now is down to 5-6 sec/page. Also: normally Word shows the page numbers (lower left corner) changing as you scroll - not anymore in my case. Page numbers remain change only after scrolling stops. Other example is when I move windows on the screen, movement is not spooth but rather jerky.
Any ideas?
My 2.66GHz machine is clean according to avast antivirus, spybot, adaware & adwatch, Netscape's own spyware scanner. Reg mechanic finds no problems. HD (40GB) is error free and cleaned-up and defragmented. Smooth scrolling options are off.
Thanks to anyone who could help.

Help with MS Office is another forum, so I can't hep you with Word settings.
As far as your general slowness issue: If it's slower now than it was before the re-install, then you did something different this time than you did previously. Try and think what that might be. I could sit here and guess all week and we might never stumble across it, there's just too many things that could affect performance.

It takes about ~4 mintues to boot this laptop, inexplicable CPU usage. Though the usage isn't consistently bad. Today I experienced such taxed resource usage, that simply moving the cursor across the screen had a choppy latent effect. I'd move the cursor, and about 1-2 seconds later, it would move it's position on the screen. I have ran Ad-aware, and Spybot, and they removed only tracking cookies. Trendmicro housecall came up with nothing. Here is the HJT log:

2. Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.

3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log & a fresh HJT log in your next reply

Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Today I've noticed a significant reduction in my computers performance. I installed a fresh copy of spy sweeper and it came up with 2 pieces of malware

Mal/Generic A
Mal/Keygen C

unfortunately it keeps jamming up so it wont erase them. Any help scanning the system would be much appreciated.

Windows 7 Home Edition, standard HP desktop.

Btw I did install a video card upgrade today, dont know if that could have potentially effected things, but it has been runnning worse since.. went from 256mb integrated to 1gig ATI Sapphire HD4670..

I would really appreciate help doing thorough malware and virus scans to help optimize performance.

Hello ford66,

I'm not seeing anything malicious in this log and the error messages you posted are related to your Operating system and Wireless Networking Card.

There are however, a few entries we can fix in the log.

From Normal Mode:

Open HijackThis and click on 'Do a System Scan Only'. Check the following entries if they exist (make sure you do not miss any)

Week ago I bought new SSD drive. (OCZ Agility 3, 2.15 firmware)
I made fresh install of OS, newest drivers etc.
SSD and my system was working very well but I was disapointed to my SSD-benchmark results. Well I tried to increase performance by updating my motherboard bios. Bios update succeed but it didnt really increase performance of my ssd, new bios reduced writing performance notable. (MOBO = Asus m4a87td/usb, bios v.2001) AHCI is on.

What with that 103424? Shouldnt it be 1024? Previous score over 400 points, now just 300. (disappeared in picture)

Also noticed another problem. I can't boot my comp if I have external drive plugged in.
I just can't change my 1st device boot to agility drive in bios because it's not in the list of boot devices. Well I unplug external drive and its working. Also thought that bios update would fix it but it didnt.

A:SSD Performance reduced after BIOS update.

Your numbers are lower than most, but I don't know if it would be noticed in real life as opposed to a benchmark.

I think that 103424 is a reference to alignment. If it's evenly divisible by 4, it should be OK--and it is.

Not sure about the BIOS/external drive issue. Was the external connected when you did the clean install to the SSD?

One way or another, I'd make sure all boot files were on the SSD and that it appeared in the BIOS and was bootable, regardless of whether the external was plugged in.

I am reasonably computer-literate, at least to the point of maintaining an efficient and virus free computer to operate at top performance. Inexplicably, my gaming performance on applications which normally achieve steady frames in the 40's and 50's range are completely stuttering around 2-3. My computer is very well maintained, with a commit charge of 123, regularly defragged, registry cleaned, scanned for viruses, etc. I thought that it might be a case of conflicting drivers, and as such updated all of them, with the exception of my BIOS (was going to try but am out of floppy disks). The only other thing that I can think of besides a BIOS conflict is that in the add/remove programs list is a Client Hack 1.9.2d that cannot be removed, nor is it recognized when I do deep scans with kaspersky or bitdefender. it seems unlikely to me that one virus is drastically reducing my gaming performance, its possible that a particular setting on my computer is wrong, but I checked everything I know (including BIOS AGP aperture settings, etc). Please, any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated, as this has been driving me mad as I've been trying to remedy this on my own for the past few days.

