Hello all, I am a solutions architect trying to solve an issue which I have never heard of before. Though others users are having this same issue, my experience has been different then what they have seen. First,The following are the Security options for Thunderbolt devices as per user guide

No Security: Allow Thunderbolt devices to be connected automatically.
User Authorization: Allow Thunderbolt devices to be connected after user authorization.
Secure Connect: Allow Thunderbolt devices to be connected with a saved key that has been approved by the user.
Display Port and USB: Allow only DisplayPort-compatible devices and USB devices to be connected. Thunderbolt devices are not allowed to be connectedI don't think this is entirely true or at least does not apply properly each time. My scenario:T480, T580, or Yoga x1 3rd genImaging with a standalone MDT environmentDevices come pre-configured from Lenovo with Thunderbolt 3 Security Options set to "User Authentication" Installing all the drivers in the latest SCCM driver packs that Lenovo offers - though the x1 3rd gen driver pack was missing on the site this morning. On some devices, this security option seems to do absolutely nothing. MDT uses the local "Administrator" account to perform post-OS items. I'd say about 75% of the devices reach their destination and the user logs in for the first time as a user, not an admin, and the dock functions properly; monitors/mice/keyboard/etc. work. 25% of the time either nothing works, or only the mouse and keyboard. In testing, on all three device types, setting security level to none allows everything to work as necessary. However, setting "Display Port/USB" only allows our monitors to work - mice and keyboards do not. Is anyone else experiencing this issue in the way that I am? Not really sure how to proceed. What is the overall risk to turning off security? Is Thunderbolt 3 creating a trust relationship with the OS where you can navigate the host device going through the connected dock via USB or what? HiI have 2 Lenovo devices:-Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga, i7-7500U, 16GB, SSD 512GB, WQHD OLED 14inch touch, LTE, W10P-Lenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock - Port Replicator - (Thunderbolt 3) - GigE-And i have 2 monitors whit a DisplayPort connection. These are connected with the dock. What i try to do:I wont to work whit these 2 monitors and whit the monitor from the X1 Yoga itself. My Problem:It only works with 2 screens at the same time...- If the laptop is open. I can work whit the screen from the notebook and wiht 1 external monitor.- If I close the laptop. I can work whit both external monitors.- But when I open the laptop again. 1 Monitor turn into black. I updated everything whit the Lenovo System Update Tool. Everything is up-to-date.Also the Windows Updates are Up-to-date.Manually checked from the Intel website, also everything is up-to-date. Is there anyone else having this problem? Not able to get two monitors (Samsung S27E450) plugged into a ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 docking unit to work with my X1 Yoga (Gen 2).   Montiors connected to docking via DisplayPort cables.   Windows 10 shows the monitors showing up as "Generic PnP" so something is being recognized.  Tried deleting the device in Device Manager, reboot.  Not finding the drivers on the Samsung site.   Any help appreciated.

So I have a Precision 5510 laptop with Xeon processor, no 4K screen.  My question is about this thunderbolt dock TB16.  I have one HDMI out and was asked if I can make that work on 3 external monitors.  None are 4K.  Is that possible?  Can it function as extended desktop, not duplicated? And if so, is that 3 external plus laptop? Or is the laptop screen on of the 3?

Hi There, I'm having trouble with a Lenovo P52 with a Thinkpad Thunderbold 3 Dock. When I Conect my dock to my laptop it wil ask if i want to allow it. (It always asks strangely. Even if its in managed Thunderbolt devices.)  After pressing ok the problems start.-Shortcuts are flickering on the Desktop and in the taskbar.-Not being charged-No Mouse & Keybourd-No Ethernet.-External screen does work but with above problems. Additional information:-With only the powercord and usb-c into the Lenovo Laptop and nothing else in the dock it stil gives the same problems.-Tried with difirent cables.-Tried other Docks but same problem. (Docks that work with other Lenovo laptops)-It works somtimes. once every 5-10 tries. But fail right after trying again.-No Faults in Lenovo center. Product information:Lenovo Vantage InfoLenovo Thinkpad Thunderbold 3 DockModel Number: DBB9003L1 I have updated the most drivers that would be needed for the thunderbolt & Lenovo but nothing seems to work. I have narrowed the issue down to a software issue.  I have tried resetting the dock, the computer, updated to the newest driver as well as even replacing the dock itself.  I had an extra and thought the dock ports might just be dead but the new dock doesnt work either.  I have also tried both ports on the PC in order to rule that out as well.  Does anyone have suggestions?  Thank you in advance!!

