My Core 2 Duo E4300 is running too hot :(

Q: My Core 2 Duo E4300 is running too hot :(

I'm very worried about it

Just look at this image:

It is running WAY too hot. All my case fans are running @ 100%, the CPU fan runs above 2000 RPM's, and my room temp is about 72F (gets up to 90F or a bit more in summer).

My Vcore is running normal, I just overclocked my CPU to E6400 speeds (1.8 Ghz stock).

What should I do? Reduce my overclock, reseat the ****ing Intel HSF, or what?

I don't want to kill my precious CPU

Any advice?

EDIT: I measured the temp using CoreTemp, and I've got mixed results:

Intel's TAT reports worse temperatures, while Core Temp shows better ones. What program should I trust?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

DAMN that is hot! Try getting more cooling in there ASAP and downclocking the frequency. Also, try keeping the PC away from direct sunlight, since that causes the air in the case to heat up.

Ok... the E4300 can supposibly run at 1.8GHz at 200FBS w/ 9x multiplier.
The E6300 can run at 1.8GHz at 266FBS w/ 7x multiplier.
Ok right now they seem the same, but the 4300 will cost lower.
The only thing missing from the 4300 is the virtualization technology.

I am using bios revision 5.3, an Orion HP 400D power supply, Kingston DDR-2 667 memory with CL 5,Lite On DVD burner, Wd 2500KS hard drive and an A-open cd-dvd drive.

A:Poor overclock with Core 2 Duo E4300 and Msi 945gm3-f motherboard

That chipset is not one of the better ones for overclocking. 965P, 680i, 650i, and to a lesser extent 975X are the best Intel chipsets for overclocking. One suggestion though. Try increasing the voltage a tiny bit and see if that lets you go further.

Which of these processors is the best choice as a replacement processor for my HP Pavillion a6057c computer, any of which HP says can be used to replace the Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 processor in my computer? The recommended replacement processors HP recommends are: Core 2 Duo E6x00, Core 2 Duo E4x00, Pentium D 9x0 Dual Core, Pentium D 8xx Dual Core, Pentium 4 6x1 series, or the Celeron D 3xx series? I'm having an issue with my CPU. It seems that it is only using one of its cores. This issue first became apparent to me when I was trying to run Blacklight Retribution. It popped up a warning message saying that my computer does not meet the minimum requirements of have at least a dual core. And indeed the game was unplayable, with single digit fps constantly.

However when i go to the performance tab of my task manager it shows 4 graphs, meaning that 4 cores must be running. Then I go the boot tab of my systems configuration, click on advanced options and underneath the "Number of Processors:" check box (which is unchecked), it shows 1 as the number of processors.

My processor is an Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.60GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.6GHz.

These seem to be conflicting and I'm not sure what to do. Please help me.

According to PC Wizard 2006, both my cores on my core 2 duo e6300 are running at 100degrees celcius. PCW also sais that my ram is running at 333mhz even though its 667mhz ram...?

Any ideas on the cause/solution for this?

A:Why is my core 2 duo e6300 cpu running at 100c and my 667 ram running at 333mhz?

DDR2 667 = 333.33 x2 = 667MHz. It is showing the true speed of your ram, but as it is DDR2, it is "double pumped" to an effective speed of 667mhz.

Also, your temps are too high. You should be in the 60c range. Check in your bios to see if it is also showing high temp readings there. It could also be an out of date bios, but if your temps really are that high, you'll want to reseat that CPU with some new thermal paste.

A:Core i7-720 running extremely hot

i7s (and nearly all other nahelem processors) will run hotter than previous generations of quad-core cpus, especially inside a laptop. i don't think you have too much to worry about, but if you have access to the processor without to much disassembly you may want to consider applying a more conductive thermal compound, to suppress the heat a bit more. you may also want to check if the cooling fan is working properly like you said.

First of all, I am curious what the difference is between the 2 CPU readings as one is nice and cool while the other is ridiculously hot.

I am using a Core I7 processor with the heatsink and fan that it comes with. How is it running this hot? I just re-seated it and cleaned all of the dust out without any luck.