This problem has me completely baffeled. I'm not even sure if this is the right forum to be posting in. (If you can suggest a forum better related to topic please do).

Recently I noticed my whole system being slower and more sluggish. Especially playing games. I checked my windows experience index and it had changed from 6.5 to 2.9.

The only scores in the list that have changed signifigantly are my cpu (now at 2.3) and my memory access(2.9).

This happend to me once before about 6 months ago. In the end I updated my dell bios from a10 to a11 and my score went up to 6.5 and my performance was percieveably improved.

Now I dont understand why (what seems like the same problem) has happened again.

I'd be very grateful if somebody could help me figure out why my system has suddenly slowed down so drastically.

A:CPU and memory performance suddenly drastically reduced

Take a look at Task Manager when it is running slow. Look at processes to see what is taking up RAM and CPU cycles.

Does it boot as quickly as before?

I wouldn't expect a BIOS change to improve things.

Look at Resource Monitor to see how much RAM you are using at any particular time.

Have you done any tests of your RAM or hard drive to confirm they are OK?

How confident are you that you have no viruses or malware?

By this it can take a load of time to load up a page, or any simple task can just hang, to the point i will go start making a coffee! It just seems to some days really struggle to do anything.Whilst not the fastest notebook it has saved my bacon on a few ocassions, i would like to keep it as a spare but dont know why its all of a sudden having issues.

Yes, low free space on the C drive is a problem here. Experts recommends at lease 15% free space in the OS partition for proper system operation. Other than the free space issue, there might be additional problems in your system such as malwares, failing or old aging hard dive etc. Please try the below steps.
Transfer all the data that can be moved from C to D partition. Free up maximum space as you can.
Download and run TFC to clean all kind of temp files.
 Uninstall unused applications.
Open Control Panel --> Programs and uninstall all the software which you never used. They only help to eat hard drive space and slowing down Windows by adding unnecessary services.
To detect and uninstall bloatwares pre-loaded by laptop manufacturer, you can use the free program PC Decrapifier.
Use Microsoft Security Essentials as the antivirus solution.
Most of the third party AV programs are huge resource hogs and known to slow down  systems. Microsoft's own AV program MSE requires very low system resources and works very well with Windows. I highly recommends uninstalling your current antivirus completely and use MSE instead.

I have a DV6 Hp Pavillion laptop, which was working perfectly up until a few days back. Even though it is a little old, because of my 8GB RAM , 2Gb ATI Radeon and i7 Sandy Bridge it was functioning efficiently until now.
I replaced my battery and charger a year back. The laptop was was also replaced about 2 months ago.

In the last 1 week, I have noticed that my laptop is always heated and overheats even when I play any low graphic games .This I presumed was because of a battery/power issue which caused the laptop to lag/hang. Henceforth, I ran an energy diagnostic test on my system and came up with the follwing results (I will post them below this paragraph).

So, I'm at school and I receive a text from my mother stating that she is receiving porn popups and that google results are sending her off to random pages. This isn't uncommon because no one in my family understands computers anymore than your average secretary (no offense, but let's be honest. lol)... That being said, I went over and ran a few scans as I normally do which tends to clean it up fairly well. I begin by running HiJackThis and looking through it's logs and then looking at the startup items...

During this processes, I noticed several suspicious files that definitely did not belong. I then made sure to update the definitions on the current AV installed (BitDefender) and ran a scan with it. Afterwards, I continued to run Malwarebytes AntiMalware and SuperAntiSpyware. All 3 of them came back with results of finding several trojans... After running those, cleaning with them, rebooting, ect.. The popups were gone and the system was operating much more smoothly...

