'Windows cannot install required files' on Flash disk install to SSD

Q: 'Windows cannot install required files' on Flash disk install to SSD

Hi everyone

I've built a brand new PC and decided that I would like to install windows 7 64 bit on my SSD, I got a disk+key from my university before christmas so that'd i'd be ready once i'd built it.

I built the PC yesterday and realised that I'd left my external DVD drive at my university accommodation, I'm at my parents house for christmas break so that's a few weeks left. I can't really wait that long so I used my parents laptop (which I'm posting from now) to turn the disk into an .iso and use the microsoft USB utility to make a USB stick that i could install from.

However when I tried the install gets to 'installing features' and gives 'windows cannot install required files' error code 0x80070570 I looked the code up on google which sent me to a lot of threads here, so far I've tried:

Taking all but 1 stick of ram out and the graphics card.
Reseting the bios to default
Installing again without rebooting after error.
using cmd to select the right partition

Nothing has worked, please help me I'm losing my mind

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

Just to clarify, are you having trouble getting the ISO onto the USB drive? Im not sure whether that is your issue, or the installation from the USB. What size is the USB drive?

Can you have a look at this tutorial?

I have been trying to do a clean install of windows 7 and I am now getting this message. I have probably done a clean install using the exact same disk 5 times before. I've tried formatting the hard drive and re partitioning. This is a custom build.

The thing that is interesting to me is that I then tried to do a clean install using a vista disk that I have, and I get a similar message.

However I am able to install Xp pro just fine. I've also tried switching out memory as well.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

A couple threads mention adjusting RAID settings in the BIOS but I see nothing regarding RAID in my bios.

This is what is happening. A friend gave me his DELL Inspririon 531 2007 Desktop. It has a pirated copy of 7 ultimate x64 (which I am not sure if this supports 64 bit). Prior to looking into how old the machine was, I was able to install 8.1 64 bit. But it wouldn't allow me to install any drivers from the DELL site. Said that the machine wasn't compatible. So, I tried with Windows 7 32 bit and I am getting this error. I have deleted all partitions, but now, I do not have that option when I choose Custom-advanced. There is no Delete option.

A few times I got the error at 5% other times at over 60%. What can I do to get this to install? It is a legit DVD of windows. Why would it have allowed 8.1 to successfully install now it is doing this? What files are missing? I have tried both deleting the partitions and not deleting. Same result.

Hey guys!

I have a new ASUS ROG G751JT-DH72 laptop, and I have been trying to install Windows 10 and Ubuntu on it. It came with Windows 8.1, so I upgraded to 10, then did a clean install of 10. Version was Home 64 bit.

That went reasonably well: only thing after the clean re-install was that on boot, the screen did nothing but flash on and off. I found out that I could get it unstuck by mashing F12, and that disabling fast boot fixes the problem permanently. My cleanly installed fresh Windows 10 worked perfectly.

I then installed Ubuntu 15.04 in the small space that I had left for it on the SSD, and gave it the whole 1 TB drive for my "home" folder.

Afterwards, Windows was gone. Mind you, the bootloader still showed up in the Grub menu, but when I tried to launch it, it told me something was wrong and I had to recover it. I tried, but couldn't: bootrec /scanos told me it found no Windows installations.

So I figured: second attempt! I rebooted using the Windows 10 DVD, and during parititioning nuked everything and created new partitions from scratch.

About 90% through the "Getting files ready" part, it failed. Error:

"Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x8007025D"

I see some people here had the same thing, but not on laptops as far as I can tell. Anybody out there who has any idea how to fix this? I tried:

I have been using Windows Deployment services for sometime now so the environment is not new to me. For some reason every new WIM that I build now, when I try to apply it using WDS I get this error.

My Capture Process
Install A Clean Version of Windows
Configure system how I want it
sysprep into audit mode to remove user account that I built during setup
sysprep OOBE and shutdown
Run Imagex.exe /capture c: c:\imagename.wim "My Image Name" /compress fast /verify

I get the capture with no errors and upload to my WDS.

This error used to never be a problem but I am getting it all the time now.

Any idea how to fix?

I bought a new SSD and want to do a clean install on it, however am having problems during the install process and receive the following message:

Windows 8 cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x8007025d
The install images was downloaded from the Microsoft website and I have tried using a USB thumb drive and DVD install disc and both receive the same error. I have used the DVD disc when I originally installed Windows 8 Pro on the same desktop but on an IDE harddrive and believe the disc should still work (i.e. no scratches on it).

