Q: Windows - Trackpad not working properly in Windows Vista x64 on the MBP

Having some issues with the trackpad working correctly on the MBP - installed Leopard (not sure if it installed fine as I had some errors doing it) and now the trackpad on the MBP is not allowing me to ever right click - or do two finger scrolling?

Am I missing a driver for this? If so does anyone know the name of the driver that will allow the trackpad to function correctly?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

what software can I use to make sure all the files that Windows Vista Home premium needs to function properly are there and if they are not, software that can fix that problem.

is this the same as a registry checker?

im having some problems with the laptop just freezing randomly, I had uninstalled a whole lot of software, im wondering if some important file was uninstalled. or, if the file just wasn't there to begin with.

Hi Friends,

Iam using Windows Vista Business 32 bit OS.
I have a application that's developed using VB6 and i have installed it on Vista.
After the application is installed on the system, it creates some shortcuts
in start menu---programs

when i click on this shortcut.... it says the programs has stopped working...
windows is coolecting more information about the problem and then it gives another message box which gives the option of View Details and if i click on this it displays some txt files in the temp folder
WERDFA9.tmp.version.txt
WEREC0E.tmp.appcompat.txt and WERFB22.tmp.mdmp.. now iam not able to understand anything by looking at the file contents.

if i run the same shortcut that's present in the folder where it's created it runs fine without any errors.....

If somebody can help me on this...

We've had a Thinkpad T530 for several years.  About a year ago, the trackpad's left button began acting like a right click instead of the left click it should be and always had been.  The right button still acts as a right click.  The left trackpoint button works fine as a left click, and I can still tap the trackpad to get a left click, but I'd still like the left trackpad button to work properly. Recently, the hard drive went bad, so I installed a new ssd and a fresh copy of Windows 10.  I was hoping that would fix the trackpad button issue, but it did not.  Today, I installed the ultranav driver, but that did not fix the issue, either. Any additional ideas?

Hello. I have an issue with T460s Trackpad.Now I am using the t460s with minimizing the trackpad palm threshold.The driver version for trackpad pad is 19.3.4.97, and the bios version is 1.28. To check where the problem comes from, I swap the trackpad with x1 caron 3rd.x1 carbon 3rd works fine with the t460s trackpad.T460s shows the same problem. (even though it uses x1 carbon 3rd trackpad) I tried to roll back the bios; however, I was not able to roll back the bios below 1.27 version.With bios version 1.27, it shows the same problem Does anyone have the same issue with me, and solve the problem??  Thank you

The Trackpad is unusable on my Thinkpad Yoga 260. When I try to use it it doesn't respond most of the time. Strangly though when I use the very tip of my finger it does work. To me that sounds like the palm rejection is too harsh. Also the scrolling gesture doesn't work if I place my fingers vertically. It does work if I place them horizontally). The Trackpad is from Elantech. I tried changing the driver settings, re-installing it and nothing helped. The problem with the Trackpoint is that when I try to scroll vertically using the middle button the scrolling symbol often first shows up horizontally and I need to press the trackpoint hard to get it to scroll. This all on Windows 10. I am thinking that this is all a driver issue because I tried out Ubuntu and there it works without problems also uninstalling the driver gets the Touchpad to work but the gestures don't work then. But if this is a driver issue shouldn't everyone have this problem?

My Aspire M5-481PT laptop was working fine for months with Windows 10, then suddently the trackpad stopped working after an automatic update. I was able to install the most recent Synaptic Windows 10 driver, and after a few hours of farting around got the trackpad to work again, but the two finger scrolled still doesn't work...it doesn't show up as an option in the Synaptic settings (see screenshot):Has anyone come up with a fix for this?   This seems to be a common issue with Windows 10 and the new automatic driver updating which is impossible to turn off.  Come on Microsoft / Acer, how could a critical piece of hardware like this stop working?!  Let's do some better testing before rolling out updates....every time I waste hours to getting my computer to work with little support from the manufacturers, I am a one step closer to buying an Apple machine next time. Thanks for your help,Allen

I installed Windows 10 and the touchpad is not working and I tried to install two different drivers (one from Lenovo site and one from Synaptics) and when I try to install, they both say that the touchpad doesn't even exist.  So it's not installing the driver and I'm having to use external mouse for now. Is anyone else having this problem and what is a solution?  Thank you.

