is there a theme for the windows 7 home basic?

Q: is there a theme for the windows 7 home basic?

want to customize my background but I haven't seen how to put a theme on my desktop.

Preferred Solution: is there a theme for the windows 7 home basic?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,

For the past few days, if not a week now, I've noticed that when I switch to Basic theme for RAM intesive programs like Adobe After Effects, Windows is quite slow, almost running as though my laptop is 1GB not 2GB RAM.
Though when I switch to Aero theme, Windows is only slightly slower with Adobe After Effects running.

My laptop is Compaq Presario CQ56, 2GB shared graphics and I can't explain why the Basic theme is running slow whereas Aero is responding faster, so much so, programs tend to stop responding more frequently on Basic.

I have run MSE, MBAM and SAS (MSE realtime, others are standalone mode) and found no viruses and I update them all either daily or every two days.

I only have Realtek Audio and MSE on Startup so I can't figure out why this happening!

Thanks in advance for any insight as to what's happened/happening

A:Windows 7 Home Premium basic theme is slow but aero theme is fast?

How much dedicated video memory does the laptop have?
It's conceivably possible that you are actually dumping more onto the system reserved ram by turning it off If the configuration is sharing ram with your video card anyway.

everyone knows vista should have the aero theme, right? i don't. maybe it is the home basic os? i also saw on the taskbar properties that it says "show windows preview" and i have this box checked

and also no thumbnails, just the name of the window. (bottom right)

thanks for any help given
and i will help in return
getting those thumbnails will look a bit cooler than just "top sites" or a name a window.

So, I recently reinstalled my Windows 7 and tried to install custom themepack I had before, but instead of applying it Windows just changes it's theme to basic. Before the re-installation everything worked fine. I didn't even have to patch system files to apply custom theme. I tried repairing Windows system files with System files checker (it found some corrupted files and said they're fixed or something). I Installed UXStyle, neither it helped. I tried to install custom packs with 7tsp but the result is the same.
The fresh-installed Windows is the same that was installed before.

can anybody give me any advice or a solution to my problem? just today i turned on my laptop and it said that windows had changed my theme and colour scheme, then i came to realise that my premium version of vista looked like it was the basic version. switchin between windows no longer provides that swanky 3d view and is replaced by a little box with icons. when i rest my mouse upon my bar at the bottom, i no longer get a little version of the window, i just get a dull beige text box. all these problems are purely superficial but one of the reasons i got vista was because of its style and way it looked. any tips?

Have the infamous Intel 915GM chipset on my old Tablet PC, and was disheartened to learn that the previously-working XP video drivers simply would not work anymore.

However, looking closer at the "new" Basic theme, I noticed that the windows actually do have some transparency.

So, while it's not Aero, it is a little nicer than the old Basic.

A:Windows Basic theme improved (a bit)

I've had a look at it and didn't notice any transparency... But it definitely is customizable.
You can use the mixer/intensity options to give it a more personal look and feel, whilst all the while retaining the non-aero explorer look.

When I use Team Viewer to connect to my home PC from my remote laptop, the Windows Desktop theme on my home PC often changes to Basic. I'm not very technical, but I understand this has something to do with system resources.

My questions:

1) Is it necessary that my home PC switch to Basic? If it makes Team Viewer perform better, than that's fine and I shall live with it. But if it's something that Windows does for the sole purpose of making me frustrated, I'd like to adjust the settings so it does not do this.

2) When the Desktop theme goes to Basic, is there a quick way to switch it back to the way I had it other than going to Start > Control Panel > Personalization?

A:Windows switches to Basic Desktop theme automatically: necessary?

Your home pc should automatically switch back to Aero as soon as you are no longer using the program.

I've never used this program you mention, but every other program I've used to remotely access my pc has always caused the pc being accessed to switch to Basic view. I used UltraVNC on my Vista computer some time ago and there was a setting to keep desktop composition enabled (if I remember correctly), but keeping that enabled (along with the wallpaper enabled) cause the program to lag greatly.

