Can't reach microsoft'w site and antimalware sites - 01.tmp file

Q: Can't reach microsoft'w site and antimalware sites - 01.tmp file

Hi, I have known a problem lately about some malware that won't let you get to any of microsoft's sites or antimalware sites - by scaning my computer found some 01.tmp, 02.tmp files - the files are being deleted by malwarebytes at startup but spawn alive againg every time.I was looking for help at this forum - found some topics about the issue, but could'nt find any answer.so I went to war alone, and won... (after too many hours - about 6)anyway, I'm new around here and probably won't last long, so this is kind of an advice for whomever has this malware problem or for the administrators of the forum trying to help other's:the little $!#!#! is poisening the dns cache - that's why you can't get to any site even you're editing your hosts file.so what you shoud do is:1. open CMD.EXE,2. type in the command line: TASKLIST /SVC - this will list all proccesses currently runing with the services in the background.3. look for a proccess "svchost.exe" with the service "Dnscache"4. open task manager, and if you still don't have the "PID" column, go to "VIEW", "SELECT COLUMNS" and add it5. kill the svchost proccess that is runing the dns cache by comapring the PID's from the CMD to those in the taskmanager.6. now you can access site freely: the microsoft malicous remove tool will find it for you and also COMODO free antivirus.7. NOTICE that until the malware is wiped out you should do steps 1-5 every time your computer is rebooting.EDIT: Moved to more appropriate forum

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Can't reach microsoft'w site and antimalware sites - 01.tmp file

You can simply stop and restart the DNS Service using these commands :NET STOP DNSCache
NET START DNSCacheYou can save these lines in a file with extension .CMD and when you need to run it, just double click on the file.

Was reading this thread "http://forums.techguy.org/web-email/825689-solved-cannot-connect-any-microsoft.html", seems i have a similar problem. I can't connect to microsoft.com from any of the 3 computers in my house. Also i einstalled windows on my uncles computer using his genuine xp pro, set it all up and got him online but he cant get to microsoft either using his router but his other computer using vista will get there, makes me wonder about the router which is what i thought may be my problem. Can anyone help please. Ive tried doing the mtu down to 1400 using tcpoptimiser but dont know if i can do similar stuff to my thomson speedtouch router. Ive also checked hosts file, nothing in there.

A:cannot connect to microsoft sites but every other site ok

So,I guess I might try to ping the sites affected
start/cmd
type in
ping www.microsoft.com or whatever the site name is and note the results.
A failure to ping is generally a firewall issue.

Out of the blue, I got hit with a virus the other day. The most obvious aspect was "Antimalware Doctor", which I have since removed. I've run many scans, including avast boot scans, spybot s&d, combofix, and malwarebytes' antimalware.

Now it seems I am down to the following issues:

I am unable to load the Microsoft Update website
When I run a search in Google, the result links I click often redirect to an ad site
After my computer has been on for a while, I receive a "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services" crash message, which is soon followed by a loss of internet connection

Below are the requested logs, and attach.txt from dds is attached.

For some reason, I am unable to reach Ann Coulter - Official Home Page on my computer. It's been several weeks since I was last able to visit the site. The problem happens in every browser I have, including recent or current versions of Firefox, IE, Opera and Chrome. I can reach any other website I try to get to just fine. I never used to have any trouble reaching that website until about a month ago. No one else uses this computer and I live alone.

It appears that I've blocked that one site but I'm darned if I can figure out how.

Here's what I've tried so far:
1. Run Avast Free Antivirus with the latest version of the program and definitions. Results: no threats found with either the quick scan or the full scan.
2 Run Malware Bytes with the latest definitions. Results: Results: two threats found and removed but I still can't reach the Coulter website.
3. Checked my Hosts file. Results: nothing there is blocking any website.
4. Checked my router settings. Can't see any blocks there.
5. Had other people try to access the site; they were successful.
6. Googled and found one other forum where someone was having the same problem with respect to the Coulter website. But his problem apparently went away two weeks ago. He didn't indicate if he had done anything to make it go away.
7. Checked the Windows Event logs but can't see anything there reflecting my problem.

