Outlook Generates Multiple Emails When Attachments Present

Q: Outlook Generates Multiple Emails When Attachments Present

Pretty sure I have a virus or had a virus that has created the situation, however I have run scan after scan with little to no luck. When I attach a file to an email and route, Outlook appears to go into a email loop sending multiple emails to each individual in the routing list. The attachment is then taken into the body of the email as a mass series of alpha and numeric characters. Tried changing from HTML settings but system continues to generate the same results. Using Outlook 2000 running on Windows XP Professional. All help is appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have read through other threads seen on this topic - still no joy.
If I send an email with attachment around 1MB or larger Outlook continues to send multiple copies until I physically remove from outbox. It sent 99 copies of the email to one recipient and only ceased because the administrator at my friend's work blocked me. Today I removed that version of 2007 Office and reloaded a different copy (MS Office Enterprise 2007). Problem still exists. I am at wits end...and losing friends quickly...well not quite.
Any assistance greatly appreciated.

I have a client that has Windows 2000 pro machine. When using Outlook Express they send an email with an attachment. it will send anywhere from 13 to 41 emails. The emails are the same but the attachments extension has an extra extension added. An example sample.doc email sends sample.doc.dat All the emails that I have seen the dat extension was added. I thought this was a virus and scanned but found nothing.Does not appear to be Spyware or adware problem. This has been happening for about two weeks. It doesn't do this to every email with an attachment but almost always. I reran internet explorer setup files. to reinstalled Internet Explorer and Outlook Express and that failed to help.Need more info just ask. A big thanks for any help you can give.

A:Outlook express sends multiple emails with attachments and adds an extra extension???

Under Tools - Accounts - [select your account] - Properties - Advanced - Uncheck "break apart messages larger than..." and all should come right.

It is splitting the attachments into bite size pieces. Multiple emails with each bite result.

I use OE 6 on my desktop running XP pro, but use Outlook 2007 on my laptop running XP home. I cannot receive attachments sent from my Outlook 2007 to my OE 6 when I send it to myself. They are stripped off, not even showing an attachment. The attachment comes through to other recipients as far as I know, INCLUDING my alternate email address (through at&t). So OE 6 receives the attachment when I send it from my default email account to my at&t account, but not when I send it to from and to my default account. I have checked with my email provider, who has checked the server (IMAP) and they do not see any problem--the attachment is on the server. I have already unchecked all potential blocks under the Security Tab--image blocking and attachment blocking--and am operating in the Internet Zone. And, as far as I know, I am receiving attachments from everyone else in the world. I know there are ways to work around this problem, but it is irritating and I have concerns that my email attachments to clients may be unknowingly blocked. Also, I cannot receive those attachments on my Blackberry either.

Outlook Express 2003 - will not send emails with attachments (specifically Word or Excel documents, it seems that pdf's, jpeg will go)
Operating on XP - fully updated.
Emails without attachments go when at the head of the queue - no problem
Any email with an attachment at the top of the queue just sits there trying to send.
I cannot delete it, I cannot force delete it (Shift - DEL) I cannot drag it anywhere.
However if I exit Outlook and go back in I still cannot delete it but I can move it (to Deleted items) this is before it tries to do a send/receive.
I have done repair on Office 2003 installation and reinstalled Outlook 2003.
I have set up a replacement email account and a new account - problem still persists.
I have gone in as a different user on the machine - problem persists.
Antivirus detects no problems.

I am out of ideas - any help / suggestions most welcome.

One of the email addresses at work receives loads of images as attachments in emails. This means that the .pst file grows rapidly.

Looking through this Website I have seen several programs that will intergrate with outlook, remove the attachments from the email and place these in a local folder and place a link to the attachment into the email.

Can anyone recommend one of these (or from anywhere else) for the job. The only think we would like it to be able to do is not touch the emails as they come into the inbox, but work on them when we have moved them to a backup outlook folder.

Click on the tools menu go to options. There should be an option to change the security options. Try changing it to Internet Zone instead of Restricted Zone. There should also be an option that prevents you from opening e-mail attachments try removing the option and see if that helps

Upgraded both our Desktop & Laptop to Windows 10 in the past few months.
Last week I tried to access some Outlook emails that were more than two years old, the attachments & emoticons do not appear. This is on both PC's & the same result using Edge, IE or Chrome.

