Error message upon BIOS flash

Q: Error message upon BIOS flash

I have an ABIT KV-85 motherboard that may some problems. I've experienced them mainly in Windows but also during the bootup. I'm getting a "Verifying DMI Pool Data" hangup that lasts about 15 seconds. It's really annoying.

I've Googled on it and one person said it might be a corrupt BIOS. So I figured it could'nt hurt to at least try something, I thought I would flash my BIOS back to a not-so-current version and see if that helps. Actually it's one version less than the most current.

Anyway I booted up my Vista Basic x64 with the Windows 98 startup disk. It's the only way I know how to get to the A prompt! Once there I took out the startup disk and inserted the floppy with all of the files on it and selected runme. That's one way ABIT says I could do it.

The flash process started and I got all of the confirmation messages and such and it listed the .bin file that was to be flashed. Just right after it started erasing the previous BIOS, it stopped and an error message came up that said
"FlashROM is write protected" cannot proceed, or something like that. So I aborted and am left wondering what I did wrong or how do I fix it.

I should note that the awdflash that's on the floppy is a x64 version.

Thank you

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Without knowing I restarted the laptop and what happened is the screen just go blank after that not even BIOS menu appeared. Only the fan sound I can heard and saw some blinking light from the power LED.

I've recently installed Macromedia Flash MX 2004 with the idea of using as a tool for designing webpages. Everything was fine until I was asked to download Flash ActiveX 9.0 (which I already had) and I couldn't. I tried uninstalling Flash MX 2004 and then installing the ActiveX, but it was useless. Then I looked for help at Adobe site and I got the same results: nothing. I'm thinking that it can be some problem with the registry, because after installing Flash MX 2004 I was warned about a registry change by Scott Patrol (security program). If someone can help me, I would be grateful.

Hello all!

I am using windows 7 home premium 64 bit. So far no major problems and I really like the new operating system. I was looking in the even viewer and noticed that every time I plug in a usb flash drive, I get the following message.
"The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\DR3".
The flash drive works just fine and there are no other apparent problems with the computer. Is this something I should be concerned with?

I ran a check on the drive and there is plenty of space left and no problems with it. Help!

I have a DV4-1435DX notebook with the F.12 bios. I downloaded the newest bios ver F66A update from the support page and tried to install only to get the message " there isn't any rom file in this directory". I also downloaded the 3 older versions and got the same results with the exception that one of them left up a dos box which said the vga ID didn't match. Has anyone run into this and been able to resolve the problem? The laptop runs ok on the F12 bios with the exceptions of telling me my new battery is bad, but it checks out fine on another DV4 laptop, and the power light at the AC adaptor plug only coming on when the power button is pressed, which is not the same as others i have tried, usually the light comes on as soon as you plug in the adaptor. I understand Adobe Flash will not update due to brccmctl.

Have you tried HardBeatZ's suggestions to locate the program?  The program that brccmctl refers to is ControlCenter3 which is printing software for Brother's printers.

By chance, do you use a Brother printer?  If so, you can ensure that any brother process is ended in the task manager (right-click the task bar to get task manager).

The simplest option may be to temporarily disable the startup programs to update Adobe and then re-enable the startup prorams.  This can be done by going to start, searching for msconfig, opening this result, and unchecking the startup items.  Once Adobe is installed, go back to msconfig to enable the startup programs.

Let me know what happens.

Good chance he 'fragged' his bios with bad ram - shut down, pull the power plug, press the power 'ON' button, make SURE you are grounded, open case, remove bios battery for 10 minutes.

Re-install the battery, close case, re-insert power plug, re-start.

Dell Vostro 1510 laptop with Windows 7 Pro 64bit.

I noticed svchost.exe was using 100% of CPU.

I did the following that did NOTresolve the issue:

1. I installed a new hard drive (W7)

2. I went to task manager / processes / "show processes from all users" / and attempted to stop all the related services, approximately 8. 4 of them stopped and no improvement. The other 4 would not let me stop them.

