Q: T480 Trackpoint is slightly crooked and unbalanced.

I was wondering if there was any way to fix this other than requesting warranty support:

Preferred Solution: T480 Trackpoint is slightly crooked and unbalanced.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've been having fun with the new T480, except for a problem with the trackpoint. I don't use the trackpoint for much, but I do use its buttons at the top of the touchpad. I noticed that the buttons were not working, which led me to try and see if the red stick was working. When the buttons stop, the red stick stops too. The trackpoint will just stop working, and I can't see any pattern to what causes it to quit.  I was worried that it was a hardware problem, and it might be, but if I go to the settings and disable, then re-enable the trackpoint, it usually starts working immediately. The computer is only two weeks old, and is under warranty, but being without it while I send it in for service is far more expensive to me than buying new parts and installing them myself. But is there a good strategy for exhausting software problems first? The Lenovo vantage update system seems to think everything is up to date. While I've been composing this post, it has started and stopped working twice.

HelloAs many others have described in other posts, my trackpoint is not working. It sometimes works when I go into advanced boot options, and when I do a hard restart (unplug batteries, or reset bios to OS optimized defaults) it sometimes starts working again for a small period of time. Then it can stop working, either after a hibernation, but also just in the middle of using the computer. (I was watching netflix I think when that happened)What is the best cause of action?Everybody seems to agree, that it is a BIOS issue, as the problem often persists to other OS's.I would rather not open my computer, however I can and have done that in the past with other thinkpads. If I send it in to lenovo, what will they do to fix it there? And can I just do that from home, with a set of small screwdrivers?

HelloI am having the same problem as many others. My trackpoint and the three keys (right left and middle click) have been disabled. The bios says they are enabled and they have worked before. When I go to settings the option to enable it is greyed out which leads me to think it is a problem registiring the keys. I have tried many shutdowns and reboots but none have worked. What should I do?Some people say that a keyboard replacement is best. Would it work for me?Should I send it to Lenovo for repair?

I purchased a refurbished T480. Right out of the box, the trackpoint didn't work. I updated everything, looked through all the settings, and the switch you can click to enable the trackpoint is greyed out. Here it is:I looked through the forums, and most everyone said their trackpad wasn't working either. My trackpad works, but the trackpoint pointer and the buttons above the trackpad don't work. I checked the BIOS and it says trackpoint is enabled. I tried manually installing drivers for the device, as well as uninstalling and reinstalling drivers for the device. Nothing has worked. Help!

So ive had my t480 for 2 months now. About 1 month ago the trackpad and trackpoint started observing unusual behavior. When i boot the machine up, the trackpoint doesnt work, but the trackpad works except its very laggy. Eventualy when i start using the machine, the trackpad starts to work regularly. Ive checked the bios settings, xorg config files (i use unix based operating systems usually) and ive tried using windows. None of these worked. So it seems like a hardware issue. What do i do?

A:T480 intermitant trackpoint and trackpad.

Hello and welcome,
This is totally out of left field... but I've seen similar behavior when testing live Ubuntu on an X280.
It's fixed (perhaps w/out advanced touchpad features) by adding "psmouse.proto=bare"  (w/out the quotes) to the kernel line in the grub boot stanza.
Can't explain why it would suddenly change on your machine, so as I said... out of left field...

Have only had my T480 for a few days and Constantly plagued by an issue with the trackpoint and it's buttons. After a random period ranging from 1 minute to 10 minutes, the trackpoint stops working entirely; the touchpad becomes extremely laggy. After about 30 seconds the touchpad is working correctly however the trackpoint and its buttons stop working all together. The only way I have found to solve it, is rebooting the system, however it happens after every reboot. On occasion the trackpoint will work after this, but for only a second before failing to work again. This appears to be random, maybe after 15 minutes of it failing, after forgetting it's broken and trying to use it. This is after updating the Touchpad and pointer drivers, ensuring im on the latest BIOS.However this exact same issue occurs on a Linux partition, which leads me to believe it's a hardware fault.Has anyone experienced this before?

Hey, i was wondering if anyone knew why..
Despite my audio player (Winamp) speaker balancing being center, one of my albums that is on the hard disk plays strangely..
I can hear everything but its like..the lyrics only come out of one speaker and the drums out of another..and so on and so on..its really making Me feel unbalanced..and dazed

Sorry if theres already a thread like this, i checked but couldnt find anything.

