Deploy Session Based Alert Templates to multiple machines/users

Q: Deploy Session Based Alert Templates to multiple machines/users

Hi, Ive been trying to get the following to work:-

1) Monitor a user session based counter on many deployed machines

2) To alert when that counter hits some defined value.

This may sound simple, and it is when you create the Alert manually on the machines when the user is logged on, but the problem is when you try and do this for multiple users who log onto that machine. The issue I found is that when you choose the WMI Counter,
and select 'ALL SESSIONS' it doesnt actually do that, but just selects all current session it can 'see' to include in the monitor. This looks to only be an issue when you create it as an Alert though, as when you create it as a Performance Counter Data Log
it will work and record all session information. In fact you can see what I mean by simply creating two examples using the Processor Counter.

1) Create a new Data Collector Set from Performance Monitor

2) Select to create manually

3) Choose 'Create data logs - Performance counter'

4) Select Processor and Instances of selected object to be 'All instances'

5) You will see it lists this as \Processor(*)\* as the performance counter

This time create a new Data Collector Set for an alert as follows:-

1) Select to create manually

2) Choose 'Performance Counter Alert' this time

3) Select Processor and Instances of selected object to be 'All instances'

4) This time you will see it lists all counters is can see at that time.

Of course the problem with this is that the 'Alert' is then only being run for that session it selects at that time. So when you export the XML template and load it at user logon time (via a batch file and logman command line) this will not work because the
alert is set for a different user (for my requirement).

What I need is to be able to get the logman import of the XML template to be able to alert for any user session.

Hope this all makes sense and someone out there may have hit this issue before.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Problem: 500 XP machines, 550 Users, 20 Printers, in a building the sizes of 4 football fields. Users are on a standerd desktop, (for the most part). Roaming profiles are in use, (for the most part). Users will move from one machine to another. Using Roaming profile, you can keep thier drives mapped, however, when they print, they need to print to the closest printer.

Question, How do you get the machine to use the closest network printer with roaming profiles?

Thank you

Good morning,

I need a little help with a project I am working on. What I have is an incident alert system. I have attached an example workbook (Excel 2003) for easier understanding.

On sheet 1, column B4, I have a Data Validation List, whereby a user can select which area is being problematic. Column C is a free-text cell where they can type in a short message explaining what the problem is. Column D is a button that they click that will fire off an email to a group of managers.

Sheet 2 is a list of all the areas and the manager responsible for that area.

What I need is a one-button macro that will:

1) In Sheet 2 column A, automatically apply a filter, based on whatever is currently the value of Sheet 1, B4.(whatever the user selects from the dropdown list). This will possibly be a filter based on ActiveCell value, I think?

2) Send off an email to each manager of the area that has been filtered in step 1.

2.1) The contents of Sheet 1, B4 and C4 should be the body of the email.

To: John Smith([email protected]); Samuel Jackson([email protected])
Subject: SMS (this subject is always fixed as, yes, it's actually sending a text message via email to the manager's cell phone)
Incident: (value of Sheet 1, B4)Lobby - (value of Sheet 1, C4)Strange man loitering in the lobby.

Is this possible?

I hope I've explained clearly enough what I need. I'm not great at that. :s

Thank you very kindly in advance for your assistance. I... Read more

OK, here is the issue: My UEFI/SecureBoot enabled computers (Lenovo ThinkPad T430s, T440s, T440p, X230, X240, all 64bit) that are booting from WDS only get a 640x480 display resolution.
I'm using the unmodified WinPE 5 from ADK 8.1 but I have the same issue with WinPE 4 from ADK 8.0. Booting this WinPE 5 wim from USB results in a native (based on EDID, 1920x1080) resolution which is expected. Booting the same wim from WDS (tried 2008 R2
and 2012) I only get 640x480. Even after adding display drivers and providing an answer file the resolution stays at 640x480 when bootign from WDS.
As soon as I go back to BIOS or turn on CSM support with UEFI enabled, the display resolution is 1024x768 (no change on the WinPE wim, just different BIOS settings).
So, the question is, does anybody here boot a UEFI/SecureBoot enabled computer from WDS with the original WinPE 4/5 and gets more than 640x480?

