R400 won’t restart on AC power

Q: R400 won’t restart on AC power

Hello! I have an R400 that won?t restart when the power adapter is connected. If a restart is attempted with the adapter connected, the status lights just cycle through repeatedly (hdd, caps, numlock, batt, etc). As soon as the adapter is disconnected, the restart will resume. Once the restart resumes, the adapter can be reconnected and the restart will continue. The adapter will charge the battery adequately.I have another R400 that?s fine from which I?ve tried the adapter and battery. On the problem laptop, I?ve tried a known good different hard drive with a fresh install of Win 10.I suspect a hardware problem of some sort but I don?t want to shotgun it if you know what I mean.Thoughts?Thank!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey so a few days ago, my Lenovo x270 laptop just shut down in the middle of class. Then when I tried turning it back on, it?ll show the windows loading screen but then shut off. This happens anytime the pc needs to ?restart? to run any repairs and stuff.  When I called tech support, my storage diagnostic passed and I was instructed to get to the f11 recovery options but it requires a login. Because I can?t get past the loading screen, I can?t access windows to ?login? or set myself as an administrator (I?m sure I am) and attach to a domain like is stated in previous threads.  I was instructed to use to use this option so that I can access a date before the problems occurred and have it boot from that day. When I restart it sometimes, it offers a similar sounding option after it ?diagnoses my pc? and is unable to repair for whatever reason. An advanced option shows up and I can recover system from a previous time but when I try it just shuts down...

Hello, I have a HP-Stream 11 with Windows 10 Home, a preinstalled build, and I'm trying to update to Windows 10 1511. Download works fine, I store temporary files in a USB stick as I lack space, when it comes to reboot I just click on restart now from the windows upgrade window, however during the reboot the upgrade won't be applied and I don't even get any kind of error. It looks the same as before restarting, also I am asked to reboot in order to install the updates (Windows works just fine though) I tried to disable the fast boot option from power management but it doesn't help, anyone has experienced such issues? Thank you.

Help! We have a 2 month old P51 and it shut off while on charger power and now won?t turn back on. It is still plugged into the charger but  none of the indicator lights are lit. i have checked all the connections and switched power outlets.Thoughts as to whether this could be an issue with the charger or the computer itself? Thanks in advance.

A:P51 won’t power on

First thing is when you plug in the charger, does the little THinkPad red led flash 3 times on the top ? If not, then the power block is not being recogized. Remove the power cable and the battery, press and hold the power button on the ThinkPad for 10 seconds. Then, before putting the battery back in, keep the lid closed. Plug in the power cable. Does the red led on the "i" of ThinkPad blink 3 times? If not, one of two things could be dead:  Either the powerpack (more common) or something inside the ThinkPad. I would strongly suggest that you find yourself another powerpack and see what happens...

I have an Inspiron 15 5000 series with an intel core i7 processor. It would not power on earlier today, so I assumed that it was dead, but once I plugged it up to the charger nothing happened. I tried taking out the battery and putting it back in after holding down the power button for 30 seconds but that didn?t work. I still have the charger in the computer and the little light on my computer is on but my screen is black and the computer is not making any noise. Please help!!!

so about a year ago I built a pretty intense PC, for the first time.

Some of the specs are;

i5
ASUS ROG STRIX Z390-E
16GB of Ram (TRIDENTz)
1080ti
Evga 750GQ
Corsair Hydroseries H100i
970 EVO SSD
barracuda 3.5 internal HD 3TB
The cooling system failed about 3 months ago, causing extreme performance hinderance so I replaced it - PC was operational and no issues.

Last week, I shut it down for the night and when I woke up the next morning it would not so much as turn on.

The mb and gpu were lighting up (RGB and LED indicators) but that is it.

So I replaced the motherboard AND the power supply - still no boot.

My last idea is to replace the RAM? I?ve tried each stick in every single slot with no luck.

My other idea is that maybe the power button simply doesn?t work on my tower, the PC is receiving power (I can even charge my phone in the USB hub)

Running out of ideas and money, lol, any help would be SO APPRECIATED.

