Preferred Solution: hello please what are the magnet effect to hard drive on la...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello buddies!
My sub woofers satellite speakers and base speakers(sub-woofer) are close to the my LCD monitor. I heard that its magnetic power of speakers effect monitors (reduce monitor quality) so is that true?

A:Speakers magnet power effect LCD monitor?

Both magnetic and electrical fields can interact with each other (hence why we can have electric motors and generators). However, the effect of a magnetic field on an LCD/LED monitor is generally unnoticeable. With CRT monitors on the other hand, the effect can be seen quite clearly. This is because the electron beam which effectively draws the image on the screen is steered using electric deflection coils which produce a magnetic field. The electrons are primarily deflected by this field, but they are also susceptible to other external magnetic sources.

A:hello please i place magnet near my hard drive on laptop but its not working again

It would have had to be a very powerful magnet to erase the drive -- more likely is a coincidental drive failure.
Unplug the system, remove or disconnect the battery and hold the power button for 30 sec.  Remove and reinstall the hard drive -- if it's then still not seen, replace it.
If you need further information, we'll need to know what model system (i.e., Inspiron N5110, 5523, etc.) you have.

hey

I will soon be upgrading my motherboard and I am going to wipe my boot drive and install a new copy of windows on it, will this effect or wipe my other two drives? Or will they be fine

Thanks

A:Motherboard Upgrade and Hard-drive effect

It shouldn't.....When you do upgrade your mobo.....just install the drive with your OS on it. then do the clean install on it. Once that is done and the OS is fully updated and you've installed all your mobo drivers and system is in working order. shut down and reattach your other drives. That should do it.

My little brother put on a small sized magnet on my laptop in the spacebetween the mouse pad  corei3 logo and then the pc showed a bsod error, i rebooted the laptop and now it says boot device not found. is it that the hard disk got damaged or could it be anything else?  just wanted to be sure before taking it at the store

A:Magnet on Laptop result in Hard disk - 3f0

Hello FaiyazMamoon, You are right, the problem could be due to a damaged hard drive, but before bring it to the store, you could make a test for yourself. Restart the laptop and enter the BIOS menu. You could do that by pressing the respective F key. Once you are on the Boot sub-menu, you could see whether the HDD is the first booting device on the boot priority. If it's not and you have the option to select the drive, please do so. If the drive is not recognized on a physical level, then probably the damage is more severe and the disk needs replacement. Let me know what happened. Have a nice weekend!

Recently I bought a PC game that is only supports 64-bit platforms, therefore I want to upgrade to 64-bit (and really mostly all PCs today run on 64bit).

I have two hard drives. My main one I currently use (C:\) is a 128GB SanDisk SSD which has Win 7 Ultimate 32-bit installed there. The other is a regular Seagate 300GB hard drive (called drive G:\) that I mainly use for storage of pictures, music, documents, misc. programs/applications, etc.

I know that going from 32-bit to 64-bit requires a clean install. My question is, if I do a clean install on the SSD, will the installation also wipe data in the other hard drive?

I'm wondering because if I go to Documents or My Music in the user directory, it points to the folder in G:\. Should I do something about this as well?

A:Clean Install Win 7 64 bit on 1 drive, will it effect another drive?

Never do any install with other hard drives or USB devices plugged in. Its recommended only 1 hd, mouse, keyboard. It will not delete anything off of your HD but it can cause problems while booting, especially if the other HD has an OS on it.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium. During a boot, the computer displayed a blue screen of death following 30 seconds of the green loading bar. I get this screen saying:

STOP: c0000221 Unknown hard error \systemroot\system32\ntdll.dll

Followed by a memory dump. I have tried to get into safe mode and tried doing a repair using the Vista DVD but soon after the green bar, I get the same blue screen error. I am running out of options. Please help!!!

I would really appreciate any input.

Please note there have not been any changed in hardware, no new devices or drivers have been updated in the last month. Windows did however install a couple of updates.

Thanks!

I just had a strange experience I don't know how to interpret. I got a used laptop that was distressed and would not boot. I pulled the 500GB SATA II drive and ran some tests on it, and was dismayed to find transfer rates of under 20MB/s. I ran CHKDSK on it, which produced no errors and did not change the performance. The drive passed all SMART and self-tests.