Note that these readings are when the CPU is fully loaded, not idling. I used speedfan to make all of my CPU related fans always on max as well which also changed nothing.

Is there anything I can do other than buying some watercooling system or new components?

Hey people, I've been having a little trouble, you see I would really like to overclock my CPU, which after reading a number of other forum threads would be fine on stock cooling past 3GHz. The problem is though, my CPU seems to run way hotter than everybody else's on stock cooling. I've read of people getting up to easily past 3GHz on stock cooling barely breaking 60C if even that. But I've been testing mine at stock settings using CPU Stability Test 6.0 and Core Temp 0.99.4, and after about 3 mins of the stability test it settled at around 74C on core1 and 70C on core2. Now I'm worried that if I overclock it's going to run dangerously hot. Does anybody have any suggestions or things to check other than buying a new cooler? If not, then I will likely consider buying one, because it just seems to be running at least 10-20C hotter than everyone else with the exact same setup. Anyway, thanks in advance.

A:Core 2 Duo e6750 Running hot

Check the heatsink's four mounting points to see if they are solidly in. If any of them have come loose, it will lose enough contact with the CPU to let it overheat. If any are loose, while you can pop it back in for the time being, you should eventually remove it, clean it, reapply thermal compound and reinstall it.

No, not correct. That board supports 6 core cpus with a bios update. You must have 2005 or later to support the cpu.

If you are running a bios that does support that cpu, then list ALL of your specs ie brand and wattage of pw supply, brand, speed, and amount of ram, what video card is installed, etc, etc.

Here is the cpu support page for that board from asus

I had another break down yesterday while swapping out an under voltage PSU for one that was up to scratch. Now in doing so I have put enough pressure on the large Arctic Freezer 13 Pro cooler to break what I found to be a VERY flimsy retaining bracket.
This allowed the Intel Q9650 to run away and I didn't notice it for some time as the cooler tower looked to be in place and it wasn't until things started to go ape that I knew something was up.

Now i have it up and running again reinstalled the OS and find it is running very slowly have redone the compound twice now but the temp is still reaching 70C during say a MBAM scan plus Core Temp is now reporting only one core.

So not having this problem before can a quad core run on one only?

Mt other query is that I use this machine to test other softwares before using them on my man machines and if I have to would this set up be ok for just general use?
I intend using the case although I cannot access the backside of the motherboard for a back plate for instance the PSU is ok and I have a stack of DDR3 RAM I can use
With a budget in mind the parts in question are $280 all up

Intel Pentium G2130
ASUS H61M-A-USB3 Motherboard
CoolerMaster Hyper T4 CPU Cooler
ASUS GeForce GT 620 1GB or Gigabyte GeForce GT 610 Silent 1GB (I could possibly do without this so $600 less)

I just put together my new computer, but it's acting strange at times. The computer has the following:

MB: Asus P5K WiFi-AP
CPU: Core 2 Duo 6420
RAM: 2 GB OCZ Dual Channel 1066 Hz (2 x 1 GB DIMM)
GPU: XFX GeForce 8800 GTS
HS: WD 160 GB
CD-ROM & Floppy: these drives came w/ the Gateway computer that occupied the case before this computer!

I just put it together and installed windows, so there are no programs on it except the drivers for the hardware and the ASUS utilities provided with my mother board. It starts up nice and quickly, but shortly after windows starts, the computer becomes sluggish for a few seconds (The cursor stutters as it moves, etc), then returns to normal. The odd thing is that there are no programs running, and the process list shows nothing in the background is using the processor, but one of the processors is completely occupied. It always does this shortly after startup, and sometimes does this later on too, though there doesn't seem to be any reason. I included some screen shots that have more information.

Ok, well, the problem seems to be "fixed". (Knocks on wood!) I went through and disabled as many startup options as I could, and it didn't seem to help. I unistalled as many of the drivers as i could and basically stripped it down to a nearly fresh install, also to no avail. So I reformatted and reinstalled XP, and it seems to be fine now. I've reinstalled the drivers (but not any of the utility programs) one by one trying to find out which one caused the computer to lag, and none of them created any problems. So as far as I can tell, it was either one of the ASUS utility programs, or it was some kind of fluke!

