How to use the Touchpad on my Pavilion Notebook

Q: How to use the Touchpad on my Pavilion Notebook

At the risk of sounding like a total idiot I have the following question.....how on earth do I use my Touchpad?!I can move the cursor around but there are no left and right buttons like on my previous laptops so how do I use this function? Are there other buttons I should be pressing as alternatives?! Final thing; sometimes when I double tap it in order to select something it works and sometimes it doesn't.Please can somebody help this total computer idiot out....!Many thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello people. I would like to request assistance.
I need to disable the touchpad on my Asus G74Sx notebook. Is there some kind of program I can download that will allow me to disable the touchpad? I used to have a program that allowed me to do so, but when I google it now, I don't get any results that will allow me to download that program, it was called FspUip.exe
Pressing function F9 does not disable the touchpad, and going into the BIOS and disabling the internal pointing device also disables the keyboard.

I have downloaded all the drivers for my notebook numerous times, and I don't know what else to do to try to turn off this touchpad. Going into the control panel and disabling the touchpad that way, also doesn't work.

I thought this must be some sensitivity setting but cannot find any such setting with the ALPS mouse control panel.

Anyone know how to tame this beast?

Hi- I picked up a used Dell notebook and have just installed win98SE and just a few other programs, no special mouse software... just Dell sound and video drivers, IE 6.0 and Windows Updates, SpyBot... I have used other notebooks, but never noticed what this crazy touchpad does on the Dell Latitude CPiA366- touching the pad like you were going to scroll the cursor over is having the same affect as a left click with mouse button, or Enter key- do all notebooks do this or all Dells?
Weird- put the cursor on a link and it is activated just by the pad when you put your finger on it- not even a tap really. Is there a way to turn down this too sensitive touchpad?

A:Notebook touchpad question

Hey everybody... I've got an HP Pavilion ze4400 on which the touchpad doesn't work. I can't be sure whether it's a faulty device or if drivers aren't installed. In Control Panel, under Mouse, Hardware, only one device (the USB mouse I'm using) shows up. I'm not sure what the standard touchpad driver for HP notebooks is. Going through the Add Hardware Wizard and telling XP that the device is already installed, it then gives me a list of installed hardware to select from. I don't know what that driver is, if it's even in there. Anyone know what the driver is? Anyone else have this problem? Thanks!

Hi, First, download the latest Synaptics driver installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp53501-54000/sp53851.exe Next, open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry 'Synaptics Pointing Device Driver' and select Uninstall. When this has completed, shut down the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at f10 as soon as you press the power button to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. When windows has fully reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click the Synaptics installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again. When windows has reloaded, see if holding down the fn key and pressing the spacebar will illuminate the TouchPad. There are also further configurable options Here. Regards, DP-K

This issue was raised in another thread which was closed out before it was resolved. I have an ASUS Notebook K53e and I want to disable the touchpad on it which the specific make/model is ELAN PS/2 Port Smartpad. You should be able to do this with Fn+F9 however that keyboard function does not work on my computer as the guy in the previous thread. When I got to devmgmt.msc->Properties on the device->Driver , the "Disable" button is greyed out. I did not receive a driver CD with the machine I purchased . I need this thing disabled because it interferes with the typing very badly. Where do I go from here? Thanks,

Hi @NoGameNoLife , Thank you for your inquiry, I am happy to help! I grasp that you are having a difficulty with the keyboard and Touchpad but your mouse is still working.  When you checked the mouse setting the Synaptics tab was missing.  You downloaded the Synaptic Touchpad driver and installed but it again disappeared and the keyboard and Touchpad stop working,  You deleted the driver this time and rebooted your notebook. You again installed the driver and it prompted  you to reboot which you did, but again the driver is not installed.  The keyboard now works but after some time it quits responding. Have you scanned for viruses and malware? Would you try this step:Go to the command prompt and right click to run as administratorType sfc /scannow and press enterWait for it to complete and then restart your computer. This will scan for corrupted files and try to repair them. Here are links to assist you with some troubleshooting steps.Notebook Keyboard Troubleshooting (Windows 8)Using and Troubleshooting the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 8) If this has not resolved the issue, I would try a Refresh Your PC to Resolve Problems (Windows 8).   If you connect an external keyboard do you have the same issue, does it quit responding after awhile?  If you are still having a difficulty, I would do a full recovery back to factory. Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 8) During the recove... The right hand button on my "Synaptics Pointing Device" on my dv3 laptop isn't working. When I click on it, it does nothing. (This is obviously really annoying if, for instance, I want to open another webpage in a new tab versus new window, etc.) The left hand button, however, works, though acts funny when I start up my computer. If I try to use it as soon as it looks like everything is loaded on my computer, it doesn't work properly. Instead it draws boxes on the screen. But if I wait a minute, then the left click works correctly. I am running Vista. I have my touchpad set up for a right hander. If I go to control panel and mouse and try to switch it over to left hand (which I don't want, I was just trying to play around and see if I could get the button to work), my computer freaks out a bit and doesn't let me change it over. The touchpad portion is working just fine.

