Q: Netgear internet card doesn't work- Dell Inspiron 1000

I have connected the Netgear wg5112t card to my Dell Inspiron 1000. The driver is installed. It shows connectivity, but it will not connect to any open networks. Does anyone know any tricks?!! I'm at a loss.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi....All

I recently bought Dell Inspiron 14R N4110, which came only one default partition (C:\) with Windows 7 Home Premium.
But later on, I did one more partition (D:\), and I installed all drivers(which comes with Dell laptop). but some how my internet is not working properly. Sometime its too slow and not connecting.

I reformatted the laptop, and Restored the modem/router to factory defaults (in that order) neither helped. But if I restored my laptop to factory default (which I don't want, because it has only one partition C:\ ), than everything works fine. Why its happen ?

I hope that you people will be a big help.
I greatly appreciate your help.

Thank you.

Hi...I'm not sure where to put this request, thought since the Dell Inspiron 15 is running Windows 10 (including latest update) that there might be a conflict between the desktop and the keyboard down in the nuts and bolts somewhere. I can turn the machine on, the capslock light comes on, SOMETIMES the keyboard works well enough to input the pin to get the desktop booted up. Sometimes I have to go through steps to get the touch screen keyboard up in order to input the pin. However, as soon as the desktop is active, the keyboard no longer works. I've updated the drivers, don't know what else to do. When I try a search online for a solution, I get differing ideas on how to solve the problem. I've tried resetting the BIOS to default settings, that didn't work. Any and all help will be much appreciated. I really need the keyboard to be working, my kids do their homework on my laptop.

Thanks in advance for any help.

My Dell Inspiron Laptop which runs on Windows Vista will not start properly, the screen will go black after loading, this is before i can get to the log on stage. There is only a cursor which i can move.

I then started Startup Repair and it performed the checks, but my computer still wouldn't start. I then tried System Restore which didn't have a backup. I clicked the link to create a backup, but it said 'Your computer is running in a limited diagnostic state'. I have tried running the Windows Vista disk and it doesn't change anything. I have tried every method I know of, but I cannot get my computer working. Is there any other way, if you know please help me.

A:Dell Inspiron Laptop wont start and System Restore doesn't work

One last thing you can try is to press F8 while booting and on the next menu, select the 'Last Known Good' option

Hello,

I have a Dell Inspiron 1000 that had been cleaned out with Malewarebytes. When it finished cleaning up I rebooted the computer. The laptop began to reboot and then a notification came up regarding activation of Windows (XP). I click yes and the wallpaper comes up with no icons. It stays in this state of limbo and then goes into a reboot loop. If I click no then it boots up to the wallpaper mode, then tells me that window is already activated and then goes into a reboot loop. If I try to boot in safe mode it tells me that I need to activate windows in a regular mode. Any ideas or help will be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Strugoi

Hello members and guests,

Here's the problem sometimes the comp just wont finish starting.
The Fan comes on when the power is turned on, with the power supply light, so the power supply seems to be ok. The hardrive spins as does its light come on.
sometimes you can hear it go through the boot sequence and see the lights flash.
One time it goes all the way loading all software. next time it wont make it past the start screen.
Also installed speedfan to check the temp and the hotest i could get it was 42c
Dell has this neat hardware checking program at the start screen, ran all the tests and everything passed.
So how do i find out what my problem is ?
Is there a way to check hardware like the MB

Thank You, jpass

A:Dell Inspiron 1000 - screen won't come on

your battery is probably completely dead. Some laptops will not boot with a dead battery but will boot with a battery that still holds a trickle charge.

replace the battery and see what happens. Also post in the correct forum next time (mobile computing.)

hi , i have a dell inspiron 1000 laptop and have had it for almost a year now . ive have noticed that the laptop gets very hot when on even for short periods of time , and the exhaust vent at the rear blows only very hot air out. it has a intake fan underneath the laptop but since that is always in direct contact with the table the intake of cool air and circulation is poor
it has been hot like this from the time i bought it and as yet has posed no problems.
i would like to know if it is normal for a laptop (mine in particular) to be this hot when on and if any of the cooling methods for laptops such as the notebook coolers are either good or useless in cooling the laptop.
i would like to get at least a few more years use out of my dell so id like to know if the heat will affect its lifespan.

any help much appreciated , many thanks in advance

A:Hot laptop (dell inspiron 1000)

I'd say its normal.