So I put the drive back in its machine and began to try to repair the boot. That led to trying to do a factory recovery, but that also failed. Finally I decided to install Win7 afresh from a DVD, and as part of that I deleted the two existing installation partitions and let Windows create new ones. That went very smoothly, and after all the dust settled I ran some performance tests on the drive again. Now the drive was clocking somewhere in the 70MB/s range!

Great news, but I'm trying to figure out what changed. The machine had been dropped, so I feared HDD damage. There is one CRC SMART error, but aside from that everything is perfect. I don't know what reformatting the partitions has to do with drive performance.

A:Stange effect of partition on drive performance

Probably a bad sector that had been written to previously, then damaged. If the damaged sector contains data the OS needs then you have trouble. When you run chkdsk /r or format a drive the system will try and mark bad sectors as unusable and ignore (skip) them. So your new install will have all the data it needs available.

Probably a good idea to run the manufacturer's diagnostic - extended test - on the drive to be sure. I have seen drives pass the SMART checks but fail the extended tests.

Original post by another user:
Well virus scanner (NoAdware v5.0) picked up the file:
Bearshare - Hkey_Classes_Root\magnet\URL Piregvalue
But everytime i removed it, it just was there next time i scanned.
So i ran the "sfc /scannow" thingy in the command prompt, but just got:

Verification 98% complete.Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.log windir/Logs/CBS/CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

But upon trying to open the log i just got "access denied" so i can't really provide any other details as of now

Any ideas would be much appreciated?

I actually found this forum from searching for solutions to a problem so I'm hoping I can get some help here.

Though it doesn't show up as a problem in my McAfee or CCleaner, my NoAdware program is finding this one problem:

hkey_classes_root]magnet\url pregvalue

I delete it but then it comes back every couple of days. It says it's associated with something called Bearshare, but I don't have this program (I've searched for the name to see if it downloaded with something else but nothing by the name comes up).

I'd like to get rid of this hkey thing so that it never comes up again. I have Win7.

Help would be appreciated.

Bearshare is a peer-to-peer file sharing application. So is Kazaa. You probably had installed this at one time. How did you find this registry value? You could very well have a trojan, virus or malware.

First, uninstall your peer to peer software if you have it installed.

Hi all,

I am attempting to install Win7 in an Inspiron 1545 with a new SATA hard drive that was purchased. When i insert the drive, I get "Internal Hard Disk Drive Not Found." I have verified the drive is not showing in the BIOS, I've already attempted to reseat the drive several times. In addition, I've attempted to load the chipset drivers, SATA drivers, etc from Dells website, the drive still does not show in the OS install when booting to DVD or in bios.
I dont believe it to be an issue with the new drive, as I plugged the new drive into another model Dell laptop and it recognizes the drive fine in BIOS, also I can still boot to the previous hard drive in this laptop without issue when i plug it back in.
Is there a specific driver, etc that I need to use for the drive to be recognized or other thoughts people have?

A:Inspiron 1545- replacing hard drive, new SATA drive not found "Internal Hard Disk Drive Not Found

This is strange - either the new hard drive has a rare compatibility issue with your onboard controller (I use a 500Gbyte in my 1545 without probs)) or it is a mechanical problem.I would take a close look at the physical dimensions and compare your original hdd with the new one.Watch the video (even though it's about a 1525 (similar to an 1545) and an SSD hdd) -  go to 2:20

Hello,
While the usage of torrents and magnet links itself is not illegal, using peer-to-peer filesharing in order to download copyright protected content (whether that is music, movies, games, books or anything else) is illegal and asking for help with this is prohibited by the board rules here at BC to which you agreed when you joined this site:

No subject matter will be allowed whose purpose is to defeat existing copyright or security measures. If a user persists and/or the activity is obviously illegal the staff reserves the right to remove such content and/or ban the user. This would also mean encouraging the use or continued use of pirated software is not permitted, and subject to the same consequences.

If you need text books, you should acquire them like anyone else, by buying or loaning them.

Hi.

I have two, probably connected, issues with my new Windows 8.1-running laptop.

Problem 1:

Recently, and very suddenly, all Windows 8 metro apps have stopped working.

