Network problem became Firefox & Outlook problem, then MS update became AVG problem

Q: Network problem became Firefox & Outlook problem, then MS update became AVG problem

Thanks for the forum.

First - Network problem prevented internet access. I used "Diagnose" and "Repair". Repair found something and "fixed" it. Internet accessed after that.

Windows updates from 9/9/2009

Things I've done today: Created new back-up of user files, ran Disk Cleanup, restarted in Safe Mode to run Defrag, but it would not run.

Although I was not online, Firefox did start and searched for "home" in Safe Mode.

Decided it was time to try a tech forum my husband has raved about since his computer troubles were fixed.

I hope I've included all pertinent info. Thanks in advance!

Preferred Solution: Network problem became Firefox & Outlook problem, then MS update became AVG problem

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help with this odd problem. I was in Microsoft Outlook Web Access (Windows 7) on the latest Firefox (3.6) writing an email. I was trying to place a line between two blocks of text in the email, so I hit SHIFT and the underline key. Suddenly all the text on the screen shrunk to the point where I cannot read the emails or what I write. When I access the email through Internet Explorer the text is back to normal. I tried uninstalling Firefox and reinstalling it but it didn't help. Can you help? Thanks!!!!!!

A:Problem with Outlook Web Access in Firefox 3.6

Hi pachamama, welcome to TSG. Did you maybe hit Control and the underline key instead? If so, try hitting Control and the plus key. Let us know if it doesn't work.

Have just reformatted my computer. Win7 64 bit, Intel 2600k 8gig ddr3 1600 RAM.

Using Firefox as default browser.
Office 2010 installed. Microsoft Oulook default mail client.
Mailwasher also used.
Internet Download Manager as d/load manager.
Look n Stop firewall, Webroot SecureAnywhere, Microsoft Security Essentials
and Malwarebytes(on demand). All security software run and everything is clean.

This problem never occurred before reformatting and has just surfaced.
Everytime I open Outlook either using Mailwasher or Outlook itself Firefox immediately opens to a blank page with the following:

Firefox can't find the file at /C:/Users/Name/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/Temporary Internet Files/{CFD043D9-0CBB-482A-85F1-455E817671C8}/{9BCDCD53-42F1-423A-

Any assistance or advice would be appreciated.

When opening firefox it prompts:

'Firefox is installing your updates and will start in a few moments.'

but after the bar runs through it gives an error:

'The update could not be completed. Please make sure there are no other copies of firefox running on your computer, and then restart Firefox to try again.'

I click ok and every time I open firefox it does the same thing.

Firefox is not running I've rebooted, checked task manager, closed firewall, not really sure what is going on.

If this is a firefox update, I run version 11,.. Updated windows recently

Any ideas...?

Just remove the old version (11) and make a clean install of the latest version (12) of firefox.

I'm a newbie on this site so if this question has already been asked, then apologies.
I recently updated Firefox (April 12, 45.0.2) which has long been my preferred browser, and since then I am getting locked out of all sorts of sites I would normally visit. I can no longer play youtube music, just get a black screen that eventually stops on an error message. I can no longer access MSN games on line and some sites are coming up with a security warning that seems to be related to site certificates being incorrectly configured. On some of these, there is an option to allow, and some will open, but others just revert to a white window with an indexed list in blue, none of which help as they wont open.
I checked with my AV provider and they ran a diagnostic on their software, Eset security 9, ( updated this at the same time) and it all checks out. So the problem appears to be Firefox. I can get into all things with either IE or Chrome, but they're not preferred.
Anybody got a probable cause? I'm not particularly au fait with Win 7 BTW. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling on May 6 which is now Firefox 46.0.1 but no change.

I noticed over the last two days that my Firefox Address bar will not update itself when I enter a new page.

So example, if I type in www.google.com in my address bar it works, but then if I google something say 'techsupportguy' and click search the result page will stay the same and say www.google.com.

This happens to every other site as well, so if I'm on deviantart and click a link to go to a outside page it will still say deviantart.

So basically my address bar has stop updating itself.
I'm currently running Windows Vista home basic, with Firefox version 3.0.5.