A:Unbalanced Sound

Read other 8 answers

Around 3-3-2011 my sound started acting strangely, despite me never messing with sound options other than volume up and down. When the balances (viewable by double clicking the speaker icon in the corner) are balanced in the middle, everything sounds soft and echoes. However, when either Speaker or Wave balanced is forced all the way to either side, the sound become somewhat normal, but only plays sound from the respective side (balancing to the left plays only left channel sound). Now while I can get by with only listening to one channel, I would very much like to fix this issue.

I always use a Logitech Headset (sorry, can't seem to find any identifier on the headset itself), but this issue also occurs with the desktop speakers.

I attempted a system restore to sometime earlier in the week, but that didn't seem to do anything.

Any information you feel may be relevant I will gladly give to you if you were direct me how to find it.

A:Sound Unbalanced/Echoes

You could uninstall and the reinstall the sound drivers.
If you have a PCI sound card then you could try moving it to another slot.

hey all I have recently updated my rig however its less than holding up expectations despite the price tag on my GPU ($400).
My question is what I will need to do to my PC to get a much more stable FPS in games and over all stable and balanced system, or an answer to why my system seems to be folding under the pressure of games such as Witcher 2 which my FPS ranges from 40-20.

My System Specs are:

Intel Core i5 2400 3.1 GHz

AMD Radeon 280X

Corsair 550 W PSU
Could my problem be caused by my lack of RAM as I need to find my other stick I have lost it somewhere.

Or is it simply an out-dated CPU?

Or could it be something else?

A:System Unbalanced and Bottlenecked

The Witcher 2 is a very demanding game, it gives high end GPUs a good run for their money. Your CPU should be good for it really too. What sort of FPS are you getting in other games, can you give us some examples?

Hi all, it's been a while.

Recently, I've been having problems with my sounds. My left and right speakers is unbalanced. My left speaker is a lot quieter than it was. I tried using an external speaker (my headphone if that counts) but i still get the same problem.

So, I was wondering if my speaker is at fault or is it my sound card?

BTW, my headphones are perfectly fine as it is barely used and I just bought it 2 weeks ago. I've also tried using it with my brother and sister's laptop and the left and right headphone produces the same volume.

I'm using HP Pavilion dv2500 Notebook PC.

Please help.

A:Unbalanced laptop speakers

Try adjusting your balance control, all the way to the left, and all the way to the right to see how it reacts.
It might be a blown speaker, but this should help diagnose it.

Check to make sure the paper guides are tight on the sides of the paper first.

Hello, I have a Lenovo B50-70 Laptop, lately I've been facing an issue which I tried to hunt down myself as much as I could, however I've finally given up on all of my experience and knowledge and mostly because I don't have any more ways to troubleshoot this. The issue is that the audio output is unbalanced, any microphone, any earbuds, any output speakers that I use will have the 'left' output as low as 1-5% Yes I have checked the Playback devices > Speakers > Levels > Balance, both of them are 100. The thing is this happened before, and that time when I was testing with other audio devices, it just got fixed itself, today once again while I was watching youtube videos and I unplugged my microphone to re-arrange it on my table and then when I plugged it in, the audio from the left side was extremely low so much that is almost not audible, the devices I have tested them on my phone, work fine. Would be nice to get a solution.

Hi there, I'm having some trouble with my wireless internet connection. Firstly, I don't quite recall the specific max bandwidth my connection has since I have a problem with numbers, but I am very sure that the maximum download speed I can attain (170 kb/s) is far below what it should be capable of delivering and what it was advertised to deliver. Of course, I know that these advertisements often exaggerate, but still.

Furthermore, at times the download speed goes down to the 40-45 kb/s range and the normal maximum speed appears again at random. Yeah, you might say that's pretty annoying. And as skilled as I am with the more hardware-ish sides of computer technology, I'm having trouble finding out what's causing the problem and I don't want to mess up anything so I can't connect to the Internet at all.

The router is a SpeedTouch ST546 and the Internet provider is a Norwegian company known as Telenor. I'm not completely sure what kind of broadband package I have though and since I've moved recently, I cannot find the documentation. Any help to solving this problem?

I doubt it but cant tell you absolutely untill we know what touchpad. Mine has a sensitivity adjustment but it doesnt give the option of adjusting just the X-axis.

Have you checked the driver in device manager?

