Win32.exe error report, fatal system error later

Q: Win32.exe error report, fatal system error later

I think rebooting could maybe make things worse, so I figured it would be better to ask for advice before attempting to reboot again, so I don't have the scanning information required.

I began to have problems with my computer this morning (June 29). Last night I had let windows install its updates, rebooted, and left the computer on overnight. When I got up the next morning, it had an error about win32.exe encountering an error and needing to close, one of those error report ones. The first time I didn't bother telling it to send. However, afterwards the taskbar disappeared and ctrl+alt+del didn't do anything. I had to reboot manually, and then it was fine for a while until having another win32 error report, which I sent, and after which my sound failed to work for certain things. My winamp had an error about missing something and wouldn't play, and a youtube video's sound wouldn't play. I didn't have to shut it down manually this time, and the shutdown sound worked. The sound worked again afterward, but I tried virus scanning with Avira and it stopped on svchost.exe.mdmp at 22.1%, and it only found a java/openconnect.l for a ?detection?. I tried getting the task manager, and when I tried ctrl+alt+del and clicked it, it not only didn't give me the task manager at all but it took my taskbar, and then nothing else would work when clicked. I rebooted again and tried running MalwareBytes, and then after a couple minutes the screen went black and then turned blue, and had this:

?STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x0eedfade (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.?

I shut it down manually, and I'm on my linux partition right now (as backup), and now I don't even know if I'll be able to run anything on my Windows partition.

Preferred Solution: Win32.exe error report, fatal system error later

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Bump, please.
I also forgot to mention that after I rebooted the 2nd time, Google Chrome appeared on my computer, but I never installed it. So there's something weird going on there too.

Hi,I have fundamentally the same problem as Laura H from this thread http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic342716.html.I've had problems with these fake antivirus programs before and they really did a number on my laptop. I treated the problem using various tools mostly malware bytes and deleting some suspect files.Been working fine for the most part however today out out of nowhere I was attacked by malware doctor. I deleted the suspect file from the temporary internet files folder and ran malware bytes that detected trojan and deleted. Shortly after drwatson ??? was shut down and some time later I think explorer shut down because my desktop went back to basics....no theme,desktop wallpaper etc. the windows 95 look if you grasp what I'm trying to get at. I thought it was no big issue and in my own time restarted laptop when I realized audio wasn't working after trying to play a film.Upon restart I get the blue screen with the same message as Lauras. So for the most part I'm in the same situation as Laura with some minor differences such as I didn't use Spy doctor etc.I have Kaspersky AV installed which has been inefficient in protecting my laptop lately, especially from these fake AV attacks. I am using Windows Firewall which I know is a bad idea.Myrti was helping Laura resolve the issue and I have followed her instructions upto the following actions:'locate this file and right click it > choose rename > rename it to userinit.txtnow we wi... I'm having a problem with my sister in law's computer. Originally, she had that annoying XP 2008 virus/spyware, which I think I managed to get rid of with Malwarebytes' Anti Malware and System Mechanic 7. Now I have a new problem. After receiving a recent download from microsoft, upon restarting, I get the blue screen of death with this message;

STOP: C000021a (Fatal System Error) The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000)

I can't get anywhere into Windows, I've done F2, F8, F12, everything I could think of without risking more damage since I'm not trained for this. I've booted from the system mechanic CD with the Hard Drive recovery, and while it said it found and fixed a problem, it didn't fix this one. I have no windows CD. The computer is a Dell, and it's running Windows XP service pack 2 with Explorer 6. Heeeeeelp! Other than the F keys, I can't get anywhere with this computer.

I have been battling a virus(es) on my desktop for the past couple weeks. Yesterday, I downloaded and ran Spybot in safe mode. It listed 7 problems and I chose "fix selected". Spybot fixed 5 of the 7 and then prompted me to reboot to fix the other 2. Admittedly, I was brain-faded so I didn't look closely at what file names or paths it was trying to fix. Since that particular reboot, I have not been able to load windows since; fyi, I am running XP Pro. When I powerup, the computer flashes the Windows XP logo and then ultimately gives me the following message (before prompting me for login info): Fatal System Error c00021a. windows logon process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000). The system has been shut down.

