Crazy Happenings in Outlook 2007: Cursor in compose & Spell check crash fun

Q: Crazy Happenings in Outlook 2007: Cursor in compose & Spell check crash fun

Thank you to anyone who can give me a hand in advance. These two problems have been puzzling me for a while. I doubt they are linked - but they could be I suppose.

I have Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 (12.0.6316.5000) SP1 MSO (12.0.6320.5000) installed apparently. This came pre-installed from Dell. I have tried re-installing it from scratch with no luck. This is a Microsoft Vista Ultimate machine.

I compose email's in HTML, though I have tried Rich and plain text

The symptoms:

*Spell check problem*
Spell check is set to do its checking before sending.
I compose an email and hit send.
If there are no spelling mistakes, the email sends, no problems.
If there are spelling mistakes, the spell check box window appears as you would expect. After the correcting routine I occasionally get a box saying (something like) "Do you want to spell check from the beginning" - clicking either Yes or No will crash Outlook.

*Cursor problem*
While composing an email, I will randomly loose the ability to use my mouse to position the cursor in the message area. I cannot position it, select text, right click - anything with the mouse. I can use the keyboard with the arrow keys perfectly fine though. I find it strange how this only effects the message box - the other fields, such as subject, to, cc etc, are unaffected.

I should explain that this machine is used by a blind person. It has Dolphin Supernova installed - a reader and magnifier product. These problems are present with and without Supernova running.

Thank you for any help you can give me!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am running windows 7; microsoft outlook 2007 and microsoft home office 2010 (word, powerpoint and excel). when i try to set up autocorrection in the editor options of outlook, it does not allow me to check certain functions (eg, capitalize first letter of sentences). is this because i am running 2007 outlook and 2010 word? is there a workaround?

I am aware of a very common problem concerning Outlook Express only being able to spell check in French after you install Office 2007 but, I am NOT USING Outlook Express. This is a fresh installation of Office 2007 with no prior Office installations existing on the system. The system is an iMac running Parallels 3.0 with Windows XP Pro installed on the virtual machine.

The symptoms: The user will be creating or responding to emails when suddenly, she realizes every word is underlined in jagged red as if it were misspelled. If you right-click for suggestions, every word suggestion is a french word. Auto-correct even auto-changes a few words into French format.

If you save the affected item as a draft, close the email, and then reopen it, the spell checking is back to normal. I've checked the Regional Language settings in XP + keyboard layout .. all English US. I've checked all of the language settings I can find inside of Word and Outlook, all read English US.

I'm at a loss! Recommendations? Thank you very much

Help, my spell check is driving me crazy,I think I may be infected.

In word or excel 2007 (I don't use other ms programs)
my spell check continuously pops up to check my spelling. As soon as I press escape or close it, it runs again, and again, and again.

I have tried changing my options, I have re-installed office, run my anti virus etc.

the Problem started 1 - 1.5 years ago and has gotten progressively worse and is currently making work impossible.

Please help.

I'm not seeing any malware here and the fact the issue has been plaguing you for over a year, this sounds more like a problem with MS Office.

I would suggest posting for assistance and troubleshooting in our MS Office Support section.

When I use Outlook 2007 to compose an email, all is well until I reach the bottom of the compose window. When my message wraps to the next line, Outlook jumps to the TOP of the message, rather than scrolling down, so that the cursor and typing point is now off the bottom of the window. I have to do a Ctrl-End so I can see what I'm typing. This has been consistent, and my searches on this board and on the larger web have failed to point toward the solution.

This happens on two separate computers, so it doesn't seem to be unique to a particular configuration. Is there a default setting I've missed? The only other anomaly that might be a clue is that composed messages appear on the screen extraordinarily large, even though my font is not (and emails received from my computer don't appear large). With nearly 40 years of computer experience, this one has me stumped, so it's probably something embarrassingly simple. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi drbenson, welcome to BC.
Sounds like maybe the wrap to window option is enabled.
In Outlook 07, click File>New>Mail Message.
Next, click the Office Button>Editor Options>Advanced.
Under "Display E-Mail Content", clear the "Show Text Wrapped Within the Document Window" option.