Can anyone suggest anything else I can check?

This is bizarre.

I'm trying to persuade my browser to connect with www.piratour.net. It times out and fails to find it.

I try on my phone using the home wi-fi - same result.

I switch off my phone wi-fi and try with data. Success!

This happens on the PC with both Firefox and Edge.

I open a command window and try ping www.piratour.net. Nothing, however the screen tells me immediately that the ip address is 167.250.5.29 .

I have spent quality time with my ISP (Plusnet in the UK). The man tried that address from his own machine - no success.

I have tried changing the DNS servers (my idea). No luck.

The fact that the service guy also couldn't reach it suggests that the problem is somewhere way outside my setup.

I would appreciate any thoughts.

My Laptop running XP can reach it. Both PC's are using the same firewall. It was working for a short while after SBC updated software at their end. Now it's not working. I've uninstalled firewall and re-installed it. I've changed firewall, tried other browsers to no avail. I ran IE 6.0 browser repair, that didn't work. Any ideas are welcome.

For the last 4 or 5 days I've not been able to connect to several sites including: Microsoft.com, windows update (and several other MS related sites,) iwon.com and connections to a number of sites have slowed to a crawl.

This is occurring on two computers
1. XP Pro SP2
2. 2k Pro SP4

I have a third computer running 2000 Server with no problems connecting to any site.

The XP SP2 upgrade was over a month ago and I've had no problems related to that other than my computer slowing down a bit.

What really throws me is this occurring on two different computers using different O/S's. I've checked the IE security settings tab and the advanced tab on all three machines (they are all set to default)

Note: I've been running MS Antispyware on these two machines for several weeks with no problems. I also run Spybot on the 2k machine.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

To use some features on the Nascar.com web site, you need to log in through https://secure.audience.nascar.com. Problem is, the site can't be reached or pinged. Increasing ping time generates nothing but timeout errors. Something in the computer is blocking it from reaching that web address, whether it's entered as a name or a numeric address. This problem happens with four different web browsers - IE8, Firefox 3, Chrome and Safari.

It's a Gateway laptop with Vista SP1. It happens with a LAN connection. WiFi and Ev-Do. The web address is available on one machine with an identical WiFi link but not with the Gateway laptop.

Here are some of the attempts to solve the problem that have failed:

Resetting TCP/IP stack.
Switching DNS server.
Removing Norton Internet Security 2008.
Shutting down Windows Defender.
Running the computer with no firewall.
Removing and reinstalling network adapters and reinstalling drivers.
Running Vista in safe mode with networking.
Removing all temporary files and history.
Adding the domain to the IE trusted sites list.

The secure.audience.nascar.com address and the nascar.com domain are not blocked in the Hosts list.

NASCAR tech support has no idea what's going on.

I am using a NetGear RP614 v1 router to share a cable network connection to the Internet. We need to connect to the web site of out local school system, (ip = 168.31.104.246). We cannot see any pages from this domain if the router is connected, however everything is OK if we connect any of our computers to the cable modem. The router is not set up to block any sites. I have reduced the maximum packet size from 1500 to 1400 to 1300 bytes, but no change in connectivity has happened. Any ideas wher to look?
The DNS servers listed by the router are correct, and I still cannot connect if I enter the IP address rather than the URL.

There are computers on the lan running Win 95, Win98, WinXP and all see the same thing. We are using a Motorola SurfBoard SB5100.

A:Can't reach a known good web site when using router.

You can not access your own IP, if that is the IP-number in your router.
Just use http://www.forsyth.k12.ga.us/ and all should be fine.

Hi guys!!  Boy, I hope you can help me because I am about to pull my hair out over this one.