At this point, I'm not sure if I have a virus problem that has escalated, causing this fatal error, or a completely different problem. I'll give a bit of a background, since it may be relevent. I run Malware Antibyte scans and Advanced System Care (ASC) scans weekly to clean up any issues, but lately the problems would reappear just hours after running the scan. So, a couple of days ago, I downloaded Avast 5 and completed a scan. I also downloaded a freeware called Teamviewer at that time, although i don't think that is part of the problem, despite the timing. Yesterday morning, when booting up the computer in normal mode, I was unable to see any desktop icons or taskbar, I only could see... Read more

Hi everyone,
This morning I turned on my PC (Windows 7 x64) and I get this blue screen error STOP:c000021a [FATAL SYSTEM ERROR].
I can't even get passed the starting windows screen it just keeps on rebooting then getting blue screen again. I've tried safe mode and last known configuration point. Both just give me blue screen after the drivers are loaded. Haven't installed anything new recently so I don't know what the cause of this problem could be. I apparently have no system restore points even though Norton would make them every scan. I can get to command prompt and that is the only thing I can get to. Is there a way I can fix this through command prompt. I think I've attached the screen it gives me and that's all I know.

sub-forum: guides & solved issues

The above forum has information on how to use Recovery Console & Windows XP CD to restore the OS. Caution, I recommend full backup to a 2nd disk. Caution, don't enter 'r' to the first decision point. Caution: next decision made should not reformat the partition. If you have the ability to clone the hard drive, then you have a spare should recovery be re-done.

Other posts recommend configuring computer to a minimum: the boot hard drive, cdrom, and 1 memory module (256MB is the minimum for XP). This is an easier first step before reloading anything.

Caution: oem restore bombs you back to out-of-the-box conditions. All data & applications are overwritten. This is different from above restore.

You did not indicate what significant changes occurred preceding the problem. Is the hard drive entering old age? Was the disk re-partitioned? Were applications closing/freezing in the days leading up to this?

problem started with redirects from google and other search engines. malwarebytes picked up this malware.trace but would not delete it. i use spyware dr. with antivirus and this picked up nothing but was blocking random malicious websites that apparently the computer tried going too. i also tried going into safemode and run malwarebytes; however just recently i began getting the message STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error} The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000034 (0x00000000 0x00000000). The system has been shut down.

What worries me is that I may have worsened the problem by disabling system restore and deleting the malware.trace file i found in the registry using REGEDIT. The file was located in Hkey_currentuser_software_microsoft_searchassistant_Acmru 5603. Aside for safe mode, the computer would still shut off and on ok after i did this. However a couple of days later (today) it would not startup at all in any mode without getting this error message. So right now I cannot give you any malwarebyte logs or anything. I can startup as far as the main computer menu and select debugging, safe mode, etc. but that is it. This malware.trace thing seems to be getting around in your blogs but everyone who has it is getting varying symptoms as well as different removal instructions.

Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated. If i have to remove and reinstall windows, so be it. Everything personal is backed up on disk... Read more

Hello jrmints

Safe Mode will not work for you but can you access the Safe Mode Options Screen ( the page with Last Known Good Config etc on it)

If you can do that select

At the command prompt type

Hopefully that will open System Restore for you

Hi, I'm new to these forums and the search doesn't seem to be working for me right now so forward apologies if there's already a post with this problem. Anyway, here goes;

I have a HP Compaq Presario V5000 laptop that runs Windows XP Professional Edition. I was browsing the internet when Avast came up with a warning that a Trojan was attempting to download onto my computer. I chose the recommended option to put it into quarantine and my laptop froze completely, so I ended up shutting the whole thing down. Now when I try to start it up I get the following error message:

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000080 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.

My recovery disks start to run and then come up with the same error anyway and I've run a hard drive test in BIOS that says that my hard drive is fine, so that's not the problem. I also get a different error when I try to load in Safe Mode;

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.