A:Anybody trying to deploy a UEFI/SecureBoot based computer with WDS?

Based on my research, Once UEFI has determined which display is enabled to display the pre-operating system screen, it must select the mode to apply based on the logic in this article:
UEFI GOP mode Test

In your situation, it seem that in UEFI, display resolution is by default to set as 640*480.
As I known, MDT has integrated some scripts can bypass this.

I created a template for a e-document format of paper width 5.5 by paper height of 8.5. The margins all around were .75 except for the top margin.
Then I called it up and saved it as a word document or perhaps I had to save it as a rich text document. I don't think Word wanted to allow me to save it as a word document. I typed in my text. Great! I have something suitable for epublishing format.

But to save a lot of paper in editing, I called it up and charged the margins in Page Setup. Fine. Except the right margin in print preview still is 5.5. That is obvious. I am unsure about the other margins. Why can't I change how the document looks and will print to 8-1/2 by 11 so I can write, edit, and then change it back to the epublish format?

Plus, will I have trouble changeing the first line indents into tabs, which are required for e-publishing formatting?

What is going on with documents based on templates and formatting changes?

A:Word 2002 Page Setup Changes in Documents Based on Templates

Nothing, wing. It's something between the keyboard and the chair.

I don't quite understand what you're trying to do. You set the doc up to be statement size. Then you saved it as Rich text? Whatever for?

And then you changed the margins, but it didn't change anything?

Tell us:

1. What was the paper size when you first set it up, and what was the paper size after saving as RTF?

2. What were the margins before and after?

Hi All,

I have been searching the web and cannot seem to find a way to do this (it may not be possible). I work in the ICT department for a large organisation and we have just purchased some Dell Venue pro 11 tablets. Obviously they come with 8.1 installed and we are putting a new corporate 8.1 enterprise image on them.

We have nearly got everything the way we want it and now it has come to the stage of installing default 3rd party applications. We want some of these applications to be Metro/moderns apps and we want them to be installed for all users. From what I can see this is not possible.

Now the devices are tablets so we do want to use the touch screen apps some of which are only on the windows store. There will be several users on each device and they can change as time goes on so we dont want the users installing them. I am happy for the apps to go on either via MDT or GPO or even install them manually once so is this possible?

So for example is there a way I can install Adobe Reader touch for all users on a device?

If not I cannot believe the Microsoft would create a product where this cannot be done a it makes no sense at all to their core customers (Business/School).

I have read about sideloading but that is only officially for in house apps.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am trying to set up Win 7 Professional on three computers with the same MB.

I read the thread regarding the use of sysprep.

These are new instillations.

I have just been working under Audit Mode for the first instillation to move the Users folder to the D: drive. I ran the .xml file and am still in audit mode doing things like disabling certain services, etc.

I read that I cannot keep it this way, that I need to restore the users folder to the C: drive...however, no new account has been created.

Can I use the present image, that is prior to entering OOBE and using imaging software to clone what I now have to a second, install that SSD in another computer with a hard drive d:\ and have it boot up, still in Audit mode,

Then, on the new computer, will it boot up into Audit mode allowing me to go to OOBE and then find the D drive is linked...or will in not work that way.

A:Using Sysprep in Audit mode to deploy Win 7 multiple computers

Could you please explain your work flow, what you are doing and want to achieve a bit more detailed? What do you mean with being forced to move Users back to C:, that you cannot keep it as it is?

The Sysprep, to relocate the Users or to modify anything else should of course be the absolutely last thing to do after all customizations and such have been done.

Hi guys! I've been having a nagging problem for a couple of weeks now and not sure what it is.

My anti-virus program keeps popping up a window with this message: "The firewall has blocked Internet access to your computer (NetBIO Session) from (TCP Port 1871) (TCP Flags: S). Some pop up windows display different 'blocked Internet access' like '(NetBIOS Name) from (UDP Port 1025)'.
I use a local broadband service and the TCP/IP connection does not correspond with any of those that are blocked by the firewall.

These messages pop up almost every few minutes no matter which site I'm surfing. I just click the 'OK' button and carry surfing with no interruptions.

