I Need Help...slow Computer, Freezing Games, On A Fast Computer...(possible Trojan)

Q: I Need Help...slow Computer, Freezing Games, On A Fast Computer...(possible Trojan)

first off, here are my specsAMD Athlon 64 X2 5200M2N-e Asus motherboard2 gigs (1gig x2) Corsair dual channel ramNvidia Geforce 7900 GS 256mb PCI-EWhen I first built my computer and loaded windows, it worked super fast. Now, its slower then my older computer, which I thought was impossible. I mean...This is pathetic. I unistalled AVG cause there was a process running that is supposed to be a Trojan, and a program said AVG was running it. So, I deleted it, was prompted to restart, so I did. It took literally 10 minutes to shut down and restart. At worst, my old computer took 5 minutes. (P4 2.8, 1.5 gigs ram, ATI Radeon 9800). So, how do I fix this? I have a theory its Microsoft forcing people to upgrade by putting out crappy updates. I mean, for my card, the newest driver is dated the beginning of last year...They come out with a new one but its Vista only. Woo...idiots. So basically it started about 3 days ago, aprox. 4 days after this computer was built. I was playing Battlefield 1942, it froze. I tried 5 times, it froze in different spots at different times. I reinstalled. Same thing. Oblivion goes for about 30 minutes then crashes to the desktop. I then hit the window to maximize again, and it freezes. This has happened everytime as well. I also did older games, same thing, but done differently. Battlefield was the only one that froze the entire computer to where i had to manually shut it off. Then today I randomly check my processes, and theres 2 running that I have never seen before. A couple sites say they are trojans. ScanningProcess.exe. The sites said it was W32.Beagle.DZ Trojan. I downloaded and ran alot of antispy and antiviruses...they found nothing. Then I looked into the trojan, and the processes running arent listed. And the ones listed are Trend Micro and Panda software. So..im confused. I have ran, Zonealarm Security Suite 7, Yahoo antispy, AVG free, Adaware, Spybot, spyware doctor and Superantispyware is running now. So far, nothing. So, here I am. Out of Ideas and annoyed. (I also ran defrags, restarted, deleted programs, reinstalled, everything...and im still having problems.)Moderator Edit: Moved topic to more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: I Need Help...slow Computer, Freezing Games, On A Fast Computer...(possible Trojan)

The first thing which strikes me is that you have 2 anti-virus applications on your computer ( Zone Alarm security suite and AVG Free) Having two anti virus applications running on your PC can give conflicts so I suggest you uninstall one.For the antispyware applications do you have all real time protection enabled?..I first would try Microsoft online test and see what comes up. The freezing can also indicate faulty memory, there for run a Memtest to rule that out.

Hi, I posted a thread in "viruses/malwar". After running a check on the computer, they saw nothing malicious, suggested it is a hardware problem and suggested I post something here.
When I restarted my computer the other day, Windows loaded normally, boot time was 45 seconds. However when I clicked on the icon for Google Chrome, nothing happened. I tried others and the same thing. I was sitting there thinking I may have picked up a virus and Google Chrome opened. I discovered that it just took awhile for the programs to open, so I updated and ran SE and MWB, then did a disc cleanup. The computer was fine. The next evening I turned the computer on and the same thing happened. So I repeated the process. Since then the programs are sluggish to open and some of the games I play won't open at all. I have Windows 7 and have only had the computer since Sept/Oct of 2011. I am not great with computers but have cleaned a computer in the past through TechSpot, so I can follow instructions. Any ideas??

A:Computer running slow, freezing, some games not coming up at all

well the first step is making sure you dont have a ton of programs running in the system tray (next to the clock.).
If you could click the windows button, right click computer, click properties, and tell us what is written down in system, it would give us a better idea of the caliber of PC we are talking about here.