I've also tried logging in with the Last Known Good Configuration, which gave me the first error, choosing the format option with my recovery disks also gave me the first error and my XP cd doesn't even register as being in there when I try to use that. I'm really starting to run out of ideas (I came across this web... Read more

so my computer has been infected with spyware and unfortunately i waited too long i guess?
every time i try to start my computer, a blue screen pops up and says "fatal system error" and that the log on process could not be continued.

i really need to know how to fix this and fast. i have so much important school work on there, it's not even funny.

so if someone could at least help me start up my computer so i can remove all the spyware, that would be greatly appreciated:)

A:fatal system error?

At what point in booting does the error message pop up?

If it's when windows is loading etc. then i have a way you could access/transfer the files from your pc to some other form of media... Basically you could use a liveOS on a CD/Memory Stick to boot to some form of OS to allow you to transfer the files from that pc to some other pc. If you're interested in that then the two liveOSes i would suggest are either BartPE(windows based, needs an XP disk to build) or Knoppix(Linux based, need only the ISO to burn to a CD / put on a memory stick), Google either if that's the route you decide to go down...

As for fixing the problem i don't know, because i'm not very experienced with BSODs, depending on where abouts in the boot process it bluescreens you may/may not be able to fix this... Another thing to try(if the BSOD occours late in the boot process) is hitting F8 repeatedly when booting and trying to boot into safe mode (a menu will apear asking how you would like to load the pc)

I receive this message when I start up:

"STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Session Manager Initialization system process was terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc000026c (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down."

There is no possible way for me to get past this screen when I turn my laptop on. I tried using an XP SP2 disk and have it loaded and all my items are still on my C drive. However I have no idea what I would need to do to revert back to SP3. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I have a Dell Inspiron laptop which I bought last year and has windows vista. I was using my laptop last night, and when I got up this morning there was a blue screen which reads:
stop: c000021a {fatal system error}
the verification of knowDLL failed. system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000020 (0x996ab588 0x00000000)
The system has been shut down.

I cannot do anything with it unless I manually shut it down. Then it goes to the screen that gives me the option of either launching startup repair or start normally.

If I Launch startup repair it does the scan. Then says: "startup cannot repair this computer automatically" and asks me if i want to send information about the problem and gives me a list of problem details:
01: AutoFailover
02: 6.0.6001.18000.6.0.6001.18000
03: 6
04: 458759
05: NoRootCause
06: CorruptVolume
07: 0
08: 1
09: Chkdsk
10: 0

It then gives me the option to finish and shut down, view diagnostic and repair details, or view advanced options for system recovery or support which are:
startup repair

system restore: No restore points have been created on your computer's system disk. to create a restore point open "system protection." When you install a hotfix, it automatically creates a hotfix uninstallation folder in your Windows directory. The hotfix backup folder usually has the following naming convention:

$NtUninstallKBnnnnnn$ - Where the nnnnnn refers to the update / Knowledgebase article ID

so for sp3 it would be $NtUninstallKB936929$ If I am not mistaken.

Boot into the Windows XP Recovery Console using the Windows XP CD-ROM.

Type in the password for your installation of Windows XP, and press Enter.

When you see the C:\Windows Prompt, type this command: DIR $*

This lists all the folder starting with the character $. All the $NtUninstall.... folders are now displayed. $NtUninstall folders are nothing but the Hotfix backup folders, which contains the original version of the system files, before the hotfix was installed.

Note down the Hotfix numbers matching the date you installed the problematic Hotfix(es). Spot the Hotfix that you want to remove, and change to that directory by typing this: CHDIR $NtUninstallKBnnnnnn$\spuninst

again for sp3 if I am not mistaken it would be. CHDIR $NtUninstallKB936929$\spuninst

Once you're in that folder, you'll need to execute the spuninst.txt which contains DOS commands, similar to a .BAT file. The command instructions in this spuninst.txt file will actually copy the original system files to their respective folders. To run the spuninst.txt file, type this: BATCH spuninst.txt

The hotfix will be uninstalled. Restart, and see ... Read more

Hey everyone, I was wondering if you could provide me with some direction on how to fix this computer.

