First of all the support section on Lenovos website must be the most confusing I've ever experienced. I can't find anywhere to send a simple email asking a question. When I enter my product serial at http://support.lenovo.com/ I cant use either email or chat because for some reason those options are not available for my product!I did try to call them, but they don't understand anything. No technical knowledge. So my last option was to register for this forum and hope someone can help me. (Even the forum didn't seem to be updated as there was no section for my model, ideapad 700, only up to 500) Anyway my question is that my backlit keyboard is not working for my Lenovo 700 15ISKYes I fully understand I have to activate it by Fn + Spacebar. But nothing happens. My spacebar has the symbol for backlit keyboard. I was confused at first because I've read that some configurations of Ideapad 700 15ISK does not have backlit keyboard. My Machine Type Model: 80RU001KMX I have tried updating drivers, bios and windows 10. Nothing helped. One thing that are confusing to me is that in many guides/posts for other Lenovo products I've read. "Lenovo settings" should have an icon for the backlit keyboard, so that you whithin that app/program could activate it. My Lenovo settings app does not have this icon. It has lots of options to configure most of the functions for my ideapad 700, but nowhere in this program can I find anything about backlit keyboard. I dont know if its removed for Ideapad 700, or in the Win 10 version of Lenovo settings?Anyway my spacebar cleary indicates my keyboard should have backlit keyboard as it has the icon printed on the spacebar. I'm starting to think it might be a hardware failure, and if so I will return it and get a new ideapad 700 computer.Read other answers

I was just wondering, as the title says, if it's possible to buy a backlit keyboard from Lenovo or any other place for my laptop? If not possible to buy from Lenovo directly, any other suggestions?
I bought a Lenovo Yoga 500-14IBD (14" screen, to confirm) and I am pretty happy with it for the amount it cost, but ideally it would also have a backlit keyboard. But as this isn't a flag ship or even premium device to an extent this feature is not present - even though backlit keyboards in my opinion shouldn't just be exclusively found in premium devices.
I'm not big on customising computers more than just simple things like upgrading the RAM but I would definitely consider installing a backlit keyboard in this laptop if the installation wasn't too difficult and the keyboard itself isn't too expensive.
Moderator comment: Model added to subject for clarity.
Unfortunately, each keyboard is usually made for that specific build line. Unless the Yoga 500 14 has a backlit keyboard as an option, you'll be likely unable to find one, unless someone modifies them (which in itself is very difficult due to the thin profile of keyboards nowadays).Read other 6 answers

Hello, On occasion, the keyboard of my Lenovo Y700 will cease accepting input. It however is still being fed power due to the persistence of the backlight and lights of the Num Lock and Caps Lock keys. I can still navigate with my mousepad. Some time after the keyboard locks out, the computer will slowly crash, e.g. my applications begin displaying the "Not Responding" dialog, and eventually the computer boots to a Lenovo Safe Mode screen where my keyboard still cannot receive input. I then shut the computer off using the power button (which makes a strange popping noise coming from inside the computer) and reboot. The computer then works fine. And then the same error happens over and over again. I dealt with it for a little bit since it would happen only once a day or so. But the rate of lockout-crashing has been increasing. My drivers are all up to date. I'm at a loss. This is incredibly frustrating, especially considering the error happens at unpredictable times.Thank you for reading, neitorfuModel Name: Y700-15ISK Laptop (ideapad) Serial #: PF0I44L4 Machine Type: 80NV0026USRead other answers
A few weeks ago I bought a Lenovo Y700 15ISK with Windows 10 already preinstalled. I've noticed two main problems: the keyboard sometimes stops responding (this happens mainly when I am gaming, it happened firstly with Fallout 3 and then with Overwatch). When it happens I can't do anything but force shutting down the machine. It had been happening for a week or so, now it's been a while since it last occured. Second one, is that I keep on getting random BSODs while doing not much intensive activities. It's been happening once a day for two weeks now, and it's getting annoying. One thing that I can note, is that it's always happening while I'm surfing the web (Facebook, Youtube, etc). It has been preannunced once or twice by the screen blinking black for less than a second. The error message last time was "system_service_exception, igdkmd64.sys".If you need more information, just tell me.Thank you in advance.Read other answers

Hello everybody, just purchased a Z50-70 and am pleased so far. However, the A**zon product specifications stated it would have a backlit keyboard (bought the 59424714). Up to now I have not been able to switch it on (Fn+space doesn't work) and/ or find any settings for it. Can anybody help? Thanks in advance!
Make sure all drivers are installed and up to date, also check bios settings just to double check everything is ok in there.