Hi,
I have just installed an AMD Athlon 4800+ Dual Core socket 939 processor (Retail) along with the heatsink and cooling fan it came with.
Everything booted up fine and the processor was immediately recognised.
The cooling fan ran at 1600rpm at idle.
I then loaded it up with 3 multimedia programs doing stuff and got both cores working 100%. The temperatures rocketed from 42 Deg C at idle to a massive 70 Deg C. At which point I stopped all programs. The core temp then feel quickly back to 42 Deg C.
Could someone advise me what to do? I know there are many retail fans out there that are better than the AMD stock coolers, but surely the AMD's should at least keep the thing from melting???
I would appreciate you comments. By the way I'm running at standard BIOS settings. No overclock.

Upon fresh boot, 4 CPU is running at 100% for 65 min?
Thanks for suggestions to my postings!

When I start up my computer, I notice that the HDD LED is constantly in the ON state, as oppose to the usual blinking. When the HDD LED stays on constantly, it pretty much indicates, to me, that the CPU running at 100%. At this point, Key board/mouse won't respond.

I opened Task Manager and no other programs were active at this time. I find all (4 core) CPU at 100%. I find task manager at high CPU use. Even if I close task manager CPU usage is not coming down.

I did adjust the affinity for task manager, but no improvement.

I ran sfc /scannow, chkdsk. Nothing reported .

What am I missing here?

Is there a way to get memory dump/memory snapshot to figure out, what is going on?

Is it possible for some programs to run without showing up in task manager?

Thanks for sharing.

Snapmit, can you upload the .dmp file? Just copy it from the minidump folder and zip it up. That is unreadable.

Also, this may be either a heat problem or incompatible BIOS. Make sure that your temps are reasonable.

Ok, I have a question, as I am currently not in a position to purchase a new computer, I decided to upgrade the one I have, the new specs are listed above, drives C: and F: are now SSD's Drive C: is a Crucial 525GB SSD and drive F: is a SanDisk 120GB SSD, I recently got hold of a new CPU, the q6600 for around 10 GBP(approx 12.71USD) at current rates I also purchased a new stock CPU cooler as my old one had been in the machine for around 7 years and when I removed it one of the locking pins fell apart(very brittle) now this CPU upgrade works absolutely fine (the old one was an Intel Celeron E3400 dual core 2.6 GB), but I am concerned about the temperatures the q6600 runs at with the new stock cooler, it idles around 45 - 53 deg C but when running a game it can peak a... Hi guys,

I think my Core i5 2500K is running too hot and causing a BSOD in Handbrake when encoding large files. I've been leaving my PC on overnight to recode some MKVs for my Plex server, but every couple of nights it will turn itself off or reboot after what is apparently a BSOD error.

The main error report I see when logging back into Windows says:

I started another file encoding on Handbrake and then ran HWMonitor to check the temps. The CPU is running at over 90C, which seems pretty bad to me. I turned off Handbrake and the temps immediately dropped to 50C. You can see what HWMonitor was showing under load here:

I have uploaded the full HWMonitor.txt report here.

A:Core i5 2500K running hot, causing BSOD 124?

No readable DMP included.
Do it this way...

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

A:i7 core, 8 gigs of ram, running extremely slow

A Gateway FX6860 desktop with an Intel Core i7-2600 processor and 8 GB of RAM definitely shouldn't be running slow, so let's check a few things.

Go here to download and save Malwarebytes AdwCleaner to your desktop.
If you get a warning that this file is unsafe, ignore the warning.
Close all open windows first, then double-click the AdwCleaner.exe desktop icon to load its main window.
Click the "Scan" button, then allow the scanning process to finish.
Several seconds may pass before the scanning process starts and completes, so be patient.
If any threats are found, the number found will appear in red.
Click the "Logfile" button.
When the log appears, save it.
Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE log here.
After you submit the log, close Malwarebytes AdwCleaner.
If a warning appears, click "Yes".

