Thinkpad X280 - Issue with CS18 Ultra Dock

Q: Thinkpad X280 - Issue with CS18 Ultra Dock

Hi there, when I undock my X280 from the Ultra dock (notebook closed but running) and open the lid the device will not respond to keyboard or trackpoint input.I need to close the lid again which triggers entering 'energy saving' mode. Then opening the lid again will resume everything to normal. I can reproduce this every time on two identical Docks. Funny thing is, my wifes identical X280 does not show this behaviour but works fine. Any idea what I could try to solve this small (but a bit annoying issue)?Thanks.Q.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I am not really sure if this is an X280, a CS18 (Pro) or a ThinkVision T24v-10 issue, maybe all of them - I post in this cateory anyway. When docked to the side dock which is connected to a ThinkVision T24v-10 (Display Port and USB 3 - yes, definitely a USB 3 port), the T24v's camera and microphone are extremly stuttering being effectively unusable for skype or any other form of VoIP. When the USB cable from the monitor gets connected directly to the still docked X280 (i7-8650, 16GB, [email protected]) using the right hand side USB port of the computer, it works without problems. But this obviously is not the idea of how to use a dock... Is this a well-known issue? Google didn't seem to know about this. Any dock-firmware or upcoming driver updates addressing this issue? Can't imagine that ThinkVision's "optimized for VoIP" camera shouldn't work properly while being connected to a dock. What did I miss?  Regards,Logan P.S.  Using stock Windows 10 installation plus additionally installed T24v-10 drivers.

Hi, Everyone. Got me a nice little x270 to replace my old x201.  Happy enough with the machine, but getting it connected to my accessories (monitor, keyb, mouse, ethernet) is a bit of a chore. This machine appears to have a "proper" dock port on the bottom.  Is there a compatible ultradock available for the model 20HN x270?  By proper - I mean, Not USB.  A nice dock I can simply drop the machine into when I'm at the home office.. Thanks!

I am just going to guess that computer is trying to boot via USB, so you might try changing the boot order in the BIOS so that Windows Boot Manager or the HD is first.

Hi, I am looking for some help, I have a T450 that has been working away on a Thinkpad Ultra Dock with no issues, then all of a sudden it will not charge while docked!! Take it out of the dock and charge directly and it works fine, I tried replacing with a new docking station the exact model but again it does not charge the laptop while in the dock, I have switched out the battery and it is still the same. I have fully updated the BIOS etc and still have the same issue, I tried updating the Ultra Dock firmware but run into issues as the firmware update will only run while docked and also has power, but as the laptop is not detecting power I cannot proceed , I tried updating out of the dock but it does not proceed either as it cannot detect the docking station. Everything else works via the docking station HDMI, USB, DVI, Ethernet  all working perfect, has anyone came accross this issue?

Hi,  I'm using a Lenovo P51 with M2200 graphic card and have a docking station 40A2. I wish to connect the two monitors to my docking station, one is VGA cable and another one is HDMI. When I dock my P51 to the docking station, the monitors could not be detected. I tried to configured my bios setting to discrete graphic setting but nothing changed. Try to put shared on dock display also but nothing works.  When I connected one of the monitor HDMI cable to the laptop directly without going through the docking station, it works perfectly but I could not connect the VGA cable monitor to the laptop without a converter and it defeat the purpose of having a docking station.  Anyone encounter this problem and has a solution for this problem?

Hi.  I'm hoping I can get this resolved on this forum.I just got my system and am trying to connect my 3 external monitors.    My setup is as follows:Monitor 1 - laptop screen - works.Monitor 2 - HDMI out to HDMI in - worksMonitor 3 - DP out to HDMI in via a DP-HDMI cable.  - worksMonitor 4 - DP ou to DVI in via a DP-DVI adapter - doesn't work. I can't figure out how to make this work.I also tried this setup:Monitor 1 - laptop screen - works.Monitor 2 - VGA out to VGA in - worksMonitor 3 - HDMI out to HDMI in - worksMonitor 4 - DP out to HDMI in via a DP-HDMI cable.  - doesn't work. Incidentally in this configuration, when I closed the laptop screen this monitor worked.  Also on a related note, the Nvidia Quadro P500  is sitting idle as the Intel UHD 620 is doing all the work.  How can I control this? Thanks for any suggestions. Sal

A:Thinkpad P52S Ultra Dock and 3 External Monitors

As stayed in PSREF, P52s supports up to three independent displays. Laptop's screen includes in this limit, meaning you can use two external displays at that time. When you close the lid, you can use three external displays. To use more, you'll need some sort of USB adapter to increase such a limit. Regarding other question, you can't disable Intel GPU - it's always active and it's always controls screen output. NVIDIA's dGPU can be configured to be used in selected applications, making them to work with higher performance. P52 and P72 for sure have an ability to disable Intel iGPU, giving the control of screen output to dGPU. Probably P1 and/or X1 Extreme have the same feature too.

