Microsoft Project 2007 Work Week Defiition

Q: Microsoft Project 2007 Work Week Defiition

Hello all,

I am new to Microsoft Project 2007 and have a question regarding how this software defines a work week.

I have created a new calendar that is a 6 day work week and 60 hours a week for a project that I am working on. Thus, I know how to change the working time, the default work week, and under the "options" tab in the "change working time" menu I have changed the defaults to match what my calendar has for starting and ending times, etc.

My question is since I have changed the work week to start on Monday, if I start a task on a Monday and assign it a duration of 1 week, the task does not end until the next Monday. Since I have defined a 6 day work week, a week to me seems like it would be 6 full working days, and if it started first thing Monday it would end at the time I assigned on Saturday as the close of work. If I assign the task a duration of 0.98 weeks it ends on the Saturday that I wish it would end on, it does in fact end on Saturday.

If you change the view to "calendar" a task that starts on a Monday and has a duration of 1 week, or any round number of weeks, will continue through all Sundays and into Monday at the time that I set work to start on Monday.

How do I make a week in my situation last only 6 working days? (IE how can I start a task that will take one week, start on a Monday and have it end on Saturday at the close of business?) Obviously tasks that are constrained to start directly after this task that end on Saturday evening I would like them to start the next Monday since my work week is Mon-Sat.

Thanks for your time.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Microsoft Project 2007 Work Week Defiition

Just to clarify, if you have a task with the Project standard calendar with a duration for 1 week and start it on a Monday, it will finish on that weeks Friday. If you then assign a task that is start to finish constrained to the first task, it will start on the next Monday after the first task finished the previous Friday. My problem is that since I changed the calendar, the tasks run through the non working days and up to the start of business to the next day.

OK, so, I'm in Computer Science (IT) so I have an entire course on how to use Microsoft Project 2007. They make us buy a little how-to book. I'm following that book as an homework.

So here is the problem. From the Resource Sheet, I choose a resource. Then, I go to Tools -> Change Working Time. I then click on the tab "Work Week". Then, I create a new exception for the resource. Then, in the boxes next to it, in the drop boxes, there's calendar to set when it begins and where it ends, right? Each time that I want to set the end day, Microsoft Project 2007 crashes automatically. It happens sometimes on the start day too.

Anyone can help with that?

P.S Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint are installed too, but in French. Project 2007 is in English.

Dear all,
I have included tasks in a project with theorethical starting dates.
Now if I go to tracking & I input the actual start, my bar representing the duration of my task on the GANTT chart will be shifted accordingly.

What i need to know is is there a way that i could see on my gantt chart both the original & actual bars one under the other so i can have a visual comparision of the shifting in my project after i correct by putting actual start values...

Hello, Vista forums experts! Got a fairly simple question but I wanted expertise before I proceeded. Here's the basics:

1. I am running Vista Home Edition SP1 and Office 2007 Professional. Everything is fully up-to-date with patches, etc.

2. In the summer, I installed Office 2007 Professional that works perfectly (or as perfect as it can be).

3. Two months ago, I took a college course that required Microsoft Project 2007 Professional to be installed on my PC as a 60-day trial.

4. The course has ended and I want to uninstall ONLY Project, but I am worried that the uninstallation may strip away parts or features of Office that I do NOT want to uninstall. (ie: Word, Excel, Outlook, etc...)

5. Is it safe to uninstall or should I just leave it on my PC? (It's not like I'm hurting for the hard disk space).

Any thoughts or methods?

Thanks so much!

Hello, I have a user here who cannot open all project files. Upon trying to open it, Project 2007 crashes. When opening it again, the attached screen shot shows up. I have started project first, then removed the file from the disabled items list, and it still crashes. Everyone else is able to open this file. I have saved the file to his desktop, still crashes. I have logged on as myself on his computer, still crashes. I uninstalled Symantec Endpoint Protection, still crashes. I uninstalled, cleaned the registry, then reinstalled Project, still crashes. I updated the rest of his Office suite to 2007, with service pack 2, still crashes. I installed service pack 2 for Project, still crashes. I have run Microsoft diagnostics, but it doesnt find anything. So I have not been able to figure this out, and I have run out of ideas. I want to avoid as much as possible a full rebuild on this machine because of all the user settings and software that he has installed on this. Does anyone have any other suggestions as to what might be causing this to crash? Thank you

A few years ago I got a copy of MS Project Standard 2007 from my daughter's school which I installed and activated on my new office PC when I built it, using a one time only product key (Academic Promotion).
(FYI - upon careful reading of the license I saw that the software is for a current student or teacher - or a family member of a qualifying student, which was true at the time and is still true until May of this year)

Now I am considering upgrading this PC to Windows 10 in a clean install.

My understanding is that I will lose Project 2007. I will not be able to activate it again on my "new" PC and I will have to revert back to my previous Project program or buy a new/old copy of 2007 (and factor this additional cost into my decision making).
Am I correct?

