I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, Try the following. Hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run box type regedit and hit enter In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTP\Install Inside, look for a key named DeleteUserSettingsOnUpgrade If this is present, right click the key and select Modify Set the Value data field to 0 ( Zero ) and then click Ok. Close the Registry Editor. Make the Synaptics setting changes you require in the usual way and save them, then check if they're now retained after a reboot. Regards, DP-K

Hi everyone, I like this laptop and the touchpad works fine, but I'd like to disable the pinch-to-zoom function. Following internet articles, I've looked a number of times at the Control Panel under Mouse settings. There's no touchpad listed, and no 'Device Settings' tab at the far right. Then I tried updating the mouse drivers, but all are said to be the most current. I tried downloading a touchpad driver from synaptics, but the dl failed to install on setup twice. I tried checking the UEFI settings (is that the BIOS?) following a previous post here, but cannot see any listing for touchpad. Any ideas? Help! Thanks a lot, Peter

What camera app would you recommend?

What are the best free and nonfree camera apps?

Searched "windows 8 camera app with pinch to zoom" on google and haven't found it yet

Been lurking around the store. I did find some that let you pinch to zoom for attachable cameras to laptops like logitech's attachable camera.

I'm looking for a clampshell device with a camera on the back. If need be, I'll look at the android options but first I want to see if there are some good windows ones.

I installed all drivers for the touchpad. No seeing any UltraNav software. And i don't find any settings to reduce the pinch zoom sensitivity (except enable/disable it).For now the sensitivity are too high, barely to make zooming on browser back to 100% (micrometer precision required) or google maps is zooming too fast. I know i can reset the zoom via keyboard but the annoying part is when I have 2 fingers on the touchpad to prepare the scrolling and it triggers the zooming.Device: X1 Extreme (20MF000XGE)So the question is: does anyone know how to adjust the sensitivity just for the pinch zoom?

Hi everyone.

I've bought myself a new Dell Inspiron 7537. This is the first time I have a laptop with touchscreen.
I'm still trying to get use to it, and there's something I want to ask.
I've discovered that there are 2 types of pinch zoom.
- The first one is pinch zoom on the touch screen, which is really smooth and responsive. What it does is that it zooms the display .
- The second one is what I really hate, pinch zoom on the trackpad. The different is that this zooms the webpage and its data, it increases the font size of the text, pictures, every content of the webpage while trying to fit everything in the display. It has the same effect as Ctrl + and Ctrl - and it is very laggy!

So my question is: Is there a way to configure the trackpad pinchzoom so that will work just like touch screen pinch zoom?
I know the surface can do that since I've tried it in the store. Zooming with the trackpad on the type cover does the same as zooming on the touch display.
I've been searching everywhere on the internet but couldn't find any way to configure the trackpad pinch zoom. I really hope someone could help me. Thank you in advance.

You need to make those changes in the Control Panel under the Mouse setting. There should be a tab labeled "Device Settings", that you can use to change the advanced mouse settings. Basic computer 101.

I hate it as I keep rezing my desktop icons because of pinch and zoom. Does anyone know how to solve this please?

A:Pinch and Zoom keep resetting on HP Pavilion 15-ab045sa

I think I found a fix! After mucking around in the registry, trying all sorts of stuff, moving keys around, with some PARTIAL success but not totally satisfactory... something caught my eye...
Open up regedit.exe
Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTP\Install
Note this is LOCAL MACHINE, not CURRENT USER.
Look for a key in that Install folder called DeleteUserSettingsOnUpgrade
Double click and change the value to 0
Now go back to the Synaptics control panel, set everything how you like, and reboot. See if it holds. It is holding on mine, still have to test on another computer.
So, this is a sign something weirder is going on behind the scenes, if the driver thinks it is "upgrading" after every reboot.... but anyway, if it works for now, good enough for me!

Hello all! I own a recently purchased Acer E 15 laptop, and like many Windows 8.1 users, I'm very frustrated by the so-called "Precision" touchpad. The pinch-zoom function simply never works when you want it to, but it will suddenly zoom your screen to 300% when you're doing something else.I have been trying to turn pinch-zoom off, but none of the published solutions I've seen in this forum or elsewhere on the web seem to apply to my laptop. When I go into mouse management via the control panel, all I get is this window. I simply don't have the extra "Device Settings" tab shown in all the solutions I've seen. None of the tabs on the window displayed below seem to have any kind of checkbox to control pinch-zoom or any of the other "precision" features. It's the same on the "Mouse" window in the Modern/Touchscreen display. Nowhere do I seem to have the controls to turn pinch-zoom off.Can someone offer me a solution, please? The sudden zooming and unzooming is very annoying and disruptive to my work.Thank you! P.S.: The touchpad is often laggy too, and sometimes just freezes up. I don't know if these are related issues, but if there's a solution for this too, I'd appreciate it.

