I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I use to have a d-link router. It burnt up so I bought a Netgear. It was simple to install. All my computer, IPad etc connected to the internet, but my lap top that has vista will not. It found the wifi and conneced to it, but when I go to log on the internet it tell me that there is NO network and will not connect. So how do I get it to connect.

A:WiFi not connecting to internet

If it says that it's connected, then it probably already is. There may be something wrong with your laptop. Have you tried connecting your vista laptop to the router using a cable? Have you tried pinging websites?

I use Windows XP on both my desktop and my laptop. I recently installed a DSL broadband internet connection on my desktop and have connected my desktop to the DSL modem via a Linksys Wireless Router. The internet on the desktop works perfectly.

I am having trouble accessing the internet after my laptop logs into the wireless network that I have set up (it shows the signal strength as excellent).

I am able to ping the router but not the internet. I wonder if there are any settings in Windows that I need to switch on to be able to access the internet. I will be grateful for any help on this matter.

Thank you!

I am using a D-link DSL-G604T wireless ADSL2+ modem/router for my internet connection, and just a cheap network adapter i bought from ebay. I have installed the network adapter and it is detecting a connection with the router, the only problem i have is that i cant figure out how to connect to the internet.
Before i got the network adapter and the router/modem, i was using a D-link DSL-502T to connect to the internet which worked fine.
My question is; how do i connect to the net threw my wireless router/modem?

Also, one other question, when i try connectiong threw ethernet my comp locks up and i have to switch it of at the switch, this happens every time i plug the ethernet lead in, anyone know why?

A:Connecting to the internet threw wifi

Most modem/router combos work out of the box. I would recommend resetting the device (check with the manual to see how/google) and starting over. It if is locking up your computer it could be a number of things; probably an issue with your computer. Also, can you get it to work with any other computers?

I recently bought a new laptop with built-in WiFi. This laptop is used about 99% of the time at a remote location so the only available internet connection (without going to satellite) is through dial-up. Is there some kind of WiFi product I can connect to the standard phone line, then use the laptop's built-in WiFi to connect to the internet. I realize I would be limited to the extremely slow dial-up connection but at least I wouldn't have to connect the phone wire to the laptop. Thanks for any suggestions.

PLEASE HELP! I'm at my wits end with all this...

I have an HP Pavillion dv6 w/ith Windows 7. My internet was working this morning, my laptop died, recharged it and turned it back on, and internet was not working anymore. WiFi and connection through Ethernet was not working. It's not my router/modem since I can connect to the internet (WiFi and Ethernet) with my phone and another laptop. I did a power cycle anyways, but nothing. I also tried connecting to another WiFi that is within my range and same result (I can usually connect to it as my back up and can with other devices as well). I am getting a "Limited access" with everything I do.

I ran troubleshooter and it said that that "There might be a problem with the driver for the Wireless Network Connection adapter." My network adapters are Ralink RT5390 802.11b/g WiFi adapter and Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller for Local Area Connection. Neither of them have a yellow triangle with a "!". I even updated these drivers with the latest versions from the manufacturer websites. Nothing. Restarted my computer. Nothing. Enabled/disabled the connection. Nothing. I then uninstalled each driver, restarted my computer, let them re-install, and still nothing.

Hey guys, need your help. I own a Compaq Presario CQ62-230E1. Am using windows 7 4bit .Last September the motherboard crashed and I had to take it to be replaced. When it was repaired, I took went and collected it. At first I noticed that when I connected the Ethernet cable to the laptop there was no internet connection. Whenever I ran diagnostics it told me same issue, local are network doesn?t have a valid ip configuration. I tried connecting via wifi and it was working properly the only problem was that the modem had to be close to the laptop, like literally a few centimeters away. Recently as of one week ago it totally stopped picking up wifi from the ISP modem no matter how close it is returning the error wireless access; problem with adapter. The irony is when I try to connect the laptop to the internet via my phone whether it is tethering or hotspot it connects to the internet. My friend who is a computer expert thought it was a software issue but we downloaded and installed all the necessary drivers. We even went as far as to format local disk C just to be sure and ensure all the junk is chucked. He guesses that the problem is hardware suggesting that when they replaced the motherboard they must have interfered with the wifi /Ethernet boad. Any help will be highly appreciated. Alvaro

