Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 15 Active Pen

Q: Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 15 Active Pen

Hey Guys I'm rather confused about the pen support for the new Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 15. I've read quite a bit about it and find the information quite inconsistent. Some say it does support active pen some say it will in april and some say it doesn't. What I would like to know:A.) What kind of pen technology does the Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 15 support atm?B.) Are there any changes in sight? / When? / What changes?C.) Can I write on it while resting my hand on the screen aka has it palm rejection?D.) How good is it for note taking? Can it keep up with my writing speed? Links to videos where I can actually see it being used / tested would be greatly appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

From what I know there isn't too much information out so far. But here's what I found out. First off, the current Thinkpad Yoga 14 and 15 don't support pen digitizers at all, and will not in the future.Secondly, the Toshiba Encore 2 Write apparently uses the same technology. See this thread. Here's what I know:- It's called Wacom "Active ES" as in Active Electro Static.- It's battery powered. Unlike Wacom's older technology, you need a battery in the pen.- Palm rejection is more of a driver thing and not the technology. So it works, basically.- People say it feels "different", not sure if that means better or worse.- Precision is apparently very good, perhaps even better than the older tech without battery.- Pen lag (speed) doesn't seem to be an issue. Might even be better than the older technology. Other than that I personally couldn't find any information about whatever will be built into the Thinkpad Yoga 14 and 15 Only that they call it "Active Pen" and that it will be out in April. Also that the displays will support something called "anypen" which basically means you can use any pen-shaped metal object to write on the display. But that isn't really of any interest to me because I want pressure sensitivity.

Hello Lenovo Community! Note: I do realise that there have been many related threads but after hours of research I still feel a bit lost and confused... I?m about to purchase a new laptop and I decided to go for another ThinkPad. The Yoga series seems like a nice and portable alternative for my current laptop + Wacom tablet setting. What made picking a particular one difficult is the fact that I need to be sure it?s pen enabled (with pressure sensitivity). The 12?s seem to be a safe choice as they have built-in pen slots, however they are also a little bit too small for my artistic needs. My dream TPY is at least 14? and has dedicated graphics and I?ve actually seen them around. The problem is that they don?t have a pen included I don?t know how to check if they work with digitizers. If I understand correctly, digitizer support is an option for 14?/15? models, so: How to check if a particular TPY supports the digitizer? Is there any indication of it in the detailed model code?If it isn?t that easy to verify, could those of you who already have a 14?/15? share their model codes so we could list them for future generations of pen-obsessed TPY seekers?  Thank you in advance for any help (including closing this thread and directing me to a place where the answer is! )

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

Just picked up a new Thinkpad Yoga. Definitely thrilled by the specifications, it seems to be the perfect laptop for me combining dedicated graphics, 2 in 1 capability, and most importantly, a wacom pen. However, upon getting it home, I find the pen doesn't work whatsoever. Curious, I went back to Best Buy and tried the pen on the display model. That one doesn't work either.Do these have some sort of widespread issue with the digitizer pens not working? Is there any known fix for this?

Hello everyone I was wondering if anyone knows whether the Lenovo Active Pen is also compatible with the yoga 920, or whether only the Lenovo Active Pen 2 works. Moreover, I was wondering if the Lenovo Active Pen also looses contact when writing if you hold the pen close to the nub. Thanks! for your help

A:Lenovo yoga 920 compatible with Lenovo active pen

Hi huQbbTCi,

Greetings.

Lenovo active pen 1 is also compatible with Yoga 920 as shown in the accessories search tool here PART # GX80K32884. It would be less sensitive to depth perception but with palm rejection enabled then you may not have the same issue on losing contact with it.

It would also be favorable to have it tried first before any purchase specially if you have someone that have it and compare it with other active pens whichever would be comfortable and efficient to your writing style.

Hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

I just purchased the Active pen 2 for my Yoga 730. I installed the batteries perfectly, and started working immediately in Clip Art Studio. I devoted HOURS into a current project, when suddenly the pen stopped writing. I closed the program, and started immediately looking for clues as to why it stopped drawing. I went to the Lenovo sketchpad and it was working fine. I installed the Lenovo Active pen 2 drivers from the Lenovo website, I've connected and unconnected the bluetooth in the pen, and finally opened the settings in Lenovo and tried to calibrate the pen. Nothing seems to be working.  I then downloaded Krita, thinking that maybe it was just Clip Art Studio, and it seems to be working somewhat. However, it draws sometimes, and then another issue I'm noticing is that if the pen is close to the screen it starts drawing (without it touching the screen) so obviously the picture gets messed up with random spots of pen lines. I pulled up a online drawing page, and tried to use the pen, but I'm getting the same issue. So, I'm certain its a pen error. Has anyone had this issue? do you think its the 2 x sr527sw batteries, as one site suggested? Here's an example of me trying to write in Krita. As you can see the random lines that pop out of nowhere when you're near the screen.Krita Test Page

Hi, I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro (type 80AY, BY05331786) laptop. A week ago I bought the Lenovo Active Pen (Not the Active Pen 2).  I have trouble connecting the pen with my laptop. It does not connect to it nor does it even notice it. I activated the bluetooth on the laptop, tried updating the drivers... you name it. Even bought 2 different batteries, just to test if the pen even works. I tried installing some software that I found on the Windows store, but it is for the ActivePen2. Unfortunately i did not found any possible way to even know if the pen works or not. Any ideas?