Second question: since I already have the installation media, is there a way to just pay Microsoft for a single license - new product key without having to go through the whole dance of buying another DVD?
I'm not interested in newer versions, and especially not interested in paying $25/m for Project 365.

I have old and new reference products (dictionaries etc.) some of which are only compatible with Windows98

I have both XP and Vista installed on two seperate hard drives and am switching between them using the bios.

I downloaded Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 (both 64 bit and 32 bit) but couldn't get either working under either operating system.

Apparently Vista home premium isn't supported, but it's also telling me that Windows XP Home Edition (Version 2002, Service Pack 3) is not a supported environment when I try and install it, and I don't understand why since it's listed as being supported at the Virtual PC Support page.

I feel like the only way I'm going to be able to get all the software I want running at the same time is to build a second PC and run them side by side.

Surely there's an easier, less expensive and more economical solution?

Every step I take towards the solution seems to move me back two, so help would be very appreciated. Truly.

I know how to use bullets, but if you tab in the bullets, it will stay tabbed throughout the entire document unless you set up tabbed bullets again. Basically what I am asking is after you do a tabbed bullet, how do you go back to aligning the bullets left again?

A:How to make bullets work in Microsoft Word 2007

Try shift-tab instead of Backspace to shift the tab to the left.

I am having a problem with MS Project 2007 crashing whenever you try and perform a function within it. The application will load, an will even allow you to connect to your Project Server. However, whenever you try to do anything beyond that (ex: open a project schedule), the application will crash.

I have tried repairing, and re-installing Project. I have also tried un-installing & re-installing all of Office (with reboots in-between each step, just to be sure). Project has all of the available updates installed, including the Office 2007 SP1. It is running on a WinXP machine.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Save the file in the Microsoft Project Database format:
1. Open your problem file (it may help to turn off automatic calculation if the file is reluctant to open).
2. Select File/Save As...
3. Save as type: Project Database (*.mpd) then click Save.
4. Close the file.

I have a scheduling problem which my lack of experience with MS Project won't allow me to resolve.
My project is scheduled from the start. The project is effectively the work of a small team over the course of a year.
I have added to my plan:

Tasks (approx 350)
Constraints (only the bare minimum where tasks are actually fixed (meetings, events ,etc))
Resources (people only, no real materials to consider)
At this stage the vast majority of the work within the project occurs (as you would expect) at the beginning, or; “As Soon As Possible”.
Given that the work within the project is for a small team, most of the resources appear to be massively over allocated.
I have an idea of when I want the work to be completed during the year but have attempted and discarded the option of setting “Start No Earlier Than” or Finish No Later Than” constraints on my tasks as because:

Doing so still didn’t give me the schedule I wanted (was still over allocated even after levelling)
I want my plan to be as flexible as possible as I move forward. It may well be that some work finishes ahead of schedule and if I’ve set a SNET constraint on a task purely to give an indication of when I think it will/should happen, my plan won’t be able to move accordingly.
Most articles I’ve read on the matter suggest that over-constraining is a bad idea, probably due to the point raised above.
I want MS Project to schedule my tasks for me – I really thought that this was pa... Read more

Hi herebutlost,

Your 1. above says you have used levelling, did you do it manually over the whole project, did you clear previous attempts first ?
Important, did you restrict Levelling to only within slack (if so then remove that restriction).

I suggest this because Levelling is specifically to remove over-allocations.

I am now at the point where I can log on to the default site created PWA (Project Web Access). What I would like to finally get to is create a site called "company name" and be able to connect to it with either Project Pro 2007 or thru Web Access.

I inserted my installation DVD and tried a Repair. No joy.

I've tried to start Project in Safe Mode. No joy.

OK, so the solution was pleasantly simple.

I uninstalled Project 2007 and reinstalled it, using my (one-time) product key.
It installed, worked fine, and was activated immediately. It even retained all of my settings preferences and previous files list from before.
(You call that an uninstall? Yikes!)

Office 2003 had a brief hiccup after uninstalling Project 2007, but it was resolved internally quickly.

Very weird, but all is good now.

Hi all. My daughter's school offered students a free copy of MS Office Project Pro 2007. She has no use for it but I do, so I snagged it along with the installation product key.

I installed it on my current desktop to check it out - make sure I can open my old Project 98 files, etc. Works great! But I have not activated it yet (22 more starts to go!).

This version has a One Installation on One Machine license.

Now I plan on building a new machine in the next couple of months and I will want Project 2007 on that machine. So my question is: should I wait and install & activate once I'm on the new machine?

Some high end programs have an option to deactivate the installation on the old machine and reactivate on the new machine, allowing only one installation on one computer. Is this the case with Office progs? Or are they serious: installed on one computer - give it away with the computer when you upgrade?

Educate me please!