Hi,
I have a Dell XPS 13" for the last year and a half.
I changed the password for my router after which my Dell XPS is not able to connect to the internet. The laptop does connect to the router (status states - Secured, Connected) however it does not connect to the internet.
I can connect to the internet via the same router on multiple devices (ipad, iphone, android phone, macs and another Lenovo Windows machine)
I am bamboozled as to why this Dell XPS is not able to connect.
Checking the properties of the device (via the Device Manager) says the Device is working properly. The network adapter is a Dell Wireless 1820A.802.11ac.
I tried to uninstall and re-install the driver and still don't see a difference.
Appreciate any assistance.
The Dell website (for Drivers and downloads is also friendly). I can't easily check what the latest driver is.
Searching for wireless for my Dell XPS
returns only one result  and the installation of that is not successful either.

A:Wifi connecting to my router however it does not connect to the internet

When you stated you changed the password on the Router, I thought you meant the one for the Admin of the Router.  I suppose you mean the WPA2 security password for the network..
I assume you have looked at the available networks and picked the one you use and check it properties for Public/Private and security settings?
If the wireless icon is showing a yellow triangle it may be related to DNS.  You might check the IP Settings on the above reference page to make sure you have correct IP addresses listed.

Hi. I'm using a Gateway NV54 laptop and the wifi isn't connecting to the home network or internet. The wifi worked before the install, but not after. I have another laptop and the wifi works fine for it.

Recently did a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, 64-bit. Installed all drivers. Current wireless driver is Intel Wireless LAN Driver (since the laptop uses Intel Pentium processor).

When I click my home network in the list of connections it asks for the security key. I put in the key and immediately it says "windows was unable to connect to this network." Tried this multiple times. I can connect with ethernet but not wireless.

Tried pressing Xfinity router wireless button to pick up the laptop but it didn't work. Tried logging into Xfinity router from the other computer and manually put the laptop's computer name and mac address into router, restarted router, still can't connect.

Any ideas? Thanks.

hello,

i am having a problem with a new netgear AC1200 WIFI router Model R6120 and was hoping to get some help. I had a Linksys cicso WRT110 router that went bad last week. I went to Wal-Mart and bought the netgear AC1200. I hooked it up to a dell e6400 latitude running windows 7 pro and I cannot get it to connect to the internet using a DSL modem.

I can see the router when you click on the icon in the lower right corner that displays the wireless connections. I opened the network and sharing center and selected the "set up a new connection or network" and set up a home connection. I am not sure if I did this correctly.
when you open a IE browser to connect to the internet, the netgear routerlogin screen displays. it states that I did not have a connection to the internet and the netgear genie asked if it should create the connection. I responded yes and the genie started doing the work and then displayed something about a PPPoE connection and asked for my signon and password. I did not remember so I called the DSL provider and they gave it to me. I enter these credentials and the genie responded that the credentials were invalid. I contacted the netgear support and that guy was not much help. he tried some things and when it came to entering the username and password for the PPPoE connection and we received the invalid message, he said that it might be a bad router an that I should take it back and get a new one.

Hello,

I have an Asus Netbook 1005P, running Windows 7, SP1, with Internet Explorer 11.

I am often but not always, experiencing the following issue:

When I attempt to connect to Wifi at a caf, the "Wireless Network Connection" for the Network shows "Connected", yet there is no Internet access. Placing the pointer over the Connection icon in the Notification Area displays:

"Unidentified Network No Internet Access".
(The network in question always has an SSID shown in the Wireless Network Connection list.)

This issue occurs whether I am running only the Windows firewall, or am only running the firewall that I prefer which is Comodo.

For antivirus I have Avast Pro (with its "web shield" currently disabled) and so far as this issue is concerned it makes no difference whether this Avast component is enabled or disabled, or whether I disable all Avast Shields.

When this issue occurs, there are often other customers in the caf connected to the caf wifi and also using the Internet.

I have to ask the caf to reset, or turn off and then turn back on, their router, yet other customers do not have to do this to get Internet connection!

This is the issue at whatever caf, to whose Wifi I attempt to connect.

Please help with a solution to this issue.

Regards,

Robert339

not installed) and so far as this issue is concerned it makes no difference if I
disable Avast.
When this issue occurs, there are often other customers in the
caf connected to the caf wifi and also using the Internet.
I have to ask the caf to:
reset,
or turn off and then turn back on,
or remove the power plug,
for their router,
yet other customers do not have to do this to get Internet connection!
This is the issue at whatever caf, to whose Wifi I attempt to connect.
My computer has an up-to-date network adapter update!

