Compatible?

Q: Compatible?

I am computer illiterate, can run & use general programs but dont understand the technical jargon and have the following system (Belarc Advisor Info):- Intel Celeron 667MHz, 20Gb HDD, 256MB pc133 SDRAM, FDD, 52x32x52 CDRW, Windows 98SE, Broadband ADSL. My question today is: Can I upgrade to Windows XP Home Edn? Can I put in a DVD Burner? Can I put in an AV Capture Card? I would like to transfer Analog Video Camera Tapes to DVD including editing etc. Could someone please advise what extra memory, hard drive space, processor speed i would need? Thanks.

Preferred Solution: Compatible?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Compatible?

Can you upgrade to XP Home?
yes, it will most likely run but will seem pretty slow considering the cpu / amount of ram you have.

Can you install a DVD burner ?
Absolutely, should run just fine with what you have.

Can I put in an AV Capture Card?
Most likely yes, but considering the amount of cpu speed/ram you have, I don't think it will function very well. ( I am not up on video capturing etc..)
any converting of video to DVD require lots of cpu / memory ( the more, the merrier)

I can offer many suggestions of what you should get, but I have no idea what budget you're on.

2.5 Ghz or faster
1 gig memory
80 gig + ( the bigger the better )

good luck

I've decided to try my hand at building my own PC. I intend it to be a medium - high end gaming computer. I've got everything figured out (at least I hope) I'm just wanting a second opinion about my choice of motherboard and CPU. I'm pretty sure they are compatible, at least in theory, I was just wondering if anyone had any first hand experience with them, or any advice for me. Hey, if you feel like it, recommend something bigger and better. I have a pretty good budget for this (within reason of course, nothing too outrageous).

CPU : AMD Phenom X4 9950 Quad Core Processor 2.60GHz, 4MB Cache, 2000MHz (4000 MT/s) FSB, Agena, Retail, Socket AM2+, with Fan (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4016668&CatId=3496)

Motherboard : FX nForce 750a SLI Motherboard - NVIDIA 750a SLI, Socket AM2/AM2+, ATX, Audio, Video, HDMI, DVI, PCI Express 2.0, Gigabit LAN. S/PDIF, USB 2.0, eSATA, RAID (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3930721&CatId=13)

One big question I have, however, is whether a GeForce 8800GT graphics card with its super long design would fit correctly or at all in that motherboard. The 2nd PCI-E slot has to be the first one used, so I couldn't put it in the top slot. I think it would fit, but not quite sure.

Anyways, thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to have a read through this, and an extra thanks to anyone with any advice or comments.

A:Compatible, or not compatible, that is the question.

why can u not use the first slot? the only problem should be with the case. put the mem. in before u put the video card in.

Hi,
Im looking to upgrade my computer and I have this motherboard:
http://www.foxconnchannel.com/product/Motherboards/detail_overview.aspx?ID=en-us0000412

Are either of these processors compatible, and if not, can you suggest one that is for around the same price?

The 2 CPUs are:

Also, will this work with my motherboard?

Looks alright to me, although your motherboard can take faster RAM if you're interested: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/129954
It's only 2 more as well

If you want to OC, get the 5000+ Black Edition. It has a smaller nm process than the 6400+ so it will go faster and run cooler. If you don't want to OC and/or don't have any experience in doing it before, go with a regular 6400+. The only difference in the Black Version is the unlocked multiplier which allows you to make it run faster.

Hello all.
Well, having a dell dimension 3000 is not the best thing in the world, but ive decided to upgrade it as good as i can. i will be buying a new graphics card any time soon, and as im not that pro with anything regarding computers i would like to know if anyone could help me put a list of things that i have to look at when im getting this new card. i know that only PCI slot card will work for me, so i have only a couple of choices. the 6200, the x1550/1350, the 9950, the fx5200/5600 and the 9100 graphics cards seem to be compatible with my computer. now, what i dont know is what else do i have to make sure of before i buy the card? for example does it matter if the clock speed of the card is different from my FBS? (too bad i couldnt find my FBS properties anywhere )
what im asking basically is what i need to know for the card to ultimately WORK on my machine, not what the best card for my machine is.
Any help is great
Regards
Kirill

P.S: also, if anyone wants to just tell me which of the cards listed above they would buy, or their own choice for a PCI slot, i would appreciate that too. ( games i want to play w/ better settings : Il2 Sturmovik 1946, flying sims, HoMM5 on full high (probably), The Guild 2, oblivion( not the best settings of course), and other games of 2000-2006. nothing uber-leet-new super demanding.)

A:Compatible or not?

