I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system
It's worked out well for many of us in the past.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)
Just select 32 bit or 64 bit 7. Fabe http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...roduct=3966049&#Read other 4 answers
Hello, I have a HP Compaq Presario CQ40-314TU Notebook. Currently, Windows Vista is installed on the notebook. I am planning to upgrade the notebook to Windows 7 Professional Edition. However, when I searched for drivers for Windows 7, I did not find any on HP website. I searched as follows: 1. Visited http://support.hp.com/us-en2. Entered Compaq Presario CQ40-314TU Notebook PC in the search box3. Selected Software and Drivers from the left menu4. Clicked Go5. Selected Windows in the Operating system dropdown list6. In the Version dropdown list, I only had two options; Windows Vista (32-bit) and Windows Vista (64-bit). Even selecting one of these options displays:No software or drivers are available for this product with the selected operating system. Please make a different selection, or visit the product homepage. Please tell me the link for installing drivers for this notebook for Windows 7 Professional Edition. Regards,Aziz
Hi, As you can see, no available link for Windows 7. Please run Windows 7 updates FEW TIMES then post back missing driver(s). Regards.Read other 1 answers
I just bought a laptop yesterday, Compaq Presario CQ40-340TU. It came with Windows Vista Starter OS. Because of the limitations with networking, I need to install Windows XP on this laptop now. I have my own installer of Windows XP and can't afford to purchase a different version of Windows Vista so that's not an option for me.
I really hope someone can help me find drivers for Windows XP for the following. I'm not even sure if they're the right specifications for my laptop model but I found them on a site selling the same model and from the HP product information page.
I already have nLite and I'm ready to integrate SATA drivers with my WinXP installer but I don't know which drivers to include. Please, help me!

I've already found the WinXP drivers for the graphics adapter and ethernet/NIC.
Basing it on the list of drivers available online for this laptop, the most important driver I need is for the chipset.
Also, for the SATA drivers that I should integrate in my WinXP installer, that I still need to find.
I don't know where to find them. I hope someone here can help me, pretty please.
I can't seem to find the system drivers Windows 7 for "Compaq CQ40-517TU" I mean the chipset, audio, video and important drivers. I already look for drivers on HP sites but only HP bundled drivers are available. There is no drivers for system. Need help.

It seems like the BSOD is chasing me...
This time it's about my own laptop.
Its a Compaq cq40 and It's been acting very strange since a couple of weeks.
Suddenly a BSOD will come up and restar my computer.... but I can still use it...
I'd like to fix it before trying to format the entire disc....
I'm posting the dump files...
Thanks in advance!
It seems like you may have bad memory and reinstalling windows will not fix this issue.
What you should try to do is get a copy of MemTest.
Burn it to a CD and check your RAM. Let it test about 3 times, as if it passed 100% once it may not be an accurate result!
Post back if you need more help or if you are ready to continue.
Ever since I've bought this computer (beginning of 2009) my Compaq Presario CQ40 has been extremely slow. I don't really run much software on it, but it takes around 10-15 minutes to start up all processes.
I run Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Firewall as security, but it previously had Trend Micro Internet Security in 2009.
I do Disk Cleanups, a full defrag through CMD and a chkdsk /r but it's still painfully slow.
The CPU fan is nearly always running all of the time, and after a quick Google this seems to be a problem in the Presario?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have some problem here, i have install Windows 7 and i got missing driver name "Base System Device"
What driver for that Base System Device, and how can i got that driver for Windows 7.

First of all, are all your peripheral devices (printers etc) working?
If they are is there anything in your pc that is not working?
Hi! My computer is Compaq Presario CQ40. It's 8 years old and can only be used when directly plugged in to the electric socket. It's been working fine until last night when it suddenly shut off. At first I thought that maybe the plug was accidentally pulled out from the source but when I tried to plug it in again, the light indicator beside the power supply in the unit itself won't turn on. I tried to unplug and plug the charger adapter but nothing happened. May I know what could have possibly happened? Is there a way for me to check the possibile problem? I know that my laptop is very old, but I still find it very useful and I wish to continue to use it in the future. Hope to hear from you soon.Thank you!
If you are lucky the AC adapter has just died. To understand more, no light comes on the adapter brick when you plug it in the wall and no light comes on next to the AC jack when you plug into the laptop? Where do you live? On an 8 year old laptop you can find a useable "3rd party" charger for a few dollars.Read other 1 answers

