Can the G50-45 be used with no batter and AC power?

Q: Can the G50-45 be used with no batter and AC power?

My original battery was about to go kaputs last month, bought a aftermarket replacement since lenovo doesn't sell compatible batteries (i got a list from a rep but it was a dead end on all fronts) anyways sent $25 and a month later the new battery is giving me the weak message too. So since I use my laptop as a desktop, can I just forgo using a battery and just use it with the AC power cord only? I want to be sure I won't somehow damage my laptop by using it without a battery.

Preferred Solution: Can the G50-45 be used with no batter and AC power?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Did you try a battery from one of the local US of A providers? I have had better than average luck with Interstate Batteries.... They have actually been able to rebuild a couple of my older ones, and was about half the cost of a new battery.Other than that, the only down side to lacking a battery is there are no options for saving data in case of power loss. Also - have you tried using the Lenovo energy manager to reset the battery gauge?CB

I got the exact same problem below stated by someone else before which is still unsolved. "Every time I plug in my charger to my Y50 it doesnt recognize the charger is in. Then, after say, 30 seconds it recognizes it and charges, but then after 1 minute of charging it says on my desktop the performance might be affected if the adapeter cant provide enough charge. Which is crazy according to the fact that my adapter is the one that came with my Y50. Whenever it says "Performance will be ...blah blah..." it stops charging and the power button, power LED indicator light, and battery LED indicator light start blinking in sync with each other. I have tried restarting, shutting down, unlug adapter replug adapter turn back on, but the same problem ensues. Any ideas?? This problem makes it very hard to play games and charge my laptop. " Besides that there is an error at the same time called: "Adaptor has limited support" Any help will be appreciated, please help me...

I recently purchased a new battery on line to replace the original that no longer takes a charge. I installed the new battery, plugged in the notebook and let it charge for eight hours. I still have 0% on the battery meter. Is there a way to determine if the problem is with my charger or the battery? Or, maybe me!

A:Notebook Batter

Based on all of what you have told us about the hardware, including make model and age of laptop I would have to take a wild calculated total guess and say the replacement battery is at fault. Does the old battery charge at all?

My computer crashes when Battery 3 starts. This problem happened before when I had Absynth. I'm guessing its not really because of the programs themselves, but more so because of my system. I'm running XP home, SP1, and have plenty of HD space between two internal drives I have.

Can someone convey to me the source of this issue and what I can do to fix it? I don't really want to get a new computer, but I know these things sort of happen when your computer gets really old. Mines is about 5 years old or so.

Hi, I have an Alienware 17, and it's served me great for the 3 years that I've had it. Recently, I had to do a fresh install of Windows 10, and it got rid of all the pre-installed Dell stuff, along with the Battery Meter. I kind of relied on that for desktop mode, which I no longer have access to. I got out the Resource DVD that came with it, but I did not see anything related to that. Is there any chance that someone could link me to a download of that for Windows 10? I've looked around but couldn't find anything.
Thanks in advance!

A:Laptop processor batter usage

The processor is only one part of the laptop that'll determine battery life. FEatures, accessories, screen size, and everything else will an effect. Not to mention the type of battery that you'll get. And the performance difference between the first and last processor in your list is very significant, is performance an issue as well?

I believe the Celeron M 420 has the lowest power consumption not taking anything else into effect.

so I have a hp laptop, and the battery on it usually takes about 2 hours to go down.

Ever since I modded my computer(by changing the *.dll files, and changing the desktop to a mac os style, and having desktopX on my computer all the time), my battery would go from 100% to about 20% in about 1 to 1.5 hours.

Is this normal? will modding the *.dll files effect the battery life? anything I can do?

A:laptop batter draining too fast??

batteries over time will lose the ability to hold charges as long as they did when new.

Most importantly, the more stuff running, the greater the load on the laptop and the faster the battery will drain.

To see what I mean - turn the computer on and leave it on but don't do anything, now recharge the battery and play a high intensity game until the battery dies. The laptop will not run as long in the second senerio. The themes would be a mild version of this.

I hope you can help, I'm kind of at a loss. I have an Acer Ferrari 3200 laptop (very nice machine, got it last November and haven't had any problems until about 2 weeks ago). The battery has started to drain even while the unit is plugged in. About two months ago I moved from the US to Japan, so there is a wall power difference, but I thought that a US adapter should be ok since the Japanese output (125v where I am) falls into the adapter range of 100-240v). I originally thought that the problem was the adapter, but I have replaced it and I'm still having problems. Could it be a battery problem? Any help would be appreciated.