Is there a way to reduce the sensitivity of the touchpad and/or disable the zoom feature of the touchpad without disabling the touchpad entirely? Over the years, with my other laptop, I grew used to using my right hand to move the pointer while using my left hand to click my selection, so I often have both hands resting on the touchpad. It's second nature, and a hard habit to break. This is a problem on my Lenovo Edge 15 touchpad, because having my left hand anywhere near the touchpad while moving the pointer around with my right hand, I keep inadvertently activating the zoom in/out feature. I do rely on the touchpad quite a bit, so I don't want to turn it off, but the constant zooming issue is really affecting my productivity. Every minute or two, I'm having to stop and Ctrl+0 to get the screen back to normal magnification. I don't see a simple way to fix this in my mouse/touchpad settings. Thanks.

A:Touchpad Pinch Zoom Problem on Lenovo Edge 15

I hope you've figured this out by now and aren't still having this problem. I figured I'd post anyway in case other people are searching for an answer and having trouble finding it. The zoom was driving me insane also and I finally found an answer on another forum. I have a Lenovo G50, but it's likely the problems would be resolved similarly.  Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Mouse (or just search for "Mouse" in your Cortana search bar). Open Mouse Properties and navigate to the far right tab where your touchpad driver is listed, I'm assuming many of us Lenovo users have the same driver but mine is "Elan". Under where the device is listed there are buttons: Enable Device, Stop Device, Options. Or yours may say "Advanced Settings" instead of Options. Open Opions/Settings.  Find the Multi-Finger tab and location the Zooming option. Check the Disable button (or slow zoom rate if you prefer). Click Apply ...and it's fixed! I'm so much happier now that my screen isn't constantly zooming in and out. My left hand constantly bumps the touchpad and the zooming was NOT working for me.

I have an HP dv3 laptop with a synaptics touchpad. Swiping the left edge of the touch pad causes programs which have a zoom capability to zoom in and out. There is no documentation from HP or Synaptics or Microsoft that I have been able to find which even acknowledges that this feature even exists. I would like to turn the feature off because I keep activating it by accident, but I cannot find a setting anywhere. Perhaps there is a registry setting I can change?

A:Want to disable left edge zoom feature

Some additional information: the pointer becomes the crossed lines with arrows that I associate with Move during the swipe and then after the release the shrinking circle occurs as if I had pressed the CTRL key to locate the cursor. The advertised way of doing a zoom with the keypad is to hold the CTRL key and swipe the right edge.

I have searched all the internets without luck, and maybe/probably don't know the correct vernacular so here goes.

In windows 7, when viewing the desktop... or when the mouse focus is off window (on desktop)... a "neat" feature of windows now is how you can resize all the icons with a crtl+wheel motion. Just click to the desktop, or have the focus there already, and viola, the crtl button plus a wheel move makes system wide changes to your desktop icon display.

Well I am not sure what version this new trick was invented in, but it is a cool trick... ONCE. After that its a really stupid annoyance that is just insanity because today, in real life, every other time I sit down my icons are moved around, or all jacked up, or they are out of place, or just out of order, or there are gaps, or some or all of the above... what kind of useful feature is that? Have you thought of a lock for this gadget at all? As in allow the customization, then tuck it away so its not a flaming hotkey 24/7?

Sure, the cause of this awesome trick of resizing the desktop with the scroll wheel, is my wife and kids. How did they PwN me with such 1337 h4x when they know nothing about root trickery and such... well easy, see just by using the PC on occasion, they have accidently cracked the code by accidently discovering this hack. Oh it took a while for me to solve that much sure, but once I did, it wasn't long before I discovered that this total PITA trick is actually a built in feature here... Read more

A:crtl zoom desktop icon resize driving me insane, please help disable??

I know what you mean. Tried it and f*** up my whole desktop's worth of icons.