A typical experience: Swipe for charms bar > Settings > Change PC settings .... This then takes me to the metro start screen. If I press the windows key, it shows me the settings icon in full screen for a few seconds then takes me back to the start screen. This happens for every app!

(I have followed this person's advice, but to no avail: Can't access "Change PC Settings" in Win 8 - Microsoft Community.)
Problem 2:

Also, I have been getting the 'No apps are installed to open this kind of link' error message when opening a magnet link in uTorrent and selecting to download a program from the BBC iPlayer website, using the previously installed BBC iPlayer Downloads program for windows.

I have reinstalled both programs, restarted multiple times and used CC Cleaner to try repair any possible damage to the registry, but all this has had no effect. I have tried to open both magnet links and iPlayer downloads using Internet Explorer instead, but this hasn't done anything either.
Other Relevant Info:
I have recently tried Iobit's Advanced System Care (or, ASC) programs, but I uninstalled them all because I suspected they were causing at least some of the issues. As far as I know, the internet link problem (#2) started first. In the past, I have had to reinstall the BBC iPlay... Read more

I'm making much sense so I will post a picture...

Is there anyway to fix this? Does the drive really only have 286 gigs on it?

A:System Image disks installed on new hard drive show new hard drive same size as old one

You have to be logged in as Admin to perform these operations.
Go to Start, and in the Search box, type in DISK MANAGEMENT. Pick the Control Panel item "Create and format disk partitions." Once Disk Management comes up, right-click on the area of your disk and select "Extend volume..." Move it out
as far as you want, making the whole thing one drive.
If that doesn't work for you, then you can download Easeus Partition Manager Home
http://www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm  and create a boot CD from it that will accomplish the same thing (and more, if you want to read up on it). It's a free program and works
with 32- and 64-bit Windows. I like it and use it myself.

My T410i hard drive died, I have Windows 7 Home Basic OA key, but how to install on new hard drive? I had to replace the hard drive, I realise from the help pages I should have written down the error messages before replacing... Either way I am unsure how to obtain the Windows 7 Home Basic software to re-install.I have the key, where should I go - the microsoft site says it came pre-installed so I need to contact the supplier - Lenovo, but on the product list T410i is too old and not listed. Thanks in advance for you time.CheersPaul

first things first, im using Flashget 3 as a downloader.

and bellow is the error messege

firefox doesn't know how to open this address because the protocol (magnet) isnt associated with any program.

so i figured that this might be a popular problem with an equally popular and simple solution(like clicking a tick box or giving a folder destination), so there would be no need to post to any forums to find any help, until i actually tried to find the solution and waddaya know, it was easy to find, but the solution themselves were the problem. it includes some command line mumbo jumbo, add to it that everything was wrighten in a manner that its assumed that you know what to do and that 80% of the time it had to do in Linux, and you got the recipe for not helping at all.
so is there a simple solution to this?

oh also, i tried with chrome too, but there nothing happens if i press the magnet link.

A:Firefox wont open the Magnet links and puts up an error

Open NotePad and type the following in it:

Quote:

REGEDIT4[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\magnet]@="URL:magnet Protocol""URL Protocol"=""[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\magnet\shell][HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\magnet\shell\open][HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\foo\shell\open\command]@="\"C:\\Program Files\\Application\\program.exe\" \"%1\""

Quote:

Replace C:\\Program Files\\Application\\program.exe with the program you want to run i.e. flashjet3.exe. Note that backslashes must be doubled and the additional slashes and quotes before the path must not be removed. Save the file something as ?name.reg?, then double-click it to insert into the Windows registry

I have a customer's Satellite L305D S5895 laptop. This was shipped to me by the customer who tried to install Windows XP Pro, Vista and none would install. He said he tried all installation CDs he had and finally gave up on it and shipped it to me.

When I got it the partition were deleted so I tried to install Win 7 and when I do doing a custom install I get an error saying the hard drive can't be formatted on disk 0 or it will give an error that no hard drives were found.

I reset the bios to default and no matter what I do it won't format or find the harddrive. I was going to upgrade the bios but the only way I found to upgrade the bios is after windows is installed. There is no way to make changes to the bios for settings that would have to do with the hard drive. This has a Toshiba MK2546GSX (S1) hard drive.