We need to do student registration on four laptops at locations that do not have power. While the batteries may last long enough, they have also run down a few times in the past, so we need a "Plan B" for power.I thought a simple solution would be to have a UPS/battery backup with an outlet strip that all four could plug into.  If AC is available, fine,  If not, theyd just run off the battery backup. I've d/l'd the user guide and service manuals but can't find the AC current draw info to help me determine what size UPS/battery backup to use. Yes we could plug into a nearby car and inverter but that'd require an inconveniently long extension cable that could be tripped over.  The UPS/battery backup would be more compact and overall a simpler solution. Thanks for any advice!

It had this BSOD the other day http://i.imgur.com/rV1jMkO.jpg so i searched it up and seeing that it's mostly due to overclocking i decided to reset bios to check if it's been overclocked by taking out the cmos battery and putting it back since bios has been locked and have been a hindrance when i wanted to install windows 7 via usb but can't choose any boot options.

I took the laptop apart the other day but couldn't find the battery so i put it back together and it still worked. Today i took it apart again and found the battery, pulled it out and left it for a while then plugged it back and put everything back together and now the laptop wont start up anymore. I plugged the ac adapter in and the power led would light up but when i tried to turn the laptop on, the power light in the front side of the laptop would flash and then all the lights would go off and nothing happens. I tried the "hold power button for 30sec with no power connected" but the same thing would happen over again.

Hi visualize,

Please remove the battery from the and connect the system with AC adapter only and check if the system turns on.

Also check when you connect the AC adapter to the system does light on the adapter stays on. It is not safe to start the system with the CMOS battery and it could have damaged the system as well.

My grandson has a HP laptop, it gave the update alert and he allowed the update.  Now 4 days later it is still a blue screen with a rotating circle of dots implying it is still loading.  We have shut down, restarted, removed the battery and it only goes right back to the the blue screen with the rotating dots.  The HP support pages are deadfully short of information and just loop you back to the same help pages over and over.  I do not know the product name or system.  I can't find it on the Lt anywhere.  I removed the battery and took a magnifying glass to look at the miniscule print and its all written in other languages.  How do we restore this LT so he can continue to use it?   He is homeschooled and we cannot do his work assignments.  I am using my old laptop but it is a Gateway  and doesn't have his work in the memory.  What do we do?  Never will buy an HP again.  Totally frustrated with HP website and HP Laptop.

Currently, I'm using my tablet to type this, so please excuse the typos. So earlier today, I changed the CMOS battery. Then I restarted my computer and it first got stick at the Starting Windows screen. But I managed to fix that. I then managed to get I to Windows, but it said it couldn't locate the H: drive, which was 4 tb. I later figured out that I needed to update the bios, so I used Safe Mode with Networking and got the file and did the bios update. I then restarted my computer and it got as far as the Blue Windows Logo Screen...actually that's the wallpaper for my desktop. Basically, it got past the Starting Windows and froze on the next screen. I'm unable to use the mouse. There's no start menu or anything except the wallpaper.

I've tried numerous things such as in bios, switching the RAID mode to the AHCI. That made things slightly smoother, but when I got to windows 7, it was still the same.

I also tried removing the ram and reseating them. I made sure the cables were all secure.

In safe mode, I have access to my 4tb H: drive.

Part of me thinks I should reinstall windows 7, but all I really did was change the battery.

I'm also wondering if I may of damaged the video card.

I'm pretty good with computers, but this time I think I'm at a loss.

I am in desperate need of help here. I have HP 1000 notebook which was given to me in free laptop scheme by our Prime Minister. This laptop came with battery of over 4200mz i dnt exactly remember but through out the year 2013 and end of 2012, its battery timing was more then 3 hour, even 1 month ago. But from last couple of weeks it has reduced from 3 hour to 1 hour.

The laptop heats up now and it omits very heated air from side fans.Furthermore, the summer in Pakistan is at the peak. Normal temperature here is between 40 to 45C. I dont use laptop in Air Conditioned room so it heats up. Kindly tell if all laptops do the same or this laptop has some issue..
Kindly suggest any solution for batter. Is it the laptop or the battery has completed its life.

( one more thing. i removed battery for 2 days to put the laptop on ac because the battery on charge makes is too hot to use so i often take out the battery. But it never happened before....)

A:Laptop Batter suddenly reduced from 3 hour to less than 1 hour

Has the laptop ever been cleaned? It it's running hot, the fans will run at higher speed, thus the battery life will be shorter.

I have a recent DELL laptop:
Inspiron 7000 (Inspiron 17 7778 2-in-1),
Core i7, 16 Gb RAM, 128 GB SSD + 1TB HD...
Not a lot of programs and lots of space available.
In the last few months I have had a lot of poor performance issues. I finally figured out it is related to Windows 10 Power Plan. When set to "Power Saver", the performance is awful. The CPU is maxed to 0.80 GHz. So when browsing the net or looking at my picture gallery, the computer hangs, and it becomes impossible to use. If I change the plan to high performance, the computer behaves normally - fast!
And even if I change the plan to another plan (i.e. High Perf), the next time I restart or wake-up the computer, the "Power Saver" power plan is set back... Very frustrating. And as shows the image, it is not the "bolded" option in the list. What can be changing constantly that parameter??
I contacted DELL chat support and they asked me to re-install Windows! There is probably a better way to fix this. It looks to me as a DELL Driver conflicting with Windows. Also, my mother has an older DELL laptop on Windows 10 and she experiences the same issue...
Any help would be very appreciated!

