Q: Acer Aspire V5-551 stuck on "acer" screen...

Hello, I have an Acer Aspire V5-551. I forgot the password to my BIOS, so I disassembled the laptop and removed the CMOS battery for 30 minutes. Then I turned it on and noticed that it no longer boots into Windows, it won't let my go into BIOS (still asking for the password) and it won't let me choose boot devices or go into recovery mode / factory reset. It's stuck on the "acer explore beyond limits" screen. Can anyone help me?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

To start off, this laptop has been horrible since the day I got it. I can't even believe how slow it is; it lags doing even the simplest tasks. That aside; I was prompted to update an AMD Catalyst Radeon (something like that) software, so I did. The screen went black and nothing happened for almost 10 hours.I eventually decided to turn off the power. Now that I turn it back on it's just stuck on "Acer explore beyond limits" screen. It has been like this for days now. I've tried turning it on and off again several times. It's just stuck at that screen. What do I do? How do I fix this? I need this computer for school.

Hello. my computer got stuck on BIOS screen a few days After replacing the motherboard. That means that I can't even access to the BIOS Setup nor boot options.I have tried removing all the devices connected to it, even the DVD player. Only removing the Hard Drive allows me to enter the setup and boot options. tried changing the hard drive for a new one and boots OK but after reinstalling the OS the problem comes back.I already tried ti install a different OS version but no changes.Apparently for no valid reason I have been able to boot the OS with both the new and the older Hard Drive a couple of times (always after resetting the BIOS but not every time the result is the same) but after Restarting got stuck again.I don't know if i have a hardware, Software or BIOS Config. problem.Any help from you guys would be great. Thanks for your time. Computer model: ACER Aspire All in One U5-610OS: Windows 10 and tried with 8.1 both the latest version from Microsoft Website.

I did a clean factory reset on windows 8 using the acer recovery option.  Everything was fine until I tried to update to windows 10( I had done the free windows 10 earlier on this machine with no problems.).  After windows 10 installed and the system was done updating, the system said it needed to reboot and now it wont boot up.  It is stuck on the acer boot up screen.  I have tried every option in the recovery section that pops up after 2 unsuccessful reloads.  It just hangs on the acer screen. It wont let me boot to safe mode, I cant reset, I cant restore. I don't care about the files on the pc, I just want the pc to be functional again. I have a good restore image on a usb drive, but the only way it works is within windows with the acer recovery option.  When I try to do the restore or repair options, it just says this pc cant be repaired.  I even tried tried the windows 10 installation/recovery media and recovery using a usb drive and I get an error on that.  I have tried everything I can think of.  Right now the laptop is a brick.  Does anyone have any ideas on a way to repair this thing to make it boot up? Thanks in advance for any help.

I recieved this laptop for my birthday on the 28th May, and has been running absolutley fine until about half an hour ago.
I turned it on and it wouldn't go past the "Acer" start up screen, so I turned it off manually and tried it again. Still the same problem and all the keys do nothing when I press them.

I've tried to look up solutions on the web but the only one says to re-install Vista with a disc, and mine came pre-installed with Vista and NO installation disc.

I'm unsure if this is a Vista problem or an Acer problem, so sorry if its in the wrong board.

Any help on how to fix this?

I restarted my computer like normal and for whatever reason the computer is now stuck at the Acer boot screen. I try to press DEL to enter Setup and I even tried pressing F12 to go into the Boot Setup, but for whatever reason the computer does not respond to anything.

To shut it off I have to hold down the power button and eventually it shuts off.

Stuff to know:
- I have a wireless mouse and keyboard being used on that desktop.. Should I perhaps try to plug in a corded mouse and keyboard?
- I'm running on Windows 7 Ultimate.
Thanks

My Acer Aspire 5612z, Dual-core celeron, 2GB ram, vista home premium 32bit, has two separate problems. Screen is filled with vertical red blue and white vertical stripes, if I tap the screen frame then the picture is ok for 30 mins or so, then goes stripey again. (Poss fault on FL board?).
Second, Laptop boots, 20 seconds, to Acer screen then stops.
Can only switch off power from that point.

A:Acer Aspire screen problem and only boot to Acer screen

Tapping the screen you could have a loose connection from the LCD Panel to the MOBO connector, but you see if you did the screen would dim out. In your case you have the the same issues that tell me that the LCD Panel is faulty. If this unit is still under warranty then have ACER service the unit or take it to ACER dealer who can either send it back to ACER or they can order the panel and replace it for you at no cost, but then it has to be under warranty. If not you'll have to pay the cost of ordering the part, labor to install it. Find out cost prior to signing any agreement.