I have a new Dell XPS 13 Linux edition (this one) and immediately installed Linux Mint 18 on it, wiping the Ubuntu 14.04 which was shipped with the it.
I am really confident with it, only the backlight for the keyboard is not working. I have a keyboard light symbol on my F10 key but when I press it, nothing happens. All other features and all other media controls/media keys/screen brightness keys work. When clicking the battery icon in the Linux Mint taskbar, I see 2 controls, one for the keyboard lights brightness and one for the screen brightness. When I drag those bars, only the screen brightness is working again.
I also see the settings in /sys/class/leds/dell\:\:kbd_backlight/ (I think that's the config folder for it). The brightness file in this directory contains "1", so as I understand this correctly, this should theoretically work.
As I noted before I immediately installed Linux Mint on it, so I can't say whether it worked before. And this is really the only thing which is not working on the laptop.
I have obviously checked that my ultrabook has backlights with the product number on its back.
Do you have some tips so I can get this to work? Thanks in advance!
I just received my new XPS 13 9350 and the backlit keyboard never worked.. the only light i can see is from the caps lock...
I've no idea whether this is a hardware problem or just some driver problem...
I've tried the BIOS setting but nothing changed. And the Windows Mobility Center didn't show anything about keyboard backlight..
Thank you for writing to us! You can use the F6 key combination to enable or disable backlight.
Hoping this helps!
I have the S50-B-15P model with Windows 10 installed. I never checked if the backlit keyboard worked on Windows 8.1, as soon as I got it I upgraded to Windows 10.
I have installed all the drivers from the Toshiba Windows 10 upgrade page however as before the keyboard works just not backlit!
I opened the eco utility software and checked for the keyboard backlit settings under eco mode however it does not exist and no setting exists in the BIOS either. The keyboard does have the symbol to enable the backlit function on the Z key however pressing FN + Z does nothing.
Does anybody have any ideas on how to fix this? Does the keyboard even have this function or is it faulty?
I have the same problem as its with you
my laptop is Satellite S50T-B1391 which is new just 4 days I check every thing like you Fn+Z is not working the bios is new version and nothing is there also nothing about backlit in eco utility app
I check it in win 8.1 before upgrading and win 10 all have the same problem
I have recently replaced my laptop's bezel. Since then backlit is not working even though the settings are correct. Could this issue be due to bezel replacement. If yes, please suggest how to resolve it
I assume that removed both the keyboard and palm rest first to remove the LCD assembly and finally the LCD bezel. I would go back and check the keyboard and make sure that both the keyboard data and back lite cables are connected correctly. The manual doesn't show a back lit keyboard, but on back lit keyboards there are two cables that will need to be connected.
Hello I am having issues with my HP ENVY x2 - 13-j000na (ENERGY STAR). The keyboard will only work when attached to the screen in a very specific position. Changing the angle of the screen results ini it disconnecting and being unable to reconnect. When not attached to the screen it will not work at all.I still have warranty and would really like this sorted ASAP as it is incredibly annoying. I've tried all the recommendations of updating BIOS and drivers etc and still nothing. Can anyone help? Thanks.
It's a hardware issue and is going to have to be addressed by making a warranty claim. There is no adjustment or quick setting fix we can provide.Read other 3 answers
Hi all, I recently purchased a T460s with some upgrades on the specifications (RAM 16 GB, GPU GeForce 930M and etc.). The initial operating system was set to Windows 7, so I upgraded to Windows 10 64 bit. I manually downloaded all the drivers required for this laptop and windows 10. While everything else runs pretty well, the keyboard backlight does not seem to work. I haven't checked if the backlight works on the previous operating system, so I am unsure if the problem is actually from the hardwares or if the OS was updated wrong. I am pretty sure that this model supports the keyboard backlit function since the space bar has that little image on the left side that (I'm guessing) indicates the function of backlit keyboards. I'm wondering if there are actual drivers that I must intall prior to pressing the (Fn+Spacebar) keys to turn on the backlight, or if there is a problem with my computer. If it's the case of the latter, I am thinking about resetting my laptop (reinstalling windows 10). Being aware of how long it takes to download and install all the necessary components, once I do, is there any method of backing up the computer and after the reset just using that backup to go back to the original state where I have all my programs and data? Thanks.Read other answers
Hello!I've been using my Latitude E6410 for a few years now and it's by far the best laptop I've ever had.Recently, my backlit keyboard stopped working. It's something that you don't appreciate enough until you lose it... :) So I got a new backlit keyboard for it and installed it, but it still doesn't work.I wonder if it could be a problem that's unrelated to the keyboard itself - maybe some motherboard issue / bios bug / whatever. Or maybe the new keyboard I got has its backlit feature broken.Any ideas? Please note it's been my computer for a while now, so I know all about how to activate it (alt+right arrow / bios setting). also note that it doesn't work even before the OS loads, where it used to work perfectly earlier.Thank you very much!Read other answers