I had previously talked to @FlashRam1714 about this problem, who gave me a number of solutions to try. I  tried the hard rest first to no avail.  I followed all the steps in HP Notebook PCs - Using the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 10), including redownloading the newest drivers, and still nothing. I also tried your link to HP Notebook PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 10, 8). I ran the component test for the mouse and passed both the pointing and drag tests. So clearly its not a hardware issue, but a problem with the compatibility between the Synaptics Pointing Device -v19.0.12.98 driver and the Touch Pad. When I roll back to the Microsoft 10.0.10586.0 Touch Pad driver, the touch pad works, but with a lot less functionality (the driver date is 6/21/2006). After a few days though it ends up updating to the Synaptics Pointing Device -v19.0.12.98 driver. Is there a way to stop it from updating? My machine originally had Windows 8.1 on it and I upgraded to Windows 10. I noticed Synaptics has a newer driver (v19.0.19.1) that goes with Windows 10, but I haven't had luck trying to install it. Do you think that's the issue and if so, could you explain how to replace that with my current driver? Thanks, Matt

A:TouchPad on my ENVY Notebook Driver Issue

I have been having the SAME exact issue that you are having.  In fact I bought two of these machines and they both had the same exact issue with the touchpad.   I still have one of these machines but the other was returned. My device is also an HP Envy 15t-q300, also originally installed with Windows 8.1.  I installed Windows on this machine from a clean ISO install. Currently I have Synaptics driver 19.0.19.1 (Driver Date: 8/5/2015).  This provides full functionality to the touch pad and has been stable.  The annoying part however is that Windows Update likes to update this driver.  Once that happens the touchpad will typically work until the machines goes into it's first sleep cycle, and then upon next resume the touchpad shows as disabled and there is no way to enable it.  That is when I must perform the driver roll back and things work for a while again. I have downloaded the latest drvier from synptics and the same issue occur as they do with the driver from Windows Update.  I would really like to see a resolution to this issue as it's really quite irritating.

First I lost the scrolling, vertical & horizontal enabling button grey out when trying, to tick them. I then down loaded the current driver. Tried FN-9/7, nothing worked
Then I reverted to previous driver and that lost me the synaptic touch pad settings only a mouse shows.

The touch pad works but still no scrolling and now the window to get to the settings has gone,

I also cleared the system restore dates.

For better understanding please offer some basic information:
Which notebook model do you have?
Do you use original Windows 7 you got with your notebook or you have installed own OS?
Do you use 32 or 64 bit Windows7?

Hi @FlashRam1714 and @SDJL Per my post from 1-27-16: One day my TouchPad stopped responding completely. I uninstalled the Synaptics SMBus TouchPad driver under Device Manager. After I restarted my computer, my TouchPad was working again with the older Microsoft TouchPad drivers that  were still there. Eventually Windows automatically updated to the latest Synapatics 19.0.12.98 and the TouchPad was working until I closed my laptop and tried opening it again.  @FlashRam1714 intially responded to me and I followed the steps he told me. Here's my response on 1-31-16: I tried the hard rest first to no avail. Again when I roll back to the Microsoft 10.0.10586.0 Touch Pad driver, the touch pad works, but with a lot less functionality (the driver date is 6/21/2006) My machine originally had Windows 8.1 on it and I upgraded to Windows 10. I noticed Synaptics has a newer driver (v19.0.19.1) that goes with Windows 10... Read more

Hi,

Windows XP Pro.

At the office I use an external mouse on my computer.

At the end of the day I (usually) unplug the mouse before going into standby mode.

When I forget to disconnect mouse before going into standby mode...when I get home and resume my touchpad ends up being frozen and won't work.(Note: Built-in notebook keyboard does work however).

When this happens the only way I know how to correct the problem is to restart the computer.

Is there some magic or alternative way to unfreeze my mouse without having to restart the computer?

Thanks.

A:Want to Unfreeze a Frozen Notebook Mouse (Touchpad)

Ctrl \ Alt \ Delete. Click Processes and see if the mouse app is still running. If it is, right click on it and end processes.

I'm having a strange problem. The spot you touch up top is not activating or deactivating the touchpad. It is as though it is not connected to the computer anymore. I already updated the drivers to try to fix, didn't work.Under computer propersties>hardware, it shows up as Synaptics PS/2 port toucnpad, with the image of a mouse on the left, if that helps at all. When I right click on it I can't change any settings or properties. And now my laptop keyboard doesnt work, but the logitech keyboard I previously installed with the computer does work, and operates the lights on the laptop keyboard as well. Help would be greatly appreciated.  My product number is WQ615UA#ABAWindows 7Did not recently make any hardware or software changes.

Hi, I recently got rid of a Google redirect browser hijacker trojan, but still had a lingering effect that started happening when I first noticed the spyware. My HP laptop's touchpad (driven by Synaptics) seemed to randomly freeze, but always froze when I tried to scroll with it or move it too fast. I had run multiple spyware and malware scans, ccleaner and the kaspersky online scan and haven't found anything; the problem persisted. So I uninstalled the driver for it in order to install a fresh version of the newest one.

But when I went to install it I got this message:
And upon closing that one, I got this one:
Also, I occasionally get Windows permission errors related to rundll32.exe too, sometimes when I start Windows or try to change a program's settings. I think it's important to note, too, that I've been experiencing cursor jumping every now and then. I'll be typing then all of a sudden the cursor is a few lines up and I'm typing on lines I've already written.

I think it may have to do with uninstalling the synaptics driver. But alas here I am stuck unable to reinstall it.

Related, I have accidentally deleted my Recycle Bin... and when I go to Personalize and click 'Change desktop icons' it gives me a permissions-related Windows error message with rundll32.exe in the title bar. I have a feeling all of these symptoms are rooted in one central cause, but who knows.

Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