Here's how I prepared to install:

1. Unplugged all harddrives except for brand new SSD (Crucial M4 128 GB SSD)
2. Changed bios settings to AHCI (before was on IDE) (using Asus P5k-V motherboard)

I'm not sure what's going on if the harddrive is corrupt, the bios settings need to be tweaked, the drive is incompatible with my motherboard or something else.

Any help would be much appreciated as I don't want to go back to using the IDE drive to boot windows but rather use the new SSD.

TIA

A:recovering windows. old files without backup or install disk

Hi,

The only way I know to restore the deleted files would be to do a data recovery scan using a software like Recuva which I have used to recover peoples deleted photos from a previous windows. It worked really well and recovered most of the lost files.

Here is a link to download Recuva: https://www.piriform.com/recuva

PLEASE NOTE: when performing the scan make sure you check this box that says 'Enable Deep Scan' this will take longer but in the past I was only able to recover any data using this option.

Goodluck I hope this is what you were asking for.

Let us know how you get on.

I can get as far as it finishing the reformat of C: but then it hangs before starting reinstalling XP.

Any ideas? If this is likely to be a hardware problem, can Admin move it and let me know?

There is a way to get it to work, but you will have to copy the files from the XP cd, edit one of the files, then burn it to another cd (and make the cd bootable).

Alternatively, you could contact Gateaway and ask them for a replacement CD and they should be obligated to send you one.

So I have been trying to install windows seven into a hard drive for my friend.
I currently have windows install on my C:, have a separate HD for storage D:, and the third one that my friends wants windows installed into G;.
I am running windows 7 ultimate x64 and im trying to install essentially the same version into the G: drive.
Anyways first run through was going well, then it reset after reaching Completing installationg, but when it restarted it went to Roll back and undid the whole install.
From then on It wont let me install and on the Parition selection on the install screen it just says "Cannot install into this disk. The disk's controller is not enabled in your BIOS."
I have done some searches to try and find a solution to this issue, trying everything but no improvements.
Changed the format of the disk from MBR to GTP and back to MBR.
Looked for bad sectors.
Did start up repair.
Formated and reformated the disk.
Went into the BIOS and switched SATA from ACHI to IDE to Raid even. None of which seemed to make any difference.
Tried 2 different windows 7 x64 ,and one Windows 7 x32 installs all which give me the same error.
But the Disk itself seems to work, I can copy file to and from it, installed Autocad in it and ran it from there. I am no longer sure what to do about this.
Any help is welcome.

Hi there....

may be an idea to clean the cd/dvd rom lens and also make sure the data sides of the discs are completely clean and scratch-free. If need be buy some special cleaning solution and a lint free cloth to clean them.

As you have already tried a different hard disk drive, it's unlikely that both disks are damaged but it's still a possibility. Download the hard drive manafacturer's diagnostic software and then make a bootable cd/floppy out of it then use it to check the integrity of the drives. It may take a little while to complete if the drives have large capacities but it may be helpful in working out whats causing the problems.

The IDE cables are a possible cause too...do they have any signs of damage at all?

I have an Aspire 5742 with Windows Home Premium. I have just replaced the hard drive as it would no longer start up. After I installed the new hard drive I ran the Acronis recovery to copy the drive backup to the new hard drive and it reported complete but when I try to boot the laptop it says bootmgr is missing. So I need to now repair the Windows 7 installation but Acer only supply a factory default option not a Windows 7 installation disc. I don't want to do a factory default as I have a programme installed that will cost $200 per hour in support fees for the software vendor to re-install it again. I contacted Microsoft about getting a Windows 7 disc but they said because it is OEM I have to contact Acer. Between the two of them they sent me around in circles until it was established that neither of the two companies could help me. So what do I do now please?