So recently my Windows 7 laptop went all wack and crushed into it's self so i went and pulled out one of my old laptops and booted it up to see if it still worked it is currently a Windows Visa and i plan to change the system soon, anyways i started it up and everything ran smoothly till i got to my login screen and the keyboard/ mouse pad dont work so i decided to plug a USB connect keyboard and mouse in and those dont seem to be working either i havent used this laptop for a good 2 years almost now and im not entirely sure whats going on even when i try to restore it i cant click on restore in order to do so, any suggestions of any sort would be a great help to me either that or im going to have to take it in to be repaired and i just recently replace the hard drive in my laptop that crushed into it's self.. so i wont be exactly thrilled if i have to pay for it to be repaired.

Hi, Could be one or more problems here, but for a simple test, if the laptop has more than one USB connector, try each of them, with the extra keyboard, as it's possible the first one you tried isn't working. I have the same problem with an old HP, two out of three don't work.
Try just the keyboard plugged in, not a USB mouse at the same time.
If you get no response from the keyboard in any of the USB sockets, then it's most likely that the Windows software is not 'seeing' the keyboard.
When you first power on the laptop, do you see the white text on black background, such as 'Windows Vista' etc, then it goes to the Vista login screen ?
If your laptop is the type where it has the same Windows on as it had when new, then you may be able to do a 'Factory restore', but if the keyboards won't work, then it won't be so simple.
If it was mine, I would try a Linux CD in the DVD drive, and see if it works using that instead of Windows. That would prove if the hard drive is ok, and if the keyboard works (or not.)
If you don't have Linux CD, and you don't mind spending 5.99, you get them included with magazines such as 'Linux User'. If that does work, then you can save any files, mp3, videos, etc on the hard drive, off to a USB flash stick or external USB hard drive.

I have removed the original Win10 and reinstalled from scratch Win8.1 Pro on my Dell xps 13 9350. I have downloaded all the possible drivers from the official "Dell driver download" page and run them all in the order suggested. Also the BIOS is updated. However, there are still several devices not recognized: 1. There is no Win8.1 driver for the trackpad. The one of Win10 is not compatible with Win8.1, so the trackpad is currently recognized in the device manager as PS/2-compatible. Moral: the scroll function does NOT work!! 2. Under "other devices" I get two "PCI data acquisition and signal processing controller" icons and one "unknown device" flagging "there are no compatible drivers for this device" 3. After installing the latest drivers (February updates -not sure which one in particular created the problem) I now get also under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" and icon with "Standard SATA AHCI Controller" flagging "this device cannot start. (Code 10)" While I can live with 2. and 3., the issue 1. with the trackpad is VERY annoying, and it would be great if Dell would provide a driver for it (btw., this model is now more than 3 months on the market). PS: the February update seems has fixed part of the problems with the WiFi and with mouse. Hope this helps for items 1 and 2, not sure about item 3...
For item 1, have you tried using the Windows 7 touchpad driver?  Download link below.  When you run the downloaded Dell Update Package, choose Extract (not Install), and create a folder to extract the files.  Then right click Setup.exe, choose Properties, then click the Compatibility tab, and then check the Compatibility box and choose Windows 7.  This should allow the driver to install successfully.
For item 2, you'll need to install the Serial I/O driver, which isn't listed for Windows 8.1, but you can find it in the Dell Driver Pack for Windows 8.1, link below also.  You'll need something like 7zip to extract the CAB file, but you'll find the driver buried in there.  Once you have the driver pack extracted to a folder, you can go into Device Manager, then right click the PCI Data Acquisition device, then choose Update Driver. Then choose Browse, and point it to the extracted folder and make sure include subfolders is checked.  The driver should then install.

Restored my U300S to factory defaults, everything was working then out of the blue it stopped working.  A check of the Device manger doesnt show it at all.  Went to the site downloaded the correct driver install pack (TouchPad Driver (Synaptics, Cypress)).  when it runs through the setup it states  "Cannot find cypress track pad" and aborts. Any help appreciated. Thanks

Model : Toshiba R30-A-1CQ / PT343 Windows 8.1
Problem developed that intermittently touchpad would fail to register button presses. - Seemed intermittent. Rebooting machine solved problem for a while.

Updated to Windows 10 via Microsoft Windows Update - problem still occurs.

Further problem examination shows that the button functionality stops working after the laptop is resumed from sleep. - Can now reproduce this 100%. Windows needs to be restarted for touchpad button functionality to be restored.

