T560 - HDMI issue, no sound and no detection of the screen

Q: T560 - HDMI issue, no sound and no detection of the screen

Hello all, First, I apologize for my english, I know I'm not the best at this language but I hope you will understand my problem. I've got a Thinkpad T560. This laptop was with Windows 7 and I upgraded it to Windows 10. Unfortunately, when I plug my HDMI cable, I have the image on the second computer but no sound. All my drivers are up to date.Furthermore, I can't find the HDMI device (my TV) in the taskbar (I mean in the right-bottom corner). I have tried a lot of solutions:- Update drivers- Click on the sound icon and show the disabled devices in the playback menu- Update drivers from Device Managers etc.. Could you please help me to find a solution ? Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Good day,

I have an unusual situation with my HDMI and would like some advice or ideas.

I have 2 TVs with HDMI input, both LG (I believe 32LH20R and 22LH20R).

When I connect my hdmi to 22lh20r, the sound device says "not connected".
When I connect to 32lh20r, everything works fine.
If I connect to 22lh20r after connecting to 32lh20r, the sound device is now detected!
But when I reset my computer, the sound from 22lh20r says "not connected" again.

I tested two notebooks on it so far, and could reproduce on both. One with a GeForce 9600M GT and the other with a GeForce GT 540M.

I think that this could be some issue with the TV, but since it work after connecting to the other TV, I was thinking if there is a way to force the detection, or to force the driver from one TV to the other, or something like that.

Thanks in advance.
Gui

A:Issue with HDMI sound detection - unusual situation

Additional information:

I tryed to override EDID, with phoenix edid editor and monitor asset manager, but had no success with that. Turns out that they only collect the first 128 bytes from the edid, leaving the CEA extensions out, and this would be where the EDID stores whether the monitor has audio or not. =/

Also, it seems like it's not possible to "force" the playback device to "be detected", or at least I didn't find a way so far.

If anyone could help with EDID overriding, or this way to trick windows into believing HDMI sound is connected, I would appreciate a lot!

Thanks,
Gui

To enable movie viewing on 55" LCD TV

This is a pain in the rear for me but it is the only way to get the HDMI audio recognized as a valid option in Audio Playback devices. (Video always works but the audio is says not connected)

To get the HDMI Audio detected, I have to....
First - On my TV I have to select the HDMI channel that is connected to my PC
Second - I have to un-plug and plug-in the HDMI cable. (I can hear the Windows 7 found hardware sound)
Third - Now I can select HDMI as my default audio device (everything works great)
I usually have to repeat this process any time the PC or TV gets shut off. I am worried about wearing out the HDMI port by plugging and un[lugging so often. This can't possibly be the way it is supposed to work.

This is not an intermittant issue - it is a matter of the ATI HDMI detecting the audio connection and is very repeatable and consistant. All drivers ATI and VIA audio are the latest to date as of today.

Maybe it is the Plug&Play component - TV has to be on when turning on the PC or I have to manually force the detection process (as above)

Video = ATI 4550
MOBO = ASUS P7P55D-E LX

A:ATI HDMI Detection of Hardware issue

I have read many post on this issue and First of all yes the TV must be on at all times on the HDMI signal if you don't want the signal broken don't turn the tv off use you're power saving feature

Let windows turn the monitor off for you that way simple mouse movement will bring back the screen also you should be able to right click and disable onboard then enable the HDMI sound by right clicking

I might add using power saving feature is the only way to keep from breaking the HDMI connection also i don't advise any heibernation or sleep mode because that will just break the signal the best thing to do is let windows turn the monitor off but do not put your machine in sleep mode or any other power save featurn just treat your tv as a monitor

I find this the only and best way to work the ati cards and yes you keep unplugging and plugging the HDMI cable something is bound to go wrong eventually

Hi,

I recently pluged my PC into my 40in Bravia LCD. Initally I had no issues with sound via external speakers from my motherboard sound, and picture via PC port in the TV (via the std blue VGA cable).