I just built new system and had same problem. Heres what worked for me. I have the asus a8n32-sli with 2 ethernet ports. One uses marvel drivers and one uses the nvidia chipset dirvers. I went to support.asus.com.tw and put in motherboards, socket type, model on the pull down menus. listed all available downloads and installed the most recent drivers for the marvel ethernet controller and the nvidia chipset driver. I had to download the nvidia drivers on another computer because of course when I tried on my new system they came up corrupt. Burned those to cd and installed. Then I installed ad aware and spybot search and destroy and ran both of those and got rid of the spyware. So far so good. Everything seems to be working. Downloaded pcmark05 and about 6 others with no problems. I could not get pcmark to install and after this I worked on first try. Hope this helps and works for you. sbart47

Basically I would like to do this for all the different USB 3 drivers I come across here at work. It makes my job much easier to add updates and have all the drivers I need right in one place then I can redo systems very quickly if there isn't a current image on hand for the system in question. It would be great if there is a tool that does it but if I could be pointed to a nice guide that does it step by step would be nice too.

The second I would like to do is install from flash to another usb 3 flash drive so that I have a diagnostic USB 3 flash. Fast boot and such whats not to like. It doesn't have to be from the flash install to the universal diagnostic flash but that would be nice to know how to do. The big thing is to get Windows 7 64 bit Enterprise booting and running on any machine that has USB 3 as well as 2. USB 2 isn't a problem but USB 3 is. Again though a tool would be great but a step by step guild would work well too.

I searched through the forums and I didn't want to do any necromancy on old dead threads for questions I have... Read more

A:Have existing install Flash and going to install to USB3 flash.

Anybody out there? So far What I have tried doesn't seem to work. I have been trying RT7 Lite and getting the USB 3 drivers added that way but so far I'm not having any luck. I suppose I could start from scratch instead of taking an existing ISO that has had mods done to it. Just how do I install the USB 3 drivers to the boot part of the flash installer?

So I tried installing sins of a solar empire off my disk and everything went quite well until I tried to actually play the darn thing. seems the .exe files never installed. I'm about to go find some more programs on disks to see if if this is isolated to the game, or if I have a system problem somewhere. here's hoping I'm not going insane.

the hardware seems to be fine, as it ran the disk and installed EVERYTHING else. just trying to figure out what in the sam heck is going on.

Windows 7 has Directx11 already built in, but to play the games developed with DX9 we need to install DX9.

I've been looking around whether It's recommended or even required in windows7, to have windows Service pack 1 installed or not prior installing DX9, and I found no answer.

this question may sound stupid but when you go to download page of for example, C++ redistributable or .NET framework it says that you need SP1 and all the updates installed, so I'm just gessing whether is this the case for DirectX9 as well?

If you can provide some kind of readme, referece or your experience I'll be thankfull to u

Thank you for your explanation!

My present Windows 7 computer has the C: Drive (OS) and two additional storage drives, D & E. When getting reading to do a clean install of Windows 10, is it necessary to electrically remove the storage drives in case of any conflicts, if any, during the installation of Windows 10 or can they remain intact during the clean installation of Windows 10?

A:Removal of storage HDD required for clean install of Windows 10

Removing drives that are not needed for the installation is a prudent move. Else e.g. your bootmgr could end up on a drive where you don't want it.

Hi all,

I just downloaded windows 8 prof from my msdn, and I made a bootable usb stick with WintoFlash and now when I am trying to install I get this message: Windows cannot open the required file D:/Sources/install.wim. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, Error code: 0x80070570. I have looked into the usb stick but install.wim is just there. And I did a disk chek in wintoflash and it found this:

Found problems with source files.

Can't find file D:\sources\boot.wim
Can't find file D:\sources\idwbinfo.txt
Can't find file D:\bootmgr
Can't find folder D:\boot\
Can't find file D:\sources\install.wim or file D:\sources\install.swm
Total errors: 5
I hope someone can help me out! Thank you in advance

A:Windows cannot open the required file D:/sources/install.wim! HELP!

There are obviously corrupt files on the stick. There could even be a problem with the stick itself.
I would try again using Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool.

Hey there,

I just got my notebook back from support since my harddrive failed last week.

So, since I'd have to reconfigure everything anyways, I'm thinking about installing Windows 8.1, which I can get through a student program of my university.

The preparation stops at the drivers, though, since I can't find any drivers for Windows 8 and my model.

Note that my model is an L650-1L4 and was originally shipped with Windows 7.

Has somebody here maybe some experience with this?
Are the generic drivers included in Win8 sufficient to be able to work - and play games - flawlessly?