What happens is when I turn the system on, it boots up normally until it gets to windows, immediately I get the blue screen of death. It puts out this error message:

Stop: 0000021a Fatal System Erorr
the other digits it displays are:
0xc 0000022 (0x00000000 0x00000000)

I can load the system into safe mode just fine.

I've just tried the memtest and went through 3 passes on all 11 tests, everything checked out.. When I goto bed tonight I'm gonna run the full test.

I dobuled checked to see if there were any virus' or malware that might be causing anything using AVG's free programs, ad-aware and spybot S&D.

I ran a chkdsk and everything was fine, I went to event viewer and there didn't seem to be many events if any related to it. I can show you guys the event viewer logs if needed (there were 1200 system and 788 application items).

Can you guys provide me with any direction?

Have you run anti antivirus or antispyware software? It is possibly your system is infected. Have you added any USB devices or any hardware? Have you updated your drivers recently?

I have a Dell Laptop 8400 that's about 5 yrs old. It was working fine on Monday but when I turned it back on Monday evening, I get the following error:

Stop: c000021A {fatal system error} The windows logon process system process terminiated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005(0x00000000 0x00000000) The system has been shut down.
I googled the error and some comments were to press F8 and choose Last know good configuration. It came back to the same error. I tried booting into safe mode; still it came back. I even tried putting the windows cd in and booting from the cd. and yet it still came back to the same error. What should I do?

No idea what is causing this Blue Screen of Death. Just out of the blue it appears as it does and the computer restarts, the only new software I have instilled was an update to Firefox, but the problems did not start until a few days after I updated it so I just don't know. This is the error info I get after restart.

I loaded XP SP3 on my laptop lastnight to be greeted by the following blue screen message. Now it won't boot up.

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error} The session manager inititialization system process terminated unexpectedly with status of 0x000003a (0x00000000 0x00000000). The system has been shut down.

Is there a work around or do I have to format and reload XP as I don't have the original installation disk.

Thanks, stub.

Did you try using safe-mode? also you can try using spuninst from a command prompt to remove SP3 and re-retry reboot.

Big Problem. I let SP2 download overnight and it told me this morning that access was denied. It said to reboot so I rebooted and I got a blue screen that said

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error

The sesson manager intialization system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000263 (0x00000000 ox00000000).

The system has been shut down.

I cant get into Windows, safe mode, or the last known good configuration. i made a restore point last night before doing this so if I could only access that (if it worked). It wont let me reinstall XP because it takes me back to the same screen. The XP reinstallation CD is in there but it wont run when i turn the computer on, it just takes me to the blue screen. I went into the boot drive when i started up and i tried it from there, but it keeps asking me to retry running it. Anyway to make it run?

I've been reading other posts with this similar error and they just replaced their system32 folder with the one from their old hard drive. Do you think I could do this? Well first of all I need to be able to access my cd-rom, but i couldnt understand what those other posts were really saying. Whoever responds, could you explain this to me in the easiest terms?

My father-in-law’s laptop keeps randomly restarting itself (I already unchecked the restart error option) and it now has the following messages:

1st Message

STOP: 0x000000A (0x00000000, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x80530022)

Beginning of dump of physical memory

The 2nd error code is:

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows subsystem system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xC0000005 (0x77f83aed 0x010cf184).
The system has been shut down.

The laptop had several other issues, I think more from a really, really inexperienced user (sigh) so I did a clean reinstall on the hard drive. While the other issues are solved, it still has this problem. The computer can be off all night but when rebooting either will have problems all day or none at all. I have almost all of the Windows updates done. The driver updates are current.
The system information is as follows:
Presario 1500 Notebook, Model 1525US
40 G Hard Drive
513 MB
Pentium 4 Processor
ATI Mobility Radeon 7500
I am trying to find out if this is a software or hardware issue. Thanks so much!!