Its been freezing up sporadically and stranger still internet explorer has disappeared there was atleast one time alst week where I could not open any files at all things where getting error messages freezing, I rebooted. Ran a virus scan, everything seems fine though at times sluggish and it does freeze as I said. I suspect it is a trojan. I've had to back up a game recently so the downloads may have exposed the computer. But I do know my sister runs limewire. So that may be how it got in. Thanks for your help guys.

Hey guys, I followed the link from my first thread *(http://www.techsupportforum.com/f100...ml#post2496988) and I have the appropriate logs etc.

Basically, my AVG detected a Trojan on my PC, I moved it to the Virus Vault, however it keeps popping up. I cannot find the file in my computer at all.

The 'symptoms' are that my PC is running slowly, and after a while it will just freeze completely making me have to manually turn it off.

Not sure if this is relevant or not, but as I finished the last scan (the GMER one) and saved the log, I got a 'blue screen' error that shut down my computer.

Here are the logs:

Hi. I was recently assisted with another problem on my personal computer, and now my mother is having problems of her own and asked if i could help her. I ran the scans recommended like last time and outlined in the tutorial. they claim to have found some malware/trojans but either claim to have eliminated them and failed or didn't catch them all. The computer is very slow to open any application, when she tries to type the letters are behind her keystrokes, sometimes up to a whole word. When you click an email it takes ages to open up. First off, whomever you are thank you for the help. My computer is running badly. I have AVAST Anti-virus installed and I ran an AdAware and Spybot scan. My computer will not always allow page to be connected to thi internet via Firefox or IE, not allow saves, or completely freeze up, I am waaayyy behind on Microsoft update (I only just installed SP1 yesterday) and I will fully update once this is fixed as well as install a proper firewall. I am on a dial-up modem, so I could not run an internet scan. Several days ago my Word and JPG files disappeared. I knew something was up so I began to search for processes in Windows Task Manager and using google.com I found several virus's, found that the Internet was slow and other virus's were being installed. When I ran CWShredder one CWS was removed. I am currently running McAffee Stinger (it did find a Trojan Virus and ignorantly I closed it in joy without noting the exact virus, sorry), and I'm going to try a program called PREVX1 to solve more problems. In using the Windows Task Mangaer I stop a program called netbtd.exe and I cannot stop Msnweb.exe and it will temporarily allow the Internet to be accessed. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

Scott Strickler

Hello Scott and welcome,

I see that you have msconfig enabled. This may prevent us from seeing everything on your system. Please go to Start>Run type msconfig press Enter and enable all startups by selecting Normal Startup - Load all Device Drivers and Services, reboot and post a new log. We can't remove what we can't see.

If you're going to run PREVX1, wait until you complete that, then run a new scan with HijackThis and post the log here. If you can, save the log from PREVX and post that here as well.

Greetings,
Ive got a problem with my internet connection over a small network,
Ive got ntl cable broad band, which runs into a Draytech vigor broadband security router, hub thing. There is one other computer on the network which when on the net, flies, however the other machine is painfully slow.

I suspect it is something to do with my connection settings, perhaps it thinks it has 56k connection, but how do I configure or test my connection settings to go quickly?

The last time I used this machine on the net it was in a different country,
on a 56k modem and using dial up. Any thoughts?

I have a fast computer, yet, for some reason, with nearly nothing running, it bogs down to a crawl so windows don't even respond. I wait, and it's fine again for another 10 minutes, an hour, who knows. Then dead slow again.

It's driving me crazy, and I have no idea what to do to attempt fixing it.

I don't see anything in process explorer that could be the culprit.

Thoughts? Are there tools for scanning I should run?

I have a HP Pavillion dv9417ca Notebook PC with AMD Turion 64X2 Mobile Technology Tl-56, 2.0G Ram, NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 with Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP2.

The computer when running slowly makes a ton of noise starting up and running and tends to use more processing. The computer sometimes makes weird noises that aren't normal windows sounds and come from error's. Like intense beeping noises ocassionally. Firefox especially is insanely slow and the longer I run it the more processing power it uses up along with the plugins.exe. Sometimes it will uses so much that it completely freezes my computer. Lately I've also been having trouble starting the computer where it won't even load windows.