Go here, then click the "Download Now @ Author's Site" button to download and save TFC.exe (Temp File Cleaner by OldTimer) to your desktop.
After it's downloaded and saved, close all open windows.
Double-click it to load its main window.
Click the "Start" button.
If there are a large number of temp files or if there are multiple user accounts, the temp file deletion process may appear to freeze and may take a few minutes, so don't interfere with or abort it.
After it's finished, restart the computer if prompted to.
Advise how many temp files in MB's were found and deleted.

Okay sorry bout my last post, but i did buy a new computer now ^w^

Though anyways im asking this, I noticed that you can set up a gaming server (Dedicated of course) And leave it running, Though of course my new computer could do pretty well with it, i though the task would be best kept with it running on it's own on my older Core 2 Duo E7300

The program im likely going to be using for running the gaming server is SRCDS (source/valve games of course) And if the core 2 duo is good enough im hopefully going to be wanting to runnn, say 2-3 servers at once if it can cope?

(RAM is 4GB btw)

I also got the thing as i noticed a post around someone saying they ran a server fine with a ancient athlon or something like that.

A:Running a Gaming server using a core 2 duo computer?

Your server will be mostly limited by your internet bandwidth.

My computer is fairly powerfull, at least enough to run a sever 24/7.
However my connection is barely 5Mbps, this only lets me support 4 players in say. A minecraft server, if anymore join lag and tearing appears for my users.

Since I don't want to pay extra to get more speed, paying someone else to host my server is way cheaper at a month to month basis. 10 dollars a month.

Something to consider.

Sup all, A friend of mine has a Phenom II X2 550, that he Unlocked to a Quad Core.
Then in MSCONFIG, i Enabled all 4 Processors upon boot up.
He restarted, and lines appeared throughout the POST screen and the resolution in windows was set to low.
So he immediately reverted back to one core.
Then he tried to play Call of duty world at war and was experiencing Low Fps and allot of lag.
Some games wont even Load.

CPU-Z shows 1 Core.
Windows Device manager Shows 4,
Resource Monitor shows activity on all 4 Processors,
The BIOS shows 4.......

Tried a system Restore.
The latest Drivers have been installed for Mo/BO.

Any 1 Any Suggestions.
Could Changing the Start up have killed the other 3 cores??

I'm having a problem with my cpu cores, when i checked my system with cpu-z, it came out:

Processor 1 ID = 0

Number of threads 2 (max 4)
Name Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
Codename Kentsfield
Specification Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
Package (platform ID) Socket 775 LGA (0x4)
CPUID 6.F.B
Extended CPUID 6.F
Core Stepping G0
Technology 65 nm
Core Speed 2996.9 MHz
Multiplier x FSB 9.0 x 333.0 MHz
Rated Bus speed 1332.0 MHz
Stock frequency 2400 MHz
Instructions sets MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSSE3, EM64T, VT-x

L2 cache 2 x 4096 KBytes, 16-way set associative, 64-byte line size
FID/VID Control yes
FID range 6.0x - 9.0x
Max VID 1.288 V

And my question is:
Number of cores 2 (max 4)
Number of threads 2 (max 4)

Why is it? And if after I (hopefully) open the 2 other cores, do I have to change the voltage? Currently my cpu is overclocking, with 1.3125 voltage...

Here is my mobo specs:
manufacturer Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
product P35-DS3P
version: F4
Rev: A2
Socket 775LGA

So is there anything I can do to have 4 cpu cores running at the same time?

Sorry for my crappy English, I'm from Vietnam

A:Bottle Neck When running Google Crome With Core i3 2nd Gen

I have a computer that has 2 GB of RAM at 1066 MHz which is 1 yr. old, when I use google chrome, firefox and CS5 at the same time it only uses 61-65% memory, its weird that you only have one page open on chrome and it uses 200 MB memory, Are your browsers up to date? If not update it. I think it has something to do with your RAM, probably you have a memory leak from what I know. What are the extension and add-ons in your chrome that is using that much RAM? I have 32-bit W7 when its idle it uses 20% memory.

Hi guys,
always been a windows xp pro and windows 7 enterprise user.
Yesterday I received a brand new HP envy with the fastest i7 quad core processor and windows 8.1.
The good news is that I do not understand people who have difficulty using windows 8.1 because it's so different. The only difference are the apps and the touch screen. Other than that all is the same.