So I?ve gotten hold of a broken Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro which was stuck in the reboot loop (Keyboard lights on off but no boot). The mainboard got replaced and it started working right away. I installed Ubuntu 18.04 and everything was perfectly fine until I had to shutdown the laptop in a hurry and just pushed the power on button till it fell asleep. Little did I know that the machine wouldn?t wake up from that state anymore. I tried everything (60sec power button press/take out battery/cmos reset/replacement psu ) but I couldn?t get it to start again. So after a couple of days I undid every cable and every connection, took the ram out etc. but still to no avail. After putting it back together and trying the 30sec power button reset for the 100th time it suddenly started working again. Until today when I pushed the **bleep** power button again...is there some kind of reset option I am missing. This is driving me nuts...the charge light is Amber and turns white when the charger is in. The power button lights up (among with the white charging light) but after I take the charger out but the pc won?t turn on. Please help me! I've managed to get it running from this state two times by taking it apart and putting it back together but I couldn't figure out the pattern...

I was working on my computer when the monitor spontaneously went into Power Saver mode and turned off. I was forced to do a hard shut down using the power button. I tried restarting the computer and got to the Windows logo before the screen went into Power Saver mode again. After another hard shut down, I restarted and only got to the Dell screen before losing the monitor again. A few more tries produced various results – in some cases, the monitor continued to go out from the Dell screen, while in some cases it would just sit on the Dell screen indefinitely, there was even one time through that it reached the auto-chkdsk stage, but promptly died a few minutes into that. I can select F2 or F12 from the Dell screen – but it doesn’t actually enter the BIOS setup or the Boot menu before the monitor dies again. It seems as though it sometimes finishes POST and other times it doesn’t, though I don’t hear any beeps in either case. (Yes, there is an internal speaker connected.)
It strikes me as being a problem with the BIOS or the video card – but it is really hard for me to tell. There could be a problem with the OS on the drive, but it doesn’t seem to get far enough in the boot process for me to think that’s the problem. I’ve read a number of posts with similar symptoms, but they don’t seem to ever run into the problem of not even being able to get into the BIOS setup or Boot menu, so it’s hard to know if they&rsquo... Computer wont turn on says power save need some Info-Please Read??

I worked on this ladies computer 10/7/04 and 10/8/04 and this is starting like the same problem. The problem then was her computer would not come on the monitor would have a small box that said power saving mode and would disappear and the computer would not come on, you could hear the computer trying to start and then powering down and then trying to start and then powering down.

At first I thought it was the power supply but I changed it and that was not it. I finally opened it up and disconnected the CD-ROM and the Floppy drive and then it started. I then hooked up the floppy drive and it started and then I hooked the CD-ROM back up and the computer started up. It was like that reset it or something. Anyway

Then I started working on it and

Hi
i have a Portege R400-106, which no longer has a hard drive - so can't just get the number off the old one :-(
i'm trying to work out which hard drive i can put in it,
i can see that hard drive space in the laptop has IDE prongs. It is possible that this is PATA type, but my research so far suggests that when drives say they are IDE, i should be OK (please tell me if i have this wrong!)
i believe it is a 2.5" drive i'm looking for and the original drive would have been 80GB, which is about what i think i need.
I think i may be wanting an MK8025GAS ???

i found one at: http://www.memory4less.com/ConfItems.aspx?modelid=80028876
but the cost is pretty prohibative as i live in the UK and the shipping is loads.

I can't seem to find anywhere that can tell me which drive is suitable
cheers in advance for any ideas :-)

A:R400- Does not boot with new Kingston ram.

Those modules are Kingston Value RAM modules (identifiable by the KVVxxx product number), which normally don't work well with ThinkPads, if it's possible I would return them back and get a different brand, for example:

Corsair (but avoid the "Value Select" line!)
Samsung
Hynix
Crucial
Elpida
ADATA
Kingston (but not the "Value RAM" line!!)

It sounds like it's not booting to the Windows XP CD. You need to get into the BIOS setup and be sure the boot sequence is set to CDRom Drive, Floppy Drive and then hard drive in that order.