The poblem has come once I upgraded to HDMI. I have the PC and TV now connected via HDMI, and have great pic, but lost my sound. I even lost the cabability to use headphones via my front or rear jacks, which i used to be able to do. Next to the HDMI input on the Bravia, there is like an analogue plug for sound, but I can't get that to work either.

In the control panel, under sound i have green activity on the bar on the right on SPDIF Interface, and I also have HDMI OUtput device Working and it says no speakers connected. I have tried swapping set default b/n HDMI and SPDIF, but nothing happens.

Please help.

Any advice as to how I can get it back?

A:HDMI sound issue

check the system volume and the volume in the media player you have chosen,
try the cable on another device, you may have to assign the audio to an input on your tv
(it maybe shared with pc, hdmi or dvi)

Hey All,

I am in some serious need of help.. I have finished building my HTPC Today but unable to correct sound from my intel i3 HD Graphics via HDMI .. Below are the Specs of my HTPC:

ZOTAC H55 ITX WIFI motherboard

Intel i3 530 Clarkdale

4GB Crucial DDR3 RAM

40GB Kingston SSD

Windows 7 Home Premium

After installing windows updates I went to the Zotac website and installed the intel HD graphics and HD sound for my motherboard.. I also installed the Realtek codecs.

I have the HDMI running from my Zotac motherboard into the Onkyo 608 Amp and then from the AMP to the TV via the HDMI out..

The problem is my AMP keeps flickering "HDMI, Multi Channel" on the front visual display of the amp and its actually making a clicking noise (cutting out and then coming back) . " you hear a little bit of the audio but then cuts out and then comes back...and the HDMI and PCM sign flashes a few times and for a few seconds there is sound and then it cuts out again....?

When I hit display button on the remote whilst playing a .mkv file with DTS sound it says input 5.1 PCM and then Multi Channel or something like this but keeps flickering.. ?

Can anyone please advise me as what I need to do? Am I doing anything wrong ..? Is there a setting in the Onkyo 608 or anything I need to do to windows to get everything working perfectly? Do I need to disable the onboard sound card via bios or something to prevent maybe a conflict???

Hi, I've a strange problem with the sound output via HDMI. If my T460 is connected to a dockingstation and my monitor is connected to the station via HDMI cable I've sound output from the speakers. So everything works fine and I can also the monitor as device for sound outpu at the sound options. Then I change only one thing at my setup. I directly connect the monitor with the same HDMI cable directly to the HDMI port of my notebook. The video signal is still transmitted perfectly but the sound is gone. Also the device for sound is gone from the sound options. I've only graphics from the intel on board chip and all drivers are uptodate. I also reinstalled them several times. What can I do to solve this problem? Hello,

I have the HDMI-problem, and I've tried a lot of the basic things; Swap cables, reboot, smash the keyboard etc.

The thing is that the HDMI-cable works fine with my BENQ computer screen, and gives the test sound. But when it comes to my Sharp TV, I can only get the picture. Both are connected to my computer trough DVI-adapters. It has worked before, and I can add that I have had the same problem with my friends playstation 3.

I want to connect my computer to the TV so I can use the blu ray + sound system to play some music.

So it looks something like this;
Computer -HDMI via DVI-> BENQ Screen
Computer -HDMI via DVI-> Sharp TV -HDMI-> Blu ray + sound system.

EDIT: In the sound control panel, I cannot see my TV either. If I unplug my BENQ Screen, it still says it is active, even after several restarts...

A:HDMI sound from PC Screen but not from TV

Here may be your most common problem:

Description: ATI HDMI Output (ATI Function Driver for High Definition Audio - ATI AA01)
Default Sound Playback: No

Change your default playback device to your ATI HDMI output device. you also need to have the sampling rate of the HDMI output to be at either 16-bit or 24-bit 44.1 khz as most HDTV's cant process higher sampling rates than that. but it'll still give you quality surround sound if you use a Home Theatre system output from your TV.

Make sure to update your ATI HDMI driver though too, as Oct. 2008 is a little late for right now.

Hope this helps.