Hi there,I recently ordered an X1 2017 but sent it back for several reasons. One minor issue with it was that the left hinge was slightly crooked. Not by a lot, some might not even notice, but for me not really acceptable for a 2k5? device. Unfortunately it was the first thing I noticed during unboxing. With the lid closed you see that it's not parallel to the rest of the device. Meanwhile I have ordered one again and unfortunately it's the same in terms of crooked hinge. So I'm suspecting a general "problem". Obviously the support team never ever heard of such a thing.Just wondering - how is your's? I don't think I'll do anything about it since I don't think the service team will do a better job than the factory and generally things don't tend to get better by taking them apart. However - just curious if I'm the only one. Cheers, reach

So I picked up a 13" 720 from best buy yesterday, and so far I love it. The only issue, however, is that the left hinge is at a slant. When I close the laptop, both hinges are pretty easy to "wobble" if I press on them with a little force. https://i.imgur.com/yl2CY40.jpg Is this normal as far as this line of laptops go? Is it worth going in and returning it?

Hi everyone,New Lenovo Yoga 710 15" owner here.  I absoluteley love this laptop, but when I close the lid, it's doesn't quite line up with the bottom portion of the laptop.  When closed, the top (lid) is crooked. This hinges look ok to me.  When I had the laptop open to upgrade the RAM I even inspected them closer and I don't see an issue there. Anyone else with a 710 having this issue?  Is there a fix? Thanks!

I tripped on a cord connected to my Toshiba Satellite 1800-S204 laptop tonight and it fell onto the carpeted floor from a table about 1.5 feet off the ground. Not too high up, but bad enough. The computer was still running and appeared to be fine, but upon closer inspection I noticed that the image on the screen is now slightly crooked, turned a tiny bit counterclockwise. It's the kind of thing easily fixed on a desktop monitor, but this is a laptop monitor and no such adjustments can be made. It doesn't really interfere with my work, only that the top right corner of any maximized window, where the minimize, maximize, and close buttons are, is halfway off the screen. It's more of an irritation than anything, and will continue to be one whenever I decide to watch DVDs. Is this a serious problem? How can I get it fixed? Thanks.

A:Crooked Image on Laptop Monitor

This is a mechanical issue, the LCD display has moved behind the bezel. The only way to fix it is to take the display section apart, probably not a job you want to tackle. It can be fixed, but I have no idea what the cost might be...

My Lenovo 710, intel i5 8gb RAM version has an extremely irritating problem in that it emits a high pitched noise from the left side of the chasis (opposite to the charging port) when charging and powered off. The noise is very high pitched, so much so that it almost tops my hearing limit. (I am 20 years old.) It only occurs when the laptop is off and charging, and occurs regardless of the battery %. I am certain that the noise is coming from the left side of the computer, and not the actual wall wart itself. I am using the charger that came with my brother's old Lenovo 710 pentium laptop, but since the amperage and voltage output seem to be a same, I don't imagine that it's the cause of the problem. Secondly, the right hinge on my computer is crooked. Not sure why, not sure how, but it is. It doesn't seem to affect anything, as my computer still folds and closes properly without any noticeable deformities. Not a big problem, but somewhat irritating.

Hi, All.
I just purchased two Samsung 172T black flat panel monitors. After I opened the double hinge stand and stood them up, the panels tilted to the right. In other words, they are not level. The shelf is pretty level. The panel is not level or parallel with its base. Both units tilt the same on different shelfs. So, I cannot believe that I got two bad units.

Is there an adjustment screw on the hinge that will enable me to level the unit? I have yet to call Samsung - I thought that I would try here first.

Hi all,

I have Norton av 2005, it came with my computer. I have three accounts on my machine, one admin and two limited user. recently I downloaded and installed zone alarm personal firewall.
I only use my admin account for instalation and updates, norton and/or microsoft. We do download other third party software to one or other of the limited user accounts, save them to desktop, then copy and past to the DATA D: only from D: are they then installed using the Addmin acc.
I'll be back, I'm sorry, but we have a nasty thunderstorm over head...

sorry about that.
We, using zone alarm, blocked norton form updateing on the limited accounts. To day, however, I tryed to update norton on the admin. account, it gave me an error msg. I followed the advice from norton and managed to update norton. I then ran a scan, it found nothing. All seems well. Except for one, what may be but a slight enomaly, the icon for eRecovery on the admin account has changed from what it was, which I can't discribe, to one square white box with a blue bar at top.
That same icon appears normal on the other two limited user accounts.
i'm sorry for the long story.

It might well be nothing, but I just thought I'd ask.