I can't keep my ThinkPad on my lap for more than about 30 minutes before it gets very uncomfortable.

As long as you actually feel hot air blowing out, you should be ok.

I had the same problem when my graphics card died and then it has also happened to me when a HDD died and got it working by disconnecting the power cable to faulty component. Ok so I was given a Dell Inspiron 1000 today and can't boot it as it wants a password. I don't know the previous owner so it's not like I can call them. I am waiting on a Transfer of Ownership to process with Dell to see if they will help me. But in the mean time, I wanted to see if anyone on here could possibly help me. As soon as I hit the power button, it turns on, and the screen goes black with a blue box that says "enter password". Is there a way to bypass this??? I've tried reinstalling windows, but the CD won't boot. I can hear it spin, but nothing happens. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!!!

My laptop won't power on. When I press the power button the yellow power light flashes for a second & then nothing. Someone told me that it might be the CMOS battery since I've never replaced it. If any knows I would like to know where it is located & what exactly is involved with replacing it. I have removed every screw on the bottom but can only open halfway. I don't know what is preventing it to open. Hope someone can help. If it sounds like a serious problem then it might not be worth fixing. Thanx

Hello all hope someone can help.

I got hold of a dell inspiron 1000 laptop from my friend that is in an good working condition. The story goes. At first I formated it using the recovery partition on the hidden partition. Managed that ok. Moving on, I decided to install my own custom windows installation. Managed that with no problems. Got to downloading and installing Windows Updates and went to shut the laptop down but it asked me "Did I want to install the updates first, and then shutdown" so I said yes and went out. When I come back about an hour later the laptop was turned off obviously as I'd expected but it wont turn on now.

When I go to turn it on from the power button it goes to start up. Nothing on the screen or anything though. And then it seems to make a quick spin down noise. The only way to try turning it back on then is to remove the battery for a few seconds and try again but it just keeps doing the same thing.

I don't think it's the hard drive because it was working fine before the updates and I put my other laptop hdd in it and it still does the same thing.

I'm thinking it might be the battery. Maybe it has died completely? Should I buy a new battery to find out? Is it worth spending the money on such a thing for an old laptop like this? Although it's still not bad and is running quite fast with the custom windows install it's running. Just a pre-tweaked copy with no useless bells n whistles. But I'm th... Read more

at first i thought the keyboard was damage so i went ahead to change the keyboard to a new one and problem persist. i change the cmos battery. i went to a friends computer with same model and the keyboard works perfectly on his laptop. i formated the hard drive and put window 7 thinking it might work but stil nothing works the keys stil playing up i re-started the computer this wont solve the problem. everything is well connected from the keyboard connector to the mainboard. i even went ahead to flash the bios this does no good. please help!!!

A:Dell inspiron 1000 keyboard problem

If you've reinstalled windows and replaced the keyboard - the problem has to be in the connection to the motherboard or the motherboard itself.

Have you tried an external USB keyboard? Does that give any errors?

