Q: Thinkpad Yoga 14 - System firmware update problem

Hi All!Using the Lenovo System Update tool, I've updated the bios. It said everything went succesful.However under Device manager, there is an error for the System Firmware:"This device cannot start. (Code 10)Indicates a revision number encountered or specified is not one known by the service. It may be a more recent revision than the service is aware of."I've tried "Update Driver" but everytime with this same result.I've also tried "Uninstall Device". But then it goes back to a driver from 2006 (indeed the error is gone) and when I update the driver, the error is back. Also, after the update (during booting the computer, it says it was successful), the update is still listed under the System Update Tool, indicating it actually didn't install (see below). However, just trying it again, doesn't result in a different result. Does anyone have a suggestion what could be going on?(I think the bios update, which just a few days back became available, is related to certain security problems that Intel was having...)

Get a messagebox saying "battery not detected" and it's not charging from mains. So laptop has now turned into a desktop... as needs plugging in continually... making it almost useless for purpose. This happened exactly after firmware update a few weeks ago. By coincidence the management software also kindly informed me that it could manage the battery better and stop it wearing out by only charging up to 90% - fair enough, but don't treat me like a muppet and disable it without any way to get it back. Tons of Windows 10 updates today (after not being able to use it for a few weeks) but still no battery. I tried F1 BIOS but nothing there to enable the battery (only to disable it). This is frankly a joke - timing shows it's due to the firmware update because the battery was fine and lasted a couple of hours right before. In 25 years of countless laptops, have never had this problem - batteries weaken gradually but don't suddenly lock up and require a paid replacement suddenly. How do we run down our original battery properly before polluting the planet? Phil

Hello,     I was recently prompted to install the following updates but I am unsure as to what they mean and if it is absolutely necessary/recommended to install them. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.  Edit: My BIOS update also asked me to choose from two options: Update BIOS or Update Model number.  I have updated neither as I am unsure what it means and why I see that message. Hello everyone, Lenovo System Update keep asking me to install version 10.0.56.3002 of Intel Management Engine Firmware on my ThinkPad Yoga 12 (Type 20DK) running Windows 10 Pro x64. Once I install the update, a cmd window pops up for a fraction of a second, then my PC restarts. However, the installation seems to fail as System Update keeps asking me to install the update again after the reboot. I understand that this update is security critical and therefore want to resolve the installation error. I've done a little debugging by running MEInfoWin.exe and FWUpdLcl64.exe in C:\DRIVERS\WIN\ME:The update seems to fail indeed, as MEInfoWin.exe still reports my FW Version as 10.0.55.3000.When I try to manually run the upgrade, I get an error:C:\DRIVERS\WIN\ME>FWUpdLcl64.exe -f ME10.0_5M_Production.binIntel (R) Firmware Update Utility Version: 10.0.56.3002Copyright (C) 2007 - 2017, Intel Corporation. Sorry, I am not a native speaker so that the description below may not be clear. Last night when my laptop attempt to upgrade its Intel ME firmware, the system appears a blue screen with words "A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed". After that, the procedure of boot of my laptop became "auto power off twice after press the power button, then it will boot into BIOS itself". In other words, it likes: t0: Power button pressedt1: Screen was turned on for about 1 sec, then the whole laptop powered off.t2: happen the process of t1 againt3: boot into BIOS I guess the Intel ME firmware was broken. I tried to googled for related information but found nothing. I swear I will not upgrade my BIOS or Intel ME firmware anymore... Then I downloaded the Lenovo Recovery Image and used it to reset my computer into the factory status, but the issue still exists. I think it is because the Intel ME is a independent chip to the OS, so even recovery cannot help. Thanks for your kind help.

Why isn't there any avaliable Thunderbolt Firmware for my laptop? Thunderbolt products is not being detected by the laptop. I have ThinkPad Yoga 730s / s730 81J0. Docking station is Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 dock (1st gen). The USB-C port detects other devices, but not TB3 devices such as this dock.