I've ran Ccleaner daily and Malwarebytes weekly and find nothing and the problem has been getting progressively worse. I have Avast which updates daily.

My laptop runs fast sometimes, and sometimes slow. When it runs fast, the internet automatically configures in the beginning of the startup and everything is smooth. When it is slow, it takes a while for everything to configure during start up. I do not think I have any malware, I have scanned and nothing was found. I have tried to do a defrag, but i only had 4% space available while it needs at least 15%, and it didn't free much space up when i defraged. I have used programs to manage the start up, I honestly just don't know what the problem is...
Any help would be wonderful!

A:Fast/Slow Computer

Part of the problem can be the lack of swap space on the hdd. There are two suggestions that I can make, the first would be to purchase a second hdd and transfer enough of your files to regain adequate free space. The other is to transfer files to removable madia, CD, DVD, flash drive... for the same reason. You should have your important files backed up in this manner anyway.Edit: Please use the following link to provide us with information about your computer so that we can assist you.How to Publish a Snapshot using Speccy The below is for those who cannot get online with the computer Speccy was run on.Please take caution when attaching a text file to your post if you cannot copy/paste the link to your post, you will need to edit it to make sure that your Windows Key is not present.

I have a Dell optiplex, that I have redone the operating sys in. I run win xp. In the process of putting all my programs back on, I added a new recording prog.. I dont think that changed anything, but now my camera barely records without stopping, fine for a min then just almost freezes. Ive run virus check, defrag, Task manager, and nothing. Comp. is slow now. I know its fast, it was before. The camera is slow and the playback on tracks while im trying to record within my other program is slow and cuts out as well. Its almost like the sound slows it down.
Please help me get my computer back the way it was, and know it can be. Thanx.

Chris.

A:fast computer now slow.

Please post your full computer specs.

Also I would find out what brand your harddrive is and go to the manufacture website to download a diagnostic program to make sure its not on its way out. Since you apparently already reinstalled windows (Recently?) and you say its still slow I would check for a possible hardware issue.

I recently sent my computer back to the factory for a problem with it randomly turning off while playing games. They replaced the video card and maybe the motherboard and reformatted the computer and sent it back. Ever since, it has been really choppy. The choppiness is barely noticeable when you're just sitting there (in the game), but once you start running around and monsters start popping out at you, it gets really bad, and I know it shouldn't because my computer before I sent it in, ran the games perfectly.

My Computer:
Windows XP Home
Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz
1GB RAM
ATI Radeon 9550 128MB DDR

Some games:
Warcraft III
Grand Theft Auto III San Andreas
F.E.A.R.

I've already updated all my drivers, downloaded the newer versions of the games, and made sure not too many things are running in the background. Is there a solution short of reformatting my computer?

Several days ago my new computer with Win8 started behaving slowly and sometimes freezes. While using the internet (I have Firefox) and another program it sometimes becomes unresponsive and I can not move my mouse or press any buttons. Then I have to manually pull the plug and take out the battery and then restart the computer again and it becomes normal. I never had this problem before though. That is the only problem. I scanned the entire system with McAfee and Stinger McAfee product but both scans turned out clean. I also installed updates. I wonder maybe McAfee is missing something that another program might detect.

Also several months ago two viruses were found on my computer, both of which were taken care of by McAfee. Maybe they were only partially destroyed?

I have a Powerspec with a cable modem and Windows XP. A couple of weeks ago, after 6 months of no problems, my computer started operating excruciatingly slow. It would take forever to load up pages, would force me to left click on pages several times before they would even begin to load up, etc. I ran virus scans and spyware and didn't pick up anything. Still the slow computer remained. I finally tried System Restore, as I just wanted my fast connection back. Same thing. Finally, after a few days, I totally lost connection to the internet and was getting the generic 169 (I think?) IP address when I checked to see what it was sending to the modem. I took my computer in to where I purchased it, and they had no problems surfing the web. I had contacted the cable company that I got the modem from and they did not see any problems with the modem from their end. However, I convinced them that I wanted to try a new one and picked one up from their offices the next day.