However, I got another text 2 days later, after returning to campus, that she was getting redirects again and BitDefender kept popping up several alerts about trojans... For insance, when I used that machine to google GMER; it showed the proper results but when clicking on the first result it then redirected me to:

I should also note that ComboFix results in a BSOD everytime.

While you may see ComboFix being used quite often, and possibly you have used the tool yourself without incident, the tool should not be run unsupervised (as stated in the Disclaimer that is first displayed by ComboFix when you run the tool)

Going forward, I highly recommend you heed such instructions. As explained in Post 2 of our pre-posting topic...

Why we don't ask you to run ComboFix from the onset

ComboFix is a very powerful tool which when improperly used may render your machine to a doorstop.

We first need to verify if there's any rootkits present and how they could affect our tools. DDS & GMER are preliminary scans. We use their logs to map our strategy for attack.

With these logs we can determine the infections present & decide whether to deploy ComboFix.

That being said, I'll need a log from another tool. Again, it's important you follow these instructions as given.

Please download aswMBR.exe and save it to your desktop.

Double click aswMBR.exe to start the tool. At this time, select No when prompted to download the Avast database.
Click Scan
Upon completion of the scan, click Save log and save it to your desktop, and post that log in your next reply for review. Note - do NOT attempt any Fix yet.

Dear TSG & co.

I've been working on a huge doc in word (w/images)... Since it has grown (78 pages = 14'600kb), problems.

1) Track-changes was activated by default; seeing this as a potential source of problems, I deactivated in word. However, evertime I save and then open doc on another pc, the track changes reappear & doc is increased to 100+ pages of text & images. I believe this has blocked my pc (ASUS pro5di, windows 7, Office 2010) and corrupted or lost data.

Since starting with this doc, I realized that every time I create a new word doc, it opens as a very narrow page on the left side of the screen. It isn't the zoom: zoom was at 100% and when I increased it, I had to increase to over 200% to read any text.

Any ideas?

Whilst watching different video files, a problem popped up out of the blue. I couldn't open videofiles. The error message is: "no supported format or not the right codecs". I could however open these video files in VLC, but the quality is poor. The images are grainy.

I installed the K-lite FULL codec pack, which enabled me to open the files with WMP but the image is black and if I jump forward in the file I get the same error message. VLC is still grainy. Media player classic came with the codec pack, and although it can play the files, this also has poor quality images.

Help would be much appreciated.

Hello when installing K-Lite did you choose the option 'Create File Associations for Windows Media Player'. If not then it will have created them for Media Player Classic which would be a reason why it still doesn't play with WMP.

Hi everyone!

I'm facing a strange situation here and would appreciate your comments and ideas!

I have a small LAN of 4 PCs.
2 PCs running Windows 7 Ultimate, 1 PC running Windows XP SP3 and 1 PC running Windows Vista Ultimate.

Until now all 4 PCs had no problems at all as far as networking/internet connection speed is concerned.
For the LAN we were using static IPs (i.e. 192.168.1.XXX) and everybody was enjoying a nice downloading speed.
Recently we moved to a new ISP and from the very first moment, the download bandwidth of the 2 PCs (running Vista and XP) was suddenly reduced from (actual) 5 Mbps to 100 Kbps while the upload bandwidth remained unchanged at 800 Kbps for all 4 PCs as it always was!!
I tried also setting the TCP IP of the computers to automatically get a dynamic IP, but there was no change in the downloading speed.
Is there any idea of what may have reduced the download bandwidth for the the Vista and the XP computers??

Any ideas/comments would be much appreciated!

I have a huge problem with a laptop.
It is running Win XP SP3.

The TaskBar in the bottom is white-ish, and nothing shoews up on it.
The Windows-button doesn?t work.
I cannot copy or paste or anything like that inside WinXP.
Internet Explorer won?t start.
There is no internet connection (it looks like all those protocols have been removed from Windows.
Outlook Express can start, but cannot open already downloaded mails.