When the PC first powers on, you should see instructions to press a key to get into Setup. It's usually the DEL or F1 key. Once in the BIOS setup set the Boot Sequence and be sure to read the instructions on the screen to save the settings as you exit.

Let us know what happens.

The screen was blank doing nothing. Solution 1Disconnect the power cable and battery and push the power button 11 times and in the 11th push the button for 30 seconds. Connect power and push power button. Then you can connect the battery. Solution 2 (The one that helped me)Removed the power cable, the battery and the internal battery of CMOS and let it disconnected all for 15 hours. Connect the CMOS's battery and normal battery and is all. WARNINGIf you reset the CMOS and the laptop have a Supervisor Password enabled and you dont have it  you will be in big problems. I have a Dell XPS R400 with a Pentium II, 400 MHz processor running Windows 2000. (It originally had Windows 98). I currently have one socket filled with 128 MB of SDRAM (PC100, unbuffered, CL=2) . I would like to upgrade and add more memory.

Information from Dell says the computer supports 100 Mhz SDRAM 168 pin DIMM with a maximum size of 128 MB up to a total of 384 MB (3 sockets).

The motherboard is an Intel SE440BX-2. The documentation for it says it supports up to a 256 MB DIMM SDRAM for a total of 768 MB.

Why the discrepancy? Is it based on the OS? And how high can I go?

A:Memory Upgrade - Dell XPS R400 with Intel SE440BX-2 motherboard

The old W98 did not function properly with 256MB or over.
W2000 does not need more than 512MB, but works fine with up to 1GB.

Intel said:

System Memory Combinations
The motherboard has three, dual in-line memory module (DIMM) sockets. Minimum memory size is 16 MB; maximum memory size is 768 MB. The largest DIMM supported at this time is 256 MB using unbuffered 128 Mbit technology parts. The BIOS automatically detects memory type, size, and speed.Click to expand...

I would believe Intel rather than Dell.
Make sure you get PC100/CL2 SDRam, anything else does not work.
You can mix different MB-sizes memory-chips. So buy what you can afford.
Unless you do intensive graphics, even just 1 256MB-stick will do wonders.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Problem: When booting up, the computer is fine until it gets to the windows load screen. The bars roll across the screen, as it would if XP was going to start normally. But it does this for about 8 minutes, and then goes to a black screen.

Possible causes: This problem started after the computer was unplugged while operating.

What might be the problem/ what can I do to fix this?

Thanks again.

A:After power loss, XP won't restart

Boot from the XP CD, press "R" on the first screen, log into the Recovery Console, and run:

chkdsk /p

Chkdsk should always be run after an improper shutdown to repair disk errors.

If you have no disk, try Safe Mode. Run chkdsk /f and restart.

If you can't boot in Safe Mode and have no disk, make one:

XP Recovery Console CD Image With Formatting Enabled
Recovery Console ISO Image (original)

I'm trying to diagnose a problem with my laptop: When set to EFI boot mode, if I completely shut down and power off my laptop, it restarts by itself after a few seconds. This does not happen when the laptop is set to CSM boot mode.

I'm in the very early stages of troubleshooting; at this point I'm trying to determine whether this problem is unique to my computer, or whether other users have also experienced this. I haven't (yet) found anything similar from a web search. I wonder if it has anything to do with the Intel RST driver, but I'm not sure.

Has anyone heard of this?

A:EFI Mode Causes Restart After Power Off?

Apparently, this situation is unique to my computer. The problem happens when a specific piece of hardware (a portable USB 3.0 drive) is attached to my computer.

A:Power Outage and XP won't restart

Try to clear the CMOS by either removing the battery or the jumper method for about ten or fifteen minutes. See if that helps. Some times with a power outage, it corrupts the bios setting because it did not have a chance to save before it was shut down by the loss of power.

Don't forget to unplug the computer and ground yourself before working in that case.

Hello Everyone, I am new to this forum and this is my first post. I am running several CCTV as well as remote networking programs on my office computer which requires it to be Always on. I have connected a UPS but sometimes the UPS runs dry and the computer shuts down. Is there anyway to ensure that when power resumes the computer should reboot and restart ? All advice highly appreciated. The computer I have is a ASUS Pundit running Windows XP Pro.