A:MS Office Project 2007 Pro Activation query

Dear TVeblen

Let me quote you Microsoft Software License Terms (MSLT) for 2007

15. REASSIGN TO ANOTHER DEVICE. You may reassign the license to a
different device any number of times, but not more than one time every 90
days. If you reassign, that other device becomes the “licensed device.”
If you retire the licensed device due to hardware failure, you may
reassign the license sooner.

Thus, IMHO you shouldn't have any troubles reassigning this copy to another device.
There is no procedure for MS OFFICE deactivation. One should simply uninstall software from first computer and then reinstall and activate it on the second.
Should you ever experience any troubles, you can always reactivate vie phone.

There are no other macros in the template and I can't find any VBA programing where I can change the form name to File List. I do not get a macro name where the error is, so it must be in an embedded macro, but I can't find it for the life of me. Need to solve this before I go nuts! Help!!

Hello again everyone. I apologize in advance for the long post, my primary question starts and ends at the bold font way down there if you wanna skip to it.

I am going to start working on a way to combine all of our half a dozen excel sheets and separate, inconsistently named customer lists into one single file. My first idea is to use access as I have (extremely limited) experience with it. What I need to figure out is exactly HOW I am going to combine these excel sheets into one file.

The idea here is that I need to be able to track; Customer name/address, what we pick up or deliver to them, and individual records for every stop we do at that customer.
As it stands right now we have 6-7 different sheets that cover the various services we provide. Each one however is listed like vertically:

Customer Name/Address
*Price code(s)*
Date of pickup/amount picked up

As an example we might have something that looks like this:

Company X
01.01.11 125
01.02.11 250
01.03.11 120
(insert any number of pickups here)

So on and so forth with each different customer starting immediately below the last pickup. New pickups are entered by inserting a row, thus shifting everything else down. This results in many hundreds, on some lists a couple thousand rows.
The only way they are kept in order at the moment is that they are in alphabetical order. This is the way the previous manager did things in Excel. Needless to say it does not do us very good when attempting to obtain various ... Read more

How do you insert dependences in Microsoft Project without changing the finish dates?

How would you put it if you say for example that "find similar football coaches" is dependent on "sending an e-mail to coach" finishing first?

I have Microsoft Project 98 and an older version (4.0). Project 98 is an upgrade so requires that I either have and older version installed or that I provide proof. Well here's the kicker....4.0 is on floppy and all I now have is disk 1 and my new laptop doesn't have a floppy drive. I've tried putting the floppy in a networked floppy drive but the installation claims it doesn't see the files. I also copied the files to my hard drive in a folder as well as to a CD. Nothing is working. Can you help me get past this?

A:Microsoft Project 98

Man, this is a glitch! New PCs w/o floppy drives may be a pain for a lot of folks in similar situations.

Seems you have tried every logical approach...and that you'd need a full install of version 4.0 to do the ugrade. Any way you can find the other floppies for 4.0, do an install, and then go from there?

I'm interested to hear if there is some work around for this...academic, really, but interesting problem.

I am using Office Professional Plus 2007 on Windows 7. I am syncing with iCloud.

Today while I was modifying an appointment, I suddenly lost all my appointments in the day/week/month view. I can still see them in the "All appointments" view.

Here is what I have tried:
run diagnostics
started outlook with the following switches: /cleanview, /resetfolders, /safemode,
reset filters on views
but the problem still exists. I should also mention when I reinstalled, my data was still there, so maybe there is something corrupt in my profile?

Can anyone help? Please! I have turned off syncing for my iPhone with the iCloud for the time being because I am terrified I am suddenly going to lose my calendar on my iPhone and then I will be screwed :-(

When trying to cut and paste cells from Excel 2003 into a Micrososft Project task list. (This project is published on a project central 2000 server). The CPU on the local computer hangs (100% utilization) The desktop version of the Project software is 2002 standard. The operating system is Windows XP SP1. This functionality has been used in the past and was previously working. No upgrades or changes have been made to the server environment. Copying text from the formula bar(excel) to the text line for the task entry does work, but is too cumbersome to make 100's of entries daily.

I searched Microsoft's support site and did not any knowledge base articles that address this issue.

The Project application can be stopped via the task manager, but changes have not been updated to the project central server.

Quick question for project users. I'm updating hourly work (ie 4 or 8 hours etc.) in the project (the work column) and it only changes the duration column automatically when I mark the task complete. What am I doing wrong?

I have completed 2 documents on Microsoft Project 2003.

One of the documents will open but the other will not and comes up with the following message.

"Project cannot open file.

Check that the file name and the path is correct

Check that the file format is recognised by project

Project files saved in a version earlier than the microsoft project 98 cant be opened.

If your file is from an earlier version, open it in that version, click save as (file menu) and save in MPX format.
Open the MPX file in another version of project. When you use this method, project data is imported, but formatting is lost."

Dont fully understand what this is saying, but i have completed both documents on my PC using the same software.

Please Help