Hi all, I've been reading tonnes of threads here trying to solve my problems (which seem to keep getting worse) to no avail. I'm reaching out to anyone that can suggest some help before I end up bricking my yoga by accident or running it over on purpose. Said clean install went flawlessly with Windows 10 installing the first time with no issues or errors. Since I had performed a clean install, all my previous apps, including the stock Lenovo apps, had been deleted. I had anticipated this and only really desired to reinstall the app that automatically adjusts the screen orientation when folding the cover back. So in an effort to find this app and any Windows 10 related updates that may be available I went to support.lenovo.com and used the handy Lenovo Bridge app to automatically detect my hardware and suggest relevant updates. While combing through the suggested software I noticed a BIOS update that noted added support for Windows 10. I'd try to re-update the BIOS using the same version, but from a flash drive instead of from within Windows. I am still fighting with "260 will not wake up from sleep problem" described in my post: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/ThinkPad-Yoga-260-cannot-wake-up-from-s... I tried everything, fresh restore (5 times), boot from linux live, the laptop can't manage correct sleep, hybernation and even a simple shutdown. I can only switch on and off by pressing power button for more than 10 seconds. I tried to update the bios (from the lenovo website or from a bootable ISO) but it does just half of the job, when it tries to restart do finalize the process it goes again in a frozen state and can only restart by pressing power button for long time. Ok my laptop is out of warranty, but this has been clearly caused by a lenovo update, before that the lapotp was performing perfectly. There are several people with thinkpad reporting the same problem, lot of them with my same 260. Hello everybody, I know another thread with similar problems here, booting three times ect .... but not with the new specific problem, this one seems to be new to me and I hope for a solution without the technician having to change the Hardware Motherboard. I had the original ME firmware and now an update was made by Lenovo Vantage, but this unfortunately did not work properly and led to the following: 1. at boot the "Strg P" entry has disappeared 2. in the Bios the entry with ME Firmware Version is empty 3. ME is shown as deactivated or not present in Hardware Manager, The result is that you can no longer perform flash if ME is no longer present in the system. 4. When restarting or reactivating, it will take about 35 seconds for the Lenovo logo to be displayed and the system will start up  this is all very frustrating, i hope that there will be a software solution, or maybe someone knows a solution .... Thanks all for support.....

I'm unable o update the TPM firmware in an X1 Tablet (model type 20GG003UUK). The firmware update utility reports:TPM manufacturer: InfinionFirmware Version: 6.40Spec Version: 1.2 When I perform the update it says it is updating to 6.43. It appears to work, in that it says it is doing the flash, the tablet reboots, but afterwards, when I run the utility again, it remains on 6.40. HiI updated Windows 10, and now my external screen only displays 1280x720 pixels instead of 1920x1200. I cannot add this as a custom resolution in the intel driver, because there is "not enough bandwidth". This is the case if I connect it with the HDMI output on the laptop as well as the HDMI output on the OneLink Dock.I installed all the newest graphics drivers, didn't help. Any other solutions?

I bought 2 batteries original Lenovo 4.4Ah for the tablet on ebay. The battery was sell as new.When I try to charge it just blink ornage and no charge. The seller refuse to take back the battery telling the price was low take as it is. He said all other batteries he sell where ok however this was the last one they sell and they where few years old. Then I did open the battery case and mesure the voltage all batteries was zero. I decide to charge evey single cell wit USB charger and a resistor. I was able to charge all the cell to 3.5-3.6V with a total voltage of 14V. However the pin of the battery show 0V. After reading on web I find out that the firmware is in Ram and consume some power. The for such long period of time drain the battery to 0V, very good design.... to sell battery. With no more power since it is ram the firmware is gone.In any case, I am afraid to buy new battery to get same problem since it is old computer. I have found that there is a lenovo utility for firmware utility but my computer is not in the list. Can I try or there is another solution. Only solution out of firmware update is buy a used working battery and replace with the one I have taking care to keep power during replacement (this is quite touchy). I thought may be to use a similar battery as Thinkpad X61 and just change the case. Maybe there is another third part solution. I am frantically trying to upgrade the firmware on my Tpad G41 28865YU CDRW/DVD drive (GCC-4241N).  I located the driver update fix in the FWod01 CD firmware update package.  Unfortunately, this package only is available on a multitude of diskettes which most laptops - including do not have.  Fortunately, Lenovo at some point accumulated the 1st 8 firmware packages (FWod01-FWod08) into a CD-boot disk update .iso file for download and CD drive install.  Fine.  I brought down this .iso file and created the appropriate boot CD and ran it:  *FWoD08 here* I had traced the needed firmware version to 0202 as documented in the documentation for my GCC-4241N drive.  Unfortunately, the 0202 firmware never somehow made it into the FWod08 package which only contains the original 1.04 version which is the problem.  So, the documentation and the contents of this FWod08 is incorrect.  Any chance of getting this rebuilt, or made into a new CD boot iso with the GCC-4241N 0202 firmware?  The updates have gone upto FWod09 but that is back to diskettes.  Or - is there some way I can get the 0202 files to add to my current FWod08 CD disk? PJV