I'm stumped on this one!

When I go to compose a new message, either forwarding, replying, or a straight compose, I can't simply click contacts, I have to search for them in order to add them to TO, CC, or BCC. It's very annoying. I could always do this in Thunderbird, but haven't figured it out in Outlook. Any ideas?

But since i need to write alot of letters for classes i need to have the Dutch Spell check. ive tried to change the custom dictionary for dutch only, but there's no Dutch in the language list. So does anyone know if i can download the dutch dictionary for word 2007? it would really help a lot

A:word 2007 Spell check

I have Word 2007 (from Office Enterprise 2007) and I checked and it has two different versions of Dutch as language proofing options (Review / Proofing / Set Language). Perhaps you didn't install all the languages when you did the initial install and running it again to get the others will give you the option. Make sure you don't actually have it before you look for options or purchase add-ons that will provide it. If I have it, it seems likely that you do as well but just haven't found or installed it. I did not buy any special language options with the suite (unless Enterprise includes some that other suites don't - I'm not sure).

The Dutch Language pack for Office 2007 (much more than just the dictionary or just the Proofing Tools) can be purchased at: Microsoft Office Online. I could not find a free download of just the Proofing Tools for Dutch (in effect, the Dictionary as you are calling it) at Microsoft or on the web. But it's only about $25 so it's not that expensive if it will be so useful to you.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

Have a user whose spellcheck will not work in Word 2007. I have checked all the settings under proofing and checked to make sure there was an add-in enabled that would stop it. All of a sudden my spell check has stopped working. I am using Office 2007. I showed to the technical staff members of my university but none of them could figure out as to what could be the reason.

In fact, three times, we deleted (uninstalled) the Office 2007 from the laptop and then installed but it did not solve the problem.

Some one suggested that I have to reload operating system-XP again. I was wondering if there could be another way to solve this problem without re-installing XP.

I'm trying to figure out how to get spell check to recognize "wan" and "meting" as misspelled words. I usually mispell the words "want" and "meeting" in the above manner, but spell check regonizes them as words. I want spell check to put the red squiggly line under "wan" and "meting" so that I can correct them accordingly.

I've tried looking for the dictionary in the regular paths of:

c:/users/<user>/applic data/roaming/microsoft/proof (and Uproof)
c:/docs & settings/user/application data/microsoft/proof

but it only has the CUSTOM or exclusion dictionary in these locations. I have the folders un-hidden so that I can see/find the above paths.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

My wife and I both have Windows XP on our machines and she said she could not use Spell Check in OE.
So I went to "Help" and it stated, "Outlook Express uses the spelling checker provided with the following Microsoft Office programs. Word,Excel, and PowerPoint. If you do not have one of these programs installed , the Spelling command is not available".
The next thing I did was to download a trial of Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007.
It has all these programs. After installing it I went back to OE and misstyped an email message then clicked on spell check and I got a box that stated "An error occurred while the spelling was being checked". I then clicked on "send" and got "the spell check on this document was halted. Do you want to send it anyway?".
So even with the Office Home and Student 2007 installed I am back to square one, can't use spell check in OE.
My question is can I do anything else in order to use the spell check in OE? without having to buy an expensive program that does not help in the trial version anyway. Or do I just forget using spell check.
I had no problems using it with Windows 98, it seems to me they always want to get in your pocket by having to buy something additional to make something else workable.
I sure would appreciate any information anyone could provide as to a way to bypass and somehow be able to use SpellCheck.

Welcome to TSG!
Will not have much time this morning since I have to leave early but OE Spell checker as IE spell Checker function use MS Word or MS Office spell checker. If neither are installed or are having a problem OE Spell check will not work or exhibit the the same error.
If you do not have Word or Office installed you will have to do so before it will work. If you do you may have a corrupted file or an error in the registry. Here is an example of the registry for the US spell version. Note the two files that are required.
Hopefully someone else will pick up on this problem, if not I will revisit later today.

I have recently moved to Windows XP, which came with MS Office 2007. I am still using Outlook Express for email. In the email, my spell check defaults to checking with a French dictionary.
