Preferred Solution: speakers not working properly, sound is very low, connected properly, please help!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: speakers not working properly, sound is very low, connected properly, please help!

I think...

1.You may have accidently adjusted you sound configuration settings.
2.You may not have the correct sound Drive (Or none at all). If so check your sound card and browse the web for installable driver (The acctual drivers don't cost anything)

Cant change device volume or speaker volume because It acts as if I have no speakers connected. the audio tab says no playback devices. they are all greyed out. I have been using a Dell XPS(L502x) laptop since 4 years. Till recently my speakers have been working well. But they started giving a Grrr..... noice whenever I listen to music or see movies from past few weeks. I usually use both speakers and headphones to listen. What is the reason for this? Is this because I use headphones more than the speakers??
Awaiting a response,
Thank you.

A:The speakers are not working properly

Hello. Is the noise only through the speakers, but the audio through headphones  is still clear? If so, it could be that the speakers are going bad --either the stereo speakers or the woofer. Speakers in the XPS L502x seem to fail more frequently than in other models.

My hard drive failed and I had to reformat everything. I had to install a new driver for my sound card (sb live 24), but since then, I have no sound. I can hear static where there is supposed to be music. Any ideas?

A:Speakers Not Working Properly

Do you have the speaker icon in your system tray? If so, click on it to open up Play Control.
At the top left Options/Advanced.
In the Play Control box, once again click on Advanced.
If 1 Digital Output Only is checked, uncheck it.
If unchecked, check it.

If you don't have the speaker icon in the tray, Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices.
Under Device Volume, click Advanced and follow the procedure above.

I'm not sure if this will solve your problem, but at this point you're most likely welcoming any and all suggestions.

Also, double check to make sure the speakers are plugged into the correct ports on your sound card.

I got some Xenta 5.1 speakers (consisting of 1 Sub, 1 centre speaker and 2 pairs of satellite speakers) for my PC and Xbox 360 a few months back. Installing them went fairly smoothly after a lot of looking on forums on how to connect to my PC for the full 5.1 effect, however recently they've not been working at all.

All I can hear from the whole lot of them is a faint popping from the from the front right speaker (this doesn't get louder when I turn the volume up, just stays the same level). I've tried swapping the speakers to different sockets in the back, but the popping then just moves to whichever is plugged into the FR slot.

This happens for both the AUX and AC-3 modes, I've tried swapping my PC to AUX, using one of the connecting cable provided with the speakers, but the same happens. I've also tried plugging my mp3 player but again, same results.

Any ideas on whats causing the problem or how it can be resloved?

Many thanks.

The internal speakers of my laptop(model AU003TX) are not working properly. Any sudden  change  in volume or hitting spacebar repeatedly while playing music/video causes the sound volume to drop to inaudible levels. The sound level then persists at that level, until i do some tweaking in sound->playback devices->default->properties->advanced.  But this problem of volume drop persists. I even updated my audio driver. But i still dont have any permanent solution to this annoying problem. B&O speakers in HP laptop has not been a good experience for me. Any solution to this problem? Thanks.

Hi everyone,

I recently was given a Toshiba Satellite by my father-in-law. The screen stopped working and he said that if i could fix it, i could have it. After replacing the CCFL tube and getting it to work, i started to mess around w/ it and noticed that the speakers will work, and i can hear music and sound, but it is barely audible. Of course i tried to manipulate the sound through the control panel application as well as media player or anything like that. The sound would increase and decrease and i altered the setting but, as i stated before, the highest it will go, with the bar at its max, is still barely audible. The Toshiba's model number is 5105-S607. It has a Pentium 4 1.7 GHz processor with 512 ram. It is running XP home ed. with sp 2(which i had to install once i got the monitor working), and it has a Yamaha ac-xg wdm audio device with harman/kardon speakers. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you much much

I am writing on behalf of my brother in law, who is having a problem getting Internet access seemingly out of nowhere.

Have troubleshooted the hell out of it, and even gotten the ISP involved and still nothing.

IP settings are correct, Modem is working properly, and ping tests seem to indicate the NIC is ok but yet no Internet access. Other PC in the house on same drop line has no issues.

Will try hooking it up via USB or seeing if my laptop will connect therefore ruling out external factors, but until then i was curious if anyone had some ideas or thoughts.

I know I am leaving out a lot, but any help is welcomed.