I think I got infected with some virus called HEU_AEGIS_HttpDownloader blah blah a month back.  I think this because it came up in my AV (Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security).  The AV did its thing and I guess cleaned the virus or removed it.  It no longer shows up.  During this time, I also received about a dozen of other warnings about a suspicious file which Trend deleted whenever it showed up.  It was always found at: C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp\***.tmp.exe (the *** would always be some random letters and numbers).  This virus and ***.tmp.exe file no longer shows up.  However...

Since that virus popped up (and these two things may not be related) I keep getting a web threat listed in Trend Micro which shows a web threat which happens about twice every hour.  It says it 'blocked' a web threat to website address 176.9.##.###/ip.php

I have checked my services, msconfig start up settings, registry, and even a complete search on my hard drive for that IP (which I partially masked on purpose).  Nothing can find it.

I tried running full scans of Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security, Ad Aware, MalwareBytes, and Super AntiMalware.  All of them say my machine is clean.

I even tried using my earliest system restore point, and that did not rid me of these constant web threats.

A:HEU_AEGIS, computer keeps trying to reach a suspicious site

I believe I found the cause of this issue.  A rootkit was hiding itself pretty well.  Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, Trend Micro Titanium, and Ad Aware could not find it.  I finally tried Kaspersky's TDSSKiller and it found and deleted an .exe file and registry entry it said was a high risk.  Since it removed the file, I have had no web threats in the past 24 hours.

Here is the text of the infected file TDSSKiller reported and removed:

UDS:DangerousObject.Multi.Generic
File: C:\Document and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\SystemCache\6.0\25\winhlp32.exe
Malware object, high risk

If anyone else is experiencing a constant barage of web threats being blocked and can't find the cause; be sure to try TDSSKiller.

say, I asked this the other day, but I'll ask again. Is there a problem with spywareinfo.com & merijn's sites? The info I received the other day gave me a different link to get there, which worked; now however, I can't get to these sites to download CWS or HiJack This. This is on all three computers on my network(two are 98, one is XP) with all the latest patches, router plus software firewall on each, & no spyware showing up. Maybe the servers are just overloaded with traffic? I'd really like to know; DOES anyone know? Can anyone else get to those sites no problem? I tried clicking on the links in the Sticky at the top of the security forum, and still couldn't get there. Thanks in advance.

Greetings

Something happened that's causing IE7 to redirect to various marketing sites and search engines. IE: I go to google, search for "christmas", and click a link. Sometimes I get what I'm looking for, other times it goes to a random trash site. FireFox seems ok.

Neither Symantec Antivirus and Spybot SD find the problem.

FIDDLER 2 shows that its going to these IP addresses: 67.210.14.44, 72.232.209.5, 67.201.36.16, etc. I can't track down what's causing it though. A registry search doesn't find anyting 9that would be too easy).

All help will be appreciated.

A:IE7 Redirects to bogus sites - can't reach windows update

Greetings

I've been sourcing google, up and down, trying everything that everyone suggests, with no luck. There are all types of tools, malware removal programs, spyware removal programs, anti-virus, etc. Nothing finds this thing.

I went to SysInternals.com (which is easier to remember than the new technet address) with the intent of downloading file mon and reg mon. But, I ended up with ROOT KIT REVEALER.

I didn't note the particulars as I went through it, so I'm not sharing the exact details here.

It showed me that two values in the registry aren't exposed by the API. I tried to find them in the registry, but didn't. I went where it instructed and did a search, but regedit didn't show them. (oh, maybe I should've tried regedt32)

Then I went to system32 and did a search on a portion of what the rootkit revealer told me, and found two dlls. I renamed those files to *.virus, and reboot. The problem appears to be solved.

Hi I have a few problems with my windows XP.

Recently I discovered my computer had an av.exe virus, which I used Malwarebytes antimalware to detect and remove.
But after that, I could not update Malwarebytes antimalware or access thier site.
On a guess, I took a look at my internet protocol, noticed the preset DNS, and promtly reset them to automatic.
I can now access their site and I managed to update malwarebytes, but I have doubts it should be this easy.
As for my windows boot cd, I lost it a long time ago and have not been able to find it.