Anyway, found a solution, although it requires a third-party program and it disables the combination of Ctrl+mouse wheel in any program, including browsers (IE, Firefox, Chrome and similar) and games.

So, unless someone comes up with something better you can get ready for a l33t haxxorz thanks to a guy called rd2020 posted here.

Usual disclaimer, WARNING, this worked on my current PC, and the amount of testing it received is minimal (so far it works ). DO AT YOUR OWN RISK

Now, the third party program is the famous Autohotkey, so download it and install it. Go custom and select the 32 bit version. Probably either choice won't matter as this is a very tiny bit of code anyway but that's what I did.

Then create a new script, by creating a new notepad file on the desktop.

in the file, write

Code:
^WheelDown::return
^WheelUp::return
#MaxHotkeysPerInterval 1000
The ^ is "Ctrl" in this script language and the last line makes sure this script isn't executed hundreds of times per second.

Then save the file with the extension .ahk, like say "stopzoom.ahk". You might need to go in Folder Options (type "folder options" in the Start menu searchbox) --> View --> deselect "Hide extensions for known file types" to make sure that the file isn't being named "stopzoom.ahk.txt" as that is still a notepad document, not a script.

One day I realized I had lost pinch and scroll functions on my touch pad. Don't know why.
So I tried to install a Synaptics touch pad Driver. This provided the missing functions but the Cursor got delayed and the sensitivity of the touch pad was restricted to a certain spot. Therefore I de-installed the Synaptic Driver again.
The sensitivity issued got cured but I still had no pinch and scroll function on the touch pad.
Therefore I went to the Toshiba download site and learned that the ALPS Driver was the original Driver.
I tried to install this Driver (as requested for 64 bits).
The installation seemed to pass smoothly. After re-starting there is still no pinch and scroll functionality and nowhere the driver is found neither in the programs list nor added to the "mouse" Screen in the System functions Folder.

How can I get that pinch, zoom and scroll functions back to my touch pad?

This sounds like program interference, you will need to perform a clean boot and disable firewall and antivirus and then try and install the driver. Here is a description on how to perform a clean boot, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135

I have Windows XP SP2 and Norton Internet Security 2005 (fully updated) installed. I run Ad-Aware and Spybot weekly, defrag twice a month.

My problem is that I experience lockups, freezes and a few BSODs.

The most often lockups happen when I have just started the PC and I want to open a specific site (www.contra.gr). After clicking any link, the PC hungs up and I must do a manual restart. After the second restart I rarely experience any trouble, when surfing that or other sites. If I don't open the IE and just do my work, or if I browse other sites instead I don't get a quick lockup. Then it rarely freezes when I want to transfer some files from one partition to another. Additionally I got a BSOD twice with the following message:

It is really strange, because once restarted I could really do ANYTHING harsh (on a stress-your-PC way) and the system will respond prompty and adequately.

I have run all 5 points mentioned in the Help thread and additionally run a memory stress test; DxDiag and Device Manager as well. No problems found.

Before we begin I would like to warn you that this is most likely a hardware problem. STOP: 0x0000009C is caused when your processor reports a hardware error to XP. This can be caused by many different things including inadaquate cooling, bad RAM, and overclocking.

Hi,
Does anyone know how to manipulate the modern UI zoom feature in windows 8.1 ? This either by script or by regkeys?

Some more details about the problem I have :
14"laptop with Full HD monitor (1080p) -> windows decides that de default zoom behaviour should be 150%...

Now I have found how to counter it in the desktop and desktop Application (add regkey : DesktopDPIOverride) there I can set the value to -2 and it will be 100% zoom and the user can still change it.
Now the ModernUI and Lockscreen (not start screen) don't follow this zoom. To change this you need to go to pc settings - pc and device - display. and there at the bottom you can change the zoom from default to smaller. What I would like is to modify this
behaviour so that the default becomes what It should be small. (the default value it has when you have a 700p pannel of the same size)
This is quite urgent and I hope someone got an answer on this... I hate how windows forces a laptop to look like a tablet :/
Thank you !

Recently purchased an Acer 5733.

Why will my new higher zoom setting not remain as such, until I wish to reset.

It seems erratic from one web page to another, and often automatically returns to 100%.

Sometimes when I return to previous viewed web pages, the higher setting will have remained.

If I set at 125% I want it to stay there!!