Sure enough, the internet was fantastic with this new modem. Fast, no problems, etc. Now, however, after a couple of weeks, the same problem has crept up. Surfing the internet has become an excruciating process. I check the task manager, but it does not appear that any processes are running behind the scenes (although thats what it seems like is happening). I disabled all anti-virus. I again checked for spyware and adware and came up clean.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I run a long 15 foot piece of cable... Read more

A:Fast Modem. Slow Computer?

This one is a real poser - that's for sure!

Replacing the cable is one option - but I just can't see a piece of cable causing problems like this.

It seems to me that this is a problem with your networking protocols - so you might want to try deleting the current connection and creating a new one from scratch (using the Wizard).

I just put together a new computer. Amd am2 6400. dual core 3.2 ghz WD Raptor 150 4 gig ram. Windows xp . It takes over a minute to boot up. Usually with a system like this I can get boot times of 45 secs or less. It was booting faster. I did a bios update and it seemed to slow down. I backed the update down one level and it helped a bit but still slow. I was having problems with the windows hardware driver for the onboard lan. Found a better driver from the motherboard site and that took care of the lan. The board is a Asus m3a78-emh hdmi. The memory is kingston ddr2 pc6400. Clean install of windows xp. There is not a lot of programs on it. There is 31 processes running. This computer has onboard video but it is using a power color Radeon X800 gto 16 pci express video card. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I don't know if this belongs here or not.

Ok I posted her a few weeks ago about my father's computer having a virus called a "Downloader" but no one helped me. So I tried and clear things up myself by surfing the web. I thought I cleared up everything but bam now it seems like a virus has come back into the picture now.

My father has a desktop HP Pavilian XT963 with an Intel Celeron 1200 MHZ, 128 RAM memory, and the OS is Windows XP SP2. I start the computer and it takes about 10-12 minutes to start up and get all the programs up. That happens and we just wait. I was backing up some cds onto the harddrive (It's a 32 GB harddrive and has 23gbs free currently). I am doing this on iTunes and I get a message saying "no available memory can't save this". This has happened on three occassions. Is it a virus issue or memory issue? I don't know. I am beyond confused and frustrated. So any help will be greatly appreciated.

In general, what makes a computer slow? Considering its not any form of malware or having too many stuff installed.
By slow I mean, e.g., when youre playing a game and it takes a long time to switch to another window.

When I hear about it, RAM and processor are the first things that come to my mind, just from what I can remember people saying (I think?), but what could also be the reason for this? What needs to be upgraded to improve that? And can it improve when you upgrade only one of the components, or would you need to upgrade more than just one (could one of them be stopping the other one)?

Yes, it may be a total newbie question... Im a total newbie, upgrading my computer for the first time and I would like to understand how it works, at least a bit of it.

I just got a new computer, and it's insanely slow loading websites. Sometimes it does not load them at all, and gives me the button I can click on to diagnose connection problems. However, it doesn't find anything when I click the button.

Anyways, I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium, and I'm on a desktop connecting to a wireless network with a usb card for PCs. I double-checked before buying it to make sure it was compatible with windows 7....And it seems to be working just fine.

Anyways, when I right-click the connection and click on Status, and then hit the Diagnose button, I get different messages almost every time.

Here's what I get sometimes:

Problems found: The default gateway is not available. Fixed.

Other times, I get:

Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem.

But most of the time, I get:

Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

I'm using a 802.11 USB Wireless LAN Card (manufacturer: Ralink Tech.), and I installed the update for it that was recommended in Windows Updates (and my Windows is up-to-date).