All Windows updates applied. Touchpad is using Alps driver Ver 10.100.303.105.

Is there a later/earlier touchpad driver which will resolve this problem?

Hi,

I've just bought a Samsung R580 and the built-in webcam is working fine on skype and everything else except for msn messenger. When I connect on video chat with someone, I can see myself but they can't see me and I can not see them, checked my firewall settings- using Mcafee and windows live messenger has full access. I also tried it with my Logitech Quickcam, downloaded softwares too... same thing, I can see myself - webcam is working but people can't see me and I can't see them. Funny thing is it worked once briefly.

And on another chat platform, video is connecting fine but unable to connect to server. It occasionally connects briefly then logs off in 2 minutes.

OK after spending hours trying to fix it- webcam on windows live messenger, was falling asleep and it dawned on me found the webcam in device manager, uninstalled the drivers for built-in cam then restarted the system, they got reinstalled automatically and now it is working fine!

I am running Windows XP Home v2002 SP2

My IE will not open, it just flashes and closes. I have tried running with no add-ons, repairing, reinstalling, and installing newer version, all with the same results.
My WMP is not able to be updated, attempts to update and freezes. Also unable to install newer version successfully.
As of a while ago, my Notepad application seemed to just disappear.
When Windows updates it always seems to hang up before completing, and is also running increasingly more sluggish. Some Windows applications, like System Info among others, will not open.

I have run all sorts of virus/spyware scans and have found traces of Virtumonde and Smitfraud on my system. I have also had the Windows Security Antivirus - 2009 prompt pop on me a while back.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I have tried to research what I can for so long I have forgotten where I am at in all this.

On the surface, my laptop seems to be working okay, but when it comes down to certain issues you can tell there is some kind of issue going on. First indicator, I downloaded an app called Riverpoint Writer which works through Microsoft Word. The way the program works is it sets everything up in an APA writing format, and when opened is supposed to immediately bring up a prompt for the title of the paper, author, etc. However, when used on this device all it brings up is a blank Word document as if you just opened Word. Another issue is when I download a zipped or compressed file, it doesn't treat it as such. I can open the file with absolutely no issue. Which would normally be okay, but when it is  a music file, I can listen to the files individually on a music player, but cannot transfer them over completely to the music player. There is something very obviously wrong with the set up. I've tried talking to support from both Microsoft and HP, both have told me it was an issue with a program I've downloaded and I needed to pay for a service to get it fixed, but that has not worked. I've kept up on all the updates, I've removed and redownloaded software, and nothing seems to be helping.

Hello.

Last night i hit the keyboard part of my compaq presario C765EM laptop, it froze sometime after that. Then on start up i got the immediate message "Windows Error Recovery". Underneath it said, Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. Theres more words and suggests trying either, "Launch startup repair (recommended)" or "Start Windows normally".

When i clicked the first one, a box appears with "system recovery options", i click next and a different box appears, there were no operating systems to choose from in the box window so i had the choice at the bottom of the box to click "load drivers" or click "next".

When i clicked load drivers, it took me to the "system 32" folder via Windows/Boot (X:)/Computer. From system 32 i clicked most of the folders in it, nothing happened.

If i clicked "next", i got another box called "system recovery options", the first link is "start repair", after clicking this, the dianosis details say the system volume on disk iscorrupt, but then says file system repair completed successfully.

Now when i switch the pc on i get an initial message to run 3 different safe modes or start up normally, the 3 safe modes freeze when it gets to the desktop. Installed Windows 7 on a new build-ssd. Windows loaded and worked properly, and was able to access anything I tried to.

Installed driver for graphics card. After restart, windows shows desktop background. No icons and unable to open start menu from windows key. I am able to right click and open SOME things that way, but others will NOT open. I was able to delete drivers in safe mode, then windows worked fine again.

Now, I've installed the mobo driver and the graphics card driver. I am having the same problem.

I have run a memory check and hard drive check. I have also made sure the icons are suppose to be displayed. I have installed all windows updates.

Any ideas on what to try next?

We booted in the base video boot, which did allow windows to work properly (screen distorted though). It does say windows is activated.

What does this mean when it works in this boot, but not normal startup? Is there something we need to be looking for? Changing?

Here's the problem:
 
Kind of hard to understand but bear with me, I log into Windows using my user account "Owner", it appeared at first that the data was gone.  However upon closer inspection I notice that it's logging into Windows and then using a folder called "Temp" where it's libraries are by default, but all of the data for the account is stored in the folder called "Temp" I'm not sure why this is, it wasn't like that on Friday.
 