I have tried to follow instructions on this site on what to do before posting, but have run into some problems:
I have managed to copy the dds.scr and the gmer.exe to the computer from a memory-stick (via the Command Prompt (DOS))

I have been able to run GMER.EXE, but DDS.SCR will not run. I have however been able to run HighjackThis.

Therefore I have attached the results from GMER and HighjackThis.

I hope very much that somebody will be able to help me.

Thanks in advance

First discovered this problem because I was unable to connect to a particular web site that was functional according to a friend that I was talking to on the telephone while trying to connect.

Problem: Network UPLOAD speed is randomly reduced from 2Mb to 600Kb while download speed seems unaffected (Abt. 30 to 50Mb). First eliminated the router, modem and cables as suspects working with ISP tech support. CAT 5 cabling to router and cable modem. Then I discovered that another machine on the network did not have this problem. I then discovered that disabling the network and re-enabling the network cured the problem.....temporarily.
Downloaded and installed latest NIC driver from MB web site. No solution. Downloaded and installed latest NIC driver from Realtek web site. No solution. Updated MB BIOS. No solution.

MB= Asus M5A97 EVO
CPU: AMD FX-4100
OS: MS Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1 (Latest updates)
RAM: 8.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 802MHz (11-11-11-28
NIC on MB Realtek PCIe GBE

Disabled TCP/IPV6. No solution.
I suspect it is one of the "Advanced" settings for the Realtek PCIe GBE, but I don't know what they do.
Anytime I disable and re-enable the network adapter my upload speed returns to normal. I haven't been able to isolate a particular action that causes the slow-down.
The attached pics show speed test, before and after disable - re-enable network adapter. Same server.
Any Ideas ?

My computer keeps freezing and the performance seems to be much worse than when I first bought the computer. I did scans with norton and it finds a few viruses however there is problems with the software and it wont remove them. I dont want to have to reformat, so I was wondering if there are any programs that can clean up the computer.

A:Poor performance and freezing

What viruses does it report that you have?
You may need to go onto the Norton website and see if there is any special software to remove the virus or a manual method of removing them.

hey there. i just recently built a new computer out of parts from my old comp and new ones i bought. its been doing just fine up untill recently, where it freezes if i open any game as recent as cod4 and medieval total war 2. usually the screen blinks black and then freezes right after it loads a map. its just getting worse.
for background, my ram and my cpu are somewhat in conflict, like i have a pentium d dual core and my ram is meant for the i7 processors. i only realized that when the stuff came in the mail but i was like meh, ill just try it out. but now, even on big battles in warcraft it drops down to like 15 fps and stuff. its just pitiful.
could it just be the conflict between my cpu and ram thats causing the freezing and sluggishness or could it be something else?
thank you guys

I'm running Win XP - SP1 with all current updates along with Outlook 2002 and Office 2003.

A couple of days ago (Jan. 4th, PM) IE began freezing/locking up every time I opened it or tried to change screens. I'm running Firefox right now since it's the only way I can get to the web. I don't like the program as well as IE, but at least it's working.

I couldn't find anything out of kilter afterscanning with AdAware, Spybot and AVG, and I have SpyBlaster and Microsoft AntiSpyware running full time.

I did a system restore last night back to Jan. 1 when things were running ok, but it hasn't made any difference.

I ran HJT with a newly downloaded version, but didn't see anything that jumped out at me. I'll need to run another one when someone is available to review it since I've had to reboot several times. Please let me know when you can review it.

I'm currently running Stinger from the McAfee web site to see if there are any Trojan viruses involved, but nothing is showing yet.

Any help would be appreciated...

Then i logged in again but my wireless was not working, i have googled the solutions and tried to start the WLAN Autocofig service but its throwing an error : 1053 : The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely manner.

Suddenly the speed of my laptop reduced drastically. Now its taking almost 12 mins to start instead of 2 mins.

I have also removed some lines from the test files from the registry as mentioned in the below website as a resolution, but its not working.