I can tell you that if you want to get some quality gaming done, you will need a motherboard with a PCI-E slot. It's just impossible to get any decent FPS with your PCI slot limitation. I ran a FX5200 in my Dell 3000. It was a little better but I hate to tell you but you must at least have an agp slot and at this stage of the game you would be shopping for a PCI-E slot. I would also get a larger case to build in because the Dell 3000 is so small and you will need room for your machine to breathe and have a chance at cooling. Don't be bummed. Start shopping and do a lot of studying on each part that you might use. In the end you will be happy instead of frustrated.

Hi All

I'm looking to get some form of network storage that I can use between my PC, Laptop and PS3. I have been looking at Lacie and WD:

http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/128649/rb/0
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/127255

I have heard poor reports about the WD drive though, apparently there's a supscription needed to access the full remote features!

Ideally I would like around 1tb, but 500gig would do for now as long as I can connect additional hard drives (daisy chain) to the NAS box for extra storage/backing up. FTP access would be useful too so I can access my files anywhere.

Have any of you done similar? Can you provide some advice on the best way of doing this?

A:NAS compatible with PS3?

SimpleTech NAS are very stable. WD not a fan of there devices. They just started to sell 1TB units here cheap for $320.

Do you have a router between the PC, laptop and PS3? Not hard to configure the device to the network.

I have a fairly modest AMD athlon 2000+ xp 1.67Ghz, with winXP pro SP2. I have 256MB ram, 80 GB hard drive, DVDRW 8X, Acer LCD Monitor etc etc
Philips Ultimate Edge 5.1 Sound card and currently a very basic Nvidia Riva TNT2 64pro video card.

I intend on upgrading the video card to start with and perhaps get another 256MB ram.

I am looking at a MSI GeForce FX5700U-TD128 (128 MB) AGP Graphic Card. Would this be compatible with my PC? And would all of the above with this card be enough to run PC games such as Fifa and Pro Evolution Soccer? Even slightly older versions of the game?

A:compatible?

I am assuming that you need an AGP graphics card, since you listed an AGP card as one of your choices.
However, we would need your motherboard info to be sure.

If your motherboard uses an AGP slot, then yes, the MSI FX5700 AGP you saw would be compatible.
The only factor of compatibility in choosing a video card is the interface type (PCI, AGP, PCI-Express).

However, I would recommend that you upgrade your RAM to at least 512MB.
But to be honest, 1GB would be the minimum for any desktop system these days.
You won't get much better performance with a new video card if you don't upgrade your RAM, because with 256MB, your system is barely getting by, even just running day-to-day tasks.

For most people with a computer that still uses AGP, I would recommend the mid-range GeForce 7600GT AGP. This is a respectable mid-range card that would play most games on medium settings, but it would undoubtedly be bottlenecked if installed on your system.
It's hard to find a decent AGP card that won't be bottlenecked by your CPU...

If your current board has AMD video, yes it'll work.  If you now have Intel, you'll also need to replace the heatsink assembly (the one for Intel won't fit the AMD and vice-versa) and if you have a 65W power adapter, you'll need 90W or better for the AMD board.

Hi, I just upgraded my computer with a new OCZ 120GB SSD.

However, when I connect all three hard drives on my mobo, SSD does not appear on bios.
If I connect just the SSD, it shows up, and if I connect just HDD, it shows up as well.
However, I cannot find SSD from boot up priority menu if HDD is also connected.
There are only three choices: HDD, DVD Drive, and Floppy disk... which I do not have.
Is there a problem with compatibility? Or did I do anything wrong?
I didnt mess with any RAID or anything (I dont even know how to.)
Please help! Thank you

A:SSD and HDD not compatible?

You have to be sure that your BIOS sees the drives. If BIOS can't see them, Windows won't see them either.

Once that is done, make sure all your cables are securely attached.
That might seem obvious, but i messed with my brother's computer for nearly half an hour before checking the cables.
Doh! The data cable was uselessly dangling in there.
Amazingly, it worked fine once I hooked it up- ha!

Hi there,

If your External hard drive is a USB 2.0 device, you will not see an increase in performance by plugging it into a USB 3.0 socket on your computer. There will not be an advantage to you using a usb 3.0 cable in your USB 2.0 device either. I would use your original cable that came with the external hard drive.
Unfortunately you will be stuck on usb 2.0 speeds as far as I am aware.

Any legitimacy to that idea?

Hello, I currently have a single stick of 2GB RAM in my computer. I googled advice on what to look for to know whats compatible, and found one I like on newegg, however I am alittle lost on my user manual, and am wondering if someone can transfer this to english.

DDR2 533/667/800 SDRAM (240pin/ non-ECC) (for 73U/PV)

DDR2 533/667 SDRAM (240pin/ non-ECC) (for 73V)

2 DDR2 DIMMs (4GB max)

That is what my manual says works for my computer, the RAM I want is compatible with the first one. However it is 800 SDRAM DDR2 and I do not understand if I need to pay attention to that second row? Since it does not have a 800 compatibility, only 533 and 667.