Hello to everybody reading this!
I am a new member and I've just registered due to my issues which seems to be extremely persistent and hard to fix. Where should I even start...
OK, let's put it like this. Recently, maybe a week ago, I clicked on some shady link which I already knew in advance I shouldn't be clicking on but I did it anyway (don't ask me why, even I don't know the answer). What happened was, some browser hijacker was installed on my pc. I'll post you the link to this specific hijacker:
Of course I followed all the steps in that link, even before that I launched a full system scan with my AVG antivirus free and all those scans eventually have found some malicious software on my pc and reportedly deleted it. But let's not forget that I haven't had much malicious behaviour on my pc in the first place. Right away, it seemed that I have had removed everything very quickly. I immediately changed my homepage back to google, I've ran all those scans and my pc was working just fine and still is. But now we can procced to the issue which seems rather strange to me.
Since that happening, I can't update my firefox anymore. What happens is, autoupdate runs and detects ff update, but is unable to install it after firefox reboot and just displays an error that I can only update ff manually. But even when I try to do this and I download a ff installer, when I doubleclick on it, the window just flashes for a brief second and dissape... Read more

I get an error when trying to connect to my 2003 Exchange that indicates either a network problem or the Server isn't on.

The network seems to be working since I have internet and can ping the Exchange. On the exchange, the Information Store indicates that is is not running. I turn it up and I can connect again. Then, a couple of hours later, it stops again.

Could this be Network related, or is MS just being silly in its messages?

Ok Here is the problem,
I have Windows 95, Internet Explorer 5, and Outlook Express 5, I connect to the internet using Dial-Up Network. The Internet and sending and receiving emails has been going fine, until I encountered some sort of problem I cant fix. I can open IE 5 and Outlook Express 5 fine and work offline, but every time I try to connect either to go on the net or send and receive emails, the mouse and whole program freezes totally. All I can do is hit Control+Alt+Delete and shutdown the program, but even after that the mouse is still frozen and I end up restarting the whole computer. I don't know what happened, Please help me

A:Dial Up Network/IE5/Outlook Express5 Problem

A big feature with IE5 is that
it can be repaired without uninstalling . Here is how to do it . Open
Control Panel , Add / Remove , click on Internet Explorer , then click
on add / remove down the bottom . This opens a window with 3 choices .

Choice 1. Add , insert your IE5 install program & you can find other
items you may not have installed 1st time .

Choice 2. Repair , fixes problems that may crop up with IE5 / Outlook

Choice 3. If unfixable , removes IE5 & goes back to IE4 , now if you
want to you can reinstall IE5 or a later version or another browser
altogether . John .

We have several computers using the same database. The problem arises when somebody creates a new record, nobody else can find the record unless they close the form then re-open it.

The strange thing is that anybody can run a report that includes data from the new record even without closing the form first.

It works fine with somebody updating a record, once saved everybody will see the changes if they go into the record.

I just installed Microsoft Office Professional 2003 on a newly built PC. I performed all of the updates from Microsoft's OfficeUpdate. At the end of the last set of updates I got an error saying that one of the patches did not install because of an error. I did not note the KB number at the time.

I ran Belarc Advisor and it showed that two updates were missing:
KB945432 & KB951748 (both are patches for Outlook). OfficeUpdate said that Office is up to date.

I downloaded from Microsoft's website each of the above two patches. When I tried to install KB945432 it said something like 'Patch already applied or is included in a patch that has been applied'.

I then successfully installed the other patch (KB951748).

I then ran Belarc Advisor again and it showed that KB945432 was not applied.

I ran KB945432 again with the same message as above implying that the patch was already applied.

I checked OfficeUpdate again and it said that there are no updates.

1. Is this something to be concerned about? Or should I just trust the Microsoft Patch Installer (I could tell that it took around a minute to scan the computer before showing the message. So this implies that it checked the installation)?

2. If I desired to clear this up for a "peace of mind" which of the following actions would be best:

a. Uninstall Office Completely, Restart, Install Office and subsequent Service Pack/Patches?
b. Do an Office Re-Install through the Windows Add/R... Read more

When I opened Outlook today I got the following message:
"To continue accessing your mail using Microsoft Office Outlook, you must upgrade to the latest version of Outlook Connector"
When I choose to Upgrade now, I go through the wizard as directed. Once finished Outlook restarts but I get the same message about upgrading as above. This happens every time.

I then removed Outlook Connector via the control panel then went to the Microsoft update page and downloaded the latest version from there, I then run the update file, go through the wizard to set up and guess what, the same thing happens as before.