Here is the DDS scan results and my hopes that you guys can help me out.

Good afternoon all.

I've used this site a number of times to solve some pretty complex problems with client's computers.

Today I come to you with a doozy.

A while back, the computer in question had a scareware virus of some sort (XP AntiVurus 09) I used this web site and got instructions on removal.

Not too long after, it started showing signs of either a residual or new infection.
At first, the network connection was not working at all. Something was preventing the machine from picking up IP information from the LAN.

A little snooping around, and a malware scan found me checking the DHCP service, which had been shut off. Solved that problem.

Next, Firefox would redirect web searches to ad sites, especially when searching for antivirus/anti malware programs. tracked that down to a problem in Firefox itself. Uninstalled that, put it back, and everything works well.

However.

My last outstanding issue, is that I cannot access any web pages that have anything to do with antivirus/antimalware or computer security in general, either from IE or Firefox. I get search and page errors, and no indication that the sites I"m trying to find even exist on the web.

A battery of things have been done to this machine in the last few days to get it cleaned up.

1. Installed Malwarebytes (from USB Key...can't access the site, remember? wacko.gif )
2. Scanned with the Antivirus program that the client has, (Trend Micro Client/Server Security Agent)
3. Updated Malwarebyte... Read more

I'm a tech at a fairly large Public School district. We've been getting a lot of these lately and the one thing I would tell you to check is the connections tab in the internet options in IE. Click on the LAN settings at the bottom of the page, and if "Use Proxy Server" is checked, un-check it. I've been seeing this on most infections recently.

Good Luck!

Dear Friend,
I am Anil from India. I have recently joined the forum after struggling for a week to stablise my unstable PC. I used to have some Anti Virus software on my pc before few years. But since last few years I was not having any AV software as this PC was not being used for surfing etc.
Since I started to use it again for surfing, downloading etc., I wanted to instal avast AV software. I installed it from some recent installer file with me. But when it tried to update the virus database, I got the message that "can't connect to server". Then I tried to open avast.com. But I again got the error message "The page cannot be displayed". Then I uninstalled the avast and tried to open other antivirus sites like norton, mcafee, avg etc., but all failed.
Then I tried to update my system using automatoc update utility. But again failed. microsoft.com also failed to open.
I use GPRS connection through cellular connection to browse the network.
Now I have downloaded and installed Hijack This.

I have my Internet Explorer Home Page hijacked to send me to this site selling antimalware software, like http://asafetyprocedure.com/, but it is not always the same.

Also have a new blinking icon on the task bar that looks like a Windows security warning, but when you click on it, it also sends you to sites selling antimalware software.

I also keep getting popoups that say that I am infected (as if I wouldn't know), and send you again to sites selling "th solution".

Here is my HJT log, to start with. Thaks a lot for any hep.

Both browsers IE7 & FF experience; cannot load any website with antivirus/malware content, loads very slowly and or doesn't load after 3rd tab. Can't update Avast, Spybot, etc.as internet will not allow connection.

Have tried hours of, new profile ff. Clean out caches. Restart. System restore reset. System boot scan-Avast. Disk cleanup, empty history. Spybot skips scanning and pretends it is finished. Tried dowloading spybot to disc then restart on bad pc, still needs connection...denied.

All passwords have been changed to financial sites and no longer accessed from that computer.

What are your thoughts and ideas?

Thanks,

after each scan more and more viruses and trojans are found.
on top of that everytime i log onto windows i get and an alert in my system tray(its a white exclamation mark in a red circle overlapping a green circle) displaying a message "Security Warning:...your computer...infected...malware...click to find out more" then i can either close it or open it. if i click inside the open window it takes me to some antimalware sites. also my internet explorer is completely unusable, after a minute or two of use i get advertising for antimalware sites along with some other random popups.

Something seems to have blocked my internet from connecting to any site that goes to the maker or manufacturer of anti-virus, firewall, anti-spyware/malware sites. These include microsoft, symantec.com, lavasoft.com, grisoft, malwarebytes, and more.