The video card I was interested in:
www.amazon.com/.../ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza
My current specs from Speccy if that would be useful to anyone:
Operating SystemWindows 10 Home 64-bit
CPUIntel Core i5 4460 @ 3.20GHz 26 °CHaswell 22nm Technology
RAM12.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz (11-11-11-28)
MotherboardDell Inc. 088DT1 (CPU 1) 28 °C

Storage931GB TOSHIBA DT01ACA100 (SATA) 36 °C
Optical DrivesHL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GHB0N
AudioRealtek High Definition Audio
I'm using the power supply that came with the computer (I assume 300W?) along with the above specs. So my question is will this video card upgrade work with my Dell Inspiron 3847? And if so, will I need a new power supply, or can I keep the one that came with the computer? If this upgrade isn't realistic, then a recommendation for the right direction to go towards would be appreciated as I am very new to messing with computer hardware/building or upgrading a computer.
I heard that the size of the video card could be a problem for the Dell Inspiron 3847, but this one is only 1.5 x 5.7 x 4.38 inches according to Amazon, so I'm pretty sure it is small enough for the case.
If anyone can help a newbie out then that would be greatly appreciated. If I am missing any details that are needed so you can help me I will try to provide with those if I can.

There isn't anything really going on in your logs. Just a few registry entries and a program to get rid of. I personally wouldn't run any of those registry cleaners/boosters on my computer because they usually create more problems in the long run.

My Dell Inspiron 17R 5720 doesn't recognize charger any more. And unfortunately my warranty expired 2 month ago.It was plugged in and working in the morning, but then in the afternoon I noticed that it was running on the battery only. It wont start without battery (just charger plugged in).
1. So here what I have done to debug. Me and my brother, we have purchased the same Dell laptops at the same time a year and a bit ago. This is why for a debugging purposes it was good.I took my charger and plugged in to his computer. And it works. Definitely not the charger issue I guess. And when I plug charger in to my computer, green light is still on the charger. And I have the original charger that came with the laptop.
2. Now, laptop works on the battery only, so this means that motherboard is working. I guess.
3. Next thing I did was unplugged charger and removed the battery from the laptop. Then I pushed and hold "Power" button for 45 seconds to discharge a flea charge. Plugged charger back in but laptop wont start.
4. Next I started laptop on the battery, went to BIOS and checked if the charger is recognized in the BIOS. No, it doesn't recognize charger. So, if it is not a charger then what else can it be?
5. Laptop doesn't have any strange smells so I'm not sure if anything happened with the motherboard, but I would assume mother board is ok because it works of the battery.
6. I was thinking updating the BIOS, but I can't, because it wont update whi... Read more

A:Dell Inspiron 17R 5720 doesn't work with charger. Charger is not recognized. Not charger problem.

Hi CJ777,
Thanks for reaching out with your query. You pretty much figured out all points of failure. Good job.
If the adapter is not detected in BIOS, it most likely is an issue with the mother board. In the BIOS set up, AC adapter should show up as 65w or 90w. If the adapter status is 'None' or 'Unknown Device Installed', it indicates that the mother board is not detecting the adapter for which the battery is not getting charged. Once the battery charge drains, I'm sure the adapter will not charge it again. Replacing the system board should resolve this issue.

I'm having problems setting up my Dell RG-1000 and TrueMobile 1150 card so that I can connect wirelessly to the internet. I'm a college student living in a dorm with WiFi and I'm home for the holidays, so I'm having to set this up again to pick up the RG's signal. Stupid me deleted all the properties of it because I didn't think I'd be bringing my computer back home. Lesson learned. Anyway, every time I've done it (at least 5 times) I have to do everything differently. It's really starting to bug me.

I can get the RG to recognize the wireless card and everything, my computer says it's connected to the wireless network and is able to send packets, but isn't receiving them back. Or so it says in the properties window. I pinged the RG's IP address though, and it sent AND received all 4 packages without any problem. Tried pinging various websites - not a thing. I ran ipconfig /all and I'm going to post what I got in another post because it's really long. It's saying something about a Pseudo-Interface and it's showing IP addresses I didn't know were possible.