Yesterday, I updated my T450s and, among other updates,I updated the Ultra Dock 90W firmare to version 2.29.00.  Afterward, when the laptop is docked, with the cover shut, and I try to power up the unit, it won't do so.  When I open the laptop in the dock, the power indicator is green and there is a green light on the function key.  No matter what I try, the machine won't power up after this.  If I force it to shut down and then try to power it up open instead, it powers up normally and both the laptop screen and the attached monitor work and, if I close the cover after, the attached monitor still works.  Obviously, I can use the machine docked with this work around, but I can't figure out why it won't work when I try to poweer it up closed.  I subsequently updated to version 2.30.00 and the behavior continues. What am I missing here?

I have a Thinkpad W540 with a Lenovo Ultra Dock Docking Station (40A20170US). A:Unable to connect to 3 monitors to Ultra Dock (Thinkpad W540) in Advanced Mode BIOS Setting

So I fixed the issue for myself and just wanted to post in case somebody else had the same issue.  I took the following steps to fix the issue:[Background: BIOS is in "Standard" display mode to begin with; I had already updated the docking station's firmware first with a program called fwdphb03.exe and then with Lenovo's update utility.]1) In Windows, I uninstall drivers for the Intel Graphics and K1100 dedicated card.2) Restart, go into BIOS, switch to "Advanced" mode under the Display tab.  I also have the option selected to start up on the docks in the BIOS Display tab.3) Booted into Windows (8.1) and it looked like the Intel Graphics drivers were automatically downloaded. I then ran Lenovo's System Update utility to get the latest video drivers.  Under the optional tab in the Lenovo update utility, I selected the "Optimus" drivers and hit download/install.  It installed, and I had to restart.4) Booted into Windows again, ran Lenovo update utility again, and again it had a video driver to install when I checked for updates.  I installed that, had to restart again.5) Booted into windows, checked screen resolution and saw that no external monitors were showing.6) I then decided to get a driver straight from the source.  Downloaded: the following file from  Nvidia: 334.95-quadro-notebook-win8-win7-64bit-international-whql.exe.  I ran the installation, it did a "Clean" installation with everything checked off. Hello Everyone, I am having an issue with the NIC on the Ultra Slin dock 2013.  It will occasionally lose connectivity throught the NIC on the dock.  If I go into Device Manager, there is a bang on the Intel Ethernet Connection I218-LM.  I downloaded a fresh copy of the driver from the HP site and it installs without issue.  This reactivates the NIC on the dock and it will work for a period of time but then it will drop and show a bang on the NIC again. Also, there is a bang on the Intel Mnagement Engine Interface.  When attempting to reinstall the drive it fails and the shows a code 10 error in Device Manager. I am not sure if this is an issue with the dock or the laptop itself.  Any ideas, suggestions, input, or opinions are greatly appreciated.  Thank you all in advance for the time.  Have a fantastic day!  Respectfully, George D.

Good day everyone: I'm experiencing an issue with my Lenovo E570 ThinkPad(Windows 10 Professional)/Ultra dock USB 3.0 combo when using either DraftSight or Sketch Up .  I have two ViewSonic monitors, one plugged into the Display Port and one into the HDMI port.  When I open DraftSigh or Sketch Up the drawing enviroment is displayed in gray colour only.  The tool bars surrounding the drawing enviroment are displayed correctly and are fully active.  When the cursor is moved over the drawing area it disappears from view however the program is still aware of the location of the cursor as the corordinate system tracks its movement in the drawing enviroment.  This issue persists when a known good drawing is opened.  If I unplug the Thinkpad from the dock and plug one of the external monitors into the Thinkpad directly both DraftSight and Sketch up funtion normally.  I believe that I have the driver updated to the most recent vesion as per the Lenovo support site and various fix posts, see screenshot below.  My Lenovo set up is only a few weeks old.  My previous laptop/docking station combo (non-Lenovo) drove the twin viewsonics and diplayed DraftSight and Sketch Up correctly.  Has  anyone had a similar issue that they have been able to correct or does anyone have any thoughts on what could be causing this issue?

To Whom It May Concern, This has been a nightmare trying to get support for a 3-year Worldwide Warranty product that my company purchased a little over 1 year ago. The dock's DisplayPort seem to not be working properly. The monitor that is connected to it will randomly go blank. I've tried updating to the latest drivers and firmware for the dock. I tried switching monitors and switching cables. I've tried moving around USB devices to make sure it isn't interfering with operation. I've tried connecting the bare minimum to the devices and the problem persisted. I need the DisplayPort as I am running a dual monitor setup. I contacted the Customer Service line to get support. To my dismay, I was told my product was not under warranty and had to send in a copy of the invoice for my product. The support rep gave me an email address to their entitlement department and was told I will receive a response within 24-48 hours. It's been 96 hours now and no response. I try calling again to check on my status, but told the same thing and that they don't have the service case in their system. I hope some Lenovo rep can see this and provide some assistance.