Please help with a solution to this issue.
Regards,
Robert339

Regards,

Robert339

Hi guys, I found an old computer in my basement from 2005 maybe, it's running windows xp. Anyways, I'm can't figure out how to connect it to my xfinity wifi. Every time I press connect to Internet it asks about modems. I've googled how to connect it and I can't seem to figure it out. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

A:Help connecting to wifi

Hey Ryan. Is this a laptop or desktop. If it's a desktop, it likely doesn't have a wireless adapter that will allow connection to you wireless network. If it's a laptop, right click on My Computer,Properties, select Device Manager tab, then look for Network Adapters and click once on the + and see if you see any wireless adapter listed and if it is enabled. You can enable/disable a wireless adapter by right clicking and toggling between enable/disable. In either case, it probably needs quite a bit of work to get it up to date, and assuming everything else seems ok, I myself would start from scratch and reformat the drive and reinstall XP (assuming you have an XP disk for it) since any maintenance programs are just as old. If you're not sure about this, tell us the make and model number of this pc.

Hi FoldedBrick, and welcome to TSG.

Well, you or somebody else at your house is going to have to supply a bit more information about the WiFi set-up being used.

1) Name and brand of the wireless router or wireless access point being used to share the Internet connection.

2) The SSID of the wireless router or wireless access point and if it is set to broadcast the SSID.

3) What, if any kind of wireless encryption is being used and the key or pass phrase for that encryption. You do not need to tell us the actual key or pass phrase.

4) If the wireless router or wireless access is using any kind of MAC filtering to limit which computers and other hardware can connect to the wireless router or wireless access.

I have two wifi APs (let's say AP-1 and AP-2) and I sometimes have to switch from one to the other. The AP-1 is my main AP so it is always set with "Connect Automatically" for boot up. But, a lot of the time it does not connect to either AP on boot.

When I need to use AP-2, I select AP-1 and click "Disconnect."

I select AP-2 and Click "Connect" leaving "Connect Automatically" un-checked.

After using AP-2, I again select it and click "Disconnect."

Then select AP-1 and make sure the "Connect automatically" is checked, then Connect.

At the next reboot, about 40% of the times it connects to AP-1 but the rest of the time it connects to neither even though "Connect Automatically" is still checked..

Anyone have some thoughts on how to force this so that it always connects to AP-1 on booting up?

Not only am I a WiFi newbie, I'm also a Windows 7 newbie as well. I learned to use computers on Mac/Apple computers. This just adds to my dilemma and confusion.

OK, here's where I'm at right now.

I have an HP laptop (windows 7 x 64 bit) that I've been trying to get to connect to several local WiFi hotspots. I've only been successful at connecting one time. This was at a local BestBuy store and the internet speed was next to non-existent. The sales person stated it was most likely because alot of their in-store demo-products were also connected to the same WiFi and it created a drag on the internet speed.

In an effort to connect to other free WiFi hotspots in my vicinity I built a "Long Range WiFi Antenna." It works like gangbusters regardless of which direction I aim it. And many of the hotspots I'm able to pick up are nationally known Free-WiFi-Hotspots.

The problem is that no matter how strong of a signal I'm receiving, I can't connect to the internet via any of these hotspots. I'll get a message on my laptop telling me that it can't connect to the chosen hotspot.

There has to be something that I'm missing here. My Mac computers will work but, I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong with my windows based laptop.

My "Long Range WiFi" antenna set up is a combination of a C. Crane Super-USB-WiFi-Antenna and an old Dish-Network parabolic dish plugged directly into the USB port on my laptop.

The combined number of both the Private and F... Read more

Info in your profile in the system specs would help greatly...PC/Laptop maker, model, ditto on the network adapters from your Device Manager. A screenshot of your adapter page from network and sharing...what anti-virus are you using, error messages you may have gotten while trying to connect, search for and install Xirrus WiFi desktop gadget, will show you signal strengths and channel info of surrounding connections. I can guess you have an HP with Atheros wifi adapter, have you tried updating the driver for the adapter at HP?

Hi!, @macwood: HP not have driver's for Microsoft Windows 10, Operating System for your computer.Only have for Vista and 7 ... http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-G60-Notebook-PC-series/3837658/model/3894827 IMHO, you must return to Windows 7 and download drivers from the site indicated.