3. I've been reading Dell, SevenForums.com and several other related sites, found many causes/solutions, tried them all but haven't resolved it.

4. I removed fan and cleaned out all dust. Fan runs fine. Thermal paste is good.

5. Installed CPUID HW MONITOR and cpu is not running hot. it's at 76 celsius (67 - 85 is the acceptable range)

6. Ran malwarebytes, custom scan. Nothing found.

7. Ran Avast boot time scan, nothing found.

*** The strangest thing is that my Bios version is A12. I downloaded A13 and A15 from Dell.com. When I attempt the Bios flash I get an error message that the "winphlash sw tool by phoenix tech cannot load driver. This driver has been blocked error code 1275. Confirm you have administrator priveledges". ***

- Therefore, is there a glitch/virus in the Bios causing this? Or is it unrelated and something else is causing it?

Hi guys,
My Laptop Inspiron 1525,Windows 7Ultimate,32 bit, started to display an out- of-date error frequently ,When I adjust the date and time  setting in the BIOS ,the problem again appears on the next day.Would anyone suggest a remedy for this problem.

A:BIOS error(out of date) frequent message

Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? Is the adapter frayed? Could you test with another power adapter if possible?
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point. Check the battery health in BIOS (if applicable).
If possible, update / flash the BIOS - http://dell.to/2dcAKFq
Restart and enter BIOS and reset defaults - save and exit and check again. Also, ensure the time in Windows is set to current local time and date.
If the issue is still unresolved, then download the service manual here - http://dell.to/2cEg4VT - and reseat the cmos battery and check.
If it still does not work, then replace the CMOS battery, you would need this part - http://bit.ly/2cOxWuM
If the issue stands unresolved, then you would need to replace the motherboard.
Personally, I would suggest you to invest your money on a new machine than to repair this old system.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

How you have installed the old BIOS? Older BIOS versions are not available on Toshiba website and downgrade can only be done from an authorized service provider because special BIOS update program is necessary.

Satellite X200-191 belongs to PSPB9E series so have you downloaded the update for this model or other model (PSPBUE) that would be wrong?

I read about similar messages here in forum and the reason was a replaced mainboard and the ASP did forget to write the DMI information. Did you exchange the mainboard?

My desktop has been acting up some odd ways, most recent is this BSOD that happens basically as soon as everything has finished loading after booting up. I recently attempted to flash the BIOS (hoping it might fix one of the aforementioned odd problems), so I assume that must have something to do with this newest development.

Just finished reading the BSOD Posting Instructions thread, but I'm already coming up against a dilemma. The only way the computer stays on long enough for me to do anything is if I'm in Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking, but this means that I can't generate the System Health Report for Step 3 in that thread (looked up the error message it gave, was told to start a specific service, but starting that service gave me an error that said it could only be done outside of Safe Mode).

I wasn't clear as to what steps I need to take after I've gotten through Step 2 (which I've done) in order to successfully generate the dump file in a format that can be attached along with the System Health Report, but since I couldn't create that part anyway I figured I'd go ahead and at least get started by asking for advice as to how to proceed from this point.

Here's all the relevant info I can see from a photo I snapped of the BSOD:

I got however the message "the user is not authorized to update BIOS".

This message is quite surprising since I have admnistrator privileges.

I read that one can use a diskette to update, but I don't have one ...

So, Is there a way to update the Bios with CD ?

A:Satellite Pro M30 - Error message: User is not authorized to update BIOS

I checked the Toshiba European driver page and found the BIOS 1.7 WIN version in the ARCHIVE area.

As you can see it's a BIOS Windows version and not a traditional BIOS version (trad BIOS can be updated using the diskette).
This Win BIOS can be upgraded only from running Win OS.

Anyway, I see you have installed the SP3. This could have a bad influence on the BIOS update.
So maybe you should try to update the BIOS without installed SP3?

Remove the SP3, download the right BIOS, unzip it correctly and then try to execute the BIOS update file.