While I could easily wipe the Win8 installation and reinstall Win7 again, I like to be prepared, and since I'm leaving this weekend for a small vacation, I'd like to have a working notebook with me.

Thanks for your help!

A:Some tips to install Windows 8.1 on Satellite L650-1L4 required

Hmmmmm...... it can be a bit complicated. I?ve checked Toshiba download page and your notebook model is not supported for Win8. I?ve checked some other models with similar hardware configuration but they are not supported for Win8.

I really don't know what to say. If you have created recovery disc (Win7) install Win8 and check how it works. Some Toshiba specific tools and utilities you can download from other models in hope everything will work well.

Anyway I think you should stay on Win7.

Hello everyone,

I have both and install.esd and an installx64.esd file on my SSD, each occupy 2.7 GB on my SSD. I think I have them because I upgraded from win8 - correct me if I'm wrong.

My question is that is it possible to save some disk space and remove those files? I do not plan to go back to win8 in the future.

Thank you in advance!

Suggestion :
Why don't you copy them to an USB flash drive or to an external hard drive first, then delete them afterwards.
You don't need them now, but they might come in handy in the future.
That Install.esd is for your Windows 10. It can be used to convert into an ISO file which can then be burnt to a bootable installation DVD or USB. You can then use it to reinstall Windows 10 if you need to.

Hi.
When I run scan disk, it shows some huge files, that are old... old install files, and back-ups, I guess. Anyway, it says that its better not to delete them, or I may be asked to use my program disks...
Do you know, would this just happen on a rare occasion, or quite often? I would rather get rid of those files, and I do have the program files. But of course, not "updates"...
Also, is there a way of putting these old compressed files on CD RW? If so, how do I find them? Thanks.

I decided to test out the Windows 10 Technical preview but a program I need doesn't work with Win 10 TP.
So I decided to attempt a factory reset however when I started the reset it took about 4 hours to do something I don't know what then I entered my BIOS to select the Windows 7 DVD as a boot drive so it loaded up then it come up saying...

A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver on a floppy disk, CD, DVD or USB flash drive, please insert now.

Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The problem I have is I don't know if I have done something wrong or anything all I know is I followed the steps given to do a factory reset but now this is happening this has happened before when trying to install Windows 8.1 but I gave up the reason I am trying to go back to windows 7 is because I have been given support from Microsoft to fix the Windows 8.1 install and a program I need to use won't work.

Where did you get your installation media? That happens sometimes when the ISO file is bad or the burn to DVD is bad.

Hi,

I have a known working image of Windows 7 on a flash drive.

However, if trying to install Windows 7 by booting from the flash drive I get "a required cd/dvd drive device driver is missing usb"

I have tried removing and reinserting the usb.

I found a link https://downloadcenter.intel.com/dow...reator-Utility

that is supposed to put the drivers for usb 3.0 in the installation files. That did not work.

I have tried downloading the usb files from the manufacturer Acer for usb 3.0 and then navigating to them via browse and found files that showed up, but that did not work.

I also tried installing drivers for AHCI, CardReader, Chipset by clicking browse and navigating to the hard drive. All to no avail.

I am now going to see if putting the USB driver files on the flash drive will work. Would this make a difference? And should I potentially try this with the other driver files as well?

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Good afternoon. I have a custom system with 64-bit Win 7 Home Premium (OEM upgrade from Win XP)
Gigabyte 965-P DS3 with Q8200 CPU @ 2.3 GHz, Award BIOS F14
6 GB RAM
PCI-E 8400GS NVIDIA card
500 GB SATA Hard Drive
Norton 360/Security Suite
Office 2007

Just recently did the BIOS, Processor, and OS upgrade so not much on the system yet at all--just Productivity, not for gaming. I went through each component and checked for newer drivers and I ran CHKDSK as well.

In trying to get some other things working, I ran into BSODs that could not be fixed without Restoring to a previous point. The first was after trying to install some new Java-based Live Meeting program...then a few days later it happened after installing Flash Player (not AIR).

I have attached the files generated after the most recent BSOD. I would appreciate any guidance on what might be contributing to the problem. I had installed Camtasia before one of the Restores and am hoping to install again but am holding off for now until I am comfortable not having to go through Restore again.Thanks.

Hello and welcome fpnole I have to say I ma not much good with those files but knowing the problems that can happen with Java maybe you should run some security scans starting with these for starters.