On your other issue, did you replace or upgrade the battery or memory? If not then remove the battery and plugin the power only. Try this again does it boot the ACER logo and Windows. Can you put your ear down to the keys or palm rest and hear the HDD spinning up?
If not either the HDD is DOA or faulty power module on the MOBO or just bad MOBO. Again same as above if it's under warranty call or take it to ACER factory service dealer.

Make sure if you had a good battery on this laptop that all switches are switched to the lock mode for the battery.

Hi Folks,

I have an ACER One (Model A0531h) netbook. I have now tried several times to recovery it to factory settings using the built in recovery partition. I access this recovery partition by using Alt-f10 during boot. The recovery runs fine up until 99% where it 'sticks'.. for days..The application running the recovery is Acer eRecovery Manager v7.5.15. I have also recovering using the recovery DVD's which I burned. They seem to go through the process but then when I restart the system I get a black screen complaining about missing files. I am then instructed to run recovery...This is driving me crazy.

Please note that I am an IT engineer by trade and have recovered literally hundreds of these devices from all manufacturers with no issues.

I have also reseated the RAM but dont want to have to strip of the cover to reseat hard drive. I can however hear it running and I have also used [email protected] to reformat the C drive. The recovery partition has not been touched and is not damaged. It runs perfectly up to 99%.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated..

My Wife's laptop Acer Aspire One D255 with OS Win 7 Starter, needed to be restored and a clean install, the problem is that when it was first bought no backups were made mainly because it doesn't have a disc drive.

I used the Advanced Recovery Method that was pre-installed to ''Return your computer to factory condition'' and all was well until it got to the last stage 42/42 installing sysprep factory mode.
It hanged there for over 2 hours with no movement or activity light and so i had to force a restart.
Now as far as im aware the re-installation was a success as it boots fine and all programs seem to be there and it is working fine.
what i dont know though is if it will continue to be fine and everything has installed like it should of as the process was forced to close.
The only thing i can see that im not sure was there before is a 2min icon/logo on the welcome/home screen.

How can i be sure if the install completed?
Can i do anything to make sure it does install fully if i need to do it again?
Why did it stick at that point?
What is the 2min logo/icon?

many thanks

A:ACER Aspire System Restore stuck!

I suspect the 42/42 step hangup was not really a problem. If everything works, it should run OK, in the future. If there was a problem because of the step hangup or not installing properly you would see it immediately.

I don't know what the logo/Icon is. I had an Acer but it was a full laptop, not a netbook. I had a Samsung netbook with the Win 7 starter and I had a USB connected CD/DVD burner and was able to create the needed backup discs, if they were ever needed (fortunately they were not).

Greetings All. Tipping a nod to Eister who is also having this issue with an Aspire 5534.See this thread I am building Acer Aspire S7 with a Windows 10 image and they have all been exhibiting this behaviour. If left unattended they go in to sleep mode and there is no way to gain access again except by performing a hard reset. Not good if you didn't save your work. It seems there is a change in the way Windows 10 behaves in sleep mode as we have seen a similar issue in Travelmate P645 models where, once in sleep mode, the Keyboard will not bring the device out of sleep.Only clicking the mouse (or touchpad) and moving the mouse (or your finger on the touchpad) will allow you to access the login screen. Performing some Google-Fu has shown a lot of Windows 10 users having this experience regardless of the hardware on which it is running. However, for the Acer Aspire S7 (and The Aspire 5534) it would seem there is a different issue. We have various BIOS versions on the S7 devices so am unable to determine if that might be a cause. I'd like to try and download the latest BIOS (once the Driver downloads service is back up), to see if that resolves things. Has anyone else had this issue and found a solution please? Regards David

Hello, well it's been over couple months since my laptop hasn't been able to start up. It just stays in the Acer load up screen and turns black and keeps going in a loop. I tried everything for the menu I even tried Resetting PC but it says it cannot reset and I tried restore to a point and it says I have no restore points. I tried everything that I saw on the internet, only thing I didn't was take out the battery I don't know how to I unscrew the bolts on the back but it wouldn't come off. So at this point I don't know what to do I can't afford to get a new one right now. Last time I tried rebooting my laptop that's the main reason it started but I did it wrong, after watching videos I was suppose to do it in the control panel of the computer but by time I found that out it, it was stuck in that loop. I don't have a disc area to put anything in the laptop so that's out of the picture. Please can someone help me get out of this loop.