_PS: If you notebook runs trouble free then a BIOS update is not necessary!!!_

Hello. The model no. under the battery is 14- 1110NR. On the display it says in red and white beatsaudio and the beats logo is on the lower part of the laptop. Can someone clarify if I have a Beats laptop or just an Envy. The problem is that after I downloaded the latest BIOS update and rebooted - about 15 days ago- my laptop wont pass the BIOS Update screen. I keep getting the Error Message The System BIOS Recovery failed. and the system restarts and wont pass this screen.  I have followed each different post that claims to solve the problem. None of them have worked for me. I cant even boot up off of the restore cds.  I am very frustrated that I cant find a solution. I dont think it would be this hard to fix. I am not sure what to do. I have downloaded and installed the 1) oldest bios update 2) the newest bios update 3) BIOS UEFI tool 4) the Sys Diagnostic UEFi tool. I have tried at least 6 different solutions and my laptop is still going through the same cycle and I cannot fix this. Please help [email protected] I am so frustrated.

Hello @ all,I got myself a L430 last February and like working with this laptop.Within this laptop there is an Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2200 (2x2), PCIe Half Mini Card [1] plugged-in.Like described in the linked article the card is only usable for the 2.4 GHz band but I realized this only after bying the laptop. At home we normally have a 5 GHz band and I'm only able to use it at the moment using an external wlan stick. That could not be that hard we thought, because for Lenovo laptops there are manuals out there describing how to swap such a WLan card. We decided to take the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 because this card should work with my L430.We ordered the new card and plugged it in. But after every restart the laptop beeps twice and gives an error message: Unauthorized Wireless USB card is plugged in - Power off and remove the Wireless USB card. (error 1805)There our quest started. On the site I mentioned last is described we should update to "Intel Wireless LAN (11abgn, abg, bg) for Windows 7 version or higher", but now the links doesn't get you anywhere. Some weeks ago, when we tried this, we updated the driver more than once but without success for the new wlan card and at the moment I'm stuck to use the 2.4 GHz band (or use the external wlan stick). Why doesn't allow my L430 swapping the wlan card? The new one is from the same manufacturer, both have the same number of antennaes. The laptop was no discount product and nowhere in the papers I read that only so... Read more

Hi LittleF, You can't install any peripherals on a Thinkpad. Thinkpad always had the Whitelist included in the bios. That means only approved peripherals can be installed in your machine.Refer to the Hardware Maintenance Manual to find compatible parts: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/l430_l530_hmm_en_0b48570_02.pdf Vince.

Im working on a Toshiba Laptop A105-4284, Model #: PSAA8U-0FH02K that froze while trying to flash the BIOS, so I didnt know what else to do but shut it off. Now, when I try to boot it up, it gets stuck in the same place it did during the flashing; on the Toshiba splash screen with the status bar at the bottom showing about 20% complete. I cant get into the BIOS and cant boot into Windows. Other options available on this screen are Press F2 for System Settings and F12 for Boot Menu. Pressing F2 results in a beep and the status bar changing to "Please Wait..." but nothing else happens no matter how long I wait. Pressing F12 doesnt do anything. Pressing ESC takes me to a screen that shows the typical system info -- Phoenix Technologies Version 6.00; Intel Calistoga CRB.T3A Reference BIOS; VERSION.MAK 1.53; (looks like its running POST and recognizes CPU, Cores, No TPM or TPM has a problem, and system RAM and stops there. What is my best course of action?:

- shorting out the CMOS battery (I've tried this on the solder pads marked C88, with no laptop battery, with and without the wi-fi, ram and hdd installed; Im either doing it wrong or its just not working )
- trying to reflash BIOS chip (I tried this; turned the laptop on and held down the 'c' key to boot from cd, but still got stuck at the same place)
- replacing the BIOS chip
- something else?

Any guidance or information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

A:Toshiba A105: Failed BIOS flash; now no BIOS access & won't boot

Im trying to figure out why I've had no replies yet.

Have I asked a stupidly easy question that everyone is rolling their eyes to and cant bear to tell me the answer? Or have I stumped everyone?