I have one huge problem. Windows 8.1 is so slow it's close to unusable. Programs take 10 seconds or more to load. Boot up is 4 times as long as windows 7. Actually I do not care too much about boot up, because that is only done occasionally.
The fact that programs take for ever to open really annoys me.

You know how older computers take for ever to load stuff? I feel exactly like that.
I am hardwired by Ethernet, I do not trust wireless.
thanks

Hello and welcome!

Since it is new it could be doing a lot of updates in the background and system cleanup which can really slow things down. Is there a lot of hard drive activity and what does Task Manager show? Especially CPU and network activity.

Hi

I have a Dell Laptop with an Intel Core i5-4210Y processor. The processor should run at 1.5Ghz with turbo up to 1.9GHz.
Intel Core i5 4210Y Notebook Processor - NotebookCheck.net Tech

For the last month I notice my computer incredible slow, 1080p YouTube videos won?t play smooth in fullscreen for example. Checking my CPU with different utilities I saw that no matter what I?m doing it is always at 0.59Ghz only. Even I tried cinebench and other intensive tasks and nothing. That?s why is running so slow. It checked online and I saw plenty of people with the same problem but no solutions.

What I know:
- It?s not a hardware problem or a limitation of the chipset or BIOS because if I restart in safe mode the processor is running at 1.5Ghz as it supposed to.
- I tried ThrottleStop but it says that my processor speed is 0.59Ghz max and no throttle.
- I read people saying is due the Intel Dynamic Platform & Thermal Framework. In settings power limit and acoustic limit are both at 5 and TDP level is correct. I tried to uninstall and still at 0.59Ghz, and reinstall latest version and nothing.

I?m quite sure formatting and reinstall windows might solve the problem, but if possible I would like to avoid that. Any ideas how could this be fixed?

Thanks

Hi,
I got a new Aurora R7 yesterday, with Intel core i7-8700 CPU. Right off the bat, when I was installing browser, and doing other small stuff, I could see that the fans would spin at high RPM and create a lot of noise.
I opened Command center and saw that at small loads 15-25% of CPU, the package temperature was high, from 68C going to 84C and fans would spin high and it would again come down to 60s.
I decided to do stress test using Dell Support assist and temperatures reached 98-99C within 3 minutes and fans were blowing so hard it felt like an airplane was about to takeoff.
I decided to dig further and downloaded Intel Extreme Tuning utility. When I run stress test, I can see that MAX Core Frequency drops to 4.28 GHZ and temperatures rise to more than 90C. It does not reach the processor max speed of 4.60 GHZ at all during stress test.
I feel there is an issue in how the CPU and Heat sink are connected and something is wrong.
What do you guys think?

Hello.

I've got this Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Si 3655 Laptop, with the processor stated in the title, it's pretty old. Lately it started shutting itself down while under a load (playng Terraria.. Not that big of a load really). So I downloaded a tool and it's telling me I'm running at a steady 60C while under normal everyday use (browser open with a few tabs open, steam, skype). I don't belive this is normal since my desktop is running at around 40C while gaming. I give a guess that it runs at 50C idle.

Last time it was opened for cleaning was maybe an year ago. I don't know what it's normal temps are because I've never tested the heat before.

Is this way too high for a laptop?

My (AMD PHENOM 9850 QUAD CORE) system was pre-made from a so called professional computer firm in the UK knocking out over 20 PC base units a day on ebay at this same spec (45W PSU and quad core chips) and have their own site/store with 12 months warranty. Seems all above board.

They have used a 450w PSU to run this machine (was mentioned in the spec too), but people tell me that you need 650w PSU to power a high spec machine as this.

At the moment there is minimal hardware i.e 1 SATA drive, 1 DVD drive, 4 gig of DDR2 800 RAM, ati HD2400 video graphics card and appears to be running fine (XP Pro SP3 32 bit version). I only need the machine for audio editing/production and maybe the odd game out of boredom tho not really into gaming at all and dont care for it one bit, so i'm wondering is it sheer madness that this sytem is running on 450W PSU? I am thinking of adding another sata and/or cd/dvd drive at some point, plus a pro audio sound card in the PCI.