Hello all.Just as the title said.
My Notebook is HP/Compaq CQ40-323AX. When I seed the windows7, I love it at once. And I have installed win7 to virtual pc. But I want to install win7 to my notebook but not virtuall pc. So some problems occured. It's the driver. Because the win7 was based on the vista, I think it may run well when useing the vista drivers (The drivers were downloaded at www.hp.com.cn)
Who can tell me I can do as I think? It's my thought right?
Or someone can give me a better way!
How is the performance under Vista Ultimate? If you are using Vista Ultimate there should be no problem upgrading or even 'Fresh' installing windows 7.
Yes, a lot of Vista drivers work with Windows 7 (just right-click the setup file and in properties select Compatability for Vista). This works about 90% of the time, if installing build 7068 you may not even need to update your drivers.
NOTE: You will need to backup you existing files (pictured/documents/music/videos etc) and make sure you've got an installation disk for Vista in case the upgrade/install fails.
P.S sorry for the late reply

I think most, if not all, of the Vista drivers will work on Windows 7. Actually, when I upgraded a Vista laptop some years ago most of the drivers were included in Windows 7 so you may not need all. I'm trying to repair/reformat a laptop. It's a Compaq laptop, Presario CQ40. It originally had Windows XP but started giving a blue screen. I can't get anything to work now. Windows won't boot, all it gives is a registry error (software/hive). When I try to boot from the Windows XP disc, it starts the XP boot load, but right before it gets to XP Recovery Repair screen, it gives another blue screen. It says "Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF7C1E524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). I don't know what to try. Several internet searches have suggested turning the SATA to Legacy in the BIOS, but I have nothing in the BIOS that relates to SATA. I'm stuck. Please help!
Blue screens can be caused y a couple of failing devices; HDD and RAM are most common. Substituting system components with good ones is a cheap way to solve problems like this. It's easiest to start with the system ram and you can easily eliminate the faulty component that way.
when i play farmville (facebk) i noticed that my laptop is slow. while my ram is 3gb already, dual core and im running vista business. do u think it has s/thing to do with vista??
My wife plays Farmville on my XP laptop that has just 1GB of RAM and an older Athlon64 CPU and it runs great.
Vista = resource hog.
Pardon me if my problem sounds little funny.
I have Compaq Presario CQ40, windows 7 laptop.3GB RAM,320 GB Hard Disk.
Since past few days i m facing this problem, whenever i put on my laptop, and when the desktop opens, my laptop hangs in another 1 or 2 minutes. i have tried this around 5-6 times and still there isn't any improvement. i have also tried to set my computer to an earlier restore point, and have done this twice, still no improvement.
Shall i run recovery, i m afraid of data loss.
Can any 1 guide me what could be the cause, and what could be the solution.

First check for all the Win XP drivers for your hardware.
You can check your HP/compaq PC here:

NOTE: Please read this thread fully.
If your Win XP CD, does not support your Sata Controller, you will need to load drivers to uses at F6.

Laptop is a Compaq Presario 2500 (2596US)
XP Pro, SP2
I recently re-installed the operating system. I downloaded and installed all the latest drivers from Compaq's website. My two problems are:
Audio. The volume up/down buttons function, but the mute button and light do not function. Additionally, the volume at max level isn't very loud. I have installed audioSP23455, Conextant Audio Driver for Windows XP, from Compaq's site. It is the only driver listed when I search for Presario 2596US notebook. The driver does not list the 2596 as an applicable model...
Where can I get a different audio driver?
Wireless. The wireless connect/disconnect button and light do not function. I have installed broadcomwlanSP27942, Broadcom WLAN Network Adapers Driver for Windows XP, from Compaq's site. I am able to detect and connect to my wireless router, but I would like the disconnect button to function.
I bought this NX with Vista Home loaded and I had a copy of XP Pro that I wanted to load. I booted from CD and deleted the Vista Partition and then created a new one and loaded XP Pro. Everything is fine except that I am missing 5 Drivers for XP and I can't seem to locate them. Here they are.
PCI Simple Communications Controller
SM Bus Controller
Can anyone help me to locate these drivers for XP running on the Compaq SR-5010-NX
Thanks in advance

Finding all of the proper drivers for the Compaq SR2039X is a pain. The computer came out about 2 years ago, and I am sure there are thousands of people using the model.
I have uploaded the working NVIDIA graphics card driver, audio driver,
and ethernet driver.
Why is it a pain? HP seems to have the drivers posted on their website for both Windows Xp and Vista: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us&submit=Go%20%BB
I've removed the link to MegaUpload, as we cannot verify the contact on the download and since the drivers seem to already exist on a trusted website I don't see the need for someone to risk a potentially dangerous download.