If this is in the wrong forum I apologize, I was not sure where to put it.

Yesterday I turned my acer laptop on and I got to the "press F2 for setup" screen and then my laptop shut off. And then it proceeded to turn back on, get to the same screen, then turn off.

Pressing F2 or F8 gets me a very scary and loud beeping sound. Then it shuts off.

I already removed the battery and pressed the power button for 30 to 45 seconds and this did not help.

I have tried reseating the harddisk, and removing my expanded RAM to see if that would help, like other forums had suggested. Didn't work.

Right now it is in Startup Repair mode.
I really hope this works.

Before this happened I had trouble with the new iTunes update, and my computet was really slow so I tried running my anti spyware/malware programs, and Microsoft Security Essentials. It found some things but they were removed promptly.

What could possibly be wrong with my computer?

I do not believe it is a problem with the Windows intallation because the computer does not get to the Windows splash screen before rebooting.

So one evening my laptop randomly restarted itself and upon logging back in I found that I could not run almost any of my programs (.exe files). I tried checking for anything unusual in the registry but found nothing. In task manager when I clicked a program or attempted to run it in various ways I would see it pop up for a second before it got killed.

Finding no way of fixing it online I decided I would attempt the factory restore option that comes with the laptop in the system recovery that places all your documents in a C:Backup file. But nearing the end of this an error came up saying 'setup is starting services', which says to restart the computer to continue. But I can no longer get it past this screen. I've tried rebooting it in safe mode as well.

Any help is much appreciated! I don't even particularly mind if I lose my information at this point I just need a working laptop...

i tried to restore it to factory settings (backed up to C file)

it went fine untill it got stuck in a loop saying it couldnt install windows and had to be restarted. i would restart and it would go to the same error over and over

then i tried to use the recovery discs (unsure of how to use them) i hooked up the external drive and powered on but no options came up although the disc was making noise as if activated. i left that going all night but no change.

NOW i power on and only get SETUP IS STARTING SERVICES

i have tried F8, F11, F12, ALT + F10 and nothing

the only thing that worked was shift+F10 (i tried ms00be but got nothing) (i did regedit/child comp/1 changed to 3 etc but nothing)

the only way i can get a response from the computer is SHIFT + F10 or if i press the space bar to "pause system resume" this gives the option to "continue" in which its back to being stuck on the SETUP screen or i could press "delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu" SO should i try to delete the data and go to boot menu? if so where do i go from there?

Acer had decided that due to a sudden problem where they could not
find why the PC could not find an OS that the HDD must be bad. They
sent new setup discs, and suggested a new HDD be installed and setup.
When a new drive was purchased and installed the setup discs were
used to install the Windows 7 OS. It appeared to go through the setup,
and did show as finished, but with the reboot process it first gave a
notice that setup could not complete with the installed hardware and
needed to restart. With each successive trial to reboot it would ask
to reinstall the setup discs. Each time now it says setup could not
complete, and would restart again. Each and every time of a restart
it does the same thing.Entering into BIOS setup and insuring the settings
are correct will still restart to the same screens to install setup again.

In the attempt to format the new drive to start again with installation,
and insuring that the CD drive is first boot, will not change the entrance
into the same screens for system setup. The PC still attempts to boot
from the HDD even though it has been selected to be absolute last
in the boot process, and the CD/ DVD first. Not even HDDeraser.exe
CD is 'seen' in the boot process in the CD drive.

Is there some other hardware or software issue that would cause this,
or a problem in the Acer firmware?

Hello, my new Acer Aspire Notebook has my IE homepage stuck to global.acer.com and I can't change it through any of the IE options (Use Blank, Use Current, or typing it in manually - I'm trying to set it to Google).

I went to this page to solve the problem: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q320159 (Home page setting changes unexpectedly, or you cannot change your home page setting).

As per Microsoft's instructions, I tried changing the "Start Page" value in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main," but I got the following error: "Cannot edit Start Page: Error writing the value's new contents." There was no "Default_Page_URL" entry in there.

I was able to change the "Default_Page_URL" value to "Google.com" under "HKEY_ LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main" and the "Start Page" value in there was already set to "http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd={SUB_PRD}&clcid={SUB_CLSID}&pver={SUB_PVER}&ar=home"

The "Default_Page_URL" and "Start Page" entries don't exist in the "HKEY_USERS\Default\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main" key.