Hello everyone,

The problem has been for more than two weeks now, and it is only in the firefox browser,
Here are some examples:

1. When I went to youtube I see the same image on many unrelated videos, example below,
I found that when I put the mouse over one of the images it returns to the original image of the video,

Another example is on eBay (look at the background):

It's quite annoying, so if anyone knows how to solve it, I'd very much appreciate it,

Many thanks

Man this is getting frustrating. At one particular website, fantasygames.sandboxplus.com/..., Firefox won't load the pages. Almost every time, I get the screen in my attached picture. But then I usually hit try again or reload and it usually loads right the second time. Every once in a while it takes a 2nd or 3rd try to load. Since I have dial-up, this is really frustrating because I hate waiting on it. Many times, the page is already like 95% loaded and then the Problem Loading Page screen shows up, like out of no where. And it's not like this site's pages take a long time to load either, they take about the same time to load as most other sites. Is there any way to fix this?

I contacted my ISP provider and they went through my system to make sure i had all setting correct, they were, butthey won't help with any software that is not theirs. I hope someone can help me. I am using a new computer with Vista and have just installed Adobe Photoshop Elements 7, plus a 2000 Microsoft Home Publishing programme. I have another problem with Outlook. I cannot add alias's to my email address. I know how to do it, but when I get to Add email, the page that opens up is too large for the screen and the buttons on the bottom are not visible.

Hello Everyone,
I am new to this forum. I am hoping someone maybe able to help me diagnose and fix the problem with this problem. I have a problem with Acer Aspire One Network Adapter. The problem is that the netbook will connect to the internet and will have full bars for internet connectivity. Then a few minutes later it will just disconnect on it's own! I can usually reconnect by going on the Network & Sharing Center, then going into Diagnose problems, then clicking on Network Adapter, then after it resets, it will usually reconnect to the Internet, but lately it won't reconnect! I then have to restart the netbook. The netbook is running Windows 7 Starter, and it has Atheros AR5BXB63 Network Adapter. My friend who is a computer person searched online to confirm if the drivers were up to date, said that was not the problem. I would like any advise anyone can give me to see if this netbook can be fixed before I have to buy another! Please advise?

Are you getting any 'link light' on the card you plug the cable into? Usually a little green light or Amber I think it is on Dell. If you are not I suggest trying a different cable from your modem to your PC.

Also, is your PC directly connected to the modem or into a router?

And when setting your IP address are you going to Start --> Control Panel --> Network Connections?

Hi everyone

I need to see if anyone has a solution to my problem. I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 and my granddaughter has a Dell Inspiron i15-157B. I added her laptop to our wireless network (Linksys wireless-G broadband router model WRT54GS). Everything works fine as long as she's here in our home, but when she goes home and we try to connect our webcams through Yahoo Messenger, I can see and hear her just fine. She can see me but can't hear me. Why would it work here and not there? I'm wondering if it's something with our home network.

Her laptop at home is connected directly to the internet, but they will be setting up a wireless router also. We both use Vista.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My boyfriend complained that his Vista laptop was still not working after months of laying about so I thought I'd take a look and see what I could do. He mentioned that it was stuck in an update loop, being this one:

Vista OS - Configuring Updates: Stage 3 of 3 - 0% complete. Do - Microsoft Answers

After some research I managed to reinstall Vista on the laptop. Harder than it sounds for a novice! Couldn't boot in safe mode or anything else..

I've reinstalled it as normal, although it gave me the option of two partitions. I opted for the larger one which also has OS written somewhere in a little box. It installed fine and obviously we've lost all files etc. but the one problem we're having now, is connecting to the internet. Nowhere is it allowing me to connect or even show any sort of wireless ability (which is has built in).. I opened up the device manager and neither of the two network drivers were installed so I thought perhaps this was behind the problem. Whereas the ethernet driver has now installed from the driver/utility disc, the other drive, the LAN named one.. will not install. Hey yall, first post here. I am having a small problem. I recently update to the Vista SP2. It seems like after this installation I am having problems with my network. I can not get my Itunes connected to the store, I can't get my Mcafee to update, and I could not get a program for my Blackberry to update. I have tried and tried all kinds of stuff and I am really not sure what to do. As I was running some tests on my command prompt I got the System Error 53 message. Maybe yall can point me in the right way rather then me just googling everything and getting tons of different ways. I thought I would include this if this will help. Thanks to all in advance!!

I need some help and if anyone can help me I will be very appreciated. My system is Windows 7 Ultimate X64.
1. USB port.
I used to have a Lenovo thinkpad W520, the USB ports can still provide power and the devices connected to the port won't be disconnected after the PC turning into sleep mode even power off, but everytime when I wake up my Precision 7510, the keyboad need a long wait to be reconnected and all of the external hard drives are reconnected too (Auto play also pops out). And I cannot charge my cellphone even if the precision is in sleeping mode with power connected to it.

