Thumbnails in My Pictures don't match the pictures

Q: Thumbnails in My Pictures don't match the pictures

I just went into my pictures and while I was looking for a few certain pictures in the filmstirp view I noticed I have a buch of older pictures where the thumbnail shown at the bottom isn't of the picture in the filmstrip view or the name of the picture.

Any idea why this is happening and how to fix it? Thanks

Preferred Solution: Thumbnails in My Pictures don't match the pictures

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

In Windows Explorer a folder of 53 jpg pictures do not display correctly using Filmstrip mode.

When you select a thumbnail, the picture displayed does not match the thumbnail.

Any suggestions on fixing this?

I tried viewing the pictures in the folder on two two computers with the same results.

Had that on a pc once . . had to move the files to a new folder, delete the old folder, then create it again, then move the files back . . not very elegant, but it worked.

Hi Robyn, Welcome to SevenForums.

Sorry if i have misread your issue but you could try...

Thumbnail Previews - Enable or Disable

1. Open up Windows Explorer
2. Click on the down arrow next to Organize, which is located under the Back and Forward navigation buttons.
3. Select Folder and search options
4. Under the View tab, uncheck the first option "Always show icons, never thumbnails"

Hope this helps.

I'm not getting any thumbnails showing for any of my pictures, .jpg, .bmp, .png, etc.

I tried deleting C:\Users\xxxxxxxx\AppData\Local\IconCache.db then rebooting, no change.

I suspect I turned something off to see how but forgot to turn it back on. How do I get thumbnails to show for my pictures again.

I looked through gpedit but did not notice anything.

This is what I'm seeing. I can change the icon that shows by changing the default program.

Hey Rich,

Double check to make sure that you have thumbnail previews enabled.

If you do, then double check to make sure that you have either the modern Photos app (default) or Windows Photo Viewer set as the default program for all of it's associations.

If the View is set to show Thumbnails, see MS Article 243401.

A:Thumbnails In My Pictures Folders

I think this may work:Click Start > Control Panel > Folder Options > View (tab). Then check (enable) the checkbox for "Remember each folder's view settings".After that, the system should use/apply the view setting that you most recently used in any particular folder (on a folder-by-folder basis).

Recently, I have noticed that whenever I try to view pictures in Windows explorer using thumbnail view I do not get the actual picture. Instead I get a default picture, ie the sail boat with red sky.

I was doing some "research" I found that a possible fix was the "regsvr32.exe /i shdocvw.dll" command.

Yet I get an error as soon as I run it. It displays the following message:

"DLLInstall in shdocvw.dll failed. Return code was: 0x80070005"

Any suggestions what I can try to solve this problem?

My machine runs WindowsXP and, a couple of weeks ago, I reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled WindowsXP from scratch. I had saved my digital pictures onto a CD and, once the reinstall was done, loaded them back onto the computer. They don't "present" in the way they did. They take an age to load with the thumbnails showing parts of pictures or part of picture titles. Some thumbnails don't show a miniature picture at all but display one of the universal pictures that looks like a sheet of paper with the top right corner turned back and a coloured rectangle in the middle.

I have tried "refresh thumbnails" and that's o.k. while I'm in thatt folder. However, if I close it off and reopen the folder later the problem is still there - plus it's still slow to load the pictures.

Any ideas?

If you've got photoshop installed, it could be a problem with PS parsing the thumbnail images instead of just letting Explorer do it. On any one of your images that its doing this with, right-click on it and go to Properties. Select the Photoshop Image tab, and uncheck Generate Thumbnails. This should fix the problem. If that's not the issue, then I'm afraid I'm not any more help for ya.

Btw, I only made this account to respond here, because it took me days to figure out what the problem was and I don't think anyone else should have to suffer through that struggle. lol

Hey all,
I've been searching, and I'm sorry if it's painfully easy to find but I just can't work out what I should be searching for.
What I want is a program/gadget/feature that looks at the picture I have as the desktop background and changes the colour of the aero theme (the bar at the top of programs and the taskbar down the bottom) to match the average colour that is in the desktop picture and I want it to do that dynamically so I can use windows 7 changing desktop picture without having to run or interact with the program every time.

Does anyone know of anything that does this?
Thank you
also sorry if this didn't make any sense I've had an operation recently and I'm on some pretty awesome painkillers...

Oh and possibly also change the colour that is used to back the picture as well since I use the fit setting.

Hi,

Whilst on holiday, I accidently wiped all the images from my digital camera's memory card (not overly clever I admit!). When I got home I sent the card to a data recovery specialist who restored the images from the card to a DVD and sent it to me.

When I load the DVD and navigate to the pictures on my computer, however, the initial thumnails for the pictures load showing all of the details of the photo, but then seem to automatically refresh a second later, this time showing big grey-ed out areas in the photos. If I then open the images, the grey areas also appear.

It sounds a bit weird I know. But it seems that the data for the whole picture may be there given that the thumbnail initially shows the whole picture. Am I being too optimistic or is there a chance I can recover the whole of the pictures still?

Many thanks for any help anyone is able to provide.

Cheers,

David

When i go into my pictures from start menu, all my pictures have no icons/thumbnails.. They only have descriptions underneath..
When i click on the description it suddenly stops responding.. Bit strange and is doing my nut in! :D

The major problem is that i cannot view my photos but i also cannot upload onto sites such as facebook as a result..