Lastly, the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel" subkey doesn't exist either.

I would appreciate any help you could give me, thanks!

I am attaching a few pictures of what comes on the screen when I turn it on.
Even in safe mode it does not let me log in, it attempts repairs, it fails and then goes to the black screen with the white cursor.
If I try to start windows normally it loads the logo and then goes to the black screen.
Yesterday, in an attempt to do repairs it was replacing invalid security drivers or something like that and it was taking ages so I had to turn it off.
For the last week it took very long to start up, failing to configure windows but it would eventually let me log in.
Since yesterday I am only getting the black screen. it is windows 7 by the way.

i need a very quick reply please

Quick reply!!! Save your data and restore back to factory. Always have a back up image of your OS on a external drive for next time you have this problem!!

Hi, I'm hoping I'm posting this at the right place, if not please move.
A week ago my girlfriends' laptop started giving an error message on boot saying "No bootable device, press any key".
I tried a number of suggestions I found posted online to similar issues but to no avail. I didn't want to completely reset the machine since it was still under warranty, so I figured if we just submitted it for repair someone might be able to save more of her files. However; girlfriend lost the warranty/receipt. We gave up searching today so I went back in to try and reset it.
I couldn't access the recovery partition of the hdd and gf didn't make a recovery disc.So I decided to try a reset using a recovery drive I made from my own Acer laptop (which, like hers, came with win8).
This seemed to work, so I let it do it's thing. I checked back on it a while later and it was on 7%, but when I checked again it was stuck on the "ACER" boot screen. It was stuck on there for a couple of hours, not responding to any key input. When I restarted it (by holding power button to turn it off first) it again got stuck on the Acer screen. If I'm quick enough I can get into BIOS during boot, but not once it's stuck on the acer screen.

Do you have any ideas what I can do/try to get this thing working again?

Specs:
Acer Aspire e1-531
Windows 8
HDD= Toshiba MQ01ABD050

A:Acer laptop stuck on "ACER" screen.

Unless your laptop is the same model as you girlfriend's - or at least from the same laptop series - your recovery disk won't work, mainly because it will try to install the wrong drivers.

I think your best bet is to try to get it fixed under warranty. You may not need the receipt, you can check the laptop's warranty status here :- https://www.acer-apac.com/acer_web/

Previously, this button would open Windows Media Center when pressed. Though it has stopped doing that and don't know why. How can I fix this?
All the other Mediatouch keys are working fine.

Hey There

First of all: I'm a studend, so I can't speek good english, cause I live in Switzerland (plz write in German if you can )

So my Problem:

I've found a Acer Aspire 5920G with Windows Vista. This was so slow and annoying . So I deleded the whole OS and installed Win 7 Home Premium x64. Now I'm searching some drivers for my Notebook. My biggest Problem is the sound driver.
In Vista, there was a tool called "Acer eAudio Manager". I want to install it, because you can switch the equalizer to movie, music and game (and it sounds awesome with the bassbooster=D). I've downloaded the driver from the website and there was a error:

"This software can only be installed in authorized machine"

what can I do to install this tool? Some other tools, like acer power management or acer enet management, works great.

I thought I ask in this forum, because there were some good topics about the mouspad and synaptic of the 5920G (wich helped me=D)

I hope you understand my question and can help me

Greetings
LikeLinux
(And yes, I'm a real Linux fan^^ I've used always Ubuntu. This is the first time that I use Windows )

My system is roughly 5 months old. I had used the upgrade software that Acer provided to upgrade from Vista to 7 home premium. There was no issues with the install and everything worked great for a month and then it started going in to deep hibernation. The only way to wake it was to unplug the power from the tower. I did everything I could think of from editing the registry to updating drivers, to finally reinstalling everything. No go so I packed it up and sent it back to Acer. I just got it back from Acer's repair depot. They had to replace the motherboard, hard drive, and fans on the system. They performed a factory restore and told me that I was good to go and updating shouldn't be an issue. I went to use the upgrade dvd's from Acer and low and behold, the hibernation thing started again! It took me four attempts to restore it back to factory. Now it seems stable running Vista. I am in the process up updating the drivers and windows stuff so time will tell. Is it me or is Acer systems flakey?

Does anyone have any recommendations on how I can go about updating to Windows 7 without having to format every week? I have tried doing clean installs without going the upgrade path and it still behaves badly. Sometimes it won't even turn on. Or is it just possible that the pc I purchased just can't handle Windows 7?