2. External Monitor,
I get a Dell P2417H monitor. I connect the monitor to my PC through Display port.
Then I use the Screen Resolution to Identify the monitor. I then use "Identify" to identify the monitor, at first both of the monitors show (1\2), which is correct because windows is set to duplicate the monitors. Then I selected Show desk top only on 1 and then "Identify" the monitors. Both of the monitors show a big 1. Then I selected show desk top only on 2 and then "Identify" the monitors. Both of the monitors show a big 2.(My p2417H is actually 2)
Then I select apply so only p2417H shows the display and close the laptop's lid. (I set the power options, so that the PC won't be turn off when I close the lid or after a long deactivation)
As long as I close the lid and turn the laptop into sleep mode and wake it up. The monitor setting... Read more

Some of what you're experiencing may be due to the different hardware than you had in the older system - however, one BIG possibility:
Windows 7 does not fully support the power management features of the Skylake CPU and chipset in your system.  Even if Windows 7 is correctly installed, there will be missing features (Microsoft never implemented the advanced Skylake power management features in anything older than Windows 8).
You'd likely experience some of the same issues with a Skylake Lenovo system.
The Skylake platform in your system WILL run Windows 7 (it's the last Intel platform that will;  the newly released Kaby Lake won't run it at all), but it won't implement all the Skylake power management features it has no drivers for (and never will have drivers for).  Unless you're completely stuck with Windows 7, most of the issue -- or all of them -- will go away if you move to Windows 10.  If you don't do it now, this is the last hardware you'll be buying -- as above, Windows 7 is history as of the release of the new Kaby Lake platform.

i load up my machine as per usual and norton antivirus cannot load up at startup because it says i have a corrupted or missing ccimscan.dll and defalert.dll.

norton seems to be ****ed up and symantec webapage has no solution, which also has coincided with my roxio cd buring version 5 basic. roxio doesn't load up at all, and also in windows media player 9, i cannot burn cd's as it says the roxio burining engine is not there and or the directcdbf.dll is missing.

i performed scandisk and all that shite and on that programme in windows where it tells you if you need to replace files ( can't remember its name). anyway the files that are corrupted are uneng.exe (which i found out is the roxio burn engine unistall programme???) and the tntlvr.dll is corrupted too. don't know what this tnt thing is but i am assuming its my tnt2 graphics card???, but it isnt showing any problems.

i have adaware and regulary use it, and hijack this only workd using the old version so i will post the log file thing here. i am totally confussed as all this happened out of the blue the other day. thanks in adavance. please help me

Recently, the WiFi on this particular laptop has been sub-par. Downloading the same file, the WiFi downloads at the rate of 70 kbps (pretty bad) while the Ethernet cable is at 700 kbps ~ 1000 kbps. I know that the Ethernet is almost always faster than the WiFi but the discrepancies are just jarring. I also noted that the signal strength is at maximum so distance isn't an issue. This isn't the case with other devices, such as my phone's WiFi speed, where I can stream HD Youtube videos with no problem.

Possible culprits:

Whenever I use Intel Driver Update Utility to attempt to fix the problem, it shows that I need to update my WiFi driver and my Bluetooth driver. The weird thing is that after I downloaded and installed those updates, it says that I need to install those same drivers after re-scanning for updates. This tells me that there's something fishy with this laptop's wireless drivers software-wise.

I have an Intel Wireless Dual Band AC 8260 as my wireless driver. I'm not really familiar with these, but I heard somewhere that there are certain frequency speeds (5 GHz, etc...) that need to be configured in order for the driver and the router to be compatible. The weird thing is that I've been using my laptop for 3 months now and it didn't have a problem until two weeks ago, which makes me think that this is a software problem.

Thanks for your help in advance!

A:Weird Intel Driver Update Utility problem? (Wi-Fi driver problem)

Are you on the first Win 10 or the Anniversary version. I noticed when I upgraded with a clean install with anniversary that some drivers are updated to Microsoft installed drivers but aren't 100% compared the first Windows 10 (non insider version) Even with severely outdated drivers all the driver dates are inside Windows are really off. They didn't fix something with drivers and updating them. Nothing extreme but its gonna give some people issues on older machines. I think with insiders earlier on Anniversary are using newish type PC's. My laptop is a 2013 model and nothing special but fully updated/optimized it amazes me. So its gonna take some trial and error with drivers.

I believe I have a virus these are the symptoms i am experiencing and what I have tried so far:-

1. I am having problems using google, sometimes when I click on results they go to another page, sometimes it decided i am not connected to the internet when I know I am.