Hi, I  got Yoga 920 with Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 Dock that is connected to two 4k Samsung monitors. Just recently when I put Yoga 920 to sleep the monitors will switch off, but in 10-15 sec start looking for a signal.Basicaly screen goes to black (looks like monitor is off) and then in 10 sec it switches on a show blank screen with input name on (DisplayPort) and than it goes off and in 10 sec on with input name ..... this keeps cycling on and off. This is happening on both monitors. It's strange as it used to work fine untill recently (apropox 1 week ago). Im on latest bios with Yoga 920 and latest firmware for Thunderbolt 3 Dock and Lenovo Vantage says my system is up to date. The windows recently updated to Windows 10 (1709), not sure if that is related. Any help how to fix this issue?

I used the Lenovo System Update (v5.07.0074) and was prompted to download and install (was listed as Critical Update) the Firmware to my Dock.  As always, I closed all applications and sat as the Firmware downloaded. I got the expected prompt to ensure I was plugged in. I then watched as the upgraded prompted me to install. Installation completed and everything appeared to be fine.  I powered down the thinkpad and disconnected. Worked from the living room, then went back to the dock. Connected, and noticed that before I connected the White light on the power button was illuminated. Shrugged, and pushed the power button. Nothing. I un-plugged the Dock, got a cup of coffee, returned and plugged it back in. Nothing. I then noticed that none of the pass-through power was working on the dock.  So, I unplugged it again.  Unplugged everything connected to it, and held the power button down for 15 seconds in an effort. All of this at the recommendation of Lenovo Support. Who, by the way, was very nice and well spoken. Nothing we did worked. I happened to have another Thunderbolt 3 cable in my bag, and no change. I powered up my new X1 Yoga, and connected the cable. No power. This wasn't passing power at all. I confirmed the Intel Thunderbolt app was running, and confirmed that Windows was not even detecting the Dock.  Lenovo is sending me a replacement. If I put my computer in "Sleep" mode and turn it back on, I can never get the dock to work again. I have tried to upgrade BIOS and drivers as described in several posts, but it doesn't work. The only working solution is to restart the computer. Has anyone got the same problem?

The thunderbolt dock was working.  I was gone for a week.  Came back and plugged laptop into dock.  No longer works.   The dock will charge the laptop, but none of the devices are recognized. Drivers are up to date.

I just installed the latest set of drivers. The dock still does not connect to my XPS 15- 9550.
This process has gone on for two months.

A:Thunderbolt TB15 Dock still not working

Return it. No amount of software/firmware updates is going to make this device good. It has several hardware issues.

Since the last Thunderbolt firmware update the DP ports no longer work. No matter what settings you try, no signal is detected. The only way to use monitors now seems to be to use the front USB-C port and connect it to the first monitor and then use DP daisy chain from monitor 1 to monitor 2. We have 2 Thunderbolt docks with the Update installed and both have the issue. We have one with the stock firmware and it works flawless.  Anyone else having the same issue? Any idea how to fix?