Is it possible that you can test with another compatible PSU? I would strongly suggest doing so.

Also try the following steps:
?Make sure that the (internal) speaker is connected to the motherboard
?Remove all memory and attempt to boot the PC
?You should get the no memory beep errors

If the Power Supply is in working order and no beeps are present then it can be indicative of a faulty motherboard.

For troubleshooting purposes it may be a good idea to remove the components from the case and bench test to rule out a short.

My Inspiron 15R N5110 won't come on. I've tried both battery and 2 different ac adapters. I've removed the battery, unplugged it, and held the power button for 30 seconds to discharge the system, but it still won't come on.

I made sure the connections are tight (the DC jack and other USB board) by screwing them down. The only thing that happens that shows any life is when the battery is in. The power button, power indicator light in front, and the little "gears" light blink white for just a moment, then off, about every 5 seconds.

Hoping someone here can offer some advice? I own a Dell studio xps 435t-9000 that is a couple years old. I recently replaced my harddrive and since then (don't know if it's a coincidence or not) I'm having another problem. After I installed it, the first time my computer went into sleep mode/hibernation I couldn't wake it up. Power light was flashing white. Eventually I shut it down manually and then it wouldn't boot. Had a solid amber light, no power except the power supply. Fans not working. I unplugged everything and made sure it was all good. Wouldn't start. Left it overnight and plugged it in the next morning. Started up. Worked great for about 7 hours and then just randomly shut down, no errors or anything. Same deal. Wouldn't start, amber solid power light. Let it sit for awhile, reseated everything and wouldn't start.Gave up for awhile, tried a few hours later and it started. I read a few boards pointing to the power supply being bad or not powerful enough. However, I replaced the power supply about 6 months ago with a Corsair 600 which is plenty power. Could still be an issue perhaps but seems odd it would die in that little time. I also replaced my graphics card if that matters. Finally the last time I checked all the plugs I also took out the board batter for a few minutes to try and "reset" things. Not sure if that matters, either.

So, I'm at a loss where to go from here. I could replace the power su... Read more

Memory can cause the problems you are having. Make sure the memory is seated , Then run a memory program such as memtest on It let it run for a while and see if it shows you any errors. Also check and make sure you are not having a overheating problem

Why does shutting down the computer, removing the AC Adapter, removing the battery (if it is a laptop), and holding down the power button for 30 seconds fix problems in one's computer. I was recently corrected in a post of mine that this does not actually do anything unless one removes the 3 volt battery from the motherboard, but I know this is not true from experience. Here is the correction I am referring to from a more experienced member:

The motherboard has a 3 volt battery installed in it. This battery provides just enough power to retain all of the BIOS settings regardless of the state of the main power or the power supply. Following the steps above will not reset the BIOS or the CMOS chip.

You can reset the BIOS defaults by selecting that option from within the BIOS settings. Usually on the Exit menu.

To reset the CMOS (Clear the CMOS chip) there will be either a jumper on the motherboard to perform this function with, or newer boards have an actual reset button.

The above procedure will work to restore the BIOS defaults if you add the step:
2b - remove the 3v battery.
But it will not clear the CMOS.

The reason I know that doing the hardware reset I described initially works:

Further information; this is what my manufacturer of my laptop suggested for my USB issues View Document. After step B. of the power cycle directions, my computer works fine.

Edit: I have skipped all the steps prior to the power cycle, and it still fixes my problem. It is not a software update that is fixing the problem.

I have a Dell 8600 about two years old. When I plug in the AC adapter, it intermittently fades to the battery as though the plug was pulled out (its not) and of course the screen fades in an out when every time it swithces--it does it every 30 to 60 seconds or so. I switched to a different AC adapter (I have a Dell 600M with the same AC adapter)-same thing so I know it is something internally. Any ideas?

Hello All:

I have a HP DV6275US, Pavillion DV6000 with Vista Home Premium on it and I am trying to go to XP. Dual booting is too much of a ruckus and I do not like it anyways, so I bought a Scorpio to install it on.

When I installed the Scorpio, it initially would not detect the drive, so I disabled SATA Auto. in the BIOS, and it then recognized it.