My question: Is this a virus? How do I stop it?

I use WindowsXP Pro, Zone Alarm and Ad-ware anti virus protection.

I tried searching for related problems on Google for 'NetBIOS Session and NetBIOS Name' but it was too much technical info for me to understand, even if it was a problem, leave alone what it is!

Any help will be appreciated.

It appears that NT 4.0 is kicking off various machines running Windows XP from the network, and won't allow users to access files on the server or other computers on the local network. I have fiddled with their accounts a couple of times (checking user logon names, permissions, etc) and without actually changing things have found the network to reappear on these machines. Without doing that every single time (which is every couple of days now), is there a way to make XP and NT interact a little better?

A:XP machines/users disconnected from NT server

We had the same problem with XP workstations connecting to win2k servers. I found an article on techrepublic.com which helped quite a bit. Here is their blurb & link:

After installing Windows XP Service Pack 1, you may experience problems
when communicating with Windows 2000 servers. Find out how to resolve
these issues by editing the Windows registry and policy settings, and
then join this article's discussion.
also at:

The article didn't address everything we saw. We also had to upgrade the drivers for our 3com firewall NIC's as well as turn off caching on fileshares in Active Directory. Turning off caching was the big one. Then workstations which had connected using caching had a little caching icon appear in the taskbar, which said "working offline" and the name of the server they couldn't connect to. We had to right-click that, get settings & disable to option to work offline via caching. Then everything was fine.

Hope that helps.
I know you have NT4 & not windows 2k, but they're similar enough that I figured a recitation of what we had to do might still apply.

Hey guys

I'm having trouble setting up my home network. What I'm trying to do is to add my remote PC' s User(myLaptop-Kevin) to the folder permission settings..

1. myLaptop is detected in my Network. So I guess the physical connection is good. See picture.

2. Also, the remote computer/user is Homegroup'ed to this computer.

3. But when I try to share a folder or especially a Drive thru Right Click>Properties>Sharing>Advanced Sharing>Permission>Add.. the remote user is not detected..

4. And when I try to type my remote computers name and user manually, it says 'Name Not Found'.

5. I also cannot access mapped network drive from my remote laptop..
The reason for this question is that I want to define the access of my files through my network.

And also, I want to develop a visual basic application that can interface to the SQL Server 2008 Database installed on my Laptop..

I hope somebody can help me on this problem.. Since you are my only hope and Ive been scouring the net for two days now..

Thank You very much.

A:Detecting Users from remote Computers/Machines

If you right click on the file/folder/drive and go to Share With... you should be able to choose Homegroup from the list.

Also: In order to use a homegroup, all PCs have to be using Windows 7. Otherwise you have to use a workgroup.

User 1 logs in and works does whatever... Doesn't log out but screensaver goes back to user screen.
User 2 logs in (switching users - not logging out user 1) and gets to work.
Sometime later (ie. not right away) and not at a prescribed time, the network stops working.
I try to disable / enable the network adapter and the machine freezes.   Reboot fixes problem.
If user 1 or user 2 is the only one logged in then never a problem.
Anyone heard of this?
Thanks for any help!

A:Multiple Windows 7 Users-Switch between Users-network stops working

When switching users, it's always a good idea to have User 1 close out any applications and documents they have open and then log out before User 2 logs in. It sounds like you have fast user switching enabled, but I'm not aware of that causing any network issues -- unless User 1 was doing something that required a network connect.
Check the Event Viewer for error logs from the time it froze when you tried to disable and enable the network adapter. Post the event ID and description here if you need help diagnosing the issue from the log files. Perhaps another fix is to disable fast user switching, so that users are always forced to log out before someone else can log in.

Years ago, my friend and I would use a program called QModem (DOS terminal emulation software?) to dial each others' modems and chat in real-time. I mean the keystrokes would appear on the other end as they were typed. These days, instant messaging is instant as soon as you push the enter key. I would like to know how to do this "old school" style. Well, if we figured out how to do this 10+ years ago with 14,400 baud modems, surely there is a way to do it via the Internet now. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

And while I'm at it... is there freeware that will allow two people on the Internet to do application sharing? Thanks again.