When installing Win 7 I get the normal windows, "windows is starting", "Select Language", "Select System", "Type of install", "Custom Install", "Delete partitions", "New Partitions", "Format", then the error message "Windows cannot format a partition on disk 0. Error: 0x80070057"

This happens regardless what system I try to install. I've tried two different versions of XP, one of Vista and 3 Win 7 and each time a different install CD.

Hi,
I REALLY hope someone out there can help me with this!

I have a failed hard drive/ stuffed partion, and i DESPERATELY need the data from it!

A computer was brought into me with two hard drives. The owner asked me to set up a duel boot with vista and XP on the first hard drive, and to leave the second hard drive alone (its his backup drive with all his photos, movies etc) I was working away as per usual, when i noticed the second hard drive was no longer coming up in Windows Explorer. Well it was, but not correctly. whenever i clicked on it it said 'would you liket to format the drive?' obviously, i didnt want to do that.

I ran Partition Magic 8.0 which showed the drive was only 8Gigs (it should have been 1T or 1000Gigs) Partition Magic also said there was a problem with the drive and offered to fix it. I agreed, however there was no change.

I've run a number of programs to try and fix the drive:
Acronis Disk Director Server 10.0
Partition Table Doctor 3.5 Demo
Dtidata Partition Repair Tool
MHDD
Recover My Files v3.98
FileScavenger.

However, all the partition repairers claim that the drive is only 8 Gigs, and they can go no further. All the File Recovery Programs will only scan for 8 Gigs, and thus, i can not recover my clients precious photos and videos.

The BIOS comes up as recognizing the drive as 33Gigs?

I really REALLY need the data from this drive! Does anyone know how to fix my problem?

Thanx heaps in advance,

Ben

A:Solved: Hard Drive/ Partition Problems! My 1T Hard Drive appears as 8Gigs?!

I've used ZAR to recover files from a RAID box that seemed to have been corrupted due to a bad power supply.

You might check it out. It's free. Meaning it will only allow you to recover so many files at a time. I bought it, and like it.

They have a forum that is monitored quite often, from the developer too.

Good luck.

I see it can be done from an installed to an external, but can it be done in reverse, taking the external cased hard drive and cloning it to an internal? The old hard drive is from an xp laptop, and I can aquire another xp laptop if I can clone this way. Perhaps if I set the enclosure hard drive as master? All ideas are greatly appreciated. Many thanks

Hi,

I am in the process of doing a clean re-install of Windows XP for Home on my PC. I have 3 hard drives:

c: 200gb Maxtor SATA drive - bootable with Windows XP (existing Windows install)
d: 20gb Maxtor IDE drive - non bootable data drive
g: 160gb Maxtor IDE drive - bootable with the clean install of Windows XP for home on it

Windows is not seeing all the sizes quite right yet but I will tackle that when I have solved this major problem that follows:

If I boot from the C drive - I have no problems at all. Windows will see all the different drives as it should do, I can access them all and they all work fine.

When I come to boot the clean install on drive G windows changes the drive letters - G becomes C, D remains as D but the 200gb Maxtor SATA drive isn't seen at all and might as well not exist.

Disk Management within Windows is no help as it can't see the drive, Maxtor software MaxBlast 4 is also no help as it can't see the drive on this install either.

I have checked and rechecked the BIOS but have pretty much discounted any issues here as it clearly shows all 3 drives and all 3 drives are listed on boot up. It's just when Windows kicks in that I have the problem.

I guess it's a simple setting somewhere, but I am pulling out what little hair I have left trying to think what it is - so any ideas would be very gratefully received.

Thanks in advance and kind regards

Stuart

A:Hard Drive Bootup Problems, Help required - Windows not seeing new hard drive Options

Hi
This is what I would do to enhance performance and storage strategy:

1. Use the 20g for the os and housekeeping utes such as av, spyware, etc only, nothing else goes on that drive.
2. Use the 160g for apps installs.
3. Use the 200g for data.

This might get you past the bios/firmware/os/drive letter issue and make better use of the drives. The 20 isn't really good for storage anymore, but would be great for an os/system ute drive. It's performance is less than the other drives, but that's ok, most of the os will stay in ram anyway after boot, you won't make any real diff having a faster os drive.
You might want to place a pagefile on each drive so pageing can occur concurrently too.