I have a Gateway laptop that runs Windows Vista Home Basic. I purchased the laptop early in the summer and until recently I've had no issues. I can get NO sound from my computer at all. The volume is up and the mute is off. It doesn't even play the windows start up sound anymore. About two weeks ago, I turned it on and everything looked different. As if the screen resolution had been changed. I checked that and it was the same as I've always had it. My icons and fonts and look bigger and sort-of blurry and my screen looks ever so slightly compacted and stretched out. If i try to play video clips, it plays "jerky" or about 2 seconds at a time. The videos play like I have dial-up (even though I have a cable connection). They DL just as quickly, but they play slow. Can anyone offer any suggestions??

Hi, i have a Dell Inspiron N7110 and i feel like my speakers arent working properly, they sound muffled, and on the bottom of my computer there looks like there are 4 different spots the sound comes from, and its only coming from one of them. I just got this computer from a friend to use for a while, so i dont know how it sounded before, or how its supposed to sound, but it says that it has "srs premium sound" but it sounds real <ADMIN NOTE: Substitute character removed as per TOU> . Is there a setting i can change to make the sound better? I just installed Windows 8 on it, so maybe it changed something?? I can hear sound coming from the other speaker parts, but the music isnt coming out. Also, when i plug in a speaker, or headphones into the headphone port, the sound doesnt come through the headphones, it just keeps coming through the computer, and yes im plugging them into the right port. Again, is there a setting i need to change? Anything will really help. Thanks

I often use the sound recorder to record music because it is crystal clear quality (and my television is not), but just recently, the sound recorder hasn't been working properly.

I'm not the brightest when it comes to computers, so please bear with me.

The problem is that the sound quality is now absolutely horrible. The sound level is sky high and regularily fluctuates, there is a bit of static in the backround, and the sound is a bit distorted (almost like a bad techno band made the remix).

I tried messing around with the options/restoring defaults, and checking the FAQ's and troubleshooting, but nothing seemed to work.

I use AV cables and an adaptor to connect the television sound to my laptop.

Any thoughts?

What would cause a sound device to be listed as working properly in the "device manager" utility but no sound device is available in "sounds and audio devices" utility?

Also, Windows will not boot in normal mode. It freezes on the load screen.
It works fine in Safe mode with networking, which I am using now. Thanks.

A:Sound card working properly but not recognized!

Since you can boot into safe mode...I would do so and remove the sound device drivers. I would then see if XP is able to boot normally.

I would do that based on the premise that they are corrupt and incapable of working properly.

Device Manager cannot be relied upon to provide clues that driver files may be damaged...but the fact that the system boots into safe mode but not normally gives a clue that it is a driver problem. Might as well start with the sound drivers.

What sounds and audio devices might you be referring to?

The key question is whether the sounds function is working properly (e.g., you actually hear), not what some utility reflects.

Hi. I have a Darla sound card for recording music. It has always worked great. I tried to install it in my new Dell Dimension 4700 (XP Home SP2, 1G RAM, 2.8G P4, 160G HDD). Hiya, The laptop was having serious issues, so I nuked it and reformatted the drive, and reinstalled  Windows 7 64bit. I've downloaded the drivers from here for audio - http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-g6-1200-notebook-pc-series/5145704/model... I was unsure which was what I wanted for the sound itself for the speakers, so I downloaded each, uninstalled the previous until I got some kind of result, the one that gave me a result was 'IDT High Definition CODEC'. When I click test on playback, sometimes it plays nothing, but other times parts of the chime will play and cut out, in a sort of crackle. Youtube videos don't seem to want to play either, so the drivers itself seems to have installed, but obviously it isn't working as intended, so I'm stumped on how to fix it. okay at first i thought this was a mild issue but apparently not only my desktop is missing, my control panel is missing too. on top of that i'm no longer getting sound from my speaker.

I'm using a Windows 8 on an SSD.

What Happened?
I tried to remove my portable harddrive safely. Then something went wrong with my Local Drive C it seems. A pop-up message saying, "C:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer or on a network. Check to to make sure the disk is properly inserted."