Here are the model numbers I found on the devices that connect me to the wireless network (I know nothing about computers, so sorry, I don't know what they are called): Motorola SURFboard model SB5100 and Linksys WRT54GS.

Let me know if you need any more info, and any help would be very much appreciated .

From the moment I press the button until my windows xp pro is fully loaded and ready, it took my computer one minute and 52 seconds, is that fast or slow?

A:Is My Computer Starting Fast Or Slow?

It depends on what is starting up along with Windows. If you want a bunch of programs starting, then it is going to take a while. But if you are asking how to start your computer faster, then we can investigate a few things, such as what programs are starting, as well as your system stats to see if they can be improved. Another thing that can slow down a computer is a virus or other malware infection (but this is sort of related to what I said first regarding programs starting, just that it is possible that some are malicious and unwanted).

Do you care to investigate further?

Hey! I'm new to the forums here and I've been looking around for an answer as to why my computer, which should be running nice and fast, is just so lagging and slow, but I can't seem to find a specific answer. I just purchased a Dell Optiplex 320 with a Pentium D 925 3.00 GHz Dual Core. I upgraded the 1gb ram to 4gb just recently. Also I figured I'd upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate (x64) because the computer came with Windows XP Pro (x32). As I've stated, even with the dual core and 4gb of ram, the computer is so laggy and takes forever to load programs, start Windows, and it had slow responsiveness to mouse clicks/scrolls. I would figure with the specs it should run Win 7 64-bit nicely. Even before I upgraded to Win 7, Xp Pro ran very slow also when I first got the computer. I have another computer with Win 7 Ult and its got an Athlon II X2 215 Dual Core 2.75 GHz w/ 1.5gb ram and it runs programs and Windows almost instantly compared to my new computer and it runs much more smooth. Just as a note, came with a 160gb SATA HDD and I added another 200gb SATA HDD.Here is the HijackThis log file: Running processes:C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\DAEMON Tools Pro\DTShellHlp.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\VSO\ConvertX\4\ConvertXtoDvd.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\VSO\ConvertX&#... I even got so frustrated that i took it to the pc store i bought it from to see if they could figure it out, and they said it was a virus program, so they removed that and it played fine untill i tried to go online and play, then if froze like it normally does, I called them back and they said it could be the wireless lan i am connected through.. but that didn't make much sence to me! If anyone can help with this problem please do...Thanks. Oh i forgot my ps is 350 w

Have you tried changing the buffer size in the CMOS mode. You may want to crank it up to 32mbif it isnt already there.

Ok here's the problem, when I played high graphics games, my computer freezes every few seconds after a while. At the start it runs FLAWLESSLY as it should and then it will start freezing every ten seconds or so and becomes very VERY annoying to the point where it is impossible to enjoy the game. Which lower graphics games it's just fine.

Here's what I've done so far:

Replaced computer fan.
Using external power source.
Updated all drivers.
Cleaned up computer, registry, spyware, removed old files and junk etc.

Please help, these high graphics games should work fine but this freezing is getting very annoying. I specifically got a higher-end graphics card replaced on this Compaq so I could play the games.

Here are my specs (tell me if you need more)

Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium (6.0 Build 6001)
SP1
System Type: 32 bit
System Manufacturer: Compaq-Presario
Model: SR5045AN
BIOS: Phoenix AwardBIOS v6.00PG
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64x2 Dual Core Processor 6000+, ~3GHz
Memory: 3582MB RAM
Page file: 958MB used, 6415MB available
DirectX Version: DirectX 10

Graphics Card: NVIDA GeForce 9500 GT

Please tell me what the problem could be which is causing the freezing in high-end graphics games.

Hey guys, so I recently built my first computer and am having issues with freezing. I've tried running some diagnostics on my computer and whenever I do a stress test it will freeze before the test can finish. My build is...