Hey Everyone, I'm having some issues when connecting my new laptop to an external screen (a Sony TV) via HDMI.  There are two separate issues which I've numbered below.  Thanks in advance for your time. 1. After I've connected the laptop to the TV (it's set to clone the screen) the TV display is fine, but when I close the laptop lid the resolution on the TV changes.  If I happen to be in the middle of playing a video, then when the lid is closed the resolution changes and the video image freezes, although audio keeps playing.   I know there is a similar screen resolution chnanging query on this forum from 2015 that appears to have been solved by this Intel forum link, but this solution does not work for me.  I would love to know if there's a way to disable anything from happening when closing the laptop lid, other than the screen going black, similar to the way you can disable the sleep/power options through the control pannel. 2. In my home setup I don't have my external screen (TV) connected to my laptop all the time, only when I want to watch a show or movie.  So I'm constantly plugging in and removing my HDMI cable.  Lately I'm having trouble with the audio, sometimes when I plug in the cable, the audio does not switch from my laptop to the TV, and if I open Playback Devices I don't even see the TV as an option.  My only workaround at the moment is to restart the computer, at whch time the TV audio is automatical... A:Connecting via HDMI to TV - Screen Resolution and Sound Issu...

1. yes, you can use "Power Options" -> "Choose what closing the lid does" to set it to "Do Nothing" 2. Since your connection to your TV over HDMI was working fine and now it is not, i would make sure your BIOS and drivers (especially graphics) are up to date. if yes and problem persistes, then it is likely a HDMI cable issue, or maybe the hdmi connector on the laptop (a bent pin somewhere??)

Hi allRecently, I got a T560 and I would like to share how well could the speaker performs. After testing and tweaking, I would say that the loudness is similar to Yoga 900, except Yoga 900 have louder mid (vocal) and T560 / P50s have louder high (clarity, background sound)

The tweaks is also optimal for P50s as it shares the same sound card and speakers as P40 Yoga. The tweaks would not be optimal for other laptops, external audio device due to variation of frequency response.

To tweak the sound:1. Go to Start > All Apps (All Programs) > Dolby > Dolby Audio

2. Click Personalize

3. There are two types of preset provided for the internal speaker, Loudness and Balanced. You may try out both to see what you prefer, and adjust the EQ accordingly to the photos below. Maximum preset is not recommended on the T560 / P50s as it's sound card would not supply enough power to drive the speakers and sound quality will decrease.

Loudness: Less bass, maximize midrange and treble sound loudness
?

Balanced: Flat response with increased overall sound loudness

Hello, I just got a new Lenovo T560 and when I try to scroll using the trackpoint + the middle mouse button-the scrolling appears to be working properly but in certain applications like excel and caseware, scrolling down to a certain point in the workbook will cause the equivalent of a page-up or page-down.  I thought maybe this was a sensitivity issue with the scrolling but it's not-I notice that in excel, it scrolls properly to the same point in the page every time, at which point it will jump down, far past where i was scrolling earlier.  I noticed there were a few solutions on here for what appears to be the same issue, but none of the solutions were specific to the T560. Let me know your thoughts, thank you!

Hi Since I received my new Thinkpad last Thursday, I have been experiencing these short beeps every once in a while which seem to occur randomly. I checked the beep codes for my model and the sound I hear doesn't appear in that list. I did some research and found that there is some kind of 'beep driver' which should be responsible for these kind of short sounds. I turned the sounds/driver of via RegEdit on Windows and used Commandprompt (with 'sc stop beep' and 'sc config beep start= disabled') and although the beep occurs less than before, it is still there. Is there anyone with a similar problem or experience who might know the answer to this problem? Thanks in advance.

We have three new T560 thinkpad (all with double GPU's: Intel 520 & Nvidia 940MX) laptops at our work of which two are the main working devices and one is a reserve one. With the two main devices we noticed the following problem very frequently: at random moment, sometimes as soon as the device is started, there's a problem with any kind of video playback, whether it's with a stream on the internet or playback of a file that is stored in the laptop's drive. The video playback is very slow (stuttering slowmotion) and there's no sound. The drivers are up to date with the latest ones available Lenovo System Update. Sometimes this problem is fixed with a reboot but at other moments it doesn't and it gets fixed at a random moment. I really don't know the source of the issue and it happens to both our devices. I haven't been able to verify it with the reserve laptop. Can I get any help with this please?