1) system32\config\systemprofile\desktop went missing.
2) Can't search a lot of stuff e.g. Control Panel using Window key+F anymore
3) No sound
4) Startup app doesn't start up automatically even when i have it enabled on Task Manager

What Have I Tried?
1) Copied Desktop folder (empty inside) from my user folder and pasted it in C:\Windows\....\systemprofile folder. That didn't help the case that much either because whenever I start login into my user account I wouldn't able to go to desktop by pressing the Windows key or click on the top left of the Start Menu of Windows 8. Only Window key+D would work. Right clicking the bottom left doesn't bring up a list of stuff including "Control Panel"

I am using windows 8 pro x64 with an asus P8P67 LE motherboard and have a 5.1 sound system. I installed win 8 fresh and the audio was working fine. One time when I booted up, the audio sounded off. The sound was only coming out of the front left speaker. I did the speaker test within win 8 and the realtek menu. The front right speaker is being detected as the subwoofer and the rest are fine. It's the only speaker not working properly so it's like having two subs. I tried setting it to stereo, 2.1, speaker fill, ect... with the same results. I have not messed with wiring or software. Sometimes it would go back to normal but then do it again randomly. In the end, I reinstalled win 8 and it worked fine. Then suddenly, it happened again. The only difference this time is that it will not go back to normal by itself. It seems to be stuck on this "setting". I did do some research but I guess I didn't do it well enough because I could not find an answer that would work. Again, it worked fine in win 7 and sometimes in win8. I have checked the wires to make sure nothing has changed and that they are connected well and they are fine. I tried changing the speaker settings and speaker fill but with no results. I don't know what else to try.

A:Speakers not detected properly

Are you using the ASUS supplied sound driver? if not, give that a shot as it has jack detection and many other features. Non-Vendor drivers may or may not work or work correctly. If you just have the default basic function Windows installed "HD Audio Codec" that is a very good reason for the flakey operation.

Also reseat (unplug and plug back in) all the audio cables to the PC (make sure they are in the correct jacks) and also the cables in the speaker system.

I just got the dell xps 8700 special edition (windows 8) and ordered the AC411 wireless speakers with it partially because it says in the product sales pitch states: "Stream music from your phone, tablet or other Bluetooth device and hear every impressive detail through stylish wireless speakers."  Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case as my phone cannot detect the speakers - just searches endlessly.  My computer won't detect them either when I go to "Add bluetooth device" - it too just searches endlessly with the speakers never coming up.  The weird thing is that the speakers end up working on my computer anyway even though it never detected the speakers via bluetooth.   In my list of devices it shows: Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio).  Maybe I just don't understand how these things work - but that seems weird to me.  In any case - my phone cannot detect which is half the reason I got the speakers - anyone else have this issue?   I don't have any problem pairing my phone with other devices.  thanks

Hello. I have an Asus UX31LA laptop, on which I just did a fresh install of windows 10. I have all the latest drivers from Asus. The problem is that the external usb speakers are not detected properly. The sound is coming out just fine and the Smart Audio software detects them when I plug/unplug the jack but aren't showing up as a separate playback device. Therefore the volume cannot be adjusted individually for each playback device. I did reinstall the drivers, I went to Sound and checked Show disconnected devices. They won't show up in playback devices.

I have no idea what my sister and her friends were doing on the comp for a couple of days that i decided not to use it, but now:

- a few programs take forever to load or don't load at all, but they do show up under the processes tab in the task manager
- after pressing Ctrl Alt Del, the task manager icon appears in the system tray, but the thing only shows up a minute later
- my system recovery is "not able to protect my computer," and restarting does nothing
- actually, when restarting or shutting down Windows, it stops at where it only shows my desktop background and cursor [which is still able to move] and nothing else after that, so i have to hold the power button and force it to shut off
- when I right click the desktop and click on "Properties..." [or something similar to this action] it doesn't show up at all, and whenever I try to open any application after that, they don't even load at all either

Things i've tried to get rid of these problems:
- Virus scan with avast!, a couple viruses found and fixed, but nothing changed.
- disk clean up, nothing changed
- registry clean, nothing changed
- CURRENTLY defragging my C drive, hope something changes..

Anyone know what the heck's going on!?
Anyone got any suggestions on what to do next?
Anything helps and would be greatly appreciated!