Hey all, I cannot hook up my Laptop to the aforementioned docking station without experiencing one or more of the following issues right upon booting up the system: 1.) Video signal does not seem to go through to monitors (black screen).2.) USB periphery (keyboard and/or mouse) is not recognised / usable.3.) Short periods of black screen while windows is running. The issues can be circumvented by either repeated hard reboots or by hooking the laptop to the docking station after the boot up process is completed. Occasional black screens will remain however. I already tried running all Lenovo Software / Firmware updates available for the laptop as well as the docking station - to no avail. Is anyone experiencing similar issues or has anyone figured out a solution yet? Cheers

When a Windows 8 ThinkPad Yoga is connected to a ThinkPad OneLink Pro Dock (Model DU9033S1) which has a sound cable placed into its headphone jack, every few seconds the sound will alternate between the laptop speakers and the docking station. It appears that the connection to the docking station is briefly lost (sound comes from laptop speakers), and then re-established (sound goes to docking station). However, during this "disconnect/connect", all other aspects of the docking station are unaffected (video, network, USB).

Updating BIOS, audio drivers, dock drivers & firmware have had no impact. If sound cable is removed from dock, then behaves normally (sound goes to dock only). Happens with multiple Thinkpad Yogas and multiple docking stations.

I am not sure if I'm posting this question in the right section. After signing up, I found it very difficult to work out where to post! Anyway, I am thinking of buying either an Ideapad 720s (13", core i7 8th Gen, 8GB Ram, 256 GB SSD) or a Thinkpad x280 (12", core i7 8th Gen, 8GB Ram, 512 GB SSD), and I believe they both have Thunderbolt 3. So I was wondering if there are significant differences between them. Where I am, the Ideapad is around the $1,000 mark, while the Thinkpad is about $400 more expensive. Is the Thinkpad really that much better, and if so, how? Thank you.

tl;dr Is the Thinkpad x280 flawless for Ubuntu 18.04? Hello. I recently acquired myself a X1 Yoga 3rd gen with the hopes that I would have a nice experience running Ubuntu. Unfortunately, from day one I encountered issues with it: X1 Carbon Gen 6 cannot enter deep sleep (S3 state aka Suspend-to-RAM) on Linuxhttps://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Linux-Discussion/X1-Carbon-Gen-6-cannot-enter-deep-sleep-S3-state-aka-S... Touchpad and trackpad work erratically after I close and open the laptop's lid (suspending and resuming). I need to reboot everytime.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Linux-Discussion/Thinkpad-X1-Carbon-Yoga-3rd-eratic-Mouse-and-Keyboard-... Others that I found about online after acquiring the machine:FYI - Linux May Not Support Thunderbolt Native Mode (seems to be solved)https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Linux-Discussion/FYI-Linux-May-Not-Support-Thunderbolt-Native-Mode/m-p/... Linux throttling bug (T480s)https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/870u0a/t480s_linux_throttling_bug/ And from Linux's side, poor consideration for touchscreens. Sadly, I have no choice but to return this machine next week. I feel these are nice machines in theory, and I would be willing to give them one more try. I was considering the Thinkpad x280 and I want to run Ubuntu 18.04 again. I would like to ask if any of these issues persist, or any other issues I'm not aware of show up when running Ubuntu, or any other Linux distro.

Hello!I try to configure ThinkPad X280 with 16Gb RAM and cheapest processor  i5-8250U, but it is not allowed. Is it marketing or techical feature? Can I upgrade X280's RAM from 8 to 16 in future, if I buy cheapest version now?

A:ThinkPad X280: i5-8250U + 16Gb?

The X280 has RAM soldered to the main board so it can't be expanded or swapped out. If you need 16GB, buy the one with 16GB RAM.

I have the new ThinkPad x280. I need to be able to connect using a SIM card. My model is 20KF 001LV.  I am trying to figure out if my laptop model supports the SIM option, if it has a nano-SIM card slot or not. There is no indication or way to see in the settings.

A:Thinkpad X280 - nano-SIM card

X280 have a dual nanoSIM and microSD card tray located at the back of the case (check HMM on page 82 for more information). In order to use WWAN Internet connection, you also need a proper WWAN modem installed on the motherboard. Check if Fibocom L830-EB or Fibocom L850-GL is listed in Device Manager.