I looked up my model number and all the manufacturer site gave me was:

DDR2 Memory DDR2 533/667/800
DDR3 Memory N/A
Memory Channel Single
DIMM Slots 2
Max Memory (GB) 4

Can anyone let me know if the newegg RAM will work?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231122

A:RAM compatible?

The 533, 667, and 800 are the speeds it supports, 800Mhz being the fastest supported speed. DDR2 is the type, all DDR2 is 240 pin. Non-ECC means its not Error Correcting Code - its used in servers and workstations but not home system to fix memory errors.

If you want to be sure you buy the correct RAM I wold suggest you visit the website of a memory reseller or manufacturer an use their memory selector to choose the right RAM. Example: http://www.crucial.com/

Frys built my system the specs are : MSI x58 platinum SLI Motherboard, Intel core i7 920 2.66 processor, 6GB RAM, nVidia Geforce GTX260, inside an antec nine hundred case.....

how would i know if this http://store.westerndigital.com/store/wdus/en_US/DisplayProductDetailsPage/categoryID.13095100/parid.13092500/catid.13094900 is compatable?

I think i currently have 2 HDDs atm, they told me one was for the OS and the other for everything else. this is all a little over my head.

also, is this what you guys would get for a gaming rig?

A:How would I know if this is compatible

It is compatible, but the ease in setting it up will depend on how Frys setup the existing system. Why don't you just ask them. They should have no problem in telling you what you want to know. They may think you are going to buy the drive at Frys... no need to tell them, unless they ask.

I just got 2 2gb sticks of Balistix Crucial. Can I still fill my last two dimm slots with my old RAM? 2 1gb sticks of OCZ. They are both 800mhz pc6400. The crucial RAM has CL-4-4-4-12. The ocz RAM is 4-5-5. My mobo guide says to use the RAM with the same CAS Latenc. Which number is the CAS Latency? My bios says its the first number, the 4. So far no problems with this setup but ive only had it for an hour or two.

A:Compatible RAM?

You need to check the maximum amount of RAM supported by your motherboard.

And yes, the first number in the timings is the CAS latency.

I want to use CPU from a Toshiba A205 in a Toshiba A105. They're both use Intel Centrino Duo processors.

Are they compatible?
How do you know?

A:Is this CPU compatible? How do you tell?

You will have to try and find out the socket number for the motherboard in it. You can use a program called CPUZ I think which is free to download. I think this is the way to go at this any one back me up?

Hey guys! I'm new here and I'm glad to join the community.

This is my first time building my own PC, I've been trying to get the correct parts and everything and pretty much I'm almost done. The only two things that I was missing were a mother board and a RAM. I got this Motherboard: https://wwws.nextwarehouse.com/item/?1604397
and this RAM: https://wwws.nextwarehouse.com/item/?1364512

Are they compatible?

Please let me know if they are or not so I can re-order something else.

Thank you

So i have a noob question, but im getting quite confused looking at PSU's for my Asus P5Q PRO motherboard.

The manual says it needs a 24 pin main connector and an 8 pin 12v cpu connector.

The pictures on newegg for the PSU's usually just show a picture of the main connector and the cpu power but it just shows a 4 pin, but under "features" it will say either say "1 x 12V(4/8Pin)" or "1 x 12V(P4)" and "1 x 12V(8Pin)" below it.

Do all ATX12V / EPS12V PSUs come with an 8 pin 12v connector or what?

Also when it tells how many rails it has whether it be single or 3 or whatever, what does that mean. I'd like to make sure i get a PSU thats compatable.

Thanks in advance for any help.

A:Compatible PSU / P5Q Pro

This one is selling in a combo deal with your motherboard
Combo deal for reference: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.141834
Power Supply on its own: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182069

Note: normally I don't support reply on what to buy, but just found this on a quick search on your motherboard specs

I'm upgrading my current PC and I want to make sure that everything I chose was the best and also compatible. If anyone has any suggestions on what hardware I should get, please feel free to tell me.

PC Build:

- CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115041

- CPU Fan: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118019

- GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130368

- Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131284

*Note: For the CPU, I know the Extreme is better than the Core 2 Quad but I'm not spending 1K on a processor.
- Also, I'm especially unsure of what motherboard to get that is the best.

Hi -- this is a similiar question to a few minutes ago -- is there a way work with a doc file on the Works program?

A:.wks and .doc compatible?

My mistake ; I ran Works WP, then chose File -- Open -- All Files. In passing I noticed that you can do tables in Works WP, but when I opened the Word doc it all looked pretty shabby. As before, I'd suggest OpenOffice.

Andy