A:how do I set up a peer-to-peer real-time text-based chat session

Most of that instant message type software is already very capable of displaying real time keystrokes because it will often indicate the person on the other end is typing a response before it is actually sent. I think there is some sensitivity to blatant real-time keystroke monitoring and allowance for modification of typos and incorrect or misleading sentence structure these days that is supposedly a more refined approach to "instant" communication. I tend to agree.

For the second part there are specific apps designed for sharing and collaboration such as the office-type suite of programs included in Google Docs and there's always the quasi "sharing" effect one gets with online assistance or remote access with collaborative functions enabled. Also, online apps such as Adobe Photoshop Express offer application sharing in the strict sense but you probably meant it to be real or near real-time collaborative as well?

I have a basic userform setup already that has contact info, etc. On one of the inputs, I am asking for a number of locations. Depending on this answer, likely 1-10, I want the user to then be taken to a second userform based on the number of locations input into form 1. If for instance, the user says 6 in this field, after hitting submit, I want the user to be taken to a form to fill out information for Location 1, then a form for Location 2, and so on until they are finished filling out the number of locations they specified.

I need all of that information posted into my worksheet in the specific sections with the same name (Location 1, 2, etc.)

How would I accomplish this task? I'm a noob to Excel, so go easy on me. I just figured out how to build a userform and have it post to the correct areas in my worksheet this morning.

A:Create Additional userforms based on users input

On the other hand, if it's simpler, I could have the number of Location fields populate in the first userform based on the number chosen, so that it would all be one simple form, the length of which would change based on the input of # of locations. Either way, I could use some assistance.

We have a single domain with around 120 users. WHen one user will highlight some text on their computer and copy it either through edit -> copy or Ctril + C, another users clipboard on a completely separate machine will be overwritten by
the new copied text from another user.  When that user goes to paste text, it is what the other user copied on their computer.  All machines are running Windows 7 64bit with the latest updates installed. Any ideas? These are stock machines with no
third party clipboard sharing tools installed and it seems to happen at random.

I would like one in one office and another in another office. Does anyone know a way to do this? I would appreciate any help you may be able to offer.

I upgraded from Windows 7 pro 64 bit to Windows 8 pro 64 bit on two computers and all went well for a day. After that I get the BSOD on both machines at least 8-10 times each day. I called the Windows help desk and was less than satisfied with their analysis skills since they did not even seem to care about looking at the DMP file even after I mentioned it several times. I zipped the dmp file in case anyone can read it. Thanks in advance.

I have just resolved this idential problem three times already today. You must uninstall your current anti virus and use the built in Microsoft Security Essentials/Windows Defender. Start with a restore point first, so that you can go back in the event of problems.

We have three medical clinics and the front desk staff float from clinic to clinic depending on their schedule.

I only started here a few months ago and I am working on upgrading their Dell xp systems to Windows 7 systems.

The problem begins to crop up when say a user named Sally will come in and sit down at this system for the first time.. Well, she needs to login, click on outlook icon, let it find her exchange PST and copy settings to her user profile, then she launches the application for the scanner that she uses to scan in ID's and insurance cards for every patient coming in.. The scanner is set to default settings and needs to be tweaked on color depth and double sided, etc.. Then after that, she needs to launch her Medical EMR application.. and then choose various options in the citrix client, ..

TL;DR - Each user needs to spend 20 minutes resetting the defaults at this updated system.

Well this is fine except, I am planning on updating 2 front desk systems at each clinic, the user Sally will need to do all these things EACH time she finds herself sitting down at a system I just swapped out the previous evening.

My thought is this, put a single system down in one clinic and let it sit a week giving most of the float users a chance to work on it for a day, setting all of their preferences etc.

Once I get a bunch of them with user profiles on the local drive, grab an image of that drive and just deploy that to each system I roll out..

Couple issues I... Read more

If Sally logs onto the computer with her name it should have all her preferences saved do you have a separate account setup for every user, maybe if you setup the account as admin to begin with then after everything is setup the way she likes remove the admin privilege and do the same for all users

What I mean by that is I have a customer that logs into a certain web application. The application allows simultaneous logins. The customer recently received an IE8 install (originally on IE6) and now they cannot be logged into the application more than once. She was able to perform this with no issue on IE6 but now with IE8 she cannot. This issue occurs if she opens a new window or tab. As soon as she logs into a second session the first initial one is terminated.