I installed Windows Live Mail & now I can see all the attachments & emoticons. Forwarded some of the emails from Live Mail to myself & now in Outlook the attachments/emoticons all appear as well (all three browser Edge, IE & Chrome). So say for instance I have a 2 & 1/2 year old email in a Outlook folder that will not display attachments/emoticons but the very same email just forwarded from Live Mail to my Outlook inbox now displays all attachments & emoticons

Tried inspecting elements but really have no idea what I'm doing. See msgs regarding HTML, Java Script in Edge? Don't have either Java or Silverlight installed, guess the newer browsers are moving towards HTML.

So can anyone help me to understand what is happening?

Thank you as always

A:attachments for old emails don't show up in outlook

When I inspect element on these pictures & emoticons it looks to me as if they are associated img file type.
According to the Default File Type Associations - Restore in Windows 10 Tutorial I see img file type has a description of CD or DVD image file no Default App.

So grasping at straws here am wondering if I point the .reg for img to Microsoft Edge as the html file types are - might that possibly open the pictures inside Outlook? How would I point img file type to Microsoft Edge?
In fact when I browse Choose Default Apps by File Type in Settings I cannot find .img? Goes right from .imesx to .inc. Should there be .img there?

Not very good with registry, sorry.

thank you

Hi all - I'm hoping someone can help me with a problem that has suddenly occurred.
I use Outlook Express 6 with Windows XP Pro 2002, and have had no problems for about 2 years.

Recently, my email started acting up. I can still receive all emails, and send regular emails, but when I try to send an email with an attachment, like a picture, Outlook attempts to send it in about 68 parts. None of the 68 emails received worked, and the attachments come up as name.jpg.dat. My McAfee VirusScan would pop up, trying to stop all the emails, and say that I may have a worm, because of the multiple emails being sent.

I did an internet search of this problem, and found a forum which discussed this as a bug with the McAfee software, which was causing the email to be sent in multiples.
There was no perfect fix for the problem, except to completely uninstall McAfee VirusScan from your computer.

I have now completely uninstalled McAfee (I will be getting Norton). But the problem remains.
Either the solution (uninstalling McAfee) didn't work, or I have a completely different problem. The only other possibility I found was a mention of an after effect of the Happy virus, preventing users from sending emails with attachments, but it said nothing about sending multiple emails.

Anyone have any idea???

When some of our users print off a HTML email in outlook 2003 it doesn't print the header to the email or any of the attachments. As the header contains all the information about when the emails was sent this is really important when printing the email off to put with the contract.

I work for a small non-profit and use ebase/Filemaker to send emails to a list of members who have signed up for our email newsletter. I recently installed the (old) service packs and now it prompts me - as a security feature to prevent a program from sending emails without my knowledge - before sending each individual email. I find that I have to send them individually rather than as one large batch because my ISP blocks out emails with too many addresses.

Is there a way to shut off this feature for the short period of time periodically when I need to send emails to our members?

How do you view or choose another email address in Outlook Express. My husbands email automatically comes up when Outlook Express is launched. What do I do in order to view my emails from my email address from the program?

Thank you.

A:Multiple emails for Outlook Express???

Hi btech..

simplest way to solve the problem would be to create Identities in Outlook Express - one for yourself and one for your husband. Upon launching the program, you will be required to log onto your profile and your emails will be displayed. However, you will need to make sure the option to 'send and receive messages at start up' is selected in order for your new mail to be downloaded when you log on. To check this:

- Open Outlook Express
- Click Tools, then Options
- Under the General tab, ensure there is a tick in the box titled 'send and receive messages at start up'
- Click Apply then OK to save your settings

To create Identities in Outlook Express:

- Open OE
- Click File, then Identities then Add New Identity
- Follow the prompts till the end of the wizard

However, the extra Identity will only help if you and your husband share the same Windows XP profile, if you both have your own, there's no point in having your own OE identity....hope that makes sense :-)

A:Multiple Emails In Outlook 2003

I think you'll find that you will each have to set up 'Outlook' in your own profiles...
If i open 'Outlook' in another family members profile, none of my email address's are there.
If you set the incoming and outgoing servers for each family member, in their own profile... they'll be able to send and recieve thier own emails from their own account.
As the email address's are with the same provider.... the pop and smtp settings will be the same for everyone.. just the login name and email address will be different.
Does this help?