I'm really at a loss right now and quite disheartened.

So I've been tearing my hair out for the 3rd day running with this problem.

A little backstory to help understand what's going on. For a couple of years now I've had my PC connected to my SONY Bravia HD ready LCD TV. A couple of rare instances in the past I've lost the display for unknown reasons but always managed to get it back, oddly, what seemed to work each time is stripping out my pc and leaving just the fans, cpu, psu and motherboard connected, even took out the bios memory disc (you know that little silver coin looking thing?). Dunno why all of that worked it just did.

I left my PC on to download (harmless download and not a windows update) and it was FINE. I went to walk my dog, came back about an hour or less later and found myself staring at a blank black screen on my TV. I moved the mouse, hit the keyboard start menu key, nothing. Checked the connection ends, nothing.

So I had no choice but to hard shutdown and power up again. Nothing.

Eventually, after again stripping out my PC (including BIOS memory) and put... Read more

A new-to-me T560 has a collapsing power button. The button drops too far into the chassis and to one side. I can jiggle it a bit with my finger and it works. So I don't think its the power board. There is a retainer clip shaped like the tonearm of some turntables attached with a tiny screw to the chassis. The end of it makes contact with the side of the power button. See the attached photo. The way the button collapses makes me think there is supposed to be a retention clip on the other side of the button. I did not find any debris when I removed the back cover.  After lots of searching the only reference to any of these mechanical parts is a post about a similiar power button issue with the W550, which says the bezel is part of the KBD. I don't think that applies here. This laptop is such a feat of engineering... Please help in the restoration of this Tpad!

When I connect the Dell Inspiron N7110 with a HDMI cable to a Sony TV, screen shows but sound is played via the computer only. This is since Windows 10, with Windows 7 + 8 it had some quirks (we always had to switch off sound enhancements first to get it working, but it worked).
This is what I checked/tried:
Device manager: uninstalled both drivers at Audio -input and output, and also System Devices/High Definition Audio Controller, all is reinstalled after a reset
Display adapters: there are 2. Intel (R) HD Graphics 3000 and NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M. Removed the Intel driver, which is reinstalled after a reset.
Also tried to switch off each; switching off the Intel does not change anything; switching off the NVidia stops displaying the picture on the TV as well.
It does not matter if the display is on the TV only or stretched on laptop + TV (2 screens). I can however not duplicate the screen - this does not show anything on TV when chosen.
 One remarkable thing:
On starting the NVidia installation program, it DOES show correctly HDMI: SONY TV XV . You can then press a button from there which opens the Windows Sound configuration screen where it only shows the icon of the internal speakers (yes right mouse option Show Disabled devices and Show Disconnected devices are both checked).

The problem can not be the HDMI cable. I've connected several other brands of laptops and they all work. Basically, as soon as I connect the HDMI cable, the SONY TV icon appears as a... Read more

A:Realtek HDMI+NVIDIA = no sound+frezze screen using pc rear audio jack

Please clarify, are you using HDMI connection to your display monitor and audio? Or are you using a standard DVI or VGA PC monitor? And, are you using the RealTek PC audio to speakers? Or are you using the HDMI connection to speakers?

If you are using the RealTek, your "Speakers" should be set as the default audio playback device. If you are using HDMI connection (or have an HDMI cable connected to the PC) Windows will automatically default the playback device to HDMI and if you are using the PC's RealTek you will have to manually change the default playback device.

The problem with freezing and buzz with game play is not an "audio" problem. The buzz is just the result of the freezing which is some other PC problem. Either a Video issue that is causing the PC to hang, or some other hardware problem that is causing the PC to hang.

