I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

For the past 4 months I've not been able to log on to www.councilofelrond.com. I tried the standard stuff, changing browser settings, tried different browsers etc., but to no avail. I keep getting "The Page Cannot Be Displayed" / "Cannot Find Server Or DNS Error" message. It was suggested that the problem is with my ISP and this appears to be the case as others using the same ISP encounter the same problem, whereas people using other ISPs can access the site as normal. The solution offered for this (as my ISP is giving no help at all ) was to add the site IP to my hosts file. However, this has made no difference either. I've run various virus/trojan scans, all of which came up clean. When I tried to ping the site the result was 100% packet loss. I would be really grateful if someone can help out. Thanks.

I'm using Windows XP Home SP1 and IE6.

A:Problem Accessing Website

Hi,

If the problem is with the ISP then adding a proxy server may help. You can either use a public proxy or one of your ISPs. Its best to use one in the same geographic area as you so do a google search and you should be able to find one. Or you can contact your ISP and ask them if they have any proxies you can use. By the way, who is your ISP.
To add a proxy in IE. Open Internet Options, Connections, highlight your connection, then Settings, or LAN settings, depending on how you connect. Tick "use proxy server", and add the address you were given, use port 80 or 8080.
Incidentilly, best to remove the Host entry, just in case the website change their IP.

Hello,

Colleagues on another forum have no problem accessing a particular website (searchable archive of that forum) but I cannot get to it.

I have tried disabling Norton Internet Security as well as Windows Security Center -- in case they were inadvertently blocking it -- but still doesn't work.

The address is: avid.investsystems.co.uk

Any ideas why others can reach it but I can't? What other settings might be blocking it from my end?

Thanks.

Open an elevated command prompt and enter this command:
nslookup sitedomain

where site domain is the site you are trying to surf to. Don't put in the http://
also try it with and without the www if the url has the www included.

If it's a name service issue you should see it give the 127.0.0.1
If it gives other numbers try surfing to it using "http://" followed by the numbers returned by nslookup
(The double quote are just so it won't show as a link when posted. Omit them.)

where numbers ae copied and pasted from the nslookup info.

Hi all.
This is my first post here, I hope someone can help with this problem.

OK. Up until 2 weeks ago I was able to access the website www.24surfpro.com with no problem at all. Now I cannot access it with any normal browser or from any network with my laptop, I just get time outs or 'HOST NOT ACCESSIBLE' errors in the case of firefox. ( I can still access it throught torpark and through web based proxies like vtunnel etc..)

I cannot remember changing any settings that might have this effect, although It's not impossible to believe that I might have inadvertadly done something stupid after a couple of beers at some point!

Hi,
My girlfriend has a blog that she runs with another friend. She pays a couple of bucks a month for a site to host it (not sure what site) and I have been able to access it fine until just recently. Now I cannot access it from my internet, regardless of whether I am on my laptop, phone or her laptop. However, she can access it from her internet on her laptop, and I can access it from my phone if I disconnect from my wifi. We have tried in different browsers with no success.
Any ideas what could be causing this? All other websites seem to be working fine, and I have tried resetting my router.

Cheers.

www.rutlandclub.co.uk

The site displays for a second and then explorer gives a white screen saying 'site not found - wrong address'

The address line on explorer shows http/// - three slashes.

When I locate the site via google, same problem crops up.

However, I can access the site from another computer and on my blackberry.

I've cleared history and cache and deleted site from recently visited list.

Any suggestions welcome!

I know the website isn't down as I can access the website through the same router with my phone.

The few things i have tried is a dns flush as i can ping the sites ip address but not the car insurance credit card application at whatever.com address.

and a reboot.

Greetings,

I'm hoping someone here can help me with an odd problem getting into a single website.

Four days ago, my webhost moved my site to a new server. ONE person is having trouble getting to the new location from a SINGLE computer within the household. The message she is getting looks like the old location/IP is stored in the DNS cache, except she has flushed the cache (several times).

Another computer in the house and her tablet, both using the same wireless router, can get to the website. If she does a tracert on her computer, it goes to the correct server. She has checked the host file to see if there is an entry directing her browsers (she has tried with three different browsers) to the old/wrong server. There is nothing there.

So the computer WILL get to the correct IP/server using a tracert, but the browsers do not.

Any thoughts about what is going wrong? What have we overlooked?

A:Problem accessing a single website

Also on the browser:
delete AutoComplete data
delete Browsing History
uncheck "Preserve Favorites website data."
then delete the Temporary Internet Files and Cookies.
ipconfig /flushdns
restart system

Trying using one or all of these Chrome, Maxthon, Opera, IE, Fire Fox try all these browser do you get the same results. If just one browser causing this issue uninstall the browser in re-install it. If it's IE then, clear out the system. Ping the the site your trying to get too from that browser. Does it time out..