For some reason, I cannot get the backlit keyboard to work on my new X1 Carbon Touch. It lights up upon powering up and then will not turn on no matter how many times I hit the space bar. I don't see an option to enable/disable anywhere either. Am I missing a driver? Thanks in advance.
Go to Solution.
Be sure to hold the Fn key while pressing the Spacebar to turn on the backlit keyboard. If you have already tried this to no avail, then I would recommend checking some BIOS settings. To enter BIOS, reboot the machine. When it is powering back up and you see the Lenovo splash screen, tap the Enter key repeatedly. A menu should appear. When it does, press F1 to enter BIOS. Once here, navigate to Config ? Keyboard/Mouse and check the settings of Fn and Ctrl Key swap and Fn Key Lock. For purposes of this test, make sure they are both set to Disabled. Once done, press F10 to save and exit. The machine should now boot normally. Log in to Windows and try to activate the backlight again and see if that works.
Best of luck,

I am a new user and I am really desperate to get the backlit keyboard working on my Satellite P850, normally it wouldn't be a problem but I spend a lot of time in low light situations and it would be so very helpful to me, it was also a feature that swayed me to purchase a model laptop with the ability to have a backlit keyboard.
If anyone could help me,I would be forever grateful
When I purchased the laptop it cames with Windows 8.1. I upgraded to an SSD myself and put Windows 8.1 back on and almost immediately upgraded to Windows 10. Sadly, I do not remember if the backlit keyboard worked on 8.1 with the SSD. I assume I am missing some driver or something simple like that but I have had my laptop identified on the HP site and installed all the drivers for it. If I recall correctly pressing F5 should do the trick but it does not. Just an FYI, when I hit caps lock and the mute button it lights up orange as it should.Read other answers
This morning my HP Omen arrived in the mail, fully functional with everything in tact. After I left my laptop to install the updates from the HP Support Assistant (One of those updates being a BIOS update), I came back to find my computer restarted and my backlit keyboard not working. After trying to use the HP OMEN Control to fix the keyboard, I found that the keyboard will flash briefly when I click "Apply To All Zones", but then immediately turns off again. Is there any way to fix this Backlit Keyboard issue ir can we see an update in the near future that fixes this issue?
Found a solution! Apparently, the keyboard shuts down after the BIOS update, so in order to turn it back on just push F5.Read other 10 answers
I've tried downloading the latest bios and resetting the keyboard options in OMEN CONTROL as well as pressing the F5 button but nothing works. The speaker lights are working fine and can still be customized through CONTROL however the rest of the keyboard won't light up regardless of whatever color or zones I choose through OMEN. I've read in the forum that other users have had this problem after a bios update and clicking th F5 has worked for some users but it still has not for me. My laptop just fell out of the one year warranty and it would be disheartening to lose the ability of a backlit keyboard for a $2000 laptop just because of a bios update. Any advice is appreciated! If your computer is a "desktop" computer, it should be a "no-brainer".The USB port on your computer would supply power to the keyboard to run the back-lights. But, since you have a notebook, you'll have to find a keyboard that physically matches the size of your current keyboard, and then hope that the notebook's motherboard will supply electrical power to the back-lights.This sounds like a tough task! Hey CommunityI encountered a rather strange problem yesterday when my wife turned on her Lenovo we bought a month ago. It is possible to enter the PIN at the Win10 startup page, but as soon as we enter Windows, no(!) key works. Neither Keypad nor Keyboard. We tried:- accessing the Bios, which works and in which the Keyboard works normally- deleting the Keyboard PS/2 Driver from the Hardware Setting Menue, which results in a re-installation of this driver but still the error remains- plugging in a USB keyboard which interestingly receives power and the volume buttons works, but here the same, the keys do not function (and this one also does not work at the windows pin screen).- waited until Win10 installed all updates, even the anniversary update, but still nothing changed (was my last hope. D'oh!). Right now I'm quite lost and don't see why things do not work. If water was spilled on or in the keyboard theres not much that can be fixed on it. it will have to be replaced and checked out to make sure nothing else got damaged by the water such as the motherboard etc.
