WHY MY LAPTOP STUCK

Q: WHY MY LAPTOP STUCK

Hello
My laptop is Dell Inspiron 14 N4050.
The problem is why it stucks in BIOS and cannot go to windows after I tried installing Windows 10 last time. That time the screen showed "there is not complete drivers inside". After that when I shut down forcefully and turn it on back the screen appeared in blue color and saying please call technician.

These happened after I send my laptop to a Computer shop for reformat. Then backed home I downloaded the new Windows 10 OS and after completed the laptop cannot be used. I think maybe the shop that I send my laptop do not put all the drivers. and the result my laptop cannot be upgraded and now cannot use anymore. many files located inside and I cannot take them back. so sad. please help me.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: WHY MY LAPTOP STUCK

First thing to do is run an extended hard drive diagnostic - the root of all the problems could be a bad drive.
F12 at powerup.
This system doesn't have official support for anything newer than Windows 8 -- though some have reported 10 will install and run (the audio is the part where the drivers usually fail).

My mom was updating her laptop and it told her to restart her computer to finish updating. She restarted it and a message came up saying "Updates were not configured correctly. Reverting changes. Do not turn off computer." It froze and she restarted her laptop again. It went back to the same message and is stuck on it. Does anyone know of a way to fix this?

A:Laptop stuck

Try bringing up the Advanced Startup Options by tapping F8 as soon as the laptop is turned on.

Then highlight "Last known good configuration" and press <Enter>

Hopefully that will get you into Windows but it won't solve the update problem.
It could be caused by malware so please post on the malware forum as we aren't allowed to help with malware on the non-malware forums.

I was confused that Factory install was Vista , but Boot Logo shows XP as you stated later , so you are running XP now ?

Either way , that error code usually happens within XP and can be contributed to the hard drive or actually booting fully.

Hello I'm using a HP Pavilion dm4. My laptop's battery seems to be stuck, I usually remove it when I use the laptop at home where it'll be plugged into the socket. I inserted the battery back in one day and I can't seem to remove it now. The latch is all the way to the left when the laptop is upside down where the opening of the laptop is facing me. Is it supposed to be on the left or right? The latch seems stuck and I can't move it to the right.  helpp meeeecheers.

A:Laptop's Battery seems to be stuck

Hi Tycobb,    I found your post because I just had the exact same problem, with the same computer.  The latch for the battery should be all the way to the right when the battery is plugged in.  You'll know if it's in the right place because you'll see an image of a battery under the latch.  I honestly can't give you a technical answer on this, however, I was just messing around, and I got a hold of a membership card for a store....the same type of card you'd "key" a door with.  Anyway, try and pry out the top part of the battery outward.  Be very gentle and careful.  I was worried I would break it, but once I got a good grip, the battery just popped out and the spring-loaded latch went to its' correct place.  I only did this because I have a warranty, and I was willing to take a chance.  Maybe someone else will have a better idea, but this one worked for me. Good luck! Max

Hi,

I'm struggling with this, hope you guys can help.

Sometimes when I go to Start -> Power -> Shut down, it displays the "Shutting down..." window, then the screen goes black, but the laptop won't turn off completely. That is, the WiFi, Bluetooth and Power (light bulb) indicators are still on (and the battery indicator too if plugged), and I have to force (power button long press) the laptop to shut down. I can also turn off the WiFi and Bluetooth devices using the keyboard at this stage (with FN button). And if I keep the laptop this way long enough (unplugged), my battery will be completely drained.

I say sometimes because this seems to just happen randomly. I could shut down my laptop at some point and it will turn off just fine, but a few hours later when I shut it down again it will get stuck.

I googled and tried everything I could come up with but nothing seems to work. I tried 1) taking the laptop apart, disconnecting and reconnecting literally everything I could see, 2) cleaning my laptop, 3) resetting Windows and BIOS to factory settings, 4) replacing my SSD and installing Windows from scratch, and 5) formatting my HDD. Googling for solutions I mostly found people suggesting disabling Fast Boot so obviously I did that too.

The only change I made before this started happening (at least that's what I remember) was disabling hibernation (cmd admin -> powercfg -h off), so this may be related, but I'm not sure. This seems hardw... Read more

I got someone's old laptop with Win XP on it.  It has a lot of problems which I was going to ask for help in another thread, but now I have a new problem.

I ran a CHKDSK while in Windows, and it told me it couldn't complete in read only mode.  I set it to run the next time Windows starts.  Now it's in an endless cycle of scanning.  It will scan (which takes hours), reboot and scan again.  If I hit a button to skip the scan, it hangs and won't start Windows.  If I try to boot to Safe Mode, it hangs as well.

The last thing to load before it hangs while booting to Safe Mode is:
WINDOWS\System32\Drivers\aswRvrt.sys

I'm lost, I don't know what to do at this point.  Any suggestions?

Thanks!
Drew

I have Windows Vista on my computer. In the boot menu there were three options on which OS I could use. I could either choose Earlier Versions of Windows, Windows Vista or Windows XP Professional setup. In advanced system settings I set Windows Vista as my default OS and then checked the box so that it would wait 0 seconds before booting up. Now it is automatically booting up to Windows XP setup. It starts windows but then stops and I get a message that a .sys file could not be found. It makes me restart my computer and then it automatically enters into the same setup. I can't get out of this loop. I tried putting in a recovery disc and having it boot from my CD drive. Nothing is working. How can I get my computer to boot with Windows Vista instead of the bad setup file? I don't care about losing the information on the drive. I just want to be able to use my computer. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I have a sony laptop that will get stuck in hibernation. Hitting the power button does nothing. If I hold down the power button it will start fine. Removing the battery and pluging it back in also works. Also the fan stays on when in Hibernation. It almost seems as though the laptop never goes into hibernation all the way. This results in a battery drain.