A:[SOLVED] Wireless not working and Laptop's speed reduced drastically

Why did it stop working? How did it behave? What did you do before that?

Have you tried using System Restore?

You can still restore your laptop to the factory configuration without using a Windows media disc. If it came with Windows pre-installed you can try this:

1. Start or restart the computer.
2. Press F8 until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears.
3. Press down arrow key to select Repair Your Computer.
4. Specify the language sttings that you want and then click Next.
5. Log in as a user with administrative credentials and click OK.
6. Click Dell Factory Image Restore.
7. Click Next.
8. Select "yes, reformat har drive and restore system software to factory condition".
9. Click Next.
10. When done, click Finish to restart.

You should start using the manual or manuals for your computer. They can be very helpful. Since you didn't provide me with the model number of your Dell Studio I have only provided you with instructions for Dell Studio 1535 or 1536. You can find the manuals for this model here:

The instructions for your particular model may be different. Which is why you should always provide the model number for better help. The model above had Windows Vista pre-installed. I see you are using Windows 7. But I think the procedure should be pretty much the same for all Dell Studio models. Just don't quote me if it does not work the same way on your model.

Hey All,

I use Vista Home Edition 32-bit on a three-year old ASUS laptop, and run AVG anti-virus software with regular updates. I'm looking for general direction here, because I'm not at my computer right now, so I can't give exact names and numbers of my system (I will come back and add them), but I wanted some advice as to where to start investigating this issue I've been having.

My DSL service (Verizon) keeps freezing and pausing when I surf or watch streaming video (ie; Netflix - I can hardly watch instantly on Netflix anymore, the downloading freezes so much). This issue has gotten worse in the past few weeks, but it's been a problem for a while, maybe a year and a half or so. When I surf, the lights on my modem will stop blinking for a while, during which time my internet activity pauses--no links are clickable, the timer runs on and on (seems forever), and then the modem lights will begin to blink again, restoring surfing ability. It really slows down my internet performance.

I called Verizon to inquire, and they said it was because I had too many processes running. Yes, I have too many processes running--about 90-100 at a time--but I've read elsewhere that's not really relevant to this issue. Verizon did a download/upload test and my modem and it was indeed getting way below the speed it should be getting. The woman said I needed to take my computer to an IT person to get it checked out.

Now, before I go that far, if you had this problem--what would you do, or chec... Read more

So my 8800 GT is giving me some trouble. I've never had an issue with it before, until recently, and I'm not sure what's caused it.

Sometimes my computer freezes after boot up, anywhere from when the Windows logo appears to when my desktop has loaded and I'm using applications five minutes later. Then I have to turn it off and start up again. Also, when I listen for the fan immediately after pressing the on switch, it usually whizzes for about two seconds before I hear the beep, but recently it's been whizzing for up to ten before continuing to boot, and my monitor shows nothing during this period.

My graphics card performance is now erratic. I've been playing Far Cry 2 recently, and when I first started the graphics were smooth; now the models can be aliased framerate can be awful, and it gets worse when zooming in with a sniper rifle or similar. If I reinstall the drivers for the GeForce, sometimes Far Cry runs smoothly like before, but all it takes is a restart for it to go rubbish again.

Specs are in my profile. Temps are... let me just start up SpeedFan... whoa. GPU at 78C? That can't be right? Or has it always been like that? I can't remember. Hmm. How do I check if my GPU fan is working correctly? Anyway 'System' and 'CPU' temps are a comfortable 46C and 33C respectively.