Sorry for the long pause, hope you guys reply, even if it is only to tell me that I should not be concerned.

I didn't think to compare streaming music to local files until I found this thread.  Thanks to the people who posted about that.  My audio fades out to almost nothing when streaming, but acts fine for local files.  I quit maxxaudio and it didn't change anything, then i started it again and no change, but what did finally fix this for me was going into maxxaudio and clicking "Revive".  No idea what that's supposed to mean but now streaming music sounds fine. "Revive" is located on the first screen, "Playback," in the lower left area under "Streaming".  I hope this helps someone because it's a really annoying problem.  Not the first driver issue I've had with this PC, pretty disappointing.

Hi, my name is Don and I have a reoccurring virus that comes up whenever I do a cold boot. At the end you will find some of the file names for four days.

I tried something different to issolate the problem.

I always run AVG antivirus daily (free version) and the infected files are put into the vault.

I did not turn off the computer yesterday, it was in stand-by mode. I did a “restart” the next day (today) after updating my virus file. This was not a cold boot. Later I got on the internet as normal. My virus scan started about 2:00 PM. There were no viruses found. I also did a malware scan, all okay. I run the edido.net on line scan.

So I believe that there is a file in the cold start program that adds the Trojan horse to activate iwhen I go online.

I have tried to do a system restore to Dec 25, 28, 17 and Jan 1. This was unsuccessful. I am using Windows XP

First, Happy Christmas to everyone, I hope you had a good time.

Secondly, I'm sorry this is off topic but I really cant find anywhere else to ask.

For new years my dad wants to upgrade the current computer.

We want to spend £500 on new motherboard, CPU, about 1Gig of memory, graphics cards, hard drive, power supply and a big heatsink and fan suitable for overclocking.

The system is used mainly as a music centre, DVD -> VCD machine, a few games and some office use. I'd like a system around the 2Ghz mark with quality ram, a no frills but quality motherboard, and the hard drive needn't be larger than 30Gig.
The graphics card doen't have to be top of the range but we would like a decent one, roughly around the £100 range.
I wish to buy all this online, but don't really know where to go.

Could someone please tell me which products would suit my needs and the best online stores to purchase them from.

Thanks a great deal, and to anyone who replies, it's *really* apreciated!

i dont know much about anything else but try tigersupply.com for some low prices. A GeForce 2 or 4 is a good choice.

I have an Envision EN5600 LCD monitor that I have had for about 2 years. About a week or so ago I began to notice a very slight flickering issue that happened at random points and without explanation. It happens every 5 minutes or so but it can be less or more. The flicker is basically unnoticeable but appears to look like a slight movement in a line near the top third of the monitor or the bottom third. I have changed the refresh rate down to its lowest setting (60 Mhz) but to no avail. Could this be a video card problem? I recently installed the newest nVidia drivers but I didn't notice a real correlation. Any ideas? Thanks.

I will add just this, you cannot have two slaves on the same cable. If the hard drive is master on the primary IDE channel, and you have the two DVDs on the same cable, one must be jumpered master and the other slave.

I've seen the jumping around caused by of all things a mouse pad. My Dad refuses to believe me, but it's true. My mouse (optical wireless) did it until I removed the supposedly designed for optical mice mousepad. Maybe I should send this one to Mythbusters. Maybe they'd blow up my mouse.

Hi there, I have recently purchased a Dell XPS 15z. It is great, but there's one problem. when I am typing the window goes slightly transparent and the words that I am typing don't show up. It doesn't always happen but today it has been happening every few seconds, that makes typing this post very difficult
If someone could help, that would be great

A:Window keeps going slightly transparent

I don't quite understand what you mean, but I have an idea, is this what you meant?

See Image above, by transparent - you mean the top part of this image, and by normal you mean the bottom half (I am using a Custom theme, so it will look slightly different).

I installed Win7, clean install on my Pavillion notebook with a NVidio GEForce Go 7400 display adapter. Everything looked very good. I installed the Windows update for the driver. Didn't seem to make a difference. On XP I had the DPI setting at 125% as I prefer larger fonts. I didn't like it on Win7 for some reason. Things a little too big, so I went back to small. I did the ClearType Tuner. I also messed around with refresh rates for my monitor going from 60hz to 70hz. Didn't seem to make a difference, but 75hz things were noticeably more fuzzy. So I'm back to small (normal) fonts, 60hz, did the ClearType Tune, made sure Smooth fonts was on in the performance, etc. Now maybe I'm imagining things but I swear things are not nearly as crisp as before. It looks like maybe there is too much contrast and/or brightness but things look a slightly fuzzier now. Any suggestions?