I've tried the following to resolve the issue
1. Checked power settings, they seem to be normal.
2. Took battery out and held the power button for 30 seconds.
3. Left battery out for several mins.
4. Same thing happens when plugged in with AC adapter without battery

Sony does have a power manager, but it seems to not be default, windows power manager is running. Is there anything else I can check to see why this is happening? Thanks.

When a laptop is starts, you usually would usually see something like the following:
1) "Windows is loading files..."
2) "Starting Windows"
3) "Screen where you log into your computer"
4) "Computer Desktop"

However, what I saw when I started the computer was the following:
1) "Windows is loading files..."
2) "Starting Windows"
3) "Light grey screen where I can see and move only the mouse cursor"
and an intermittent low volume cricket noise (for lack of better words)
4) no change from 3)

Someone gave me a free refurbished version of ASUS U50F-RBBAG05 because it gave the above problem.
So, despite being a noob (but not a noob noob) at fixing computers, I tried to make a clean install of Windows 7.
However, the laptop decided that it didn't want to install the software--(clicked on install button and waited 3 hours).
The laptop just stayed at 0% progress.

So, I was like, "Okay, so let's TRY to restore this thing back to factory settings via Recovery Partition."
Although I waited on the Light grey screen for about 30-60 minutes, I finally got to the screen that I needed.
Alas, although the laptop did "start" the recovery process, it ended up the same--0% progress and did not budge

I know that the Windows 7 installation disc was not the problem--I had 3 other installation discs (all legit).
Since the laptop decided to not move from 0%, I figured that getting the ASUS res... Read more

A "cricket noise" and Windows failing to load during startup is a good indication the hard drive may be dying.

They don't last forever, and they tend to have a shorter life in a laptop than in a desktop.

Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.

Hi @Littletigger35 Welcome to the HP Support forum. Happy New Year ! This is happening because the computer cannot successfully and fully load Windows. This may be hardware problem or software problem. Did you perform some change recently ,something new these days, last hours before the issue started ? Perform hard restart/forced reset. More info and how to here >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01684768/    Please, perform some basic hardware checks 1. Please, shutdown the computer using the power button2. Power it on.2.1 As soon as you press the power-on button, immediately begin hitting the Esc button (like tap-tap-tap).This should open a HP Startup Menu which may look similar to this one 3. Choose F2 to open System Diagnostics. Follow the on-screen instructions to perform System Test >> Quick test. This will check major hardware componets for issue (do it just in case) . Here is more info >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03467259#AbT1 If there are no system checks/no quick tests, perform HDD and RAM check. Let me know the test results. If the tests pass without issues, continue. If not, please, let me know 4. Repeat steps 1-2 above but when HP Startup menu opens, please choose F11 for System Recovery options. The computer should boot from it's recovery partition to open you various recovery options. Note, that F11 option will only work if the recovery partition is there (not deleted... Read more

I bought a used HP laptop hard drive for upgrading my Lenovo G550 with CPU ugraded with Intel T9300 DUO CORE 2.50ghz (HP Hard Drive: Laptop Thin HDD 500GB SERIAL ATA DISC DRIVE S/N W627S9NL P/N 756731-001 MFG Seagate Technologies DOM 8/2015)  I was happy to see that the hatd drive had Windows 7 already installed because I had already bought a separate legitimate Windows 10 Pro License Key for the upgrade. I was able to go online and download the Windows 10 upgrade and used my purchased legitimate license key to activate my the upgrade.  While doing the installation there was some HP software that was still on the HD. I thought it would be good to have some extra security protocols, so I also installed the WinMagic Securedoc Bootloader v1.2.12 and registered the HP Drive Encryption  with password and Security Questions for secondary access. The Windows 10 was activated and all looked great. But when I restarted the laptop I put in my password for windows and then it goes to this HP Drive Encryption Screen comes up. I put in the password and it's accepted - and then the screen goes blank...not off..just blank with a flashing cursor that doesbn't react to inputs. I tried leaving it on for a day or so, and still nothing.  There's nothing I can change in BIOS Setup that works so far.I've also tried downloading Reimage on USB and re-setting the boot sequence but no good. Even tried a boot disc, but nothing there either. I will try again.... Read more

A:Used Laptop HP HDD upgraded to Win 10 Pro with key now stuck...

Sorry ... I missed the part about you having a Win10 license.  I thought you were trying to activate 10 using the HP OEM license and that was causing problems. I don't use the HP encryption apps -- as personally, having recently finished a career in InfoSec, I find the whole emphasis on encryption of PCs to be laughable -- but my guess is that you're basically out of luck. If it were my drive, I would WIPE the drive of all its contents and then install Win10 afresh.  A good product for doing that is DBan:  http://tiptopsecurity.com/how-to-securely-wipe-your-hard-drive-with-dban-erase-your-data-for-good/ Once your drive is clean, then just install Win10 on it. That said, with any luck, one of the HP EXPERTS will probably come along and tell you how to bypass their encryption. Good Luck