So, I start to install XP, formatted fine, copied sys. files fine, but when I got to the actual GUI install it asked me if I wanted to install a driver for my battery, which could possibly disrupt installation, so I choose yes and anyways and it proceeded fine for about a minute, then power failure. Tried again, and again, and same thing.

I put my Vista HDD back in, a Seagate 160GB, and things worked fine.

I have read something about having to manually load the drivers for the nVidia RAID chipset, as the ones XP Install loads do not suffice. I could not find any problems about the battery, so please, ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

I have an enquiry relating to video cards. In order to do my job, I need to get a card with at least 512MB of VRAM, preferably 2GB. However, the ones I've found online use 300w What's the maximum watts that I can use with my Lenovo H520s? And what would happen if I used a 300w video card in it?

A:What graphics card will my H520s power supply support (PSU, power calculator)

Use a power supply calculator to get a accurate calculation of your power requirements.   Graphics card manufacturers have to figure a worst case scenario when giving power requirements.
Mod:  removed the Newegg calculator, which only gives a recommended psu size, rather than a power calculation.   The CoolerMaster gives both.

Does anyone know what model or type of adaptor I can purchase for my Dell Inspiron 13-7368 laptop for the power inlet so that I connect onto my external portable power unit (The connection to the power unit is USB)?
I do not have knowledge of how those the Dell power inlet are being classified and I cannot locate the specification for it. The AC Adaptor that I have for the Dell laptop is model HA45NM140. The information maybe on the AC-Adaptor but I do not know what I am looking for in regarding the plug in type for the inlet of the laptop.

I picked up this Alienware 5700 off ebay to hopefully refurbish for my son but I'm new at this and still learning and so this thing has me baffled. The laptop is in pristine condition but shows no signs of life. When I plug in the power supply the green light on the power supply goes from solid green to blinking rapidly to the point you can barely see it. To me that would mean a short somewhere right ? If so where ? Has anyone else ever had experience with something like this ? I just don't want to go buying a new battery for a laptop that maybe fried already. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:No power, no lights but green light on power supply blinks rapidly

Remove the laptops battery and try the AC power only. If the green light does the same, it still could only be a bad AC adapter, or at worst, a shorted laptop motherboard

Hi, so I have had a powering issue with my previous power supply which was the Corsair CX600W so i purchased a newer power supply - the EVGA SuperNova G2 550W. I unhooked my old psu, hooked up my new one and the PC turned on and I turned it back off from the power button on the case. I also hava a boot drive problem so I unplugged the sata cables from my SSD and wanted to try to turn on the PC with only my HDD. I did this with the PSU switched off and the power cord unplugged. When I tried turning the PC on again the PSU made a clicking noise and nothing turns on. The motherboard Led's are lit up so it is definitely getting power but when I go to turn the computer on it just makes a quick clicking noise and nothing turns on. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

A:Power Supply makes clicking noise when I press power button

You may just need to drain the power off from the power supply and try again. Unplug the power to the power supply, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and try to turn on the computer again. If that doesn't put the old power supply back in and see if the PC works, or was the old one dead? If the PC works with the old one and not the new one then you may have gotten a faulty power supply.

I'm interested in the Toshiba G25 laptop but have heard that you can't use it on airplane seat power. It comes with a 120W AC power supply (15Vx8A), but I've been told that most airlines limit seat power to 75-90W max. Lind sells a 12V car adaptor for the G25, but specifically won't include an airline plug for this reason (which I can get independently, of course). I've read some interesting electrical discussions on this board. Can ya'll comment on the following or provide any general advice about power consumption?

1) Given that the voltage of the laptop and airline seat power pretty much match up (12-15V), if the amp draw on the laptop exceeds what the airline power supply can deliver, what will happen? Will it damage the laptop to feed it insufficient current? Will it shut down the laptop altogether? Merely dim the screen?

2) If I remove the laptop battery, which requires power to charge it, how much will that reduce the power need of the laptop? I'm not sure how to work the math, but the spec sheet states the battery supplies 4400mAh at 8A output. Does it require the same to charge it?

3) Most importantly, on my 15 hour transpacific flights, will the DVD player work with that ultrabrite screen at the low airline power supply? A nice feature of the laptop is that you can watch DVDs without powering up the Windows operating system (it has a small linux OS for the DVD player). Granted, the DVD drive and screen are prob... My Toshiba Satellite P755-S5265 has not been able to turn on at all. That's because the AC adapter would not be charging the battery nor would it operate the computer.

Whenever I would plug in my adapter, a weird clicking noise would come out from the computer. Also, the AC adapter charging light would blink continuously as well. I

took apart my laptop and discovered that the end my of DC power jack was the source of the clicking. When I mean the end, I don't mean the area where I plug in my adapter, it's the other end that's connected to the motherboard.

Does anybody have any advice on what I should do? Is my laptop dead and done for?

Thank you so much in advance!