Steps I have taken thus far:

1) I visited "Preparation Guide for use before posting about your potential Malware problem" and ran each step as I am permitted to.

A) In the step "Backup your data" I cannot connect to the Microsoft Backup for Xp, nor Cobian or DriveImage sites. Something is blocking it.
In the step "Slow Computer/browser? Check Here First; It May Not Be Malware", even though my computer iosn't running slow, I figured it couldn't hurt, so I visited that topic and performed the steps I could. I opened my tower and cleaned it out with canned air, checked everything, and nothing is wrong.
B1) I used the winsock repair utility and restarted, to no avail.
B2) I have no toolbars.
B3) I ran CCleaner, more than once actually, then restarted.
B4) I ran CHKDSK in Safe Mode. Restarted.
B5) I ran the System File Checker, then restarted.
B6) I ran defrag on both my system and pagefiles, then restarted.
B7) I have no unnecessary services or startup entries.
B8) I have had visual effects disabled for a long time.
B9) I already had checked my hosts file several times to make sure it was default, a... Read more

Hi,A few days ago my computer got infected with an Antimalware Doctor infection. I ran Spybot S&D and Antimalwarebytes which seems to have removed most of my problems. However, while I am browsing, google redirects me to ad pages or random tabs pop up in firefox with ads or reported attack pages. Not even Hitmen Pro 3.5 was able to get rid of it though it did warn me about a hidden rootkit on my system. The following is my DDS logDDS (Ver_10-03-17.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Christian at 18:35:18.93 on Thu 08/05/2010Internet Explorer: 8.0.6001.18928 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.0_17Microsoft? Hi

I am new to this forum. I am having a major issues with my pc. First its all started when the malware paytime.exe attacked my pc. It turned off my firewall(SP2 Firewall), real-time virus scanner(Trend microoffice client, not using its firewall, provided by my service provider). With the help of hijackthis, spybot and ewido and also the interent , able to delete paytime.exe and its related files.
To this I entered in safe mode.

Now I am able to control my firewall. Thats the only success BUT when I click nvmixer.exe in my taskbar, it shows visual C++ runtime error and my virus scanner is saying that officescan client has not started. So in control panel I entered in administrative tools and tried manually to start real time scan process but I failed again. It shows cannot start this process in safe mode. The same thing is repeated for other processes like error reporting etc. I am booting in normal mode only but its showing cant run in safe mode.

For runtime error I tried to download visual runtime files from support.microsoft, I failed to do so. My browser doesnt open sites of microsoft. When I typed support.microsoft.com, Page cannot display error is coming. I even disabled my firewall still it doesnt works.

Could you tell me how to make my process start again? And is there any program that will tell me about missing dlls if any(presently there are no dialogs of missing dlls). And about my browser security settings?

I also present you the log of the hijackthis.

Sometimes when viruses are cleaned out the process damages system files etc too. I'd suggest starting with a sfc and then if no go run a 'repair' (this installs os over itself and retains data but you'll have to re-do updates).

Hi

My computer has recently been hit (last 24 hours) with something which is disabling all of my microsoft sites/programs and access to antivirus sites .

Going back 24 hours i had another virus which made my computer really slow redirected sites and posted 3 porn links on my desktop. After this i did a non destructive system recovery (after which i got an ntdlr is compressed message but i fixed it). As soon as i had got the computer running back to normal i installed sp2 as my computer originally came with sp1 and windows 2003 xp home edition.

when i got back on the internet i found my problem and i couldnt sign into msn messenger or access antivirus sites. I have tried these programs :Ad-Aware spybot search , vundo fix , super anti spyware and malware bytes anti spyware.

i have also booted my pc into safe mode and used sdfix. And i have used atf cleaner and cc cleaner to delete cookies and temp files and i have cleared my cache.

Another note i have tried to run Combofix from the desktop but it just says its been compromised and i need to download a new copy and then deletes its self (i have downloaded new copies)