I have a recently purchased X1 Extreme, with fully updated system (according to Lenovo System Update) and running Windows 10 v. 1903.  Following some lost functionality / freeze-up of the mouse pointer, I first tried deleting the Synaptics Trackpoint in Device Manager, then rebooting. This "fix" worked, but the problem repeated itself.  So I followed the usual path - look for newer drivers in Lenovo Support.  So I looked at the X1E Drivers & Software page and downloaded the TrackPoint Firmware Update Utility from:https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/n20g902w.exe Running this program gave me the following error (screenshot should (?) be attached):"Fail to enter Transparent mode" And now the TrackPoint & TrackPad do not work at all.  I am using an external USB mouse ... with my ultraportable laptop.   I searched and searched online, of course, and found a solution seems to have been found for the same problem on the X1 Carbon 6th Generation.  The solution involves downloading the SYNAPTICS Touchpad Firmware from the Lenovo site at:https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/LAPTOPS-AND-NETBOOKS/THINKPAD-X-SERIES-LAPTOPS/THINKPAD-... But ... no such update for the X1 Extreme.   HELP...!!! Updates in January, 2019 via Lenovo System Update have removed the headphones as an audio playback or recording device in Device Manager and Windows Audio settings menus. Disabling related audio devices and uninstalling drivers completely have not solved this problem. Device Information:ThinkPad P52Machine Type: 20M9CTO1WWWindows 10 Here are some of the updates that I believe were installed- Updated BIOS (Dec 21, 2018)- Realtek Audio Driver (Dec 24, 2018)- Thunderbolt Firmware (Nov 14, 2018)- Thunderbolt Software (Dec 12, 2018)- Thinkpad Video (Jan 29, 2019)

This is an old issue, but looks like Lenovo still has not removed this offending firmware from the site (or update it or add a fix). Anyone got any resolve on this issue, or is the "send in your device" the only option? This looks like getting punished for allowing Vantage to continually update your notebook. Hello. Back story, our company has purchased and now rolled out our Lenovo X1 Yoga laptops (model 20FQ).  During the rollout, we installed all of the drivers from lenovo's site via the MDT driver package and then deployed the latest System Inteface Foundation so we could install teh Lenovo Settings app later down the road via the Windows 10 App store.   We have not installed the lenovo settings or lenovo companion apps from the store but are now receiving reports of users getting a message from "Lenovo Companion" that an update is available.  The update that is available is an Intel ME firmware update.  Is there a way to disable or prevent these updates from pushing to users via registry or configuration file? Does the System Interface Foundations app contain the Lenovo Companion app or the update features?   Screenshot of update message attached.  We do have the ADMX templates for Lenovo Companion and Settings in our AD/GPO; would disabling updates in the GPO for Companion prevent these from running even though we don't really have the actual Companion app installed?Thanks!Further details:Win10 x64 Enterprise Edition 1607 build w/all latest patches/updates.

Does the System Interface Foundations app contain the Lenovo Companion app or the update features?   Screenshot of update message attached.  We do have the ADMX templates for Lenovo Companion and Settings in our AD/GPO; would disabling updates in the GPO for Companion prevent these from running even though we don't really have the actual Companion app installed?Thanks!Further details:Win10 x64 Enterprise Edition 1607 build w/all latest patches/updates.

A:X1 Yoga and Intel ME Firmware update being pushed but how?

Lenovo System Interface Foundation (LSIF) is doing this.  The only purpose of this app is to support Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion, so if you don't install these apps, there is no point to install LSIF.  One of the features of LSIF is to automatically install "critical" updates for Lenovo software and drivers, such as this recent Intel ME Firware update.

Chapter 4. Considerations for Deployment
 
Lenovo System Interface Foundation contains some features which may not be appropriate for enterprise customers.  Please read this section carefully to understand these features and consider whether they should be disabled in your specific environment. 
 