Any ideas? Are there any settings that need to be configured to allow this? It appears to be directly related to IE8.

Hi, I am running windows XP pro on the server with 8 computers running simultaneous connections to the shared drive.

However, when I run net session on the server, it shows multiple connections per computer, so someone is getting booted off. When I check the computers, there is only one mapped connection and one user logon.

How do I limit the connections to one per computer?

Hi everybody,
I have a remote connection that I need to configure 2 monitors. Each of them must be showing a different window full time (a monitoring activity).
In every forum that I visit, I have same answer: in Display tab of Remote Desktop Connection, tick "Use all my monitors for remote session".

But when I'm connected (remotelly) to my host computer, I try to Maximize and/or increase my remote screen and nothing happens, just 1 remote screen in 1 monitor.
In the Screen Resolution Configuration, it shows just 1 remote desktop (RDPDD Channel) monitor and I can't make any change about it.
I also tried to change some Local Group Policies as showed in Tech Community Microsoft Blog "Using Multiple Monitors in Remote Desktop Session", in both sides, host computer
and client computer.

And nothing happened, it seems that all different settings in Remote Desktop Connection on client computer doesn't take effect.
Is that something that I'm missing?
PS: Sorry for not posting images and links (I'm not allowed by this platform yet).

My first post here.

My question is about how I can set permissions for the users on a network of 3 x computers that all have Windows 7 Home edition to share folders.

Here?s what I?ve got. Three computers, each have 2 x users. The 2 users are 1 x Manager (Admin rights) and 1 x employee (User rights). On one of the computers I have folders which I?d like to share (read / write) with the managers, whilst there are only a few that I?d like to share with the employees.

So basically I have all business data stored on ?PC1? and I want the manager login on PC2 and PC3 to be able to view these folders. Restricted access for the employees.

Is there anyway I can do this ? I?ve been looking at Homegroups / Workgroups, but it seems I can either share with everyone or no-one.

If this is not possible, is there something I can do with an external hard drive or something else ? Or maybe I need a plan B ?

As a compromise, I?d be prepared to do ?plan B?.

Plan B would be:

PC1 has only 1 x user (Manager) and has all the data for the business in several folders.

PC2 has only 1 x user (Manager) and has access to ALL the folders on PC1

PC3 has only 1 user (Employee) and has access to a limited number of folders on PC1.

How would I plan B ?

Thanks in advance,

A:File Sharing and restricting between multiple users on multiple PC's

I'm not so sure about this working with Windows Home version because it's limited in certain areas like creating a Homegroup though it can join a Homegroup.

Here is the deal on separate shares for particular users. You need to add those users as standard accounts on which ever machine you need to set up the special shares for.

Once you add them to your machine as a standard user they will show up on the Share With list in the Homegroup permissions settings, at that point you can add them them and adjust the permissions as desired. It's really as simple as that.

We are currently facing issues with around 1500 Windows 10 systems that seem to have vcredist 2013 x64 corrupted and apps that use this component fail to install due to the below error.

Product: Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 x64 Minimum Runtime - 12.0.21005 -- A later version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 x64 Minimum Runtime -12.0.21005 is already installed.
Is there a possibility to use MicrosoftProgram_Install_and_Uninstall and deploy a script for it to remove just Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 x64 Minimum Runtime?
We have tried force uninstalling with the installation setup of vcredist via cmd, but that does not work.
Thank you!

Hey there

I have an ADSL connection, with a wireless router attached. Then have two laptops both connected via the wireless connection. When they are both being used, they usually cause an IP conflict causing one to drop the connection. I beleive this is because my connection has dynamic IP and both machines are trying to connect directly.

One laptop is my work machine and the other is my wifes home machine. Neither machine is on all the time so I havent tried setting up the internet connection sharing.

Any suggestions on how to set this up? I am thinking of using an old PC box as an always on directly connected to the ADSL line and then sharing the connection through there. If that is an option, what kind of specs should it have? Or is there an easier way?