I just purchased this 2 in 1 with the Active Pen, and cannot get it to work with the drivers that Lenovo specifies, and I have also tried several different drivers from Wacom.  The Pen will pair with Bluetooth, but will not stay connected.  The batteries are all in correctly, but the pen will not stay connected or activate anything on screen.  Also, I am not able to get the touch screen to work either, so I am wondering if there is an issue with the digitizer, or that it may be missing drivers for the touchscreen and digitizer.  Does anyone have any ideas what could solve this issue?

Hi,  I was a happy user of Lenovo Active Pen 2, but recently it has stopped working. By this, I mean that it does not produce any reaction from the touch screen when I tap the screen with it, although successfully connected to the laptop as the Bluetooth device. I have checked and re-installed the drivers and the software (Lenovo Pen Settings). I have also tried to replace the battery twice, and that seemed a right thing to do, at first: for several seconds after the replacement, the pen was working, indeed. Suddenly, the screen would stop reacting to the pen clicks and touches and would never react anymore. As I mentioned, I have observed the similar behaviour twice.  I would be very glad to get any assistance except for the most obivous advice like "Please double-check the drivers and the device batteries". Thanks a lot.

Hello everyone, Hope you're all doing well. I just have this weird issue with my 920, where the active pen 2 top barrel stops working for some reason. The top of the pen button usually stops working with it as well but if I connect it to the bluetooth, the function will return. I can't seem to get the top barrel to work except by either deleting the driver and reinstalling or restarting the computer. The behaviour is really weird considering the pen writing never breaks and the bottom barrel always works. If anyone has any advice, please let me know! (or a driver update I don't know about ?????)  P.S: I've tried wacoms generic drivers and lenovo's (with their respective apps) and the issue still persists

Hello, I just bought a Lenovo yoga 520 from a local retailer yesterday. It came with the Lenovo Active Pen. I tried to draw on Paint Tool SAI at night and I would just like to ask if it is normal that the tablet screen register my pinky (since it touches the screen first before the pen tip) before the actual pen? It is a bit distruptive when i am drawing because it will create a stroke by my pinky which I do not want. This morning when I tried to draw again, the pen to have some odd behavior. If I do a quick stroke/flick and lift my pen away from the screen, the stroke will not follow through and the screen is temporarily disabled and does not respond to mouse clicks or hand touches (as if I did not lift the pen up at all.) I have to tap the screen again with my pen and the stroke will connect to where I tapped. This issue does not happen when I wear a piece of cloth on my palm or if I draw the stroke slowly and life it up slowly. So I would just like to ask:1. If I buy a Bamboo styus (which I am aware is compatible with Yoga 520,) will I be able to draw faster strokes with smoother follow through?2. Is this a normal problem faced by fellow artists too?

Hi, can someone confirm that all Yoga 720 models work with a Lenovo Active Pen? The only model that's sold with a pen is $600 more expensive than the next most expensive model (with basically the same spec minus the pen). Given that a pen isn't anywhere near $600, it gives me concern that the rest of the models (without an included pen) won't work with a pen that could be purchased separately. Thanks.

I would not be surprised if this is completely operator error - I've never used a stylus / pen for a computer before.  I just received my Yoga 920, along with an Active Pen 2.  I was able to sync the pen to the bluetooth, and double clicking the top button brings up the screen sketch application, but I cannot otherwise get the pen to work.  I can write in the screen sketch with my finger, but the pen does nothing.  Is there a driver or application I need?  On the instructions I found here:https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/options/lenovo_active_pen2_qsg_v2.0_201705.pdfIt says "to customize the button functions use Wacom pen application" so I downloaded that from online.  It doesn't recognize that my pen is linked, even though the bluetooth menu says it is, and upon further reading on the Wacom app site, it does not appear that the Active Pen 2 is supported. Is there something I'm missing or not doing correctly?  I don't see any similar problem in these forums, at least not specific to the yoga 920.

Hello, Yesterday I bought a new lenovo yoga 720 (15) along when lenovo active pen 2. The laptop is fantastic, but the pen experience is not great. It is not writing smoothly. I had to put some pressure to write on the screen. At first I thought the pen is faulty, however I noticed that at some parts of the screen the pen is able to write so smoothly, whereas in other parts, the pen is facing friction. I don't know what to make of it. I cleaned the screen, changed the nibs, tested on different apps (one note, xodo) but it is showing the same behavior. To be specific, the left bottom and right bottom of the screens are smooth to write on whereas the top area is causing friction.  Any solutions to resolve this?  Thank you