I'm running a Toshiba 1905-S301 laptop (2 gig speed, 1 gig mem, 300 gig hd) with Windows 7 (32 bit) I thought I'd try the Zoom 4411 wireless-n USB adapter. It works great and I have the advertised transfer speed (54) for using on a USB 1.1 port.

My problem happens when I shut down Windows when the adapter is plugged in. A few seconds after the normal shutdown sequence begins I get a blue screen showing a system minidump. It never goes into shutdown, but instead reboots and brings up Windows 7 again with the failure noted as an unexpected shutdown sequence. If I pull the adapter and then go for a shutdown the process takes longer than usual (over a minute vice 15 seconds), but it eventually completes the shutdown and doesn't reboot on its own. Nothing appears to not work after the reboot and I can reacquire a network connection with the Zoom device any time I want.

Booting and shutting down with the adapter never installed is normal. An interesting failure, but one I'd like to eliminate.

I heard that Windows 8 includes a new feature called Semantic zoom. Is it possible to play with this feature if I install Windows 8 Ultimate and by using mouse keys.

I want to know whether this zoom feature only works with touch devices.

A:Semantic zoom in Windows 8

Hello Windowsguy, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Not sure mouse keys would work with Semantic Zoom.

The Semantic Zoom interaction is performed with the pinch and stretch gestures (moving the fingers farther apart zooms in and moving them closer together zooms out), or by holding the Ctrl key down while scrolling the mouse scroll wheel, or by holding the Ctrl key down (with the Shift key, if no numeric keypad is available) and pressing the plus (+) or minus (-) key.

If you like, the links below can help give more details and information about Semantic Zoom.

Hope this helps,

When I use internet explorer, 125% zoom is the best choise for me

When I open IE8, the zoom is 100%. I then change it to 125%. Next page I open is often 100% and sometimes 125%. This is randomly.

Ive also tried to change it in regedit, but it doesnt help.

Ive read other threads about this issue, but these threads were started a while ago. Maybe there is some new solutions.

I just installed service pack 2, and I guess the issue appeared after the installation

Someone knows how to get the zoom to stay at 125% permanently?

hello all

just the other day I saw my dad squinting his eyes looking into his 14inch laptop screen.

I can't bare seeing him like that. so I'm looking for a magnifier that with hope help him with his work productivity and doesn't get in the way like most magnifier does.

I'm looking for suggestions of any of your favourite tools that lets me zoom in and see text clearly. or icons or those long articles.

I particularly like the way the Mac OSX does it. where you hold the command key and scroll your mouse. it makes things to easy and you don't have to worry about monitor space, easy to turn off and on. I hope to look for something just like that for windows.

any suggestion anyone?

thanks.

Hi,

Last night, somehow my zoom was changed. My start menu used to have only about 4 rows and now there are six rows and the tiles are now all much smaller. Generally everything is smaller and a new registry entry has appeared in

Code:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell\Grid
Called 'Layout_MaximumAvailibleHeightCells' with a hexadecimal value of 6. I know this is something to do with my problem as I have seen a few tutorials on changing the amount of rows. If I change it, it reverts back to 6 again when I log in to my account. I have tried changing the resolution, but it was the same before the sizes changed and as I have Eyefinity I can't put it down as that would make it repeat on all three screens, and the resolution is at its maximum. It is not to do with the 'Change the size of all items'. It applies the login screen as well.

TL;DR Everything is smaller, and nothing to do with resolution/accessibility, nor the AMD Catalyst Control Panel.

Specs on screens:

3 x 1920x1080p Monitors
AMD Radeon HD 6870 GPU

Thanks

Hi (and welcome to the forums)

Why not try a run of System Restore? It usually works fairly well for getting settings back to previous values, and it doesn't bother your personal files.
_______________

The steps below are for computers running any version of Windows 8 except Windows 8 RT (which mostly is used on the Microsoft tablets called "Surface" ... ["Surface Pro" tablets run Windows 8 Pro]. System Restore isn't available for Windows RT.

I'll assume that your computer isn't running Windows RT, and is running Windows 8 or Windows 8 Pro.
_______________

To restore your PC using System Restore

1. From a touchscreen, swipe in from the right edge of the screen to produce the "charms" bar, and then tap the Search magnifying glass icon. (Or, if you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down to produce the "charms" bar, and then click Search.) Enter Recovery in the search box, tap or click Settings, and then tap or click Recovery.