Looks like we are going to roll out W7 on multiple machines. We have approx. 38 identical machines (XP) we want to install this too. I know we need to back up the data then do a "Custom" install, and reinstall the programs, but has anyone used anything that will speed up the process (SUS, Ghost, etc).
Oh, and would it be best to roll these out prior to our W2008R2 roll out, at the same time or W2008R2 first?

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

A:Install On multiple Machines at the same time

have you tested win 7 extensively in your environment. Networking, sharing, compatibilty with core apps?

For 38 machines its really not that bad. You can create images (ghost or acronis) you can also slipstream the upgrades and make it unattended. that number of machines can be done easily over the weekend with a little help.

Let me know if I can help, or if you have questions

Hi - We are finding multiple machines (setup identically) with BSOD appearing at different sites, whilst running out own application, need some help with interpreting the dump files which are attached, if anyone can point us in the right direction?

Tried using different brand machines but same error occurs, though this is limited to W7, XP did not suffer this issue.

Thanks again for your help - Sam

A:Regular BSOD on Multiple Machines

BugCheck 44, {fffffa80035d6010, 1d7b, 0, 0}

Probably caused by : srv2.sys ( srv2!Smb2FreeResponseBufferForAsyncCall+1c )

Usual causes: Device driver(s)
Run Driver Verifier to scan for any corrupted drivers which may be causing problems, this program works by running various stress tests on drivers, in order to produce a BSOD which will locate the driver; run for least 24 hours:Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

Additional Help - Using Driver Verifier to identify issues with Drivers

Scan for any missing, modified or corrupted protected Windows files with:SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Start Menu\Programs\Symantec
Start Menu\Programs\Symantec\Symantec pcAnywhere
Symantec software is known to cause BSODs, Windows has it's own native Remote Desktop Connection available here:Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) - Network
Install and perform full scans with:Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware download
Microsoft Security Essentials | Protect against viruses, spyware, and other malware

Remember to install the free version of Malwarebytes not the free trail; untick the free trial box during installation. MSE is the most lightweight and compatible with the Windows 7 operating system

Hi, i'm new here, already tried to search the site for help but can't find what i'm looking for. I have 3 computers that I have already reinstalled Xp on them. Problem is they wont validate because the disc that I used came with another computer and i'm using the product key off the computers that I was reinstalling XP on, and when I go to validate them the product keys obviously dont work because they are suppose to be used with the OS that they came with. I did not know this until it was to late. So my question is, is there a xp disc, software that I can use to put on my computers and then use the product keys that are on the case to validate. I also just bought a win7 full version, both 32 and 64 bit disc that I have put on my laptop. So could I use the Win7 disc and just buy the product keys if the the xp option doesn't work?

A:Using Single Xp OS disc on multiple machines

Welcome here.

I couldnt get you clear in your previous post.

You installed XP with the same key to 3 machines and when you went to validate, it isnt validating. You would buy a new win XP but still not willing to reinstall the XP. you are looking for a software so that you could just update the key on the already installed xp rather than installing all over again and validate. If this is what you want, give a reply, will let you know the solution.

Hi guys

what about vnc? i think i remember seeing that software on the computers when i was going to school. you would still have to log into every computer but you could do it all without having to leave your computer. vnc shows whatever is on the screen of the computer that it is connected to.

Hi All,

Not sure this is the right spot but here goes. I have my own business, domain name, etc. I use multiple machines - laptop, workstation & handheld (iphone3GS). Is there a way to to have all my email, calender and certain directories of files, etc stay synchronized across the laptop and workstation? Also, it would be nice to have the email and calendar synch'd with the handheld as well. I used MS office 2007 on a win 7 laptop and a Win XP 64 workstation.

I currently have a pop email protocol but I believe I could switch it to IMAP (of which I know nothing) if that could help.

Any help or a link or a search criteria would be much appreciated.

A:Better organized....multiple machines and email

I had more or less the same requirement, and settled on syncing.net as a solution between laptop and workstation; I sync my Nokia smartphone to the workstation using Nokia's own (pretty poor to be honest) software. Syncing.net works well for me