Soo basic theme we meet again you might be thinking....or not haha anyway the problem is quite simple while playing arma 3 i got the infamous pop up asking if i want windows to switch to basic theme since arma 3 is using a lot of resources and i accidentally

when playing . The basic theme doesnt stay like that , if before when i ran my cursor over to the other monitor and clicked (essentially alt tabbing the game) everything was smooth and good  ,  now whenever i do that windows decides that oh you alt
tabbed arma ok then let me go back to your theme so the screens flash the theme changes  and i can do stuff on my other monitor then i go back in arma screen flashes again theme changes again and i can continue playing. Now this is really annoying and
im sure anyone who had multiple monitors knows what i'm talking about. Its like trying to do stuff on the other monitor when your game is in fullscreen. Now if there would be any way of erasing the whole ,,change the theme to basic when user goes in arma 3"
thing that would really solve it all. I've done a couple of things to ,,keep windows from changing themes" but they didn't work so i decided that i would post here. Thank you for your ti... Read more

Hello everyone,

I'm having an issue with the Windows 7 OS themes of my laptop. It's a HP DV4-2116la.
When I open an application or software, no matter how big or small, Windows automatically switches to the basic (non aero) theme every time. This behaviour has never happened to me before.
At the sistem performance options, Aero Peek is enabled. I haven't made any changes to my laptop, it's supposed to run smooth (it is optimized, no addware, no unnecessary background processes), and I don't have any software that stresses the computer.

I really like this theme Windows 7 Basic Black, have used it for years.

I have no use for distracting Aero effects, but due to technical reasons, there is heavy screen tearing with some intel GPUs.

It is explained here.

Basically what prevents screen tearing is called "DWM, Desktop Window Manager", which is only active in Aero.

My question is, whether there exist some really "Basic Black" looking Aero theme, or hack to have this DWM enabled also in non-Aero theme?

Hi everyone, thanks for any help in advance.
I have an HP Pavilion dm4 laptop, currently running Windows 7. This morning I turned on the computer and thte left part of the screen stopped working; i.e. there's a big white strip on the side where the display isn't working so I imagine the LCD is busted. It sucks, but it isn't completely unexpected because my left hinge isn't exactly fully connected and I'm unable to close the laptop. Naturally, the first thing I tried was to restart the computer. It didn't fix the problem, but when I turned on my computer again my theme had switched to Windows Basic/some other really old looking theme, I may be wrong on the exact name. I tried running a few fixes, one of the problems that I can't seem to fix is that Desktop Windows Manager says it's running, but when I try a troubleshooter it says that the service is disabled.
I tried and opened Microsoft Word when the problem first started an hour ago and although the bottom pane didn't look right Word itself seemed to look normal. However now I opened it up again and even the Ribbon has turned to Windows Basic. I know my LCD needs replacing, but in the meantime how do I fix my theme so that I can keep using my laptop?
I've attached a picture of what my problem looks like. Thanks again for any help - I'm not the most tech savvy person so any advice is appreciated.

A:Aero theme not working! Windows looks like Windows Basic

The hinge problem may be causing the ribbon cable between the motherboard and the display to fail. Either at the connecting points or within the cable itself. That may be the first step, get that repaired.

By the way, how to activate the Windows Aero in Windows 7 Basic???

A:Performance comparison btw. Windows 7 Home Basic versus Home Premium

Hello cheesum and welcome to Seven Forums.

Last question first. This tutorial may help enable Aero. Please note that there is no way to enable transparency on Windows Home Basic.

Aero - Enable in Unsupported Editions of Windows 7

As far as performance, I have not been able to find any specific "speed" tests to say one way or the other.

Difference Between Windows 7 Home Basic and Home Premium | Difference Between | Windows 7 Home Basic vs Home Premium

But if Basic and Home Premium are run on two identical machines (not just identical RAM, but also identical hard drive/hard drive speed, identical CPU, identical programs and apps installed, etc) I would give a very slight performance advantage to Basic simply because it doesn't have the same amount of features that Home Premium has. Fewer features to load usually equals faster performance. But I think any performance advantage would be so slight it wouldn't make any appreciable difference.

I did find some comments comparing Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional.

performance difference 7 home premium vs. 7 professional? - Microsoft Community

Of course, others may completely disagree with my thoughts and that's cool. Healthy discussion and debate is welcomed.

I have recently purchased a new Acer Aspire 5535 laptop. It has Windows Vista Home Premium (WVHP) installed.

The computer came with a number of programs that I am not interested in having on my system. In addition, I was not provided a restore disc. I do own a copy of Windows Vista Home Basic (WVHB).

I would like to keep WVHP as I appear to be eligible for an upgrade to Windows 7 . . . but I would like to reinstall to get rid of all these worthless programs. Can I use a WVHB disc with my new WVHP product key?

Could I install WVHB with the WVHB product key, then use the WVHP key supplied by Acer to upgrade?

Thanks for your time in answering my question. I hope it isn't unclear.

For nearly a year now, my computer seems to start in a "Windows Basic" theme as opposed to the default Aero theme.

If I try to manually change the theme to Aero, it is actually grayed out and not available. The work-around that I have been doing for months is the following:
Switch User in order to return to the log-in screen. (This is because if I log off PRIOR to switching user, the OS will hang on my desktop image as if it was logging off, but simply hangs there).
Log back in with the Windows Basic theme still there.
Properly log-off the admin account.
Log back in with the Windows Aero theme restored and presented.