2. Tap or click Open System Restore, and follow the prompts. Pick a restore point from before the unwanted changes.
_______________

If the changes came about without any action on your part, you might also want to scan for malware, as its presence can cause all sorts of unpredictable behavior. Check in Device Manager, too, in case you might have a device (especially your display or graphics/video card) whose driver is generic rather tha... Read more

This is probably something everyone but me knows, but when I booted my computer the other day, after the "windows" introductory sound, I heard a strange woosh , or zoom , then bubble pop sound before the desktop appeared. This has continued ever since each time the computer is booted. Is this a Windows thing? I want to know because it happened before, and shortly after it happened my computer crashed. Coincidence maybe, but like I say, I am clueless on this. Thanks!

OK, I've checked the other threads re: Zoom Browser and have tried all the tricks and ideas, but no success. First I kept getting an error message about not being registered and now it's the wrong string or something. I've d/l'ed the newest version and it DOES NOT work. Shut down my firewall: no success. I've cleaned out my registry, clean boot, more uninstalls and re-installs and looked on line for more fixes. Even tried my other programs to see if anything else didn't work. Nope! EVERYTHING else is fine! Also, all of Canon's answers I checked into don't work. And I've also seen that I'm not the only one.

I have NO idea what the problem could be. It DID work fine until I received the latest MS updates. (I'm HIGHLY considering NEVER again receiving any more updates from Microsoft as I tend to spend more time fixing things after the updates than the updates are worth. Everything from CHKDSK going into "lets start at every boot" mode to other programs getting glitchy. (Do they even test the updates before uploading them?)

Anyway, I don't want to do a system restore because I've recently d/l'ed some important programs and - like I had to do once in the past - I don't want to explain why I have to re-register the programs. (Can't they tell it's the same computer????)

Just in case: does anyone know where I can get an earlier version of ZB or at least something comparable that actuall... Read more

Went back and installed version 5.6. No problems. Still don't know why 6.7.2 did not work. Haven't found anyone who had the problem actually find a real solution. No matter! Just wonder if there is any way I can get my Logitech Quick Cam Zoom webcam to work with Windows & home premium 32bit ? I have looked on the Logitech site and it says that there are no drivers available for this device in windows 7. I guess this is a hopeless quest, but just to be sure I thought to check here.
Using Device manager in Control Panel I found this hardware ID corresponding to the webcam :-

Hi,

I am using a microsoft mouse on Win 7-64. In Windows Picture Viewer the mouse wheel won't zoom the image in and out. (yes I make sure I left clicked it.) The wheel scrolls fine in ie9beta.

What could cause this? Something I can check in the registry?

The mouse drivers are the vanilla drivers you get when installing Windows 7-64.

Though this doesn't directly answer your question, I use xnview and set it as default for viewing images. I do so because it's free, you can improve the photos, resize, whatever you need to do.

I have a windows XP Home Edition Version 2002, We stoped using it in I belive 2005 and then I decided I would set it up... This was in 2010 or 2009 and I got it running. about a month later I was messing with the zoom or resolution or something and it zoomed to the middle of the screen to the point were I was virtually unable to navigate, It took up the whole screen and didnt move so I restarted it and then decided to pack it away... I've owned this laptop for quite a while and had been using Webcam Central to control the Integrated Webcam on my Alienware M17x R4.   I never had any issues using Windows 7, 8, 8.1, or even Windows 10 until my system updated on 8/20/2016 with a scheduled Windows 10 update.
After the windows 10 update my system restarted and the next time I went to use my webcam I noticed that I couldn't control the pan / zoom / or tilt or alter any of the settings in webcam central.  If I attempt to change anything it automatically changes back instantly.  For example of I move the slider to zoom, or attempt to change the pan, it auto goes back to where it was and will not allow me to change the settings.
I also notice that my mouse pointer flickers over the webcam central GUI, meaning, there seems to be some issue with the GUI after the windows 10 update, I assume is also whats causing the settings not to be changed.
I have tried uninstalling both the drivers and software and reinstalling to no avail, same problem is present after reinstallation of both drivers and the webcam central software.
Wondering if anyone else has run into this and whether there was some type of resolution.
I was able to get the pan / zoom / tilt working with 3rd party webcam software, however I would prefer to go back to using webcam central.