So has anyone heard of these symptoms before? Thanks in advance.

hi, i have updated to windows 8.1 and recently i have having a lot of problems with how slowly my computer is running. May i say I have spent a lot and I mean a lot of time trying to fix this problem and I know it has nothing to do with disk space, viruses or drivers. this is has been messing with my network adapter and has been giving me gateway accessibility problems even though there is nothing wrong with my connection proof being that if i diagnose the problem in my adapter it resets the adapter just to have the same problem later until reset it again and the connection and all my devices is fine. this problem includes a momentary cursor pause at random times that only effects my trackpad if i plug a mouse in it works while my track pad is non functional, this can last from anywhere from usually 2-10 minutes until my trackpad becomes functional again. im not even getting "not responding" messages when it when it freezes at random times, i just have to wait until i hear that chime that sound like it comes from an information box then everything goes back to slow again and barely functional. this problem includes playing media, being that when i play media it takes anywhere from 2-15 minutes before it starts playing, this media can be from playing music and videos on my hard drive to videos on youtube. when i start up my computer it works fine for a bit like 5-10 minutes then starts being slow again with sending information to execute actions (mainly media actions... I've had my laptop serviced a couple of months ago, and last week ran a full Defraggler scan.

However my computer continues to have poor performance. The only programs I have running are:
Kaspersky Total Security
Malwarebytes Premium
Misc. Toshiba/Microsoft background tasks

I only have two programs running at any one time, which 9/10 is Photoshop Elements and a Windows Explorer window, maybe one Firefox tab. Otherwise I run Outlook, Microsoft OneNote + Word, OR Adobe Acrobat DC Pro + Word. I never have any of these running all at once. I also scan documents and comics/art a lot with my Canon flatbed or my Brother duplex scanner. I do use iTunes often for my Apple stuff but nothing else is open at that time.

Regardless, if I try to highlight a folder or an item in a window, I get the blue pinwheel of death and my system will hang or freeze for perhaps five minutes before it will let me delete, copy/paste, or do whatever to the highlighted item. It will also hang during boot up and sometimes I have to force-shutdown or my computer will never actually boot up.

What can I do to fix this? Do I need to post my system's specs? I have no viruses, trojans, or malware. I don't do heavy things like gaming, video editing, or website/flash/illustrator design.

My Toshiba laptop did have 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD when I initially bought it a year ago.

A:General poor performance, pinwheel of death, freezing

Their are many things that can cause this problem. Here are some starting points.
1. I recommend only using Windows 7 built in defrag.

2. A lot of things over time can gather in msconfig/Startup and NON Microsoft Services and need a little cleaning.

Could you post a picture like this from your system?
Use this tutorial by Brink.

***I notice your system specs show Windows 7/32 with 8 gigs of ram.

Windows 7/32 can only recognize up to 4 gigs of ram.
For Windows 7 to be able to use 8 gigs of ram you will need Windows 7/64.

Update: 01/11/2015 ~ Start Maintenance (Crash / Auto-Restart Bug)
Just thought I'd update you all on something else that I should mention:
When I go into 'Security & Maintenance.' I set the time for automatic Maintenance. But when I click 'Start Maintenance' - It won't even work. It just gives me BSOD, and then restarts my PC. Wow, I have no idea WTF is going on with this lately...

Okay, first of all...I usually can take this. A few slight errors causing a slight problem with the OS. But this is not one of those errors. This is a problem that just keeps on making more problems arise from what should be functional.

Error: Keeps on crashing when Opera / Google Chrome is running. It takes time but some reason it happens . . .

I checked Security & Maintenance- Monitor Reports:

Does anyone know why this keeps happening? I've tried re-installing my AMD drivers, and that don't seem to fix it. I have 2 PCs, one an HP laptop, the other an ASUS desktop, that are both pretty well configured almost identically, same programs installed, same settings and tweaks.

I?m running the latest version of 8GadgetPack on both and had no problems at all for months. (I only use the MS clock, calendar, and weather gadgets.) Then a couple weeks ago they started freezing on my laptop. I noticed the clock was almost 45 minutes behind one day. I tried to double-click it and then right-click on it and then tried the other 2 gadgets. All 3 were frozen. I closed all 3 down with the task manager and re-opened them. They ran fine for about 5 minutes then froze again. (The clock stopping is the give-away.)