Use Microsoft FiX-it Reset TCP/IP or follow the examples given on the link below.

2.) When I wanted to go to a website on IE, it always asked me if I wanted to continue browsing unprotected, which is tied to #3.
3.) Alerts for Winiguard keep popping up. I know this isn't a useful thing, so I need to get rid of it.
4.) An alert keeps popping up telling me my computer is low on memory and tells me to close programs or cancel.

I have tried a number of programs and scans to delete these, but have only made small progress. Numbers 1 and 2 seem to be fixed for now, but the Winiguard and 4th alert are still there. I don't really know what else to do, any help?
Thanks so much!

I have 2 issues. I don't know if they are related somehow.

1. I installed PrivaZer and deleted it. It still shows up on the right click context menu. I tried to reinstall it and deleted it again. I still have that problem. I even restarted the computer. How can I get rid of the entry?

2. When I try to click on/install some downloaded .exe files, I get a message: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file." It hasn't happened with other file types yet.

I scanned for viruses and it didn't find anything. I wasn't sure what to do. Thank you.

A:Context menu item problem and accessing files problem

When you said you installed it then deleted it. Do you mean you uninstalled it ? If you deleted then there are left over to be cleaned, You must uninstall not delete.

Please download: ShellExView - Shell Extension Manager For Windows . Right click and run as Admin, locate the extension in question. If you double click it, it will tell you where it is stored on the HD, you can disable first then delete.

hello there, i am really going nuts with this problem and i hope here i will get some form of help, highly appreciated.

so for work i have to login often to this website > https://webadmin.ccbill.com/ and http://affiliateadmin.ccbill.com/ - these websites are on a https connection and when you login to the page, you should get a cookie and then you access it.

this always used to work, but then all of a sudden stopped working, i have 2 machines, my regular work machine, where it used to work until "something" happened and then my laptop which has a very new windows installation just had same thing going on,on the desktop i have IE 8 and on the laptop i have IE 7.

on a side note, i tried these websites on a different machine connected to the same network, say my dads computer and works fine, so indeed is "something" that happened on my machines.

other than THIS problem both machines run fine and i ran every kind of anti spyware, malware and so on, im pretty good at doing maintenance on the comps but this time it really got my nerves.

i have done extended tests, removed add-ons, reinstalled javascript, resetted IE to "factory defaults" with the new option from the advanced page, etc etc. and this is the ONLY website that is not working when it comes to cookies....the website has both javascript and cookies that go together with so it could be even something to do with the java setup even tho it's new and other websites with java st... Since this past sunday i have not been able to access it from any one of the computers in my home (we have three, two wired one wireless to the router) The page simply loads as "cannot find server" however i know there is nothing wrong with the actual site because it is up and running on other members computers just fine. I've cleared cookies, temp files, and am currently going thru an entire clean out of my computer because of a recent virus hacking in another thread on this board. I was just wondering if anyone could help me figure out what is going on or what to do to figure out what is wrong? Any help would be greatly appriciated... thanks!

Hey guys,

I've been racking my brain on this for a while now, and I can't seem to put my finger on what's gone wrong. Maybe i've been working on it too much now.

trying to access fldoea-public.sharepoint.com from the company website and the page cannot be displayed on any browser on any of our domain machines.

Accessing that same page from outside our network works fine.

The website resolves correctly in the DNS when i try NSLOOKUP --> 191.234.154.27

Tried TRACERT and can only get to the Firewall and not beyond.

I can view any other website perfectly except this one.

Checked with my ISP and they said we don't seem to have anything blocking our outbound connections.

We have a Sophos UTM9 Firewall setup... and none of the web filtering options are enabled.
Any ideas on what I might be missing ?
Thanks for any help you guys can provide !!

Hi,First of all, THANKS for the wonderful service that you folks are providing. I think you're doing a great job.I recently contracted the fake AV Security malware, which took control of nearly everything. I downloaded and MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, which found/removed about 13 infected files. I originally posted over in the Windows forum but got pointed here due to a possible infection. It started when i tried to access the command line in windows xp by going to start -> run -> cmd. I would get the following error:

c:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.com
c:\program files\symantec\s32evnt1.dll
an installable virtual device driver failed dll initialzation...

it turns out that cmd.exe was not getting executed but another file cmd.com was instead. I deleted cmd.com, and now the command line works properly. however i was curious as to know where this came from so i did some research and found these files as well:

c:\windows\system32\NETSTAT.COM
c:\windows\system32\PING.COM
c:\windows\system32\REGEDIT.COM
c:\windows\system32\TASKKILL.COM
c:\windows\system32\TASKLIST.COM
c:\windows\system32\TRACERT.COM

I found out about them when i tried to run netstat, and got the same error, and same when i tried to ping. I deleted all the .com files and everything seems to be functional. I was just curious if anyone has ever heard of this or experienced it. Think its malware related? Here is a HJT log just in case it helps.