When i scan avg tells me there is a couple of trojan horses infected but it says they are unaccessable so cant be fixed. When i boot windows it gives me the black screen asking if i want safe mode, etc. I pick open normally and it will boot. When i try to shut it down, it gives me a blue screen telling me that there is an internal power problem and then it re-boots windows. Tho it will randomly shut down no matter what i am doing. My browser also is very slow now and re-directs and pop-ups are common. the browser will freeze randomly also. I had chrome and ie but i have deleted chrome thinking it may contain the problem but now ie is doing the same thing. I have tried to restore but that didnt work and now windows has deleted most of the restore points. HELP

I recently purchased the Polk Hampden Speakers. For some reason, the manual volume control built into the speakers themselves doesn't affect the volume level. The only way I can adjust the volume is by using my computers volume control software (the little white speaker in the bottom left of Windows 7/8). I am fairly certain the hardware volume control isn't broken, because when I first plugged them in ( a week or 2 ago) they worked fine. It wasn't until I disconnected/reconnected everything from my computer when I installed a new desk that this problem started.
However, even the software volume control isn't working properly either. In particular, when I go into the mixer to see the volume levels for each application, if I adjust the main "Device - speaker volume" it won't alter the specific applications volumes accordingly. Like, I can reduce the main - device speaker volume all the way to zero (not muted) and the applications will still have the same volume level as they did before I adjusted it.
Finally, even my keyboard bindings to the volume control are whacky. I can still adjust the "main - device speaker" volume with the keyboard, however since this "main - device speaker" volume no longer influences the individual application speaker volume level it is pointless to do so.
I have tried disabling all other sound drivers/sound hardware, but it doesn't help.

Please fill in the "My System Specs". It helps us to try and help you. Without it we are shooting in the dark.

The Polk Hamden speakers are Bluetooth connected speakers. Thus Bluetooth connectivity is one issue.

I've got an HP dv7t-7000. I've a recent clean install on it and I cannot get the speakers to work properly. This particular machine comes with a pair of Triple Bass Reflex Subwoofers, which means that it has two run of the mill laptop speakers and an additional subwoofer for each. I have installed the latest drivers from the manufacturer. They actually don't have drivers for Win10, so I'm using the Win8.1 ones. The installation runs smoothly and I can see the Beats Audio control panel. However, only the normal laptop speakers are being driven. No sound comes out of the subwoofers.
After a lot of attempts with the manufacturer's drivers: installing with compatibility mode on, telling windows to update the drivers from the device manager, and tweaking every possible setting in the sound controls, I wound up in this thread. I followed the steps, essentially replacing the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC that came with the manufacturer's drivers with Win10's generic High Definition Audio Driver. Naturally, this has removed the Beats Audio control panel since it removed the previous drivers that came with it.
Win10's generic drivers made the left subwoofer work, but it stopped driving all of the right laptop speakers (the right subwoofer never actually worked).
There are 3 sound devices according to the device manager: High Definition Audio Device, Intel Audio1 and nVidia Audio1 (1 These names may not be accurate, I have no access to my computer right now). I suspect the Inte... Read more

Alright, I've been trying to find anyone with a similar problem, tried some different things but none worked.
I have a jack on the side of the laptop as usual, where I plug my headphones which do work perfectly. The laptop's internal speakers also work. The problem comes when I try to plug in external speakers. So far I've tried 3 sets, 2 of them with a jack plug and one with a normal USB plug. The issue is with all 3 that only one half works properly, the other is very quiet and distorted. I've also tried streaming sound onto my phone and plugging the speakers into the phone itself, but same deal as before.

Is it a hardware issue? If yes, why do headphones and the internal speakers work?

If anyone has any ideas I'd be thankful.

I'm running windows 10 home 64bit on a Lenovo y500

A:Can't get external speakers to work properly on laptop

It is common to find that different jack plugs have slightly different sizes and tolerances, and some connect better than others, and also that the sockets on laptops are subject to wear, and will lose some connectivity with one or both channels. If you can find an adapter - with a short length of cable for strain relief, and preferably an angled male plug connector - that fits well to both to the laptop and headphones, but also to external speakers, that may be a solution.

Some audio control panels allow for output to other sockets, if the audio chip is capable - for instance not only the headphone jack but also the microphone jack, which may be less worn, and may be a better connection for your speaker jacks - at the loss of an external microphone connection. This may not be an option on some laptops.

Otherwise, the socket on the laptop may need to be replaced or adjusted so that the contacts connect all of your plugs equally well - a delicate job best performed by a qualified repair technician. Laptop motherboards are quite flimsy, and movement of the jack through strain on the headphone cable etc., can cause board cracking and solder joint or copper trace failures.