I did a system clean with CCleaner and then rebooted. The gadgets loaded and worked for about 5 mins again and then froze up again. After a few days of trying to solve this I decided ?screw it? and went to uninstall it. I saw a ?Repair/Reset? option on the uninstall screen and decided to try that first. It worked, and the gadgets started running normally again and continued to do so for a few weeks. I thought the problem was fixed. Today, out of nowhere, the freezing started again (I noticed the clock had stopped)! I tried the reset again, which didn?t work this time. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Still freezing. Now I?m at a loss.

I have a number of Latitude E6520 computers that are all exhibiting the same performance problems.
While using the computer normally, users complain of very slow performance and applications reporting that they are not responding. On visiting a computer which has the problem, the following very specific symptoms are found:

The computer works normally for a short time, then suddenly stops responding to user input.
During this lagging behavior, the computer does not respond to user input, but some screen updates do continue. More specifically...

Mouse cursor can be moved around the screen
Hourglass cursor may or may not appear
Clicking the mouse on an on-screen button has no effect, not even visually (The animation of the button being depressed does not occur.)
Typing or pressing keys pressed on the keyboard have no effect
Hitting Ctrl-Alt-Del does bring up the lock menu, however it does so much more slowly than normal
If the freeze lasts long enough, an "Application is not responding" message may appear for the active application
After a few seconds, the computer resumes working normally again. At that time, typed characters may suddenly appear in a document, or mouse clicks made during the lag might suddenly take effect.
Once the problem begins happening, it grows worse. The delays tend to grow longer, and the time between them grows shorter, until it becomes impossible to get any productive work done.
Rebooting the computer always resolves the problem, but o... Read more

Only because sometimes problems of this nature arise from the simplest little things I ask:

What does your Windows Update scheme look like
Have you downloaded ALL available updates
are you scheduled to receive recommended updates the same way you receive critical updates
Have you made the jump to Microsoft Update (the option on the windows update page below the progress bar)

Once you install Microsoft Update it behaves the same way as Windows Update except that it's more thorough and covers some important hardware issues.  Frequently this  step will iron out some of the most obscure and difficult problems.

Hi, I played the cod4 demo on my laptop with the following settings:

Textures - Normal
Texture Filtering - Trilinear
Anisotropic filtering - Full
Model Detail - Normal
Ragdoll - On
Rest - Lowest settings

I can get a good 30+fps and in close quarters I get 70+.

Can I run the full game (sp and mp) with the same settings and get the same fps? I'm particularly worried about maps with lots of grass (overgrown, epic sniper level in sp) as I heard it kills the frame rate.

Also just wondering, how come I can't set model detail to high? Do I need SM3.0 for that?

Hello, I'm having an issue with my computer.

My computer has started to restart/freeze up on me. The thing is, it has graphical issues once it freezes/tries to reboot. I get all these lines through the screen, graphical glitches when trying to go through the BIOS, etc. The computer isn't too slow, it isn't acting strange, the only thing that is wrong is the obvious freezing/restarting with graphical lines and glitches once it freezes.

My video card has been going out for a long time(I share a computer with a few people and they seem to think the video card is ok, but I have always seen small glitches in graphics here and there), so I am thinking maybe this might be a problem, given the graphical glitches, the horizontal lines going through the screen once it freezes.

When it hits the BIOS, it sometimes shows these same lines with the screen going mostly black.

System specs are:

CPU - Core 2 Duo, speed I don't remember.

Video Card - Geforce 7900 GT 512mb

Ram - 2GB DDR2

Motherboard - Asus, P5N-E SLI

I got this computer a few years back and I am not one to keep updated with specs or talk about them often, so I have forgotten the speed of the CPU and I do not know if I am missing information for you guys.

Solutions I have tried:

Overheating - I used air to filter out all dust/dirt that might be there to harm the computer, I have plenty of fans in there, etc.

Any and all help will be appreciated, Thank you.

A:Solved: Computer Freezing/freezing/graphical glitchs

If you're getting graphical 'glitches' while in bios, that's usually a good sign that your graphics card is having issues - however, I have seen this happen with faulty ram. I'd recommend reseating the cards (ensure your computer is off and unplugged whilst doing so) and see if that helps