From what little bits and pieces I have gathered from others online with a similar problem, it is likely something to do with the actual user account. This may make sense since I have often has issues with this computer not giving me proper admin authority to files or programs despite this account being the sole account on this PC (set as administrator, of course).

This may have also been a domino effect of inserting an internal hard drive from a previous Windows Vista computer. The other day my processor overloaded due to too many heavy processes running, and then the theme turned into "Windows 7 basic theme". That sped up my laptop incredibly.

So, eventually, when i exited some programs, the theme reverted back. So i went to the Desktop->Right clicked->Set my theme to "windows 7 basic".
But doing this, i still didn't manage to match the speed i get when it turned into Windows 7 by itself.

Is there something else the computer does to free up processor when it turns the theme into Windows 7 basic when it overloads, other than just changing the theme?

I mean, i was video encoding at that time. Had firefox open aswell, and explorer.exe was eating 25% of my processor due to some file explorer windows having crashed (File properties windows). It managed 22 fps at that time.

But now, i only have the video encoding program open, explorer.exe is using 0% processor, and i've turned the theme into "Windows basic" (Not "Windows 7 basic", so free up even more processor hopefully). And i've restarted my computer. And yet it's only able to hit 22 fps now aswell ..

So the question is still: Is there something else the computer does to free up processor when it turns the theme into Windows 7 basic when it overloads, other than just changing the theme?

Im running Windows 7 professional, 64-bit.

Thank you in advance for all replies :-)

Hello, I have a big problem with my themes. My themes in Windows vista are all copies of "Windows Vista" And "Windows Classic" themes that are completely blank in the box where the picture should be. When I select ANY theme, it is in the Windows 98 theme, and I have tried stopping the Themes and starting it, setting it to automatic, but none of those work. Can someone please help?

A:Windows Vista Home Edition Stuck in 98 Classic Theme

Vista prevents changing from classic theme when you are low on resources. You'd need to give some more information.

Is your system running slow of late?

Is your c: drive full? How big is it? How much RAM do you have (control panel/system)?

Check control panel > system >advanced system settings> advanced tab > performance settings and check what windows is set to.

Then click advanced tab (still in performance settings) and look how large your virtual memory/paging file is.

You might need to clean house a bit. Run disk cleanup (start/all programs/accessories/system tools). Uninstall programs you don't want or use (contol panel/programs-programs and features/uninstall a program).

If you haven't defragged for a while do that when you get a chance (same location as disk cleanup)

I'm using the default 'Windows 7 Basic' theme. I just want to change the taskbar color (to give it more contrast), but I can't seem to find out how

Here's a screenshot showing what I mean exactly.

Exactly where or what do I have to change to set the taskbar color?

A:How to change taskbar color in basic theme?

You cannot change the color of the taskbar in the Basic theme using the Windows Color and appearance. It can be changed with a custom theme as long as the basic images are edited in the aero.msstyles.

I can change that for you, using Windows Style Builder and post it here in a zip folder.

This will be a custom theme and you will need to do 1 of these 2 ways of Enabling custom themes for it to work.

I've had this issue for years and now decided to try to fix it. When I change programs via the taskbar, no matter where I have my pointer, the taskbar acts as if my pointer was still on that program by continuing to glow and retaining the hover-over text. This only happens on the basic theme, not on the Aero theme.

This isn't that much of a problem, it's just annoying. It's not a graphics driver issue or a install-specific issue as it has done this on many video cards I've owned and many copies of Win7 I've used over the years.

I've attached an image of this issue, I noted where the pointer is for emphasis that my pointer is nowhere's near the taskbar when it does this.

I have a complaint about the way Win7 automatically decides to disable my Aero theme when the computer is actually using resources. Mostly this happens when I play a videogame fullscreen, then have to switch to another program. Obviously there's some system slow down involved for a few seconds, but that doesn't mean that I want to permanently change themes! At the very least it should re-enable Aero as soon as processor/memory use goes back down to normal levels. A couple times I actually saw a message asking me if I want to switch to Basic theme, but most of the time it just does it without asking me. Worse yet, after I selected No, it switched anyway few minutes later. And as if that's not enough, I wasn't able to select my old theme, it actually modified my current theme. I couldn't find out where to enable Aero back, so I had to redo all my theme's settings from default.

Hi Prikolist,
This issue shall be caused by the graphic card memory is not enough or the graphic card driver is not up to date. Please update your graphic card driver to see if the issue can be resolved. You also may need to contact the hardware manufacturer to confirm this issue.
In addition, could you please let me know the brand and model of your graphic card?