Login option - "Owner"
Users directory - "Owner", "Temp"
Data stored - "Owner"
Library used - "Temp"
 
I'm hoping you guys are understanding what I'm meaning, it's difficult to explain.

 This sounds like a corrupt user ID.  I'd create another ID with admin authority, sign on with the new ID, then copy the files from the old ID to the new one.

Hello folks! I've recently began to do maintenance on my PC, and I've found out there's an error on my main disk (C:) I ran CheckDisk on it, and when it reboot, the checking only lasted several seconds. I then go back to the Tools section on the drive again to check and see if the program had done it's job, I was saddened to see it had done absolutely nothing. Every time I go back to check it, it keeps saying there's an error with the drive, and after several attempts at redoing this process, it still has done nothing to fix it apparently. I've also noticed that the Disk Defragmenter doesn't even recognize the C: drive, but it's still usable to the Windows Explorer. Is there anything I can do to fix this issue without reinstalling Windows?

Hi all. Here's my problem.

I've been using Windows 7 for about a month now and have lately noticed that some images look horrible in certain applications. Here's a screenshot of what the same photo looks like in IE (left) and FF (right). IE shows it right. Windows' own image viewing application shows images wrong too, whereas Photoshop 5 shows them right.

Both jpeg and tiff files do this.

My drivers should be updated.

I don't think it's about colour profiles because even the photos straight off the camera look bad.

Any help?

Hi

I tried to search the forums for this because I know it's not new but I couldn't find it.

I am getting a pop up window that says

"Windows Explorer is not working properly"

then it says its searching to fix the problem then it resets the desktop. I tried to do a System Restore before this started but the outcome is

System restore was not successfull and that it encountered an error. I tried this at several different dates.

When I went directly to my System32 file I found the following

When I tried to delete these files, it says that a program is using it and to stop the program.

I also tried Spybot to remove any viruses but nothing came up.

I also have Norton and scanned numerous times but nothing.

So now, this window pops up every other day or so but I know its still there screwing with my computer.

Can anyone help with this? Or show me where there might a thread already on this site. Thanks so much for your help.

A:Windows Explorer is not working properly

Turn off Norton Anti Virus and then do a system restore. Then turn Norton back on. This is a known problem with NAV.

I recently did the update they windows 7 prompted me to do and now nothing seems to be working properly.
- gadgets not loading ( blue square with !)
- Skype not working, tried uninstalling, reinstalling,etc
-Internet explorer problems
- can not get to my email through my desktop and when I use Mozilla it won't let me update to the newest version.
-computer running slow
- cannot open some programs
Any helpful advice would be appreciated

How did "they" prompt you to do this update? Is it the normal way that you receive all your updates?

Have you tried System Restore? Uninstalling the update?

Geek Squad replaced HD under warranty, on getting system home first time I started computer I got a blue screen telling me A process or thread crucial to system op unexpectly exited or been terminated. Physical memory dump failed with status:0xC00001855. I started computer again and windows loaded but been having trouble with system slow, running programs, loading, internet. I have built a PC recently, but do not have a disc drive, so I had to put Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) on a USB drive. The installation works fine at first, copying files to the HDD [a 2TB Seagate Hybrid drive] until the first restart. At the point it has booted up again, it simply brings me back to the first screen of the W7 installation, restarting the installation process again and not continuing where it should have left off from the progress made prior to that restart.

I will gladly provide any other information needed to help assess the problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I recently installed Windows 7 on my computer, Dell Vostro 1400. Now the HIQ recorder (roemersoftware) and skype do not work properly.
The recorder records all sounds: from the mp3 file and from the microphone. When I mute the microphone the recorder software tells me i do not have a sound card.
Any clue how to get this fixed.
Skype: I can see the partner and the partner can hear me. But I cannot hear my partner. Skype or Windows problem?
Can someoen offer help?

A:HIQ Recorder on Windows 7 not properly working

Dell ONLY supports Vista 32 bit on this model, however in most cases the Vista drivers all work in Windows 7 (as long as you have Windows 7 32 bit).

On a new install the correct and required install sequence on a Dell is (1) Install OS (2) Install Dell Laptop Support Software (on applicable models) (3) Install motherboard chipset drivers (4) Install Device Drivers including sound, video, ethernet, etc.