This may end up being some sort of software problem but it started to occur after I upgraded my CPU, RAM, and MOBO. I cannot shut down or restart my computer through the start menu anymore. I have to hold down the power button every time I want to shut it off or restart. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi hope you can bare with me as this is a long one.

Im have a set of problems happening with my PC I don't know if it's one error causing many symptoms or a couple of things going wrong together.

First off about four months ago no booting up my PC, it started to reset itself on the Windows 2000 loading screen. It will get halfway through the blue loading dots at the bottom of the screen then reboot. It will do this 2-5 times before finally opening windows then everything would be fine. I would be able to restart with out any problems. If I shut down for the night the next day I have to go through it all again until it finally boots up.

I took this to be a registry corruption and so reinstalled the operating system, this didn't solve the problem. So over the months I've persisted with this problem. As I said once up and running the system would remain very stable no crashes or shut downs.

The other month a friend came to stay and had a look at the problem, he came to the same conclusion that its registry corruption, or a glitch on the hard drive so he formatted the drive and re-installed which still didn't resolve the problem.

My friend removed cards to try and determine if there was a hardware failure anywhere, and nothing seemed to resolve it.

He then fitted a new graphics card, and things took a turn for the worse. Initially all worked as usual still had the boot up problem, the card worked fine. But when we came to install a second operating... Read more

Just when I thought everything was cool. I have tried all that I know. Can anybody figure this out?

Symptom: When I go to shut down or restart it goes to a blue screen and stays there. I've even let it sit all night. It's not a BSD with a message, just a blue screen. I invariably end up pressing and holding the power button to cold boot the computer. There must be a better way!
One more note: I have trouble entering text into forms sometimes. Don't know if it's related or not. I don't want to confuse the issue.

Thanks, Eric

hi all
need a little advice on when the machine is turned on there is no output from the bios to start the boot-up process its happened about 4 times in the last month the fans/lights are running in the machine so its powering up ok just no BEEP and boot up it has done it today on a normal restart after updating some programs (urging me to post it in this thread) so i power off the machine and unplug the mains input and press power button for 8 secs to drain out power from psu/mboard and re-power up and the BEEP is there and bios kicks in and windows starts ok. now on my own research and looking at the problem i might be looking at having to replace the battery on the motherboard, but would appreciate anyone's feedback and advice many thanks brian

A:Bios not starting on power on/restart

It sounds more like a corrupt MBR issue than a BIOS one.

When I select shut down or restart, system saves settings & I get "Windows is shutting down" message but it must be shut off manually. However, it does shut down on it's own if I select stand-by. If I have installed software or hardware that require a restart, the restart is not acknowledged the next time the computer is turned on.
Another issue - - event #7 - hard drive has bad sectors. I think I have attached info saved from the event log. If it's not attached and could be useful, I'll try again.
My computer came with XP Pro installed....upgradeable to VISTA.....and VISTA is the software actually received so I have no XP Pro CD to try alternate bootup methods.
Alittle more background info - FYI -
I went through two UPS's (both indicated the house wiring was faulty) before my other half determined the wiring was in fact faulty and fixed it. That being said, this computer shut down fine for over a year plugged into the faulty outlet with the first power supply. I believe the power down problem started when I installed the 2nd UPS. Once the wiring was fixed, I installed another new UPS. The system recognizes there is new hardware but not the installation & restart.
And one more piece of info from defrag report.... 2 fragments - 8MB - could not be defragmented. Files are in \WINDOWS\System32\config\SYSTEM.

I am hooked up to a UPS, but after that runs out and I am away, I sometimes need to remotely logon - in which case I need the computer on. If I need to change something in the BIOS, please give specifics of how to do this as I have looked in there and found nothing related to this.

A:How to get auto restart after power outage?

Almost all the latest BIOSs have a setting for auto power on after power is restored.

In the BIOS in Advanced Power Management (APM) look for this option

Restore from AC power loss [always OFF| always ON| last state]

Set this to always ON, Save the BIOS settings and restart the system.