Hi!I just got a new "X1 Carbon 5th Gen - Kabylake (Type 20HR, 20HQ)" and a "X1 Carbon Thunderbolt 3 Dock". I have an external screen connected to the dock and it works fine (VGA connection). I also have an other monitor with display (DP) connection that I want to use. But my computer can't find the other monitor, only the one with VGA connection. Is there any easy ways to fix this problem?Best regards

Hello, My company recently purchased a dual 4k setup for a work station. The setup is the following:2 ThinkVision P27 monitorsLenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 DockT570 (Type: 20HA) I setup the monitors and docking station yesterday and was able to power the displays using a X1 Carbon 5th gen (i5 model type: 20HQ) thru USB-C without issue. I have a user testing out the desk now with a T570. I'm able to get one monitor to funtion at 4K and the other is running at 1080p. If you check display settings I'm unable to increase the resolution to 4K. I've updated all drivers on the T570 including the display driver and thunderbolt docking station driver this morning and the system still fails to power dual 4K. I brought back the X1 I used previously and it powers the screens normally. I checked the specs of the T570 and its identical to the X1 as far as processor is concerned and the model page claims the USB-C port on the T570 can power dual 4K. What else can I try?

I have an HP Zbook Thunderbolt 3 dock on my HPZbook G3.  I recently updated the BIOS and firmware to the latest version to fix other "dock" issues.  Am now at the latest for both.  The dual monitors and ethernet over the Thunderbolt 3 work, but none of the USB ports are active. I'm certain the USB ports work, becuase they used to work prior to the BIOS and firmware update.  Neither keyboard, mouse, or USB memory work in the dock. I've tried going to HP support and installing any of the updates with USB in it, but it hasn't worked.  I have a workaround--just plugging in to the notebook directly, but would like to get my dock fully functional. The Device manager doesn't show any devices with issues.  I'll try to update, but I don't know which one to look at.

After a long series op updates and firware upgrades we still encounter much trouble with the HP Thunderbolt Dock's Recently (7-2-2017) we installed a new HP ZBook G3. We always reinstall our ZBook G3's with a 'clean installation' of Windows 10 and the required HP Drivers. After adding de required software on this laptop our nightmare begins... Unable to attach usb keyboard or mouse on the Thunderbolt Dock and after rebooting a few times even windows crashes.Once you detach the dock,the coputer will eventually start again and will work as it should.Any attempt to unload update drivers and reinstall have no effect. After contacting HP support we received a link Troubleshoot Thunderbolt 3 Dock.In this document they descrbe a specific order in which to install you drivers. Since we already tried this in all our previous problems with the dock, i was getting somewhat despirate...Untill yesterday where i stumbled upon a message on the HP forum including the use of Citrix Client Software which happens to be so in our case. After a clean installtion of Windows 10 and installing the drivers in the required order like described in the Thoubleshooting documentation the Zbook and thunderbolt dock both work fine.Then i installed the citrix receiver 4.6 software and al my troubles were back after a reboot. I removed the Citrix Client and now everything works perfectly. The next challence is to get Citrix working again........... Hello,  I just bought a X380 and a Thunderbolt 3 dock and it seems that even if I updated the driver to the latest one, my dock is still not working to provide power supply to my laptop via the USB C Cable. It has different error messages: 1. plugged in, discharging2. plugged in, not charging3. it is plugged it, it shows like it is charging but it is not.  I don't know what to do anymore and I would really like to work. Could you please advise?Also, my battery is draining, from 100% to 86% in 10 minutes without heavy usage.  Thank you for your help!

I purchased the Thunderbolt 3 Dock with my Yoga 920 as it was listed as an accessory during my Yoga 920 purchase back in November.  I finally got around to setting it up and I can't seem to get the power button the dock to turn on my laptop.  The button glows white when my laptop is plugged in but the button will not turn the laptop on.  I have my power button option in Windows set to "when i press power button while plugged in, the laptop will go to sleep."  So even while the laptop is connected to the dock via USB-C/thunderbolt and the laptop is on, when I push the power button the dock, it doesn't put the laptop to sleep either--it does nothing. Googling around, I see there is a newer dock called USB-C dock and it's listed as compatible with the 920 whereas as the Thunderbolt 3 Dock is not listed as compatible.  Could this be the issue?   I also have thunderbolt software installed and it detects the dock in the software. I need some help please!