A:Fonts Slightly Blurry?

You could try right clicking the desktop, going into Nvidia Control Panel (which should be on that right click menu), and playing around with "adjust desktop color settings" from the menu that should appear on the left. In that section, you will see sliders to adjust contrast, brightness, gamma, etc. These can make a difference.

Also text size can be more finely adjusted in Windows advanced appearance settings.
To do that, you need to: right click the desktop, click personalize, click "windows color," then "advanced appearance settings," then under "item" you can check the various items and some of those like "menu" will have font settings which you can adjust the size of, in very fine increments and adjusting text size that way looks clearer to me than doing the global DPI adjustment, and might help some in your case.

Also make sure your color resolution is set on the highest setting. It should be by default.

Finally go to the manufacturer's site for your computer manufacturer and also for the graphics adapter, in this case, nvidia and see if either of them offer a more recent driver for your particular graphics card and OS. If so you can try installing either or both of those and see if any of them improve things.

Just connected a new 1920X1080 TV to my PC and it's working great EXCEPT that Windows 7 is a little too large for the TV and stuff is getting cut off. Is there some feature to let me squeeze the system to fit the display on the TV?

Resolution on the TV and 24" monitor are both set to duplicate 1920X1080. The monitor displays fine. If I go to 1280X1024, everything fits perfectly, but I want to use the recommended larger resolution.

Do you have a scaling, or scanning option for your tv? Check your video card settings, it should have a scaling option.

hi everyone, new here hoping to get some feed back by smart individuals, it's a bit tricky to get help these days. I got a new computer with Windows 7 (that's made for gaming) for a while now. within about three months or so I've notice the startup is a bit slower, but somtimes it would load fast. like around eight seconds slower. however everything seems to work find and run smoothly. I've tried a lot of suggestions -tried using that "msconfig" option. -I ran disk cleanup & defrag my hardisk. -I've tried several antivirus programs (like malwarebytes, AVG, Kaspersky, Superantispyware, spybot S&D, and Avira.) and found nothing. -Kept up with Updates What else do you think could cause a slow starup; and is it something I should even worry about?

My PC is slightly slowing down and I wonder if the cookies are the cause. How do I remove them?

A:My PC is slightly slowing down - cookies??

How depends on the browser you use. Firefox? IE?

But that isn't likely the cause.

Purchasing a new hard-drive and this one seems to have attracted some really good press/user reviews:

In terms of value for money, can anyone see anything better out there? Obviously UK purchaser here, I don't mind spending the same on a better product or slightly more if the hardware warrants it

A:New Hard-Drive, anything better for the same/slightly more?

Looks about like the regular US price to me, though here you can do some shopping and get it down a little bit.

I'd say with a keen eye you can get a comparable drive, 500GB from Seagate or WD for about £32-33. Other that looks fine to me!

Hi all,

I'm having a bit of trouble with a quite complicated home network! At present it is set up as follows:

BT homehub in the lounge which is acting as the modem and phone point etc.

Attached to this hub: xbox 360 and a netgear router 1 in another room via ethernet cable.

Attached to netgear router 1: PC, Network hard drive, BT homehub, and netgear router 2

Attached to netgear router 2: 3 ethernet wall sockets which go to other rooms, currently only one laptop plugged in.

Now at the moment, pretty much everything works fine, the homehub is set as dhcp and the netgear routers have i.p's and Everything else is set to obtain ip's automatically and right now i'm typing from the PC attached to netgear router 1. From here, I can access the setup page from the homehub and both netgear routers no problem and the only bit that isn't working is the laptop connected to netgear router 2. It doesnt show up on the list of attached devices on any router so im guessing it isn't getting an i.p from the homehub. I'm thinking that this is somehow due to it having to go through 2 routers to get there but does anyone have any clue how I can solve this?

The second problem is that i'm not sure how to have netgear router 1 and 2 connecting to the internet in order to wirelessly broadcast it themselves. Is it just a case of copying the details from the homehub as they both require the following numbers for internet: ip addre... Read more

A:3 Routers... Slightly confused, please help!

These instructions work for as many secondary router as you want to connect, you don't change the configuration of the primary router at all.

Connecting two SOHO broadband routers together.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses through, I'd assign the secondary router as it's IP address.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-over cable. Leave the WAN port unconnected!