CPU: AMD 8350
GPU: MSI GTX 1060 gaming x
MoBo: Asus M5A78L-M Plus
8 gigs of RAM
PSU: Corsair TX750M

I feel like I should mention too that I did have trouble when first setting it up and installed Windows 10 Pro when I bought Windows 10 Home and reloaded the OS several times when trying to fix it. I've checked the Ram already and didn't find any errors. As well as the PSU which is outputting fine. I've also tried reapplying the thermal paste to the heat sink to see if heating was the issue but I never generally see it hit about 47 degrees when I'm watching but during the stress test it was around 53 degrees that it froze.

The game it has been freezing on is Overwatch.

is the RAM you are using on the QVL list of supported RAM for the motherboard? You can check this on the website of the motherboard under the "Support" section.

Hi, I just started having problems where when I play a video game it freezes on me, and won't let me do anything forcing me to manual shutdown through the tower button. I looked up reasons on why this may happen, I see overheating sometimes is a problem, and it doesn't seem to be overheating, sometimes it continues to play but just freezes again. I also read somewhere sometimes it's something to do with the sound or something being off? I'm not sure what it is, and what it's doing. I'd just like some feedback on what to check and do to try and solve this problem.

I own a PIII 667Mhz with 256MBs of RAM (the RAM is running at 133Mhz and so is the processer however the RAMs 133 bus speed cannot be used on my motherboard). I have a Elsa ERAZOR X GeForce video card and a Sound Blaster PCI 128 sound card. All of that is plugged into an Asus P3C2000. I'm running Windows 98 on it. I use a MS Sidewinder Joystick. Lastly I have an Iomega ZIP 100MB external drive.

The computer has been acting up during games. I'll start up a game (ie. Rogue Spear or Midtown Maddness) and go through the menus. The acual game (level) will load up and the computer will eventually freeze. The freeze usually occurs at the begining, but other times I will play for a while and then it will freeze. Due to the intermittent nature of the freezing it is hard to tell exacty what the problem is. The only time it does NOT happen is when I'm just using non-gaming apps (ie. Word or Internet Explorer). This leads me to believe that it has something to do with hardware/software that is only used during the game (ie. directx or sound card). However I am not sure that it has to do with that either so any suggestions would help.

So far I've tried to play with as many window settings as I can find. I've installed Windows over top of itself (which seemed to fix the problem but it reared its ugly head again today). I have the newest drivers for my video card, my sound card and my joystick. Although I've tried these things I'd gladly try these ideas ... Read more

Have you tried updating/reinstalling the directx drivers? What about updating the video driver and sound card driver?

A:Freezing Computer when on some games

What specific graphics card do you have and which driver is installed? Do you have the correct DirectX version for your games? What brand and wattage is your power supply? What games are causing trouble? Is anything in particular happening during the games when they freeze, like loading scenes, playing cutscenes, heavy action, explosions or whatever. Does your system even meet the minimum requirements for these games. If so, have these games run okay before and now they aren't?

BTW, instead of restarting the whole PC, aren't you able to use the Task Manager to exit the games?

Good morning,
About every 5 or 6 days my computer will be crippling slow until I restart it, and then it will be fine again. It doesn't appear to start fast and slowly get slower, it just happens. I also use Windows Media Center a lot and that always is slow when I first start it, but then it gets better after it's been running for a few minutes. I have Avast! Antivirus and Malwarebytes for spyware and antivirus. Windows update and my antivirus and spyware programs are up to date. I have also noticed that svchost and CAPTUR~3.EXE take up a large amount of memory. svchost @ 93,000 K with many more ranging from 20,000 K to 3,000 K, and CAPTURE~3.EXE @ 103,000 K. I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64. While reading other threads I realized that it's not good practice to use MSConfig and disable startup programs that way, and that's how I managed everything at startup.

To help figure out if there was something wrong I downloaded HijackThis. Below is the log file from the scan, and attached is a screenshot of Windows Task Manager. Any ideas?