1.  Automatic Updates ? Lenovo System Interface Foundation updates itself automatically whenever a new version is posted to the Lenovo website. Some IT organizations will want to disable this.  The automatic update can be disabled by registry.  To do so, copy-and-paste the below text into a .reg file and then import it into your registry:

Hello Lenovo friends! I've been a huge fan of ThinkPads-- my first was a T400s back in 2009.  And I've definitely found them to be solid, reliable machines.  I purchased a ThinkPad X1E last November and just encountered a new problem today though-- when I use my TB dock and play video, I've been getting BSOD messages.  I've connected the dock to two monitors, one via DP and the other via HDMI.  The Stop code is "DRIVER_VERIFIER_DMA_VIOLATION." I've read online that to fix this BSOD, you simply download and install the latest TB firmware update.  So I tried doing that today. But when I go to install the firmware update, I'm getting conflicting instructions!  The first dialog box says, "Please do not plug the Type C or Thunderbolt device to your system while updating the Thunderbolt Firmware." The second dialog box instructs, "Please connect at least one Thunderbolt device to your PC..." What is the correct step to do?  I only have one Thunderbolt device and that's my dock.  Should I connect it to my X1E while I'm updating the TB firmware?  Or not?  I've read on other forum posts that other X1E owners have actually bricked their docks when performing TB updates so I'm very concerned about that too.  Can someone please advise?  Thank you! PS.  Here are some of my system details too, btw, in case that helps:My Product #:  20MFCTO1WWMy BIOS version:  N2EET37W 1.1... A couple of days ago i updated the Intel Management Engine Firmware to version 9.5 through the Lenovo System Update software. Imediately after restarting I noticed how much slower the computer was. It took some extra time to boot up, and was much, MUCH slower at starting up apps like spotify and firefox, etc. I also noticed a massive slowdown when playing. The task manager shows a normal usage of CPU, RAM and GPU, I'm usually at no more than 40% and I can still notice the slow down at all times. Is there a way to roll this update back? Do I have to wait until another not-messed up update? Thanks in advance.

Purchased a Lenovo Yoga 910 Signature Edition from the Microsoft Store 3 months ago.Lenovo Yoga 910-13IKB 80VF Signature Edition I do not see it on the Lenovo Spectre/Meltdown bios update list. Is there an ETA for a bios update for the Yoga 910 Signature Edition to add new Intel CPU firmeware to address the spectre issue? Thanks very much.

Hi all, Yesterday when I turned on the computer and logged in into windows, a warning-window poped-up asking for recomended "Firmware Update" by Lenovo. I ve proceeded with the update. After an intall-restart I wasn't able to log in with my fingerprint anymore. After a small investigation I've realized that are now three devices with problems (Code 31) in my device manager.The devices are:Biometric Devices - Synaptics WBDI - SGXSensors - HID Sensor Collection V2System Devices - System Interface Foundation V2 DeviceSo, besides the FingerPrint, I'm not able to use the Auto-Rotate (when turning the lid into tablet or tent mode) feature and the Lenovo Vantage Software since it asks me to update the System Interface Foundation Driver. What I have tried so far:Reinstall (since I can't rollback) the Firmware Driver: "Type C Firmware for Windows 10 (64-bit) - Yoga 920-13IKB, Yoga 920-13IKB Glass 1.3" (since there isn't a lower version to roll back)Reinstall all drivers from Lenovo web-page (FingerPrint, System Interface Foundation, Chipset, Display, Audio, etc)And finally, Reinstall the operating system Windows 10 64 using system restore I've not clue what to do next and I'm really avoiding opening an RMA. Please help me. Thank you.

I see a lot of people asking this question, and the best answer I have seen so fare is that they are working on certifying Intel's firmware update on all vulnerable Lenovo systems as fast as they can, and will release the firmware updates as soon as possible.

This is a heads up message as I was able to recover my system by doing a grub2-install booting from a recovery USB. I must say I had used `fwupdmgr update` before to update my Thinkpad's firmware and it worked flawlessly. However, this last update left my boot pointing at the wiped out Windows boot in UEFI, which rendered my boot broken. If anyone from Lenovo is listening, please try to avoid breaking Linux user's systems .