Received Thunderbolt 3 dock for my X1 Yoga 2nd Gen.It's charging the Yoga, the two displays are working.ALL the USB and ethernet ports are not.Did the updates, restart, repower of dock and Yoga.I know the ethernet is good because I have been using an USB to ethernet directly connected to the yoga.Yes I disconected the USB to ethernet adapter when trying the ethernet port on the dock.

I have been experiencing issues with my USB keyboard on my XPS15 9550 w/TB16 Dock when the Logitech G610 USB keyboard is plugged into TB16 USB 2.0 port in the back.
The keyboard will hang, accepting no input. or may hang on a certain letter, thus producing an "aaaaaaaa" across the screen until the keyboard "comes back".
Keyboard seems to work fine while plugged directly into the XPS15 rather than the TB16.
I also have an external USB drive for backups that I use connected to the TB16, although seems to be functioning fine. I have not had a backup fail, so, I assume it is working fine.
I have tried downloading all of the drivers, and re-installing them in the proper order according to the documentation while disconnected from the TB16, and then connecting to the dock.

Is anyone else experiencing a similar issue?  Is it the dock or the 9550?

If you happen to run Citrix Receiver, make sure you're running at least version 4.9, since earlier versions are known to cause USB issues with the TB16, although that typically presents as the USB ports not working at all.  If not, then there was also an issue with intermittent USB device disconnects that was eventually solved through a combination of drivers and firmware, so when you say you've downloaded all of the drivers, please confirm that includes:
- BIOS
- Thunderbolt firmware
- Thunderbolt software
- ASMedia USB Host Controller driver

I would like to use my T430s with two external displays, for a total of 3 displays. My configuration:T430s with NVS 5200 (Win 7 professional)Mini Dock Series 3 (4337)external monitor 1 connected to DVI on the dockexternal monitor 2 connected to VGA on the dock The system detects both monitors fine, but will only allow me to extend desktop to one of them at a time. Can you guys help me? My understanding is that it should work just fine with my configuration.

I have two 27" 2560x1440 60hz monitors that are plugged into the new Pro side-connect dock (40AH) with a new T480 (Intel 620 integrated graphics) in Windows 10 Pro. I can get either monitor to work fine with the dock individually, but trying to run both simultaneously by extending or duplicating the desktop between them seems to fail as selecting either option under Display Settings just makes the primary monitor black out for a few seconds then come back - the secondary monitor stays black.  There's no error msg or popup that would help me investigate further unfortunately. I'm trying this with the T480's lid closed, and I'm running the latest 1.14 BIOS update and latest Intel HD graphics drivers. This setup worked fine on my old OneLink dock and X1 Carbon previously, so I don't think it's an issue with the monitors themselves. Anyone have a similar setup with the new Pro dock that's working?

I've bought TB16 and update all drivers (Dell Assist does it) and after lowing network settings to 75% my DELL monitors flickering less but now I have major issue since my Dell Adapter - USB-C to HDMI-VGA-Ethernet-USB stop working completely. When I plug in nothing happens (yes, adapter is working properly and yes cables are correct)
In first few days, randomly, Windows was enable to turn on output to adapter (after hour of plugin, plug out same adapter).
Now, it's completely useless. 
Can anyone help, any suggestion ?

Hi, I have just received the HP Elite Thunderbolt 3 65W USB-C Dock. I have plugged it in, and my Elite X2 1012 G1 charges, but that is all. None of the ports are working. Monitor is not recognised either. If I plug my phone in via the USB port, it will charge, but not recognise it as a storage device. I have searched everywhere, and cannot find drivers that will resolve this issue. I have:- Thunderbolt software installed, and running, but still to no avail.- Installed and run "Intel Thunderbolt Firmware Update Utility", but get an error that there is no controller driver. Please help. ps. The machine was reimaged with a corporate SOE. So I am not sure if I am missing drivers.