Hello Everyone,

I'm having an issue with duplicate, triplicate ..etc emails, which are re-appearing each time Outlook receives email (15 min intervals) so each 15 mins I get 2-3 emails each, of the same emails which I have received previously. One of them is dated a month back, another appears as new but the initially I have received it 3 month ago. And the 3rd one is still reappearing.
All of the email are from the known senders. I even went as far as deleting all of the originals; Have downloaded the latest security patch... still the issue is at hand.

At one point I thought I fixed it, - one email has stopped to reappear, instead, two new emails began to "breed"…

I don't know what’s regenerating them?!

Any idea on how I can get rid of this inbox multiplication>?

I am having difficulty figuring out why my outlook will not successfully allow me to add an additional pop3 email address. I went thru the steps of adding an email and it only lets me "finish" the process if I select: 'Manually configure server settings or additional server types' (if I dont select that, then it goes thru the motions of configuring and it never works so then it will end up suggesting I select 'manually configure...')...ok, thats fine, so even when I do that and it gets to the end of the prompts and says 'finished' I still cannot use that email address. I will go to 'Tools, Send/Receive' and select the new email address, a pop-up will appear that will ask for the password for the email account. so I input it and select 'ok'. a few moments pass and the pop-up shows up again and has the password in ****'s showing and asks again for the password. so i do it again. and this process keeps repeating until I get tired of it and cancel it.

Maybe everyone got pieces and not the whole email because they said they could not open them. Hope someone can help as this is driving me crazy.

I am receiving thousands of bounced email messages. At first I thought this was due to my address being 'spoofed' but the bounces are from people already known to me. The strange thing is that they are only from a small group of people who were all copied in a message that was sent to me from another user yesterday. These people are now receiving literally hundreds of copies of the same message as a foward 'FW'. Some are making it through and I have had reports of people receiving over 200 forwards of the same message. Others are bouncing and I'm getting the bounce or delay send message. This problem is that bad that I have had 12,000 messages in my in box twice today!

My virus protection is CA 2007 and fully updated. I am running Office 2003 with XP Pro.

Try renaming your Sent Items file. When OE restarts, it will recreate a new empty sent items file. My guess is that the sent items file is over 2GB in size. OE doesnt like that !!
The easiest way is to use the search facility in windows and make sure you search hidden files and folders. Search for "sent items". Once you find the correct one (Check the dates), rename it within the search program. That way, you have a backup copy of old sent items. (If you dont want a backup copy, just delete it). Problem should be fixed and you can use a program like DBXtract to get to the old data if needed.
NOTE for future: Must clean out old files regularly from the sent items folder (Actually, all folders!) before it gets this big again !!

I have Outlook 2003 on my computer here at work and I have a somewhat strange request. What I'm trying to do is take multiple emails from various senders and dates and combine them into one to send to a supervisor so she can look them all over at once. Does Outlook 2003 offer any feature like this or is my only hope to download them all and send them as an attachment?

A:Solved: Combining Multiple Emails in Outlook 2003

This is for Outlook 07 but 2003 should be very similar. Open a new message and instead of using the "attach file" optio, use the one called "attach item". You will have to add each e-mail message individually, but it shouldn't prove too much of an issue.

A:Outlook sending multiple copies of large emails

Did the emails actually come from your system? You'll have to go through the headers to determine the actual source.
Or do they just have your email address in the From and/or Reply to fields? Not much you can do in this case, except file a complaint with the ISP the email was sent from.

I have over 200 emails I need to print in Outlook, however, when I select all, it gives me this error:

"One or more of the items you tried to print does not support printing and did not print."

I can print each on individually from the same preview pane, but I have a
task at hand where I need to print some 200 messages. I even narrowed it down by attempting to take 5-6 at a time to see if there is an isolated error, but it still gives me the error message on many different variations I try when selecting multiples. Again, I can print each individually, but not by selecting all at one time.

Any Ideas??!!?? Please Help!