I'm not understanding a bit of what's going on, and I'm pretty well educated in computers. My computer is self-built with an Intel mobo, P4 processor (2.8 GHz), WinXP Pro, and the card/RG are the Dell TrueMobile 1150 wireless PCI card with Dell RG-1000 gateway. I have an hp pavilion dv6 1355dx win 7 64bit intel core 2 duo. The wifi was working fine with my remembered connections and connected automatically within range. Then it started saying limited connection and would not let me browse the internet. After trouble shooting it said "There might be a problem with the driver for the Wireless Network Connection adapter" So I uninstalled reinstalled Intel(R) WiFi Link 1000 BGN it was listed under network adapter so I'm assuming that means it is the adapter but I was told it is the driver. Still confused on that. A friend suggested that I delete my remembered connections now it just says no connections available.

Under network adapter properties even tried changing the channel width for band 2.4 thats Value was set 20 MHz only to Auto, as I was instructed by my college IT guy. I've searched for the drivers installed the one on the hp support site. According to my model i have Atheros Wireless LAN Adapter, in the devices supported list nothing that I thought was the adapter or driver was listed. Downloaded the file they said contains the driver for that adapter...didn't seem to do anything other than install. Tried rebooting still nothing. Anyone have any ideas or is it just a lost cause?

Thanks

Allison

A:Intel(R) WiFi Link 1000 BGN wireless internet won't work

You could try backing up your data and re-loading your system from your backup software or from a restore point from before the start of your problem? That way the network adaptor will have a working driver installed.

I have a three years old Dell Inspiron 530 desktop (no warranty left).

Couple of weeks back what I did:
1. Suddenly the CPU fan started speeding with noise
2. Opened and cleaned the video card (ATI Radeon) fan which accumulated some dust
3. Also cleaned the CPU fan and put some thermal paste between CPU and fan base which was almost dry
4. The fan speed and noise was gone (fixed) and everything worked fine again

Two weeks later... new problem encountered again:
1. The computer doesn't boot up
2. When power turned on (front switch), the keyboard and mouse LEDs flashes momentarily and stay turned off
3. The front power switch stay solid blue

4. No beep sound heard (beep code is HERE)

5. CPU fan speeds with noise (as experienced before)
6. Monitor stays dark (tried also with the onboard video monitor pins), nothing come up (no BIOS, no DELL logo, absolutely nothing)

Test done so far:
1. Did CMOS reset (followed exact instruction as documented in the Inspiron 530 user manual from DELL): No luck = no boot, no monitor, no BIOS, fan speeds
2. Removed all peripherals (ATI video card, HDD, CD-Drive, Multimedia ports, ethernet card): no luck
3. Removed all memory cards: I could hear 2 consecutive beeps (according to DELL document: 2 beeps = no-memory found error)
4. Inserted memory card once at a time and turned on power: 2 beeps stops but no-luck
5. Connected all peripherals one at a time and tuned on power: no luck
6. HDD is OK (checked the HDD connected with another comp... Read more

Hello everyone I have a very pressing problem. I had Vista running on my Inspiron 1520 Laptop. I recently upgraded to Windows 7, ever since then I have had terrible trouble with my Wireless Card. The driver for the card often comes up as not being able to start I often get Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card can not start Code 10. I have read that this was a problem when reinstalling a OS or installing a new one with this card. I believe I may need a driver for the chip set or something similar. I also understand that I may have to swap back to Vista though I really do hope I don't. I do believe that a recent update from Dell has made this problem chronic as I did not have this problem when I immediately got the laptop back.

I really am hoping that I can get some help here as Dell is not bothered to help as I am out of warranty and they don't seem to care about this older model laptop.

Thanks again for all your help

Conor,

Dear all,

I have had this laptop for over 3 years now and I found that one day, when I switched it on, the HDD light, the num, caps and scroll lock lights all lit and then 2 seconds later, they stopped. The power light was left on however. I could hear the fans spinning but nothing booted. The hard drive light was not blinking either, indicating operation. I did some research and tried the PSA alternate boot method (pressing FN and power ON) and there was a led code:

Num lock - flashing
Caps lock - ON (continously)
Scroll lock - OFF

I have tried removing all the components and powering on one by one after removal but this did not work either. I reseated the RAM modules as well in different places but to no avail. I also tried booting from AC supply only with the same results.