2. I started by trying to run Malwarebytes but this would not open, then the same problem occurred with Spybot, it wont open.

3. I tried to scan with Trend Micro but the virus has prevented Java from working and so Trend does not work.

4. Tried to do a system restore but that says the drive failed during the restore.

5. AVG does not find any viruses when scanned.

6. Computer will not hibernate, it goes to blackscreen and then back to the desktop.

7. I managed to get Malwarebytes working by renaming the file from mbam.exe to mbam1.exe but now it freezes is not responding about halfway through the scan, have also told it not to scan registry items but it still freezes. Also after it has frozen it will not close even by trying to end the process.

So they are my problems can anyone help? Thanks

Try this scan. You can copy it over from another computer on a CD or pen drive if you need to.Before we start fixing anything you should print out these instructions or copy them to a NotePad file so they will be accessible. Some steps will require you to disconnect from the Internet or use Safe Mode and you will not have access to this page. Please download DrWeb-CureIt and save it to your desktop. DO NOT perform a scan yet.Reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".Scan with Dr.Web CureIt as follows:Double-click on drweb-cureit.exe to open the program and click Start. (There is no need to update if you just downloaded the most current versionRead the Virus check by DrWeb scanner prompt and click Ok where asked to Start scan now? Allow the setup.exe to load if asked by any of your security programs. The Express scan will automatically begin.
(This is a short scan of files currently running in memory, boot sectors, and targeted folders). If prompted to dowload the Full version Free Trial, ignore and click the X to close the window. If an infected object is found, you will be prompted to move anything that cannot be cured. Click Yes to All. (This will move any detected f... Read more

Hi! I have a few problems with a few difference softwares. I thought it would be best open on thread with all the problems other than opening multiple different threads.
My Problems are:

1) I use mozilla firefox and i have a problem opening PDF files. When i click on a link which leads me to a PDF file, the following error message pops up.
"The adobe acrobat/ reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser. Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and exit your Wev Browser and try again."
When I use Internet Explorer, I get a similar error message.
"The adobe acrobat/ reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser. Adobe Acrobet/Reader version 8 or 9 is required. Please exit and try again."
This message tells me to exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader. I don't exactly know how to do that.

2) The other problem I have is with Windows Live Messenger (MSN). This messenger allows you to draw in a conversation. They have a handwriting tool. The problem I have with this tool is that when I use it to draw something, what I draw doesn't appear on the place where I am suppose to draw before sending the message. But when I click send just by drawing something with seeing what is happening on my screen, I will be able to see what I drew in the message sent part of the window. I know this is confusing but it is hard to explain. So basically, while drawing something, I can't see it but when i send it, I can see it.

I am having this weird problem that makes me want to not use firefox. It only happens to me on my laptop. When I use firefox anywhere else I have never seen and it none of my friends have either.

It doesnt always happen as soon as I open firefox, but after using it for a few minutes it like firefox pushes the cursor on me while I am typing. It happens if im trying to write email, search on google, type in forums, and anywhere else I have to type within the firefox browser.

Also in internet explorer the problem DOES NOT happen.

For example: If I search for "redsox"
When I type in firefox it does this resoxd

The cursor moves backwards and pushes the letters forward causing misspellings and it gets worse and worse. Sometimes it pushes the cursor about 3 times per word and it is unususable.

I have completely removed firefox and re-installed which did not help.

I have run sfc /scannow and that didn't help.

I have seen like 1 other person post online with a similar problem so it seems to be rare but I dont know what to do.

Please help.

Hi Guys

I am new to this forum and have limited knowledge of computers.
I was using Firefox version 2 and was very happy until I was requested to download version 3. Now I seem to have endless crashes and keep getting told Firefox has a problem & needs to close. Up to 5 x a day.

This is very frustrating.
This happens with avg, facebook ,all internet functions.

I have spybot running and avg and says there are no problems.

We had a power failure earlier yesterday and when I switched back on Microsoft suggested I check the C drive as there was a problem -but that seems to have sorted itself out.-probably due to not closing down properly.

So can you help me with detailed instructions on how to fix forefox or totally remove it and install from the beginning or is there major problems with that version 3 .1 ?

I have no idea if it is the same problem. First of all I am using a wireless router, I have a internal wireless thing on my laptop. And I am able to connect and all but when i went to ebay.com and tried to log in, It leads to me a page as if I am not online. So I am wondering if it is my router settings or my laptop that makes it like that. Thank you for your help.