Hi, Everyone. Got me a nice little x270 to replace my old x201.  Happy enough with the machine, but getting it connected to my accessories (monitor, keyb, mouse, ethernet) is a bit of a chore. This machine appears to have a "proper" dock port on the bottom.  Is there a compatible ultradock available for the model 20HN x270?  By proper - I mean, Not USB.  A nice dock I can simply drop the machine into when I'm at the home office.. Thanks!

HP ZBook Dock with Thunderbolt 3 usb device issues. USB Keyboard randomly sends a stream of a repeated character.  I will be typing and mid worrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr d will get results like in the word above.  The inverse happens alot too, were it just drops a few characters i have typed. USB Mouse lag is horrible. Both devices will stop functioning, need to reboot the dock to recover them. Any one have any suggestions or which drivers are the most stable?

For some reason, i can't turn on my new P51 using the power button on the Thunderbolt 3 dock.   I'm sure i've got something hooked up wrong, but thought i'd check here.   Is there a setting in Control Panel (power button) that i need to change?  In order to use my laptop / view from my external monitor, i have to open the lid to the laptop, power on and then i can use the external monitor.  thanks for any help.

Love the concept of the thunderbolt 3 dock, can't fathom how it was designed though.  On my zBook 15 G3, the power and thunderbolt ports are on the right side of the laptop.  The dock has the cable port on the left rear side, completely crossing over all the ports when you put the dock on a desk with the back facing away from  you.  Then they ship a cable that is barely long enough to put the dock directly behind the laptop and connect it.   Where do I buy a longer cable HP, please!

So I have an X1 Carbon Gen 5 (Kaby Lake) and the Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen 1 (40AC0135US). I bought two 4k monitors and after several frustrating hours figured out that the Gen 1 dock can't output 4k on two externail monitors at 60hz, this appears to be a dock limitaion only. I see that you now have a Gen 2 dock (40AN0135US) that says it will do 2x 4k @ 60hz, only problem is that every compatability cross refrence I can find does not say the gen 5 X1 Carbon supports this new dock. I don't see a good reason for it not to be compatiable, but wanted to find out for sure one way or the other before I bought it, as it is not cheap.

I connected my P1 to my existing Thunderbolt 3 dock and to my pleasant surprise, the system was in charging mode when the system was off. I thought that the unit could only charge through the slim power connector port, but it seems that it will also charge through the Thunderbolt 3 port when the system is not running.

Hi allWell we all now about the fan issue which is much better since the last BIOS update.Nevertheless I have sometimes fluctuation fan noise, although there is no load. This is mainly when the notebook is at the thunderbolt docking station.I found out, that as soon as I connect my notebook to the docking station more or less all app-processes suddenly move over and start running on the GPU. The CPU has virtually no load.Why do all processes start to run on GPU when the notebook is connected to the dock? Is this an issue or is there a good reason for this behaviour?My Notebook and Windos has the latest drivers/bios and updates installed.Regards,Sebastian

Hi,I have a Thinkpad P50 and today my Dell Thunderbolt Dock arrived.Unfortunately, it doesn't work  (= it is not recognized in any way), although Dell specifically says that the dock also works with non-Dell Thunderbolt 3 machines. I have installed the Thunderbolt software from the P50's driver site and updated to BIOS 1.17.Lenovo released an "Intel Alpine Ridge Thunderbolt Firmware" for the P70. But there's no such firmware update on the P50's site, just the Intel Thunderbolt Software from November.The 1.17 UEFI/BIOS Update says it fixed a Thunderbolt issue, but apparently not mine Has anyone ever gotten some Thunderbolt 3 device working on the P50? I just hope this will be fixed soon, because the Thunderbolt dock seems to be the only convenient way to drive three 4K displays with the P50 (2 via Thunderbolt 3, 1 via miniDP).