Can you help me find out what happened to my laptop? I would be very grateful for ANY response on this urgent matter.

Cheers, Fishpan

A:Dell Inspiron 6000 doesn't boot up!!

I would think that this is a problem with the operating system. I'm not 100% sure, but however, if you want to check, get an hard drive enclosure for $10 - $15 on newegg. Then unplug your hard drive and plug it into the enclosure and plug the enclosure into another computer and see if the OS files are intact. You could also plug your hd into another laptop and see what happens, if it boots, then the problem is not your hardrive.

Hello,

After re-installing Windows 7 on my 1,5 years old Dell Inspiron N5110 laptop, my laptop won't shut down anymore.
The laptop has every symptom of shutting down, it will do all of the updates when there are, the screen will go black after 'shutting down'.
But the laptop will always be making those 'think' noises. Also there are some of the lights still on. After it gets in this 'state', I'm also unable to turn on my laptop again.

It will turn off when I push on my off button for like 5-10 seconds.
But that won't be too good for my laptop doing that all the time...

Now, my laptop will get in sleeping state, but than again.. I can't wake him up again.

Edit: I forgot to say, since a few days, it will just 'turn off' out of nowhere.

Is there anyone who experienced this before, or who can just help me out?
The nice Dell Support won't help me in any other way then by using the phone, but that doesn't seem like a perfect way of solving a problem in my opinion, therefore I'm asking your help.

Hope you get this, my English aint too good.

Thanks,

I just purchased a refurbished Inspiron 3147. The computer does not wake from sleep mode. Instead, there is a blip of power and then the system shuts off completely. Some things I have determined through testing and observation:
- The power does come on momentarily. This is confirmed by the flicker of light in the power indicator and the brief charge indicator for a USB connected phone.
- The hard drive does not Shut Down. It just goes dead. I confirmed this by testing a handful of software items, including Open Office, Evernote and Chrome. All had recovery dialogue on restart, though there was no Windows shutdown error dialogue.
- This doesn't matter how sleep mode is initiated. All of my Power Management options are set to Sleep Mode. It happens when I initiate it by closing the laptop lid. It happens when I initiate it through the start menu or charm bar. It happens when I initiate it via the login screen.
There is another issue which may or may not be related and that is the touchpad. I'm given to understand that the touchpad is a real issue with this particular model and I intend to address it in a separate post. For the purposes of this post, I will just say that it will not initiate until I manually go in and disable/reenable the trackpad through the control panel. The trackpad settings are inaccessible on startup through the system tray even though the icon is there and clickable. It just won't load. Sometimes it takes several attempts to load it thr... We bought a low end Dell Inspiron B130 notebook running XP that only came with a 90 day warranty. Sure enough, soon after that 90 days expired, the computer stopped working. It was being used during a storm apparently (while I was out of town) and supposedly there was some power outage even that didn't affect the other computers on the same outlets, but just this Dell notebook stopped working.

When started up, the power and harddrive lights flicker on, and the screen lights up, but nothing loads and the screen stays black. Is there some way I could use a boot disk or reload BIOS or reformat the harddrive, or even figure out if the computer is completely fried or can be resurrected? Any help would be really appreciated, as DELL will have nothing to do with me now that the 90 days is up.

Thanks!

Welcome to TSG...

With what you describe that has happened I would suggest t call Dell and ask them where they suggest that you take the computer for repair and that should be a Dell authorized repair center. You never said how many days past the warranty this is and if it isn't too much after the warranty I would talk to a supervisor about the problem.

THis sounds like something went south, east and west all at the same time. I think a repair shop might be the only way out of this. I really hope I am wrong.

If you have the recovery disks and can set the computer to boot to the CD-ROM drive you might want to try doing a repair if that option is in the recovery disk. I also would try to get into safe mode and try to use some of the diagnostics that are used thru there.