I have a hard time believing this is a stumper. I've found the same question posted elsewhere on the net and shorting the CMOS seemed to help. That or removing the battery altogether (its soldered to the board), but I dont think Im doing it right. Can someone give me directions on that?

or is this just a lost cause? :-/

Thanks in advance

Hello everyone! I ama new user and i am coming up with this post as I couldn`t find any kind of solution for my problem.Recently I decided to do a reinstallation of my operating system, which also previously was Windows 7 Ultimate (x64). The installation went as usual, and after finishing it I went on to install all the latest drivers from the Lenovo site, for my product. When getting close to installing almost all the drivers i`ve needed, i stumbled upon a new version of the BIOS amnd the drivers and sfotware recommended for my laptop, by the producer. So i proceeded to install the upgrade, restarted the computer when it prompted me to do so, but after the so-called restart the laptop did not boot up as usual. At first it was telling me to not do anything as the BIOS is being flashed and then it was telling me something about some sort of image processing, things that i did not understand at the time (i have never encountered anything like that). After that my screen turned black. I have not done anything for a few couple of minutes as i thought it was supposed to be like that, but then i just force shut it down and unplugged the AC adapter. When trying to boot it all up again, the only thing i got was a black screen and nothing else. After doing a little bit of research it appears that, somehowm i`ve managed to corrupt the bios on my laptop or something, and nothing else would work at this point. I tried to remove the BIOS battery and the ram and then put them all back, trye... Read more

A few days ago I had some problems with my HDD so I brought a new one.  To install Windows in the new drive I plugged in the DVD drive that Lenovo ships with the laptop and tried to boot from it. That failed and BIOS got like "programmed" or stuck with configurations that doesn't let it recognise any boot media no matter if it is a USB stick or HDD, no matter if I try to change the configuration of the BIOS it would always get back to the initial state of not being able to boot I even tried to reset it by unplugging its battery and the laptop battery but the only thing that happens is system time starting from 0 while any other configuration stays the same.  I thought this could be fixed using crisis recovery mode, but the laptop doesn't recognise the BIOS loaded on the USB and never make any sort of beep or alert noises, the screen doesn't show anything either and fans just get to 100% I really need help to solve this problem, it's like the BIOS got stuck in the last configurations before plugging the DVD drive in. (The Boot menu still showing that there's a USB booteable device even when it is not plugged in).

I tried using HP BIOS Flashing utility on my HP Z400 Workstation, and it says it can't continue because I have Bitlocker enabled, but I don't have bitlocker on Win 7 Professional 32bit. I don't see it on the control panel or in context menus. I do see it set to manual in "Services" but the service in not running. Is there a way to find drives Bitlocked or are my drives being treated as bitlocked because of my antivirus program AVG?

A:BIOS flash error, BITLOCKER on? No bitlocker installed, Win 7 Pro

In the services window is there and option to disable or turn off...there should be. Just change the startup type from manual to disable and reboot. Then try your BIOS update.

Hey,Im getting blinking Caps lock and light above pg up / end keys. No picture at all on either internal LCD or external monitor with VGA connection. No beeping sound at all. Fans turn on, battery light is stable, DVD player is working with green light etc.I already tried Hard reset / cleaning motherboard and cpu + applying new thermal paste / booting without battery / different ram sticks on different slots etc usual fixes with no luck.Code is 2 blinks on both caps lock and numlock then 3s pause and again 2 blinks, i looked from HP site that it means bios corruption and just tried to do Restoring of bios with Windows + B + Power key multiple times, Laptop continues blinking for 10s and reboots and starts blinking again either 2 blink code or continuous blink ( cpu failure ). but 90% of time its blinking 2x and then few second pause. I tried make bootable bios update usb following this link:http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02693833Only found winflash files for dv6 2007so downloaded those and installed, it wont start hp bios update utility which should give option to make bootable usb with bios file. After isntalltion is just opens insyde bios flash program.... and asks me to flash bios.So how can i make automatic bootable bios update with other computer?thx in advance