(I'm not sure which part of the forum this fits into, so I'm guessing it's alright to be in this one).

I have Vista, and at the moment I'm using a custom theme for Vista Basic called "Vista Black for Vista Basic:

I'm using it because I think it might increase performance in games and it's a dark black that Aero can't match (Unless transparency is enabled).

Problem comes when I save something through firefox:

The text to the left of the filename and filetype bars are unreadable. I can changed the text color to white via the system option in the advanced part of the display settings, but that makes firefox tabs white texted, Ventrilo white and unreadable, etc.

I know it's not a big issue, but I'm wondering if there's ANY way to fix this? (besides using Aero)

A:Custom Vista Basic Theme Issue

Not a complete solution but for the Firefox issue you may want to check out an addons for tabs, I use colorfultabs which is available on the Mozilla add-ons site, this allows you to control what color the tabs are and also alows you to invert the tab text color.

May save the eyestrain a little

Hello! First of all, I write using my phone, so sorry for language.

Today I turned on my pc and I have very weird problem. So, I turned it... And I done literally nothing, my windows changed theme to weird old style and in right bottom corner I normally should have my wifi network information which now I don't have... Yesterday everything seemed to work properly.

I scanned my system with Avast (I know. Not the best...) and full scan found no viruses.
I tried to restore my system however when I try to do it I am getting error. Same when I try to reinstall windows using windows tools...

Ok, couple of additional information!
I got second computer so if there is any software I need to download is ok. Maybe there is any program that can help me with backing up windows? (I don't mind restoring entire windows and loose all the data I have. I just want my PC back)

I can't reinstall windows by putting Cd with windows 7 inside because my CD DRIVE is broken and it does not reads any cd co if its the only way to fix the problem- I'm kinda screwed.

Also I apologise if I put the thread in wrong place but I desperately need help.
If there is any other information you need just ask and I will do my best to provide it. Many thanks! And I hope someone will be able to help me.

A:Basic (win98?!) theme, no wifi found

It's quite hard to live without pc. Is there really nothing that can be done? I also tried to switch the accounts (make new one on the pc.) didn't worked as well...,

Due to OS problem I formated my ''C" drive, where i can get windows 7 Home Basic OS CD for OS instalation in my laptop.I have Product Key too.I asked the Microsoft supported team, but they said contact your Laptop manufacturer for recovery CD. So please let me know the process to get CD.TySrinivas

A:Windows 7 Home Basic

Hello, Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. Welcome! Before formatting the C drive, did you have a Windows OEM version - Windows preinstalled by HP with your computer. When you bought the computer initially, did it have Win 7 preinstalled OR you installed WIndows later ? If you have a product key, you can try to download WIndows 7 installational ISO image from Microsoft >> https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows7 Then, burn the image to a DVD and use to install Win 7.Post successful WIn 7 installation, you can download and use HP Supprot Assistant to get the latest updates from HP such as drivers updates.  Let me know if this works for you.

I have had this HP G62 laptop for almost four years. It has always had Windows 7 Home Basic on it. I had to format my hard drive a few weeks ago due to viruses corrupting my graphics (OpenGL), so I did this and reinstalled Windows 7 Home Basic.

Before I formatted my hard drive, I used a program to obtain my Product Key for Microsoft Office and I also made a note of the Windows Product Key which was different to the one on the Certificate Of Authenticity on the bottom of the laptop. I downloaded an ISO of Windows 7 (which apparently is legal) and put it onto a flash drive and used it to reinstall Windows. I don't remember entering the Product Key when installing, so cannot confirm this.

I received a message saying that the Windows is not genuine and I must activate it. I tried to do that using the Product Key on the COA and it says that the product key will not work with this edition of Windows. The sticker on the bottom of my laptop says it is for Windows 7 Home Premium, but my laptop came to me with Home Basic.

I also tried the Product Key that I obtained from the program before formatting and this key gives me a message saying "The Software Licensing Service reported that the computer BIOS is missing a required license." (Error Code 0xC004F063)

Please could you assist me, here is the MGADiag report.

A:HP G62 Windows 7 Home Basic

From the looks of it you did a repair/reinstall using a Retail disk.

If the Key on your machine is for Windows 7 Home Premium - then that is what the machine is licensed for (and why anyone would wish to downgrade it to Home Basic is rather beyond me) - and you need to upgrade to the Home Premium install to get the Key to work. From what I can see of the Spec for the machine, the default is Home Premium.

From where did you purchase this?

I wouldn't have thought so, but I could be wrong.