Here's a couple ways to try
1. go to this Compaq support site. Check the Software and Downloads task. Then enter product number (note they also giveinstructions on how to find that problem number)
2. If above fails
Make sure all your devices are connected and powered on
Click Start->Run, enter: msinfo32. Click the + sign next to Components to expand it
Click Problem Devices. Anything appear?
If yes, click on it, Ctrl-A to select all, Ctrl-C to copy it, Ctrl-V to paste into next post

I'm trying to install debian in a compaq presario v6148ea. Compaq does not offer support for anything but windows :suspiciou Where could I find the drivers?
By now I have the network card and the wireless working, but I have no sound, and i don't know to which extent the graphic card is being used to render what I see, I wouldn't like to put too much stress in the processor unnecessarily.
Any tips on finding the drivers, installing them or knowing the drivers I may need (I don't know the current situation about the graphics) are welcome. Any URL or pointer about where should I search for drivers, tutorials, information, help or anything is also welcome. I am completely clueless on this one.
Thank you very much.
Start by making your list of devices from their Windows 2000 list of drivers for the v6148EA, not the VISTA list.
My computer was acting slow so I reformatted the computer a fresh install of everything. I forgot about how Compaq didn't give me any installation disks with their computer. So needless to say I'm looking for 3 drivers.

I ran across a 56k modem (pci) I'm looking for the drivers to it.
I got it used, I know it came from a compaq, but I'm not sure which one.
Theres a sticker on the modem that says: compaq computer corp. s8104. and theres a bar code on the sticker(probably compaqs part #)
Theres also a sticker that says CIS technology inc. series M1-5614PM3 HIGH Speed fax modem(I'm guessing this is the actual model#)
Compaq's site sucks, and I can't find anything on CIS tech. If anyone can find me the drivers for this modem, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys wonder if any of you can help you with a query I have....
I am helping a friend with a Compaq Presario C500 (C542EA) laptop, essentially it came with Windows Vista and we want to run XP on it.
I am having some serious issues locating XP drivers for
Does anyone know what hardware this machine runs for these devices? Having hunted around the internet I am hitting brick walls attempting to find XP drivers for this machine. I am hoping this is not a situation where Vista needs to be reloaded on to the machine in order to get it up and running!
It seems that the HP website does have audio and modem drivers (but not wireless NIC) however when i have run the drivers it states that its not for the hardware installed!
Any help would be appreciated!

Try the Wireless drivers from the Vista drivers section, it may support other versions of Windows too: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=2093&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=ca&lang=en&product=3357417
Also are you sure that its a C542EA, double check the sticker on the bottom.

Here is the support and software site for the Compaq Presario CQ61-231TU laptop.
You should add and save this site in your browser favorites/bookmarks list so you can readily refer to it when needed.
The drivers and downloads section has drivers for Windows Vista and Windows 7, but not for Windows XP.
Did you downgrade that laptop to Windows XP?
That laptop appears to have either an Intel or a NVIDIA graphics device, so we need to confirm which one it has.
Go into the Device Manager and then advise the names of the entries that have a yellow ? next to them.

I purchased a Compaq Presario A900 which came with Vista Home. As I am not comfortable with Vista, I want to shift back to Win XP but even after searching a lot, failed to find the drivers for the same.
Can you guys please help me to find the complete set of drivers for my notebook. Its very urgent and I will be highly obliged.
A900 is the series number for your Compaq Presario laptop. Select the correct model number from this list and then advise what it is.
If you set up Vista with the Windows classic or standard mode instead of the aero mode, it'll look a lot more like XP and you'll probably be more comfortable using it. That's how I set up my Compaq Presario SR5450F desktop when I bought it last year with Vista. A couple of the devices didn't have XP drivers available, and the hard drive is SATA instead of EIDE, so I couldn't downgrade to XP if I wanted to.