Hello, till now, the T560 booted into the SSD. Few BIOS informations I have from that previous working state isefi: EFI v2.40 by Lenovoefi: SMBIOS=0xd7083000 ACPI=0xd7ffe000 ACPI 2.0=0xd7ffe014 MPS=0xd7f48000 ESRT=0xd6acd000SMBIOS 2.8 present.DMI: LENOVO 20FJS05R0H/20FJS05R0H, BIOS N1KET30W (1.17 ) 02/10/2017That BIOS was loaded/updated by myself at that time with a CD ISO (not via the Windows exe tool): the notebook worked for approx 3 months. The motherboard became defect. The service person came and exchange the board and "updated" the BIOS. If I remember they did not booted with a CD ISO.They left me, with the PC not booting into the SSD (I agree they left because I was thinking it could come from the BIOS setup and I wanted to try EFI/Legacy booting parameters). I failed to boot the SSD. Now, we see the SSD recognized by the BIOS. See the pictures. The PC boots from an USB with Debian8 live on it: I can see the BIOS parameter in the Debian8 boot log fileSMBIOS 2.8 present.DMI: LENOVO 20FJS05R0H/20FJS05R0H, BIOS N1KET30W (1.17 ) 02/10/2017 For the reasona) it dont boot into the SSDb) we see the boot device "NVMe0" in the boot menue of the BIOS, perhaps the BIOS was not initialized correctly or is corrupt with the method they tried to update it (this NVMe0 is weird: it should be the single SSD, but the SSD is already in the boot menue marked as ATA and I dont have 2 SSDs on this notebook. see similar topic there https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Ser... I've had my laptop connected to a TV through HDMI for years and it suddenly stopped working. The HDMI output is no longer listed as a playback device. It now shows spdif digital out via HP dock. The picture is fine but there is no sound. Also when you go to the playback settings screen the green lights are jumping next to the spdif which is set as default but there is no sound. I have tried everything if you do a Google search on this topic it seems like it is a common problem but there is no specific solution. I believe the HDMI playback device disappeared after the last Windows 10 update. The HDMI is not under hidden devices but it is listed under audio in the control panel.

Hi there My screen recently started flickering on the right-hand side on my T560. It only does this when it is initially booted up, and then initially stops. If I open a white page e.g. an empty notepad, I can see that it looks like maybe a connection to a backlight on the screen is loose (this is just a guess). Here is a link to a video of this behaviour: https://youtu.be/FS5kzDCdfNk Are there any suggestions on how to fix this? I am a bit nervous to take my laptop apart and try myself.

I just bought our first new Lenovo T560 and installed through our SCCM 2012.After installation, Windows popped up in the lowest resolution possible and I of course tried to change it by right clicking the desktop and went to "Screen Resolution" - When I tried to click on "Resolution" the popup showed for a second and went away again! - So every time I click this popup it just goes away again and I donīt have time to ajust the resolution.Every popup on the "Screen Resolution" page acts this way. Of course I tried to update drivers - every one that I can think of:-) If I go to Intels Control Panel, I can easily change resolution, but I would like to fix this so I have a laptop in perfect condition before handing it over to our employees. Any one have this issue or a solution for this? Bye the way - in Safe mode there is no problem!

I have a brand-new ThinkPad T560 (20FH002DUS) that is experiencing ghost input with the touch screen. I've left the laptop sitting next to me and occaisionally it will light up with random inputs all along the bottom left corner of the monitor. The driver pack I used for imaging is the latest one found here: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/olddownloads/ds112139I've also updated the BIOS.

Hey, I've been looking for help for this for 2 days straight and still haven't found any help.

Basicly about 3 or 4 weeks ago, my motherboard or graphics card went, i had the computer repaired and it arrived a few days ago.

I've plugged it all in but i can't get any sound.
I've changed my Bios, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, did some roll backs, plugged in the S/pdif cable altered my properties and still no luck.

Can anyone help me?