The motherbord chipset drivers are key to a successful install and there are two chipset drivers listed on the Dell downloads - and Intel and a Ricoh. One of the main things the chipset drivers do is define (identify) all the devices on the motherboard. If you skipped the chipset drivers, install them and then the sound and anything else that is missing.

My Windows 7 desktop has for several months not update normally. I have made some effort, malwarebytes, etc., but the problem persists. I have set updates to be automatic, but i am presented with a notification icon in the tray to update. I follow the request to  update and boot  but nothing seems to happen, and the icon in the tray and request to update never goes away. Each time i click on the icon i go to "Check for updates"  I request and need expert help to find the problem and correct it. I follow instructions to the letter.

hi, pl help me to solve the following problem

when i go to start > run and type cmd.exe I see the window come up and goes away with in second. i try to solve this problem by kill.exe available on internet but not able to solve it properly. i think some files are remain to delete with kill.exe

i have just install one handycam usb drivers on the computer after that i am facing this problem.

Every couple of days starting this week OneDrive in file explorer will completely stop working and when i click the onedrive icon in the start menu i get this error message







After clicking Fix it i can access my local onedrive folder but the actual program will no longer run unless i uninstall it, restart my computer then download installer from microsoft.com and reinstall. After the reinstall it was working just fine for a couple of days then onedrive stopped working again so i did another reinstall and for now it's back to normal. This has happened 3 times this week and i would appreciate any help i can get solving this issue i keep having.

Lately I have a problem with the internet :/ :the pages I try to open are very slow, sometimes I get a blank page (no matter how much I wait) or in the upper left corner appears this : ''https://apiluckyleapnet-a.akamaihd.net/gsrs?is=cbslugp7&bp=BAS&g=52b39c89-a2d0-48f3-827d-a2375fefea83''. Or it appears: SSL Error / The webpage isn't available.. I tried using other browser (IE) but it still works very slow, and I can't download Firefox because it is too slow, I also reinstalled Chrome. Hello all. I'm new to this forum, and I'm looking for some advice. Autoplay has stopped working on my PC. I first noticed when I swapped out a game disc (FEAR: Extraction Point), which had been in the drive for a couple of weeks, for another (Gears Of War). No autoplay dialog appeared. I opened and closed it again, put FEAR back in, tried an audio CD. No luck.

What's interesting is that if I pay very close attention, the autoplay windows flashes up, but disappears immediately. The same occurs if I 'force' autoplay via the context menu in explorer.

I have performed the following:

1) Obviously checked the autoplay settings in Control Panel. Reset to default, turned it on and off again, etc.

2) 'Shell Hardware Detection' is running and set to automatic. Checked via 'services.msc'.

3) Applied a few registry tweaks for 'NoDriveAutorun' and 'NoTypeAutorun' entries.

None of the above have made any difference. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64.

Please assist! Thanks in advance.

I have a problem for about 1 month, and i haven't got rid of it.
When I start Windows 7, it works fine for a random time (it can be 15 minutes, it can be 5 hours)
But when it happens, i get this when I do some actions like
Opening "Computer":

And after right clicking on a file, it get buggin' and I need to restart explorer.exe

What I tried:
sfc /scannow
chkdsk
malwarebytes antimalware
Registry cleaning

Also, when i log off, and log on, it works properly, so I believe there is something running in the background that is making this happening.
What could it be?

I'm using windows 7 ultimate version 6.1 ,wen i start my computer it logon but after nothing is displayed, only blank screen is displayed. but i can operate the system via task manager, for ex:to open the logical drive i wil press ctrl+alt+del ->taskmanager->new task->run->e: ,then my logical drive opens . my explorer.exe process is not responding ie it is not working properly ,wen this problem occurs first i just reinstalled my os , but this problem occurs frequently so anyone give me a solution to solve this problem.

Hi jelintaric,

Some questions:How long have you left it after boot? Please wait 20 minutes and see if explorer loads. This will tell me if the process is locked or if something is just slowing it down. i.e. I want to see if the problem is explorer or another influence.
Are there any on screen error messages saying that explorer has failed to load (or anything else suspect)?
Is there anything in the Windows event logs to suggest what might be tying up or killing the EXPLORER process? (especially disk errors)

Some general maintenance to find problems and speed up your system:Run a Checkdisk on all drives
Ensure that you have set up defragmentation.
Check for windows files integrity by running SFC /SCANNOW from an elevated command prompt