Note: I have scanned for viruses/trojans and there is nothing..

Could these files have been moved or something.. Any help appreciated..

A:No thumbnails in my pictures folder.. Files lost?? Then not responding.

I cannot quite imagine how it looks. What do you mean that there are only descriptions underneath? Are you referring to the image name?
Have you tried right clicking on one of them, and then choosing "Open with..." and open them with one of your image programs?

Hi,

Finally! Anyway, back to why I am posting again. I want to put the pictures that I saved from the My Pictures folder back to the My Pictures folder. I have set one of them as the new desktop background. (It was before the format). I have looked in Help and Support, but I can't seem to find anything. I have typed in "Export Pictures from CD to My Pictures folder" without the quotes and I get a list of links pertaining to CD recording errors and other things like that. I did right click on a picture in Drive E (my CD-RW) just to see what would come up and I noticed that on the Send To menu that these pictures can be sent to the desktop. Is this what I should do then? Send them to the desktop and open them and send them from here to the My Pictures folder? It can't be that easy, can it? Let me hear from anybody.

Hello!

All the pictures in my Pictures folder have disappeared, leaving behind a bunch of empty folders. I did not delete them, and I have no viruses according to AVG. It appears that this happened to a few others on this forum, but no solutions were presented.

If it helps - I noticed that the Read Only button was checked on the main folder, so I unchecked it, and I watched the status window un-apply "read only" protection from all my actual pictures files, so it seems to me that they're still there but invisible.

I performed a system restore, and Recova is in the process of performing a "Deep Scan" for my pictures (the quicker scan did not find the files). Has anyone solved the problem of the disappearing pictures? Is this a Vista problem, or perhaps a problem with an update? Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Read only shouldn't have anything to do with it. Have you checked the Recycle Bin and AVG's quarantine? Is the Hidden attribute cleared? Have you installed any new programs or updates?

I am using an old Dell with XP and Internet Explorer 7. When previewing some images I have stored in My Pictures, I find when using the 'previous' and 'next' buttons I am able to pull up the next or previous pictures as I should. But when I e-mail an image to myself and then use the 'next' or 'previous' buttons, I begin to get images from web sites I have recently visited even if it is just my home page. While scanning my home page, for instance, I collect dozens of images in a matter of minutes. The 'properties' of these images show when they were created and this began on 11/27/08. The only change I have made recently is a download of info from a digital camera disc to enable me to store pictures from my new camera. I did a system restore to a couple of days before that download but I'm still copying dots, dashes, logos and pictures or frames from videos. Is this something anyone has encountered or heard of? I'm wearing out my delete button. Thanks for any advice you can give.

However, in my fifteen years of computer experience I know that I would personally have to download those photos to mu computer in order for them to be viewed. A family member has posted unrelated pictures on E-bay. We are trying to think and there were no e-mails opened, no photos looked at, nothing between the time that this happened, (Last Night.) Because a family friend who is into photography sent nature pictures through E-Mail, I just assumed it was from him and said, "Oh, I put those pictures that you downloaded last night in a folder, and the other computer user in my family said, "What pictures?"

I don't use Photo Sharing of any kind, My Avast Anti-Virus log shows now threats. All of the pictures are OLD. BUT here is the interesting thing, of the photo specs of them so far that I can see, they were taken by a person who has the SAME type of camera that we use on this computer. BUT we just got the camera last year and no one else has used it. The dates on those pictures go back from 2000-2003.

There is no evidence of anyone using any photo sharing application software. The computer runs as well as as ever. Any ideas?

Do a search by date for the dates a day before and a day after the picture date. Maybe those ppictures were attached to some album or video show viewed recently and automaticly posted to MY PICTURED folder. Or perhaps the person who did email you mistakenly included some pictures, maybe even by forwarding an olld email from the picture taker.

When attempting to delete pictures in "My Pictures" with XP, the pictures get copied again and again into "My pictures". It moves the pictures into Recycle bin and also copies them again.

PLEASE HELP ME! I receive pictures from time to time in my e-mails of my grandkids, etc. Unfortunately whenever I use the roller on my mouse to scroll down, there are pornographic pictures hidden behind my pictures. How can I rid myself of this nuisance once and for all. For some reason Norton Antivirus does not proctect me from all things. THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Greetings;
I did a re-installation of Windows and before doing so, I  saved all my documents and pictures on USB sticks. Now I want to selectively put back things that I saved back into my computer. I have no problem getting documents to documents but there is no option to put pictures back in to pictures.

Maybe if you describe in detail how you got "documents to documents" we'd be able to figure out how to get "pictures back in to pictures".

When I open "My Pictures" via the start menu or if I open "My Documents, My Pictures" from within Explorer I can view the thumbnails and go to sub directories, but when I go back up a directory or leave "My Pictures" it takes a while. Here's the weird part. If I go into the same directories only take the long route in (Open Explorer, C:, Documents and Settings, User, My Documents, My Pictures, Sub Directory X) then when I click to go up the directory or back out it's almost instantaneous!

Here's what I've tried:
Delete thumbs - this helped quite a bit...from taking 30 seconds or more down to about 3-5 seconds.
I've copied the entire "My Pictures" to a temp directory, Del "My Pictures" and then recreated "My Pictures" and copied them back.

Just an idea...do you have indexing enabled? If so, you might try access with it temporarily disabled.http://www.daniweb.com/forums/thread4500.htmlLouis