The screen shot below is of what my Playback Devices panel looks like when iTunes is on.
I'll give any information i can.

i have just purchased a DELL Inspiron 15 5000 SERIES - 5559 with Windows 10 Pro pre-installed in Spanish. I have also purchased a DELL 24" additional screen SE2416H.
Whilst watching live internet broadcasts (TV, Youtube etc.) on Chrome, Edge or Firefox, as soon as I connect the screen to the laptop by HDMI cable, the sound on my laptop speakers disappears. Upon disconnection of the HDMI screen cable, the sound re-appears.
However, the sound doesn't disappear when using other sound applications such as Skype.
This means I can't enjoy watching internet TV with sound on the 24" screen.
Please advise how to fix this as the main point of purchasing the 24" screen was precisely to be able to watch (and listen to) TV programs.
Regards,

Hi all, Note: I posted this same message on a reddit support page but have not had any responses for a couple days.  I'm going to rder what I think is the right video cable and we'll see. Anyway, here was the original message:----------I'm stuck as to what the problem is with this T580 laptop. A user at the office came to me with a problem with her laptop. The screen was all messed up, fuzzy picture, and lines, etc. However, an external monitor worked just fine. I figured, easy, and I ordered a new LCD (exact same FRU). I put the new screen in and it turns on immediately to a full screen of repeating colors, Red, Green, Blue, White, and repeats, each color remains for a second or two. Again, external monitor works fine (so even though the LCD is flipping through the colors, Windows will still show booting on the external monitor) So I thought, ok maybe it's the GPU or system board, so I also ordered one of those and just finished replacing that....same flashing screen. Could it be the video cable? What is the part number for this cable? Thanks all, I am stuck here!

Hi, first post here for me.. After successfully installing the latest version of Java (6.0.260) and then running the detection tool, it keeps telling me it does not detect Java on my computer. I've tried rebooting after install, uninstalling and reinstalling, using the offline version and every troubleshooting tip listed after the non-detection message. I'm using IE10 with the 32-bit browser. Java used to run fine until lately. I'd appreciate any suggestions on other solutions. Everything I've tried has failed. Thanks!

Then see if Java is Enabled.

So...
Having a small issue with my laptop. i looked all over the internet and alas i came up with nothing whatsoever.
I ordered my laptop off of microsoft website because they had a deal for students, this was about 3 years ago.
The other day i was watching a stream on my laptop and it started making clicking noises and froze my computer, i restarted chrome and everything worked fine again.
then about a week later watching another stream, the clicking noises began again only this time it shut my computer off. so i turned it back on and this error came up(No boot device detected. strike F1 to retry boot Strike F2 to run setup utility or F5 to run onboard system diagnostics.)
So naturally i clicked retry boot a couple million times but to no avail nothing worked.
So i ran my onboard diagnostics. and it came up with hard drive not connected. so i was like okay my hard drives fried. so i connected a different one... same error message

So now ive come here for solutions, ive never in my life resorted to posting online about a situation. but this is just insane. either the connection from my computer to my hard drive is fried, Both my hard drives are fried or something in the softwares messed up.
All im asking for is a solution... Thanks.

The hard drive is indeed toast -- if you post the model number (i.e., Inspiron N5110, 5521, etc.) someone can recommend a replacement drive.
If you did not prepare a set of recovery media when the system was new, you'll also need to contact Dell to purchase that now, as you'll need it to reload the operating system once you replace the faulty drive.

Hi guys

I've a Macbook Pro with the Win7 build 7000 running on it. Everything works fine except the microphone detection of the Realtek HD adapter. the macbook pro only has 2 jacks. one for the headphones and the other should be the mic/line-in.

By plugging in the mic from my headset, the realtek audio manager just shows me an input device instead of the microphone.
The built-in mic from the macbook works fine, but I prefer using my headset for skype.

Is there any workaround to fix this issue? how can i "tell" the realtek audio manager, that the plugged device is a mic?

I already installed the lates realtek HD drivers (2.18) and tried to assign the mic/line-in manually over the registry (Realtek HD Changing Jack output reassignments ( FIX )), but nothing could solve this problem.

here are some screenshots which are describing the issue. yes it's a german installation :-)

many thanks

dumdidum

Hi dumdidum and welcome to Se7en Forums

Referring to your first image, right-click on the BLUE socket and select Connector Retasking...

You should be able to set the appropriate option here.