A:Acer Aspire M3203 and Acer's Windows 7 upgrade software

Are you booting the Acer Win7 Upgrade Media DVD to do a clean install? You can do that to get the cleanest possible install, without the corruption that is imported from Vista in an in-place Upgrade.

The installer is driver-complete, but afterwards any missing drivers which don't quickly arrive in Optional Windows Updates can be found on the apps/drivers CD along with favorite apps like Works, cam, etc. Others can be found on the Acer Support Downloads webpage for your model computer, Adobe (flash, Reader) and Java (runtime, free Ofc suite) sites.

Hi everyone I'm at my wits end! I cannot get my webcam to work. I have tried numerous options posted in different forums and on websites but nothing seems to work. Even when I went to the Acer update driver search site. When I added my model number I got about a dozen driver options but as soon as I put in my OS Windows 7 (64 Bit) it came back with no drivers. I've noticed in a number of forums that peoples webcams where working fine in Windows XP but when they updated to Windows 7 they lose the ability for their computers to find their webcams. Is this an inherent problem with Windows 7 and is there anyway to fix it short of buying an external webcam. Surly there must be a way to get it to work !!!
Regards Brett.

Hello All....first time posting, so thank you in advance for any suggestions regarding a Black Screen problem. After upgrading my 6 yr. old Acer Aspire 5534 laptop from Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit to Windows 10 it frequently will not wake up from sleep.  Black screen with fan and blue power light on, but no response until I unplug the adapter and hold down the power button, then it starts up normally.  I am not an advanced user, but read for hours the last time it happened and did change Power Settings to uncheck fast start up, but that did not help. Then I read update video card driver, but when I went to the Acer Canada website I don't see any updates past 2009 when I purchased this laptop....other than this really annoying problem Windows 10 seems to be working well.

I *think* you have an Intel gm45/gl40 graphics chipset and the latest drivers may be here. If not you need  to run MSINFO32, then select System Summary>Components>Display and see what is listed as the Name, Adapter type, and Driver Version.

So at first i thought it my keyboard wasn't being seen by windows 10. but sometimes after holding the bluetooth button an unknown device appears that appears to be my keyboard. yet when i type in the connection code it doesn't respond and then the device no longer is showing. It could just be another bluetooth device though; i live in a dorm so there's many other people with bluetooth devices in the area. I checked out this: https://acer--uk.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/30072/~/how-to-pair-the-acer-bluetooth-keyboar... but it only applies to 8 and 8.1, not 10. Perhaps acer should release a driver update for windows 10 early adopters that fixes their keyboard to work with windows 10, unless there is a simple bug fix? I looked online but i seem to be the only one with this issue so far, possibly due to the newness of 10. Edit: found this post, which weirdly didn't show up previously: http://community.acer.com/t5/Windows-10/Bluetooth-not-working-after-installing-Windows-10-on-Aspire-... trying to update my drivers again to confirm this isn't an issue. edit 2: nope it added a connected devices section to replace the bluetooth section, but otherwise didn't solve the problem yet. edit 3: so after like 2 hours i finally realized what was the issue. In order for it to be discoverable you need to make sure to first install the new windows 10 specific bluetooth driver mentioned in the above post , then use the REPAIR option in the blu... My acer active pen is not working consistently. The screen recognizes it sometimes, and other times it does not. The only way I can get it to recognize is by power cycling the pen (taking the battery out and putting it back in), or by power cycling the laptop. I replaced the battery so I know it is not a battery issue. I have an Acer Aspire R13 (Model #R7-371T), and recently upgraded to Windows 10.  I was having this problem earlier with Win 8.1, but it seems to have gotten worse with Windows 10.  I have updated to all the most recent drivers.  Very frustrating. Any thoughts?

Is this normal for a 6 month old machine..? I can't update windows 10. The message says that there's not enough room to update windows 10, so I buy a 32 gig card....still it says theres not enough space,,,so I try a 32gig usb stick....still no joy.....So I take it back to PC World where I'm treated like a child and told that they won't take it back...they'll just send it back to Acer to have windows 8 put on ...??!  and did I realise it was a cloudbook and NOT a laptop...!! Left the shop with steam coming out of my ears...so, my question is this....Has anyone out there succeeded in updating their windows 10 cloudbook Because that despite having owned and worked with computers for over 30 years I cannot solve this problem....(Nor have I experienced such poor ill informed salespeople as I have in PC World....but that's another story...