I want to buy the Lenovo Yoga 920 (i7 with 16 GB) and I?m used to work with 3 external full HD Monitors. Since it has 2 Thunderbolt ports, it looks like the Thunderbolt 3 Dock may work with the 920. However, it is not listed on the compability list for the dock. Therefore: are the dock and the 920 working together?

I have a user with two LT3053s (2560 x 1600) and his previous T440 + Ultra Dock (I believe) supported the full resolution at 60 Hz (again I believe).  I upgraded him to a T480 and our standard Type-c dock that we deploy limited the screens to 1920x1080 @ 60Hz.  After this and complaints from the user of headaches from the drop in resolution we purchased a TB3 Gen 2 Dock and even after plugging the dock in to the actual TB3 port on the laptop (not the top type-c port) we are having issues with not all of his devices working, namely the kb+m. Any ideas here?  Right now we are running it with the 135W power adapter that it came with, but there is also another power adapter available that did not come with the unit we purchased.

We recently started using Bitlocker with a PIN at startup. On all our laptops using the "old"-type dock, that you click your laptop into everything is working fine, the users put the laptops into the dock, turn it on, type in the Bitlocker PIN using the external monitor and keyboard, and then processed into Windows. Our problem is with everyone using the new Lenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock. When the users connect the laptops to the dock using the cable and then power on from the dock, the laptop will power on (the LED in the ThinkPad logo lights up) but the monitors and keyboard connected to the dock is not working, and then after some time the laptop will power off again. We currently use a workaround where the users power on, type in the Bitlocker PIN and login to Windows before connecting the laptop to the dock, but this not a proper solution. We have Enabled both "Thunderbolt(TM) device" and "USB device" under "Support in Pre Boot Environment" in the "Thunderbolt 3"-menu in BIOS, but it still doesn't work. Have anyone else experienced this problem? Or does anyone know of a proper solution.

I just picked up the TB3 dock and all seems to be working, however it is not charging my laptop using the included Thunderbolt/Power combo cable. The power light shows on the dock, and connected devices work on laptop, but no power. Any ideas?

Hi  I have 2 new L480 (20LS-001AMX) and 2 new Thrunderbolt 3 Dock (DBB9003L1)Is there some way to get this type of dock to work with the L480? Note: in the Dock spec. the L480 are not mentioned are compatible.Could it work any way? Mikkel

I have a new P51, 64 GB ram, SSD hard drive. Ihave a docking station at work and one at home. The one at home has a 6 TB Seagate BarraCuda pro USB3 drive attached. When I dock the laptop at home, the system will not boot. It gets to the bios boot sceen and stays there until I turn off or disconnect the USB drive. Once I do that, it continues to boot and if I turn the USB drive back on, it works fine. If the drive is my old 1 TB barracuda, it boots normally.

Hello all,I bought a Yoga X1 2018 and during the shop they suggest the Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 Dock. Since I thought that having to disconnect only one cable when bringin the laptop from the desk to the meeting room would have been useful, I bought it.With my disappointment I setup everything and I did some tests on the laptop just to discover that the performance of the laptop when powered through the docking station are 1/3 with respect to when it's powered by the 65W power supply and 1/2 of when the laptop is on battery... (234pt vs 640pt vs 563pt | dock/65W/battery)Now since the docking station has a 135W power supply, I really can't think that this is an issue with the supply from the docking. Also since the laptop is even faster on battery I really don't understand how it could be related to the power supply... anyway I've connected both the 65W power supply and the docking and the performance are back to normal.Is there anyone who can suggest me what's going on or how to report this to Lenovo?

Hello,i have the same setup (X1 Yoga 3rd Gen + Thunderbolt Dock)  and dont experience less or different performance.I have 2 monitors with display port and couple of USB devices connected to the Dock. Also using 2 external and the Yoga monitor at the same time was never a problem.What tests have you done to measure the performance?best regards,AT
